Thanks to Manavendra & TourMyIndia for helping in planning a good travel itinerary for us. It was a wonderful 9-day trip covering Gangtok - Pelling - Darjeeling in October 2021. The journey started with a sudden challenge due to roadblock

from Bagdogra to Gangtok, but he and his team (driver and hotel staff) ensured that we were taken care during the travel and warm food welcomed us when we reached late night at hotel. Since then, the whole journey was amazing with the entire trip taking care of our comfort, from good hotel selection (amazing view of Kanchenjunga) to courteous drivers; and making sure that all travel destination were covered by us. DAY 2 : Gangtok (Excursion to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir)

After a leisurely breakfast, at around 8 am leave for Tsomgo Lake (12,400 ft/3750 m/3 hrs drive) and Baba Harbhajan Mandir( 13,200 ft/4000 m). The zig-zag road through craggy mountain terrain takes you to Tsomgo Lake. Located at an altitude of 12,400 ft, the lake is enveloped in ethereal beauty and is considered sacred. The lake dons different looks in different seasons. In winters it gets covered in snow while in spring colourful flowers around the lake add life to it. Baba Harbhajan Mandir or the shrine is a must-visit place of Sikkim as it is dedicated to Baba Harbhajan Singh who was a brave Indian soldier. While carrying supplies to a remote post he died near the Nathula Pass in eastern Sikkim due to bad weather condition. After the excursion, we will drive you back to Gangtok. Stay overnight at the hotel. Note: You can also visit Nathula Pass on the same day at an additional cost. Nathula Pass is located at an altitude of 14,140 feet and is one of the highest motorable passes of India. It is one of the oldest trading border posts linking India and Tibet.

DAY 3 : Gangtok (Full day sightseeing tour)

Post breakfast, we will take you for a full day sightseeing tour of Gangtok. You will visit Ganesh Tok which is visited by people since ages and it also offers great views of Kangchenjunga. Enjoy at the Banjhakri waterfall which is a wonderful picnic spot. Then head to the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology to see the rich cultural heritage of Tibetan architecture and Buddhist culture. DAY 4 : Gangtok – Pelling(120 km/5.5 hrs drive)

After breakfast, we will drive you to Pelling. The journey from Gangtok to Pelling is pleasing as you will drive past the gorgeous tea gardens, majestic mountains, and scenic landscape. Pelling is a lovely town located amidst the pine forest. It offers great views of snow-capped mountains and the might Kangchenjunga. It is also a home to age-old monasteries. DAY 5 : Pelling (Full day local sightseeing)

DAY 6 : Gangtok – Pelling (120 km/5.5 hrs drive) via Namchi Char Dham and Samdruptse Statue

Post breakfast set out on a journey to Pelling. It is a picturesque town in west Sikkim dotted with pine trees. The journey to Pelling is as exciting as the destination itself. On your journey, you will drive past aromatic tea gardens, beautiful surroundings, and majestic mountains. On the way our representative will take a diversion leading to Namchi, meaning ‘top of the sky’ where you can catch great views of the mountains and the valley. DAY 3 : Gangtok – Lachung(116 km/6 hrs drive)

It is famous for its lovely waterfalls, glistening streams, and apricot, peach and apple orchids. The Lachung Chu river passes through the middle of the village slicing it into two. His body which was carried by the current two kilometres away was found after three days. There is a belief that water kept at his temple becomes capable of curing different sicknesses. Today is the most adventuresome day. Hence, go light on breakfast. Have a light meal that fills your tummy. Do not overeat as today you are going to Tsomgo Lake Excursion and Baba Mandir. The Tsomgo Lake It is located at a distance of 40 km from the city centre. You’ll have a two hours drive along the beautiful Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary which is home to the blood pheasant and the red panda. The journey to this destination will be full of alpine trees by your side. Situated at an elevation of 12310 feet, it is a 50 feet deep oval-shaped lake. For most of the year, this beauty stays hidden under the snow cover. Many migratory birds and the Brahmini ducks find their shelter at the Tsomgo Lake. Baba Mandir Near to the lake lies the Baba Mandir, a holy site for the locals as well as the tourists. It is also known as Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple and is located between Nathu La Pass and Jelepla pass. The place holds extreme importance for it is a memorial of a 22-year-old soldier, Baba Harbhajan Singh, the “Hero of Nathula”, who according to a legend died while escorting a group of mules carrying supplies to a remote spot. His spirit is believed to be the protector of every soldier being appointed at the inhospitable Himalayan regions. Optional Tour- Nathu La Pass The pass connects Indian Territory of Sikkim with an autonomous region in China. Since it atop the mountain place, you are required to climb a few steps. DAY 4 : Gangtok – Lachen (About 125 Kms / 6 Hrs)

Wake up. Today is the day when you leave for Lachen! Have your breakfast and resort to your high energy levels as ahead lays a 5-6 hours drive to Chungthang which is 96 kms away from Gangtok. Take a halt at Chungthang and have a great lunch. Resume your journey to Lachen that finds itself 35 kms from Chungthang. Lachen falls into the category of the places that make you fall in love with them at first sight. A town hidden from the outer world, cradling between rocks and sterns, it is a wonderland. The eye soothing snow clad mountains brings you few places such as Gurudongmar Lake, Thangu, Chopta Valley, etc. that are quite interesting and are a must visit. Check in to your hotel, have some evening tea and now stroll across the tiny village and explore the untouched beauty of the place. Do visit the Lepcha Village. DAY 5 : Lachen –  Gurudongmar Lake – Chopta Valley  Excursion – Lachung

Have your breakfast and head towards the Gurudongmar Lake, i.e. 55 kms from Lachen. It will take around 2.5-3.5 hours for you to reach there. The drive will be worth these travelling hours! Gurudongmar Lake Take pride as Sikkim has the world’s highest lake, the Gurudongmar Lake in its vicinity. The Lake owes its name to the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Padmasambhava who is also known as Guru Rinpoche. There are claims that the lake has been blessed by the Sikhs spiritual leader, Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the 15th century. Considered sacred by Hindus, Sikhs and the Buddhists, it is located at the height of 17800 ft.
