Trade and Travel Reviews (2024) – Is Teri Ijeoma’s Course Scam?

The Trade and Travel course is one of the best trading courses. This course teaches the nitty gritty of stock trading. The course was previously closed. But now there is an ongoing cohort program. Trade and Travel 2.0 course was launched in March 2023 and the intake of new students is currently ongoing. You can also split the payment into easy monthly payments. There is no doubt that the Trade and Travel course over-delivers. The only reason why I will not recommend the program is the hefty price and the no refund policy. Besides that, all looks good. If you are looking for a better and more affordable alternative, I recommend The Humbled Trader . With hundreds of student testimonials who are making a full-time income from trading,  The Humbled Trader definitely  is my #1 recommendation (at the moment).

Learn More about Trade and Travel

The Trade and Travel course is one of the more recent additions to the courses on stock trading, especially day trading.

The course was launched in 2017 and has only grown more popular since then.

However, “Trade and Travel” has become the subject of negative side talks with many claiming that the course creator sells the course on unrealistic promises .

It can be hard to know which side to listen to, especially if you are intent on learning how to make money trading stocks and want a course that promises and delivers.

My review of the course is out and you can read it here right now. I have gone the extra mile to separate fact from fiction and present an unbiased breakdown of everything that the course is all about.

You will learn what the Trade and Travel course is, what it contains, its target audience, reviews from past students, as well as its pros and cons .

At the end of the review, you will know if the course is a gold mine or a booby trap. Alright, let’s get started.

What is Trade and Travel Course all about?

Trade and Travel with Teri Ijeoma

The Trade and Travel course is meant to teach its users how to trade with minimal risks and losses on the stock market and make a good profit.

Upon completing the training, you should (presumably) be an excellent day trader. And that means you’ll have mastered technical analysis and chart reading.

Teri Ijeoma created the course after people who knew her and heard about her success in stock trading requested her to put them through in stock trading.

The course is mighty expensive but Teri claims that the training provided in it can fetch you an extra $200 every day.

That’s a very confident promise especially when you look at the unpredictable nature of stock trading.

Who is it for?

The Trade and Travel Course isn’t for everyone just as stock trading isn’t for everyone even if you are an entrepreneur.

Trade and Travel is intended for any who’s into stock trading or day trading as the case may be.

Hence individuals trading solo can avail themselves of it. And so can those who are trading for companies.

Let’s talk about them a little more.

Individuals Trading Solo

Individuals trading solo might be doing so with their funds. Otherwise, they might be managing other people’s funds.

In any case, solo traders often lack the funds and resources they would have had if they were trading for companies.

That’s why they need all the training they can get to minimize their risks and losses as much as possible so they can make the most of their limited resources.

To that end, Invest With Teri (or Trade and Travel) provides a clear learning structure complete with a curriculum and comprehensive lessons.

The course goes further to assist its learners by providing a community for interaction with other students at various levels of learning.

Individuals Trading for Large Institutions

These people usually have access to abundant funds and resources in the form of software that helps them stay in the know as to the latest market trends.

Nevertheless, every extra bit of knowledge is a plus and the Trade and Travel Course can provide that if Teri’s claims are anything to go by.

And of course, before you can trade for institutions, you must have more than just the basics of what stock trading is all about.

That means you can use Teri’s course to learn stock trading up to a considerable level.

Of course, before you can use Trade and Travel for your learning, you must be able to shell out the sum of money the course demands. And if you can’t, then the course is definitely not for you.

Who is Teri Ijeoma?

Teri Ijeoma is an American stock market investor and the creator of the Trade and Travel course also known as Invest with Teri.

Teri Ijeoma has a rich history starting from her descent up to her business career.

Speaking of the latter, she worked in various positions at different educational and non-profit institutions before she discovered that stock trading was the way for her.

Teri Ijeoma was born in June 1984 to a family of modest means. She liked the sciences when she was in high school but got a degree in business management from MIT.

Teri was introduced to financial markets while doing her internship at Morgan Stanley.

Not too long after, she worked with Teach for America, a non-profit organization for free access to education for all people.

All this while, Teri was still interested in stock trading and she spent much time reading books and taking courses on the subject. That was how she realized that stock trading could be her main source of income.

Long story short, Teri made a lot of money from stock trading by applying what she learned and she decided to show others how to leverage stock trading to their advantage.

And that’s how Trade and Travel were born.

What is in the course?

Trade and Travel course outline

The trade and Travel course is self-paced and comprises over 100 hours of video-based lessons.

There are seven (arguably eight) classes of education that Teri claims teach everything she should have known before investing.

You will learn technical analysis and chart reading as well as risk management for traders.

Other highlights of the course include how to make money even when the stocks are going down, how to improve your chart reading success rate and how to accelerate earnings with options.

Trade and Travel is in two parts, the starter, and the advanced (VIP) program.

The former has only four classes while the latter has all seven or eight. You get to pay the full sum of money for the complete course and if you go with the starter plan, you pay half.

Check below for the full summary of everything the course contains.

Class 1: Introduction To The Stock Market

Class 2: Risk Management For Traders

Class 3: Introduction To Technical Analysis (Revamped)

Class 4: The 7-step IWT Trading Plan

Bonus: Trade Station: Quick Start Guide

Class 5: Shorting (VIP)

Class 6: Gaps and Globex (VIP)

Class 7: Intro to Options (VIP)

Then there are bonuses exclusive to the VIP program. They are; Group Coaching Calls, Student Study Groups, and Facebook groups.

Pros of Trade and Travel Course

While Teri’s course has come under a lot of criticism (which we will get to in a moment), there are some likeable things about the course. Let’s dig them out.

Access to a Community

Trade and Travel provide a community of fellow students and traders you can always rub your minds with if you’re not clear about anything.

You also get a plaque award when you cross the $1k per day trading profit.

Lifetime Access

After paying for the course, you will have access to all its content for as long as the platform exists. Given the expensive pricing of the course, not having it would have been a real bummer.

So a good one from Teri.

Expert Support

From time to time, you will be able to consult with Teri’s team of coaches. On rare occasions, you can have one on one coaching sessions with Teri but that’s only if you are on the VIP plan.

What’s more common is group masterclass sessions with Teri for those on the VIP plan.

Cons of Trade and Travel Course

Trade and Travel course has several downsides that you can’t afford to ignore. The course specializes in day trading and day trading has its own set of negatives already.

But there is a lot more. Let’s get into it.

Paper trading

You will learn how to read market charts and do all sorts of analysis and prediction, but the majority of the trades are paper trading.

That means any result or claim in the program isn’t real money and is merely being used for illustrative purposes. To quote Teri; “ the materials and classes are for informative and illustrative purposes only and do not purport to show actual results. “

Teri’s Money Comes from Course Sales

Teri Ijeoma talks a lot in her courses about how she’s making money from trading, but she doesn’t disclose financial details from her day trading business.

Instead, she has taken to the internet to share how she became a course creator on Teachable and has made over $30,000,000 in course sales (some estimates say over $45,000,000)

In fact, Teri is Teachable’s most successful course creator.

That said, even though she might have made more money from courses than trading, she does have a lot of value to provide.

Plus, she has equally made millions from day trading.

