Four80East is a Toronto-based electro-jazz duo that’s all about the groove. Drawing from their diverse musical influences, Rob DeBoer and Tony Grace have created a signature sound that combines electronic production with live instrumentation.  

Since breaking out with their highly successful debut “The Album” in 1997, Four80East has been a mainstay on contemporary jazz radio, with eight studio albums and a double live album to their credit.  They have scored several top-ten Billboard hits, including their most recent #1 in 2019 with Cinco Cinco Seis.

Although the band was born as a studio project, DeBoer and Grace have been able to transform their layered and captivating sonic productions into a high-energy live show, with the help of the many world-class musicians who join them on stage. They perform as a six-piece ensemble.

About Four80East

Toronto-based Four80East is actually a studio side-project for Rob DeBoer (piano, guitar, bass, programming) and Tony Grace (drums, programming), who, along with Grace's brother Paul, run Boomtang Records. Four80East developed over several years, between Grace and DeBoer's remix schedule (for the likes of Econoline Crush, Amanda Marshall, Corey Hart, Wild Strawberries, Philosopher Kings, and Ashley MacIsaac) and their other project, the pop band the Boomtang Boys. Four80East started as an outlet of pure fun to play a sort of loose, improvisational dance music inspired by groove music out of the U.K. The other half of the band is Jack Trentman on guitar and trumpet, and Jon Stewart on tenor saxophone. The band's first album, titled appropriately enough The Album, came out in 1997 on Boomtang. It earned considerable airplay in both the U.S. and England. Nocturnal followed in early 2001, marking their first effort for Higher Octave. A year later, Round 3 followed up on their self-proclaimed "trip-jazz" sound. The group's fourth studio-effort, 2007's En Route also featured a sophisticated, acid-jazz vibe. However, 2009's Roll On, found the group digging into a retro funk and '70s soul influenced sound. In 2012, they returned with the soulful, lightly experimental Off Duty. The concert album, Four80East Live, appeared in 2014. In 2015, Four80East released their seventh studio-album, Positraction, which included the single, "Cookie Strut." ~ Stanton Swihart

This year’s Stanley Cup is the tale of two franchises.

In their 30 years of existence, the Florida Panthers have yet to take home the high-status trophy even though they’ve been to the big dance twice before. Last season, Sam Reinhart, Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov’s squad got close but couldn’t close the deal when they lost in five games to the Vegas Golden Knights.

As for Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman and the Edmonton Oilers , they’ve been in a bit of a Stanley Cup drought after their dominant run in the ’80s when they won five (!) Cups. Most recently, they suffered a seven-game defeat at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2006 Stanley Cup.

Needless to say, no matter who wins it all this year, one team is going home very happy.

After 2024 NFL schedule release, StubHub sold twice as many tickets in the first 24 hours compared to 2023

Fans are clearly looking forward to seeing games in person next year.

To say the NFL is popular in the United States would be a dramatic undersell. For the last 10 years, the Super Bowl  has been the most watched television broadcast of the year, while playoff games have also consistently ranked among the top. Fans are tuning into the game at historic numbers, as proved when Super Bowl LVIII became the most-watched in NFL history, but they are also looking to fill stadium seats. 

This year, StubHub saw the demand for tickets increase significantly. In the first 24 hours after the league's official schedule release, StubHub sold twice the number of tickets compared to the same window of time from last offseason, with 77% more sales.

One thing that did not change was the three teams most in demand. Like last year, it was the Las Vegas Raiders , Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers that saw the most sales. The Atlanta Falcons , who signed quarterback Kirk Cousins this offseason, saw the biggest jump, going from No. 30 to No. 4. The Green Bay Packers rounded out the top five for most in-demand teams. 

The top selling game was a "Sunday Night Football" matchup between the Cowboys and Steelers, followed by the Steelers at Raiders and the Falcons' home opener against the Steelers. The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs had four games in the top 10 in sales.

