The Rolling Stones announce tour dates for 2024 across North America

The Rolling Stones perform in Solna, Sweden.

Last month, The Rolling Stones released  “Hackney Diamonds,”  their first album of original material in 18 years.

Tuesday, the legendary English band announced they’re taking it on the road.

Starting on April 28 in Houston and concluding in Santa Clara, California, on July 17, the Stones will make their way across the U.S. and Canada.

The tour hits 16 major cities, including New Orleans, Las Vegas, Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles and Vancouver, British Columbia.

Fans can expect to experience the Stones’ most popular hits as well as new tracks from “Hackney Diamonds.”

The Stones last performed across the U.S. in 2021 for their No Filter tour, marking the first time the band had toured without drummer Charlie Watts since 1963. Watts, the self-effacing and unshakeable Rolling Stones drummer who helped anchor one of rock’s greatest rhythm sections,  died in August 2021. He was 80.

Tickets for the Stones’ North American Hackney Diamonds tour go on sale on Dec. 1.

The Rolling Stones Announce ‘Hackney Diamonds’ North American Stadium Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

The Rolling Stones are hitting stadiums across North America in 2024 to celebrate the release of their new album, Hackney Diamonds . The 16-city tour (which includes a headlining slot at Jazz Fest in New Orleans) kicks off April 28 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, and wraps up July 17 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Ticket sales begin December 1 at 10:00 am.

Hackney Diamonds is the first Rolling Stones album of new material since 2005’s A Bigger Bang . Produced by Andrew Watt and featuring guest appearances by Paul McCartney, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Lady Gaga, the album was met with near-universal acclaim. “A collection of bangers (old-school division) that nobody in their right mind had a right to expect in 2023,” Rolling Stone ’s David Browne wrote, “Hackney Diamonds isn’t just another new Stones album, but a vibrant and cohesive record — the first Stones album in ages you’ll want to crank more than once before filing away.”

Rolling Stones Announce 2024 North American Tour

The Rolling Stones will tour North America next year. Opening night is April 28 in Houston.

This is the first time the band will be performing stateside in over two years. They resumed touring in September 2021 after the death of Charlie Watts in August. Those were their first-ever dates without the band's co-founding drummer.

You can view a complete list of dates below.

Steve Jordan, a longtime member of Keith Richards ' X-Pensive Winos band, served as his replacement. Prior to that, some fans had speculated about whether the Rolling Stones would continue performing at all.

"Some people said, 'Oh, well, Charlie, died. He should have not done the tour and stopped,'" Mick Jagger told  Apple Music 1 after the 2021 U.S. No Filter tour launched, "and then other people would think, 'Well...,' But the thing about the Rolling Stones, I think, throughout their career has been their resilience in the face of adversity. And we've had ups and downs — mostly ups, to be honest. We've had adversity, and this was probably one of the most difficult ones."

Richards echoed that sentiment in 2022, as the Stones celebrated their 60th anniversary as a band with concerts in Europe and the U.K. "Sixty years is a hell of a long time. How do you do that?” he told American Songwriter . "I think the most important thing is that the people in the band want to stay together. That helps! We had our ups and downs, of course. But in the end, we always noticed that we are more creative together."

New Music From the Stones

The Rolling Stones recently released a new studio album, titled Hackney Diamonds , their first album of new material since 2005. Two songs feature Watts, while Jordan is featured elsewhere. "It'll be interesting to find out the dynamics now that Steve's in the band," Richards told CBS Sunday Morning . "It's sort of metamorphosing into something else."

The Rolling Stones Announce 2024 Stadium Tour in Support of 'Hackney Diamonds' Album — See the Dates!

The Rolling Stones' upcoming 16-date run marks the U.K. rock band's first U.S. concerts since 2019's No Filter Tour

MARK SELIGER

The Rolling Stones are taking Hackney Diamonds to North America!

On Tuesday, the legendary U.K. rock band announced the Stones Tour '24 Hackney Diamonds, sponsored by AARP, a 16-date run of stadium concerts across the United States and Canada set for next year.

Kicking off April 28 in Houston, the Rolling Stones will perform shows in cities including New Orleans, Las Vegas, Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and more before wrapping on July 17 in Santa Ana, California.

