MSC VIRTUOSA

MSC Virtuosa's namesake comes from the word virtuoso, meaning "someone highly skilled in any field of activity", and so MSC Virtuosa was named to pay homage to the skill and expertise of the MSC Cruises architects and shipyard partners at Chantiers de l'Atlantique who designed and built this innovative class of ships.

MSC Virtuosa, along with her sister ships MSC Meraviglia, MSC Bellissima, MSC Grandiosa and MSC Euribia, belongs to the “Meraviglia Class”, where the impressive array of onboard experiences come together in perfect harmony with the space and the destinations, to deliver the ultimate cruise holiday experience.

The powerplant is based on 4x Wartisla marine diesel engines (models 2x 12V46DF plus 2x 16V46DF) with combined output 64 MW (85830 hp). The propulsion is based on 2x Azipod thrusters with combined output 40 MW (53640). The registered shipowner is VISTA 4 COMPANIA NAVIERA SA, while the registered manager is MSC CROCIERE SPA.

On February 1, 2016, MSC announced a shipbuilding order for two Meraviglia Plus-class units. The newbuilds are with max capacity 6300 passengers, 200 additional cabins and longer (16 m / 50 ft) compared to Meraviglia-Class. Meraviglia-Plus vessels were delivered in October 2019 ( Grandiosa ) and April 2020 (Virtuosa).

Bookings on MSC Virtuosa cruises were opened on November 21, 2018 (for MSC Voyagers Club/loyalty program members) and on December 3 (for general customers). Sales for the inaugural cruise (November 8, 2020, from Genoa ) were opened on October 7, 2018. The promo offer was for MSC Voyagers Club members only (exclusive access through October 21 midnight), who also received a special discount (5%) in addition to their regular 5% loyalty discount. All potential customers also receive 5% Early Booking Discount (through June 3, 2019).

The vessel's construction started with the keel-laying (coin) ceremony held on February 27, 2019, at St Nazaire 's Chantiers de l’Atlantique Shipyard. The ship was rescheduled for delivery in November 2020. On the same day (Feb 27), to MSC was delivered Bellissima . During the traditional keel-laying, two shipyard employees placed 2 special-edition coins (under the hull’s first keel block) for good luck. The ceremony's godmothers were Helen Huang (MSC Cruises China's President) and Elise Guerin (shipyard's Project Manager).

The vessel was launched (floated out from drydock) on December 1, 2019, following the delivery of MSC Grandiosa  (October 31) and the steel-cutting of  MSC World Europa (also on Oct 31). Chantiers de l'Atlantique officially delivered Virtuosa to MSC on February 1, 2021. The ceremony was attended by Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC's Executive Chairman) and his family (the wife Alexa Aponte-Vago and the children) and Laurent Castaing (shipbuilder's General Manager).

In mid-July 2021, MSC announced that Virtuosa's christening ceremony will be held at Port Rashid (Dubai UAE) . The ship's naming ceremony was held on November 27, 2021, as part of the UAE Golden Jubilee (UAE's 50th anniversary) featuring celebrations planned for the period April 6, 2021, through March 31, 2022. The ship's naming ceremony was attended by MSC's traditional godmother Sophia Loren (1934-born Italian actress) who christened 17 (out of MSC fleet's 19 ships) - each newbuild since 2003. VIP guests at the event were Pierfrancesco Vago (MSC), Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem (DP World's President and CEO), His Excellency Helal Saeed Al Marri (DTCM's Director-General/Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing), His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Saeed Rashid Al Maktoum (UAE's Vice President and Prime Minister).

Meraviglia Plus-Class ship technology

New features on Meraviglia-Plus ships include the first at sea fine-art museum (with original artworks), longer (111 m / 36 ft) indoor promenade (Galleria) and larger LED screen (95x6 m / 280x20 ft) for the pool deck's outdoor theater. The extra space in the Galleria allows two additional restaurants. MSC signed an exclusive partnership with Samsung (providing the digital technology) and Cirque du Soleil (providing live shipboard programming).

