How 1 Twist In Jury Duty Flipped Its Entire Script

I can’t believe that we’re now living in a star trek: ds9 episode, dark matter season 2 potential addressed by joel edgerton & blake crouch: "there's almost too many possibilities".

  • The longform comedy prank show Jury Duty features a robust cast of improv comedy performers.
  • The lead, Ronald Gladden, was the only civilian involved, unaware that he was being pranked.
  • X-Men star James Marsden also appeared in the show, playing a heightened version of himself.

The cast of Jury Duty is one of the most unique collections of performers on a modern television project. The Amazon Freevee comedy show, which premiered on April 7, 2023, was co-created by The Office executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who had also previously collaborated on the show SMILF . The concept of the series was to transform a prank show into a full-on longform comedy, with a loosely scripted parody trial playing out in front of a participant who was unaware that the jury duty in which he was participating was fake.

In order to maintain the ruse at the center of the Jury Duty show , the majority of the stars playing the other jurors and the participants in the trial were played by actors who wouldn't necessarily be recognizable to an average Joe . However, they are largely experienced comedy and improv performers who have other credits under their belts in various comic properties both on the big and small screens. The show also found a way to have a central name participate by having a major Hollywood star portray himself as one of the jurors.

One character was specifically written to make Ronald feel confused and uncomfortable, but his genuine reaction created a big Jury Duty twist.

Ronald Gladden as Himself (Juror #6)

Date of birth: october 1992.

  • Active Since: 2023

Actor: Ronald Gladden, who is from Wallowa, Oregon before moving to San Diego, technically had his big break with the Amazon Freevee series, because he was not an actor before appearing on the show . At the time, he was working in construction and he believed that he was participating in a real documentary about jury duty. While it is unknown if Jury Duty season 2 will ever happen, Gladden will likely follow his success with onscreen roles in other capacities, as he has signed a two-year deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Notable Movie & TV Roles:

Character: In Jury Duty , Ronald Gladden appeared as himself. He was the subject of the show's elaborate prank , believing that he was serving as a real juror on a particularly wacky court case that was being filmed by a documentary crew. The fact that he didn't know the trial was following a script meant that the performers had to improvise new scenes based on his reactions to certain moments.

James Marsden as James Marsden (Juror #14)

Date of birth: september 18, 1973.

  • Active Since: 1993

Actor: James Marsden was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma and, after playing some early teen roles, had his major breakthrough when he starred in the X-Men movies as Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops . He has had multiple other long-running franchise roles over the years, including starring in the Enchanted movies as Prince Edward and the Sonic the Hedgehog movies as Tom Wachowski. Altogether, movies starring James Marsden have collectively earned more than $4.5 billion at the worldwide box office. The star was also nominated for an Emmy for his role in Jury Duty .

Character: In Jury Duty , James Marsden played James Marsden. Unlike Ronald Gladden, who appeared as himself, Marsden was in on the prank and was portraying a fictionalized version of himself, improvising along with the rest of the performers in the cast. The fact that he is a Hollywood actor with major titles under his belt was used as a character detail that found its way into certain key comic moments.

Jury Duty is a comedy/documentary series created for Amazon Freevee that explores the inner workings of the American Judicial system - with a twist. The show follows a unique format where a fake court case is created, with the entire experience controlled from inside and outside of the courtroom, and everyone is in on it except for a single juror. The show explores the fictional case through the perspective of the singular outlying juror.

House of the Dragon

Send a raven and mount your dragon because the Targaryens are back.

“House of the Dragon,” the spinoff of HBO’s fantasy mega hit “Game of Thrones,” is returning for Season 2 on Sunday, June 16. It’s all-out war for the white-haired Targaryens, as Westeros is engulfed in the Dance of Dragons — a bloody civil war from the pages of George R. R. Martin’s novel “Fire and Blood,” on which “House of the Dragon” is based.

In the wake of the Season 1 finale, contentious sides have formed in Westeros: the blacks and the greens. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) had been promised the Iron Throne from her father King Viserys (Paddy Considine), but her succession was usurped by her younger half-brother Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) — his mother, Viserys’ queen and Rhaenyra’s childhood best friend. A bloody, dragon-filled war has now erupted between Rhaenyra’s black faction and Aegon and Alicent’s greens.

Rhaenyra has taken the island of Dragonstone, the Targaryens’ ancestral home, as her base for the blacks. She’s joined there by Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), her husband and uncle; Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), master of ships; Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best), her aunt; Jacaerys Velaryon (Harry Collett), her son; their dragons Syrax, Vermax, Meleys, Caraxes and their council and other allies.

