4 Best Keyless RV Door Locks for Better RV Security in 2024

Aaron Richardson

As an avid RVer who’s tested numerous keyless door locks, I understand the importance of security and convenience on the road.

Choosing the best keyless RV door locks is crucial for enhancing your peace of mind while ensuring easy access to your home away from home.

Keyless entry locks not only eliminate the hassle of carrying keys but also provide a higher level of security with features like latch, deadbolt, and customizable entry options.

After personally testing over 30 locks, I’ve found the RVLock RVLv4.0 – Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad to be the best overall due to its robust design, high security, and ease of use.

This product stood out not just for its features but also for its rave reviews from fellow RV enthusiasts.

Based on my experience, the top keyless RV door locks are:

  • RVLock RVLv4.0 – Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad: Best overall for its high security and integrated keypad.
  • MICTUNING RV Keyless Entry Door Lock: Great for families, offering easy access and enhanced security.
  • RUNMIND RV Keyless Door Lock Latch Handle Knob Deadbolt: Ideal for those prioritizing durability and a sleek design.
  • ExGizmo Keyless Entry: A top choice for budget-conscious RVers looking for reliable keyless entry.

IN THIS ARTICLE

1: Best Overall: RVLock RVLv4.0 – Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad

RVLock V4 Key Fob and Keyless Entry Keypad, RV/Motor Home Door Lock Accessories, Upgraded Full Metal Lock

RVLock is the OG in the RV keyless entry. Tagged as “The Original Keyless Solution” for your RV, this setup replaces the entire existing door handle on your RV.

This one jumped out to me as the best overall solution because it’s immediately apparent that the company has designed their product specifically for the RV and camping communities.

You’ll have multiple methods to unlock your RV door with this keyless entry system. The keypad on the door can easily be programmed to the combination of your choice.

It also comes with a wireless key fob and two mechanical keys as backups. The keypad can be programmed for up to 10 key fobs, if that’s necessary for some reason.

With dimensions of 3.75” x 2.75” x 1.5”, this keyless rv door lock replaces most standard RV handles.

The mechanism itself is designed with a hardened steel core to greatly reduce break-in opportunities.

I also like this system’s Quick Lock feature. When you’re leaving your RV, all you have to do is press the lock button to activate the deadbolt.

Things We Like

  • Multiple Unlocking Methods: Keypad, key fob(s), and mechanical keys
  • Easy Install: Fits standard RV handles.
  • Quick Lock Feature: Activate deadbolt with the touch of a button.

Things We Don’t Like

  • Price: A little on the high end for an RV handle replacement.
  • Doesn’t Fit Full Glass Doors: Like the RVLock Compact does!

2: Easiest Installation: MICTUNING RV Keyless Entry Door Lock

MICTUNING Keyless RV Door Lock, Black, Keypad, Anti Collision

What’s apparent when you first read about this system is the fact that it takes only five to 10 minutes to install and you’ll only need a standard Phillips head screwdriver to do it.

You’ll be able to unpackage and install this keyless entry system the same day it arrives.

Then you’ll just need to learn how to program everything to your liking.

With the key fob in hand, you’ll be able to unlock your RV door from up to 20 meters away.

The system fits standard RV handles and boasts an IP65 waterproof rating and UL-94 V2 fire protection rating, so it provides peace of mind that your valuable belongings are secure.

As someone who has lost his fair share of keys in the past, I like that this keyless RV door lock offers multiple methods to unlock your RV.

Programming the keypad is an easy process and you’ll also be able to unlock your door remotely using the included key fob.

Just in case you lose the key fob and forget your combination, it also comes with two keys for mechanical entry.

  • Easy Installation: Requires only a standard Phillips screwdriver.
  • Remote Unlock: Key fob has range up to 20 meters (~60 feet).
  • Waterproof and Fire Resistant: Great level of security for your belongings.
  • Made for Doors With Hinges on the Right Side: Not a universal design.
  • Complex Password Reset: Requires lock to be plugged into power source.

3: Best Budget: RUNMIND Entry Keyless Door Lock Latch Handle Knob Deadbolt

Like many of the best RV keyless entry systems, this one offers various ways to unlock your RV door once it’s installed.

It comes with two mechanical keys so you can still unlock your door the old fashioned way if that’s your preference.

You can also program a custom combination code to unlock the door if you leave your keys inside and there’s a remote key fob you can carry on your person to unlock your RV door from a distance.

The keypad utilizes four AA batteries and the remote control requires a 27A 12-volt battery.

Unlike all keyless RV entry door locks, these batteries are included with the purchase of the product.

  • Price: Secure product at a reasonable price.
  • Unlocking Options: Go mechanical, combination code, or the key fob route.
  • Batteries Included: Not all manufacturers take this extra convenient step.
  • Might Not Fill All RVs: Limited to doors with a thickness of 30 to 40 millimeters.
  • Questionable Reviews: Might be a cheaper, less durable option.

4:  ExGizmo Keyless Entry

Made to replace current RV handles with dimensions of 4.25 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, you should be sure to take accurate measurements before you order this ExGizmo keyless entry system.

It does fit a standard RV handle hole of 3.75” x 2.75” x 1.5”, but the product itself has dimensions of 4.25 inches by 5.5 inches.

The remote key fob that comes with this system allows you to unlock your door from a distance away so that you don’t have to fumble with keys when your hands are full.

It also has a keypad for programming a unique combination code and it comes with a pair of mechanical keys as backups.

The metal manufacturing of this product provides durability and security, and I like that it comes with all the hardware you’ll need to easily mount it in place of your current RV handle.

It’s also one of the lightest systems you’ll find, which has to have some minimal benefit to your RV’s gas mileage, right?!

  • Compact Design: You won’t be adding something bulky to your RV door.
  • Remote Unlock: Open your door from up to 15 meters away.
  • Ha rdware Included: Makes it easy to mount when it arrives.
  • Specific Fit: Make sure you measure the existing dimensions of your handle.
  • Batteries Not Included: Really?! How much extra would it cost you?

How to choose The Best Keyless Door Locks For RVs

Now let’s get into what’s really important when you’re performing a side-by-side comparison of keyless entry door lock for your RV.

This one is, admittedly, a bit tricky because these products are so similar, but I’ve picked out several factors that will help you differentiate your choices.

Types of Keyless Entry

Keyless entries use a variety of methods to unlock your RV door. Most of the best systems will actually include more than one of these methods so that you have options in a pinch.

The keypad entry method requires pre-programming of a unique combination code that only you (and the other people who you’re cool with getting into your RV anytime) know the combination for.

Codes can be re-programmed fairly easily and this is a great method if you’re away from your RV and need someone to stop by and check on it, but you have the keys with you.

This is why keypad entry can be great for allowing one-time access to your RV.

Once you’ve let that person in for whatever the reason, you’ll be able to reprogram your keypad to restrict future access.

2: Wireless

The wireless entry method uses a key fob that you need to have on your person. This method is exactly the same as the wireless unlocking method for cars.

Many RV keyless entries come with a remote key fob that can unlock your RV door from up to 60 feet away.

3: Bluetooth

Some high-end keyless RV lock can sync with your smartphone via Bluetooth.

Instead of worrying about an extra key fob on your already-crowded keychain, you’ll simply be able to unlock your RV door from your phone.

