Golf clubs of the top 50 LPGA pros (WITB)

lpga tour golf clubs

Women’s golf is becoming increasingly popular and is catching up to men’s golf rapidly. This study on the increasing purse sizes of LPGA major tournaments confirms this fact. The purse of the Women’s PGA Championship has nearly doubled since 2013. You can read more about it here.

At this moment, the number of female golfers in the world is probably the highest in recorded history, and this number is rising year by year. Each year, thousands of young girls grab their first golf clubs and embark on their golfing journeys. These budding lady golfers often wonder which clubs their role models use to win the most prestigious tournaments.

Driven by this fact, our team at Golf Reporter looked into the golf bags of the top 50 LPGA professionals. We found some shocking statistics that might surprise many of you. In this article, we’ll talk about the golf clubs used by the top 50 LPGA pros, including the driver, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters.

However, it is worth noting that this data is for 44 out of the top 50 LPGA pros. The information for the remaining 6 golfers was either wholly or partially unavailable. These are Pajaree Anannarukarn, Yealimi Noh, Wei-Ling Hsu, Shanshan Feng, Su Oh, and Lauren Stephenson. That is why we have left those 6 out of this study.

We have compiled all the data into a table for your convenience. Here it is.

Analysis and Findings

After collecting the data and codifying it into a table, we began looking for patterns, and we found some quite interesting ones. We have classified them into respective club categories.

The driver and the putter are the only two clubs guaranteed to be in every golf bag. Or so we thought. Oddly, one LPGA pro does not use the driver, and she’s quite a prominent figure.

We’re talking about world number 5, Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand. She does not have a driver in her bag. Instead, she uses her 3-wood or her utility iron in the tee box.

Apparently, Ping drivers are all the rage among LPGA pros as 10 of them opt for them, with Ping G425 being the most popular. Patty Tavatanakit (world number 3) is the highest-ranking LPGA pro who uses Ping drivers. Not far behind is TaylorMade, with 8 users, including Moriya Jutanugarn (world number 11), who uses the M2 driver.

Callaway, PXG, and Titleist are the next ones in line, with 7, 6, and 5 users, respectively. The world number one, Nelly Korda, uses the Titleist TSi1 driver with Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 6S shaft.

Most of these LPGA golfers have different loft settings, but 15 of them prefer to go with the 9 degrees option. Furthermore, 10 players have chosen Fujikura shafts as their preferred option, while 9 others prefer Graphite Design or Mitsubishi shafts.

Fairway Woods

The configuration of fairway woods varies from person to person. Some prefer to use only a single club, while others prefer two or even three. Usually, 3-wood is the widely used choice of most golfers, and this list conforms to this fact. Everyone in this list uses a 3-wood, except one.

Nanna Koerstz Madsen is the only pro in the top 50 who doesn’t use the 3 wood. Interestingly, she’s also the only one who uses the 4-wood.

17 of these golfers also use a 5-wood along with their 3-wood. However, only four LPGA pros still use the extremely rare 7-wood, including the world number one, Nelly Korda. Her sister Jessica Korda, Leona Maguire, and Lizette Salas are the other three who use the 7-wood.

Here, Callaway has managed to get the better of its rivals by securing the trust of 11 golfers. Callaway is followed by Ping and TaylorMade, with 9 and 7 players, respectively. PXG, Titleist, and Srixon come next, with 6, 5, and 4 users, respectively.

34 LPGA pros from the top 50 keep hybrid golf clubs in their bags, which clearly suggests their widespread popularity among women golfers. This number is significantly higher than their male counterparts. You can read more about this here. In addition, nearly half (16) of these hybrids using women golfers prefer to play with a 19-degree loft.

In hybrid clubs, Ping is back on top with 9 players choosing their products. PXG is the 2nd most popular brand with 6 users. Other giants, including TaylorMade and Titleist, have only four users each. This might suggest that these brands have apparently not won the trust of women golfers when it comes to hybrids. Callaway is even farther behind with merely 3 users.

Similar to fairway woods, the configuration of irons varies from golfer to golfer. However, we found an arrangement that has repeated itself several times, 16 to be exact. The majority of LPGA pros favor a 5-iron to pitching wedge assortment. While only four golfers avoid the 5-iron and have 6-iron to pitching wedge iron sets. In addition, Nippon has established itself as the most preferred choice for iron shafts as 10 LPGA pros choose their products.

Here too, Ping has emerged as the most trusted choice with 10 players. Srixon makes a surprise appearance with 6 users along with Titleist and PXG. They are followed by TaylorMade and Callaway, each of whom is used by 5 players.

Titleist makes a dramatic recovery in the wedges section. Titleist Vokey wedges have cemented themselves as one of the most reliable wedges for LPGA pros with 16 users. World number one, Nelly Korda, along with 8 others, uses their latest SM8 version.

Ping and PXG are the next most popular brands with 9 and 8 users, respectively. Cleveland Golf makes a dramatic appearance with 4 users, with Minjee Lee (world number 10) as the highest-ranking golfer who uses them.

Callaway and TaylorMade also fail to make a mark with only a handful of users. 4 players use Callaway wedges while only 2 choose TaylorMade wedges.

Callaway makes a strong comeback in the putters category, thanks to their state-of-the-art Odyssey putters. 12 golfers play with Odyssey putters, with Ariya Jutanugarn (world number 5) and Inbee Park (world number 6) as the highest-ranking golfers.

