PGM Tour Malaysia

PGM ( Professional Golf of Malaysia Tour Malaysia ) is a series of golf events throughout the calendar year.

Competitive and Anticipated

The PGM Tour Malaysia has been around for more than a decade now and the series of competitions organized has always been among the most anticipated by golfers across the country.

Since its inception, the PGM Tour Malaysia has produced several names that have gone on to greater heights. This includes the likes of Low Kahi Jei, Gavin Kyle Green and Daeng Abdul Rahman Abdul Aziz, to name a few.

Things to know for players in PGM

To be eligible to play and compete in the PGM Tour Malaysia, you should be in one of the following categories:

• A holder of the PGM Tour Card
• Those invited by sponsors or host venues of the events under certain conditions
• Amateur status – This must be under the R&A Rules of Amateur regulations

It must be noted that a player will be terminated from the PGM Tour if:

• The player resigns from the association
• Expelled for any breach of the Code of Conduct or Ethics of the PGM
• Breaches any role or responsibility given by the Board in undertaking or warranty related to the participation in the PGM Tour Malaysia
• Fails in the payment of any fines after the date is due
• Without any showcase through a resolution made during a meeting deny the eligibility of the player by the Board of PGM Tour. The chairman will then provide a letter to inform the player of the expulsion

Information about tournaments

The PGM administers and sanctions PGM Tour Tournaments. This covers all the PGM Tour Order of Merit Tournaments as well.

In every PGM Tour Tournament, the Tournament Director will be responsible to keep the Rules and Regulations set by the Tournament Committee with the PGM Board.

Starting Fields

• Those who won the Order of Merit will be exempted for 3 years from the ensuing year of winning the title.
• Those who won the PGM Tour Tournaments (one or more) will be exempted for 2 years from the ensuing years of winning the tournament.
• Those who won tournaments that are co-sanctioned like ADT and such will be exempted for 2 years from the ensuing years of winning the tournament
• Those who are in the top 50 of the PGM Tour Order of Merit from the year before will be exempted for 1 year.
• There can be a maximum of 3 invitees from sponsors and 2 from host venue sponsors
• Exemptions from the PGM Board

Players will be placed on a ‘Reserve List’ in situations where the PGM Tour Tournament is full before the closing date and should there be any withdrawal, the next available Player in the list will be placed into the tournament.

Format and Tournament Field

Stroke play or match play is the standard and it can be amended by the PGM if necessary. Starting field for each tournament is 144 professionals.

Prize money will be given and a percentage breakdown will be accorded to the players.

Professional golf in Malaysia enters a new era with the Toyota Tour

Malaysian golf received a huge boost with the announcement that the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour will enter an exciting new era as the Toyota Tour, through a historic tri-party agreement between the PGM Tour with UMW Toyota Motor as the Naming Partner and MST Golf as the Delivery Agency.

The 2023 Toyota Tour will see a minimum 10-event schedule with a minimum of one co-sanctioned event with the Asian Development Tour (ADT). Each tournament will boast elevated prize money for both men and women professionals, and will incorporate elements that enhance the tour’s connection to the amateur game.

The revitalised tour will not only be more lucrative but will offer an elevated experience during tournament week, with premier courses as locations and innovative spectator activities.

To reach out to existing golf fans and expand the game’s reach, the Toyota Tour will make full use of the digital space via an informative new website and engaging social media content.

UMW Toyota Motor will also be working with MST Golf to develop an elite junior development programme with the aim of getting more Malaysians on the international tours.

“The PGM Tour’s partnership with UMW Toyota Motor and MST Golf is a huge boost to the local professional golf scene. The Toyota Tour will ensure an enhanced pathway for the nation’s professionals and aspiring professionals to progress to the regional and world stages,” said PGM Tour Acting Chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman during the Toyota Tour media announcement event at MST Golf Arena, The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City, on January 10.

“This landmark development will continue to build on the legacy of the late Tun Ahmad Sarji, who founded the PGM Tour in 2010. I am sure Tun is smiling down upon us now and giving us two big thumbs up!”

UMW Toyota Motor President Ravindran K. noted that the sport of golf syncs well with Toyota’s ideals.

“Toyota is excited to be part of the professional golf scene in Malaysia as the sport shares many similarities with the company’s ideals – our dedication to pushing our limits and our drive for perfection to deliver the best possible performance, all of which are encompassed by the company’s brand promise to ‘Move Your World’,” said Ravindran K.

“Working closely with our esteemed partners, the PGM Tour and MST Golf, we will also be implementing various sustainability initiatives where we aim to achieve a net positive environmental impact,” he added.

The delivery of the Toyota Tour is entrusted to MST Golf, the region’s leading golf retailer and golf services provider.

“We are extremely proud to be part of the Toyota Tour, which will really drive professional golf in Malaysia to a whole new level,” said MST Golf Chief Executive Officer Ng Yap.

“The Toyota Tour will be a commercially-driven, sustainable tour and our ultimate aim is to be the best domestic circuit in the world. One of the main aims of the tour is to bridge the gap between professional golf and amateur golf, thus building a stronger connection to help boost the golf industry as whole.” he added.

PGM Tour announces calendar for 2022 season, RM1.395 million total prize money

After a two-year hiatus, the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour resumes later this month. The local circuit launched their schedule for the 2022 season yesterday at Glenmarie Golf & Country Club.

PGM Tour’s interim chairman Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman announced a total of 11 scheduled events for the year starting with the inaugural Tun Ahmad Sarji Trophy beginning on 23 February at Saujana Golf & Country Club. The 2022 PGM Tour season opener named in honour of the tour's late founding chairman, Tun Ahmad Sarji, will be a four-day tournament featuring total prize money of RM200,000.

All PGM Tour events following that will be three-day closed tournaments, which means that they will not carry any World Ranking points. PGM Tour has also made the decision to stage the tournaments in the middle of the week from Tuesday to Thursday.

In clarifying the reason for switching to three-day championships from the previous four-day events, PGM Tour General Manager Nik Mustapha Nik Mohamed said: “We are going to start our tournaments on Tuesdays and end on Thursdays so that does not impact the golf clubs too much because normally the members [will] want to play on the weekends. By avoiding the weekends, we are making it easier on us and easier on the clubs.”

A total of RM1,395,000 will be spread out as prize money over 10 men’s championships, five ladies’ championships as well as one Qualifying School event in the 2022 season.

Malaysian golf received a huge boost with the announcement that the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour will enter an exciting new era as the Toyota Tour, through a historic tri-party agreement between the PGM Tour with UMW Toyota Motor as the Naming Partner and MST Golf as the Delivery Agency.

UMW Toyota Motor will also be working with MST Golf to develop an elite junior development programme with the aim of getting more Malaysians on the international tours.