The Stones Tour '24 Hackney Diamonds marks the "Jumpin' Jack Flash" group's first time returning to the U.S. for an official string of concerts since 2019's No Filter Tour — as well as its first since the death of longtime drummer Charlie Watts in August 2021.

Tickets for the upcoming tour go on sale Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. local time, with more information available at the Rolling Stones' website .

Before releasing Hackney Diamonds last month, the band held an intimate concert at club Racket in New York City, where members Mick Jagger , Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood performed songs including such as “Shattered,” “Angry,” “Whole Wide World” and "Jumpin' Jack Flash."

The performance also included the live debut of Hackney Diamonds track "Sweet Sounds of Heaven" with a surprise appearance from Lady Gaga , who provides guest vocals on the song.

The Stones  announced  Hackney Diamonds   at a press event in London earlier this month, where Jagger, Richards and Wood took the stage to talk to  Jimmy Fallon  about the album.

"We wouldn't have put this album out if we didn't really like it," Jagger, 80, said to Fallon. "We must say that we are quite pleased with it. We’re not big-headed but we hope you like it."

In an emotional moment, the trio also touched on what it was like to record the album without Watts. "Ever since Charlie’s gone it’s different, he’s number four," Richards, 79, said. "He’s missing, he’s up there. Of course he's missed incredibly."

The Rolling Stones Really Might Never Stop

During a 19-song set at MetLife Stadium that spanned 60 years, the band tapped into what seems like a bottomless well of rock ’n’ roll energy.

Mick Jagger, dressed in all black with a sequined vest, stands center stage and points out with his left index finger. He is flanked by guitarists Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards, with drummer Steve Jordan behind them all.

By Lindsay Zoladz

Reporting from East Rutherford, N.J.

“This song’s for Manhattan!” Mick Jagger told the crowd on Thursday night at MetLife Stadium, before launching into a punchy rendition of “Shattered,” that agitated ode to late-70s New York City that closes out the band’s 1978 album “Some Girls.” In the ensuing 46 years, the city has changed in some superficial ways but somehow remained essentially the same — much, as they showed throughout an impressively energetic two-hour set, like the Rolling Stones.

The Stones’ first New York-area stadium gig in five years was sponsored, without a hint of irony, by AARP. It was appropriate: At times what transpired onstage felt not just like a rock concert but a display of the evolutionary marvel that is aging in the 21st century. (Albeit aging while wealthy, with every possible technological and medical advantage at one’s disposal. I’ll have whatever vitamins the Stones are taking, please.)

Ronnie Wood, the core group’s baby at age 76, still shreds on the guitar with a grinning, impish verve. Eighty-year-old and eternally cool Keith Richards pairs his bluesy licks with a humble demeanor that seems to say “I can’t believe I’m still here, either.” And then there is Jagger, who turns 81 a few days after the Hackney Diamonds Tour wraps in July. Six decades into his performing career, he is somehow still the indefatigable dynamo he always was, slithering vertically like a charmed snake, chopping the air as if he’s in a kung fu battle against a swarm of unseen mosquitoes, and, when he needs both hands to dance, which is often, nestling the microphone provocatively above the fly of his pants. Sprinting the length of the stage during a rousing “Honky Tonk Women” — the 13th song in the set! — he conjured no other rock star so much as Benjamin Button, as he seemed to become even more energetic as the night went on.

Last year’s “ Hackney Diamonds ” — the Stones’ first album of new material in nearly two decades — was the nominal reason for the tour, but they didn’t linger on it, and the crowd didn’t seem to mind. Across 19 songs, they played only three tunes from the latest release, including two of the best: The taut, growly lead single “Angry” and, for the first part of the encore, the gospel-influenced reverie “Sweet Sounds of Heaven.” Mostly it was a kind of truncated greatest hits collection, capturing the band’s long transformation from reverent students of the blues (Richards’ star turn on the tender “You Got the Silver”) to countercultural soothsayers (a singalong-friendly “Sympathy for the Devil”) to corporate rock behemoth (they opened, of course, with “Start Me Up”).