Titleist’s Scotty Cameron putters are not far behind with 10 users. Current world number one, Nelly Korda and her sister Jessica (world number 7), both use Scotty Cameron putters. Besides these two sisters, three others from the top 10 (total 5) are regular Scotty Cameron putter users.

Ping comes in at the third spot with 9 users. Leona Maguire (world number 8) is the highest-ranking golfer to use Ping putters. Other brands like TaylorMade and PXG are at 4th and 5th positions, respectively, with 5 and 4 players.

Bettinardi Golf makes its first appearance with two users, Patty Tavatanakit (world number 3) and Nasa Hataoka (world number 18). Other brands to make an appearance are Piretti and Swag Golf.

Great info all in one place. My distances relate to mid or lower length LPGA pros and have been looking to properly gap the upper end of the bag. Two really strong trends split about 50/50 are shown here with a little variation on the 4H, 4I, or 4U:

3 wood (15), 5 wood (18), 4 hybrid (22-23) [sometimes 4U/ 4I] or 3 wood (15), 3 hybrid (19-20), 4I [sometimes 4H 22-23]

In case anyone else has tried some different setups and may relate – I’ve tried eliminating a 3 wood twice, due to the fitting recommendations of the higher lofted woods creating more carry and controlled decent. Tried a strong lofted 5 wood, 7 wood and gapping from there. Each time I found myself missing a 3 wood for certain situations fairly often. Seeing this list helps confirm the setup options I need to test.

Always more of a challenge to get current women’s witb info. Thanks for putting it together and sharing some analysis.

Good info. Could you also give details of their shaft flexes (R, S, XS)? Would help golfers with similar swing speeds. Thanks

Most of them have the shaft flexes listed. I’m guessing the one’s that don’t weren’t available.

What Irons Do LPGA Players Use? Top 50 Pros Analysis (2021)

Titleist T100 7-iron

When it comes to selecting your next set of irons it is likely that you would be better seeing what can be learned from the iron sets of the top LPGA Tour pros rather than their male colleagues.

Swing speeds of the average male golfer match much more closely to LPGA Tour players than they do to the best players in the men’s game, and although there is little else in common between the average golfer and the top women pros from a skill perspective, there is plenty to learn from the iron choices of best women pros.

So we took a detailed look at the irons the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour are using.

14 different brands and 38 models of irons are used by the top 50 LPGA Tour golfers. PING is the dominant brand among this group with 12 players choosing them. Titleist and PXG irons are the next most played with 7 and 6 golfers each using them. The most common iron set up, chosen by over 50%, is 5-iron to pitching wedge .

The number of different brands and iron models used by some of the best players in the women’s game highlights how precise each player clearly is when it comes to choosing their equipment.

Each player is determined to find the best iron set up that matches their game, swing and desired ball flight and as such it is no surprise to find such a variety of irons among this elite LPGA group as they all strive to maximise the advantages individual irons give them.

Despite this variety however when you look at the irons used by the top 50 LPGA players, including the shafts they choose, some general trends do emerge which we believe every average player can learn from.

It is also fascinating to see the similarities between the iron choices of many of the top women pros and their male colleagues on the PGA Tour.

PING i210 7-iron

Breakdown of Most Popular Irons Used on the LPGA Tour

Comparing iron sets between different players is not as easy a task as it used to be.

Not all that long ago the top players in both the women’s and the men’s game would be choosing a 3-iron to pitching wedge iron set with the occasional player adding a 1-iron or 2-iron into the mix.

With the advent of driving/utility irons and especially hybrids however, there is now no such thing as a ‘standard’ set of irons as different LPGA players now choose to start their iron set with either a 4-iron, 5-iron or even 6-iron.

Many also do not bother with the pitching wedge common to the rest of their irons and prefer to play 3 or 4 specialist wedges instead.

And that is before we even consider the 8 out of the top 50 LPGA players who are using two and even three different types and models of irons in their set of clubs.

In spite of these trends though we managed to pull together a complete analysis of the irons used by the top 50 LPGA Tour players in order to discover what the most popular irons on the tour are.

PING’s i210 irons are the most popular irons among the top 50 LPGA golfers. 8 players use them for all their iron set with another 3 pros using a number of i210 irons alongside other models. Titleist’s T100 irons are the second most popular with 5 using them. PXG’s 0311 P Gen3 and 0211 ST irons are the next most used.

No data was available for 3 of the top 50 players – Pajaree Anannarukarn, Yealimi Noh and Xiyu Lin – but it is interesting to note that no other iron model from any of the other manufacturers, with the exception of Mizuno’s JPX 919 Tour irons, was used by more than one of the top 50 players.

It is also interesting to note that the two most popular iron sets among the top 50 on the LPGA Tour are exactly the same models as the two most popular iron models used by the top 100 players on the PGA Tour.

The only difference on the PGA Tour is that Titleist’s T100 irons are the most popular with PING’s i210 being second.

Turning our attention then to the iron set ups of the top 50 pros on the LPGA Tour we noted, after discounting driving/utility irons from the comparison, that the dominant iron set up choice is 5-iron to pitching wedge with close to half of this elite group choosing that set up.

