Tamil Nadu Tourism And Travel Guide

Tamil Nadu, at the southernmost tip of India , is the country’s eleventh largest state and one of the most ancient regions. Archaeological excavations at Attirampakkam, Keezadi and Adichanallur throw up artefacts that carbon dates to prehistoric times. Most of the inscriptions found at the sites are in Tamil, one of the world’s most ancient classical languages spoken in one of the world’s oldest surviving civilizations.

Sangam literature, the Bhakthi movements, the reign of the Pallavas, Cholas and Pandyas established Tamil Nadu as one of the richest in terms of art, architecture, culture and devotion. The Great Living Chola Temples, the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram and World Heritage Sites stand as mute testimony to the skills and craftsmanship of ancient Tamilians.

Tamil Nadu, with the country’s third largest coastline, has great tourism thanks to friendly people, beautiful beaches, heritage and archaeological sites, temples, ragged country sides, sanctuaries as well as theatres and pubs with great music for a vibrant night life. If you would like to visit Tamil Nadu, our travel guide will help you plan a great trip.

On April 19, Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats were contested in the first phase of the general election . The Election Commission later reported a voter turnout of 69.46%, which was nearly 3.5 percentage points lower than the turnout in the 2019 general elections. Initially, a turnout of 72% had been reported, but this figure was later revised.

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Election 2024 Full List of Ministers: This year, voter registration in Andhra Pradesh reached nearly 40 million.

Exit polls released on June 1 predicted a significant victory for the INDIA bloc in Tamil Nadu, led by the DMK. The polls suggested that the DMK-led alliance would replicate its 2019 success, winning 36 out of the 39 seats. Despite expectations of capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments, the AIADMK was forecasted to secure just one seat. The BJP -NDA was projected to gain up to two seats, indicating an increase in its vote share.

Tamil Nadu, Kerala Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 Live Updates: In Kerala, the voting was conducted on April 26, 2024, during the second phase of the Indian General Elections.

MK Stalin posted on X.

Met Thiru @ncbn garu, a longtime friend of Thalaivar Kalaignar, at Delhi Airport . I conveyed my best wishes to him and expressed hope that we will collaborate to strengthen the ties between the brotherly states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh . I am confident that he will play a crucial role in the Union Government, advocating for the southern states and protecting our rights.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, achieved a sweeping victory in the Lok Sabha election , winning all 39 seats in the state and the lone seat in Puducherry. This decisive win dealt a significant blow to the BJP and its state chief, K Annamalai, who led a vigorous campaign in the region.

Despite exit polls predicting significant gains for the BJP in the south, including four seats in Tamil Nadu, the actual poll results showed a resounding impact of the DMK’s campaign led by Stalin. Throughout the campaigns, the 71-year-old leader repeatedly warned that if PM Modi were re-elected, he would change the Constitution and

eliminate reservations. Reacting to the poll victory, Stalin described the anti-Modi sentiment as palpable and called the victory historic, overcoming BJP’s financial influence and misuse of power.

Chief Minister M K Stalin stated on Wednesday that the INDIA bloc will take on the mission of upholding the country’s constitutional principles. He highlighted the significant victory of the DMK and its allies, who won all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry, achieving a ’40 out of 40′ win, which will be instrumental in this effort.

Stalin emphasized that the people have rejected the BJP ‘s ‘communal’ politics, even in Uttar Pradesh , the site of the Ram temple. He also detailed the DMK’s campaign strategy for the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, the results of which were announced on June 4.

In a letter of gratitude to party workers, Stalin expressed that the people have granted the DMK and its allies a spectacular victory, acknowledging the hard work of the cadres for such an outstanding performance.

Since 2019, the DMK has maintained its electoral stronghold in Tamil Nadu, nearing a flawless victory in the state’s Lok Sabha elections. Leading in an impressive 38 out of 39 seats, the ruling coalition’s success is largely credited to Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin’s adept leadership. His skillful management of alliances has been crucial in establishing and sustaining Tamil Nadu’s largest and most cohesive coalition since 2019.

This formidable alliance, led by the DMK, encompasses a wide range of political forces, including the Congress party, Left parties, Dalit organizations, and representatives of minority groups. Stalin’s ability to unite these diverse entities under one banner has proven to be a winning strategy.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK Chief MK Stalin extends his thanks to party workers, colleagues, volunteers, and voters for the 40/40 tally in the Lok Sabha elections.

Congress leader S. Jothimani has asserted that the electoral mandate in Tamil Nadu signals strong support for Rahul Gandhi as the future Prime Minister of India . In an interview with ANI, Jothimani, who secured the Karur Lok Sabha seat for a second term, stated: “The verdict in Tamil Nadu, and in the majority of Indian states, is against Modi. In Tamil Nadu, the INDIA Alliance led by the DMK achieved a landslide victory. This result reflects three key points: it is a vote against BJP and Modi, a vote for good governance in Tamil Nadu, and a vote to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister. These are the three reasons behind Tamil Nadu’s vote.”

The INDIA bloc, under DMK’s leadership, swept all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu in this election . Jothimani emphasized that the country no longer wants Narendra Modi and the BJP.

Following the INDIA bloc’s success in winning 232 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, party leaders are convening in Delhi today to strategize further plans. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin has arrived in the capital for the meeting.

Reacting to the poll victory, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M. K. Stalin stated that the anti-Modi sentiment is evident. He described the victory as historic, overcoming the BJP ‘s financial influence and misuse of power.

DMK candidate Raj Kumar secured a resounding victory over State BJP president K Annamalai in Coimbatore, with a substantial margin. Despite the defeat, Annamalai garnered over four lakh votes, a notable achievement. The margin of defeat stood at 1,18,068 votes, as reported by the EC website.

