Watch: Anchorage fans seek and find Tim Hayden, the ‘Love Your Journey’ Hagley West watchmaker

Saturday was a Chamber of Commerce summer day in Anchorage. Some went fishing, others found a swimming hole, and lots of hikers hit the trails. For about 150 people, the day was devoted to tracking down a business entrepreneur from Great Britain, who left his job as to start his own watch company.

Tim Hayden, the watch entrepreneur, now has over 1.5 million followers on TikTok, over 2 million followers across his various social media channels, and part of his marketing technique for his Hagley West watches is to position himself in cities all over the world, then go live on TikTok and Facebook, giving viewers some broad clues about where to find him.

The person who finds him first, and who speaks the words “Love Your Journey” to him, wins a watch, the value of which is under $200.

But it’s not about the watch, which is a story unto itself, but about the journey for Hayden’s fans, who enjoy being part of a global game of hide and seek with someone who started a business from scratch.

At the base of a hill at Kincaid Park, Hayden started live-streaming at 1 pm on Saturday, and it only took minutes for his first fans to find him. Brother and sister Sawyer and Sophia came bounding down the hill, shouting “Love Your Journey!” They, like the others who followed, gave Hayden a big hug and expressed how happy they were to meet him.

Hayden is an out-of-the-box thinker, and has turned his line of affordable and stylish watches into a coveted item for people around the world due to his unique method of building a tribe of people who enjoy the journey of the entrepreneur, and who embrace the idea of loving the journey of life.

“The ethos of Hagley West is built on my life experiences. As a younger man I lived dedicated to ascending to the next rung of life’s ladder, forever reaching and never being satisfied. How wrong could I have been. For it’s not the goal that’s the achievement, it’s the gratitude for the time we have, the joy of the process and the love of the journey,” Hayden said on his website.

“I decided instead to celebrate the love of the journey, not just mine, but also of others. No two journeys are the same, whether they be emotional, physical, mental or spiritual: but every journey is marked by time,” he said.

Rep. Jamie Allard, pictured at the top of this page with Hayden, was one of the people who made her way to Kincaid Park, although she was not among the first two dozen to arrive. She’s been following the journey of the watch company and its founder for a couple of years, and said she has admiration for someone who can build a company from scratch and go global.

Allard gave Hayden an American flag, and chatted with him briefly about his plans for growing a nonprofit organization to give back to the community, and she also applauded him for incorporating some American Sign Language into his marketing “Love Your Journey” slogan. Allard, who is partially deaf due to her military service, not only spoke “Love Your Journey” in words to Hayden, but also made the statement in ASL.

Allard also came to the event to congratulate the two teens who found Hayden first, within minutes of his livestream start time.

For Allard, her own journey started with her immigrant parents from Chile and Italy, and continued with her service in the U.S. Army, and now as a public servant in the Alaska Legislature. The words “Love Your Journey” speak to her own experience in growing and serving, now as the state representative for Eagle River.

The happy collection of Alaskans who gathered under the sunny skies and calm winds stayed for a group photo with the continent-hopping entrepreneur, and for individual photos afterward — all of it live-streamed from Kincaid Park to thousands of viewers around the world.

Hayden, who left the safety of a job in IT to follow his dream, is repeating events like these in every state. Although he has now checked Alaska off the list, his crew said he definitely plans on returning.

Amazing customer service

I recently bought a watch for my friend as birthday gift. He noticed a slight fault on it after a week or so. I emailed about the fault and attached photos. Hagley West assessed the photos and are replacing it with a new watch. I required a response in regards to a query about a discount code…

I required a response in regards to a discount code that didn’t appear to work, not sure whose fault it was but customer service, out of ten, has to be a 10. Not only was the response immediate but there was “care” in the words and understanding. The result was positive and advice given for the future. I couldn’t have asked for anything else. Absolutely amazing company

Absolutely amazing company. I had an issue with the delivery as my parcel had been opened and taken in transit. I received an empty box. aquamarine original 36…

I ordered the aquamarine original 36 after seeing the colour when I did a find Tim challenge. The colour is beautiful and the 36 watch is a great size for a person with a smaller wrist who doesn’t want a bigger size watch. I recently bought myself a birthday…

I recently bought myself a birthday present of a watch from this inspiring company. The system somehow confirmed the order before I could put in the discount code, but after reaching out to their customer service team, it has now been sorted. I ordered the watch on Wednesday 15th May and just got notification its in my state and on the way to my house. Cheap Chinese watches....

I was brought 2 hagley west watches from a person that has no idea about watches.I was very grateful of the present but these watches are just cheap Chinese watches. The quality of the bracelets sound and feel really cheap. The watches are just Chinese drop shipped watches, you can get from a Chinese shop, just with the hagleywest logo installed on them. Spend a but more money on watches and your find a better watch. The story is great and good luck to tim but there are so much better out there.

Fantastic after sales service

I wish that by end of 2025 Hagley West reaches all the 195 countries. They have reached 107 countries by selling 50000 watches in 7 years and I really wish that by end of 2025 they wrap their wrist watches around the planet. I dont think there is a better way to express the happiness of owning a Hagley West watch. Their limited edition watches are the reason that my 10th Marriage Anniversary celebrations were colourful in India, and this is again a big testament coming from someone who celebrates festival of colours (Holi).

Today I had the opportunity to buy a watch from hagley West Tim is in my home town of Perth Western Australia and went live gave 30% discount I had been saving for a while to be able to afford one unfortunately the discount didn't add and took 272 out of my account I emailed to support team at hagley West and they fixed the issue in hrs not days or weeks hrs what a great company thank u so much don't hesitate to save and buy a hagley West watch they will be as big as rolex and tag huer

Beautiful but...