15 of the top 50 then prefer to start their iron set with a 4-iron and carry irons all the way through to a pitching wedge with the other iron set ups proving to be much less popular.

The chart below shows the full range of iron set ups currently being used by the top 50 LPGA players.

Iron set ups breakdown of the top 50 LPGA players

The complete breakdown of which irons used are used by the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour, including golfers who only use one individual iron of a particular model, is as follows:

Do LPGA Players Use Blades?

There are probably not many areas where the average golfer would assume the best LPGA players in the world have led the way but when it comes to iron type selection they have.

I remember years ago having the privilege to caddie for a Ladies European Tour player when one of their events was hosted at my home club and I always remember being struck by her bag containing not one blade iron.

Having grown up assuming all top players all used blades and cavity backs were the preserve of beginner and high handicap golfers this took me by surprise but given the quality of her shot making I should probably have paid more attention before I wasted my money buying my next set of blades which were far too hard for me to hit.

Looking at the iron set ups of the top 50 LPGA players today this trend of preferring cavity back irons over blades has clearly continued to the present.

In total only 3 of the top 50 Top LPGA players use blades. Megan Khang and Ryann O’Toole use a full set with Austin Ernst also using blades from 7-iron to pitching wedge. 44 use cavity back irons and this number increases to 45 when you take account of pros who use at least one cavity back iron as part of a mixed iron set.

When we looked previously at the iron set ups of the top players on the PGA Tour we found an increasing trend in that elite group of a preference for cavity backs over blade irons to the extent that blade iron players are now very much in the minority at the top of the mens game.

In this regard therefore it would seem that the best LPGA professionals have come more quickly to the conclusion than their male colleagues that they achieve better results by choosing the extra forgiveness and distance that is afforded to golfers using cavity back irons.

Graph of number of top 50 LPGA Tour players using blade and cavity back irons

[Note – if you are interested in comparing the irons chosen by the top players on the LPGA with the PGA Tour check out our analysis of the irons used by the top 100 players on the PGA Tour here .]

What Iron Shafts Do LPGA Players Use?

While the top LPGA players set the trend when it came to using cavity back irons in preference to blades when we look at the iron shafts this elite group use they are clearly different to the ones used by the top men pros.

And the most obvious difference is evident when it comes to the shaft flex most LPGA players use.

As a general rule the top 50 LPGA players use either regular or stiff iron shafts. 11 players use stiff shafts in their irons while 7 use regular iron shafts. 2 players use a regular+ iron shaft while Ally Ewing is the only player who uses a stiff flex shaft in her 5-iron but a regular shaft from 6-iron to pitching wedge.

Unfortunately no iron shaft data is available for 27 out of the top 50 LPGA players but it is clear that when it comes to their irons the top women pros prefer a softer flex of iron shaft compared to their male colleagues as a result of their slower swing speed.

When it comes to the material of iron shafts used by the best LPGA players it is also clear that they are much more willing to use graphite iron shafts.

In total we found 11 of the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour use graphite iron shafts in their set with another 24 preferring steel shafted irons. Ally Ewing was again an outlier using a graphite iron shaft in her 5-iron before switching to a steel iron shaft for the rest of her irons.

A complete data set was again not available when it came to comparing how many LPGA players use graphite iron shafts with no data being available for 15 players on this topic and although there was no data on 26 players out of the top 50 when it came to looking at the weight of the iron shafts they choose we found the following for the rest.

As a whole a wide range of iron shaft weights is used by the top 50 LPGA players from 64g up to 131g. 5 players use iron shafts between 100 to 110g with 1 player each choosing a 115g, 125g and 131g shaft. Under the 100g mark 9 players use irons shafts between 90 and 100g with the most popular shaft weight being 106.5g.

Nippon iron shafts are the most popular brand of shafts among the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour with KBS and Aerotech iron shafts being the next most used brands. Nippon’s N.S. Pro 950GH is the most used individual shaft among this elite group with 8 players choosing it.

Here is a breakdown of the iron golf shafts used currently by the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour.

LIVES Orlando

STORY Has won 19 LPGA Tour events, two of them majors.

KEEP AN OPEN MIND As a free agent, testing clubs for the 2022 season, I was ready to try anything. Having an open mind led to some surprising changes: You may not have heard of Proto Concept, the Japanese irons I play, or my IOMIC grips, which I’ve used for a long time. Test without expectations; what’s best for you could be something you would never consider. —With Keely Levins

SPECS Titleist TSR3, 9°, Mitsubishi Kurokage XD50 S shaft.

The most important piece of information for me when testing drivers is accuracy. I’m not one of the longest hitters on the LPGA Tour, and I don’t feel pressure to change that. My goal is to increase my fairways-hit percentage [66.4 in 2022], and this driver is accurate.

FAIRWAY WOODS/HYBRID

SPECS Titleist TSR2+, 13°, Mitsubishi Kurokage XD60 S shaft; Titleist TSR2, 18° fairway, Mitsubishi Diamana PD60 S shaft; Ping G425, 22°, Graphite Design Tour AD IZ 65 R1 shaft.

I find hybrids easier to hit than long irons. In fact, I’ve never even carried a 4-iron.

SPECS Titleist T200 (5-iron), Proto Concept CO7 (6-iron), Proto Concept CO5 (7-9); all Aerotech SteelFiber FC 70 shafts, IOMIC 1.8 grips.

