What Do Travel Percentages Mean in a Job Description?
Written by Nathan Brunner .
Last updated on December 12, 2023.
“Travel percentages” refer to the amount of time that an employee is required to travel as part of their job responsibilities. Travel percentages include traveling to other cities, states, or countries to meet with clients and attend conferences.
For example, if a job description requires “50% travel,” the employee will be required spend roughly half of their time traveling and the other half working from their home office or the company’s headquarters.
Some jobs may require no travel at all, while others may involve extensive travel on a regular basis. Before accepting a job that involves travel, it’s important to carefully consider whether you’re willing and able to meet the job’s travel requirements.
Tip : Find Jobs on Salarship .
The Implications of Travel Percentages on Work-Life Balance
Different travel percentages can have significant implications for work-life balance.
For instance, if a job requires very little or no travel, an employee may be able to maintain a more consistent schedule and have more time for personal activities or family commitments.
On the other hand, frequent or extended travel can lead to fatigue, stress, and a lack of personal time, which can negatively affect an employee’s mental health and well-being .
Here is a quick table to help you understand how the different travel percentages will impact your life once you start your job:
- 10% travel — It means one or two months’ worth of business trips each year. In my experience, it is relatively easy to endure as it means a few travel days (or sometimes weeks) here and there.
- 25% travel — You will spend at least a quarter of your working hours away from your usual place of work. It amounts to 3 months per year, one week per month, or two days per week.
- 50% travel — It means constant overnight or international business trips for at least two weeks per month or six months a year. 50% of travel is usually mentioned in international business job descriptions.
- 75% travel — You will essentially live out of your suitcase and move from hotel to hotel for nine months per year, or three weeks each month. Most jobs that require you to travel three-fourths of the time are pretty stressful (e.g., high-paying jobs or jobs in the transportation industry ). You may rake in a hefty salary, but the tradeoff is little time for yourself, your family, and your non-work-related hobbies and goals.
On the bright side, companies usually shoulder most (if not all) of your travel expenses, including food expenses, hotel expenses, and transportation expenses.
How To Get a Job That Requires You To Travel
If you’re deadset on getting a job that includes a travel percentage in the description, here are a few tips to keep in mind — whether you’re writing your cover letter or answering an interview question on whether you’re willing to travel or not.
- Highlight any previous travel experience you have. You want to reassure your potential employer that you’re not likely to, say, suffer from jet lag, or commit novice mistakes like forgetting to apply for a visa in countries that require them.
- Be honest about the amount of time you’re willing to spend traveling. The more honest you are about what you want at the job application or interview stage, the more likely you’ll end up with a job that’s a good fit for you.
Tip : 1,061,679 Jobs Are Available on Salarship .
Final Thoughts
Evaluating the time you’ll be traveling in a job description can help you decide whether a position is right for you.
On the one hand, traveling often translates to more opportunities for promotion and career growth. On the other hand, traveling can be stressful and take a toll on your physical, mental, and psychological health.
Ultimately, it all boils down to your personal priorities and values.

Ehh, does the job.
The stations are crowded and crawling with rude Russians. It takes some getting used to. But once you become accustomed to the subway isn't all that bad. At least they have WiFi, and the stations are very historical and clean. Worth seeing since driving in Russia means certain death.
I must say this is even better than the Kremlin, all stations have historical meanings and amazing statues and drawing on the wall, deep and meaningful. They were like the lobby of 5 star hotels and even better. Mesmerized its beauty and elegance way after the trip. Highly recommend!
Looks like is difficult to move in metro due to the language but after a while you'll see is not. Just keep a make with your stations and how to write it in cirilix and go ahead. Art. Paints. Monuments. All amazing and free to take photos. Long tunnels and deep stairs! Get ready if you have vertigo! In general is safe but avoid the evening-night time.
Our group did this as an additional tour one evening. It was so fascinating! The tile, ceramic, mosaics, statues, artwork, chandeliers! I would highly recommend a guided tour as there are so many things that will be pointed out and explained. Well worth it!
![job 80 travel job 80 travel](https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-l/08/f6/d8/2f/moscow-metro.jpg)
My husband I took advantage of the free tour of the metro. There are five stations that have significant decor. They are on different metro lines and due to our concern about lunderstanding signs and getting directions in English we opted for a guide. The tou guide, Ellen, was great. Interesting to see how the 'deStalinization' ' played out in the metro art. Nothing like NYC subways. A bit like Grand Central Station though. Train schedule is brisk - metro well utilized but the public.
Something unique I would say s it is 3 stories down and maybe the world's longest escalator works there. First time a saw an escalator operator sitting in a proper control room and controling speed. Very clean and well maintaines.

