What do you remember about being in your twenties? Maybe it was the best time of your life. Maybe it brought challenges that you had to learn to overcome as you entered adulthood. And if you're in your twenties now, life probably looks a lot different for you than it did for your parents. Meg Jay is a psychologist and author. In her new book, "The Twentysomething Treatment: A Revolutionary Remedy for an Uncertain Age," she explores the way our twenties set up the rest of our lives, and how the uncertainties that come with entering adulthood affect our brain. Scientific Method: The Cicadas Are Coming
What has red eyes, lives underground for years, and screeches all summer long? That would be cicadas. And they're here. And more are coming. For the first time in over two hundred years, billions of cicadas are digging their way up from underground in a rare biological occurrence. Scientists are calling it a double brood emergence because two cicada broods will be above ground at the same time. Depending on where you live, you might have already seen them flying around or their infamous exoskeletons skins. For this installment of Scientific Method, our series where we speak to experts about the latest in the science world, we're talking about cicadas. Want to support 1A? 'If You Can Keep It': The Rising Cost Of Running A Campaign
Maryland is one of three states holding primaries tomorrow. It's also attracting outsized national attention because of the outsized amount of money being spent. Maryland's Senate race is the third most expensive nationwide behind California and Texas. That's thanks largely to the self-financed campaign of wealthy Democrat David Trone. He currently serves in the House. He's part of a wave of self-funded candidates nationwide. That rise coincides with the ever-surging cost of funding a campaign. Political ad spending in the 2024 election cycle is expected to exceed $16 billion. We discuss the cost of campaigns and how they're funded. Want to support 1A? Why Birds Are Having A Harder Time Migrating And How We Can Help
Billions of birds are making their way around the world right now as part of their annual spring migration. But climate change, habitat loss, and human infrastructure are making that journey harder for a lot of species. That's why conservation and government groups come together twice a year to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day – but maybe they also just want an excuse to talk about our feathered friends. Either way, we're happy to oblige. Want to support 1A? Give to your local public radio station and subscribe to this podcast. Have questions? Connect with us. Thoughtful and well presented
Interesting topics, well presented. It is US-based, so most of the topics deal with issues of interest to Americans, but the presentation is thoughtful enough that even the very US-oriented segments, like around elections, are worth listening to. Thoroughly enjoyable
New management
Y'all, I used to be able to rely on this being quality, and this is absolutely no shade to the hosts. Multiple times now I've encountered basic errors in finished episodes(fri 4/12/24 weekly round up), either ending literally mid sentence or mis-posting an entire episode as an episode that released next to it ("If You Can Keep It" released on 3/18/24) which has never been fixed. Just a missing episode in the void I suppose. This feels more than anything like some kind of mismanagement on top of some of the new ads being very odd for what I'd expect. please keep an eye on what's important about broadcasting a show of quality
There is only one view on every issue: progressive democrat. The interviewees are offensive. Shame on you, NPR.

Top things to do on an a1a florida road trip.
By Gary McKechnie
There are hundreds of great drives in Florida, but few match the sustained pleasure of an A1A Florida road trip along the 33 miles between Cocoa Beach and Sebastian Inlet.
Here are five reasons you should go.
Cocoa Beach
The city that turned a detriment (small waves) into an asset (“Cocoa Beach. The Small Wave Capital of the World”) is a great base for the upcoming drive (or ride, if you’re on a motorcycle). Be sure to visit the Cocoa Beach Pier (parking is $10, pplus admission to the fishing pier itself.) An active spot, it features a few restaurants plus volleyball on the sand. Stop by Ron Jon’s Surf Shop . Open 24 hours a day, it’s billed as the world’s largest. After that, hang out on the beach.
Downtown Cocoa Beach
With miles of oceanfront to distract visitors, it’s easy to overlook the fact the city does have a downtown – and some landmarks. The Heidelberg Restaurant serves continental and German cuisine, and its music venue, Heidi’s Jazz Club, has a great reputation for bringing in visiting artists. More casual? Grab a meal at Coconuts on the Beach , an active (and very casual) beachfront restaurant popular with students and adults.
Brevard County Parks
This is what the coast is all about: beach after beach after beach. Brevard County seems to know this better than anyone and has created a multitude of first-class Florida parks with plentiful parking, restrooms, and changing areas, and they’re usually only a few miles apart. Odds are you’ll find a favorite, either near shopping plazas and convenience stores, or far from the madding crowd. Search for your style at Brevard County Parks and Recreation.
Barrier Island Sanctuary
As a reminder of our role as the guardians of nature, the Barrier Island Sanctuary at the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge is well worth a stop to learn how sea turtles and other marine life need our assistance. The center also shares a message of caution agains overdevelopment in sensitive areas. Good lessons for kids… and adults. In season, they also host evening events to watch sea turtles come to the shore to lay their eggs, and later watch the hatchlings head to the sea.
Sebastian Inlet State Park
A combination park, beach, fishing pier, jetty, campground, and boat-launching site, Sebastian Inlet State Park is popular with visitors who find all of this and the chance to enjoy Florida’s natural side.
When you embark on the A1A Florida road trip, take the time to find your own hidden spots and adventures. You won't regret it.

The Sound of Music in Salzburg
The enormous success of The Sound of Music Broadway Musical by Rodgers & Hammerstein premiering in 1959 made film director Robert Wise and 250 crew members turn Salzburg and its surroundings into the Sound of Music filming location in 1964. And it was Salzburg Panorama Tours who took the Sound of Music film crew to the various locations where the famous movie was filmed.
Shortly after its release, the film became a tremendous success, receiving five Academy Awards, becoming the highest grossing movie ever and reaching cult status over the years. Both musical and film are based on the "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers" written by Maria von Trapp in 1949.

FAQs Original Sound of Music Tour®
Where does sound of music take place.
The true story, that The Sound of Music is based, on took place in the Austrian city of Salzburg. Large parts of the movie were filmed in and around Salzburg, some scenes even in the original locations. Featured in the Original Sound of Music Tour® are among many others Leopoldskron Palace and the gazebo at Hellbrunn Palace .
When did the true story of Sound of Music take place?
Maria was asked to teach Georg von Trapp's children in 1926 and their wedding took place in 1927. In 1938, the Trapp family moved to the US to escape the Nazi regime in Germany and Austria. Their move was however far less dramatic than it is portrayed in the film. The 1965 film is an adaptation of the 1959 stage musical and based on Maria von Trapps 1949 memoir "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers".
Where is the Sound of Music house?
There are three locations associated closely with the Trapp family in Salzburg. The original Trapp family home Villa Trapp is located in Aigen to the southeast of Salzburg and not seen in the movie. Two other estates were used to portray the Trapps' home in the movie: Leopoldskron Palace and Frohnburg Palace .
Where is the Sound of Music gazebo?
The gazebo featured in the "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" scene was located in the gardens of Leopoldskron Palace during filming. It was later moved to the gardens at Hellbrunn Palace to make it accessible to interested visitor. The Original Sound of Music Tour® stops at the gazebo to give you the opportunity for unforgettable moments and souvenir photos.
Which church was used in Sound of Music?