Proto Concept irons are so consistent yet forgiving. I don’t tend to launch the ball high, so I like that the higher ball flight with my Titleist T200 5-iron helps stop longer shots on the greens.

SPECS Titleist Vokey SM9 (46°, 48°, 54°, 59°); Aerotech SteelFiber FC 80 shafts.

If you look at the stamp on my 58, you’ll see a 59. It’s bent to 59 degrees. I’ve tried both 58- and 60-degree wedges, but I found the 59 is best because of its versatility. It has enough loft to do what you need to around the greens but not so much loft that you can’t hit pitch shots with it, too.

SPECS Scotty Cameron P5 GSS tour prototype; 34 inches, 3.5°.

This is my favorite club, and it helped me finish the year ranked No. 1 in strokes gained/putting. I used a few putters throughout the season, but I always lean toward a mallet. The center shaft fits my eye and helps my setup.

ALL-AROUND BALL

When testing the Titleist Pro V1 and the Pro V1x, I found the V1x gave me the spin I wanted around the greens and provided the distance I needed in my long game.

I like to snack on seasonal fruit with almond butter while I play. I always pack a big container of it. I also like to make sandwiches out of rice cakes and bananas.

I’ve heard lots of horror stories about lost luggage this season. Some players used Apple AirTags to find their clubs. Luckily, I haven’t had to use mine, but it’s good to have just in case.

Nelly Korda What's In The Bag?

Five years younger than fellow LPGA player and sister Jessica Korda , Nelly Korda has become a star of the women's game, winning multiple times on the LPGA Tour, competing in Solheim Cups, winning a Major in 2021, and also winning Olympic gold in Tokyo. Here, we take a closer look at her choice of clubs.

What Driver Does Nelly Korda Use?

Nelly Korda

Korda is a brand ambassador for TaylorMade. Previously, Korda, who has also ticked off being World No.1, used a Titleist TSi1 driver, but this is no longer the case. Her weapon of choice is now the TaylorMade Qi10 Max driver , 10.5°, which is fitted with a Mitsubishi Diamana GT 60 S shaft.

With a vastly different head shape to the TaylorMade norm and exceptional levels of forgiveness, we believe that this driver could be a real market disruptor; it's incredibly easy to launch and with impressive stability, it's sure to hold a lot of appeal for many golfers. It's unquestionably one of the best golf drivers in the game.

“The reason why I picked the Qi10 Max driver is the look of it compared to the other models. When I put it down and look at it I feel like I can hit any shot I want with the subtle blue face and silver topline,” Korda says.

“When I look down at it I feel like I can aim it realy well and I know where the center of the clubface too. For a golfer, if you don’t like the look of the club, you’re never going to be able to it hit. Once I put the Qi10 Max down and teed it up, I feel like I could hit any shot I wanted to.”

What Fairway Wood Does Nelly Korda Use?

The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Fairway wood resting on the golf course with its club head cover

Korda plays two TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods , one of which acts as her three-wood with 15° of loft, and the other is more of a seven-wood with 21° of loft. They feature the Fujikura Ventus Red 7 S and Fujikura Ventus Black 7 S shafts, respectively.

Having put this club to the test on the golf course, we were very impressed with the feedback it offered; it is a very consistent club that caters to less experienced players, thanks mostly to how the weight is distributed lower in the clubhead.

What Hybrid Does Nelly Korda Use?

ping-g425-hybrid-review

It is our understanding that Korda also carries a hybrid, the Ping G425 , which has 26° of loft and features a Fujikura Ventus Blue HB 7 S shaft. It sounds as though this is a bit of an old favorite that helps do a job at the top end of the bag, especially with long approaches or tee shots on tight holes where precision is required.

What Irons Does Nelly Korda Use?

TaylorMade P7MC 2023 Iron Review

Korda, one of the best ball strikers in the women's game, has a mixed line-up of TaylorMade irons . Her 5-iron is a TaylorMade P770 ; then she plays TaylorMade P7MC irons (6-PW), which is a hugely popular model on Tour. Her irons are fitted with the AeroTech SteelFiber i80 cw shaft.

The TaylorMade P770 irons were relaunched back in the summer of 2020, and the second generation of these clubs earned a spot in our  Editor's Choice awards  for 2023 due to it's exceptional performance.

What Wedges Does Nelly Korda Use?

Photo of the taylormade mg4 wedge

At the bottom end of the bag, Korda carries two TaylorMade MG4 wedges (50°-09SB, 54°-13HB). These two wedges are fitted with AeroTech SteelFiber i95 cw shafts. This is a great-looking wedge that spins at a consistently high level regardless of conditions. We also found it to be grippy on longer chips and pitches, too.

That's not the wedge line-up complete, because Korda also has a Titleist Vokey WedgeWorks (58° T Grind), which she has personalised with her initials.

What Putter Does Nelly Korda Use?

A close up of Nelly Korda's putter

Korda used to own a Scotty Cameron Special Select Squareback 2 Prototype, but it appears that she is now using a Logan Olson prototype, which features a TaylorMade Golf Pride Pistol grip. This is a model that she was spotted using at the Grant Thornton Invitational . It's a similar model that Scottie Scheffler used to win the Hero World Challenge.