Sky-high Pricing

For a course, $2,500 or $5,000 depending on the package you choose is exorbitant.

Not everyone can afford the high price the course costs. But thankfully, there is a plan to pay monthly.

Also, several of the students have been able to recoup their investment in six months. So while it is a con, it is still worth it (if I can recoup my money).

No Refunds

This is the only thing I dislike about the problem. You can’t get your money back if you go in for the course no matter the package you choose.

Not allowing refunds is a very serious flaw for any course or platform especially when you are charging a salary earner’s monthly pay.

But it could also be a result of students taking advantage of that to get the course for free.

Notwithstanding, I understand this can be a deal breaker for a lot of people.

Reviews from her students

Teri has over 2000 students who have crossed the $1000 per day from stock trading (as written on her website).

reviews of trade and travel course

But that is not enough to trust. I did some digging on Reddit to see what some of her students think. It was hard finding something about the program but found this:

reviews of trade and travel course

But finally checked Youtube where I found several positive reviews.

reviews of trade and travel course

Is Invest with Teri a scam?

Deciding whether Invest with Teri is legit or an outright scam is easier said than done.

The records show that to date, over 28,000 people have bought the Trade and Travel course and as expected, the success rate will be a mixed story.

However, numbers don’t tell the whole story and you shouldn’t fall for them.

Teri’s course has reached thousands of people because of her impressive marketing strategies and many of those people would have been taken in by Teri’s sweet marketing catchphrases.

For those that day trading worked for or is working for after using Teri’s course, you can’t rule out the role of guesswork. Besides, these people most likely had plenty of funds in their trading account to sustain their day trading and make reasonable gains.

My major gripe with Invest with Teri is that the wealth she flaunts comes mostly from her course sales. That can only mean that she is making little from day trading itself, if at all.

Besides, Teri doesn’t use any real examples in her videos. All the figures and exciting stats she quotes are merely for illustrative purposes.

She even admits that the results are not real and the training in the videos should not be taken as trading advice.

What’s the point? It’s a game of uncertainty.

On top of all that, the course carries an exorbitant price tag and the money is non-refundable. So if you later change your mind after paying for the course, you are on your own.

However, it is not a scam.

Alternative

I recommend the Trade and Travel 2.0 course but I am aware not everyone will be able to afford the $10,000 course.

It costs an arm and a leg. Hence, a need for an alternative. The best alternative I recommend so far is The Humbled Trader .

This academy covers everything you need to know about price action for trading stocks, forex, and crypto.

Plus you get access to a community of traders, weekly market analysis, and live mentorships.

With hundreds of student testimonials who are making a full-time income from trading,  The Humbled Trader definitely  has something to teach.

Before we draw the curtain on this review, I will attend to a few other questions in order to arm you with all you need to know about Invest with Teri.

How long is the trade and travel course?

The Trade and Travel course is meant to last for eight weeks. The training is split into four sections and the recommended amount of time to spend on each section is two weeks. However, you can blitz through the whole curriculum in a week.

How much is the trade and travel course?

The Trade and Travel course is billed at $2,500. The VIP upgrade is $2,500. You can pay the total of $5,000 at once or upgrade later and pay the difference.

What do trade and travel mean?

Trade and Travel explains how Teri sums up the luxury lifestyle you can finance with trading stocks.

It’s her way of saying that you can make so much money trading stocks that you can, among other things, travel anywhere around the world as often as you like.

Trade And Travel Review – Teri Ijeoma Scam?

Text Only

January 14

reviews of trade and travel course

Trade And Travel is an expensive day trading course from Teri Ijeoma.

I'm sure before spending thousands on this program you want to know if it's legit or a scam.

You're in luck because I went through the entire course and created this review to answer that question.

There's a lot to unpack here.

I'll show you who exactly Teri is, any red flags, an overview of what you get and more.

Most importantly I'll tell you if Trade And Travel is worth it.

Let's start!

Trade And Travel Summary

reviews of trade and travel course

Owner:  Teri Ijeoma

Price:  $2500 to $5000

Rating:  2/5

Do I Recommend?  No.

Summary:  There's nothing really to like about Trade And Travel.

It's very expensive, the training is lackluster and it teaches day trading (low success rate).

It's extremely clear to me that Teri makes almost all her money from course sales and not trading.

Top Alternative:  I've reviewed all the top places to get high return stock ideas. To see my favorite (which is extremely affordable), click below:

3 Things To Know About Teri Ijeoma

reviews of trade and travel course

Teri Ijeoma is the creator of Trade And Travel.

Here's everything you need to know about her.

1) She's Built An Impressive Brand

Before we get into the negatives about Teri I do want to applaud her brand building abilities.

She's built a legitimate business here and has made a lot of money doing so (which I'll cover shortly).

Teri started as an assistant principle for an elementary school and was able to build the Trade And Travel brand up.

She sells courses and now does nation wide tours to promote her products.

Below is just a glimpse into her life:

She's also killing it on social media.

She has hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and Youtube .

So in that regard she's doing very well.

However, you NEED to ask yourself this question..

Is he making more trading or selling courses? I think the next section will clear this up.

2) Terry Makes Millions Selling Courses

reviews of trade and travel course

This is good for Teri but should be a MAJOR red flag for you.

If you were making $30 million selling courses would you even bother trading?

Of course not.

You'd put all your effort into the thing making you millions and that's what Teri does.

She travels the country on a Trade and Travel tour..

She builds her brand through social media and makes videos for her Youtube.

If you go to her Instagram or Youtube you'll see she's always on the go.

How is she possibly day trading full time (which is the hardest way to trade and takes the most time) and running this business.

The answer is she's not.

I'm sure she has some investments and has money in the stock market but I promise you her energy is not there.

It's in promoting Trade And Travel.

There's even a disclaimer on her website admitting the results she talks about aren't even real!

3) There's Some Puff Pieces Out There About Teri

I'm willing to bet you found this article through a search engine.. most likely through Google (or Bing, Yahoo, etc.).

You may not exactly understand how Google works but here's a summary:

Google tries to match results up to what you're searching. Google favors websites with high authority like news sites. Those articles always go straight to the top of Google.

Smart marketers recognize this and will pay well established sites to do PR for them.

When you type "Teri Ijeoma scam" into Google the following pops up:

reviews of trade and travel course

This gives legitimacy to Teri.

People will look at this and think "well Forbes trusts Teri so should I."

I have no clue if Teri paid for this interview or paid a firm to get Forbes to run this article but many people do that.

Just realize articles like the one from Forbes are nothing but puff pieces and aren't real investigations.

What Is Trade And Travel?

Before we get into what Trade And Travel offers let's take a look at what exactly is Trade And Travel.

Here's what you should know:

Trade And Travel Teaches Day Trading

There's a lot of ways to trade and day trading is one of my least favorite ways to do it.

There's a lot of reasons why.

First off, it's the most time intensive trading strategy. You'll need to devote hours a day when the market opens and when the market closes.

This isn't realistic if you have a job or are a busy person.

Secondly, day trading is very technical.

Day trading requires reading complicated charts that look like the following:

reviews of trade and travel course

Is this really how you want to spend hours a day?.. just looking at these charts?

There's ways to invest that don't require technical analysis or anything like that.