StubHub's first four hours following the schedule release tend to have the highest sale rate of the entire season, according to the ticket sales company. Up to 60% of the first week sales following the schedule release take place in those first 24 hours of ticket availability. Plus, for some teams, as much as 5% of total sales or number of tickets sold for the entire season occur within the first 24 hours after the schedule comes out.

Europe’s U-20 World Cup contingent is confirmed – but only England and France are former champions. Can the three other UEFA nations make history?

The three remaining UEFA nations are looking to become the latest to add their name to the trophy

The FIFA U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023 is approaching, with competing nations from CONCACAF, OFC and UEFA all confirmed for the May–June tournament.  

FIFA+  is shining a light on some of the participating countries who have already sealed their spot. Attention turns to Europe’s five participants, where only France (2013) and England (2017) have previously been crowned U-20 World Cup winners, meaning Israel, Slovakia and Italy are in with a chance of adding a new name to the record books.

Countries qualify for the U-20 World Cup based on performances in their respective U-20 or U-19 continental competitions.

In 2022, eight European countries battled it out for European Under-19 Championship glory and a place in the World Cup. England won the title while the three other semi-finalists (Israel, France and Italy) and one play-off winner (Slovakia) all joined them in qualifying for Indonesia 2023.

For runners-up Israel, this will be their first-ever appearance at a FIFA U-20 World Cup. It has the potential to be another breakthrough performance after the 2022 European Under-19 Championship saw them reach the semi-finals - then the final - for the first time. 

Italy were agonisingly ousted by a late goal from England’s Jarell Quansah at the semi-final stage and boasted a team packed with young players beginning to make waves at domestic level.

Completing the set, Slovakia edged out Austria in a play-off match after both sides finished third in their respective European Under-19 Championship groups, giving them a first U-20 World Cup appearance since 2003.

Recent history is on their side. Ukraine, England and France have all won the competition for the first time in the past decade, with Serbia also picking up a title in 2015 despite not challenging at the top since Yugoslavia lifted the trophy 28 years before.

Israel were a revelation in the European Under-19 Championships. Coached by former Israeli Premier League top-scorer and Hapoel Tel Aviv manager Ofir Haim, they took eventual champions England all the way to extra-time in the final after taking the lead through Oscar Gloukh.

Gloukh, who scored three goals over the tournament’s five games, is just one of the players who look set to give Israel a bright footballing future.

Attacking midfielder and PSV youngster Tai Abed will also be looked to for success at the U-20 World Cup, while Ariel Lugassy adds a threat from wide positions. Despite only turning 18 in November, Lugassy is becoming a regular appearance-maker with Maccabi Petah Tikva in Liga Leumit, the Israeli second division. 

Slovakia, meanwhile, may pin their hopes on 6’4 striker Adam Griger, whose positioning and anticipation in the European Under-19 Championships put him in the perfect place to scoop home a 95th minute winner against Romania. 

While Griger makes a name for himself on loan at Cagliari from LASK, it was a Slovakian-based player – MSK Zilina defender Samuel Kopasek – who scored their most spectacular goal of the tournament. His defensive nous at right-back and added attacking abilities could be invaluable to a side looking to better their only previous outing at a U-20 World Cup: an extra-time defeat to eventual champions Brazil in 2003.

It is Italy, though, who appear to be pushing closer and closer to a U-20 title. Having finished third and fourth in 2017 and 2019 respectively, their U-19 side was coached to qualification this time round by youth set-up stalwart Carmine Nunziata. Nunziata has been involved with  Gli Azzurrini  since 2012 and managed his youth sides to European Under-17 Championship silver medals in 2018 and 2019. 

Tasked with bringing U-20 World Cup glory to Italy are young stars including winger Luca D’Andrea – enjoying a breakthrough season with Sassuolo – and Cristian Volpato, an Australian-born 19-year-old who already has a Serie A goal and Europa League appearances to his name with Roma. 

How the pressure of the World Cup and the added task of facing countries from across the world will affect these three nations is uncertain. But despite not having tasted global victory before, Israel, Slovakia and Italy’s continental campaign has undoubtedly readied them for the challenge.
