Paul Smith Made a Comfortable Leather Dress Shoe That’s Perfect for Traveling

Featuring a soft leather upper and a padded sole.

Sneakers and slip-ons are our preferred form of footwear when it comes to traveling, but sometimes — especially if you’re traveling on business — you just don’t have the convenience of going casual. For those unfortunate trips when dress shoes are the only option, Paul Smith designed a pair that looks the part but feels like your favorite pair of sneakers.

The key to this was making the shoes both soft and lightweight. For that, Smith constructed the upper from a naturally soft vegetable-tanned leather that was kept unlined to reduce weight. They’re then tumbled and washed to give them a worn-in feel fresh from the box. Further, the soft sole features extra padding under the ball of the foot to provide additional comfort when dashing through the airport to make your flight (or to tell that special someone how you feel seconds before they board the plane ).

The shoes are available with broguing or without, and come in a few different finishes including tan, black and even dark green. You can order them right now directly from Paul Smith’s website.

Our shipping partner, DHL, also offers you the flexibility to make changes to your delivery while your purchase is on its way to you. Enter your mobile number at checkout to receive an SMS notification after your order has been dispatched, follow the link provided and choose from a range of options.

USA DHL Delivery : £35 (Free for orders over £500)

Once your order has left us, you will receive an email containing an air waybill number to track its progress online. We may require extra postage before your order can be dispatched if the parcel weighs over 2kg. If there is an additional charge, the cost will be worked out by ourselves and you will be contacted via email.

We offer Tax-Free shopping for our international customers and the tax will be automatically deducted at the checkout.

International customers are required to pay their local customs charges/import duties which are calculated by the courier once the parcel reaches your country. We have no control over these charges and cannot advise what the cost would be, as customs policies and import duties vary widely from country to country . These charges must be paid by the recipient of the parcel before delivery can take place. Pockets cannot undervalue orders when arranging delivery.

Returns & Exchange

The easiest way for customers in the UK to return an item is by arranging a collection with our courier DHL or using your local DHL drop off point, using the returns label included with your order.

We aim to have returns processed within 3-5 working days (please note this does not include weekends) from when the item has been returned to us.

During sale periods these times can be slightly longer than normal due to higher volumes. Once the item has returned to us you will receive a text message from our team acknowledge which will begin the returns process.

Using the DHL eReturns service is FREE for UK customers.

Items must be returned within 14 days of you receiving your order.

Items must be unworn and unaltered, in the condition they were dispatched and complete with all original packaging and tags. All correctly returned items will be credited to the account from which the original purchase was made. We are unable to refund any shipping charges incurred.

Revisiting the Classics: Paul on A Suit to Travel In

It’s often the items we think about the least that we wear the most. Continuing our series on those pieces that belong in every wardrobe, we shine a light on an incredibly useful suit.

Sadly, looking elegant is rarely compatible with travelling long distances. And if you want to look elegant and be comfortable while travelling, then you can more or less forget about it. In the past, people invariably dressed up to travel, which is why old photos of passengers on planes, trains, and automobiles tend to fill us with misty-eyed wonder at how stylish everyone used to be. But were those people comfortable on their journeys? In heavily structured tailoring, felt hats, wool dresses, stiff leather shoes and gabardine raincoats, it’s hard to see how they could be.

In the modern era, it’s safe to say we have, as a society, swung the other way. Comfort is now the prized quality when it comes to travel dressing, which is entirely understandable: no one wants to feel uncomfortable in what they’re wearing, especially in the age of long-haul flights. We’re not here to declare one approach better than the other, but rather to say that you can, in fact, have it all. If you’re unfamiliar with our carefully designed travel suit – which we call, unsurprisingly, A Suit to Travel In – then allow us to catch you up. As Paul is both an inveterate suit wearer and a frequent traveller, it would have been remiss of us not to create a suit which looks sharp while standing up to the rigours of the road. A Suit to Travel In comes in a few different versions, but the one we’ve chosen to focus on here is perhaps the quintessential iteration. Cut in our classic Soho style, with a trim fit and narrow lapels, this suit is constructed from a very special fabric, which boasts crease and water resistant properties so it stays crisp and rumple-free. Essentially, you arrive looking as put together as you did when you left the house, something you might have believed impossible.

It's become Paul’s personal travel uniform, and a crucial part of the wardrobes of men all over the world. You can even wear it if you’re staying put. Paul sums up the suit’s appeal in simple terms: ‘It’s really popular because it makes you look great.’ Hard to argue with that.
