Boat Tours of Lake Como FAQ

What are the best places to visit during a boat tour in lake como.

During a boat tour of Lake Como, you’ll get to explore some of the most famous towns and villages such as Bellagio , which is often called the “Pearl of Lake Como,” as well as Varenna, Tremezzo, and Menaggio . Each of these places has its own distinctive charm and personality.

Now if you’re interested in exploring lesser-known areas, I recommend you to take a Private Boat Tour in Lake Como that will allow you to build your own itinerary. You can consider visiting one of the uninhabited places around Lake Como, such as Isola Comacina or taking a stroll down the Adda River which branches off south from Lecco . In these places, there are fewer tourists, giving you a chance to experience the laid-back lifestyle and natural beauty that northern Italy is famous for.

What are the departure towns?

The starting point for your tour or rental will depend on its type. For instance, public transport boats such as the vaporetti and ferries typically have several pick-up points located around the lake’s perimeter (with Bellagio being one of the most popular), while private boat rentals usually depart from either Tremezzo or Menaggio.

Most boating companies will provide full details of where your tour departs from when you book, so be sure to check this before setting off!

How long does a boat trip in Lake Como last?

The duration of your Lake Como boat tour varies based on your chosen tour or rental.

Public transport boats , such as vaporetti, operate at short intervals and have designated stops for village exploration. They follow a set route and usually run every 30 minutes to an hour. These tours are ideal if you want to disembark and explore one of the villages for a few hours before resuming your journey around the lake.

Private boat rentals offer flexibility, typically with half-day (four hours) and full-day (eight hours) options. Dinner tours allow three hours between departure and docking, while traditional sightseeing tours last two to four hours, with longer options for shoreline exploration.

When is the best time to visit Lake Como?

Any time of the year is a good time to go on a Lake Como boat tour. This is the best way to see the most beautiful views and visit the stunning villas around Lake Como. But if you are planning to catch the warm weather, why not, swim in the blue water lake, between March and November is the best time as you will catch the peak of summertime at Lake Como. Just don’t forget to pack your sunblock and swimsuit.

If you are visiting Lake Como during spring and autumn, they are also beautiful seasons to go on a boat tour, and even if the temperatures are cooler, the crowds are also smaller.

Now if you are visiting during wintertime, you will be able to catch the snow-capped mountains in the background, you will just need to wear layers and especially a warm jacket and you will love this charming season at Lake Como!

What to wear in Lake Como?

If you are also visiting during the hot months, think about  light clothes  and  comfortable shoes   to walk and explore during the day. Don’t forget your  sunblock , and  sunglasses  and consider a  hat   too. If you are planning to go on a  boat tour at Lake Como , bring your bathing suit 😉

Lake Como Boat Tours – Tips & Reviews to Plan Your Perfect Lake Como Boat Tour!

Posted on Last updated: February 1, 2023

Planning a Lake Como boat tour, but not sure what to expect? You’ve come to the right place!

In this article I have outlined everything you need to know about doing a boat tour in Lake Como; including reviews for the best tours, what they include, what to pack and more.

Some travellers will argue that a boat tour is the best activity you can do in Lake Como, and that seeing the spectacular views and wonders of Lake Como from the water is the best way to do so.

Lake Como is one of the most famous lakes in Italy, and it’s easy to see why. With its beautiful villages, luxurious villas, and overall wonderful scenery, it attracts hundreds of visitors every day.

Seeing it from a different angle, from the perspective of the lake, is a must.

There are loads of different Lake Como boat cruises that you can join, from private tours on traditional wooden boats to the cheaper ferries. In this article I outline the pros and cons of each.

So what are you waiting for, let’s dive in and find the best boat trip in Lake Como for you!

About Lake Como

Italy’s third largest lake, Lake Como has, over the centuries, been a super popular place for aristocrats and the well-to-do to have their holiday homes.