King Aegon rules over Westeros and controls King’s Landing for the greens. He’s advised by his mother Alicent; her father and his hand Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans); his brother Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell); head of the Kingsguard Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel); the manipulative Larys Strong (Matthew Needham); plus their dragons Vhagar and Sunfyre.

See the cast below.

Rhaenyra Targaryen

After the death of her son Lucerys in the Season 1 finale, Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) is in mourning and seeking revenge on the greens – especially Aemond Targaryen, whose massive dragon Vhagar killed Lucerys and his dragon. She rides the yellow dragon Syrax.

Alicent Hightower

tour of duty tv series cast

Dowager Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) is now an advisor to her son, King Aegon II Targaryen, as he sits on the Iron Throne. She has plenty of strategic experience learned from her father, Otto Hightower, and her late husband, King Viserys Targaryen, that will help in the civil war.

Daemon Targaryen

tour of duty tv series cast

Daemon (Matt Smith) is Rhaenyra’s husband, uncle and hot-headed advisor as the Dance of the Dragons inches closer. As a skilled warrior, Daemon will play a crucial role in the war, but he previously had his own ambitions for the Iron Throne. He rides the red dragon Caraxes.

King Aegon II Targaryen

tour of duty tv series cast

Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) is the sixth Targaryen king of Westeros, following the death of his father Viserys. He’ll now lead the Targaryen green forces against his half-sister Rhaenyra’s black army, who calls him an illegitimate king. He rides the golden dragon Sunfyre.

Aemond Targaryen

tour of duty tv series cast

The one-eyed brother to King Aegon II, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) has a target on his back after his massive dragon Vhagar killed Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys in the Season 1 finale. As we saw last season, he’s also got his remaining eye on the Iron Throne if anything were to happen to his brother.

Otto Hightower

tour of duty tv series cast

Alicent’s father Otto (Rhys Ifans) is King Aegon II’s hand, putting him extremely close to Westeros’ highest power. As the Dance of Dragons looms closer, he’ll need to plot to keep the greens alive.

Criston Cole

tour of duty tv series cast

After a brief romance with Rhaenyra in her youth, Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) switched sides and now serves as the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard for Aegon II.

Corlys Velaryon

tour of duty tv series cast

Corlys (Steve Toussaint) is the head of House Velaryon, an ancient seafaring family that boasts the strongest navy in Westeros. He’s one of Rhaenyra’s most powerful council members.

Rhaenys Targaryen

tour of duty tv series cast

Married to Corlys, Rhaenys (Eve Best) is Rhaenyra’s aunt who once sought the Iron Throne herself. Now, she’s a member of the black council and rides her dragon Meleys. In Season 1, Rhaenys and Meleys crashed King Aegon’s coronation by bursting through the sept’s floor from the dragon pit.

Baela and Rhaena Targaryen

tour of duty tv series cast

Baela (Bethany Antonia) and Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) are the daughters of Daemon and the late Laena Velaryon. Despite their age, they play a larger role this season in the Dance of Dragons. Baela rides the small dragon Moondancer

Jacaerys Velaryon

tour of duty tv series cast

Rhaenyra’s eldest son, Jace (Harry Collett), steps up after his brother Lucerys was killed in the Season 1 finale. While Luke traveled to Storm’s End to rally the Baratheons, Jace flew on his dragon Vermax to meet with Cregan Stark in Winterfell to seek their aid.

tour of duty tv series cast

Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) is Daemon’s former mistress and a foreign brothel dancer. Like Larys, she peddles secret information around King’s Landing.

Larys Strong

tour of duty tv series cast

Larys “The Clubfoot” (Matthew Needham) is one of Alicent’s best spies in King’s Landing – but he also has a creepy fetish for her feet, as we saw in Season 1. He’ll stop at nothing to manipulate his way to the top, including orchestrating a fire that killed some of his own relatives.

Helaena Targaryen

tour of duty tv series cast

The wife and sister of King Aegon, Helaena (Phia Saban) often has strange visions of the future, like when she predicted Rhaenys and her dragon would burst from the floorboards during Aegon’s coronation.

Alyn of Hull

tour of duty tv series cast

Alyn (Abubakar Salim), from the Driftmark island Hull, is a skilled sailor who ends up playing an important role in the Dance of Dragons, along with his younger brother Addam.

Cregan Stark

tour of duty tv series cast

Young Cregan (Tom Taylor) is the lord of Winterfell, the home of the Starks. Rhaenyra’s son Jace flies to Winterfell to meet with Cregan to negotiate the Starks’ support in the Targaryen civil war.