The Moscow Metro is the third most intensive subway system in the world after Tokyo and Seoul subways. The first line was opened on May 15, 1935. Since 1955, the metro has the name of V.I. Lenin.
The system consists of 12 lines with a total length of 305.7 km. Forty four stations are recognized cultural heritage. The largest passenger traffic is in rush hours from 8:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 19:00.
Cellular communication is available on most of the stations of the Moscow Metro. In March 2012, a free Wi-Fi appeared in the Circle Line train. The Moscow Metro is open to passengers from 5:20 to 01:00. The average interval between trains is 2.5 minutes.
The fare is paid by using contactless tickets and contactless smart cards, the passes to the stations are controlled by automatic turnstiles. Ticket offices and ticket vending machines can be found in station vestibules.

Democratic Massachusetts U.S. Reps. Lori Trahan and Seth Moulton are set to join a bipartisan congressional delegation that will be in France for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
The delegation, led by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., includes more than 50 bipartisan members of the majority-Republican U.S. House, their offices said in a joint statement.
The delegation is set to participate in observances of the anniversary on Thursday, along with veterans and their families, active duty service members, government, and military officials, and foreign dignitaries, they said.
“D-Day embodies our nation’s bravery, strength and resilience. Seventy-three-thousand Americans landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6th, 1944,” Moulton, D-6th District, a former Marine, said in a statement.
“Over 2,500 Americans lost their lives that day, and then thousands more in the weeks and months that followed. Now is the time to take in the stories and lessons of our Greatest Generation while we still can,” he said.
Trahan, D-3rd District, called it “the honor of a lifetime to join veterans, families, leaders, and so many others in Normandy.”
“Eighty years ago, tens of thousands of courageous Americans mobilized in response to the rising tide of fascism sweeping Europe and turning its gaze toward our shores,” Trahan said. “They crossed the English Channel and stormed the beaches of Normandy, confronting fear with unwavering resolve as they began turning the tide against tyranny.”

9 Jobs That Can Be Done While Traveling
Posted: December 24, 2023 | Last updated: December 24, 2023
In a world of high-speed living and remote jobs, earning money anywhere is possible. Travel isn’t cheap. It costs a lot of money, and working in an office does not leave much time for leisure. If you are on vacation and have seen all there is to be seen, you may look for something else to pass the time.
Remote jobs don’t have to be boring. In fact, many of them are great options for earning free or discounted travel. You just have to know how to choose which of these travel jobs is right for you.
1. Blogging
Blogging while traveling is a great way to earn some money. Your office is wherever your laptop is, so you are never tied down to one place. This can help you travel the world with just a laptop and a bit of data, which you can always find in local cafes or restaurants . It’s even better if you do travel writing, so you can combine firsthand experience with creative writing that helps others plan their travels.
2. Vlogging
Similar to blogging, video blogging, also called “ vlogging ,” is a visual form of content. You can write blogs for your website but also work as a freelancer for other people’s websites. When it comes to vlogging, however, people usually vlog for their own channels. It takes more time to succeed but can also be more rewarding monetarily. All you need is a smartphone with a nice camera, or if you want to be fancy, a laptop with some video editing software like Adobe PremierePro or DaVinci Resolve.
3. Video Commercials
This one is both fun and rewarding. If you have a smartphone with a decent camera and invest in an excellent DJI drone, you can earn some nice money on your travels. Combine this with an investment in a decent laptop and a video editing course, and you have a recipe for success. When I was on vacation in Corfu , I discovered an opportunity with their beautiful beachfront Tavernas. I packed my drone, visited a few of them on foot, and offered them my services. I scored two jobs for filming a video ad and one logo redesign job, which made me a nice profit for less than a full day of work.
4. Singing and Playing an Instrument
Singing or playing an instrument is another excellent way to earn some surprisingly good money. If you are a good singer and can play an instrument, you can always play in the city center or other popular spots. Many great talents have been discovered performing in public this way. You can also offer your skills to local restaurants or lounges if they are in need of live music or other entertainment.
5. Haircuts for Tips
If you know how to cut hair, another great way to earn money is to offer free haircuts and keep profits from their tips if they decide to give you one. You only need hair clippers for this one, so you can be flexible and earn well in countries where haircuts are expensive. Pro tip : You can combine this with vlogging and use this as your content on your vlog to increase exposure.
6. Exposure for Businesses
This travel job is for those with a well-developed online business. If you already have a travel blog , you can always ask restaurant owners, bar owners, hotels, and others who provide services in tourism if they would like to collaborate on a promotion on your website. The business will get exposure to your audience, and you can negotiate payment or exchanges for that promotion, like a one-night hotel stay or a free meal.
7. Bartending
A good barista is always a much-needed part of the crew. If you know how to mix drinks or make a killer espresso, you can always offer your services to nightclubs or cafes and earn a decent wage, plus tips.
8. Temporary Tattoos or Hair Styling
Unlike the classic tattoo industry, where laws and regulations can tie up employment approval, temporary tattoos can be done anytime, anywhere, and do not fall under any laws and regulations. There is a low risk of infection with temporary tattoos or paints, unlike classic tattoos that are created by piercing the skin. Hair braiding or wrapping is popular at beach destinations and can also be done anytime, anywhere.
9. Working on a Cruise Ship
Working on a cruise ship is more permanent, but it still fits within the scope of travel jobs. There are numerous jobs that you can do on a cruise ship, and each of those offers some nice wages. Understandably, a captain makes much more than a cabin steward, but all employees receive benefits and gratuity. You can use the time between shifts to discover beautiful cities wherever you stop.

