A great choice of mine. I am comfortable using this going to Encinitas Roofing Pros because of its lightweight and fast for a hybrid.

The seat is a thin and a little bit hard

My first real bike Trek 7300fx. Was given it second hand not sure what year model it is(maybe 2006/7). My friend did three trips through Africa averaging about 2000km per trip before he gave the bike to me. He pulled a trailer with it carrying about 30kgs of goods. I have cycled some long trips with it through Malawi. Carrying about 15kgs. Its fast/ strong Great on the uphills.

Our roads are potholed in Africa. Still kept the Trek 7300fx but got a mountain bike as well.

Good bike overall. Its a nice touring bike. Simple to work on maintenance wise.Spares hard to come buy in Malawi have to order from South Africa. Best bike on the tar road. Its strong enough for off road but not comfortable. I going to keep it for some long cycles. I think I would choose this bike if one day I did a Cape to Cairo cycle. It can carry a nice load.

Similar Products Used:

Confident riding. Fast sprinting. Accelerate fast. Acceptable original components.

Poor wheelset and tires (Bontrager Invert Hardcase - very durable, not flats, but not fast). Don´t holds high velocity, requiring a bit cycling power to keep velocity (whe higher than 25 mph)

"Fast" bike, even a little heavy. Position is good for biking, even OEM saddle is not bad but not ergonomics. I spent a fews rides and minutes to find the perfect positon. Fowarding the bars, rotating it, pointing down the saddle nose, inverting the stem... and OK!!! just enjoying a lot now! Seems good at high speeds, but it feels every pothole available. (upgrade fork and seatpost, solving a little bit the problem). Acceptable OEM equipment. At climbs, the small front gear ring in the crankset(48/28 and 28) is not very usefull, but is always there, if required. The cassete uses 11-34 teeths, which 34 size is good for clibing, but not usefull with 28 front gear... it forces the rear derailleur to engage it. I exchaged for a 9 spd cassete (11-28) and rides happy.

Solid construction, nice handling. In lower gears, hills are very doable.

On long rides, my thumbs get tired from downshifting.

I bought this bike because I wanted to ride with a club, but wasn't ready for a real road bike. That was over 4500 miles ago; I had my bike outfitted with road tires and later added bar ends and Look clipless pedals. I really love to ride! My bike is comfortable and quick, and pretty light for an aluminum frame (about 26 lbs). If you see one of these used, grab it; it's a great bike.

yes thats correct i paid $65.00 for a 2006 7300fx. i am new to trek products but i am pleased so far. i live in ann arbor and it is a very bicycle friendly town. if any one has some input on up-grades for my 7300 i would love some advice

Lightweight and fast for a hybrid

maybe it's me but the seat is thin and hard

actually a 2009 FX 7.3. Very lightweight but strong, this bike is faster than any other hybrid I test rode. The seat is a bit uncomfortable and I wish the handlebars were set a little higher so I could carry a little more weight on the seat and sit a little more upright, but it is still pretty comfy. Maybe I'll try installing handlebar ends.

I'm 5'1", and although the 7300 is a bit big for me, I LOVE MY BIKE. It's a smooth, stable lightweight ride. I ride to work and back every day, and ride for pleasure on my days off. I use this bike to carry groceries in attached panniers, and the bike is still stable, even with a 10 lb bag of cat litter on one side, and a 10 lb bag of groceries on the other. I would not trade this for anything. LOVE!

im very hard on bikes and this one can take everything i put it threw iv had more $ bikes and hey dont take half the abuse i put this none threw never had one problem with this bike if somone offerd me a $1000 i be hard pressed to take it....

Light weight, Flat handle bar (good for those with weak backs) Comfortable for long rides. Shifts easily and cleanly.

Shocks transmit freely through the frame. The seat maybe a little uncomfortable to begin, but get used to soon. Snazzy elliptical (weird) frame means typical accessories like bike lock holder cannot be clamped on.

Excellent commuter bike. I got lucky in the sense that the tires on this bike were thinner (much similar to a road bike) than on same other Trek 7.3 FX's Put on a rear bike rack and a kick stand (both from my older bike) and new fenders coz I live in Seattle.

Rayleigh hybrid, Schwinn MTB

Light, strong, solid and fast. I crank pretty hard on hills and in traffic and the FX seems to be taking it easily.

Bumps and rough surfaces seemed more pronounced than with my old bike. The stock seat feels uncomfortable, but may just need adjustment. No kickstand, no place for my old lock holder on the jazzy elliptical frame tubes.

Broke my old hybrid commuter after 6 years of use. The 7.3FX is stronger and lighter, is geared faster for better hill climbs and descents. It's also a great-looking bike [I have the metallic black] and the design seems better thought out and refined than my old bike.