While I love the brand, and the watch (Original 36 - champagne) is beautiful, the band seems to lack quality and is very small, to the point where it is uncomfortable to wear. To be honest, it seems more sized for a child. And according to the company, when I contacted them about replacing the band, I was advised the band was unable to be replaced. The price was not terrible but at this price point, I would expect more from a watch. Seems like a disposable purchase.

Very helpful with a missed delivery

Unfortunately I recently missed my watch delivery and it was returned to sender. I contacted Hagley West and they responded immediately. They confirmed that it had been returned to sender and offered me either a refund or re-shipment. As I am going to work away for a while, I asked to change my shipping address to my company’s offices. They changed the address without any issues and confirmed it with me over email. A really friendly and helpful team. I’m really looking forward to wearing my new watch!

Wow excellent customer services 🏆

Wow, I purchased a watch last week I had problems with the clasp, I was asked to send it back which I did, Hagley West received the watch Back on Friday and low and behold today(Monday). I received the replacement watch. Customer service go above and beyond, which is so important in this day and age. Service very poor

Service poor. Ordered watch , albeit on pre order. Poor updates , no specific date it will be available and now concerned on what I've read regarding being cheap knock offs . Feel am being duped by marketing and now many others are. Will be challenging my bank to obtain a refund. Don't want to take any further risk. Annoyed that companies like this go all out to get your money and then can't be bothered with customer service to same level.

This Adventure Cyclist Turned Her Love of Bikes Into a Career

I first started cycling when I was 18 years old, after graduating from high school. Without the need to train for field hockey or lacrosse, my dad (a former marathon runner), who had recently transitioned to cycling due to knee issues, invited me on a road bike ride. I was immediately attracted to the low-impact workout that cycling provided, as well as the freedom it offered to explore places in southwest Ohio I didn’t know existed.

Once I started cycling, I dove head-first into all aspects of the sport. I began with sprint triathlons, then trained for my first century ride . I explored mountain biking , raced cyclocross, and ventured into gravel riding and bikepacking eventually.

However, I was around bikes long before I started riding. I began working with bicycles at the age of 12 at Loveland Bike and Skate Rental in Loveland, Ohio. It was there that I first witnessed the joy cycling brought to others.

Through my teens and early 20s, I immersed myself in the world of cycling before transitioning to another job at the local bike shop in town. When that shop closed, I took the leap and opened my own bike shop, Swallow Bicycle Works, in 2011.

Through Swallow Bicycle Works, we catered to the greater Cincinnati cycling community, offering repairs, custom builds for all budgets, and outfitting services. I fostered community spaces at cyclocross events, and by hosting gravel rides .

My training philosophy has always been to keep it fun with a lot of variety and ride in ways that I enjoy to maintain sustainability. I’m not a competitive cyclist; I approach events as opportunities to challenge myself and connect with the cycling community.

In 2015, I secured a sponsorship contract with Specialized Bicycles, which led me to close my bike shop and embark on a 5,000-mile journey from east to west across the United States on dirt roads. For the past nine years, I have worked as a non-competitive adventure ambassador, living my dream and feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity to do what I love for a living.

I am also one of the c0-founders of Radical Adventure Riders (RAR). RAR is a movement toward gender inclusivity and racial equity in cycling and the outdoors.

RAR began as a series of bikepacking rides around the country, leading up to a three-day educational summit. We did that for two years, before transitioning to the chapter-based network that RAR is today.

Since I stepped down from RAR in 2020 to allow space for fresh leadership and diversity within the organization, I have been focused on planning Ruta del Jefe , which is a binational festival celebrating adventure, education, community, and advocacy in the United States and Mexico borderlands.

In addition to Ruta del Jefe, I maintain the Sky Islands Odyssey Bikepacking Route Project and host the Sky Islands Adventure Ride Series in Southern Arizona. These initiatives aim to bring the community together in the beautiful Sky Islands landscape, and on its diverse network of roads.

When I’m not on a major ride or exploring a new place, I enjoy commuting and riding mountain bikes, mixed terrain, and bike paths from my home in Tucson, Arizona.

Before I found cycling, I didn’t feel like I had a direction or purpose in life. Cycling has helped build my self-confidence and community, providing me with a career and experiences I never thought possible.

Adventure is not an escape, but an embracing of reality that always leads me to a newfound appreciation of life and the world around me. Cycling continually draws me back for the transformative experiences , new perspectives on life, and has expanded my global perspective.

These tips have made my cycling journey a success:

1. switch up your rides.

If you have the ability, ride different bikes on different terrain and in different places to keep cycling fun. To keep my motivation, I love exploring new places, or just switching between my gravel and mountain bike.

2. Be self-sufficient

A lot of my success has come from being fully self-sufficient on the bike rather than depending on others in the group. Bring the spare tube, repair kit , layers, and extra snacks . More importantly, navigate for yourself and have a thorough understanding of the route you’re riding. When you can navigate a route and carry everything you need, your mentality can switch from being dependent and insecure to confident and independent.

3. Share your experience and get involved

Cycling can provide some of the most life-changing, unique, and inspiring experiences. However, it can also be an extremely isolating and individualistic activity. Find a way to share your incredible experiences with others, like through photos, videos, or stories. You can even organize a community event, mentor a new cyclist, or volunteer with a local organization. Use your experiences to give back to the community and encourage more people to ride.