Standard. Traditional. Maybe a little bit boring. But absolutely reliable. All quality keyless entry systems should come with a set of mechanical keys as a backup. Key fobs break.

You forget your keypad combination with everything else on your mind. It’s always good to have a mechanical key when all else fails.

Size and Fitting

Most keyless entries are built to fit a standard RV handle opening. But how do you know if your RV has a standard opening without removing your current door lock and measuring it?

Honestly, that might be your best course of action to ensure buying a keyless RV door lock that’s actually going to fit.

There are some DIY ways around customizing a keyless entry if you happen to buy one that doesn’t fit.

Most of these methods, however, require modifications that can compromise the integrity of the locking system.

Remember that one of your reasons for installing a keyless RV entry door lock is to make your RV more secure.

Spend that little bit of extra time to make sure the RV door lock you’re about to buy will fit the existing cut out in your RV door.

Doing so will also save you a bunch of time and potential headaches when your new product arrives and it’s time for installation.

The fanciest keyless entry systems can even sync to your smartphone so that you can unlock your door with that undersized computer you’re always carrying around in your pocket.

Other access methods include key fobs, combination keypads, and mechanical keys.

While the point of a keyless RV door lock is not to have to keep track of mechanical keys, it’s always good to have them as a backup.

Just because technology can fail (sometimes), I’d be hesitant to buy a entry door lock that didn’t come with mechanical keys, just in case.

Your preference on method of access will play a role in the product you choose.

If you’re like me and sequences of numbers just seem to stick in your head (but you can’t remember family members’ birthdays), you’ll probably use the combination keypad as your primary access method.

If numbers aren’t your strong suit though, this method of access probably shouldn’t be your first choice.

If you travel a lot and you’re worried about losing your RV amongst the rest of the nomadic RV community in the Wal-Mart parking lot, you’ll like the fact that you have a key fob that causes your keyless lock to chirp when you hit the lock or unlock buttons.

Be careful of getting too reliant on key fobs though. Batteries can die and they’re more likely to be rendered useless if you get caught in a sudden downpour and your keys get wet.

This is why it’s always a smart move to keep at least one backup mechanical key on your keychain for emergencies.

While your keyless door lock should provide you with hassle-free entry to your RV 99.9999 percent of the time, it’s always a good rule of thumb to be prepared for the 0.0001 percent!

How much Dose it cost?

Most keyless entries won’t cost you much more than $200, but there can be value in finding a model that fits the “middle of the road” mold.

When you break it down, a keyless door lock should have solid construction, multiple ways to unlock your door, and should fit your RV’s current handle opening.

There are certainly other bells and whistles that I recognize might be important to your lifestyle, but make sure not to compromise security for Bluetooth connectivity (just one example!).

Your budget is your budget but, from my experience, a solid keyless entry system can be had for somewhere between $100 and $200.

I wish I could just name a couple of brands that you can trust to make a great keyless door lock.

Unfortunately, the right brand for you might not be the right brand for me. However, brands build certain reputations for a reason.

Take some time to look through the reviews of each keyless RV door lock you’re interested in before you buy.

There’s a lot that can be learned from reading about what other people have experienced with the product. You can compare your RV type and size with theirs.

You can see how easy (or difficult) their installation process was. The list goes on and on.

When it comes to finding a reliable keyless door lock brand, trust what you can learn from online product reviews.

So, Which Is Best keyless rV entry door locks For You?

The prices on these RV keyless entry systems really aren’t all that different.

When you compare the products side-by-side, you might also struggle to find a clear cut winner.

For products like these, this is where I recommend tapping into consumer reviews.

It can be really helpful to read about others’ experiences installing and using a keyless entry.

I settled on the RVLock V4 as the best overall option because it overwhelmingly had the best rating on Amazon.

When dealing with products that don’t offer a bunch of differentiating features, I tend to trust what others say about each product.

Your choice will largely come down to your level of trust in these reviews and your personal budget to replace your existing door lock.

While I can personally vouch for the old adage, “You get what you pay for,” I think you’ll find that certain lower-priced products mentioned above will still provide the degree of security and convenience that you’re looking for.

Frequently Asked Questions

While I hope I’ve addressed most of your questions above, I recognize that’s not always the case.

So let’s dive deeper into some of the most frequently asked questions about RV keyless entry systems.

Why should I replace my existing door lock?

This answer varies depending on the type of RV you have.

The first obvious reason for replacing an existing door lock pertains to owners of older RVs.

Don’t forget that your door lock is also old with an older RV.

When the materials in an old lock begin to break down, it’s more likely to break or be compromised by a break-in attempt.

Another obvious reason to replace your existing lock is if your RV has already been broken into. If it happens once, it can happen again.

Replacing your door lock will not only make your RV more secure, but it will also restore your peace of mind.

How do I install an RV keyless entry?

This can vary slightly from model to model, but most basic steps are the same.

Start by removing the existing door lock and reading the manufacturer’s instructions for your new keyless RV entry door locks.

Keep the door propped open so it can’t accidentally close and make sure the cut-out space where your old lock was matches the dimensions of your new lock.

Next, start by inserting the front unit and ensuring the door’s deadbolt and levers fit properly.

Connect the back panel to the front unit before screwing the back assembly into place.

The final step is returning to the manufacturer’s instructions to program your new keyless entry system.

What if the keyless entry door locks I choose doesn’t fit?

There are two basic options if you’ve already purchased a keyless entry and find it isn’t compatible with your RV door.

The first option is to return the door lock for a refund or exchange it for a product that does fit. This is the best option and the option we recommend.

But for the intrepid DIY individual who trusts his or her handiwork, the second option is to get to customizing.

If the new keyless entry door lock is too small, you could consider finding a thin metal shim to cover the gap.

If it’s too large, you might use a metal grinder to reduce its dimensions.

While we don’t recommend Option #2 because it can compromise the lock’s integrity, it’s certainly an option for a skilled metalworker.

Should I replace my storage bin locks too?

Many RV storage bin locks are pretty universal, just like the lock on your RV door.

This can make older RVs more susceptible to break-ins and there are few things worse than waking up to realize that several of your underneath storage bins have been cleaned out.

You can also install keypad entry locks on your storage bins, just be extra careful to choose weather-resistant locks for this application.

How are keyless locks powered?

Depending on the model, there can be some variety, but most rely on a standard pair of AA batteries.

You’ll know a little bit about the manufacturer’s values by whether or not they include the batteries with your purchase of the keyless lock, but I’ll let you be the judge on that.

As far as the key fobs go, most use smaller 27A 12-volt batteries but, again, there can be some variety depending on the manufacturer.

RV lock: What are the different types of RV locks?

RV locks are devices that secure the doors and windows of recreational vehicles (RVs). There are different types of RV locks depending on the level of security, convenience, and compatibility.

Some of the common types of RV locks are:

  • Keyless entry locks: These locks use a keypad, a remote control, or a smartphone app to unlock the door without a physical key. They are convenient and easy to use but may require batteries or a power source.
  • Deadbolt locks: These locks use a metal bolt that slides into a hole in the door frame to prevent the door from opening. They are sturdy and reliable but may require a lock and unlock key.
  • Cam locks: These locks use a metal rotating cylinder to lock and unlock the door. They are simple and inexpensive but may not provide enough security for some RV owners.
  • Baggage door locks secure the RV’s storage compartments or baggage doors. They can be either keyed or keyless, depending on the preference of the RV owner.