Meraviglia Plus-class ships are also the fleet's most technologically advanced, implementing the latest marine engine technologies. Their machinery includes hybrid scrubbers (exhaust gas cleaning systems), SCR (selective catalytic reduction system converting NOx into diatomic nitrogen), most efficient waste plant, latest wastewater treatment system, superior recycling capabilities, emission-reducing, and fuel-efficient heat recovery system.

On February 1, 2019, MSC officially revealed the in-cabin digital assistant ZOE. The technology ("cruise industry first") was developed by Harman International (USA-based company, a fully-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics). Harman International has developed digital audio solutions for major corporations (Including Google, Microsoft, Amazon).

ZOE is an artificial intelligence device (voice-enabled, with advanced voice recognition software) available in all passenger staterooms. ZOE speaks 7 languages, answer cruise-related questions, provides info on shipboard services-activities-facilities, makes reservations and bookings.

The digital device features far-field microphones, top-quality speaker, quad-core processor (for fast response times), direct phone connections (through Bluetooth). The system can also upgrade its own database to answer previously unanswerable questions.

Passenger data (including itinerary/tour and shipboard preferences) is stored in the Cloud Storage system and used on the next scheduled voyage.

The device (sized ~15 cm) can be activated whenever passengers choose. A waiver must be signed to agree for their personal data to be stored.

Starting with Bellissima (2019), ZOE is now available on all newbuild MSC liners and introduced fleetwide over 2019-2024.

Just Disembarked MSC Virtuosa...Not A Good Experience!

By desire882x , September 11, 2021 in MSC Cruises

Junior Member

I've just got back from a 7 night cruise on MSC Virtuosa and wanted to share my experience. I've been on 4 cruises (a mixture of Royal Caribbean (Symphony of the seas etc. and Virgin Voyages) and I'm in my 30's.  I want to share my experience as I noticed there are very few reviews of this ship.  I've written some quick bullet points of my overall experience, I'll write a few review and post it on the review section of this website.

I was on the 4th Sept - 11th Sept Cruise around the UK (Portland / Liverpool / Greenock / Southampton). I will be comparing my experience with Virgin Voyages as I was on Scarlet Lady a few weeks ago.

Initial Embarkation Procedure

I arrived at Southampton at my allocated time, I was met with long queues all the way around the building with limited social distancing and hardly any people wearing masks. After around an 1hr 15 mins my temperature was taken and I was let inside the terminal. After another 30 minutes we were asked to show our cruise ticket...we then queued again and another desk asked to show our proof of vaccine. We then joined another queue to have our tests, after this we were then told to go to the security check. At this point we were asked to show our passports, we were then were advised to go upstairs and queue at another desk and were asked to show all our documents (Insurance / Proof of Vaccine / Passport / Boarding Pass etc.) At this point we were given a 'Watch' which we were told was for contact tracing. We then waited for our results and finally could board. Total time was just under 3 hours.

I felt the process was quite complex compared to Virgin in terms of showing different documentation at each desk. With Virgin I found the process much more simpler.

1) Stage 1 Show Tickets / Proof of Vaccine and Passports

2) Stage 2 take Covid Test

3) Stage 3 - Get Results

4) Stage 4 - Show Boarding Pass and get on board.

Room was a good size and house keeping did a good job tidying up

The Main Dinning Room is impressive and the service is great here

Food was very average in the buffet but did the job...

Shows were pretty okay

F1 Simulator was good

Serious Lack of Staff in all areas

Staff are really worn out and unhappy (Spoke to 5 members of staff who openly told me they can't wait to get off the ship)

Ship is running a 'skeleton service' buffet restaurant was only ever 50% open at lunch time, there are only two places to go for breakfast with the one restaurant

closing at 9:30am!

Massive Massive Massive Queues for Breakfast (on some days) often wait times of 40 minutes+ to get it

Really BAD Processes in place...e.g some stuff you can only book in person such as tickets for shows / restaurants and F1 Simulator / Golf ETC, some stuff you book on your TV/ Phone app ..so it can be confusing having pieces of paper with Spa Bookings and Restaurant Reservations as a lot of stuff does not sync with the App!