Thirdly, you need a lot of money to day trade. Day trading requires you to buy many stocks a week and sell them in short windows (many times in the same day).

However, this is a highly regulated industry.

You need $25,000 in your account to make more than 3 trades a week.

Realistically you'll need $30,000 to ensure you don't go under $25,000.

Is $1000 A Day Realistic?

Not really.

Day trading is the least successful trading method out there and only about 4% of people make ANY money

Keep in mind that this is just making anything.

This isn't people that make a full time living from day trading.

That number is probably less than 1% to be completely honest.

The amount of people making $1000 a day is a fraction of that.

Teri likes to brag about having 2000 students that made more than $1000 in a day (just one time, not consistently) but remember..

It says right on her website that any results she talks about aren't real.

So if she says someone is making this much or she's making this much, it's only for "illustrative purposes."

Trade And Travel Overview

reviews of trade and travel course

There's two different programs at Trade And Travel.

There's the course and there's the VIP Investor Program.

Here's a breakdown of each:

Trade And Travel ($2500)

Trade And Travel is a self paced course that's spread out over 4 weeks.

You get the following:

  • Trade And Travel Program:  This is supposed to be a 4 week course but can easily be done faster. It's only 4 weeks if you do 1 video a day.
  • Teri's Stock Watchlist:  You'll get a list of stocks that Teri is keeping her eye on.
  • Risk/Reward Calculator:  You get a tool that helps you determine if a trade is worth it or not.
  • Private Facebook Group:  You'll get access to a private Facebook Group where you can interact with other members. You can also ask questions there.

VIP Investor Program ($5000)

The VIP Investor Program comes with everything you get with Trade And Travel and the following:

  • Various Advanced Trading Strategies:  You get additional strategies for trading. This includes short selling, options selling, gap trading and globex trading.
  • Private Facebook Group:  You get another Facebook group with just other VIP Investor Program members.
  • Live Weekly Coaching Calls:  You get weekly coaching calls from the coaches at Trade and Travel.

What I Think About Trade And Travel

There's a lot to digest when it comes to Trade And Travel.

Here's a summary of what I think about it:

Way Too Overpriced

This program is really, really expensive.

Teri didn't sell $30 million in courses by giving anything away for cheap.

And to be honest you don't get that much in the Trade And Travel program.

You get a 4 week course but honestly you should get through it in one week.

Then you have a private Facebook group but there's plenty of day trading communities you can join.

There's a watchlist but again.. there's plenty of those on the internet.

There's not a day trading room where you can watch Teri Trade or even a Discord chat where you can talk trades.

Many other day trading programs come with all this and is still less expensive.

Beware Positive Reviews

I wanted to get an idea of what other people thought of this program and searched out everyone else's reviews.

Basically all were overwhelmingly positive.

BUT there's a reason for this.. they're promoting the course and earning money for recommending people to the course.

This is the case for all three reviews I checked out.

When you read the reviews you'll notice they link to Trade And Travel.

If you click the link and look at the URLs you'll see this:

reviews of trade and travel course

"Affcode" stands for affiliate code.

This is a tracking link that tracks people that come from the reviews.

If you go to one of the reviews, click the link and make a purchase, the reviewer gets a commission.

The commission is likely $1000+.

This is why these reviews are so overwhelmingly positive.

How Successful Can The Coaches Be?

The main selling point for the VIP Investor Program is that you get weekly coaching calls.

Keep in mind these aren't coaching calls with Teri.. these are calls with "coaches."

Notice how Teri doesn't tell you who these coaches are beforehand.

My guess is that she doesn't want you looking up who they are and their backgrounds.

If you can really make $1000 a day trading why the hell would you also be a coach?

If you were making $300,000 per year trading (which would take HOURS a day) would you also spend hours a day coaching beginners?

How much can a coach really be making at Trade And Travel?

It would have to be serious money to make it worth it.

Newsflash: These coaches aren't successful traders and won't be able to help you in any meaningful way.

This makes the main selling point for the $5000 program worthless.

No Refunds (HUGE Reed Flag)

I guess you don't make $30 million in course sales by giving refunds either.

This is so disappointing and is just the cherry on the top for Trade And Travel.

This is from the website:

reviews of trade and travel course

Every legitimate program on earth has some sort of refund policy.

It's a red flag Trade And Travel doesn't. There's nothing particularly sensitive about the training or anything like that.

If Teri was confident in the training she'd let people get their money back.

There's Cheaper Alternatives

I don't think you should get involved with day trading. It's too risky and takes too much time.

BUT if you absolutely are dead set on day trading there's much more affordable options out there.

You can find a high quality day trading book on Amazon for under $15:

reviews of trade and travel course

There's plenty of Youtube videos that will explain everything as well.

Trade And Travel Pros And Cons

  • Teri is a good marketer:  This really doesn't benefit you at all but Teri is good at selling her course and building a brand.
  • Way too expensive:  Never spend thousands of dollars on a day trading course. There's so many options out there that won't cost that much.
  • No refunds:  Every legit program should offer a refund policy.
  • Makes more selling courses:  There's ZERO chance Teri makes more trading than selling courses. Zero.
  • You just don't get a lot:  The program doesn't have that much training and there aren't any great bonuses.
  • Positive reviews are from promoters:  All other reviews I found were from people getting paid to promote the course.

Trade And Travel Conclusion

Someone in a forum asked if Trade And Travel was worth it:

reviews of trade and travel course

This person was mesmerized by Teri having a nice house.

However, the following response to this post was perfect:

reviews of trade and travel course

And that sums up Trade And Travel perfectly.

The expensive house Teri has, the traveling, the jewelry, the millions of dollars.. all comes from one place.. YOU.

She didn't get this rich trading. She got here selling these expensive programs to naïve people.

You're not making millions day trading unless you already have millions to trade.

And the odds aren't in your favor.

Only 4% to 5% of day traders make anything, let alone millions.

Do yourself a favor and spend your money on a more affordable program and then invest the difference.

Don't give thousands to Teri so she can pamper herself and pretend she got rich from trading.

Here's A Better Opportunity

I'd pass on Trade And Travel.. it's just way too expensive and there's nothing special about the training.

The good news is there's plenty of places that will give you high return stock ideas.

To see my favorite place that does this (that's very affordable), click below:

The Epic Guide to Teri Ijeoma’s New Trade and Travel 2.0 Course

  • By: Lynnette Khalfani-Cox, The Money Coach

If you’re considering trading stocks – which is also known as “active investing” – chances are you may have heard of Teri Ijeoma, creator of the popular Trade and Travel course.

She’s been featured as the #1 course creator on Teachable and profiled in various media, from Forbes to Black Enterprise to Good Morning America and more.

Teri Ijeoma is a stock trading expert who has taught her 7-step trading system to more than 30,000 individuals of all backgrounds – from pure novices to more experienced traders. By learning to trade stocks, Teri says, everyday people can supplement their income and reach their personal goals, such as paying off debt, buying a home or starting a business.

But who exactly is Teri Ijeoma? And is Trade and Travel worth plunking down thousands of dollars?

Most important: what exactly do people learn in this stock-trading course, which just got a fresh update for 2023?

After having personally taken the course in the past, here’s my honest review of Trade and Travel, including an epic guide to this day-trading program.