Jagger, Richards and Wood all still emanate a palpable joy for what they are doing onstage. But those joys also feel noticeably personal and siloed, rarely blending to provide much intra-band chemistry. That is likely a preservation strategy — the surest way to keep a well-oiled machine running and to continue sharing the stage with the same people for half a century or more. But when Jagger ended a charming story about a local diner that had named a sandwich after him (“I’ve never had a [expletive] sandwich named after me! I’m very, very proud”), I did not quite buy his assertion that he, Keith and Ronnie were going to go enjoy one together after the show.

Some of that fractured feeling is likely due to the absence of the great Charlie Watts , the band’s longtime drummer who died in 2021; the Hackney Diamonds Tour is the Stones’ first North American stadium tour without him. His replacement, Steve Jordan, does about as good a job as anyone could — like Watts, he balances a rock drummer’s power with a jazzy agility — and his presence never overwhelms. Though they are surrounded by plenty of talented backing musicians, the staging makes it clear that the Rolling Stones are now a trio.

The night’s breakout star, though, was Chanel Haynes, a backing vocalist who took center stage to sing with Jagger during two of the night’s best performances. Haynes — who played Tina Turner in the West End production of the jukebox musical “Tina” before joining the Stones’ touring band in 2023 — ably filled the shoes of the mighty Merry Clayton on a blazing “Gimme Shelter,” and sat in for Lady Gaga on “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” matching the megawatt intensity of her “Hackney Diamonds” cameo. Though Haynes could be velvety soft when the song called for it, at her most impressive she sang with a low, grumbling hunger that often swelled into ferocity, as if she were taking big, meaty bites out of the songs.

Jagger, for his part, delivered many of his lines in his signature bark: The second song, a somewhat slowed down and blues-ified “Get Off of My Cloud,” was transformed by his almost scat-like delivery. But in fleeting moments — including a few falsetto runs — he showed that a certain tenderness in his tone remains intact.

That was most apparent on a gorgeous rendition of “Wild Horses,” the song that gained inclusion in the set by winning the nightly online “fan vote.” For so much of this show, the Stones effectively proved they could outrun age, irrelevancy and all the other indignities that time brings to mere mortals. But here they settled into something more contemplative, elegiac and vulnerable, and the show was better for it.

At a time when their few remaining peers are wrapping farewell tours and bands that have been together for half as long are running on fumes, the Stones are an anomaly. It’s not that their show is devoid of nostalgia, but it’s not coasting on it either. They don’t look like they did in the ’70s — who does? — but when their sound is gelling they are able to tap into some kind of eternal present. For better or worse, they seem intent to be the last band of their generation standing, to ride rock ’n’ roll all the way to its logical endpoint. Astoundingly, they don’t sound like they’ve reached it yet.

No group embodies classic rock like The Rolling Stones. Over its six-decade career, the legendary band has defined rock ‘n’ roll with fun, energetic music rooted in the blues. Though new music genres come and go, The Rolling Stones’ simple, punchy rock sound has appealed to every new generation.

However, the band didn’t become a phenom overnight. The Rolling Stones started to build its music career before its official debut in 1962. It all began with rhythm guitarist/vocalist and frontman Mick Jagger and lead guitarist Keith Richards. The pair met when they were young while attending primary school together. Eventually, they drifted apart and encountered each other again by chance 10 years later. Thanks to their mutual friend Dick Taylor, Jagger and Richards discovered their collective love of music.

Soon enough, the three joined several bands, shaping their creative talents and honing their instrumental skills. After sparking interest among many local fans and new listeners, the group gained new members like rhythm guitarist Brian Jones, keyboardist Ian Stewart, and drummer Charlie Watts.

When 1962 arrived, Bill Wyman took Dick Taylor’s spot as bassist. The group’s success grew throughout the UK, especially with the help of tracks like “I Wanna Be Your Man” written by The Beatles. Paul McCartney and John Lennon exclusively penned the popular song and let The Rolling Stones elevate its rising reputation. Before releasing its self-titled debut album in 1964, The Rolling Stones landed chart spots in both the UK and U.S. The band was well on its way to becoming a household name.

