After spending numerous hours in AFK Arena , a chance to play AFK Journey by Lilith Games during the beta was almost too good to be true. Follow the steps below to play the AFK Journey beta.

How to sign up for the AFK Journey beta

You can sign up for the AFK Journey beta through the official  AFK Journey website  and the  AFK Journey Discord . Both allow you to join the AFK Journey beta registration. Simply enter your email, select your desired platform, and submit your interest using the code you receive in your email.

Watch your email for confirmation of your entry being accepted in the AFK Journey. You are not guaranteed to be a part of the beta by signing up, so don't be surprised if your email never comes. You can follow the official  AFK Journey Twitter  to stay up to date on any future betas.

Is AFK Journey on iOS/iPhone, PC, or Android?

AFK Journey will be available on iOS, Android, and PC, and the beta seems to be coming on all these platforms as well. There is no word if there is cross-play or cross-progression, but these features would maximize the player base and options for playing AFK Journey.

When is the AFK Journey beta?

Farlight Games is gearing up for the official launch of AFK Journey, letting players have a go at the upcoming fantasy RPG during the beta phase this February 1st. The casual 3D title combines strategic combat, gacha mechanics, and idle RPG elements into one cross-platform game that serves as the sequel to the popular idle RPG, AFK Arena.

With the new beta phase of AFK Journey, you can look forward to deep player avatar customisation features along with stunning character animations and a thrilling PvP mode. Familiar faces from the world of Esperia will be joining the fray, and you can experience fan-fave characters in a dynamic day and night cycle across vivid 3D landscapes.

Combat is a real-time tactical affair, and you'll need to strategise the best way to take advantage of traps and terrain around you to gain the upper hand. Of course, given the game's idle nature, you can also send your teammates on quests even when you're away to gather loot for you.

The AFK Journey Beta Begins on 1st February

Explore Esperia in a brand-new way when AFK Journey kicks off a beta test on 1st February 2024. Following on from the massively successful AFK Arena , this beta is the beginning of an expansive new era in the AFK series, brining players into an expansive open world and introducing a new realm of RPG mechanics to the laid back adventurer. Heroes based in North America and Europe can sign up to join the Beta Voyage on the official website and play between 1st – 7th February 2024.

For the uninitiated, the new AFK experience is a new legendary adventure in a familiar world. Thrusting fan favorite characters out of the arena and into a huge environment, this fully 3D world is filled with far more than opponents to conquer. A variety of backdrops and terrain, day, night, and shifting weather patterns unfold across a seamless map. Plenty of challenges await, of course, and allies are at your side. Like any great tale there’s a team at your back. In AFK Journey you can build a team of travellers, match their classes, level up, and split gained experience across an entire character roster. The latest teaser dropped ahead of the AFK Journey Beta shows off some of the wonderful canvas art style and combat that occurs. While there are plenty of AFK options, players an also a more active role in combat, using precision slow-motion timing, tactical positioning, and environmental objects to win out.

AFK Journey will launch later this year on PC, iOS, and Android. You can pre-register now at afkjourney.farlightgames.com and sign up to join the Beta Voyage. Anybody singing up and taking part will get some special rewards for participating in the beta, including an exclusive skin, ten free pulls, a new hero, and other perks.

AFK Journey Tier List: Best Heroes [May 2024]

This is an AFK Journey tier list for all heroes in the game.

Are you ready to embark on your AFK Journey? If so, you might need help with choosing which heroes to take with you! To assist with that, we’ve compiled an AFK Journey tier list to rank the best heroes in the game.

Keep in mind that AFK Journey has only just been officially released. This means that the meta of the game is still forming, and heroes who might not have been that good in the beta version could find a place in a new meta team.

We’ll be updating the tier list on a regular basis to make sure that it has the most up-to-date ratings for each hero. We also have an AFK Arena tier list to check out if you want to play the original game.

AFK Journey Tier List

This is the main AFK Journey tier list. It is based on the each heroes’ performance in the current patch for global release. The hero ratings are for five different game modes: AFK/Story/World Map , Dream Realm (Bosses), PvP (Arena), Battle Drills (Guild), and Trial of Abyss .

Hero Summaries

Brutus is great in the early game due to his immortality skill “Indomitable”. This allows him to stay alive for a few seconds longer, which can enable your team to finish off the enemies. However, he dies extremely quickly on higher stages. As you progress into the endgame, he starts to drop off significantly, much like he did in AFK Arena. He’s not very good for the Dream Realm either but is decent in PvP. You generally only need 1 copy of him in the early game.

Smokey & Meerky is one of the best early game support units. They can buff and heal allies. They work great in story mode and are the best support unit to use in the dream realm. However, they don’t work well in all teams, as their tile range is quite small. PvP-wise, they’re mid-tier.