RV lock keyless: What are the benefits of a keyless RV lock?

A keyless RV lock is a device that allows you to unlock and lock your RV door without using a physical key.

Some of the benefits of a keyless RV lock are:

  • Convenience: You don’t have to worry about losing or forgetting your keys or carrying them around. You can enter a code or use a remote control to access your RV.
  • Security: A keyless RV lock can prevent unauthorized entry to your RV, as you can change the code or disable the remote control if needed. You can also set up different user codes, such as family members or guests.
  • Durability: A keyless RV lock can withstand harsh weather conditions and wear and tear better than a traditional lock. You don’t have to worry about rust, corrosion, or jamming.

Latch it RV locks: What are the different types of Latch it RV locks?

Latch it RV locks are devices that secure the doors and compartments of recreational vehicles.

There are different types of Latch it RV locks, such as:

  • Keyless entry locks: These locks use a keypad or remote control to unlock the door without a key. They are convenient and offer more security than traditional locks.
  • Slam latch locks: These locks automatically lock the door when it is closed with a slam. They are easy to use and prevent accidental openings.
  • B aggage door locks: These locks are designed for the storage compartments of RVs. They have a cam lock mechanism that can be opened with a key or a thumb latch.
  • Deadbolt locks: These locks provide extra protection for the main door of the RV. They have a bolt that slides into a hole in the door frame, making it harder to break in.

I would love not to worry about losing my keys any longer.

Now, I might have to create some reminders to help me remember just what I set as the combination code, but that’s a personal problem.

A keyless entry door lock is all about safety and efficiency. It’s one of those RV accessories you’ll install and (hopefully!) never think about again.

But when the time comes, and it prevents a break-in attempt, you’ll sure be glad you invested.

I understand what David is asking. The “first” picture at the top is not the one you reviewed. It looks like it fits a larger rough opening and the four you reviewed are the smaller size.

I am using this RVLock V4 Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad & Fob for my RV. The design is sleek, very masculine, if I may say so. First of all, it is very easy to install. Next, once the lock was put in place, the door doesn’t jam. Finally, it’s so small it actually fits inside my pocket. Also, the coating prevents the elements such as water, sunlight, and dust from degrading the lock itself. I really prefer this product because it still function even if it has a low battery.

I can honestly say that the RVLock V4 is one of the best keyless locks on the market today. It is very easy to install but it keeps the door firmly locked. In addition, I can choose between three unlocking options: a key, a numeric code, and a remote fob. If you are looking for the best RV door lock to help you secure your vehicle, this one will help you realize your goal.

I previously used an RV door lock with a deadbolt that didn’t hold up well to repeated use. However, this Kohree door lock is not the same as the one I previously used. The build quality of this RV lock with deadbolt is excellent.

You are comparing handles that are all actually “knock-off” handles of one brand, RVLock. RVLock is the original keyless handle for RV’s. They may be a few dollars cheaper, but you get what you pay for…

How was latch.it brand not mentioned? It’s a fantastic lock.

Customer Reviews

Bought in 2021 and they are still work great. My only complaint is that the number pads on both of the compact units I bought started cracking after just 1 year. I store my RV out of the sun.

User picture

The lock fit fine and the instructions were complete. However, the lock is mostly plastic and the deadbolt is 1/3 smaller than the original lock. The secews that hold the lock together are all self tapping screws and all go in plastic. It looks good and works fine but not near as strong and the original. I recommend it and long as your just trying to keep the kids or honest criminals out.

User picture

Thanks for leaving that review!

Right now our Compact is more of our entry level handle compared to the V4, which is our more upgraded handle. To help with costs on the Compact, it is currently made of a synthetic compound that is lighter than metal. However it is still very durable and doesn't typically break unless there is some extreme force used. It still is very durable!

If you ever run into any issues with your handle, please reach out! We have a lifetime warranty to always get you taken care of in cases where your handle fails on you or isn't operating properly!

It was great! Zero problems from ordering, shipment and installation. Thanks for a great product!

User picture

Worked good till the main board went out. Main board two times key pad once. Great customer service had no problem getting parts but having to fix it time and time again isn’t fun. My rv sits out side all year and the lock is out of warranty. The key pad is falling apart now. Shock and water proof it would make it way better. Kid slam doors and leave them open.

Thank you for leaving us a review! I apologize that you had some issues about this! Please contact our support team and we would be happy to take care of that for you!

The lock itself works as described and the installation was easy and smooth. However that's where my praise ends. Unfortunately it became very apparent how weak and breakable the lock is as soon as I removed the bolts from the factory lock and removed it. The factory lock was made of solid metal, with actual bolts holding the two pieces together. It was very heavy and strong. The RVLock felt like a flimsy toy and weighs but a fraction of the factory lock. The two pieces are also not held together by bolts with steel threads, but are instead screws that just screw into plastic non-threaded holes. The handle on the inside is flimsy plastic too and when closing the door securely from the inside, it bends and feels like it could break off at any time.

Keyless RV Door Locks: Are They Worth It?

' src=

  • Maintenance, Modifications and Repairs

RVs are factory-made homes on wheels with door and cabinet locks that offer a false sense of security. That’s because professional thieves know that a limited number of keys open the majority of RVs.

This is the result of RV lock manufacturers producing great quantities of the same keys and locks with little variation from RV to RV. Consequently the best thing you can do to protect your belongings is to ditch the factory default locks and install better aftermarket ones.

photo-1

Why keyless RV door locks are a smart choice

Keyless entry locks are an ideal choice not just for home security measures but for convenience. Once you start using a keyless lock you’ll wonder why you waited so long to enjoy the many benefits they offer, such as:

  • Being able to go out on walks or take an all-day excursion without having to worry about your keys
  • Opening the door with or without keys, just by remembering your pre-programmed pass code
  • Feeling secure with the ability to lock the door from the inside with a traditional dead bolt latch
  • Giving you the option to use keys that will lock or unlock it from the outside
  • Using a key fob to secure the door if you’d rather lock and unlock it that way
  • Creating a pass code just for friends who want to stay in your RV while you’re away
  • Changing the pass code if your friends trash your rig

Ask any RVer and you’ll find different opinions on the variety of aftermarket door locks that are available for all types of RVs. Search through iRV2 Discussion Forums using the phrase “keyless entry” and you’ll find helpful input like:

AP Products 013-509 Electric Travel Trailer Lock

Keyless entry door locks are fairly easy to install with a minimal amount of tools and mechanical aptitude. Maintenance is also relatively simple. Some things you can do to keep your lock working well include regularly replacing the key fob batteries and cleaning all points of body frame, door, and lock contacts with cotton swabs and rubbing alcohol.

Here are some well-rated keyless entry locks for RVs that you might want to consider.

5 Best RV Keyless Entry Door Locks For 2022

RVLock RV Keyless Entry

On almost every camping trip, we leave the travel trailer for a bike ride or visit a local attraction. We always lock the trailer, but I am nervous about losing the keys. That is an easy way to ruin the trip. I started looking for a solution and researched the RV keyless entry door locks and best RV locks. Here is what I found.