As The Rolling Stones’ discography grew, so did the band’s popularity. Records like The Rolling Stones No. 2, 12 x 5, and The Rolling Stones, Now! laid a sturdy foundation for a future in music. However, the international smash “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” proved the band was here to stay. It sat comfortably on charts across the globe, including the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Ultimately, it cleared the way for The Rolling Stones’ next studio album, Out of Our Heads.

The Rolling Stones followed up every big hit with even more renewed vigor. It dominated the 60s thanks to numerous studio albums and certified chart-topping singles like “Paint It Black,” Ruby Tuesday,” and “Mother’s Little Helper.” Then, it took over the 70s and 80s with a signature image and sound. The Rolling Stones stayed relevant and influential in the ever-changing music climate. As the band evolved, bandmates rotated in and out, resulting in the induction of newer members such as bassist and guitarist Ronnie Wood.

As rock music changed, The Rolling Stones never lost its spark. Adaptation and evolution were crucial in helping the group keep up with the times. Over the years, it constantly reinvented itself without straying from its original roots: fast-paced, energetic rock ‘n’ roll. The Rolling Stones continued to take over every era, including the current music scene. Its most recent LP Tattoo You hit the stands in 2021 and reminded the world the group was still going strong.

Although it faced many challenges, the band has remained true to loyal listeners and provided stellar shows across the globe. Numerous sold-out tours, live TV performances, and more allow fans to witness Jagger’s eccentric yet boisterous on-stage persona. Backed up by his friends and talented bandmates, the group provides a polished experience for every dedicated concertgoer. The Rolling Stones still tours today, with no signs of stopping.

Live reviews

Sixteen hours after I left my house, and 50 years after forming as a band, The Rolling Stones took the gigantic stage at 9:30pm. The empty seats filled in quickly once Sheeran had taken his leave. At 50,000 strong, it was quite a site to see the crowd on their feet as the Stones kicked off their 3rd performance at Arrowhead Stadium (their first was ’75, their latest was in ’89) with “Start Me Up” from Tattoo You. The song is over 30 years old, but was nothing more than a baby when compared to most of the set list. “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll” and “Tumbling Dice” set the precedent for a show that would include mostly material from before I was born. “Doom And Gloom” was the exception to the rule, but served to prove that even a mediocre song can be more than magnificent in the right hands. If I’m being honest, the main reason I was seeing The Rolling Stones was to check them off my list of legends. I had heard stories, but I couldn’t wrap my head around that fact that a bunch of 70-year-olds could still put on an epic show. Sure, the giant screens and incredible soundsystem and fireworks were to be expected, I even figured they would sound pretty good, but nothing prepared me for how animated they would be. Mick Jagger was a diva less than half his age as he strutted his shit up and down the catwalk. Wardrobe changes, grabbing phones from the crowd to take selfies, reminiscing about things that happened back in ’74…he was on point the entire night. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2015/07/01/the-rolling-stones-arrowhead-stadium-06-27-15/#sthash.hANemdD3.dpuf

"I know it's only Rock and Roll but I like it". The Rolling Stones "live in concert" is an experience not to be missed. From the moment, Mick, Keith and the rest of Stones hit the stage until the final note of the encore - any room - no matter what size - will be filled with an energy level that is unparalleled!

No two concerts are ever the same when it comes to the "Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the world". If you have not yet seen the Rolling Stones I encourage you to do so. I loved seeing the Rolling Stones when growing up in Toronto - at every possible venue in the Stones "home away from home".

Each tour would feature band rehearsals at places like the Toronto airport hanger or at a local Bayview North Toronto school. Many a Stones tour would kick off in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens, CNE Stadium, Skydome and Air Canada Centre among others. Heck, when Keith Richards was busted in Toronto - he was sentenced to perform a charity concert for the CNIB in Oshawa.

I have most of the Rolling Stones catalogue of music and DVDs and have thoroughly enjoyed the groups who have played in an opening capacity with the Stones. They helped introduce us to Ike and Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, George Thorogood and the Destroyers and the White Stripes among others! You will never go wrong buying a Stones concert ticket. Make sure you do before it is too late.

