Does anyone have a video or how-to? I'm surprised I couldn't find one on youtube. I'm sure it's not too hard to figure it out but I don't want to reinvent the wheel. Thanks

Thanks, I don't need the belt routing, I can just look at it. More interested in knowing in advance what's involved in getting the belt in and out. Does the engine mount need to come out? Can it be done from the top or do I need to go through the wheelwell? Also, are the idler and tensioner pulleys normally replaced with the belt or are they good for the long run?  

That question might be answered in the link I provided. The process should just be to use socket and loosen then tension pulley and pull it off. Unless you suspect any pulleys failing, then they should be good. I believe you will need to do it from the wheel well to access all the locations for belt routing. Take it off the crank pulley first, and then everything else should slide back off. Just like most serpentine belts, it can be a royal pain to get back on.  

I needed to replace my belt at 136,500+ miles. There was a split right in the middle. This simple job was a pain especially while it's cold outside. I ended up doing it from the bottom with no ramps or jack. I had a hole already in my bumper with the splash shield missing which made access easy. I ended up having to route the belt like normal then slip on #7 last while holding down the tensioner as far down as possible. I had issues with trying to hold it down while slipping the rest of the belt on as it's easy for the offset wrench to slip which ruins your progress. I wish they would have a lock or toggle of some sort to keep it in place without having to hold it down. It took me a couple hours of trying.

¿Qué es la correa de distribución o banda de tiempo en un JOURNEY?

En pocas palabras: La correa de distribución es una correa de goma que mantiene sincronizadas de forma mecánica las válvulas y los pistones del motor, conectando el cigüeñal al árbol de levas . Si se rompe o falla pueden provocarse graves daños en las válvulas, pistones y/o en la culata del motor . Es por eso que te recomendamos inspeccionarla regularmente para reemplazarla antes de que falle.

¿Cada cuánto debe cambiarse la correa de distribución de tu JOURNEY?

Como regla general la vida útil de la correa de distribución (o banda de tiempo) oscila entre los 60.000 y los 160.000 kms, o 5 años , lo que ocurra primero. Consulta en el manual de usuario de tu JOURNEY para conocer el dato preciso y no correr riesgos.

Cuando cambies la correa, reemplaza también los tensores . Si la correa de tu JOURNEY acciona la bomba de agua , también es conveniente que la reemplaces . Te recomendamos esto porque al reemplazar la correa el costo más grande es el trabajo que lleva cambiarla y no el repuesto en sí. Cuando la reemplazas pero dejas la bomba de agua y los tensores viejos (que son económicos), corres el riesgo de que estos fallen y en ese caso deberás volver a repetir el trabajo, multiplicando un gasto que podrías haber ahorrado.

La correa de distribución suele ser confundida con la correa auxiliar , también llamada correa del alternador , aunque tienen funciones bien diferentes . Esta última es la encargada de mover los accesorios mecánicos del vehículo que se encuentran fuera del motor: el alternador, el compresor del aire acondicionado y la bomba de dirección asistida entre otros.

Algunos vehículos en vez de correa utilizan una cadena de distribución . La ventaja es su durabilidad que suele ser mucho mayor . Su desventaja es que producen más ruido y son más costosas.