Shakir is an all-round great hero. He can do a bit of everything, damage, support, and even some off-tanking.

Odie is the best A-level hero in the game. His damage is extremely high, and only gets better as he gets upgraded. His ultimate poisons an enemy and will grant a large amount of energy when it is defeated (at lvl 51). His EX weapon skill (Mythic+) will allow him to execute enemies below a certain HP. This combination can enable him to snowball and wipe out entire teams.

Koko is another strong A-Level hero. She acts as a support that can stagger the damage that her allies recieve. This can counter heavy burst damage. She can heal allies and buff their ATK. When her EX weapon is upgraded, she can also remove CC.

Kruger is the best hero in the game for reducing the enemies’ defense, which makes him amazing for the dream realm. He’s not so great in any other mode, but you’ll definitely want to get at least one copy of him for the dream realm. Preferably, upgrade him to Mythic+ in the late game.

Antandra is a decent tank that can play the role of off-tank very well. Unfortunately, some of the best A-Level heroes are maulers, so you’re never really going to place her on the wishlist. If you do have her, then she certainly isn’t bad to use.

Seth is extremely squishy in the early game. However, with upgrades, he can deal pretty insane damage and can also self-heal. Once you invest in him and get to late game, he can be a beast in every single game mode.

Satrana is a melee damage dealer that is a bit too squishy to be viable at the moment.

Rhys deals decent single target and AoE damage, but doesn’t really excel at either of them. Still, he is a very solid pick for everything except PvP.

Lumont has all of the right tools, but he’s very squishy and has a hard time staying alive. For this reason, he is currently one of the worst heroes in the game.

Hewynn is currently the best healer in the game. She can heal all allies on the battlefield, and can be used in any team. Her only weakness is that she’s slow to ramp up, and early on may require a support as a backup.

Eironn is mostly the same hero from AFK Arena. He pulls enemies in, and deals damage to them. This can setup amazing combos and makes him part of meta teams. However, he is pretty awful early on, so should only be used later with some investment.

Bryon is a ranged damage dealer that can summon a falcon pet during the battle. Once he unlocks his Tacit Strike skill at level 2, he can also revive once per battle (requires Mythic+).

Granny Dahnie is one of the best tanks in the game and is great for the story mode and PvP. Only Thoran surpasses her on the tank roster. She has quite a strong kit that features self-healing, CC and debuffing.

Lyca is a ranged damage dealer that buffs her allies with attack speed and energy at the start of the battle. This can help your team to cast their ultimate abilities before the enemy does. Her AoE damage is quite good as well. She’s great for the story mode early on, but does drop off a little at endgame. She’s good for the Dream Realm, but average for PvP.

Damian is a support hero that can provide buffs and heals for his team. He is quite weak early on, but at Mythic+ he can provide a haste buff for allies. This makes him very strong for PvP meta teams.

Arden is a mage that can root enemies in place with his “Entangling Roots” skill. He works well with other CC heroes. Much like Damian, he’s quite weak early on, but gets much better with upgrades. He’s great for PvP in the right team, but pretty bad for the dream realm.

Kafra is a warrior who revolves around marking enemies. He works surprisingly well as a support hero. This is mainly due to his “Wind Mark” skill, which heals allies when a marked enemy is defeated. However, he is very niche and one of the worst wilder heroes.

Parisa is a mage damage dealer who specializes in buffing allies who rely heavily on their basic attacks. This makes her very niche, and generally the worst wilder hero at the moment. While she can work decently well, building a team around her is not worth it.

AFK Journey’s best characters are always there for you. They’re the ones you pull by accident in your first Noble Tavern Recruitments and end up following you all the way to the Trials of Abyss, when they’re still pretty good.

1) Smokey & Meerky

Smokey & Meerky are the best character in AFK Journey . This support duo provides constant area healing, Haste , and Attack buffs through their aroma cloud, making them essential for keeping allies alive and significantly boosting damage. With their EX Weapon in the endgame, they also deal damage to enemy heroes caught in the aroma, enhancing their versatility. Their ability to work effectively as tanks, healers, and attackers makes Smokey & Meerky an essential part of any team .

Cecia is the premier damage dealer in AFK Journey . Her ultimate, Mr. Carlyle, is a minion that not only immobilizes enemies with a massive area Entangle effect but also damages them with its auto-attacks. With Cecia’s EX weapon, she and Mr. Carlyle steal enemy defenses, increasing their own lethality and durability. This makes Cecia a formidable solo damage carry in many compositions, including in PvP: once Mr. Carlyle is deployed, it becomes really hard to prevent it from decimating the entire backline.