Hi there. The Rolling Stones in Prague the best show ever. The concert was absolutely amazing, fantastic, super great. The performance of the Rolling stones is in the highest quality, they are the living legend,I love them for ever and wish to all of them the best off everything. Thank you for unforgettable experience. So this was about the show, but I would like to tell you my worst nightmare I also had just before the concert. I bought three tickets from Viagogo office and to my horror I find out that the tickets were not valid and they were not in database. I paid 23.000KC.So to get to the event I've had to buy another three tickets for standing. THERE WAS MORE fans off the Rolling stones with some experience. I don't what to do about the matter. So this was MY best experience and the worst. Yours Luda Horakova Krasicka 53 Prostejov Czech republic .

It doesn't matter where you sit at a Stones show, it's going to be memorable. This was my first time seeing them, much of my family have seen them multiple times. Heinz Field is an ok venue. Being so far back, the sound was just a smidge off but the atmosphere was still awesome. It rained heavily most of the day but by some great fortune, the clouds parted and the weather was perfect right before showtime. The blazed through hit after hit, with fireworks and lights and spectacle. The best thing, however, is how much Mick Jagger moves and his dancing and prancing. The dude is 72 and still has all the energy and charisma he had back in the day. It's insane. I defy anyone who can find a better showman and frontman than Mick Jagger. Keith, Ronnie, Charlie and the backing band were all incendiary. 10/10 would see them again.

It was a wonderful concert! My group and I had so much fun! Although we were not so close to the stage, thanks to the 3 gigantic screens it was possible to enjoy the concert fully. Mick Jagger has so much energy!!! They not only played most of their best songs, but invited Juanes ( one of the most famous Colombian singers to play guitarr and sing one song together with Mick. The public went crazy! At the end also invited the Javeriana Chorus (also Colombian) to sing with the group. Great!

They started the concert with Jumping Jack Flash and then played as second a song picked by the colombian public in the internet. I found that very good.

My group and I flew from Venezuela to Bogotá for the concert

The Rolling Stones rock!!!!!

LOVED IT!!!!

I've seen several live performance by the Stones on TV and while I have been amazed by their energy levels considering their ages, I also have thought at times that their performances were lacking a bit. Boy, was I wrong after seeing them live at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City! Mick Jagger melted my face off with his energy, cockiness (man, does he strut!) and powerful vocals. They were on-point for the entire show, and I thought it was cool that they brought opener Ed Sheeran onstage as well. As a 30-something male, The Rolling Stones have always been on my bucket list, and I'm glad I had a chance to see them in person. I would definitely recommend their show and would go see them again. Hopefully they keep on rocking another 10-15 years!

The doors opened at 4:45pm ( late by 45 mins). Support act ( Richard Ashcroft) didn’t come on till 7pm and played for 45 minutes and they were really good. Stones came on at 8:15pm and played till 10:30. Utterly amazing, Mick Jagger can put on a show! The rest of the guys do look really, really old. I felt for Charlie Watts he looked sore..

However, £5.20 for a can of Tennats lager ( 89p in Morrisons) come on Murrayfield, you made a mental load of money. I’ve never seen so many pissed people at a concert, but enjoying themselves.

Other reviews suggested they set was 22 songs, I counted 19 so don’t know if we were short changed because of the 1030 curfew. Great concert, T shirts £30 come on guys ...

The Rolling Stones concert was absolutely amazing. The singing, the music, the lighting, the fireworks and those large screens were great. They strutted their stuff through all the favourite numbers and some other great songs. Before you go, read the list of items not allowed inside the concert because you will lose them. Handbags larger than A5 size not allowed, including bumbags, cameras and camera bags, to name a few. All in All, everything went very smoothly, everyone loved it and we all had an amazing night, never to be forgotten.

The greatest rock n roll band in the world - No doubt about it. Mick, Keef, Charlie and Ronnie were sensational. From the opening Street Fighting Man to the encores of Gimme Shelter and Satisfaction they were as great as ever. Mick was the imperious frontman, Keith the axe wielding lunatic, Charlie the rock upon which the driving rhythms of Paint it Black are built, Ronnie the joker whose rhythm guitar convinces you the Stones play the devil’s music. Sensational just sensational. It was a privilege to be there.