This ultimate guide will show you the following information and answer these questions:

Who is Teri Ijeoma?

How does trade and travel compare to other stock day trading courses.

10 Things You Learn in Trade and Travel

What are the Drawbacks to the Trade and Travel Course?

How much does trade and travel cost.

What’s New in Trade and Travel 2.0?

Is Trade and Travel 2.0 Worth It?

Should you upgrade to the trade and travel 2.0 course.

Key Dates in 2023 for the Official Launch of Trade and Travel 2.0

Teri Ijeoma graduated from MIT and actually worked in education and the nonprofit sector before starting Trade and Travel.

Initially, she traded stocks just as a side-hustle to earn extra money to fund her wanderlust and love of worldwide travel. (She’s visited Australia, the Maldives, Vietnam, Israel and dozens of other countries).

But after a few years, Teri found she was quite good at consistently trading profitably – no small feat, considering more than 90% of day traders LOSE money.

Once Teri realized she could regularly make winning trades by repeating a very specific trading system, that’s when she launched Trade and Travel in 2017.

I can’t attest to the quality of other stock-trading programs, because honestly, I haven’t taken any.

I do, however, have a strong background in investing. (I wrote a book called Investing Success (foreword by Charles Schwab ) and I’m a former Wall Street Journal reporter and CNBC correspondent who used to cover Wall Street and the brokerage industry. So, I come at this topic with more knowledge and expertise than the average person).

And after doing a ton of research on this topic, I can attest to the strength of Trade and Travel in terms of how it’s different in structure and breadth from most other day trading courses.

The typical day trading course taught by pros like Teri focus on ONE main aspect of active investing – like trading psychology, or specific trading strategies. Some stock courses give an introduction to trading or a general overview of trading. But that’s very piecemeal and not as comprehensive as Trade and Travel.

Overall, I found Teri’s class to be thorough, in-depth, and practical at teaching NUMEROUS core aspects of active investing, as well as many unique strategies to boost your chances of trading success. It’s also very well-organized and taught in layman’s terms. She breaks stuff down like a good teacher would, in order to make sure you understand critical concepts.

(Full disclosure: I’ve known Teri for several years, have done a separate video-based investing course with her, and I’m an affiliate of Trade and Travel. She didn’t ask me to write this article, though. I decided to write this piece to help anyone contemplating the idea of trading stocks make a better, more informed decision).

10 Things You Learn in this Trade and Travel Review

Here are just some of the things you’ll learn in Trade and Travel.

1) How to read candlesticks

In the investing world, candlesticks are a type of chart that show the opening, closing, high and low prices of a stock over a certain period of time. Teri teaches you how to read these charts so you can better understand the price movements of stocks.

2) How to calculate good entry and exit points when trading stocks

An entry and exit point for a stock is the price at which you buy and sell it. Teri teaches you how to figure out a good entry point for a stock so that you can maximize your profits when you sell.

3) How to evaluate risk-reward

This refers to the risk you take (or potential loss you face) when trading a given stock versus the possible reward (or potential profit you might net). Teri teaches you how to evaluate the risk/reward ratio of a stock so that you can make prudent decisions about which stocks represent good opportunities to trade, and which ones you should stay away from.

4) How to trade in a “sim” account

A simulated account, or sim account, is a practice account that allows you to trade stocks without risking any real money. Teri advises all her students to first use a sim account so that you can practice trading and hone your skills before putting your own money at risk.

5) How to set up and use stop-loss orders

A stop-loss order is an electronic order placed with a brokerage firm to automatically sell a stock if it drops below a certain price. Teri teaches that you should always use a stop-loss order to limit your downside risk, just in case a trade goes wrong.

6) How to control your emotions

Fear. Greed. Overconfidence. Panic! All of these emotions can affect your trading success. Controlling your emotional state when day trading is vitally important. Teri teaches you how to keep your emotions in check so that you can make rational decisions when trading stocks.

7) How to read stock charts

Stock charts are a visual representation of the price movements of a stock over time. Teri teaches you how to read and interpret these charts, even in increments of minutes, hours or days, so that you can make smarter trades.

8) When to trade – and when NOT to

At the risk of giving away too many secrets from Trade and Travel , I will say that one of the biggest takeaways I got from Teri’s course was learning when NOT to trade. For example, Teri advises her students to avoid trading:

When a company has an earnings reporting period (companies can surprise you when reporting quarterly or annual revenues and profits, and a “downside” surprise – or lower revenue or earnings than expected – can lead to a horrible trading day on Wall Street)

When a stock has hit an all-time high (many traders get burned this way and later sell at a loss)

When a stock has had a downward trend (you want to avoid buying a stock in a downward spiral)

During major announcements (such as when the Federal Reserve issues statements on monetary policy or about its plans for interest rate increases or decreases)

Any penny stocks anytime (they’re far more speculative and riskier)

This advice alone is golden – and keeps people from suffering potential trading losses!

9) How to take your first trade with confidence

Even after you learn what to do, you may have trouble actually pulling the trigger and doing it.

It’s natural to feel some apprehension – or even outright worry – when the time comes to trade using your real money. Everyone experiences doubt at some point, even seasoned professionals. But some stock market traders say that confidence when trading is crucial for short and long-term success. Confidence comes from knowing that you have a strategy and aren’t just making haphazard trading decisions.

The Trade and Travel course is designed to gradually build your confidence and comfort in taking a trade , even if you have no prior experience trading or investing. Since Teri teaches you the fundamentals – including risk management strategies, numerous do’s and don’ts of trading, the emotional side of trading and more – with this knowledge in hand, you can take your first trade with confidence. (Join the next weeklong “ Take Your First Trade Challenge ” for help).

10) An overall trading methodology

The world’s most successful stock traders use systems and pre-defined rules to guide their actions. They don’t just arbitrarily trade based on emotion and gut feeling. Teri Ijeoma is no different. Her trading methodology revealed in the Trade and Travel course requires you to perform seven proven steps for each and every trade. By applying a consistent, disciplined trading system, you can increase your chances of success, trading with more confidence and consistency.

Depending on your perspective, one drawback to Trade and Travel is that it’s a lot of work!

Teri isn’t touting a “get rich quick” strategy, so you absolutely have to put in the time and effort to learn her trading system.

Part of the time you’ll spend is simply joining group coaching calls and watching or re-watching the training videos. There are about 50+ hours of self-paced instruction in Trade and Travel . It’ll take you roughly four to six weeks to go through everything, potentially longer if you can’t commit as much time to the program.

Additionally, you’ll need to spend time practicing your trading before you take the plunge and put your real, hard-earned dollars into the stock market.

Personally, I don’t see this as a downside. But I know that some people are eager to put their new-found trading knowledge to work, so having to exercise patience and spend a month or so just practicing simulated trades may seem tedious. (Pro tip: Doing simulated trades ultimately gives you confidence and prepares you to trade real money. It helps you learn how to manage your emotions too).

The price of the course may also be a barrier to some people who can’t afford to pay for it. But there’s a big difference between paying for something and making an investment in something.

Read on for my take on how an investment in Trade and Travel 2.0 can pay off handsomely.

The current version of the Trade and Travel Course presently costs $2,500 and what’s known as the “VIP Program” costs $5,000. But those prices will only be in force until early 2023.