A lot of processes don't make sense for example to make reservations for the restaurants you have to go to the Bar?

We had numerous issues such as the sensor / lock on our door not working, we queued a total of 8 hours over 2/3 days just to resolve this simple issue.

House keeping staff unfriendly for example we needed more toilet paper was told we had to request this via guest services as apparently house keeping staff are not allowed to give toilet paper to guests directly....

Lots and lots of noise at night...we were in a balcony cabin on the 13th floor and every night there were lots of banging which we believe was from the staff as it happened every night at 11:45pm - 3:30am. I am guessing this was the staff performing some sort of maintenance?

Lack of Drinks on board - Despite having the drinks package, a lot of drinks were unavailable for example there were no fruit juices. After 24 hours on board some restaurants had ran out of Coca Cola Cans and resorted to providing a 'water downed version' of diet coke to guests.

Food not labelled on board in terms of allergens or diet (Vegan etc.) Staff unsure of what was in food.

A lot of machines in the Arcade are not working and the guy who runs this is the most rude unfriendly person you could meet in your life! I lost around 16 credits on broken machines and was told by the guy 'not my problem speak to guest services'.

Way too many people on board I felt like the ship was 85% capacity I was told it was around 60%+ I felt the slot machines were set to a real 'low win rate' could just be my experience but I didn't win anything...

There were confirmed covid cases on board, a lot of people were not wearing masks and no one was enforcing this. After covid began spreading on board more announcements were played on the ships speaker to social distance etc.

Music Lounge / Piano Player - opposite guest services so its very hard to even speak to guest services when you have music blaring in the background!!

Queues to get drinks....why not have soft drinks such as water etc in a vending machine to allow guests to get drinks themselves ?

Confusing Processes- Guests are allowed to get cold drinks in the buffet but are not allowed to get hot drinks...?

Arcade - Very very old games stuff that you would expect to find a carboot sale!

Confusing Advice - Guest Services saying don't use your watch for any payments its only for contact tracing and all restaurants asking to you to show your watch to order drinks....

Strange Disembarkation Process - Guests are removed from their rooms at 8am, and again ques to disembark.

A very very different experience compared to my cruise with Virgin Voyages in Covid Times...

I had multiple issues on board mainly not being able to get into my room, which resulted in my card being reprogrammed which resulted in my fun pass not working, the wifi not working and generally not being able to use my card with anything.

I spent in total 14 hours of my holiday at guest services...when I asked to speak to a supervisor I was told I would have to wait in my room most of the day for them to ring. Apparently the supervisors don't see anyone face to face!

When I did speak to a supervisor they just said 'sorry we can't do anything complain to MSC when you get back on land' they would not give any compensation, no restaurant vouchers, no spa vouchers, nothing.

Overall this is a cruise I would not recommend you go on...even when more staff are made available the processes on board are just confusing and don't make sense! For a brand new ship the processes are outdated....

P.S - I can confirm the stories posted online regarding this cruise are true with the high number of covid cases being present on board. MSC should of really not allowed more passengers to board at Liverpool and Greenock the ship needs a full decontamination. This morning I saw another several hundred guests queuing to get on board....

I wonder how comparable the ships and cruise lines are.

Since Virgin Voyages is a brand new cruise line, can you please provide a comparison of the ships:

  • the number of passengers at full capacity and the number on board,
  • the number of crew at full capacity and the number on board,
  • the fare, and
  • the perks included in the fares you paid.

Then we can see if you are comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges.  Plus we can learn more about Virgin Voyages.