The Rolling Stones pay tribute to Charlie Watts on 'first-ever tour without him'

ST. LOUIS — The Rolling Stones are touring again, this time without their heartbeat, or at least their backbeat.

The legendary rockers launched their pandemic-delayed "No Filter" tour Sunday at the Dome at America's Center in St. Louis without their drummer of nearly six decades. It was clear from the outset just how much the band members — and the fans — missed Charlie Watts , who died last month at age 80.

Except for a private show in Massachusetts last week, the St. Louis concert was their first since Watts' death.

The show opened with an empty stage and only a drumbeat, with photos of Watts flashing on the video board. After the second song, a rousing rendition of "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll (But I Like It)," Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood came to the front of the stage. Jagger and Richards clasped hands as they thanked fans for the outpouring of support and love for Watts.

Jagger acknowledged it was emotional seeing the photos of Watts.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

"This is our first-ever tour we've ever done without him," Jagger said. "We'll miss Charlie so much, on and off the stage."

Charlie Watts was magic on the drums. These 5 Rolling Stones songs prove it.

Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts dies at 80: Playing the drums was all he ever wanted

The band then dedicated "Tumbling Dice" to Watts.

The tour had been scheduled for 2020 before the coronavirus virtually shut down the touring industry. Signs of the pandemic were everywhere at the show in Missouri, a state hit hard by the virus's delta variant.

The tens of thousands of fans wore masks as required by St. Louis' anti-virus protocol. The Stones themselves appeared in a public service announcement urging anyone with symptoms to stay home. A vaccination site was set up at the dome, with plans for similar sites at each tour stop.

The concert itself featured the same driving beat personified by Watts, thanks to his replacement, Steve Jordan. The drummer may be new to fans but he's hardly new to the Stones — Jordan has performed for years with Richards' side project, X-Pensive Winos, along with many other leading acts.

Still, die-hard fans couldn't help but miss Watts, widely considered one of rock's greatest drummers, even though his real love was jazz. He joined Jagger and Richards in the Rolling Stones in 1963. Wood joined in 1975.

Charlie Watts' best quotes on Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones: 'I don’t actually like touring'

For Laura Jezewski, 62, of Omaha, Nebraska, seeing the Stones without Watts was bittersweet.

"It's really sad," she said. "He's the first of the old Stones to pass away."

The show featured the band's long litany of hits. Jagger hardly looked like a 78-year-old man, strutting around the stage like a man half — or one-third of his age; a constant whirl of motion. His vocals, and the guitar work of Wood and Richards, sounded as good as ever.

After St. Louis, the tour will include stops in Charlotte, North Carolina; Pittsburgh; Nashville, Tennessee; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Tampa, Florida; Dallas; Atlanta; Detroit; and ending in Austin, Texas, on Nov. 20. The band also added new dates in Los Angeles on Oct. 14 and Oct. 17, and a concert in Las Vegas on Nov. 6.

Jezewski and her 60-year-old husband, Brad, brought their 30-year-old daughter, Sarah, to St. Louis for the concert. It was Sarah's first chance to see the Rolling Stones. Her mom and dad have seen them in various places — Ames, Iowa; Boulder, Colorado; Denver; even Wichita, Kansas — dating back to the 1970s.

With the surviving band members well into their 70s, the Jezewskis didn't want to miss this chance.

"If it is their last time — we're here," Brad Jezewski said. "And if there's another tour, we'll be there, too."

Top 10 Songs the Stones Aren’t Playing on Their 2024 Tour

W hen the Rolling Stones consider their set list, some tough decisions have to be made. Of their 400-plus songs, only a handful will make the cut.

As the Stones make their way across North America on their Hackney Diamonds Tour , they’ve been sticking to a pretty consistent set of 18-19 songs, though there have been a few curveballs and tour debuts thrown in. For one thing, there’s new material to be played from the band’s 2023 album Hackney Diamonds . There’s also the Stones’ regular strategy of allowing their audiences one fan-voted song.

READ MORE: How Have the Rolling Stones’ Set Lists Changed Over 60 Years?