Trek 7300 V. 7300FX

  • Add to quote

I'm back! OK, I've literally narrowed my choices down to two models (not counting of course, my dreamy cruiser). The description of the FX on the website says "Great for fitness workouts and training rides," and the normal hybrid "From bike lanes to bike paths and everything in between." I don't know what this means in terms of bike components, quality, and comfort. The FX is slightly cheaper. I don't plan on using it as a "fitness" bike -- just casual riding, however, I'd like to know what the technical differences are between the two and what it means for me. Also, does anyone own either and have oodles of praise for it? Cheers! Ilana

orange_julius said: You can compare the two side-by-side: * The two of them seem to have very similar frames. The 7300FX's frame is probably slightly lighter. * The 7300 has a suspension fork, the 7300FX has a steel fork. * The 7300 has a suspension seatpost, the FX does not. * The 7300 has an adjustable stem, the FX does not. * Component-wise, the 7300FX seems to have better parts. I don't know much about components at this range though. So the 7300FX seems like a better deal if you don't care for a suspension fork and a suspension seatpost. I have no idea how good/bad the forks and seatposts are, but at that price range I think I would go with non-suspension. Click to expand...
DecafPoetess said: Does adjustable stem meaning you can change the height of the handlebars? If so, isn't that kind of an important feature? What if I don't like the initial position they're in on the FX? Also, isn't "steel" a big no-no? Also, if the components of the FX are better, why is it cheaper? These questions come from true confusion -- I haven't tested these bikes yet, I only like them on paper! Click to expand...
orange_julius said: Sure adjustability is a nice feature, but not necessary. With most bikes one can usually move the stem up and down, subject to the amount of space above/below where the stem is set up on the fork. Sounds like you actually want to do some decent riding, so the FX is a better bet. I don't care much for "comfort" bikes with suspension seatpost and fork. The FX is cheaper because the suspension stuff costs a lot more!! Stop thinking and start test riding ;-). Click to expand...

2010 trek 7300

I just helped my roommate buy a 7300FX yesterday, he's not a cyclist, but was looking for a good bike to ride around town and do the occasional workout on. For me, I'd recommend the FX hands down. The suspension fork on the 7300 is not an exciting fork. It adds considerable weight for a minimal increase in comfort. The FX is extremely comfortable thanks to the nice saddle and very well thought-out geometry. The ride is not at all harsh like a true road bike. We have some rough roads in our neighborhood and I was perfectly comfortable when the roads got nasty. After we brought his FX home last night, I rode it around the block. I couldn't believe how fast the bike was! The comfort level was off the charts (I'm used to the road bike) and the bike was extremely efficient. Good luck with your decision, you'll be happy either way. -Danimal

Steel forks -- The reason they're shunned on a ROAD BIKE (racing machine), is because they're not as stiff as carbon fibre or alum. Also, they're a bit heavier. You're not concerned with either stiff nor heavy, not in terms of a race machine. It's damn fine steel on a damn fine bike. There's not a durability nor a quality issue about steel. The issues are about weight, stiffness, and cost. I posted elsewhere about your bike selections ("I tested bikes today!") comparing the FX to the 7300. I missed some details between the two. Discussion here from those who ride them and sell them shows me that the FX is more a riding bike and the 7300 builds some cushion into the features with the seatpost and suspension fork. You don't need either one. Seatpost and fork suspension will drive up the cost on equipment and so the way to bring the cost back down is to downgrade the components in the drive train. Skip the suspension and go for a nicer set of drive train components. You can always swap out the stem, but chances are it's fine to begin with, and your requirements won't necessitate the subtle differences a stem swap would give you. Now I'm voting for the FX. It has what you need and want, provides better drive train components, and dispenses with a lot of extra baggage and cost that you don't need.

Make sure you wear a helmet on every ride, and that your bike performs well. In short, this means checking the tires, brakes, and chain to make sure everything is in good working order.

Average price for General Road bikes

According to our math, the average price for a trustworthy General Road bike is 1915 $ . However, even if your budget is less than the average, you might still be able to get a top-quality General Road bike. To sum up, when you purchase your bike, make sure to check if it has reviews, and also do some components research.

Overview of components

The 7300 WSD 2009 bike is equipped with 700c aluminum wheels when leaving the factory. These wheels are the most used kind for road bikes in general. However, while they give you great speed and control, these wheels are not so bump-friendly.

Nothing is more important on a bike than its ability to brake properly. Trek 7300 WSD is equipped with Rim brakes. Rim brakes are cheaper than hydraulic brakes, and also easier to maintain. However, they have problems in wet conditions.