Although there is limited information on the putter, Olson Golf is a company formed by Logan Olson, who, according to his Instagram page, is a "Metal worker, programmer, machinist and your friendly neighborhood putter maker."

It's not clear whether Korda has settled on the model, and we may well see her revert back to her Scotty Cameron, a brand, of course, that crafts some of the very best putters on the market.

What Ball Does Nelly Korda Use?

Tp5x balls

Korda plays the TaylorMade TP5x golf ball, which has been one of the best premium golf balls that money can buy for some time. This ball offers a firmer feel compared to its sibling, the TaylorMade TP5 golf ball. If you are after a more 'clicky' feel around the greens and powerful 'thud' from the tee, the TP5x golf ball is for you.

What Shoes Does Nelly Korda Wear?

A post shared by Nelly (@nellykorda) A photo posted by on

Korda is the perfect fit for Nike. In 2023, she announced her apparel deal with the sportswear giant with a social media post. As well as wearing Nike clothing, the American star wears Nike shoes . We believe there are some new models on the way, and we would expect to see Korda wearing some eye-catching styles as the 2024 season progresses.

5 Most Popular Irons On The LPGA Tour (2023 Update)

Women are grabbing their golf clubs at an increasing rate across the country and worldwide. The popularity of golf seems to be increasing as the number of female golfers participating in the LPGA is currently double what it was in 2013. So, what are the most popular irons on the LPGA Tour in 2023?

The 5 most popular irons on the LPGA Tour are:

  • T aylorMade Stealth Women’s Irons
  • Callaway Rogue ST Max Lite
  • Titleist T300 Women’s Irons
  • Callaway Big Bertha Reva
  • Cleveland Launcher XL Halo

The LPGA is a testament to the sport’s growing popularity among women. Ladies are picking up golf club sets around the country with the hope of one day participating in the Tour, and many women wonder what irons their role models use to win prestigious competitions.

LPGA Tour Players Mix And Match Their Irons

Many LPGA Tour players don’t have complete sets of one brand of irons but mix and match between brands and clubs based on what irons they prefer. So shorter irons could be one brand and longer irons another.

It is also known that many pro ladies prefer cavity back irons and use hybrids instead of long irons. You may also find that some women players have a complete set of irons from 4-PW and then have a different brand for a 3-iron or driving iron.

Most Popular Irons On The LPGA Tour

The five most popular irons on the LPGA 2023 are T aylorMade Stealth Women’s Irons, Callaway Rogue ST Max Lite, Titleist T300 Women’s Irons, Callaway Big Bertha Reva, and Cleveland Launcher XL Halo.

With the surge of participation in the LPGA, more and more women are choosing golf as a sport. You can witness its increased popularity in the growing number of female participants in the LGPA. Many women wonder what irons other players use, and new data clarifies the favorites.

As with all sports, golfers have preferences regarding what irons they choose. However, some irons are favored over others. Interestingly, more and more golfers are moving from irons to hybrids , but you can avoid this if you find a suitable iron.

Some women struggle with confidence when using their irons, so knowing you have a brand you can rely on is helpful.

Lexi Thompson

1. TaylorMade Stealth Women’s Irons

TaylorMade Stealth Women’s Irons ranks highly among LPGA players. They are new on the market and have improved appearance compared to other models of irons. In addition, the sleek design puts it in the top spot for aesthetic appeal.

The Cap Back design feature of these irons means they lend themselves to more consistency. They are known for launching the ball high and staying relatively straight.

If you struggle with launching the ball, Stealth irons can help produce a higher launch and improved extended carry.

Stealth features the first inclusion of carbon material in TaylorMade products. This has led to high ball speed, with some players believing this is the most elevated ball speed iron for women on the market.

Compared to other irons, Stealth is known to have a good feel, largely thanks to the Echo Damping System, which helps to absorb vibration on impact. The carbon material, face flexibility, and Echo Damping give these irons a better feel than most irons.

2. The Callaway Rogue ST Max Lite Irons

The Callaway Rogue ST Max Lite irons are at the top of the range for forgiveness and are favored on the LPGA Tour. This can be attributed to the new face technology and lighter-weight construction of the iron.

They are also a sleeker and more appealing design than the Rogue original, thanks to the face optimization that was done. As a result, the club resembles the Apex more than the original Rogue.

If you want to improve your turf interaction and launch, this iron makes up for the down view, which is a bit thick.

This club is also suitable for adding distance. Callaway’s technology utilizes a process whereby the lofts are adjusted for distance. The downside of this iron is that you’ll likely need to work on control, although the precision tungsten weighting does help with this.

3. Titleist T300 Irons

Titleist T300 irons are also known for their forgiveness and are an excellent option for a lower handicap player. This club is recommended for those with a handicap of 15 or below.

These irons are regarded for their level of control, which can come at the price of distance. If your focus is on fine-tuning game elements like increasing and decreasing ball flight, these are ideal irons for you.

4. The Callaway Big Bertha Reva Irons

One of the most popular irons on the LPGA Tour is the Big Bertha Reva. This is a frontrunner for those looking to improve their slice. This iron looks like a forgiving cavity back iron for those with high and low handicaps. Although it may not be the most aesthetically appealing iron in the Callaway line, it is forgiving.