With Virgin I found the process much more simpler.   1) Stage 1 Show Tickets / Proof of Vaccine and Passports 2) Stage 2 take Covid Test 3) Stage 3 - Get Results 4) Stage 4 - Show Boarding Pass and get on board.   Positives Room was a good size and house keeping did a good job tidying up   The Main Dinning Room is impressive and the service is great here   Food was very average in the buffet but did the job...   Shows were pretty okay   F1 Simulator was good   Negatives   Serious Lack of Staff in all areas   Staff are really worn out and unhappy (Spoke to 5 members of staff who openly told me they can't wait to get off the ship)   Ship is running a 'skeleton service' buffet restaurant was only ever 50% open at lunch time, there are only two places to go for breakfast with the one restaurant closing at 9:30am!   Massive Massive Massive Queues for Breakfast (on some days) often wait times of 40 minutes+ to get it   Really BAD Processes in place...e.g some stuff you can only book in person such as tickets for shows / restaurants and F1 Simulator / Golf ETC, some stuff you book on your TV/ Phone app ..so it can be confusing having pieces of paper with Spa Bookings and Restaurant Reservations as a lot of stuff does not sync with the App! Conclusion   A very very different experience compared to my cruise with Virgin Voyages in Covid Times... Well after 64 cruises this was the worst ever. We were on the ship and lunch by 12 30.  Staff and room steward perfect. No noise. But I was on deck 10.   Lines were long as you said. I went to reception  .got nowhere. I stood and demanded the manager and was given access to the dining rooms for breakfast and lunch by using his name. Not good. But needs must.    Got drinks ok but seating was shocking. No nibbles with drinks. Shows poor.  Whole experienced was poor.  Very poor. Nothing will get me back on

This is nothing to do with compassion. but service or lack of. You can compare it to others ships or truck stops lol. This is the experience and service just on this ship

Haha

Yikes. Hopefully this will not be the norm

I don't know much about Virgin Voyages, but I think it intends to compete in the luxury bracket of the cruise market.  That's not where MSC is other than for YC.

I had the same impression but I've done no research on Virgin Voyages.  If that is true I expect Virgin Voyages to be heads above MSC overall with much smaller ships and correspondingly higher prices.  I'm hoping the OP will let us know.

Think you were on a different ship from me . I'm also just off today . Had no problems getting drinks . Didn't have to queue either . Can count on one hand how many guests I saw without a mask on. I did have to tell s few quests the lifts rules and hot tub rules but apart from that it was all good . Guys and the amusement most friendly guys you could meet . Can really compare to virgin . Adult only ship and pretty much to covid rules on board regarding masks etc

Yikes…your’s isn’t the first bad experience on that itinerary I’ve read about on here. Sounds like MSC needs to rein this one in and reevaluate.

If I were reading reviews like this about the US itineraries I think I would cancel our upcoming November cruise.

Thanks for taking the time to write.

We spent 7 days on this ship, covering half of the Southampton cruise i.e. 1st to 8th September from Greenock. Our experience sits midway between the two extremes outlined i.e. OP and yours.

Comparison?

MSC Virtuosa  - 6,300 passengers I would estimate 5,000 guests) the number of crew at full capacity and the number on board, (unable to comment) the fare, ( Virgin Voyages £1300 for 2 guests for 4 nights - MSC £1500 for 2 guets for 7 nights) the perks included in the fares you paid. (Virgin Voyages - Free on Demand Movies, Free Wi-fi, free premium restaurants, free soft drinks. MSC - Free massage with Aurea Fare and Free Premium Drinks)   Then we can see if you are comparing apples to apples or apples to oranges.  Plus we can learn more about Virgin Voyages.   Thanks.

Very Strange the guy in the Arcade who was Turkish was very rude and unfriendly. Which Bars did you visit? I found every bar busy including the one in the Arcade....

On Virgin we were not forced to wear our masks and generally felt very safe on board due to the lower number of guests. On MSC we felt really unsafe felt like they tried to pack the ship as much as possible.

I'd never go on MSC again...

Here’s an interesting read dated Sept 7th about the Virtuosa. Especially interesting are the passenger comments at the bottom pretty much agreeing with the OP

https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2021/09/articles/disease/covid-19-aboard-msc-virtuosa/

edit to add link

There must be COVID on every cruise ship operating from the UK.   Currently about 1 in 75 people have COVID in UK (source: ONS ), and it is impossible to totally keep it off ships (the only way would be to individually quarantine each passenger for 14 days beforehand).