Rowan is a utility support that excels in accelerating your squad. He’s the only AFK Journey hero who can provide energy to allies in an area, enabling your entire team to use their ultimates faster, often outpacing the enemy. If this advantage allows you to defeat one or two enemy heroes before they can retaliate with their ultimates, the battle is won, courtesy of Rowan. Given that most characters in the game aim to activate their ultimates as swiftly as possible, Rowan is a suitable addition to almost any team.

4) Antandra

Antandra can taunt enemies in an area, reduce her damage taken, become immune to crowd control, and shield one ally, all while also decreasing enemy attack and stunning them. There’s not much else you could ask from a tank in AFK Journey , making Antandra the ideal partner for pretty much any other tank or warrior in the game. If you want a robust frontline to provide your backline with ample time to build up their ultimates, Antandra is a must.

Thoran is also a great tank in AFK Journey , thanks to his ability to resurrect himself once per battle. Not only that, but his ultimate deals incredible retaliation damage in an area, and he drains enemies’ HP with Soul Plunder. In Mythic+, he can partially absorb damage for an ally, providing him with the team play aspect he lacked before reaching that point. Overall, Thoran excels due to his tankiness and his capability to convert enemy damage into his own with his ultimate, making him a menace regardless of who’s on his team.

Koko is the best offensive support in the game. Her ultimate provides all allies with increased Attack and Life Drain, enabling them to heal themselves by dealing damage instead of relying on her for healing. She reduces the damage her allies take, marks enemies to receive increased damage, and offers single-target healing with an additional Attack boost. These offensive buffs can be so significant that often, replacing an offensive character with Koko results in an overall increase in team damage.

While Reinier is a Hypogean hero that’s challenging to unlock, they’re worth the effort. They truly shine in their ability to swap the positions of one of your heroes with an opponent, which alone can disrupt an entire team strategy. For instance, relocating a Rowan from the enemy’s backline to your team can effectively disrupt their energy ramping, allowing you to gain the upper hand even if Rowan isn’t dealt with immediately. Reinier excels at targeting key heroes of an opponent’s team and forcing them to operate without them.

How we make our AFK Journey best heroes ranking

Our ranking of AFK Journey heroes considers several criteria:

• Usefulness in all stages of the game is critical. Characters who are strong and useful from the moment you acquire them are preferred. For instance, Cecia is favored over Arden, whose area damage relies heavily on his EX Weapon and specific late-game combos. Cecia is also chosen over Mirael, who becomes increasingly vulnerable as you progress into the later stages of the game.
• Viability in different game modes also plays a significant role. Characters that are versatile across various game settings, such as AFK Stages, Story, Dream Realm , and Arena, are considered stronger. Reinier , who excels both as a formation-breaker in team modes and in dealing single-target damage in the Dream Realm, is rated higher than Kruger, who specializes only in the Dream Realm, and Silvina, who is effective at breaking enemy backlines in team modes but struggles in boss fights.
• Independence is another important factor. Heroes who make a significant impact regardless of the other characters in your squad are highly valued. Smokey & Meerky, for instance, are almost always the best support choices, regardless of your team’s composition. Conversely, heroes like Eironn, Berial, and Igor, who require specific roles and functions from their teammates to maximize their effectiveness, are ranked lower.

GAME FEATURES

AFK Journey 1.1.14 Patch Notes

In order to improve your game experience, the server will undergo maintenance on May 10 from 7:00 to 9:00 UTC to update to v1.1.14. You will not be able to log in during this time. For the safety of your account data, please exit the game before the maintenance begins. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

1. The new Song of Strife season will soon be available for servers that have been active for 42 days. To unlock this and all future seasons, you'll need to reach Resonance Level 240, clear all AFK Stages, and complete quest: The Last Leg. Once you've gained access to the season content, pick up the main quest in Holistone, and you'll be all set to explore the new season map and uncover its epic tales! 2. Added the Ravaging Cleave cosmetic for Brutus, which can be obtained for free after completing the season's main story quests. 3. Added Season AFK Stages, which are unlocked after you enter the season map. The available Instant AFK attempts will be reset upon entering the season. 4. Added Season Dream Realm, featuring 6 Dream Realm bosses, including 4 originals and 2 new ones, and new difficulty rewards. To access this mode, you'll need to be on a server with accessible season content and have claimed all stage rewards of the non-season bosses on Endless difficulty. Plus, we've added a Dream Realm District leaderboard that offers exclusive ranking rewards. It won't affect your ranking or rewards on the server leaderboard. 5. Added Season Legend Trial, which includes 4 towers and new floor rewards. To access this mode, you'll need to be on a server with accessible season content and have cleared all non-season Legend Trial floors. 6. Added new systems for hero development: Season Resonance Level, Season Skills, and Season Equipment. These are unlocked once you enter the season map. For the best experience with the new season equipment, we recommend that you level up all your class equipment pieces to 240 before venturing into the season map. 7. Added Season Artifacts. You can obtain the following artifacts in version 1.1.14: Lightheal Spell, Cyclone Spell, Quickblade Spell, Full Moon Spell, Evocation Spell, and Cascade Spell. These Artifacts can be upgraded up to Level 30 within the season. 8. Added Magic Charms that all heroes except Chippy and Hammie can equip. The Magic Charms can provide additional stats and set bonuses and are primarily obtained through Dura's Trials. 9. Added Supreme Arena mode, where you can compete against players from the same District. This mode is available every Wednesday through Sunday and offers generous daily rewards. For more details on this mode, please check the in-game description. 10. Added Dura's Trials mode, which features different towers to challenge every day. Each tower provides a boost to different heroes to help you overcome these high-difficulty challenges. This mode will unlock on the 9th day after the season starts on a server and is recommended for players with a Season Resonance Level of 190 or higher. For more details on this mode, please check the in-game description. 11. Added Season Growth Path, which is unlocked once you enter the season map. Its rewards include the exclusive Mountaineer cosmetic.

