Shape of My Heart: Sting e l’amore per l’Italia

La forma del cuore di Sting è lo Stivale. Negli anni Sting ha manifestato più volte l’ammirazione nei confronti dell’Italia, tra le tappe più amate dall’artista. Nell’aprile 2020, durante il periodo di lockdown, il cantautore di Shape of My Heart ha voluto far sentire la propria vicinanza al comune di Figline Valdarno (Toscana), paese dove ha una bellissima villa in cui ama passare momenti di spensieratezza.

Mi mancate tutti, mi manca il mio paese preferito, mi manca la mia bella casa in Toscana: sono sicuro che in questo momento terribile molti di voi sono separati da quelli che amano. Come voi sto a casa per tenere la mia famiglia e i miei amici al sicuro, so quanto l’Italia ha sofferto e continua a soffrir e.

Gordon Matthew Sumner, aka Sting, rappresenta uno dei più grandi cantanti e musicisti degli ultimi 50 anni: reduce dagli anni esaltanti reggae-rock come frontman dei Police , ha intrapreso poi una fantastica carriera da solista, spaziando da produzioni raffinate fino al pop, contraddistinto da versatilità e creatività. Brani come Every Breath You Take , Englishman in New York o Message in a Bottle hanno segnato anni di carriera pieni di successo, fra 17 Grammy Awards e quasi 100 milioni di album venduti.

Duets: l’ultimo album di duetti di Sting

Il 19 aprile 2021, Sting ha pubblicato Duets , l’ultimo creativo album di duetti , tra passato e contemporaneità. Una vera e propria celebrazione delle collaborazioni artistiche collezionate durante la lunga carriera del musicista. L’album è disponibile in CD e in una speciale edizione in vinile che contiene le note dell’autore.

L’album contiene i duetti che Sting ha maggiormente amato, come quelli con Eric Clapton ,  Annie Lennox ,  Charles Aznavour , Shaggy , Melody Gardot ,  Gashi  e molti altri. Five years after his unforgettable concert at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, Sting is set to return July 14, 2023, to the Rome Summer Fest for an unmissable installment of his My Songs. Joe Sumner will open the concert.

My Songs is a dynamic and entertaining show that focuses on the most beloved songs written by the artist during his prolific career as a solo artist and frontman of the Police, studded with hits and awards including 17 Grammy Awards. After a sold-out six-night run at the London Palladium, "My Songs" was called "a masterclass" by The Times; "Sting remains an undeniably skilled performer with a golden catalog ."

A musical journey including hits such as "Fields of Gold," "Shape of my Heart," "Roxanne," and "Demolition Man," the concert was described as " a rare treat " by The Telegraph and Sting was praised as " almost unparalleled " from The Guardian with a " sublime pop alchemy ". Fans will also be able to hear "Englishman In New York," "Every Breath You Take," "Message In A Bottle," and many others. During the tour, Sting will play as always accompanied by his band.

Bio e Storia di Sting

Sting, pseudonimo di Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, è un cantautore, polistrumentista e attore britannico, nato a Wallsend, in Inghilterra, il 2 ottobre 1951.

Sting inizia a suonare la chitarra da adolescente e nel 1971 si trasferisce a Londra, dove inizia a esibirsi in piccoli club. Nel 1976, incontra il batterista Stewart Copeland e il chitarrista Henri Padovani, con i quali forma il gruppo rock/pop dei Police. Padovani viene però sostituito quasi subito da Andy Summers, dando vita alla formazione storica.

I Police danno vita a un progetto unico per l’epoca, che mischia reggae e rock, unendovi testi che trattano temi drammatici, come lo stalking (Every breath you take), l’amore disperato impossibile e il suicidio (So Lonely/Can’t stand losing you), la prostituzione (Roxanne). Nel 1985, dopo lo scioglimento dei Police, Sting intraprende una carriera solista di successo, pubblicando album come “The Dream of the Blue Turtles” (con due hit clamorose come Russians e If you love somebody), “Nothing Like the Sun”, “The Soul Cages” e “Ten Summoner’s Tales”.

La sua musica è caratterizzata da un’ampia gamma di influenze, che spaziano dal rock al pop, dal jazz al blues, fino alla musica classica. I suoi testi, spesso impegnati e introspettivi, affrontano temi come l’amore, la politica, la religione e l’ambiente. Sting è un artista poliedrico e versatile, che ha dimostrato le sue capacità anche come attore, recitando in film come “Quadrophenia” (tratto dal classico concept album degli Who), “Radio On” e “Dune”.

Watch Sting begin 2024 tour in Germany with Police hits and deep cuts

The rock veteran kicked off his ‘Sting 3.0’ tour by unearthing songs not performed in decades

Sting has kicked off his ‘Sting 3.0’ tour – which sees him performing in a trio set-up across Europe and the US. The rock veteran performed its first date in Dresden, Germany at the Dresdner Musikfestspiele.

