It is hard to describe the Jazz-music of Joshua Redman with words. You should visit youtube. Listening to his music (including all the band members)I get really excited. The band winds you up and he has definitly his own musical-identity.

I was present at the concert of "The Trondheim Jazz Orchestra" in March 2013 at Krefeld Germany, where Joshua Redman was guest tenorsaxophonist. The "Orchestra" did a great performance thanks to themselves and of course thanks to Joshua. He acted as a unpretentious teamplayer.

I was also very happy with the modesty of the German audience. October 2013 I was for the 1st time present at a concert of Joshua Redman & Band at the Bimhuis Amsterdam. The venue "Bimhuis" is great. The distance from the band to the audience is very little, so you enjoy the live performance in a great way. The soundmixman had a hearing problem, as the treble was very dominant. It's also a pity that the Dutch audience always talks at a very high volume.

One of the better shows I've seen in a long time. Mr Redman should make it a point to come to Houston more often. I like that he paid tribute to his father. There was an award presented to his father accepted by him from Prairie View A&M University sheet his father was an alumni. Overall it was a great show

An incredible show, really in synch with The Bad Plus. Five Stars! I havent seen him in years, but he was better than ever. Hard Bop quickly merged with amazing structured beautiful almost classically based jazz.

Joshu-Redman-NPR-Tiny-Desk-Concert

Saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman makes his first-ever appearance on NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert series performing music from his acclaimed Blue Note debut where are we featuring vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa.

You can watch Redman and his band perform “Chicago Blues,” a mash-up of Count Basie and Sufjan Stevens, Bruce Springsteen’s poignant “Streets of Philadelphia,” and Redman’s powerful original “After Minneapolis” in footage from the concert available on the official NPR Tiny Desk website .

where are we is one of Redman’s most compelling albums to date, a spellbinding musical journey across the United States of America that marks his first-ever vocal project. “The surface concept is rather simple,” said Redman. “Each of the songs on the album is about, or at least makes reference to, a specific geographical location (city or state or region) in the United States. So, on one level, this is an album ‘about’ America — at once a celebration and a critique. But it is also, to varying degrees, a ballads album, a standards album, an album of romantic longing, an album of social reflection, an album of melodic invention, an album of improvisational adventure, an album of mashups, perhaps even a tribute album of sorts.”

Joshua Redman will continue to tour the project across North America, Asia, and Europe throughout 2024 with Cavassa and his young band featuring pianist Paul Cornish, bassist Philip Norris, and drummer Nazir Ebo.

Joshua Redman Group feat. Gabrielle Cavassa “Where Are We” Tour

Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder Concert Pick

joshua redman tour

February 6 at the Dakota, is the Joshua Redman Group featuring vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa. As part of the “Where Are We” tour, Redman, a saxophonist who made his debut on the Blue Note label with his new album titled “where are we,” will take listeners on a musical journey across the USA—every track (excluding the title track at the end) references a city or geographic location.

Redman references Minneapolis on the new album with the first track, “After Minneapolis (face toward mo[u]rning).” On this same track, he also references the George Floyd killing with lyrics he wrote that Cavassa sings.

In the liner notes, Redman explains, “On one level, this an album ‘about’ America—at once a celebration and a critique—but it is also, to varying degrees, a ballads album, a standards album, an album of romantic longing, an album of social reflection, an album of melodic invention, an album of improvisational adventure, an album of mash-ups, perhaps even a tribute album of sorts.”

The rest of the personnel for this album include pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Joe Sanders, and drummer Brian Blade. Plus, providing additional instrumentation for the album is Kurt Rosenwinkel on guitar, Peter Bernstein on guitar, Nicholas Payton on trumpet, Joel Ross on vibes, and Cavassa also plays guitar.

My favorite track on the album is “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans” featuring Payton. Redman and Payton have played and recorded together in the past and they sound great together now. ( Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder )

Original show description below.

For Joshua Redman , the search for new sounds often flows from his most enduring musical relationships. In assembling the quintet for his 2023 album Where Are We the Berkeley saxophone star turned to an all-star cast of players with whom he’s shaped the contemporary jazz scene for some three decades.

Since making a name for himself in Redman’s 1994 MoodSwing quartet, Brian Blade has become one of the era’s definitive drummers. They’ve maintained a close working relationship over the years though their collaborations accelerated with the Ornette Coleman/Dewey Redman-inspired quartet Still Dreaming and the reassembled MoodSwing quartet with Brad Mehldau and Christian McBride.

Pianist/keyboardist Aaron Parks toured and recorded with Redman as a member of the collective quartet James Farm (with then-SFJAZZ Collective members Matt Penman and Eric Harland). And while bassist Joe Sanders hadn’t recorded with Redman before Where Are We they’ve performed together widely over the past decade in various trio and quartet settings. The newcomer is New Orleans-based vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Cavassa , co-winner of the 2021 International Sarah Vaughan Jazz Vocal Competition. Raised in the San Diego area, she fell in love with jazz while attending San Francisco State and started sitting in at Club Deluxe. She blossomed in New Orleans as a performer, bandleader and composer, earning critical raves for her eponymous 2020 Jamison Ross-produced debut album. In joining forces with Redman and friends, she’s making another major leap.

Saxophonist Joshua Redman premieres his new quartet with Aaron Parks, Joe Sanders, and Brian Blade, performing music from his new album Where Are We with vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa.

Joshua Redman Group featuring Gabrielle Cavassa "where are we" Tour

One of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists of his generation, Joshua Redman has released over twenty albums and is a previous winner of the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. His latest release, "where are we" (Blue Note), features typically brilliant supporting partners and (in a first for Redman) built around a dynamic vocalist. The Joshua Redman Group featuring Gabrielle Cavassa will make their Denver debut at the Newman Center on March 1 featuring Paul Cornish on piano, Philip Norris on bass and Nazir Ebo on drums.

"Doing a record with a vocalist was something I thought I'd probably get to  eventually,"  Redman explains, laughing. "I guess I decided I was 'ready.'" He found the perfect partner in young vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa. "Once I heard Gabrielle, I realized that she has an expressive quality and an intimacy and a vulnerability in her sound that is singularly captivating."

Born in Berkeley, California Redman is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. In 1991 Redman graduated from Harvard College summa cum laude and had already been accepted by Yale Law School, but deferred entrance for what he believed was only going to be one year. Instead, he moved to New York City and immediately found himself immersed in the city’s burgeoning jazz scene. Since then, Redman has worked and played with a vast array of jazz luminaries and has garnered top honors in critics and readers polls of DownBeat, Jazz Times, The Village Voice and Rolling Stone.

The Joshua Redman Group featuring Gabrielle Cavassa appears in part through the generosity of the Christina and John Hatherly Visiting Artist Fund. Presented by KUVO Jazz .

11-time Grammy nominated saxophonist and composer Joshua Redman is one of today’s foremost contemporary jazz artists. Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
  • The interval in the movement of trains in rush hour is  90 seconds .

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.