Effective March 2023, several elements of Trade and Travel are changing, including new and updated components of the program and pricing.

In the past, weekly group coaching calls were part of the standard Trade and Travel offering. Now, as part of what’s been dubbed Trade and Travel 2.0 , which launches March 13, 2023, there will no longer be live coaching calls unless you add a support subscription plan to your account.

As of this writing, the pricing for the subscription plan has not been disclosed.

Also, Trade and Travel 2.0 will now be just ONE comprehensive course, instead of the basic course and the separate VIP program that was offered for years with Trade and Travel 1.0.

The pricing for the new Trade and Travel 2.0 Program has been revealed: it’s $10,000.

That’s obviously not a small chunk of change.

Frankly, though, I’m not surprised at the higher price, for several reasons.

For starters, many top-level trading courses are at this price point; some lower, some higher.

Additionally, the VIP Program had been the same price for more than three years, even though participants in the VIP Program rave about it. Many of them are part of Teri’s elite “$1,000 a day Club, ” – meaning these are people who learned to master Teri’s trading strategies and now make an average of $1,000 a day when trading.

With Teri’s new all-in-one course, participants will be getting the equivalent of the former basic course and VIP program – along with lots of enhancements.

What’s New in Trade and Travel 2.0?

Teri hired several curriculum development specialists to help her enhance Trade and Travel 2.0 and she invested time and money in creating more than 200 explainer videos to better educate her students in 2023 and beyond.

According to the InvestWithTeri.com website, the relaunch of Trade and Travel 2.0 is intended “to give an elevated learning experience and level of service to our students. You can expect new visuals, more comprehensive resources, efficient customer service, and a whole new set of features.”

On social media, Teri has indicated that people can expect to see Trade and Travel merchandise in 2023 as well, such as T-Shirts, luxurious sweatshirts and more.

But what about the content and related items? There are three main categories of enhancements, new updates and experiences to be found in the refreshed version of Trade and Travel 2.0.

New Curriculum

Features updated videos

Introduces a new, comprehensive “Trading Plan” to more clearly show students how all aspects of Teri’s trading strategy fit together

Includes Shorting, Gaps and Globex in the Core Strategy (See details below)

Adds 15-minute charts (in addition to daily charts) to help students become better real-time stock traders

Provides new course content on learning to trade with the stock market’s momentum (either up or down)

Re-organizes technical analysis into the order of the Core Strategy

New Community

Unveils a Subscription Model — as mentioned, students in Trade and Travel 2.0 will be able to get additional, live support, but that will be at a fee going forward

Trade and Trade 2.0 is upgrading to Mighty Networks, which brings together Facebook, Telegram Groups, and Coaching Calls into one place

Facilitated Local Meet Up Groups – to better connect the Trade and Travel community offline as well as online

New Conferences

Trade and Travel 2.0 gives people the option to learn the Curriculum live; as opposed to solely taking the course online via video and/or group coaching calls

The Trade and Travel team is considering doing two live conferences in the U.S. and one overseas

In my opinion, an investment in Trade and Travel 2.0 is definitely worth it for three reasons.

First, you’ll learn a valuable skill, trading, which is something that can help you generate income that is not dependent on a having job or clients.

Additionally, you’ll expand your knowledge base in the  financial arena . Far too many people lack understanding of investments, trading and how Wall Street works – especially women and people of color .

Finally, as most of Teri Ijeoma’s students attest, the money spent is worthwhile because, after following her methodology, you’ll likely make way more money from trading than you spent on the course.

Are you guaranteed to make a certain amount of money? No, absolutely not.

All stock market investing involves risk and outcomes can’t be “guaranteed.”

However, according to Teri Ijeoma, her proprietary strategies not only reduce your trading risk and minimize your stress about trading stocks , but the average Trade and Travel student finds that the tips and strategies they learn help them trade so profitably that they typically recoup their investment in the course in about 8 to 10 weeks.

Historically, one reason the prior Trade and Travel VIP course appealed to so many people is that you learn how to trade other securities beyond stocks, and you learned additional strategies and methods for making money in up and down markets.

For instance, 2022 was a terrible year for stocks overall. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 9% in 2022 and the Nasdaq Composite Index, which is largely made of tech stocks, plummeted 33%.

But if you know how to short sell, and if you understand gap trading techniques, (both of which Teri Ijeoma teaches in the past version of her advanced VIP program and in the new Trade and Travel 2.0), you can still have winning trades and make money even when stocks are falling.

Quick explanation: Short selling is when you borrow shares of a stock from your broker and sell them, hoping the price will go down so you can buy them back at a lower price and pocket the difference.

Therefore, if you’re looking to make money in both up and down markets, then the Trade and Travel 2.0 course is definitely worth examining.

Advanced Trading Strategies Revealed

Trade and Travel 2.0 also teaches you about trading calls, puts and options.

Calls are contracts that give you the right – but not the obligation – to buy a stock at a certain price. Puts are contracts that give you the right to sell a stock at a certain price. And options are contracts that give you the right to buy or sell a stock at a certain price.

These more complex strategies can be used to generate income, hedge against losses, and even bet on stocks without actually buying them.

Finally, the Trade and Travel 2.0 course also teaches you Globex trading strategies.

Never heard of that? Don’t worry; you’re not alone. (Hint: Globex is an electronic trading platform used to trade commodities, options and futures contracts, as well as other derivatives).

But I think you get my point: If you want to learn more sophisticated trading strategies, you should strongly consider Teri Ijeoma’s new program.

Certainly, if you’re thinking of upgrading to the Trade and Travel 2.0 course, do it by March 6, 2023 to save $5,000 and pay the old price before the price increase kicks in. (You can spread payments over three to 12 months , if desired).

Key Dates In 2023 for the Official Launch of Trade and Travel 2.0

For those ready to try their hands at trading, you can pre-enroll in February and immediately get access to the new Trade and Travel 2.0.

You should also mark your calendar these important dates:

The next “Take Your First Trade Challenge” : February 27th – March 3rd

Trade and Travel 2.0 Pre-enrollment Sale Ends: March 6th

The first Travel and Travel 2.0 cohort starts: March 13th

In conclusion, Trade and Travel is an excellent opportunity for those willing to invest the time, money and effort into learning a new, valuable and potentially lucrative skill: trading stocks.

Trade and Travel Course: What’s the Difference Between Trading and Investing?

Trade and Travel Course by Teri Ijeoma. What's the difference between trading and investing. Trading vs. Investing.

Gain the skills to excel in the stock market. Whether beginner or experienced, trade with confidence and achieve your financial goals with the Trade and Travel course. Trading stocks for income is a concept more people are becoming familiar with. Actively trading is becoming a popular way to generate income and achieve financial independence.

When it comes to the world of finance and wealth-building, two terms often come up: trading and investing in stocks. While they may seem similar, there are distinct differences between the two approaches.

Disclaimer: The info provided in this blog post is for educational purposes only and should not be considered financial advice. Consult with a professional financial advisor before making investment decisions.

Trading vs. Investing

Table of Contents

1. Time Horizon

3. risk tolerance, 4. frequency of transactions, benefit 1: convenience, benefit 2: personal experience, benefit 3: step-by-step guidance.