The ‘Sting 3.0’ tour features Sting performing alongside guitarist and longtime collaborator Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas, the latter previously serving as touring drummer for Mumford & Sons .

In Dresden on May 25, the setlist consisted of an almost even split between solo material and songs written and performed with the Police . It began with his former band’s ‘Voice Inside My Head’, performing it for the first time since 2006, as Consequence notes.

Other songs that made a comeback into Sting’s live repertoire include the Police’s ‘Synchronicity II’ (since 2018) and ‘Tea in the Sahara’ (since 2017), along with Sting’s own ‘When the Angels Fall’ (since 1992) and ‘Never Coming Home’ (since 2012).

Alongside these deep cuts were fan favourites like ‘Roxanne’, ‘Desert Rose’, ‘Fields of Gold’, and ‘Every Breath You Take’. See fan footage of that night, along with Sting’s forthcoming tour dates below.

Sting will continue his tour through Europe this week onwards till early August, covering Ireland, Croatia, Slovenia, Budapest, Poland, among others. These dates will see him and his band perform in arenas and festivals.

However, his ‘Sting 3.0’ US tour – which begins there on September 17 – promises performances in far more intimate venues, such as The Fillmore Detroit and Los Angeles’ The Wiltern, alongside co-headlining engagements with Billy Joel . See his full tour itinerary below.

The Police vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sting will continue to tour in 2024 promoting his latest album “The Bridge” (2021) and from September to November he announced the “Sting 3.0” tour, which will have a power trio line-up, featuring the guitarist Dominic Miller and the drummer Chirs Maas.

Sting and Shaggy concert was such a memorable night at The Roundhouse! They played for two hours!! I got the set list in the end and from what they planned, they have changed the last song, which should be Fragile, for Next to You. I sense it was a wise decision as people was more likely to dance than to watch.

I had some good laughs with Shaggy moves and improv, and with Sting playing the part of a prisoner in one particular song.

Other musicians were at their peak, even the guitar player who substituted Dominic, now recovering from surgery.

They distilled a lot of hits, including Love is the 7th Wave, which is so Shaggy in a way.

I am still feeling the positive vibes.

Sting is still incredible in concert! Sting is so freaking talented and I could watch and listen to him all day long! I thought it was funny he was wearing his own Merch. But I wish there was a shirt for the show like the lanyard picture instead. I wasn’t sure about the Shaggy pairing at first but it turned out to be a hit. Shaggy has the most contagious energy and that boy can cardio! The back up singers were surprisingly some of the best talent I have ever seen...they could’ve been headliners too. Every moment was enjoyed and the venue was amazing. KC you didn’t disappoint

Absolutely fantastic! While the Myth is kind of "meh" in terms of operation, it is still a great concert venue (although the stage could use a 1'+ raise) seeing legendary performers in a small venue is worth the price of admission every time! This is how concerts are meant to be and enjoyed. Loved everything about it! Opening the entire show with a Sting solo and closing the same way - CHILLS! Amazing! Please, offer more legends in small venues - we need that!

Sting took to the stage stage in Dresden, Germany on Saturday night to kick off his “Sting 3.0” power trio tour (grab tickets here) , delivering a set of hits and deep cuts.

The “Sting 3.0″ tour sees the former Police frontman joined by guitarist and longtime collaborator Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas. Opening with the first live performance of The Police’s “Voices Inside My Head” since 2006, Sting immediately followed up with the band’s 1979 classic “Message In a Bottle.” From there, the set included more bust-outs, like “When the Angels Fall” (for the first time since 1992) and “Never Coming Home” (for the first time since 2012), as well as solo hits like “Fields of Gold,” and all The Police bops you’d like to hear, like “Every Breath You Take” and “Roxanne.”

Fan-captured footage of the performance show the trio sounding in fine form, filling out the songs’ arrangements with impressive umph. Unsurprisingly, Stings’ bass was the star of the show, as he was given the sonic room to provide counter melodies and booming basslines with impact. Sting and co. will tour Europe through the summer, before coming stateside for a North American leg in September. From there, he’ll play in cities like Toronto, New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more. He’ll also play a few shows with Billy Joel. Additional Italian Shows in Taormina and Turin confirmed...

We are delighted to confirm that two further shows on Sting's My Songs tour have been added in Italy in Taormina and Turin. Sting will perform at Teatro Antico in Taormina on 27 September 2021 and at Pala Alpitour in Turin on 2 April 2022. Tickets will go on pre-sale to Sting.com members on 23 June at 10am and there will also be a Live Nation presale for the Turin show only on 23 June commencing 5pm. Both shows go on general sale 25 June 10. All times local.