My opinion - the breakdown for Virtuosa seems to be the removal of all covid restrictions on land in the UK means people are less likely to follow them onboard, coupled with people refusing to be tested when they get symptoms (to avoid ruining their holiday - even the gentleman that unfortunately died refused to be tested onboard).   At least now MSC has changed their policy and it is no longer optional for vaccinated passengers to be tested mid-cruise (in addition to everyone being tested on embarkation).

I don’t know any that are nowadays, however the passenger comments are consistent. That’s why I read a lot of different articles and understand that the truth is probably someplace in the middle.

Having said that I’ve read way too many negatives about this particular itinerary/ship and not a whole lot of praise so that “middle truth” is leaning towards the negative at this point.

That doesn’t mean MSC can’t fix it.

Thanks for your the information in your response.

It got me to look up Virgin Voyages.  Here's what I found on Wikipedia ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_Lady ).  The CEO of Virgin Voyages, Tom MCAlpin, explained that this move (adults 18 and over only) was made to appeal largely to travel professionals within the more premium market looking for an "elevated" experience.

Personally, I can definitely see the appeal of a cruise on an adults only, much smaller ship.  I also think the almost single pricing policy is appealing for those (like me) that find that MSC's various experiences and add ons make my head spin enough so that on our only MSC cruise to date (right before Covid) we booked the Yacht Club (which I would do again).

Scarlet Lady (and all the other ships being built) particulars:

Capacity: 2,770

Crew: 1,160

Cabins:  1,408 passenger cabins and 813 crew cabins

I, too, returned from Virtuosa yesterday.   Without writing a dissertation, I had a lovely time.   Stand out points were the Hola! tapas restaurant.   Wonderful lunch and friendly, attentive waiters.   Couldn't fault it.   The ship herself - beautiful.

The strawberry slush that is the non-alcoholic element of the cocktails

The daily light show in the shopping arcade

Contactless lifts

Having to shout to be heard in guest services over the music behind

The minority of entitled passengers who don't believe rules apply to them for any reason (I'm not talking about medical exemptions).   A lot of people are delighted to see cruising return, but we have to take some personal responsibility to help it.

I certainly didn't have to queue at bars / restaurants - and if I had encountered it, would have walked away and come back later.   Nor did I get into a crowded lift - again, as above, wait for quieter one.

I wouldn't want to experience Virtuosa - or any other newer behemoth - at full capacity, but was delighted to have had the chance to sail on her before she goes on to the life that she was built for.

Sorry just seen this . The sports bar was empty any time we went to if.  We spent time in the starship bar could always get a seat and tables were good distance from each other also went to the champagne bar and masters of the sea for lunch on the Friday . Non of them busy and easy to socail distance

I'm following Virtuosa's trip right now (I have friends on board who usually cruise with more companies) and things are much better, at least since Lisbon and until yesterday. My friends told me there are no lines, just the regular ones, there are themed nights (not big parties because of Covid, but controlled). There are many more employees and plenty of room for everyone. Everyone wears the mask and it was tested during boarding. I was really worried when I read the dozens of bad reviews, but now I can see that all the complaints are from staycasion cruises, so the context is now quite different.

I blame all the rude passengers on MSC.  They didn't give anyone a psychological profile prior to booking.

The OP said they got off the ship Sept 11.  Was this the cruise people got sick on?   Maybe MSC has already cracked down on the Virtuosa.

MSC VIRTUOSA

MASTERPIECE AT SEA

MSC Virtuosa’s namesake comes from the word virtuoso, meaning someone highly skilled in any field of activity, and so MSC Virtuosa was named to pay homage to the skill and expertise of the MSC Cruises architects and shipyard partners at Les Chantiers de l’Atlantique who designed and built this innovative class of ships. This new cruise ship is one of the two largest in MSC Cruises’ fleet, along with her sister ship MSC Grandiosa, boasting an impressive array of guest features all coming together in perfect harmony to deliver the ultimate cruise holiday experience.

6 Top Transatlantic Cruises for 2024

T ransatlantic cruises are unique when you compare them to traditional cruises most people book for family trips and romantic getaways. These voyages tend to be longer in general, and they have more built-in days at sea and offer a lot more time on board as a result. Repositioning cruises that include a transatlantic crossing tend to attract more retirees and travelers who just want to relax and enjoy their ships' amenities, especially since fewer days in port means fewer excursions and more time doing nothing at all.