Beautiful villas have dotted the lakeside for over a thousand years, with wealthy Romans enjoying this slice of Northern Italy as a retreat from city life.

Roman historian Pliny the Younger had not one, but two resorts built here, the Tragedia and the Comedia.

Set in the Lombardy region, the primary attraction of Lake Como are the beautiful landscapes: the gorgeous natural landscapes continue to captivate visitors’ imaginations to this day.

Add beautiful architecture and charming towns into the mix, and it’s no wonder that this iconic body of water has remained such a staple over the years.

Many travellers add either a Lake Como day trip from Milan or a full three days in Lake Como to their Italy itineraries . Regardless of how long you spend in Lake Como, a boat tour along this beautiful lake is a must.

There are multiple pretty little towns to visit along the water’s edge, from the famous Bellagio to Varenna and the eponymous Como, all on the lake’s luxurious southern shore.

The interesting Y-shape of the lake really lends itself to boat tours. Rather than setting sail on a huge, shapeless body of water, exploring Lake Como on a cruise feels more like going on an adventure.

From the waters edge you can discover its ancient villas, little bays and inlets, and the hidden gems of Lake Como, which just add to the majestic feel of the place.

Where to book your Lake Como boat tour

When it comes to booking tours while travelling, I always suggest GetYourGuide .

GetYourGuide is a platform where tour providers can sell their tours, and as a user, you can compare tours and check reviews from previous customers.

It’s a great way to ensure you’re getting the best deal. They also offer a full refund up until 24 hours before the tour, so if something happens, you can just cancel it.

In this article I have listed all of the most popular Lake Como boat tours that you’ll find online, both on GetYourGuide and Viator .

So what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in and discover the natural beauty of Lake Como with these epic boat tours!

The 9 best Lake Como boat tours

Before we dive into the best Lake Como boat tours, I should clarify that there are lots of different options and different types of Lake Como boat tours.

Some come with a professional skipper, whilst others are just a rental company giving you a boat to then cruise yourself.

In this tours collection, I have also listed the public ferries, and you’ll soon see why.

Lake Como by ferry

While there are plenty of tours on offer, Lake Como boat tour prices can be expensive. Don’t worry though: one of the more affordable ways to explore the Y-shaped lake is to use the Lake Como ferries.

Cruising around Lake Como with the ferries

Cruising around Lake Como with the ferries

Varenna at sunset as seen from the lake

Varenna at sunset as seen from the lake

This public ferry service takes passengers to 45 different destinations around the lake, and stops at all major towns along the shoreline.

Run by Navigazione Laghi, there are three different types of boats – from regular to high-speed – and various routes to choose from.

Prices change depending on the type of ferry and route you take, but prices start at a very reasonable €2.50. You can purchase ferry tickets at the corresponding ticket office that is located near each dock.

It might not be as panoramic, romantic or private an experience as a traditional wooden boat tour, but it will give you a taste of what it’s like to cruise on this beautiful lake, taking in the gorgeous sights and main attractions, for a tenth of the price of a boat tour.

Como: 2-Hour Lake Como Private Boat Tour & Sightseeing

On this tour you’ll get the chance to soak up Lake Como on a private boat. You and your group (of up to five people) can hop aboard and explore all the highlights that the lake has to offer.

The tour starts at Sant’Agostino dock in Como, the main town in the area.

Throughout the cruise, the captain will explain the different sights and attractions along the water’s edge – including, of course, some of the more infamous villas.

You won’t be able to visit the inside of the villas during your boat tour, but from the water you’ll be able to enjoy the sights over Villa D’este, Villa Carlotta, Villa del Balbianello and even George Clooney’s villa!

The price of the tour includes music, bottles of water and safety equipment.

This tour also begins in Milan , where you’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the water’s edge. Here you’ll meet your boat and head off to explore Lake Como (which is actually one of the deepest lakes in Europe).