El milagro de las Noches del Botánico, el festival donde todos los músicos quieren tocar

¿Qué ha pasado en el Real Jardín Botánico Alfonso XIII de la Complutense para que tanto artistas como público lo tengan marcado en rojo en el calendario? Entorno y capacidad de conexión son las claves del festival más premiado

• Música Noches del Botánico florece con Dylan como primer brote

Al principio, comentan Julio Martí y Ramón Martín, había quien se iba hasta el Jardín Botánico del Paseo del Prado, pensando que el nombre remitía a ese espacio. Pero el tiempo ha puesto las cosas en su lugar y la gente, dicen los directores de Noches del Botánico , ha terminado haciendo suya esta cita en la Universidad Complutense. Y no sólo ellos, también los músicos acaban prendados del festival, que arranca este martes con el concierto de Mitski y que se prolonga hasta el 31 de julio con actuaciones de PJ Harvey, Tom Jones, Queens of the Stone Age, Pretenders, James Blake, Salif Keita más Santiago Auserón, Loreena McKennitt, Take That, Gipsy Kings y Javier Camarena con la Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, entre otros.

Será la bandada de patos que anida en el Real Jardín Botánico Alfonso XIII, serán los conejos que comparten hábitat, serán las dos lunas llenas que cada año iluminan el escenario... O será todo junto. El caso es que Noches del Botánico se ha convertido en una cita que trasciende lo musical. «Esto es más que un show», dice Martín. «La gente viene con la idea de que vamos a pasar un día». La cita, patrocinada por Cervezas Alhambra, se sitúa así en la cima de los eventos 'boutique' que, frente a las masificaciones de los macrofestivales, ofrecen una experiencia diferencial. «Como esto no existe nada en una ciudad tan grande en todo el planeta» , sentencia Martí. «Cada temporada hay cinco o seis artistas que dicen desde el escenario que aquél es l mejor concierto del año o que está en el top tres de la historia de la banda. Ese tipo de halagos», añade. Y resume la chispa para que se produzca la magia: «El público está con el bolo» .

«Aquí entras con otra actitud», amplía su compañero. «Todo es muy positivo. Porque, oye, quieras que no, la naturaleza te tranquiliza. Pero al artista le pasa lo mismo. Cuando vinieron, The Smile estaban con los niños por ahí con los patos , las fuentes... Es que no s les apetecía irse al hotel. Patti Smith lo mismo. No quieren ni ir a cenar a la estrella Michelín ni nada».

Eso produce una cadena que está dando sus frutos, comenta Martí. « Tenemos a artistas que recomiendan artistas y managers que saben lo que tenemos. Eso nos ayuda mucho, sobre todo a la hora de la contratación. Es que no podemos competir con la capacidad de un macrofestival. Pero poco a poco nos vamos haciendo el nicho». Los reconocimientos de todo tipo se acumulan igualmente: el mejor festival de pequeño formato, el más sostenible y comprometido,

Así y todo, Noches del Botánico ha dejado de ser un secreto, gracias al tirón de, por ejemplo, Bob Dylan en la inauguración de la pasada edición. «Hay gente que nos conoce por él y ya llevábamos siete años cuando él vino», apunta Martí. «El año pasado con Dylan probamos nuestro primer test de hacer un show en el que alguna gente tuvo que pagar 200 pavos. Y se vendió en una hora. Es decir, que si nos viene alguna propuesta de un súper artista que quiere actuar en ese tipo de condiciones, le vamos a decir que sí. Lo explico porque siempre puede haber una excepción dentro de un programa y como son tantos días, nos preocupamos por la economía de la gente».

En ese sentido, el codirector de la cita apunta por dónde pueden ir los tiros en el futuro, con nombres como Nick Cave o Sting . De este último apunta: «Como ya estuvo estas navidades en Starlite, no es oportuno hacerlo tan rápido. Pero ese tipo de artista tarde o temprano puede caer aquí».

Pero para que todo esto sea posible, hace falta «mucho esfuerzo», subrayan. «Somos dos empresas familiares, aquí no hay una multinacional detrás, no hay fondos de inversión », recuerda Martín. «Llevamos en esto tiempo y se nota el cariño. Ponemos el máximo». Además, el entorno marca mucho: «Estamos en una universidad y estamos en un jardín botánico, que son elementos vivos. Y no es nada fácil. Esto no es llegar a un local o alquilar un aparcamiento».

Debido a ello el montaje comienza un mes antes, para cuidar al máximo la fauna y flora. « El director del Jardín Botánico nos adora y es recíproco. Si no tuviéramos ese cariño sería imposible» , agradece Martí.

Pero no se trata sólo de no doblar un árbol o amortiguar el ruido de los nidos de patos. «Tendríamos que estar simplemente en lo artístico o lo técnico, en las cuestiones de producción, pero de pronto llegan los exámenes de la EBAU, que cualquier otro promotor pasaría de ellos, pero que a nosotros nos obliga a revisar los horarios , ver cuándo se ponen las pruebas de sonido, porque algunos están en clase con las ventanas abiertas y les damos por saco. O los exámenes que eran en septiembre ahora son en julio...».

Y más: g radas supersilenciosas hechas en Alemania con piezas 'ad hoc' y de las que cuidan cuatro ingenieros teutones, baños nuevos con módulos de agua corriente... «Esto es algo único y diferente», celebran Martí y Martín.