My 5 Best RV Keyless Entry Door Locks for 2022 are:

  • RVLock V4 Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad & Fob
  • Latch. It Rv Keyless Entry Door Lock
  • Carmtek – RV Keyless Entry Door Lock Latch Handle
  • AP Products 013-509 Electric Travel Trailer Lock
  • RUPSE Zinc Alloy RV Keyless Entry Door Lock

There are lots of keyless RV locks on the market these days. There is also a fairly wide price range between them. The cheapest one we researched was priced at about $100 (that one didn’t make this list.)

The most expensive was around $260 and was specifically for a Class A or Class C. This one also didn’t make my list.

The locks that made my list hit my sweet spot for price, have decent product reviews or offer something unique as a nice feature.

Ultimately, I purchased the RVLock V4 and installed it on my trailer. You can see the install video below. That doesn’t mean that it is the only one you should consider. One of the other four locks on this list might meet your needs better.

1. RVLock V4 Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad & Fob

travel trailer keyless entry

The RVLock V4 Keyless Entry Handle w/Integrated Keypad & Fob is probably the leading contender for most people with travel trailer like mine.

My trailer only has one door, but if you have a floorplan that has two, this is an excellent option because of the way the fobs work

RVLock Pros:

  • Comes with one key fob, and the key fob can control two locks
  • Up to 10 key fobs can control each lock
  • Extra key fobs are available from Amazon , so you can add more if you need them

RVLock Cons:

  • The audible beeps it makes are surprisingly loud
  • No backlit keypad
  • Some negative reviews about the red lock latch breaking off.

Overall, this is the lock I purchased. This lock was in my price range. There was enough sales volume and reviews to make me believe there was a real company behind it.

I’ve also seen forum posts from other RVers that have had good experiences with this product. It seems to work well for them and I think it will for me too.

The installation and programing were a piece of cake. You can watch my install video below.

2. Latch. It Rv Keyless Entry Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

The Latch. It RV lock, or Latch-It RV Lock was a very close runner-up in my selection process. It was a good buy on Amazon .

LatchIt Lock Pros:

  • Was a little cheaper than the RVLock, and included TWO key fobs
  • Possibly more durable than other RV locks as this one is made from 100% metal
  • IP67 waterproofing
  • Backlit keypad for easy use at night
  • They offer a 100% satisfaction refund
  • Lifetime warranty

Latch It RV Locks Cons:

  • While the reviews are generally positive, there just aren’t that many
  • The company’s website is a .org site. That doesn’t help me trust the product.
  • I have never seen this brand before.

I think Latch It RV Lock is a fairly new company. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just something to consider.

When I try to compare the LatchIt RV lock to the RVLock, I think the Latch. It comes out slightly ahead. I felt the RVLock was a little more of a known quantity because I have seen and heard about the product before. I was uncomfortably taking a leap of faith on an unknown product.

If Latch. It continues on its current trend; it could very well take the top spot in 2022.

3. Carmtek – RV Keyless Entry Door Lock Latch Handle

travel trailer keyless entry

I found the Carmtek RV Keyless Entry Door Lock almost every bit as good as the prior two. Check the current price on Amazon . The Carmtek has a sleek look that I think is a little nicer.

Carmtek Pros:

  • Comes with one key fob
  • Solid metal construction
  • IP65 waterproofing
  • Backlit keypad

Carmtek Cons:

  • Some of the negative reviews expressed customer service issues.
  • The Amazon imagery looked a little too like generic stock imagery and made me not trust the company.
  • There are some negative reviews on the key fob

This Carmtek RV lock is clearly a top option. In general, it is pretty similar to the prior two and worth considering. If you wanted a second key fob, Carmtek offers a bundle that comes with two .

4. AP Products 013-509 Electric Travel Trailer Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

AP Products Electric Travel Trailer Lock is my budget pick for the top five. Check the current price on Amazon . While it may not look as nice as the others on this list, it may still meet your needs.

AP Products Pros:

  • Same easy install as more expensive options

AP Products Cons:

  • Does not come with a key fob
  • Reviews list customer service as a major issue

Overall, the RV lock by AP Products is a decent option if you are looking for something a little cheaper than other options on this list. I never found an add-on option for a key fob, so if that is a deal-breaker for you, stick to the other locks on this list.

5. RUPSE Zinc Alloy RV Keyless Entry Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

The RUPSE Zinc Alloy RV Keyless Entry Door Lock is unique on this list. This RV lock is the only option that offers three different color variations. You can choose between black, silver, or gold versions. Check the current price on Amazon here.

RUPSE Pros:

  • Three different attractive colors
  • Includes one key fob

RUPSE Cons:

  • The reviews aren’t horrible, but they don’t overwhelm me
  • Some reviews reference poor instructions and inadequate quality assurance
  • I think it is unlikely the company has any US presence, which is essential if you have warranty issues

Upgrading your RV keyless door lock is a great idea. The added peace of mind of knowing you can access your trailer or RV if you lose a key means a lot to me. I am always worried that one of my twins accidentally locks the door, and there is no easy way in.

Any of these top 5 options are easy to install. If you’re worried about that part of it, you shouldn’t.

Do yourself a favor and upgrade to one of these keyless entry door locks for next season.

Happy camping!

Hi, my name is Andy. I have been camping my whole life. I started camping with my parents as a little kid and remember hanging out around a campfire roasting marshmallows. As I got older, car camping was a regular occurrence. After I got married and started a family, we decided we wanted to share the travel and camping experience with our kids. Out of that experience, this site, GoTogetherGoFar.com, was born.

The Best RV Door Locks to Protect Your Camper Trailer

travel trailer keyless entry

Writen by Tom Hank

Fact checked by Joseph Varney

best rv door lock

RV owners like to camp and travel, which are two of many reasons why they bought their vehicles. However, it is still not ideal to leave your camper, motorhome, or travel trailer unlocked while you are experiencing the great outdoors.

Take note that you will never know what is in store for you while you are outdoors, especially when you are boondocking. Thieves can sneak into your RV when the door is wide open. Otherwise, a wild animal can enter your mobile home without a second thought.

One of the most important items to acquire when it comes to keeping your RV door secure is the best RV door lock. Reliable RV door locks will come with notable features that can give you excellent value for your hard-earned money. Furthermore, you can leave your RV in the parking lot while still having peace of mind.

Still, you should not buy any RV door lock you find sitting on a store shelf. If you want to make the most out of your purchase, you need to think about certain factors, such as:

  • Lock type : Many high security RV door locks can be found in at least one of three main classifications: keyless, traditional, and deadbolt. Each lock category will have its distinct pros and cons.
  • Durability : Perhaps one of the last events that you want to experience is for someone to breach into your RV by breaking the lock. A camper door lock made with high-quality materials should help prevent that event from happening.
  • Ease of installation : Traditional RV locks and deadbolts tend to be quite easy to install. However, keyless RV entry door locks may require more steps in their installation procedures. Consider buying an RV lock that does not give you a tough time in the initial installation process.

Remember, not every RV door lock on the market is the same. So you should keep reading our buying guide for an easier selection process. Meanwhile, here’s a list of the most RV door locks.

Table of Contents

Top 12 RV Door Lock Reviews

1. rvlock rvlminirh-2 key fob entry keypad.

travel trailer keyless entry

Upon reading many keyless RV door lock reviews, I decided to buy this particular model. It is because I found the features and the positive feedback from other users to be quite endearing.