That said, the fact that transatlantic cruises can last as few as seven nights means they may fit in your plans more easily than you may think. There are also some benefits to transatlantic crossings that may not be obvious, including lower nightly rates, more onboard credit, and more time to kick back and relax at a floating luxury resort in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you're curious which transatlantic cruises are best for 2024, here are six top picks with different cruise lengths, itineraries and unique destinations to explore.

Explore cruises on GoToSea , a service of U.S. News.

Cunard Line

Date: Departs May 5, 2024

Departure port: Brooklyn, New York

Starting price: $2,449 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 7 to 18 nights

In May of 2024, Cunard's Queen Mary 2 vessel will offer three different transatlantic crossings of various lengths. Choose from a seven-night sailing from Brooklyn, New York , to Southampton, England; a nine-night sailing to Hamburg, Germany ; and an 18-night round-trip sailing that departs from Brooklyn and crosses the Atlantic twice on the way back to its starting point. This unique combination of itineraries lets you cross the sea and tailor your trip to how long you want to be away from home.

The 18-night itinerary is especially interesting, since it lets you depart from the United States and arrive back in Brooklyn in the end with stops in both England and Germany, as well as plenty of sea days in between. Luxury cruise line Cunard is known for its elegant design, lush amenities and upscale feel, and the Queen Mary 2 is one of the line's most luxurious ships. Highlights on this exclusive vessel include the Royal Court Theatre, a casino, gala evenings, an onboard spa and a vast library. The Queen Mary 2 holds up to 2,691 guests with 1,173 crew to cater to your every need.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Date: Departs March 24, 2024

Departure port: Miami

Starting price: $5,949 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 21 nights

Seabourn is offering a 21-night transatlantic cruise from Miami on Seabourn Quest in March 2024 that offers a diverse range of ports of call before ending its voyage in Las Palmas in Spain's Canary Islands . Departure from Miami is followed by nine days at sea. Then, you'll enjoy multiple stops in the Canary Islands – including Santa Cruz de La Palma and San Sebastián de La Gomera – as well as stops in Praia and Mindelo the Cape Verde archipelago.

This journey with Seabourn makes it possible for travelers to see some of the most beautiful and remote tropical islands in the world. The Canary Islands are known for their white sand beaches , volcanoes and lush greenery; similar landscapes can also be found in Cape Verde's coastal towns and villages. Seabourn Quest, a smaller ocean vessel, accommodates just 229 guests.

MSC Cruises

Date: Departs Nov. 8, 2024

Departure port: Southampton, England

Starting price: $769 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 16 nights

The MSC Virtuosa from MSC Cruises is repositioning from Europe to the Caribbean in November 2024, which gives travelers the chance to enjoy a lengthy transatlantic crossing with plenty of unique ports. This sailing departs from England with eight sea days plus stops in France, the Azores of Portugal, St. Maarten , Antigua and Barbuda, and Martinique . The ship ends its journey in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

The MSC Virtuosa is a larger cruise vessel that boasts an impressive grand promenade with a LED dome ceiling, dedicated clubs for children and teens, an onboard spa, a lavish casino and the luxurious MSC Yacht Club section of the ship. This vessel holds a maximum of 6,334 passengers at once.

Princess Cruises

Date: Departs July 5, 2024

Departure port: New York City (Manhattan or Brooklyn)

Starting price: $4,098 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 31 nights

Princess Cruises also offers its share of transatlantic sailings on various vessels. Its 31-night crossing from New York to Barcelona, Spain , on Island Princess in July 2024 is jam-packed with exciting destinations to explore. This lengthy transatlantic voyage has only 13 sea days with planned stops in Canada's Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, England, Spain, Portugal and Morocco before the journey ends in Barcelona.