Its design will reduce any slice spin you put on the ball, mainly thanks to the strong heel weighting and the width of the base of the club. However, these clubs do not increase distance, so if that’s your concern, these are not the best choice.

These irons incorporate the urethane microsphere technology in previous models, which reduces vibration. As a result, the Reva is known for consistency but not so much for workability.

5. The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo Irons are not known for their sleek look. These clubs are bulky compared to other irons in their category but more than make up for this in forgiveness.

They differ from other makes because the head design is more significant than usual. They are good for getting a higher launch but do not add extra distance capacity. The precisely engineered grooves placed in the irons help to improve short game spin, even with a hybrid clubhead design.

They give good control and are easy to hit and keep spin under control with their high launch and steep decent angle.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Halo is easy to use with its big head and MainFrame variable face technology that increases ball speed. This iron is forgiving, thanks to the unique weight pad design across the face. In addition, it offers excellent control thanks to the eight-gram weight placed inside the end of the grip.

They are said to help develop a more consistent strike, with glide rails on the long irons delivering excellent turf interaction.

Woman Golfer

Final Thoughts

The LPGA is a testament to the sport’s growing popularity among women. As irons make up most of the clubs you’re allowed to carry in your bag, making the right choice is essential.

With the ever-increasing number of females playing golf, more variety is available to suit your specific needs, but remember that advice from a professional coach or club technician is always a good idea before making a purchase.

It will be interesting to see if and how these top irons used by the ladies on Tour change over the coming years as manufacturers jostle to move up the popularity rankings. But for now, these 5 irons are well ahead of the chasing pack.

Lexi Thompson , one of the biggest stars in women's professional golf over the past 15 years, announced Tuesday that this will be her final season competing full time on the LPGA Tour.

"While it is never easy to say goodbye, it is indeed time," Thompson, 29, posted to Instagram. "At the end of 2024, I will be stepping away from a full professional golf schedule. I'm excited to enjoy the remainder of the year as there are still goals I want to accomplish.

"I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my life. Time with family, friends, and my trusted companion Leo . I will always look for ways to contribute to the sport and inspire the next generation of golfers. And of course, I look forward to a little time for myself."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lexi Thompson (@lexi)

Thompson, a two-time Olympian and six-time competitor in the Solheim Cup, said she wasn't sure how much golf she would play in the future. She said Tuesday she'd been contemplating retirement for a few months.

"I'm taking it day by day right now," Thompson told reporters at the U.S. Women's Open. "I'm not going to say yes or no on how many events I'll play or if I do. I'm just going to take it day by day and see how I feel, especially going into next year, but I'm very content with this being my last full-time schedule year."

Thompson became emotional while explaining her decision Tuesday, saying mental health was a factor.

"I think we all have our struggles, especially out here," she said. "Unfortunately in golf you lose more than you win, so it's an ongoing battle to continue to put yourself out there in front of the cameras and continuing to work hard and maybe not seeing the results you want and getting criticized for it. So it's hard.

"I will say, yes, I've struggled with it -- I don't think there's somebody out here that hasn't. It's just a matter of how well you hide it, which is very sad."

Thompson, a onetime child prodigy, will be making her 18th straight start in the U.S. Women's Open. She was the youngest golfer to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open -- doing it as a 12-year-old at Pine Needles in 2007 -- and she made the cut in the major as a 14-year-old in 2009.

She also won the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship in 2008 and compiled a 4-0-1 record for the U.S. team at the Curtis Cup in 2010.

Thompson, from Coral Springs, Florida, turned pro in 2010 and captured the first of her 11 LPGA victories at the Navistar LPGA Classic in September 2011. A 15-time winner around the world, Thompson's lone major championship victory came at the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California.

In her video "letter I wrote to the game of golf" that she posted to Instagram, Thompson described her relationship with the sport as "complicated at times."

She pulled out of the 2018 Women's British Open to "recharge her batteries" and focus on her life off the course. She has recently dealt with a lingering hand injury and missed the cut in four of her six starts this season. She is 64th in the tour's season-long points race.

"Although this has been an amazing journey, it hasn't always been an easy one," Thompson said in her video. "Since I was 12, as a golfer, my life has been a whirlwind of constant attention, scrutiny and pressure. The cameras are always on, capturing every swing and every moment on and off the golf course. Social media never sleeps, with comments and criticisms flooding in from around the world.

"It can be exhausting maintaining a smile on the outside while grappling with struggles on the inside. By opening up about my battles, I've been able to connect with others who feel isolated in their struggles, offering them a sense of community and understanding. Each time I share, it reinforces the message that it's OK to not be OK, and that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness."

Thompson spoke more about the loneliness she has experienced as a golfer while addressing reporters later Tuesday. She made a vague reference to Grayson Murray, who spoke openly about alcoholism and his struggles with depression and anxiety from life as a tour professional. Murray died by suicide on Saturday.

"Being out here can be a lot. It can be lonely," she said. "I just think -- especially with what's happened in golf, as of recent, too -- a lot of people don't realize a lot of what we go through as a professional athlete.

"We're doing what we love. We're trying the best every single day. You know, we're not perfect. We're humans. Words hurt. It's hard to overcome sometimes. ... I might not have a huge friend group, but to have the people that matter the most around me have gotten me through some really hard times."

LPGA star Nelly Korda was among many players who were surprised by Thompson's announcement.