Once the package containing this keyless entry for RV arrived, I opened it quickly. I found and liked that this RV keyless entry system looks and feels quite premium. The hard plastic build and powder-coated finish handled different weather conditions fairly well. Still, I would prefer if the body were metal instead of plastic.

Unlike any low-quality keyless RV door lock, I found that the lock was reasonably easy to install. I was not able to track the time to complete the installation. However, I can safely say that the initial setup process was not complicated.

Furthermore, the product worked perfectly after I completed the assembly. I also liked that the package already has the batteries for the device, so I did not have to take a separate trip to a store.

  • RV keyless door lock with durable powder-coated finish
  • Reasonably easy to install
  • Batteries included in the package
  • Slightly more complicated unlock process, increasing the security of the RV
  • The main body might be more secure if it has a metal construction

2. LATCH.IT ‎ RVL0001 RV Keyless Entry Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

Many motorhome keyless entry locks have a hard plastic build, which is acceptable, especially if the manufacturer wants to keep development costs low. However, this RV keyless entry system does not have a plastic body but a metal one. Therefore, I am pleased to know that this RV door lock should last longer than many competing products.

Aside from this RV door lock’s solid build, I also liked that the installation was reasonably quick. Furthermore, this product is one of the fanciest keyless entry systems I used, thanks to it not giving me problems during the initial setup. Once installed, the programming sprang to life so that I was able to input a new code for locking and opening the vehicle.

Additionally, programming the main unit is reasonably simple to accomplish. I would say that even beginners or non-tech savvy individuals would not have a hard time entering their desired codes, unlike certain low-quality keyless entry systems.

I have one slight nitpick, and that is the key to open the durable locking mechanism. It was tighter than average, which gave me some fear of breaking the key if I applied more force than necessary. However, I was able to solve this issue by using a lock graphite.

  • Durable and long-lasting all-metal build
  • Reasonably quick and easy installation
  • Programming is a fairly straightforward operation
  • Key fob’s operational distance works even at 150 feet away from the main unit
  • The key might be tighter than other locks on the market

3. Kohree RV Entry Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

I used an RV door lock with deadbolt before that did not hold up well to frequent use. But this Kohree door lock is different from the previous model I used. This particular RV lock with deadbolt has a first-rate build quality, whereas many similar models have trouble competing in this category.

Furthermore, I am quite surprised to experience this excellent construction on a reasonably inexpensive option. I would even go as far as to say that this model is one of the least expensive RV door locks I acquired.

While it stayed within the budget-friendly price range, this lock also provided me with a reasonably straightforward installation process. The initial installation was also quite easy, despite the lack of instructions.

The package included 12 3mm screws, and all of them fit well into their respective holes. The mounting screws made the lock’s main unit secure so that it did not budge after the initial assembly.

I also liked that this particular door lock is compatible with many RV doors. A friend wanted to make his camper more secure, so I bought him the same lock model. Thankfully, this lock fits into his RV’s door like a glove.

  • First-rate build quality at a fairly low price point
  • Reasonably easy installation process
  • The screws needed for the installation are included in the package
  • Fits many RV doors
  • No instructions included
  • Keyhole interior might need lubing

4. Carmtek RV Keyless Entry Door Latch

travel trailer keyless entry

At first, I was doing an online search about Carmtek vs RV lock. I was comparing this Carmtek keyless door latch with standard RV door locks to decide if I wanted to proceed with the purchase. After reading many positive reviews about this Carmtek lock, I went through with the transaction and I couldn’t be happier with the experience.

First, the entry door lock features a zinc-alloy frame and a flame-resistant nylon handle. With these features, this product is a great choice for RVers that are looking for a highly durable and long-term security solution (myself included).

Continuing its list of durability-focused features is its dual-core steel construction. I found that this choice of material helped the product withstand harsh weather more than other competing models.

Next, the installation of this lock is reasonably easy. The package came with instructions, and the guidelines are reasonably easy to follow. It only took me a few minutes to complete the job.

Also, this RV keyless system features a built-in keyless lock that can secure the vehicle without a key. Although that can be the main feature of the product, the thing that sets this keyless lock apart from others is that it comes with three different locking and unlocking options. I was able to lock and unlock the door with either the included wireless key fobs, keys, or the keypad on the main unit.

  • Durable zinc-alloy frame with flame-resistant nylon handle
  • Rugged dual-core steel construction can withstand harsh weather
  • It only takes a few minutes to install, instructions included
  • Lock and unlock this product using the remote fob, key, or the keypad
  • A pricey option, which might not be ideal for budget-conscious folks

5. RV Designer T507 Motorhome Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

This particular RV entrance door lock with deadbolt is quite unique, seeing that it is the lovechild of two top-notch companies in the travel trailer items sector. This motorhome door lock is designed by TriMark and RV Designer. This partnership created a product with different dependable features.

For instance, I found that this door lock for travel trailers and motorhomes has a fairly robust build. It feels solid in the hand, thanks to the steel construction. The delivery also came quicker than expected, which I appreciate.

Next, I am quite pleased to see that this door lock is compatible with many RV doors. I tested it out on different campers, including a 2000 Hurricane and a 2015 Thor Palazzo. The lock fits those RVs like a glove. Furthermore, this product does not seem to budge when installed, which is a good sign.

Installation is also a fairly easy task to accomplish. It only took me about 15 minutes to complete the initial setup process. After that, the key slid into the RV deadbolt door lock without giving me signs of obstructions.

  • Made by two known RV lock brands
  • Robust steel construction
  • Has quick delivery
  • Compatible with different RV doors
  • Reasonably easy install process
  • Initial setup might be more challenging than usual for some doors

6. Leisure Locks 43308-987 RV Entry Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

At first, I was a bit skeptical about buying this RV entry door lock. I thought that it was a low-quality product because of the low price. However, my doubts and worries disappeared after experiencing what this model can do first-hand.

First, this door lock is one of the easiest, if not the fastest installation I have experienced from a product of its class. While it took me 10 to 15 minutes to finish installing other RV locks, it only took me 5 minutes for this unit.

I also like its built-in deadbolt. The steel construction on the latch is quite rugged. My experiments to test the deadbolt’s ruggedness returned with fairly positive results. I tried pulling the deadbolt out of the main unit to no avail, and that is a good sign.

Furthermore, I am more than satisfied with its compatibility. Since this lock was easy to install, I removed it temporarily to see if it could fit other doors. To my happy surprise, my assumptions were correct. I was able to fit this lock on other doors, particularly those on vans, horse trailers, and cargo haulers.

  • Found at a fairly low price point
  • Quick and easy installation that only took about 5 minutes to complete
  • Steel latch construction
  • Deadbolt stays put during stress tests
  • Excellent compatibility with other doors
  • The keys might need some adjustments for them to slide in and out of the lock

7. LATCH.IT ‎ LATCH09 RV Door Latch

travel trailer keyless entry

It is always nice to see an all-metal RV door lock or latch, and this product joins the ranks of those models. However, this particular model takes it to the next level by making its parts have an IP67 waterproof rating. Therefore, it can stay under heavy rainfall for hours without the added risk of damaging its parts because of the significant amount of moisture.