The comprehensive tour will take you to visit some of the towns that fringe the lake, including Como, Bellagio, Tremezzo and Varenna.

It’s eight hours long in total, so you won’t be rushed too much, and you’ll have enough time to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Como: Personal Lake Como Motor Boat Rental

Though this isn’t exactly a tour with a guide, this option gives you the opportunity to tour Lake Como by boat independently , and that’s pretty cool.

You and your group (up to six people) will meet at the dockside, where you’ll be taught the ins and outs of driving the boat (don’t worry, it’s not too tricky).

Then it’s time to head out onto the water as you cruise around yourself, enjoying the scenery and lapping it all up. The instructors at the start are really friendly and will help you get to grips with how the boat works.

It’s also a more affordable alternative to the guided boat tours on Lake Como, which can quickly become expensive.

All in all, it’s not just a great option for budget travellers, but also for those who are a little bit more independent and want to explore at their own pace.

From Milan: Lake Como at Sunset with Boat & Walking Tour

This boat trip on Lake Como is a little bit different from others as it actually takes place during the late afternoon and sunset, making it extra romantic.

On this particular tour , you really have the chance to soak up the beauty of the lake.

It also starts off in Milan , so you don’t have to worry about arranging transport or accommodation in Lake Como itself (which can be pricey).

You’ll be picked up by an air-conditioned coach and whisked to the lake, where your tour guide will explain the different sights and villas you can see from the water.

This Lake Como sunset cruise has yet more added value. That’s because the tour also includes a walking tour of Como town, where you can see the Gothic cathedral, and ride the funicular up to the town of Brunate.

Private Como Lake Boat Tour

If you’re looking for a private boat tour of Lake Como , rather than a group tour, then you might want to consider this one.

This tour allows you to see lesser visited, more under-the-radar spots that some of the more mainstream tours may not visit.

Your knowledgeable, friendly guide will let you enjoy your time on the boat, while pointing out interesting sights and telling you about anecdotes of history along the way.

I’d say that this is a great option for a family or a small group of friends.

Private Como Lake Boat Tour on classic wooden boat

For a more traditional option, try out this Lake Como boat cruise on a cadenazzi – a classic style of wooden boat that was popular for exploring the lake during the 1950s and ‘60s.

For this private tour you’ll be able to book yourself alongside five other people.

You’ll be taken to some beautiful, fascinating sights, seeing the famous lakeside villas as you pass by, cruising past sun-dappled islands, and you’ll even get the chance to cool off with a swim in the lake itself (after all, Lake Como is one of the best beach destinations near Milan for a reason)!

An awesome option if you’re looking for a boat tour for a special occasion, largely because that wooden cadenazzi is so romantic.

Of all the boat tours in Lake Como, this one is a very complete tour. Not only do you get to cruise around Lake Como, but you’ll also visit Switzerland, too. Yep, two countries in one day!

The tour departs from Como in a coach, where you’ll be driven to the Swiss city of Lugano, which sits on the shores of its very own beautiful lake.

Here you’ll be able to see some sights, sample some Swiss chocolate and enjoy a delicious lunch. From there, back in Italy, you’ll go to the village of Cadenabbia, situated on the western shores of Lake Como.

Then you’ll be taken across the lake by boat to Bellagio, where you’ll get some free time, soaking up the ambience of it all, and then it’s aboard a ferry to see more of the lake before heading back to Como.

Is doing a boat tour in Lake Como worth it?

Absolutely! A Como Lake tour by boat is totally worth it. There’s a reason it features on the Italy bucket list of so many people.

The landscape is nothing short of stunning, the architecture of the historic villas and towns around the lake is beautiful and seeing it all from the water is the whole package.

Whether your starting point is the city of Como, or you just do the Golden Triangle, a boat tour is a fun activity that will allow you to snap some unique photographs.

However, I personally think that Lake Como boat tours are more for a special occasion, as opposed to an everyday trip.