Two Wyomingites travel to Normandy honoring the 80th Anniversary of D-Day
On june 6, 1944, nearly 160,000 allied troops came together in what is known as the largest naval, and airborne invasion in military history..
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On June 6, 1944, nearly 160,000 allied troops came together by land, air, and sea in what became the largest naval, and airborne invasion in military history. The operation was codenamed OVERLORD, which delivered five naval assault divisions to Nazi occupied beaches of Normandy, France. On June 6, 1944, 4,426 of those troops died, so that freedom wouldn’t.
It’s been 80 years since the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II, this historical event ultimately led to the liberation of Europe. Thousands of people from across the world gathered in Normandy, to commemorate the 80th anniversary, with two Wyomingites having the unique opportunity to show their respects this year.
Matt Mitchell, and his daughter Audrey, traveled to Normandy with the Neuchâtel Pipe Band, a bagpipe band from Switzerland. It all started eight years ago, when Matt, an orthopedic surgeon, had a patient he was taking care of come in with a finger injury. The patient during the visit asked Matt when he would be able to restart the bagpipes, hearing this question it sparked Matt’s interest in learning how to start playing himself. Matt began practicing, later joining the Lander Pipe Band, who his daughter Audrey joined him for a couple years, after some convincing. So how did two Wyomingites get an opportunity to travel over 4,700 miles to perform at the 80th Ceremony of D-Day?
It all began when Audrey went to school in Switzerland on a one-year scholarship. “I went over to help her move in, and we ended up getting acquainted with the Neuchâtel Celtic Pipe Band, I started playing with them and they told me they were going to Normandy.” Matt continues, “We got into a conversation about how I had an uncle who flown in on June 6th, and how I was in the military.” Matt mentions how in Switzerland, military services are mandatory, and the band members were all in the military which both shared a bond over. The Mitchell’s have a extensive military background in their family, going back generations. Having uncles that served in WWII, and his father and brother both retired from the air force. Matt’s great uncle, Harry Orton, was a pilot who flew gliders on that fateful day in 1944.
The Neuchâtel Celtic Pipe Band, extended an offer that both Matt and Audrey couldn’t refuse, an opportunity to join them in Normandy to perform during the ceremony. When Audrey heard the news they’d be heading to Normandy, she couldn’t help but feel excited, but understood there was a sense of responsibility in making those who served our country all those years ago proud. “Honoring them in this way, and making sure that what they’ve done, and what they’ve given is really remembered, to share that with my dad I think is going to be really special.” explained Audrey. Including be able to perform with the band, Audrey was offered the opportunity to perform a solo of “Amazing Grace”, at the Normandy-American cemetery. Though she nervously accepted that offer, she knew that the years of practice, prepared her for this moment, “You know initially very nerve wracking, because it’s a lot of pressure. I definitely want to do a good job, but it kind of goes back to that feeling of being able to give back.” Audrey continues, “I’ve been upping my practice, making sure that it’s going to be the best solo that I can give, and making my dad proud, make my great, great uncle who flew glidders in WWII, make him proud and just be apart of this really great experience.”
A great experience, but one that puts into perspective the sacrifices that were made just 80 years ago. Matt said “Just realizing that eighty years before, there were hundreds of thousands of troops that were getting ready to go ashore, and probably weren’t exactly sure what they were going to encounter.” Matt continues, “Whatever it was, it wasn’t going to be good, and so I think that their heroism you want to honor, I think that’s important to do that.”
Both Audrey and Matt are honored to be able to pay their respects on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, and have a sense of pride representing Wyoming over 47-hundred miles away from the Cowboy State. Audrey explains what it means to represent her home state, “There’s amazing things happening in Wyoming, and being able to spotlight that and take it over sea’s, and just to be able to represent Wyoming. My dad and I are going to be putting little Wyoming state flags on our bag pipes just to get that representation over there in France.” Matt sharing the same feeling says, “To go over there and represent Wyoming at an event that signifies the sacrifice a generation made 80 years ago to ensure freedom and to make sure that we can enjoy our lives today.”