In response to the outcome, Annamalai expressed gratitude to the constituents for delivering an unprecedented number of votes in Coimbatore’s history for the NDA.

The DMK’s electoral dominance in Tamil Nadu continues unabated since 2019, with the party now on the verge of a near-perfect performance in the state’s Lok Sabha elections. Leading in an astounding 38 out of 39 seats, the ruling coalition’s success is largely attributed to Chief Minister and DMK president M K Stalin’s adept leadership. His skillful management of alliances has been pivotal, having built and maintained Tamil Nadu’s largest and most cohesive coalition since 2019.

This formidable alliance, spearheaded by the DMK, encompasses a broad spectrum of political forces: the Congress party, Left parties, Dalit organizations, and minority group representatives. Stalin’s ability to unite these diverse entities under one banner has proven to be a winning strategy.

Tamil Nadu, with its 39 Lok Sabha seats, holds a vital position in India ‘s parliamentary elections. Voting took place on April 19, 2024, in a single phase. The state has historically shown a high voter turnout, with 72.44% participation in the 2019 elections, reflecting robust political engagement. The outcomes here can significantly influence the national political scenario.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led INDIA alliance is on the verge of making history in Tamil Nadu. Early trends suggest a potential clean sweep, with the alliance leading in all 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state. This dominant performance, if it holds, would represent an overwhelming endorsement of the DMK’s governance and the INDIA bloc’s appeal among Tamil Nadu’s electorate.

In contrast, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is facing a tough battle. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a key NDA ally, initially showed promise by leading in Dharmapuri. However, as counting progressed, even this lead slipped away, leaving the PMK without any potential victories.

Adding to the NDA’s woes, K. Annamalai, the high-profile BJP state president contesting from Coimbatore, continues to trail behind his opponents. Despite his stature within the party and the BJP’s efforts to establish a foothold in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai’s struggle reflects the challenges the national party faces in this southern state.

The Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), a Tamil nationalist party led by Seeman, is making significant inroads in several constituencies across Tamil Nadu. In at least five to eight seats, NTK candidates have surged to third place, outperforming major players like the BJP and AIADMK.

This surprising performance is particularly notable in:

1. Kanyakumari

2. Tirunelveli

3. Thoothukudi

5. Nagapattinam

In these constituencies, NTK’s candidates have not only secured a substantial number of votes but have also pushed established parties like the BJP or AIADMK into fourth position. This strong showing reflects the growing appeal of NTK’s Tamil nationalist agenda among certain sections of the electorate, signaling a shift in the state’s political landscape.

In Tiruchirapalli, Durai Vaiko of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has established a commanding lead. As a key ally of the INDIA bloc, he has garnered an impressive 1,84,451 votes. Meanwhile, the AIADMK candidate is lagging behind in this constituency.

Notable candidates in Tamil Nadu include Kanimozhi from the DMK contesting in Thoothukudi and K Annamalai from the BJP running in Coimbatore. L Murugan, the Union Minister of State, is contesting from the Nilgiris constituency against A Raja of the DMK. These candidates bring significant political experience and influence to their campaigns.

DMK continues to maintain its lead in Tamil Nadu, with Congress ’s Manickam Tagore B overtaking Vijayaprabhakaran V of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), an AIADMK ally. Meanwhile, NDA ally PMK continues to lead in Dharmapuri.

DMK’s Mayilarasan D is leading in Kallakurichi with 22,339 votes, ahead of AIADMK’s R Kumaraguru. In Tirunelveli, Congress ‘s Robert Bruce C is leading with 39,732 votes, surpassing BJP ’s popular candidate Nainar Nagendran, who has left the counting station. Additionally, Thanga Tamilselvan of DMK is leading in Theni with 53,451 votes, ahead of TTV Dhinakaran of AMMK, an NDA ally.

For the first time, BJP has crossed the 10 percent vote share mark in Tamil Nadu, achieving a vote share of 10.21 percent so far, as per PTI.

Thangavel L of AIADMK is trailing in Karur, while Congress ‘s Jothimani, who currently holds the seat, is maintaining the lead, according to News18.

Tamil Nadu’s voter demographics include a mix of urban and rural populations, with significant representation from various communities. Understanding these demographics is crucial for analyzing voting patterns and predicting electoral outcomes.

In Dharmapuri, Sowmiya Anbumani of PMK, an NDA ally, is leading with 15,437 votes. With just over 20% of the votes counted, there is potential for many pockets in the constituency to shift the balance. Both PMK and DMK circles are closely monitoring this intense battle.

DMK continues to lead in Coimbatore, with Ganapati Rajkumar securing 53,580 votes. BJP ‘s Annamalai follows with 41,167 votes, and AIADMK’s Singai Ramachandran has 23,396 votes.

Local issues such as water management, agricultural policies, and infrastructure development significantly influence voting patterns in Tamil Nadu. Candidates’ positions on these issues can sway voter sentiment and determine electoral outcomes.

In Thoothukkudi, DMK candidate Kanimozhi Karunanidhi is leading by 54,781 votes, while AIADMK’s Sivasamy Velumani is trailing.

Tamil Nadu has seen a dominance of regional parties, particularly the DMK and AIADMK, since the 1960s. These parties have played pivotal roles in shaping the state’s political landscape, often influencing national politics through their substantial Lok Sabha representation.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK leads a coalition of eight parties, including the Congress , CPI(M), CPI, and others, contesting across 22 seats. The AIADMK heads an alliance with the DMDK, PMK, and other parties, covering 34 seats. The BJP , contesting 23 seats, has allied with smaller regional parties. These alliances are crucial in shaping the electoral strategies and outcomes.