"She's had such an amazing career," Korda said Tuesday. "I've gotten to be on the team with her a couple times representing our country. I think she does an amazing job for the Tour. She spends so much time going to each pro-am party. She really dedicated her time to growing the game.

"It's sad to see that she's obviously leaving and not going to be out here with us anymore, but she's had an amazing career, and I wish her the best in this new chapter of her life."

Thompson came painfully close to adding to her major total, finishing runner-up or third eight times in her 63 major starts. She had 19 top-10 finishes and 35 top 25s, including a tie for second in the 2022 Women's PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

Last season, Thompson became the seventh woman to compete on the PGA Tour at the Shriners Children's Open in Las Vegas. She posted a 2-under 69 in the second round to become the second woman to break 70 in a PGA Tour event. With a 36-hole total of even-par 142, Thompson nearly became the first woman in 80 years to make the cut in a PGA Tour event.

"Lexi's impact extends far beyond the golf course," LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said in a statement posted to X . "She embodies the spirit and dedication of our founders -- always showing up and engaging intentionally to help further the growth and impact of the LPGA. She is beloved by fans, consistently seen signing autographs and interacting with them no matter the result that day.

"... On behalf of the LPGA, I want to thank Lexi for her incredible contributions to our Tour and to women's golf. We wish her all the best in her next chapter, and we, along with the fans, look forward to watching her compete and celebrating her throughout the rest of the season."

Sport Lexi Thompson announces retirement from full-time LPGA Tour, ending historic golf career

Golfer Lexi Thompson cries during a press conference announcing her retirement at the US Women's Open.

Former teen prodigy, major champion and all-round history-maker, Lexi Thompson has revealed 2024 will be her last year as a full-time member of the LPGA Tour.

Thompson is an 11-time LPGA Tour winner — including her lone major at the 2014 Chevron Championship, then known as the Kraft Nabisco Championship — and represented the United States in six Solheim Cups as well as two Olympic Games.

"Golf has been my life ever since I was five years old, tournaments when I was 7," Thompson said from Lancaster Country Club, site of this week's US Women's Open.

"I haven't really known much of a life different, but it's been an amazing one.

"This sport has taught me a lot, and I've learned so much along the way, built so many friendships and relationships. I'm looking forward to what life has in store."

Despite being just 29 years old, Thompson will begin her 18th US Women's Open on Thursday.

Thompson qualified for the 2007 edition of the tournament at the age of 12, then the youngest ever to accomplish the feat. She turned professional at age 15 and at 16 became the youngest player to win an LPGA tournament by capturing the 2011 Navistar Classic. Both records since have been broken.

Thompson became the seventh woman to compete on the men's PGA Tour when she participated in the 2023 Shriners Children's Open, missing the cut by two strokes.

Thompson currently is 54th in the women's world rankings, but she has missed each of her past three cuts as she has played through a hand injury.

"I haven't been playing the golf that I expect myself to, but my hand has been unbelievably better," Thompson said, when asked if injury was at least part of the reason she decided to retire.

"I've actually been able to go out there and swing without pain, which is always nice. That's been a great feeling to have. I wouldn't say that has any factor. Of course the results haven't been what I've wanted. It's just where I'm at in my life."

Thompson did leave the door open to compete at select events in the future.

"I'm taking it day by day right now," she said.

"I'm not going to say yes or no on how many events I'll play — or if I do. I'm just going to take it day by day and see how I feel, especially going into next year. But I'm very content with this being my last full-time schedule year."

The number one goal still remaining for Thompson this year is to qualify for the United States Solheim Cup team in September.

"[It is a] huge honour just to represent my country and play alongside the team there and my captain," she said.

World number one Nelly Korda commented on Thompson's impact on the LPGA Tour.

"She's had such an amazing career," Korda said.

"I've gotten to be on the team with her a couple times representing our country. I think she does an amazing job for the tour. She really dedicated her time to growing the game.

"It's sad to see that she's obviously leaving and not going to be out here with us anymore, but she's had an amazing career, and I wish her the best in this new chapter of her life."

LPGA commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan also spoke to Thompson's impact on and off the course.

"She embodies the spirit and dedication of our founders — always showing up and engaging intentionally to help further the growth and impact of the LPGA," Marcoux Samaan said.

"She is beloved by fans, consistently seen signing autographs and interacting with them no matter the result that day.

"This dedication was exemplified last year when she was honoured with our Founders Award, given to an LPGA member who best exemplifies the spirit, ideals, and values of the LPGA through her behaviour and deeds, as voted on by her peers.

"Lexi's remarkable career and the way she has conducted herself both on and off the course have inspired countless girls around the world to pursue their goals with passion and perseverance."

Lexi Thompson Announces Retirement From LPGA Tour

Making moves: hinako shibuno on the rise.

lpga tour golf clubs

Written By:

Sarah Kellam

It all started with the U.S. Women’s Open.

The year was 2007, and a 12-year-old, baby-faced Alexis Thompson arrived at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club to compete in her first major championship. She was a pre-teen sensation clad in a pink Titleist visor and a pair of ladybug earrings who was ready to try and make the cut in one of the most prestigious events in women’s golf.

lpga tour golf clubs

And while she didn’t play the weekend that year in North Carolina, little did the golf world know just who that kid would become one day.