The reality is that some beloved classics have taken a back seat on this tour. There’s still time for them — the 2024 tour doesn’t end until July 21 — but in the meantime, we’re taking a look at the top 10 songs the Rolling Stones have not played.

1. “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking”

From: Sticky Fingers (1971)

This list will start off strong with the seven plus minute “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” from 1971’s Sticky Fingers . The Stones had been including this song in their sets quite routinely through the 2000s, with its last appearance being on July 7, 2022 during their Sixty anniversary concert tour. But so far in 2024, we haven’t heard them knocking with this one.

Subscribe to Ultimate Classic Rock on Youtube

2. “Street Fighting Man”

From: Beggars Banquet (1968)

“Street Fighting Man” may be the most surprising exclusion on this list considering it’s presently the Stones’ 13th most played song of their career (via setlist.fm ) with over 600 performances since its release in 1968. The last time the band played it was in August of 2022 in Germany. “Street Fighting Man” was once shunned by U.S. radio stations for its dissident lyrics — ironic, then, that decades later it’s the Stones keeping the song from North American audiences.

3. “Before They Make Me Run”

From: Some Girls (1978)

To be fair, the 2024 tour already has a handful of moments — “Tell Me Straight” from Hackney Diamonds , “Little T&A” and “Happy” — for Keith Richards to sing lead. But one famously Richards-sung number that hasn’t been played is “Before They Make Me Run” from 1978’s Some Girls , which last appeared in a set list during the Stones’ 2021 No Filter Tour .

From: Goats Head Soup (1973)

One thing that’s important to consider when crafting a set list is the balance between high-energy numbers and slower ballads. But on this 2024 tour, the Stones appear to be prioritizing the former and not including very many of the latter. If they decide to change that, one popular option could be “Angie” — the Stones’ 21st most played song — which hasn’t been played since the 2022 tour.

5. “Ruby Tuesday”

From: Between the Buttons (1967)

Goodbye “Ruby Tuesday,” we haven’t heard you live since 2022. To make up for that, the Stones have played a few other songs from their earlier years, like “She’s a Rainbow,” “Out of Time” and, from the same album as “Ruby Tuesday, “Let’s Spend the Night Together.”

6. “Live With Me”

From: Let It Bleed (1969)

For a while in the 2000s, “Live With Me” from 1969’s Let It Bleed was a pretty regular inclusion on the Stones’ set list, making many appearances during their 2002-2003 Licks Tour and their 2005-2007 A Bigger Bang Tour. Then it started to fall away, and its most recent play was at the band’s 2016 Desert Trip concert.

7. “Rip This Joint”

From: Exile on Main St. (1972)

“Rip This Joint” is a bit of a longer shot in terms of potential for inclusion on the 2024 tour, mainly because it’s been over two decades since the Stones played it last in 2003. Also, it would have been a good choice for their New Orleans show with its lyric about the Dixie Queen, but so far, it’s stayed on the back burner.

8. “19th Nervous Breakdown”

From: 1966 Single

During the Stones’ 2021 No Filter Tour and their 2022 Sixty Tour, “19th Nervous Breakdown” was on practically every set list. And before that, it was played heavily during their 1997-98 Bridges to Babylon Tour. But it appears to have been dropped for this trek in favor of other songs…

9. “Waiting on a Friend”

From: Tattoo You (1981)

“Waiting on a Friend” from 1981’s Tattoo You presents a similar problem to the one “Angie” does: inserting a slower number into a set jam-packed with energy. This one has not been heard live since a 2014 concert in Berlin, Germany, so it’s been a full decade. For those Tattoo You lovers, the 2024 set does still include “Start Me Up” and “Little T&A.”

10. “Fool to Cry”

From: Black and Blue (1976)

Not to keep pushing the ballads, but “Fool to Cry” could make an excellent addition to the set list with its easy-to-sing-along-to chorus. This song was played exactly once on both the 2021 and 2022 tours, why not play it once in 2024?

Mick Jagger plays tourist while in Philadelphia for Hackney Diamonds Tour

By Jessica MacAulay

June 18, 2024 / 3:25 PM EDT / CBS Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Did Philly just add another living legend to the city's fan club? Well, you tell us.