Plus, I also liked that this door latch kit already comes with much of the necessary hardware to secure my RV’s door. Some of the items in the package are four mechanical keys, four sturdy screws of different lengths, and an instruction manual.

As for the initial installation process, it did not take me a long time to finish. I timed the install procedure, and it only took me about 10 minutes to complete. Furthermore, I like that the manufacturer included a lifetime warranty with 24/7 online support with this product, in case I found any manufacturing defects during the installation.

This particular door latch is also compatible with different RVs. I was able to try and fit it in different vehicles, including various campers, travel trailers, motorhomes, and fifth wheels.

  • Metal IP67 waterproof-rated shell prevents damage from significant moisture
  • Necessary items for the installation are included in the package
  • Quick and easy installation process
  • Lifetime warranty with 24/7 online support
  • Compatible with different campers, motorhomes, and fifth wheels
  • Only for doors with hinges on the right

8. RISTOW Door Lock for Travel Trailers

travel trailer keyless entry

If there is one way to describe this reliable door lock for RVs, it is that it works. It keeps a fairly straightforward deadbolt design, which means it does not have the extra features that we would usually find in a solid keyless entry system. However, the lack of bells and whistles means that this lock has a budget-friendly price point.

Despite its fairly inexpensive price tag, this door lock for travel trailers has amazing compatibility and versatility. I was able to fit it in different doors, including those on trucks, cargo haulers, horse trailers, and other campers.

Still, I found that the screws were not as compatible as the main unit. In some cases, the included screws were shorter than the required distance to lock the model in place. A quick trip to the hardware store to replace the included screws solved this issue.

Additionally, I liked that this lock’s simple design makes it easy to install and use. Therefore, this unit is great for non-tech-savvy individuals that only want to secure their RVs without thinking about programming codes into security devices. As for the installation, I was able to install this model in less than 10 minutes.

  • Straightforward and uncomplicated lock design
  • Compatibility with other doors like those on trucks and other RVs
  • Fairly inexpensive price tag
  • Installation only takes about 10 minutes to complete
  • Durable zinc shell is corrosion-resistant
  • Included screws might not fit well on certain doors

9. WELLUCK PL0042 RV Entry Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

Another budget-friendly offering I found on the market that does not skimp out on some first-rate features is this entry door lock. This particular unit joins the ranks of budget-friendly RV locks, but it has the construction of a more expensive model.

The shell of this lock for travel trailers and other RVs has a die-cast zinc alloy construction. Furthermore, the entire lock has a metal build, making it resistant to potential harm from oxidation and wear. In my tests, the lock did not budge when I tried pulling on it, giving me great peace of mind.

Moreover, the fit and compatibility of this model are top-notch. I was able to install this unit on other vehicles, such as horse trailers, cargo trailers, and small vans, without it giving me significant problems.

I also liked that I can lock and unlock it from inside my RV. That way, if I accidentally lock myself out of the vehicle, I can ask the person inside the camper to unlock the door through this deadbolt.

  • Budget-friendly RV entry door lock
  • All-metal die-cast zinc alloy build delivers excellent durability
  • Top-notch fit and compatibility across different vehicles
  • Design makes it possible to open from the inside
  • All keys included in the kit are alike
  • It might do better with extra security features

10. YOMILINK ‎ DLOCK-2BLK Upgraded RV Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

I like many features offered by this RV door lock, and one of those likable aspects is its compatibility. I was able to fit this RV door lock upgrade on different campers, provided that the doors on those RVs have an opening of 3.75 x 2.75 x 1.5 inches.

Moreover, the zinc-alloy shell is quite commendable. I did some stress tests on the case, and the product’s construction did not show immediate signs of wear and tear from my pulling.

Plus, I left the lock outdoors for a few days while it soaked under different weather. The durable shell was able to withstand long-term outdoor conditions, especially when exposed to the harsh UV rays from the sun for extended periods.

I should also mention that it is possible to open the deadbolt from the inside. Therefore, if I forgot my keys to my RV, and someone is inside the vehicle, I can instruct the person to open the door from within the automobile.

Last, I liked that this RV door lock comes with an easy-to-follow guide, which makes installation sufficiently easy. It only took me about 15 minutes to set this lock up on the door of the camper.

  • Fits many camper doors, provided they have a 3.75 x 2.75 x 1.5-inch opening
  • Durable zinc-alloy shell is resistant to wear and tear
  • Rugged shell is UV-resistant and can withstand different weather
  • Deadbolt can be opened from the inside
  • Comes with easy-to-follow instructions, making installation easy
  • Some campers might not have the right measurements to fit this lock

11. Elite RV Security ERSW101 Keyless Entry Door Latch

travel trailer keyless entry

It is safe to say that I was hesitant to buy this product at first glance. The expensive price tag caught me off guard. However, upon reading other online RV door lock reviews, I decided to pursue the transaction. Thankfully, many of its features justify the large bump in costs for this model.

First, I like that this keyless RV lock does not promote universal entry. Take note that many traditional RV locks on the market can be opened with the same keys found in other similar products. Instead, this unit from Elite RV allows users to program a numerical code, which people have to press before they can enter my vehicle.

Additionally, the all-metal body is not a laughing matter. It feels rugged in the hands, and it was able to withstand different weather. This is something an RV owner should lock for while shopping for the right door lock. Plus, I was able to install this lock on other campers, particularly to a friend’s fifth wheel.

Speaking of installation, this unit is sufficiently easy to set up. It did not take me more than an hour to finish the initial setup. Moreover, the owner’s manual has easy-to-follow illustrated instructions. It states a website that I can visit, which has a video on how to install the device to an RV door.

  • Secures an RV with a numerical code
  • Durable all-metal body can withstand different weather
  • Top-notch compatibility promotes easy installation to different campers
  • Different guides to help with the installation, including a website
  • More expensive than many competing products
  • The inside lip might need to be slightly larger

12. RecPro BP-12RV RV Entrance Door Lock

travel trailer keyless entry

I found that this RV entrance door lock has first-rate compatibility. Installing this model was reasonably easy on different Class C motorhomes and fifth wheels. In particular, I was able to fit this lock in a 2013 Sunseeker motorhome, among other campers.

I should mention that the package does not come with instructions. Although I found that the installation process is reasonably easy to accomplish, DIY beginners might find it challenging to set up this lock without a guide.

Still, I liked that the lock is quite responsive. I had my fair share of experience of broken door locks not responding when I turn the key. But that is not the case with this model. Turning the key activates the mechanism within milliseconds, allowing quick entry for those that have the master key.

The package also comes with two keys. In turn, I still have a spare in case I lose one of the keys.

  • First-rate compatibility allows installation to different Class C campers
  • Fairly easy to install, specifically for those experienced in installing door locks
  • Responsive system opens within milliseconds after turning the key
  • The package includes a master key and a spare
  • DIY beginners might find it difficult to install due to the lack of a guide
  • An expensive price

RV Door Locks Buying Guide

keyless-rv-door-lock

The different RV door lock systems on the market deliver varying features and traits. Some models have unique characteristics and functionalities that might be absent in other options. Having a good understanding of the different models will help you pick the best one for your RV.

Door locks for motorhomes are usually classified into three main categories, which are:

  • Keyless RV door locks : As the name implies, keyless entry door locks are great options for people who are looking for fairly simple yet secure ways to protect their vehicles. Generally, keyless locks work by programming codes to enter and lock the doors.