Trading and investing are strategies used to generate wealth in the financial markets. However, they differ regarding time horizons, goals, and risk tolerance.

Trading involves short-term buying and selling of stocks, currencies, or commodities. Traders aim to profit from short-term price fluctuations, often holding positions for minutes, hours, or days.

There are three types of investors in the stock market.

Depending on your goals, trading frequency, and how much time you’re willing to invest in research, there are day traders, swing traders, and long-term investors.

Day trading involves actively trading for income by getting in and out of a trade within the same day. In contrast, swing trading involves holding onto stocks for a more extended period, typically a week or more.

Not to mention, day traders, if profitable, have access to the money they generate quickly. So, if you’re looking for a hands-on, flexible, do-from-anywhere gig, this might be your route.

Investing, on the other hand, focuses on long-term growth. Investors typically buy and hold assets for an extended period, often years or even decades. The goal is to accumulate wealth over time through appreciation and dividends.

To simplify, whether you’re a day trader, swing trader, or long-term investor, you’re buying something inexpensively and selling it for more to make a profit.

Traders aim to generate quick profits by taking advantage of short-term market movements. They use various strategies, like technical analysis, chart patterns, market trends, or news, to identify short-term trading opportunities.

On the contrary, investors have a long-term perspective and aim to build wealth over time. Their goals may include retirement planning, funding college or graduate school, or achieving financial independence .

They focus on fundamental analysis, evaluating the overall financial health and growth potential of companies or assets.

Trading involves higher levels of risk due to the short-term nature of transactions. Traders must be prepared to handle market volatility and accept the possibility (and reality) of losses.

They say most traders will lose money over their trading career, so be mindful. Risk management strategies, such as stop-loss orders, are crucial for traders to limit potential losses.

Investing is less risky since you can ride out market fluctuations and benefit from the overall market growth for an extended time.

No matter which approach you choose, investing carries risks. Diversification and understanding common mistakes new investors make and how to overcome them are crucial to managing risk and achieving success.

Traders frequently buy and sell assets, often executing multiple trades within a day or week. They closely monitor market conditions and make quick decisions based on their trading analysis.

Investors have fewer transactions. They buy assets to hold onto them for the long term.

Investing in stocks and trading comes with different fee structures.

Currently, many online brokers, like TD Ameritrade, Fidelity, and Trade Station, offer zero fees for trading stocks and ETFs (exchange-traded funds). However, fees may still apply for more complex trading, like options and futures.

When you buy or sell stocks, you may need to pay a brokerage commission. Fees vary by broker; some may be a fixed amount while others a percentage of the transaction value. Costs can add up quickly, significantly impacting profitability.

Active traders often use real-time market data to make informed decisions. Depending on the trading platform and the level of data needed, you might purchase additional monthly subscriptions.

In summary, fee structures vary widely depending on the broker you choose, the types of trades you make, and the trading frequency. Carefully review a broker’s fee schedule and terms before opening an account.

To bring all of these concepts to life, here’s a scenario that illustrates the differences between trading and long-term investing:

Meet Jasmine and Kamar, two friends passionate about investing in the stock market. They both have $10,000 to invest, and they’re excited to see how their money can grow over time.

Jasmine: The Trader

Jasmine is a trader. She’s on top of the latest news and market trends. She spends hours analyzing stock charts every day, monitoring economic indicators, and reading financial news. She enjoys the excitement of buying and selling stocks frequently to capitalize on short-term price fluctuations.

Here’s how Jasmine approaches her investments:

  • Research and analysis: Jasmine studies the stock market intensely and identifies short-term opportunities. She focuses on technical analysis, looking at stock charts and patterns, and follows the news for potential catalysts.
  • Frequent trading: Jasmine makes several daily trades, aiming to profit from short-term price movements. She might buy a stock today and sell it in a few minutes or days, looking for quick gains.
  • Emotional rollercoaster: Jasmine often experiences the thrill and stress of rapid price changes.

Kamar: The Long-Term Investor

Kamar, on the other hand, is a long-term investor. He believes in a “buy and hold” strategy, which means he intends to invest his money and hold onto his stocks for an extended period, often years or even decades.

Here’s how Kamar approaches his investments:

  • Research and analysis: He thoroughly researches companies and industries he believes will prosper over the long term. He pays attention to fundamentals, like a company’s financial health, competitive advantages, and growth potential.
  • Infrequent trading: Kamar rarely sells stocks. He purchases shares of well-established companies with a long-term perspective and intends to keep them through market ups and downs.
  • Risk tolerance: Kamar has a lower risk tolerance as he aims for stability and long-term growth. He’s not concerned about short-term price fluctuations because he believes in the value of his investments.
  • Peace of mind: He experiences less stress and anxiety compared to Jasmine. He isn’t worried about daily market fluctuations and focuses on long-term portfolio growth.

This example demonstrates the differences between trading and long-term investing, emphasizing the importance of understanding your goals and time horizon when deciding how to invest your money in the stock market.

Trade School vs. Career-Focused Colleges and Universities

Are you considering a trade school to get into the workforce fast? Learn about trade schools, their pros and cons, and alternatives like a career-focused college.

Trades jobs, also known as skilled trades, are hands-on careers that require specialized skills and training, but do not require an advanced college degree. Examples of skilled trades include welding, construction, plumbing, massage therapy, graphic design, and even respiratory care.

Increasingly, research shows that trades professions are some of the most lucrative pathways to pursue, as they are chock full of job opportunities and salary benefits. A recent survey from Thumbtack , for example, over 90 percent of professionals in trade jobs felt positively about their:

  • Earning potential
  • Job stability
  • Upward mobility
  • Upskilling opportunities

And according to the experts, now is a great time to enter this type of career. Marco Zappacosta, CEO and cofounder of Thumbtack, explained, “There’s never been a better time to enter the trades… With a lower barrier to entry than in the past and incredible demand for people to fill these roles, expertise in the trades is a future-proof career.”

To enter a trades profession, you do not need to complete the traditional, four-year college degree. Trades professions typically only mandate a year or two of training, and can be achieved through a career-focused college , university, or trades school. What are these institutions, exactly, and how do they differ? Learn more about trades schools and career colleges below.

What is a trade school?

Trade schools, also known as technical schools or vocational schools , provide practical training related to specialized careers. Unlike traditional colleges and universities, trade schools do not require generalized education courses but instead offer concentrated coursework and experiences related to specific jobs.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, trade schools focus on “ career and technical education .” The classes offered in a trades school are typically very hands-on and directly correlate to a student’s chosen profession. The goal of a trades school education is to prepare students for entry-level careers in their fields. Trade schools are a great option for individuals who know exactly what they want to do in their careers and who do not need a college degree to accomplish their career goals.

However, it’s important to note that trades schools can be limited in their program offerings. The programs offered in trades schools typically include automotive training, HVAC, culinary arts, computer technology, cosmetology, massage therapy, plumbing, electrician training, and entry-level healthcare pathways.

Most trade schools only offer diplomas and certificates, as college degrees are not required for their focal career paths. Furthermore, the credits earned in trade schools typically do not transfer to other academic programs. That means, if you wish to continue your college career down the road, your previously earned trade school education will not count towards your future degree.