This intriguing sailing experience with Princess takes passengers to eight different countries in the span of a month. Island Princess is a nice ship for a long sailing because of its smaller size, with just 2,200 passengers and 900 crew. But the ship is also large enough to have a huge selection of included and specialty dining options, a Vegas-style casino, a sports court, a large central atrium for gathering, and several pools and hot tubs to enjoy.

Celebrity Cruises

Date: Departs April 11, 2024

Departure port: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Starting price: $760 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 12 nights

Celebrity Cruises is offering a 12-night sailing on Celebrity Equinox in April 2024 that starts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida , and ends in Lisbon, Portugal – making it possible for travelers to enjoy eight relaxing days at sea. What's interesting about this sailing is its stops along the way, which include the Royal Naval Dockyard in Bermuda; Porta Delgada in Portugal's Azores archipelago; and Porto in mainland Portugal.

The Celebrity Equinox accommodates a maximum of just 2,852 passengers at once, so this Celebrity vessel is a solid choice for travelers who want just the right size ship instead of a smaller vessel or a megaship. There are also plenty of onboard features to keep you happy and entertained as you float across the Atlantic Ocean, including The Casino, The Lawn Club with outdoor games like bocce ball and croquet, The Martini Bar, the adults-only Solarium and more.

Royal Caribbean International

Dates: Departs Oct. 24, 2024

Departure port: Barcelona, Spain

Starting price: $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees)

Cruise length: 14 nights

Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas is hosting a transatlantic voyage in October 2024 that departs from Barcelona, Spain, and ends in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This vessel will make stops in Palma de Mallorca, Valencia, Cartagena and Málaga in Spain, then spend eight days at sea. After that, enjoy a day in Nassau in the Bahamas before the cruise drops passengers off in sunny Florida.

Interior staterooms on this Royal Caribbean sailing start at just $876 per person (plus port taxes and fees), which works out to around $60 per night, per person. The Oasis of the Seas megaship can hold a total of 6,771 guests and 2,109 crew, so it's an enormous vessel – to put it mildly. This size may not be ideal for travelers who want a more intimate cruising experience, but it's perfect for cruisers who want plenty of space to spread out and endless activities to take part in. Oasis of the Seas boasts 20 different restaurants and cafes, 11 bars and lounges, a variety of pools and whirlpools, a rock climbing wall, the AquaTheater diving and entertainment venue, mini-golf, a casino and plenty more.

MSC Cruises Drink & Bar Menus With PriceS – UPDATED

Last Updated on April 2, 2024

We spent a lot of time on a recent voyage with MSC Cruises trying to decipher the MSC drink menus and drink packages. We are posting the entire range of MSC drink menus to accompany the information recently published comparing the drink packages. These menus will also help people with the MSC Easy drink package better understand what’s included!

MSC Cruises Gratuities on Bar / Drink Purchases

Onboard bar purchases will incur gratuities, automatically added to all purchases : 15% gratuities on European, Emirates, South Caribbean, Red Sea, South America (Brazil and Argentina), and Far East itineraries, and 18% gratuities on North America itineraries. If you purchase a drink or beverage package, the price of the package includes the gratuities and you will not pay anything additional!

The pub features quite a few beer options but pay attention to the prices if you are planning on using a drink package. Additionally, there are paid items to eat at certain times.

For people who have chosen the Easy Package or get it free with their cruise fare, there is a separate menu:

A word about the drinks on MSC Cruises

If you plan on enjoying your cruise without purchasing a drink package, you’ll see by the above menus that the prices of drinks really aren’t terrible compared to other cruise lines. However, a drink package is now more commonly included as a perk or incentive when booking a cruise with MSC . Even if there is a slight upcharge for an included Easy Package for you’re next cruise, you’ll likely find that it’s well worth it given that it includes bottled water, sodas and specialty coffee which is uncommon with most cruise lines.