Although it is quite convenient to use, this type of RV door lock might be tougher to install than other models.

  • Traditional : This type of lock should be quite similar to the one included in the RV upon its purchase (which has a latch & a handle), especially if you are buying a vehicle brand new. You only need to insert and twist a key in a receptacle to open or secure your RV door with this lock.
  • Deadbolt : A deadbolt lock prevents unauthorized entry to your RV by using a key. Without the said key, a durable deadbolt can be quite challenging to pry open. This option is also quite inexpensive, making it an ideal choice for RV owners on a tight budget.

Additionally, make sure that the lock you purchase is compatible with your vehicle. For instance, you might not be able to use a particular Class A RV entry door lock on a Class C camper.

Durable RV locks tend to have constructions that keep your vehicle secure while parked. Therefore, one of the most important factors to look into when buying an RV door lock is the material. Make sure that the RV door latch you choose has an excellent build quality to prevent thieves from damaging or even destroying it. To ensure the lock you choose performs well in harsh conditions, make sure it has a rugged casing and finish.

Ease of Installation

A good quality lock should also be easy to install. Aside from having the necessary hardware, it also should meet the requirements for your RV door hole cutout.

You will also need to ensure that the lock is working properly upon installation. The item should not also give you a tough time during the initial setup. That way, you can still enjoy your camping trip without being too focused on installing your purchased RV lock or latch.

Finally, consider buying from a trustworthy RV door lock brand. A Carmtek model, an RV lock V4, or a Runmind entry door lock are excellent options.

It is because these companies have been in the RV accessory sector for quite some time. Furthermore, these brands already established a good following of RVers and rig owners who say that these are top-tier businesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

high-security-rv-door-locks--------

Are All RV Door Locks the Same Size?

As it stands, many RVs have built-in universal locks and keys. In other words, your lock can be the same as a neighboring camper. It goes to show that you should replace your RV door lock with more secure options.

How Can I Make my RV Door More Secure?

Aside from changing your vehicle’s door lock, you can also change the direction of your vehicle (don’t back into the camping area so driving away in the RV is harder).

Having a steering wheel lock and a hitch can also help deter thieves from jacking your vehicle and leaving the premises. Also, install motion detectors to reduce the risk of thieves stealing the RV and your other belongings.

How Do I Change the Lock on My RV Door?

Replacing the door lock to your RV tends to depend on the model you have. Still, here are some steps to help you replace a standard RV door latch:

  • Prop the RV door open.
  • Remove the existing latch. Take note that you may have to remove some screws.
  • Install the new latch. Make sure to insert the lock’s front assembly, especially when you are installing a deadbolt.
  • Attach the back assembly and affix the latch with secure screws.
  • If you installed an RV keyless entry, program it before calling it a day.

Can You Put a Deadbolt on an RV Door?

Yes, you can put a deadbolt on the door of an RV, regardless of the model of the vehicle or the type of door. However, you may need to create deadbolt holes if they do not exist yet on your camper, motorhome, or travel trailer.

Why do RV Doors Have Two Locks?

Many RVs have doors with two locks as a safety precaution. You may use the spare key to lock both latches, but only one should open with the master key.

Is an RV Lock the Same With a Latch?

The difference between using an RV lock vs latch it is that the latter will fasten the door. On the other hand, the lock will need a key to open the door. In other words, the latch will help keep the door closed while the lock will secure it.

Now that you are at the end of this guide, you should have a better idea of your best RV door lock. Remember, you need to consider certain factors, such as the type, durability, and brand of the RV lock before making your purchase.

My top-rated choice is the RISTOW Door Lock for Travel Trailers. This unit has a budget-friendly price tag. However, it offers first-rate features that promote excellent value to many RV owners.

An RV keyless entry is an excellent solution that allows you to ditch your keys when you go on an adventure. The pros and cons of this keyless entry method are many, and you likely need to decide what will serve you best, but it is definitely worth the money.

It is not a myth that RV door locks are generally all keyed the same, with fewer variations than car locks. So there is a good chance that your key could open someone else’s lock. Or worse yet – their key can open your locks!

The limited variations allow RV dealerships and manufacturers to use a master key for each brand in cases where an assigned key is lost. Yet, it does make you stop and think about the problems that could pose.

We upgraded the lock on our RV door to a keyless entry, and it was a great option. The RV keyless entry lock let us go for a walk with the dogs, head to the beach, or go for a bike ride without worrying about taking the keys.

Many of these locks also have the ability for multiple entry codes, so you can have your friend or neighbor check to make sure everything is working correctly while you are away or take care of pets while you take a day trip.

Join us to explore the features and benefits of what an RV keyless entry system can do for you.

What is a Keyless RV Lock?

What is a Keyless RV Lock

An RV keyless entry is a door lock that can be locked and unlocked without a traditional physical key. Instead, these devices utilize a keypad that allows users to enter their RV with a pin code they have programmed to the lock.

Some locks come with a key, a keychain fob, or a mobile device app that can be used instead of the key code.

RV security systems can be integrated into some models. Check with your alarm system company for further details.

1. 3 best rv security systems for every category, 2. how to add a small rv safe for your valuables, 3. is rv and travel trailer theft common, 4. are all rv keys the same don’t get ripped off, why should i replace my lock with an rv keyless entry system.

As you read earlier, RV keys have limited variations. RV lock manufacturers keep your motorhome or travel trailer safe in two ways. The first is that they use enough variation, so you’d have to line up thousands of RVs with the same lock brand and try each one.

Also, the RV manufacturers themselves purposefully distribute similarly keyed RVs to different regions of the U.S.

Therefore, a realistic example could be someone from New England with a mid-size travel trailer. Another person from the Southwest with a fifth wheel could have a chance encounter at a campground in Kentucky and not even realize they have the same lock.

Yet, changing your lock to a keyless entry system can make you and the things you value safer. When you’re headed to the campground’s beach, take a hike, or do something else, and you don’t want to bring your keys, RV keyless entry locks let you do that.

Still, consider that most keyless entry systems will have a key, so you can still get in if the keyless entry fails. For us, the whole lock had to be replaced because of a failure in the design. We also had to change batteries a time or two, as well.

Newer models now come without batteries. Instead, they either wire directly into your RV’s electrical or have micro solar panels that power them.

So, consider the positives and negatives of using this type of lock.

The Benefits to Keyless RV Locks

The benefits of a keyless RV lock are numerous. You don’t need your keys when you go for a walk or head to the beach. Some models allow you to program several access codes, which can be easily changed at any time.

You can give a code to a guest or someone watching your RV and later delete or change the code. Assigning guests a different code is an additional security measure that protects your master code. Some systems even work with RV security systems.

The Benefits to Keyless RV Locks

How Do I Install an RV Keyless Entry System?

Keyless RV entry systems are easy to install. The process is similar to installing a regular door lock. If you don’t feel up to the task, you can always have it installed by an RV mobile technician or an RV service center.

The process is as simple:

  • Remove the current lock
  • Ensure your lock fits the space in your RV entry door or make the necessary adjustments
  • Attach the front and back connections
  • Program the code per your instruction manual.

You should check the dimensions of your RV lock space before you buy the RV keyless entry lock.

My husband spent around a half-hour changing out our door lock, but most say it should only take about 10 minutes.

