We both had the 8oz rump steak for £5.50 offer.the steaks were both cooked exactly as we requested and were very tasty. The staff were all very friendly especially Laura who helped me out explaining how to use the ap. One thing more you must... redgister your car number plate at the bar which the barmaid forgot to mention. Overall good value with good service! More

Ordered good from the bar and waited over 1 hour to be served. We were not told of any delay when ordering. We witnessed many people complaining and some after waiting nearly 2 hours for food asked for refunds. Would not go back to this... place even though food was good value. Ate at the hungry horse in Rayleigh this evening. Pleasantly surprised that you can now order food and drinks at the table. We ran a tab. The service was great, our waitress Patricia was very attentive and the food was delivered very quickly and was... very good. More

We visited today and had a pleasant meal, we cannot complain about the food as this is what you expect for this type of place however what was unacceptable was the lack of awareness of the needs of customers with children who have autism. We... were seated in a corner of the pub with a TV screen, speakers and lots of families who had children with them, small ones and very vocal which us adults may love but some children with autism cannot cope with the noise in the section we were seated in. We asked if we could move and was initially told no. There were other tables bit these allegedly were booked and we couldn't move. It was only after I used the words reasonable adjustment that the lady who was front of house actually started listening. I explained in great detail why they couldn't sit where they were sitting and one option I gave you staff was to put them on a table for six with me sitting on my own somewhere else in the pub. The member of staff said that wouldn't be nice for me, I told her sitting in the corner of the pub with loud noise was unfair on disabled children when we had explained why to her. She then found an area where we had to be split into two tables because of social distancing despite us being the same group and in a social bubble already so there was no need to split us up. All in all as we said the food was ok, we cannot complain however the needs of two disabled children were not met and what should have been a nice meal was spoilt by a meltdown by one of our group which could easily have been avoided if she simply asked us what would be good for us, no adjustments were made, I don't think I need to spell out what law covers this type of behaviour. The food and service today was impeccable. The staff are helpful, friendly and attentive. The food is always well cooked, hot and delicious. The Travellers Joy is welcoming, warm and friendly, providing a relaxing experience during these difficult times.

I decided to go here for a nice hot lunch and was not at all disappointed. When entering you was greeted by the staff with a very welcoming smile. The restaurant felt very warm and welcoming having a very nice and cozy atmosphere perfect for... a nice lunch with the family. The food here was excellent being very hot and fresh providing very good value for money. At the time there was plenty of tables to choose from, all of which were clean and comfortable. One thing to note while coming here is that we noticed that you have to pay for the parking (£3 at the time) However, this will be refunded off your total bill at the bar. In our food reviewing scheme, restaurants are divided into 3 main components; price, service and food. Price was given a 7/10 in our party. Low prices really set the mood at arrival. Huge portions for such reasonable price! I think so. Food to price ratio... was sky high. Moving on to service we gave it a 5/10. At arrival we were told to find a table which we liked as the right table choice really makes a difference for ambience at lunch. A friendly, kind waitress took our order and promptly brought our drinks over. So far I’m thinking WOW! However the exit of the facility really let the establishment down. No goodbye, No how was your meal - I don’t think so. A fellow comrade of mine is a greene king employee and said and I quote “during employee training we were taught to always greet guests with a hello and always part ways with a goodbye” unfortunately this was not upheld. Food is obviously what really makes a nice meal a nice meal and gets people coming back. We gave it a 5/10. This seems bad however our rating is compared to Michelin star - for instance 10 being the poshest of the posh. Therefore a 5/10 for a local establishment should really be appreciated. I ordered the chicken sandwich. Two fillets of Chciken smothered in nacho cheese and then sandwiched between garlic bread slices along with a side of chips. Sauces? I have to say I was disappointed with the Heinz bbq sauce selection - realistically who likes Heinz bbq sauce you know. The food was ok however a little sickly. Suppose that’s my opinion so can’t be held 100% to account. In general food was ok. To conclude, our visit to the travellers joy establishment was a pleasant one. Not spectacular, yet not mediocre. I attended at the Travellers Joy, Rayleigh, Essex as a care worker for a gentleman with learning disabilities. He is an irregular regular of the establishment and visits once in a while. The host who guided us from the door to a table remembered us... from about two weeks prior and also recalled the specific details of his order. Small things make a huge difference. Thankyou. More

Visited here on Thursday and we all had a big plate special and could choose a starter or dessert free. We decided to have two starters and two desserts free, the cheesy garlic bread (o my delicious) and garlic mushrooms, cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding.... Our mains were chicken kebab, 12oz sirloin steak, cod and chips and a salmon mix it up. All our food was very well presented, delicious and delivered by friendly and polite staff. If I’m in the area again I would definitely revisit. More

Very disappointing meal with long waits between courses, needing several promps from us to get tsbles cleared and next course delivered. Expected all 5 meals to be served up together piping hot and appetising. Didn't get any of that with meals served individually with long... periods between visits. The one vegan meal was served ice cold and sent back with apologies from waitress saying she was new, surely it's the kitchen staff job to prepare the plated food for the waitress to serve. Won't be going there again. More

We popped in for a meal, was unsure about the carpark not very clear, we went in and saw another sign about registering car but no other information. Was busy so struggled to find a table, went to order food and drink asked about the... carpark and was told you have 7 minutes to register your car from entering the carpark. It takes us 7 minutes to get out the car as husband is in a wheelchair! So by this point we had been in the car park for about 10/15 minutes! Not clear at all! The number plate register tablet should be by the door when you go in! Not around the bar out of sight! Considering it was busy we got our food pretty quickly. Was good food. Noticed a lot of tables were high up, not very wheelchair friendly, we was lucky to find a low table. Also saw the adult dining area was up steps, didn’t see if there was a ramp the other side. More

Went for our wedding anniversary with the grandchildren. Eat here at least once a week for years. Today's visit was below par. The fish Frier has been out of order for ages so seeing it was up and running my wife and I had fish... and chips it was tastless. We didn't want to make a fuss so we let it go. Our grandchildren wanted us all to share the ultimate candy mania at £6,99. This used to come in a glass dish and looked quite spectacular. When it arrived we couldn't believe what was served. A tub of ice cream with a bit of squirt cream on the top and a couple chocolate fingers on the top. Totally underwhelmed no presentation,and no wow factor like the old dish in the glass bowl.just though why would you bother paying almost £7 for a tub of ice cream, will not be bothering again ! Dirty menu on our table ,so took two from the table next to us , staff came up and put them back without checking them , even though I said about them …..?.., had roast topside . Which was imported COW beef , though ,... badly butchered , and cut like a wedge. One sliced was LMC , which is from the fore quarter, veg is frozen , mash potato was like powder , I complained about the beef and the waiter went. And got some more , which was worse the was on my plate , when I said how bad the beef was , I was told they get lots of complaints about it. But had to order by head office , to serve beef this bad will only cost you in the long run , and if you know about this beef and still serve it , then I sorry to say some one must be taking a back handed , More

It is always a pleasure coming to our lovely local. We just roll-out of bed in our pj's and we are at the pub. The food is divine and drinks reasonably priced. The staff are so friendly and ensure we are comfortable.