Now, seventeen years after that life-changing moment and still wearing those ladybug earrings, Lexi is an 11-time LPGA Tour winner, a major champion, a two-time Olympian, a six-time U.S. Solheim Cup team member and one of the most recognizable faces in golf.

And she announced on Tuesday morning that this will be her last year competing on the LPGA Tour, as she plans to retire from professional golf at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

lpga tour golf clubs

In a lot of ways, Lexi is one of one. Fans have had a front-row seat to her every triumph, heartbreak, struggle and success since she burst onto the golf scene all those years ago. She was one of golf’s original teenage superstars, a wunderkind that adults and kids alike gravitated towards as Thompson was someone they wanted to root for, someone they identified with.

She has carried the mantle of women’s golf forward, never considering it a burden but rather a privilege to do so. It’s the littlest of things that Lexi has done that make the most lasting of impacts – signing every hat, glove, flag and ball handed to her over the last nearly two decades and always entertaining the requests of every person at autograph alley no matter how good or bad she plays. Funny enough, she still signs as Alexis Thompson, not Lexi, an autograph that she’s stuck with since that first U.S. Women’s Open all those years ago.

Her love and respect for her fans was something that Lexi’s mother instilled in her from a very young age, often telling her that it was almost her duty to make at least one person’s day better every time she left the house. And that has driven Thompson throughout her entire career, particularly as she’s pushed boundaries in the golf space. Lexi is well aware of the platform that her LPGA Tour success has afforded her and leverages every opportunity she has to serve as a role model for those around her.

lpga tour golf clubs

One of the best examples of that willingness to set an example came last October when Thompson became the seventh woman ever to tee it up on the PGA Tour. She nearly made the cut that week at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, Nev., an accomplishment that would have rivaled her major victory. But that wasn’t Thompson’s ultimate goal when she decided to play alongside the men on the PGA Tour.

“It's been something I grew up doing with my brothers and have wanted to do, but to also send a message out to the Shriners kids that no dream is too small, and they can go after what they want and follow their dreams,” said Thompson in her pre-tournament press conference at the Shriners Children’s Open. “If I can leave here inspiring others, and especially the kids, the Shriners kids, that's what it's all about and what this tournament is. There is more than just playing golf.

Thompson also has the unique distinction of only being known by one name, as very few players in women’s golf are recognized by a singular moniker. Annika and Lorena come to mind. So does The Babe.

But Lexi is one of an incredibly small list of athletes to earn that honor in the modern era, joined maybe only by Nelly Korda in the last 20 years.

Hers is a name that crops up pretty much every time you ask a fan or kid at an LPGA Tour event, “Who’s your favorite player?” or “Who are you here to watch?” And no matter how she’s playing or how much her career has progressed, Lexi still moves the needle in ways that most athletes dream of doing throughout a career.

lpga tour golf clubs

But for the 29-year-old, it’s become more than second nature.

People are, of course, impressed by the golf. Lexi pounds the golf ball, throwing her entire body into every shot she hits every time she swings, an aggressive movement that still exudes grace and agility and produces some well-struck golf shots. It’s particularly fun to watch her mash her driver, but Thompson has a finesse around the greens as well that helps her short-game creativity shine, allowing her to take advantage of birdie opportunities and convert must-make pars when absolutely necessary.

But that’s not the only thing that draws people to her. LPGA Tour Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan can easily sum up Lexi’s star power and what makes her so likable, both on and off the golf course.

lpga tour golf clubs

“Lexi's impact extends far beyond the golf course. She embodies the spirit and dedication of our Founders — always showing up and engaging intentionally to help further the growth and impact of the LPGA,” said Marcoux Samaan. “She is beloved by fans, consistently seen signing autographs and interacting with them no matter the result that day. Lexi’s commitment to our partners has also been unparalleled. Throughout her career, she has continually made time to engage with partners, their employees and their clients, and truly has valued their tremendous support of women’s golf.

“This dedication was exemplified last year when she was honored with our Founders Award, given to an LPGA Member who best exemplifies the spirit, ideals, and values of the LPGA through her behavior and deeds, as voted on by her peers. Lexi's remarkable career and the way she has conducted herself both on and off the course have inspired countless girls around the world to pursue their goals with passion and perseverance.”

lpga tour golf clubs

That tenacity has been critical to Lexi’s longevity throughout the years. This week marks her 18th time competing in the U.S. Women’s Open, a fitting number for Lexi’s final start in this major championship. She’s come close to winning this coveted title on more than a few occasions and will be working towards that goal again in Lancaster, Pa., but this time, there’s more to reflect upon.

As she traipses the fairways of Lancaster Country Club, memories from those 17 other U.S. Women’s Open will of course be flooding her brain, coming in waves so strong as she remembers her very first one in 2007, the one that started it all. Thoughts of her last 13 years on the LPGA Tour will certainly crop up as well, causing a wry smile or a singular tear depending on the memory sparked.

lpga tour golf clubs

But this isn’t the end. Not yet anyway. And while the moment will be bittersweet as Thompson bids farewell to the tournament that quite literally jumpstarted her career, there’s so much more still to come for Lexi the rest of this season.

And lucky for us, there’s still plenty of time to watch Thompson compete. The end of the year is still six months away. So much could happen between then and now.

Lexi just might once again wow us all.