Overall, trades schools are great options for those seeking fast workforce entry and career readiness. Trade school programs take between a few months and two years to complete, therefore providing a faster educational track that’s a short time and financial investment (when compared to a four-year college degree). However, there are constraints with a trade school education, including the limited program offerings and growth opportunities available. So, be sure to consider your options carefully.

While trades schools are a great option for many, there are alternatives that can also provide you with career-oriented training and quick entry into a hands-on, in-demand career. Enter: career-focused colleges and universities.

Learn about Goodwin’s career-focused degree and certificate programs.

What is a career-focused college.

Career-focused colleges and universities are postsecondary institutions that provide comprehensive educational experiences for students interested in specialized career paths. These schools focus on providing skills-based training and education to prepare students for careers they love. Students gain a blend of hands-on exercises, in-field training, classroom lectures, and career placement services in a career-focused school. While the goals of these schools are similar, career-focused colleges are different from trades schools in that they offer a broader range of courses and program offerings.

Career-focused colleges offer both technical training (like trades schools) as well as generalized courses that build proficiency in critical thinking, leadership, theory, ethics, and other important job skills. Employers increasingly value these “soft skills” as much as the practical, job-specific skills gained in a trades school.

Unlike a typical liberal arts education, though, career-focused colleges promote hands-on experience and internships in real-world work settings, through programs like in business administration, manufacturing or machining, and healthcare (such as nursing, medical assisting, respiratory therapy, and more).

Career-focused colleges also offer various degree paths , including the options to earn a:

  • Fast-track certificate
  • Two-year associate degree
  • Flexible bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree

With these options, students have the ability to expand their educational horizons, qualify for upper-level careers, or stay the course of a fast-paced, career-focused program that can be completed in just several months. No matter the program you choose, accredited career-focused colleges and universities offer the ability to transfer undergraduate credits to future pursuits, should you decide to earn another degree later in life.

Goodwin University is a career-focused school with a variety of degree and certificate programs available to incoming students. All of our programs are designed to be flexible , allowing you to complete your coursework on your own terms:

Classes are offered online, on-campus, and in a hybrid format Evening and weekend classes are available to accommodate working students Faster degree completion with three academic sessions each year — full-time students have the potential to earn a bachelor’s degree in as few as three years

Additionally, there are many types of financial aid you can receive from a career-focused college like Goodwin University. For example, we offer scholarships, grants, federal loans, work study jobs, and veteran’s educational benefits. An estimated 98 percent of our students receive financial aid and we offer one of the lowest tuition costs among private, non-profit colleges in the state of Connecticut.

Career-focused college vs. trade school: Which is right for you?

If you are goal-oriented and have a career in mind for your future, a trade school or career-focused college can offer the most direct path to employment.

Both trade schools and career-focused colleges are great options for students interested in pursuing a fast-track towards a skilled trades career. Ultimately, the best choice for you will depend on your needs and professional goals. Ask yourself:

  • Which career am I interested in pursuing?
  • Does the school offer my program of study?

Blinken meets with Arab officials to discuss Gaza and postwar plans

Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Arab officials Monday in Saudi Arabia about the war between Israel and Hamas and the difficult issues it has created, from humanitarian aid to hostages. Blinken plans to travel to Jordan and Israel on Tuesday.

After landing in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, shortly after dawn, Blinken met with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the foreign minister of Saudi Arabia, and then with foreign ministers and a top foreign policy adviser from five other Arab nations in the Persian Gulf that, along with Saudi Arabia, form the Gulf Cooperation Council. Prince Faisal was also part of that second meeting. On Monday night Blinken met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The State Department listed the cease-fire and hostage issues first in the summary it released of Blinken’s one-on-one meeting with the prince. The two “discussed ongoing efforts to reach an immediate cease-fire in Gaza that would secure the release of hostages held by Hamas,” the department said.

The two diplomats also talked about greater regional integration and “a pathway to a Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel,” the summary said. That was a reference to negotiations over a broad deal that would involve the United States, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Palestinian representatives agreeing to terms that would result in the creation of a Palestinian state and greater diplomatic recognition for Israel in the region.

Blinken planned to meet with Arab and European officials in a group later Monday to talk about plans for rebuilding the Gaza Strip, even though Israel is still carrying out its war there and has not stepped back from its difficult — and perhaps impossible — goal of fully eradicating Hamas.

Saudi Arabia is hosting a three-day meeting of the World Economic Forum, and top Arab officials, including Blinken’s diplomatic counterparts, are attending the event in Riyadh. The gathering includes senior ministers from Qatar and Egypt, the two Arab mediators in multiple rounds of talks over a potential cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

“The quickest way to bring this to an end is to get to a cease-fire and the release of hostages,” Blinken said in an onstage talk with Borge Brende, president of the World Economic Forum. “Hamas has before it a proposal that is extraordinarily generous on the part of Israel. And at the moment, the only thing standing between the people of Gaza and a cease-fire is Hamas.”

“I’m hopeful they will make the right decision and we can have a fundamental change in the dynamic,” he added.

Blinken and other top aides of President Joe Biden have also been trying to push for a long-term political solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is where the broader deal comes in. In a call meant to pave the way for Blinken’s trip, his seventh to the region since the war began, Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel spoke by phone Sunday afternoon for nearly an hour.

The two leaders discussed “increases in the delivery of humanitarian assistance into Gaza,” according to a White House statement released after the call, and Biden repeated his warning against an Israeli ground assault on Rafah in southern Gaza. He also reviewed with Netanyahu the negotiations over a hostage release.

In their best-case scenario, the Biden administration envisions Saudi Arabia and perhaps a few other Arab nations agreeing to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel. In exchange, Saudi Arabia would receive advanced weapons and security guarantees, including a mutual defense treaty, from the United States and a commitment for U.S. cooperation on a civilian nuclear program in the kingdom.

For its part, Israel would have to commit to a concrete pathway to the founding of a Palestinian nation, with specific deadlines, U.S. and Saudi officials say.

“I think it’s clear that in the absence of a real political horizon for the Palestinians, it’s going to be much harder, if not impossible, to really have a coherent plan for Gaza itself,” Blinken said at the public talk Monday.

Prince Faisal said Sunday that Saudi officials hoped to discuss concrete steps toward creating a Palestinian state during Blinken’s visit to Riyadh. Calling the war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza “a complete failing of the existing political system,” he told a news conference that the kingdom’s government believes that the only solution is “a credible, irreversible pathway to a Palestinian state.”

Before the war started in October, U.S. and Saudi officials were in intense discussions to reach an agreement on the terms of such a proposal. For those negotiators, a big question at the time was what Israel would agree to. Since the war began, the Americans and the Saudis have publicly insisted that Israel must agree to the existence of a Palestinian state.

But Israeli leaders and ordinary citizens have become even more resistant to that idea since the Oct. 7 attacks, in which the Israeli authorities say Hamas and allied gunmen killed about 1,200 people and took about 240 people as hostages. Israel’s retaliatory military offensive has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, most of them civilians, including thousands of children, say officials from the Gaza Health Ministry.

Politics latest: Search for Scotland's next first minister begins after Yousaf resigns

The Scottish National Party is beginning the search for the country's next first minister after a dramatic day in Scottish politics saw Humza Yousaf quit. Former leader John Swinney is an early favourite for the job.

