Ever since I saw my first travel tracker map on Pinterest I have wanted one. There are so many to choose from and of course some creative DIY tricks to do at home but I wanted to invest in a nice one to give my boyfriend and I some extra travel inspiration. We were so excited to open our new World Travel Tracker Map ! It came nicely packaged, in a cool triangular box. We like that Landmass has put so much thought into these packages, adding little details like a “plane tab” that you have to pull to open the box.

Once we opened the box there was a cardboard tube inside. That tube contained the map, which was also wrapped in tissue paper. This map was very well packaged!

It also came with instructions on how to flatten the map. Basically, roll it in the opposite direction but be extra careful not to crease the map. We did that, but still end up using a phone to hold down one of the corners.

Then we started scratching! The map is basically like a lottery scratch off ticket; you use a coin to scratch off the countries that you’ve been to. The map has a gold top foil that reveals bright colors underneath and the US, Canada, and Australia are divided further into states. Underneath there are also 210 flags of the world that you can scratch off too.

The map size is 17″ x 24″. If you’d like to frame it, Landmass recommends putting it in an 18″ x 24″ frame.

Color: A majority of scratch maps on the market today have a “black sea” of water. Inspired Maps uses a light blue waters and bright, jewel colored tones for those who appreciate a more “traditional” look. Also included topographic elements to add dimension to the map (i.e.- mountainous terrain, rivers, etc)

Outlined States/Provinces are included for: USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Russia, China & Brazil (Note: Mexico is also divided into different states but the states are not named on the map- just the outlines).

Experienced Cartographer: Inspired Maps worked closely with a cartographer in the U.S. with over 25 years of cartographic experience. He used a cartographic computer program to ensure accurate labelling of countries, seas, etc. (None of the country names, seas, etc. were manually typed, which is not the case with all scratch maps, as we have noticed some maps with spelling errors).

We have the world map and it’s great but I’d love to see one of just the Caribbean! We like to travel to different islands down there but these maps obviously have a difficult time capturing such small areas.

I absolutely love the book! After reading your book, I again looked to Simon Winchester’s book, “The Map that Changed the World”, William Smith and the birth of geology. It’s a rather sad story but the ultimately Mr. Smith was recognized for his innovative mind.