How are RV Keyless Entry Locks Powered?

Keyless RV locks can be powered via batteries or by tapping into the electricity in your RV. However, be aware that batteries die, and there may be times when the powered locks fail.

RV doors have an electrical line running through them for the other electronics. Basically, you’re tapping into that line. Make sure you pull the fuse, unplug from shore power, disconnect the house battery, and detach the engine battery. This will ensure your safety and prevent hurting your rig’s electrical system.

Can I Replace My External Bays with Keyless RV Locks?

You can replace your bays with new tumbler locks but not with electronic ones. If you want the same key for your front door as your bay door locks, make sure you order the locks in a set. See number 5, the MKing Camper Locks below, to learn about what you can purchase as a set.

Can I Replace My External Bays with Keyless RV Locks?

How to Choose the Best RV Keyless Entry Lock

There are several considerations when choosing the best RV keyless entry lock.

  • Does the RV keyless entry lock come with remote control? What are its range and frequency?
  • What is the price? Keyless entry locks are usually between $100-$400.
  • Is the lock low maintenance, waterproof and dustproof?
  • Can the lock system be easily picked open?
  • Is there a lifetime warranty and good customer service? Check reviews before you buy.
  • What about a lock with all-weather protection or one rated for temperature extremes?
  • Does it have a deadbolt for additional security?
  • Can you program multiple PIN numbers for entry?
  • The installation process should be easy and require little or no alterations to your RV door.
  • Is it low profile and aesthetically pleasing?

Details on the RVLibro indicate it will not fit a Class A or Class C RV. Always check the size and style before purchasing.

2. RV Keyless Entry Lock with Biggest Keypad Buttons

RV Keyless Entry Lock System Biggest Keypad Buttons

With the largest keypad buttons, the CarmTek RV Keyless Entry Door Lock is a great accessory to keep you and your stuff safe. With up to 10-digit entry possibilities, this keyless entry door lock also features wireless fobs and physical keys.

Even with the wiring, the installation process is estimated around 10-minutes, making this RV keyless entry system an easy choice. You can program it at the touch of a few buttons. This lock is designed with a heavy-duty steel dual-core for durability.

Make sure you see the fit guide before purchasing and note that this one only fits trailers and RVs with an opening size of 3.75″ W x 2.75″ H x 1.5″ D.

3. Best RV Keyless Entry Door Lock with App

RV Keyless Entry Door Lock with App

The Kohree RV Keyless Entry Lock is backlit, so you can easily see the numbers and safely enter your RV at night. It comes with physical keys and an app for your mobile device that you can use within 60 feet of your RV. The app allows you to program settings and change the password.

This keyless entry is made from a zinc alloy material. The handle is waterproof, and the surface is dust-proof. In addition, you will find that this RV keyless entry lock is easy to clean.

It fits most RV doors with a cutout of 2.75” W x 3.75” H and door thickness from 1.25″ to 1.5″ D. It can be widely applied in travel trailers, teardrop campers, pop-up campers, truck campers, horse trailers, cargo haulers, and more.

4. Best RV Keyless Entry with Backlit Keypad

Best RV Keyless Entry with Backlit Keypad

Check out the BIGTUR Keyless Entry RV Door Lock , which is 100% metal with waterproof technology that can withstand harsh environments. In addition, the backlit keyboard allows the user to easily see buttons at night.

The package comes with clear instructions and can be installed in 5-10 minutes. According to the product information, password programming is a simple operation on the keypad.

5. Best Keyless Entry and Storage Bay Bundle

Best Keyless Entry and Storage Bay Bundle

If you want to have easy and safe entry to your RV and keep your stuff safe, the MKing Camper Lock is great.

The package comes with the keyless entry lock and 2 RV storage locks, 4 RV compartment locks, a physical key, remote control for the entry lock, and high-quality lock plates for the compartments.

The keyless entry lock is a high-quality zinc alloy design and is corrosion-resistant. It is easily installed on your own or with assistance from online video tutorials and guidance services through the company.

The RV Storage Locks cylinder is 5/8″ in diameter and can be easily installed on metal panels or wooden boards up to 3/8″ thick. The keyhole opening has a 0.75″ diameter. It can be used in RV exterior bays, camping locker doors, toolboxes, and desk drawers.

The tubular cam lock key is made of a full zinc alloy and will withstand the test of time. In addition, it is precision polished, electroplated, oxidation resistant, watertight, will not corrode, and holds up against wear and tear.

What’s the Best RV Keyless Entry System for You?

If you think about all the positive things you can get just from changing your door locks to an RV keyless entry style lock, I would say there is no reason not to put this upgrade on your need-to-do list.

Aside from allowing you to access your RV without a key, this type of lock can keep you safer than a standard key lock. The better-quality locks have better tamper-resistant technology, keeping thieves away.

RV keyless entry locks with multiple PIN access allow friends access without giving them your master code. While you are away, you can create a code for them to take care of your pets, turn on your generator, or give access to those staying with you. You can simply erase their guest code if you need to, not recreate your master code.

You will also have peace of mind leaving the keys locked up in your RV as you enjoy the beach, explore the backcountry, or have other adventures with one less thing to pack.

I also found an RV keyless entry easy to install, maintain, and change with a few buttons.

Since these locks only lock the deadbolt via the keypad or FOB, is it really advantageous since now you would only be locking the deadbolt and not the latch when you leave the camper? It seems less secure than locking both the latch and the deadbolt with the key. Do most people only lock the deadbolt usually?

Exceptional article…enough detail to help us select a keyless entry system, yet a fantastic overview of options we have. Well done!

Hi Dr. Sutton, So glad you like the article and the keyless entry options too! Thanks for reading! Mike

Very helpful and knowledgeable. Excellent service, good selection. They had the exact part I needed at a fair price, then gave me hints on installation

While it's just an RV repair and parts shop, it's certainly serving a purpose. We were in the area and needed a part for the travel trailer, shower hose to be exact, and they had one for us to scoop up. The person behind the counter was courteous and seemed to appreciate the business. I was glad they were there and if we are ever back in the area and need parts or service, this is where we will go. I would highly recommend it!

I've been dealing with Moscow RV for several years and have been totally satisfied by their ability to get things done in a timely manner and getting things done correctly the first time. Can handle insurance claims!

Photo of Tami A.

Took my son's camper over because it was damaged. Needed a small storage door replaced and a couple cracks repaired around the storage door. Quoted $500 for repair. Wasn't ready by Memorial weekend and at this point storage door wasn't ordered and they had had the camper for over a month. Son went and picked up and went camping and took it back. Camper was parked on their property with camper door locked and new generator sitting inside. Camper keys were dropped in their lock box. Camper was finally done 4 weeks ago. I went and picked up keys but didn't look in the camper. Son picked up camper to go camping for the 4th and generator was gone. When my husband called to ask them to pay for generator they said they never had the keys to the camper. When he said my wife picked them up then their answer was "I don't know what to tell you". His propane tank cover was also gone. They reported the generator stolen to the Moscow PD. Repair was $1,001.00 because some work had to be done at the body shop. We paid in good faith expecting this to be an honest business. Don't take your RV and park it on their lot. Somebody with access is a theif! Moscow RV should have taken reponsibility since camper was in their care and they had the keys. Never mind it took months to get this small repair done!