Hi Phil, yesterday I sent a small message about the MSC transfer between Milan Malpensa Airport and Genoa Port. A small modification: we should get from Milan to Genoa in the morning of June 22, not June 21, so I would like the information (timetable, etc.) by the 22 of June.Sorry for the modification. Thanks in advance for your reply: Agnes

Hi Agnes – I’m unfortunately not famliar with how MSC Handles busses or shuttles from the Milan airport 🙁 – but I do know the transport is usually only on the morning of the cruise for when they DO offer shuttles. If you’re arriving early, you’ll be on your own to get to Genoa and it’s a few hours by train. The trains are generally pretty reliable an on time, but give yourself plenty of room to work with. You can use Rome2Rio (link) and plan a route or hire a private car (expect to spend 200 euro to get there though!). Here’s a link to private services on Viator

Hi! We have a cabin (Seaside from Genoa – 7 nights) for 4 people: 2 adults, 2 children, we have Easy Package for all four people. By definition, children do not drink alcoholic beverages, but my question is, is ice cream(for the children) included in Easy Packae? Thanks in advance: Agnes

Hi Agnes, I think if you call MSC, they will downgrade the kids to a soft drink package and save you money. As for icecream, it was available at the outside cafe at no charge but it will not cover the specialty ice cream / Gelato at Philippe Maury & Venchi Chocolate

Does the prices in the drinks menu include the gratuity? Or we have to add the 18% to know the total price?

Lizette, If you don’t have a drink package, and you are purchasing the drinks one by one, then you’ll pay the gratuity on top of the price you’re seeing. I believe the gratuity has just increased to 18% from 15%

We are two people traveling on MSC Meraviglia. Looking at these prices (some of them equal to or better than any hotel or Pub), I don’t think we are going to spend $560 (2 non-alcoholic packages) on water, coffee, and sodas in our 10-day cruise.

I agree- The prices really aren’t bad compared to other cruise lines! The packages make the most sense when they’re included as a promotion in the base fare at a discounted rate. I have friends that recently did a 2 week cruise with MSC and the drink packages were as much as the cruise. They declined and ended up spending a fraction of what the drink package would have been. Definitely worth doing the math!

how can i find out what brands of scotch are included in the easy plus package

Hi Bill & Susan, You can see the main menu above (first menu) and page 7 has “whisky” …. which they’ve sort of put all scotch and whisky together.

Remember it’s anything up to $10 per drink, so there are quite a few basic options available.

It’s explained on another page here that the Easy Package includes drinks up to $7.50, but I don’t see these drinks listed in the menu provided above, only the $9 ones. Did I miss something? Or is it $7.50 plus a 20% gratuity so it is $9.00 as listed on the menu which also includes the tip.

Hi Cory – If you look at the menu at the top of this page – and flip to the first page of the menu, it has the drinks up to 7.50 which are included in the “easy” package. MSC Generally has a menu for drinks that are part of the “Easy Package” and not all have a price associated with them (They’re just included). The $7.50 amount has been established since they now allow you to get a drink that is more than the $7.50 limit by paying the difference. I hope that makes sense!

Thanks! Don’t know how I missed that. I did the calculation and for our group of mostly light or non-drinkers, the packages don’t make financial sense when everybody has to get the same package, especially when we are going to be in port during most days and will get paid drinks there.

Sure! If you’re light drinkers, MSC Often has a promo for Easy or Easy plus as part of a cruise fare. I find that is the best way to go when it’s available since it covers everything from premium coffee & bottled water, etc. Not sure if you saw our MSC Drink Calculator (here) . This might help as well!

I noticed one can order bottles of wine pre cruise to be delivered to your stateroom. The prices for which seemed reasonable at @$32. My question is can you get a bottle at a bar on board and take it to your room or would there be a corkage fee?

Hi Kim! If you get the bottles onboard where they are available, you’ll pay a gratuity but not a true “corkage” fee by just taking them back to your room. So Expect to pay whatever their automatic gratuity / service charge is – but nothing else.

Hi. Are these prices in australian dollars?

Hello! The prices are in US dollars unless otherwise noted (sometimes we post prices in Euro, but it’s clearly stated).

Your not in Alice Springs anymore, mate!

Are these also the same prices if you were to buy the drinks a la carte?

Hi Josh – Yes, this is the ship-wide price list even if you’re paying for the drinks 1 at a time. For package customers, it’s a reference as to what the package will cover more than anything.
