Re: support acts for uk march tour.

I have found in the past that the support acts are not normally announced/decided until much nearer the event. You may find it will be someone who uses the same promoter or UK management team.

Maybe he has no support act. In Holland there wasn't. But Virgil and the Accelerators would be nice I guess...

Correct me if Im wrong but the last time there was a support act was Crosby Loggins during the Sloe Gin tour, at least here in the States. That seems like forever ago.

Shame that Joe doesn't give the same chance to younger artists that BB King and many others did to him. Also not everyone lives close enough to a venue to get there for 7.30. Poor decision on both counts. Ben Montague was the last support I saw for Joe Lynn

A couple of sweeping statements there!  At one of the Hammersmith Odeon nights last October he brought a talented young lady called Eilidh Mckellar on stage with him and she and Joe played two songs including Blues Deluxe.  If that's not giving a chance to a younger artist then I don't know what is.

Also what's wrong with a gig starting at 7.30 pm?  I'm going to Brighton in a couple of weeks and have taken the day off to do it - it's not difficult really.

Opening acts serve two maybe three purposes.

1) lengthen the show. Joe plays nearly 2 and 1/2 hours so not needed.

2) Expose the act for promotional purposes. Either a promoter or label getting their act in front of a bigger audience. Joe once had Crosby Loggins who was on his label. Even then it was an acoustic act that didn't require much in additional production.

3) Sells tickets. Joe doesn't appear to need any help there.

Start time is determined by the finish time and the time it takes to clear the theater. If there is an additional cost for running the local crew past midnight it could cost thousands of dollars in overtime or additional labor costs. Hence the 7:30 start time no opener.

Good explanation Jim.I wouldn't mind seeing an opening act,but all you say here makes complete  sense. I wouldn't want to trade a minute of Joe for a warm up band.

Rather see Joe for the full time myself. I wouldn't mind one if the start was earlier but not if it reduces his own show. Now guest stars is a different matter......

Joe Bonamassa has announced two huge London shows for spring 2024.

The blues musician will perform new songs alongside career-spanning favourites at the Royal Albert Hall on April 4 and 5, with tickets on general sale at 9am on Friday (September 29).

The dates will celebrate the 15th anniversary since Bonamassa first took to the stage at the iconic venue in May 2009. He'll also showcase material from his new album, 'Blues Deluxe Vol. 2', due out on October 6. He said:

"The Royal Albert Hall is a special venue for me personally. It’s the first venue that literally changed my career overnight. I always look forward to playing the venue because, not only is it a beautiful venue, but the staff are amazing, and the audiences are second to none. It’s always an emotional experience whenever I play the RAH."

The 46-year-old will embark on an extensive US tour this fall, followed by further dates in spring 2024 that will bring him up and down the East Coast. Tickets for those concerts are already on sale.

Yesterday, the blues musician posted a video of himself to social media playing his electric guitar. “Life sometimes ebbs and flows,” he wrote. “This is honestly the third time I have picked up the guitar in almost three weeks.

“Social media is not reality and sometimes even the most seemingly passionate people need a break from something they are seemingly passionate about. I am no different.”

In August this year, the blues musician described the memorable experience of jamming with Eric Clapton on stage at the Royal Albert Hall in 2009 as “insane”.

“I was shocked to find out that he knew who I was,” he said in a Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall Of Fame interview in August.

Bonamassa returned for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in May of this year, exactly 13 years after he performed at the iconic London venue for the first time.

Last year, the guitarist also opened up about the reality of recording his album ‘Time Clocks’ during the pandemic.

“We found ourselves at Germano Studios, cutting music as a trio (but not trio music) and having to invent ways of making records when your lifelong producer is stuck in Australia due to travel restrictions,” he said in a statement (via Guitar.com ).

“Kevin Shirley came up with a way of linking continents and consoles to where we had literally zero latency. Add Steve Mackey and Anton Fig to the mix, a few masks and curse words and we have the ‘New York Record’, AKA ‘Time Clocks’.”

Wonderful time last night ! All hard working people That were there to entertain the people that spent hard earned money to be there , they all , the band that is , knew this and showed their appreciation by putting on a splendid display of their god given talent , they proved to everyone there last night that they honed this talent . At the end of the show Mr Bonamassa took time at his bus , took selfies and chatted with a handful of fans , we spoke with other band members and found them all down to earth and very approachable. I first had the privilege 15-17 yrs ago of seeing Joe in Santa Cruz , Calif. last night it had been 7 times at his concerts 6 times here in Scotland , I will be seeing him again and again !

I've seen Joe about five times now and this was well below his usual standard.

He played very few of his older numbers and left most of the audience bewildered and very disappointed. he seemed to be promoting his new album that isn't even coming out until September this year. By then most of us will have forgotten what it sounds like. However, it seems Joe is leaving his Blues music behind and going more rock. This, for me, is a no no!! if this is the road he is going down then I wont be buying his albums in the future and will certainly not spend the money going to see him. The couple sat next to us early as they were so disappointed.

To summarise: very disappointing concert. No one was singing along as on one knew the songs he was playing.

An OK show, but not worth the 2.5hr hassle of getting there and back (or the £100/ticket)! Only played two of the numbers I knew, the rest was new stuff. Why do these people assume we want new stuff? We don't, we want to hear live the songs we've become fond of over the years. Excellent musicians when playing together, but too much 'look what I can do' solos, which actually weren't that great. Love Blues of Desperation album and know it intimately, was hoping to hear more of it live. Sorry, won't be rushing to book tickets next time as I did this.

Joe Bonamassa has announced new UK tour dates across April and May next year. The dates include two nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

  • READ MORE: “Am I a guitar player? No. I’m an entertainer”: Joe Bonamassa is out of lockdown with new album Time Clocks

The announcement comes ahead of Bonamassa’s new album Time Clocks , which is set to arrive on 29 October this year. The record will form a chunk of the tour’s setlist, alongside previous records such as as well as tracks from his vast catalogue of albums such as Royal Tea , Redemption , Blues Of Desperation and The Ballad Of John Henry .

Speaking to Guitar.com ahead of the new album, Bonamassa revealed how he was affected by a sudden halt being called on decades of relentless touring. “It was like okay, what are you? Am I a guitar player? No. Am I a singer? No. Songwriter? No. I’m an entertainer,” he said. “The three things I just described feed into the one thing I think I’m actually good at, which is entertaining.”

“That means in a room, with people, reading a room and a crowd. That was my takeaway from a year of being stuck in a house full of guitars. If I didn’t have a reason to play, I wouldn’t play. I wasn’t just playing because I wanted to learn this or learn that. A lot of people did. I probably got worse in the last year!”

The full list of dates is below. Tickets go on presale tomorrow (8 September) at planetrocktickets.co.uk , and on general sale this Friday (10 September) a jbonamassa.com .

  • 20 – The Armadillo, Glasgow
  • 22 – Cardiff Motorpoint Arena