Major Updates

1. Added Districts. Servers will be organized into Districts during the Song of Strife season. Once the season begins, rankings for Battle Drills, Arcane Labyrinth, and Honor Duel will change from server-based to district-based. 2. Added Desolate Grounds, the new Battle Drills battlefield, with the first round opening on the 8th day after a season starts on a server. 3. Adjusted the Area Rewards in the Exploration Journal for the non-season areas, replacing Equipment with Diamonds, Hero Essence, and Gestures. You'll receive compensation for this adjustment, calculated based on the exploration rewards you've claimed and sent via in-game mail. 4. The Arena mode will now be classified as a non-season mode. Any seasonal hero enhancements, like the seasonal progression features in this mode, Magic Charms, or Season Artifacts, won't apply. In addition, Arena rankings will continue to be based on servers, not Districts.

Experience Optimizations

1. Added the Auto Battle function for Legend Trial and Trial of Abyss. 2. Optimized the interface of Trial of Abyss. 3. Adjusted the requirements of the Weekly Quests in the Arena, changing them from winning a specific number of matches to playing a specific number of matches. 4. Rearranged the sorting order of the various modes on the Battle Modes page and included an entrance for AFK Stages. 5. Season Essence will be added to the Daily Quests rewards once you enter the season map. By leaving messages or liking other players' messages in a Cairn Posting, you can now earn Pal-Coins, with a maximum limit of 10 Pal-Coins per day. 13. Optimized the logic for displaying notification dots for Keith's Store and Ironhoof Forge. 14. Optimized how nearby players are displayed in the world map view and added a new setting to adjust the number of players displayed. 15. Added a District chat channel. 16. Combat Mechanics

1. Damage dealt by Artifacts will now be correctly affected by the DMG Boost stat of the allied team. 2. In Season Dream Realm, bosses now have a slower increase in Phys DEF and Magic DEF as they lose HP. However, their DMG Reduction will increase faster as their HP decreases. 3. Cassadee - Azure Prodigy When deployed in the defense formation in the Arena, Tidal Strength will now correctly prioritize the allies behind. 4. Damian - Woody Wonder Fixed an issue where "Explode, my chariot!" and "Emergency Support!" would not work properly in rare situations. Fixed an issue where "Emergency Support!' was sometimes cast in the wrong direction. 5. Smokey & Meerky - Wasteland Apothecary Non-interruptive control effects such as immobilizing and blinding will no longer prevent Smokey & Meerky from creating aroma for long periods of time. 6. Florabelle - Blooming Maiden Fixed the issue where the stats of Protective Blessing wouldn't increase when upgraded to Level 4. Removed the cooldown for the activation of Protective Blessing. Fixed the issue where Smashy's HP wasn't correctly restored when using Pounding Blow with all three Bulbsprites on the field. 7. Seth - Swift Shadow Shadow Strike will no longer push away its targets upon impact. 8. Vala - Phantom of Oakenfell Fixed an issue where Notice Beforehand would occasionally be cast multiple times on an invincible target without applying any effect. Fixed an issue where the visual effect of Night Maneuver wasn't displaying correctly. However, there have been no changes made to the actual skill effect. Fixed an issue where Vala wouldn't prioritize attacking the target marked by Notice Beforehand if the skill was cast while she was immobilized. 9. Necrodrakon During your heroes' Ultimate animations, the duration of the crest created by Abyss Crest will not decrease. 10. Alpha Bear Honey Ball can now target summons. 11. Igor - The Mad Dagger Fixed an issue where long-range normal attacks didn't restore energy.