Gov. Tim Walz to travel to France for 80th anniversary of D-Day
June 3, 2024 / 9:31 PM CDT / CBS/AP
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will be traveling to France this week to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
On Thursday, Walz will attend the 80th Anniversary D-Day Presidential Ceremony, where several Minnesotans who fought in World War II will be recognized.
Almost 160,000 Allied troops, 73,000 from the United States, landed at Normandy on June 6, 1944, in a massive operation designed to break through heavily fortified German defenses and begin the liberation of Western Europe.
A total of 4,415 Allied troops were killed on D-Day, according to the Necrology Project , including about 2,500 Americans. More than 5,000 were wounded.
"Those who stormed the shores of Normandy on D-Day demonstrated a fierce commitment to our country and to the ideals of freedom, courage, and sacrifice. Minnesota holds strong ties to this historic day, represented by the many soldiers who courageously risked their lives in the name of liberty," Walz said.
Dozens of World War II veterans are converging on France , many perhaps for the last time, to revisit old memories and make new ones.
Many world leaders are expected to attend Thursday's ceremony.
WCCO's John Lauritsen and Tom Aviles are also in France covering the historic anniversary, sharing stories of Minnesota veterans who fought in World War II.

- Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — America’s employers added a strong 272,000 jobs in May, accelerating from April and a sign that companies are still confident enough in the economy to keep hiring despite persistently high interest rates.
Last month’s sizable job gain suggests that the economy is still growing steadily, propelled by consumer spending on travel, entertainment and other areas of the service sector. U.S. airports, for example, reported record traffic over the Memorial Day weekend. A healthy job market typically drives consumer spending, the economy’s principal fuel. Though some recent signs had raised concerns about economic weakness, May’s jobs report should help assuage those fears.
Still, Friday’s report from the government included some signs of a potential slowdown. The unemployment rate, for example, edged up for a second straight month, to a still-low 4%, from 3.9%, ending a 27-month streak of unemployment below 4%. That streak had matched the longest such run since the late 1960s.
President Joe Biden is still likely to point to Friday’s jobs report as a sign of the economy’s robust health under his administration. The presumptive Republican nominee, Donald Trump has focused his criticism of Biden’s economic policies on the surge in inflation, which polls show still weighs heavily in voters’ assessment of the economy.
Hourly paychecks also accelerated last month, a welcome gain for workers but a trend that could contribute to stickier inflation. Hourly wages rose 4.1% from a year ago, faster than the rate of inflation and more quickly than in April. Some companies may raise their prices to offset their higher wage costs.
The Federal Reserve’s inflation fighters would like to see the economy cool a bit as they consider when to begin cutting their benchmark rate. The Fed sharply raised interest rates in 2022 and 2023 after the vigorous recovery from the pandemic recession ignited the worst inflation in 40 years.
Annual inflation has declined to 2.7% by the Fed’s preferred measure, still above the Fed’s 2% target. Cooler hiring over time could slow wage gains and help fully tame inflation. Chair Jerome Powell has said the Fed needs greater confidence that inflation is returning sustainably to its target before it would reduce borrowing costs.
When the Fed began aggressively raising rates, most economists expected the resulting jump in borrowing costs to cause a recession and drive unemployment to painfully high levels. Yet the job market has proved more durable than almost anyone had predicted. Even so, Americans remain generally frustrated by high prices, a continuing source of discontent that could imperil Biden’s re-election bid.
A key reason why the economy is still producing solid net job growth is that layoffs remain at historic lows. Just 1.5 million people lost jobs in April. That’s the lowest monthly figure on record — outside of the peak pandemic period — in data going back 24 years. After struggling to fill jobs for several years, most employers are reluctant to lay off workers.

I travel 80-100% for my job. I am not a person that would typically fall into a category of someone who "thrives off of travel"… but it has worked out well for me. It helps that I work 4 ten hour days, and my travel rarely keeps me away from home over the weekend. Every weekend is a three day weekend. I am married but we do not have children.