While the Rolling Stones were in town last Tuesday for the band's highly anticipated Hackney Diamonds Tour stop at Lincoln Financial Field, Mick Jagger got to see some famous Philly places like Fairmount Park,  Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center and even got to see a hidden gem, the Lombardi Trophy that the Eagles took home in 2018 against the New England Patriots.

The Rolling Stones frontman posted a photo dump from his travels on tour in Philly and Cleveland, where the band performed on Saturday. The collage of photos was simply captioned "Highlights from Philly and Cleveland!"

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mick Jagger (@mickjagger)

Jagger posed in front of the St. George and the Dragon  statue located on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Black Road in West Fairmount Park. The photo is a little piece of home for the English rocker in Philadelphia since St. George is the patron saint of England.

Next, he popped over to Shofuso, a Japanese House and Garden in Fairmount Park. Shofuso thanked Jagger for stopping by in an Instagram post captioned:

"Thank you  @mickjagger  for stopping by Shofuso last week! On behalf of the  @jasgphiladelphia  we hope you enjoyed our house and garden as much as we do. It's a beautiful and tranquil hidden treasure right in the heart of  #Philadelphia ."

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center (@shofuso)

So case in point, Mick Jagger is living proof that rockstars can be tourists. And maybe, just maybe, this rockstar could be an Eagles fan.

AARP Backs Rolling Stones’ Summer Tour

Concerts highlight a season of excitement

Photo illustration of the Rolling Stones on a beach

THE NEWS that AARP would be sponsoring the Rolling Stones’ 2024 American tour struck more than a few outside observers as unusual when it was announced last November.

But it was clear to both sides that it was an opportunity too good to miss.

“When they approached us as tour sponsor, it was a no-brainer; the band’s legendary status, longevity and timeless appeal across generations makes this fun for everyone, whether it’s their first Stones concert or their 50th,” says Martha Boudreau, AARP’s chief communications and marketing officer.

As the tour’s late-April kickoff approaches, the feeling that the collaboration is a great fit continues to build. “On the heels of AARP’s 65th anniversary, it’s a unique opportunity to celebrate the Rolling Stones’ more than 60 years of recording and performing,” Boudreau says. AARP members agreed—buying out a huge batch of tickets offered exclusively to them late last year.

AARP will join the Rolling Stones at all 17 U.S. shows on their North American tour, culminating in Santa Clara, California, on July 17. AARP will have a spot inside the stadium concourses at each show as well as being featured on the big screen before the band plays.

Concertgoers will find AARP’s tour exhibit nestled by merch stands, where, among other things, they can take a humblebrag photo in front of a green screen of tour branding and Rolling Stones imagery.

One thing that makes the AARP sponsorship serendipitous is the connection between music and brain health, a topic explored deeply in the December 2023/January 2024 issue of this magazine. Music, for example, is one of the few established tools for helping people with Alzheimer’s, a disease that affects an estimated 6.7 million Americans over 65. (Find out more about music’s effect on the brain at AARP’s Brain Health center: aarp.org/health/brain-health .)

The band’s lineup has changed through the years, but it’s still anchored by the duo of singer Mick Jagger, 80, and guitarist Keith Richards, 80. And longtime group guitarist Ronnie Wood, 76, will be along. For more about the tour, visit aarp.org/rollingstones2024 .

AARP will bring you more excitement this summer.

• Can’t make the Stones’ tour? AARP will be hosting several free virtual concerts throughout the season. Beyond music, you’ll also find virtual live cooking and fitness classes. To check out this year’s lineup, visit the AARP Virtual Community Center at local.aarp.org/virtual-community-center .

• AARP’s sponsorship of the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) continues through Labor Day. The tour will stop in New York, Southern California and Chicago. The events introduce America’s fastest-growing sport to AARP members and guests. Find out more at aarp.org/pickleball .

• Join us at the movies this summer. AARP’s Movies for Grownups will host free screenings of feel-good classics and fun rom-coms chosen for grownup film lovers. Visit aarp.org/freemovies to find online and in-person screenings near you.