By Jenness Mitchell , Scotland reporter

John Swinney is a name that has kept coming up since Humza Yousaf announced his resignation as SNP leader and Scottish first minister today.

He's received the backing of party heavyweights like Stephen Flynn and Ian Blackford, and was the first to announce he's giving "very careful consideration" to running for the leadership.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Swinney said: "I'm giving very careful consideration to standing to be the leader of the SNP.

"I've been somewhat overwhelmed by the requests that have been made of me to do that, with many, many messages from many colleagues across the party."

There and back again?

Mr Swinney stood down as deputy first minister following Ms Sturgeon's shock resignation in 2023.

The former SNP leader, who resigned from that post in 2004 following poor European Parliament election results, is clearly tempted to once again step into the spotlight following his year on the backbenches.

The MSP for Perthshire North, who was finance secretary under Alex Salmond's government, has the experience to hold the fort following Mr Yousaf's departure.

He ruled himself out of the 2023 leadership race, citing that he had to put his young family first.

Mr Swinney said he's got "lots of things to think about".

He added: "There's the whole question of my family. And I have to make sure that I do the right thing by my family, they are precious to me.

"I have to do the right thing by my party and by my country. So, there's lots to be thought about, and I'll give all of that consideration in the days to come."

Humza Yousaf has quit as Scotland's first minister and leader of the SNP.

We take a look back at how the 39-year-old rose through the ranks to become Scotland's top politician.

Mr Yousaf - the MSP for Glasgow Pollok - was born in the city on 7 April 1985 to a Pakistani father and Kenyan mother.

He was privately educated at Hutchesons' Grammar School in Glasgow and became interested in politics during his youth.

He went on to study the topic at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 2007 with an MA.

During his time at university, he joined the SNP. He was also president of the Muslim Students Association and was involved in the Students' Representative Council.

It was straight to Holyrood for Mr Yousaf, taking a job as a parliamentary assistant to the SNP's Bashir Ahmad - Scotland's first Muslim MSP.

After Mr Ahmad's death two years later, he carried on the role and worked as an assistant for a number of MSPs, including Nicola Sturgeon and the then-first minister Alex Salmond, solidifying his place in the party.

More than half of the asylum seekers allocated for removal to Rwanda cannot be found by the Home Office, according to the government's own impact assessment.

Almost 6,000 people were due to be issued a "Notice of Intent" that their asylum claim was inadmissible, but only just over 2,000 are able to be tracked down.

The Home Office claims in a new document that the government of Rwanda has agreed "in principle" to accept 5,700 asylum seekers from the UK, but admits only 2,143 attend regular check-ins and "can be located for detention".

It is unclear whether the 3,557 missing asylum seekers have gone underground to avoid deportation or are victims of administrative errors caused by moving between different taxpayer-funded accommodations.

What a week in politics - and it's only Tuesday.

It's the morning after Humza Yousaf sensationally announced he was stepping down as Scotland's first minister and SNP leader after little more than a year in the hot seat.

It came as Mr Yousaf faced two votes of no confidence in the Scottish parliament following his decision to terminate the Bute House Agreement with the Scottish Greens.

Mr Yousaf intends to remain in the roles until his successor is announced.

The SNP is now accepting nominations, which will close at noon on Monday 6 May.

Last year's leadership contest to replace former first minister Nicola Sturgeon was bruising for the SNP with then candidates Mr Yousaf, Kate Forbes and Ash Regan trading blows during lively televised debates.

It looks like Ms Forbes is getting ready for round two with a source close to the former finance secretary telling Sky News she is "actively considering" entering the race again.

Meanwhile, John Swinney said he is giving "very careful consideration" to the prospect of throwing his hat into the ring.

The next leader of the SNP could be "crowned... with no contest", the Scottish Conservatives have claimed, after Humza Yousaf stepped down from the role yesterday.

Mr Yousaf - who has been leader and first minister of Scotland for just over a year - announced his resignation after his decision last week to cut power-sharing ties with the Scottish Green Party saw his leadership collapse.

Now the focus is moving on to who will replace him with nominations now open until midday on Monday 6 June.

Former deputy of the party John Swinney appears to be leading the pack.

Mr Swinney - was Nicola Sturgeon's number two between 2014 and 2023 - has yet to confirm he is running for the leadership, telling Sky News he was "giving very careful consideration" to the decision.

But senior figures have already given him their backing, with the SNP's Westminster leader Stephen Flynn telling Sky News: "Serious times demand serious politics and serious people, and the best person to take that forward now for the Scottish Nationalist Party is John Swinney."

Welcome back to the Politics Hub on Tuesday 30 April.

Here's what's happening today:

  • The Scottish National Party is beginning the search for a new leader after a dramatic day in Scottish politics that saw Humza Yousaf announce his resignation as first minister;
  • John Swinney, a former SNP leader and deputy first minister, has said he is giving "very careful consideration" to running;
  • Hundreds of wrongfully convicted subpostmasters are a step closer to "hard-won exoneration" after MPs backed a change in the law;
  • Thousands of asylum seekers identified by the Home Office for deportation for Rwanda are not reporting to the department, a government document suggests.

We'll be discussing all of this and more with:

  • Health Secretary Victoria Atkins , at 7.20am;

Thanks for joining us for what has been a very significant day in Scottish politics - as we run up to local elections taking place across the UK on Thursday.

Here's what you need to know:

We'll be back from 6am with all the latest.

By Daniel Dunford , senior data journalist

There might not be a general election just yet, but there are important votes that will define how the areas around us are run for the next four years.

See what's happening where you are here:

Thursday's local elections have been pencilled in as a day of peril for Rishi Sunak for so long, it's hard to remember when Tory turbulence - and maybe even a leadership challenge - was not expected after 2 May.

Most council seats up for election were last contested in 2021, the high watermark of Boris Johnson's political prowess, when the Tories were benefiting from a vaccine bounce.

Since then, the party has plunged in the polls after ploughing through two prime ministerial downfalls.

But in the Politics At Jack And Sam's podcast, Politico UK editor Jack Blanchard and I explore whether it might be Labour who have the harder job to do if they don't clean up some of the highest profile races, with Tories winning in long-time Labour areas.

Thursday's local elections see 107 councils, 10 high-profile metro mayors and a parliamentary by-election in Blackpool South.

Unusually, both Tories and Labour are broadly setting their expectations in the same place and, by also studying the work of Sky analyst Professor Michael Thrasher, we've been working out what might happen.

Scotland's First Minister Humza Yousaf has resigned – days after he cut the SNP's powersharing deal with the Scottish Greens.

It followed a bitter row over the SNP's climbdown on climate targets as he said the agreement between the parties had "served its purpose".

As a result, his former Green allies teamed up with the Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats to get behind two no-confidence motions, one in himself as leader of Scotland and another regarding the entire Scottish government.

Now attention turns to another SNP leadership contest and what the divisions in Scottish politics could mean for the future of the independence campaign.

On the Sky News Daily , Matt Barbet speaks to Paul Hutcheon, political editor of the Daily Record, and Shona Craven, from The National, about how the SNP can move on after Mr Yousaf's resignation.

Plus, Connor Gillies , our Scotland correspondent , explains how the leadership election will unfold.