The tours can be super romantic, so they’re perfect for couples, and for a large group of friends or a family on holiday together, it makes sense to book a private tour together (you also save money that way).

Whilst for a “regular” trip to Lake Como, you could easily just take the ferry, and save some money instead.

I think the tours are a little expensive, and wouldn’t personally splurge on one unless it was for a special occasion.

The ferry allows you to see Lake Como and its sights from the water, enjoying the beautiful scenery, at a fraction of the cost.

It’s obviously not the same experience as a private cadenazzi boat tour, but it’s still enjoyable nonetheless, and for the price, it’s well worth it!

What to pack for your Lake Como boat tour

Besides the usual travel essentials  that already feature on your Italy packing list , there are a few things you should make sure to pack for your boat tour in Lake Como.

Water bottle – Save on money and plastic by bringing your own reusable water bottle! I like the stainless steel ones because they keep my water cool throughout the day.

Sunblock – The Italian sun can get pretty intense, especially if you’re visiting in summer, so make sure you protect yourself!

Hat – Like above, bring a hat to shade your head and face, which will also help to see better at sea.

Camera – All these Lake Como boat tours are so stunning, you want to make sure you capture them in all their beauty!

Water proof bag – It’s pretty unlikely that you or your bag will fall off the boat, but better safe than sorry right? Protect your electronics from any rogue waves and splashes with a water proof bag.

Fast drying towel – I love these because they take up very little space and dry really quickly, perfect for boat days like this!

Also, don’t forget your Italy travel insurance ! If something goes wrong, you want to be sure you’re covered and don’t ruin your Lake Como boat trip!

Where to stay to tour Lake Como by boat

The best place to stay in Lake Como  ultimately depends on your travel style. Each town in Lake Como has its distinctive vibe, and is best suited for different types of travellers.

For example Como is a bigger city, with a more buzzing nightlife for young travellers, whilst Bellagio, with its iconic Lake Como sights, is the typical luxury stay for couples.

For example, on my last Lake Como trip, I stayed at Essentia Guest House , a lovely guest house in Faggetto Lario, an unknown town on the shores of Lake Como.

Essentia Guest House has stunning views over Lake Como, a friendly host, a huge outdoors area and even a hot tub where you can relax and enjoy the views.

A gorgeous slice of warm Italian paradise , Lake Como is perhaps most famous for being a vacation destination for the stars. Heralded by George Clooney’s mega-mansion, this opulent oasis has been welcoming the elite for decades – and with the inviting combination of seclusion, natural beauty, year-round sun, the very finest Italian cuisine, and no shortage of fancy lakeside hotels to pamper you to within an inch of your life, this sparkling retreat has been one of the most popular destinations in the country for locals and tourists alike for decades.

On land, you’re greeted with a go-slow lifestyle popping with splendid architecture and rich culture; as you meander around the winding streets of Como, take a moment to stop and appreciate the opulent touches that adorn many of the buildings. The Duomo di Como , for example, is a stunning cathedral flanked with intricate details both inside and out.

Or, if you’re looking for something a little more unique, be sure to check out Villa Carlotta . This beautiful villa was once owned by royalty, now a botanical garden and museum that features an impressive collection of artwork around every corner.

Which tour sounds like the perfect addition to your idyllic Italian vacation? Read on to find out!

Lake Como public ferry boat tour

If you’re looking for a tour that covers all of the bases and you don’t want to break the bank, then hopping on one of the Lake Como public ferries is probably your best bet.

Run by the local transport service (the Navigazione Laghi ), these big, budget-friendly boats run on set timetables throughout the day and make several stops at all of the most popular towns and villages dotted around the lake. Just to give you a taste of the stops on the routes, you can find yourself in Bellagio (dubbed the pearl of Lake Como), a town known for its luxury hotels and designer boutiques; the vibrant and steep hillside town of Varenna with its pastel-hued houses; Menaggio, a historic and lesser-known town dotted with walls that once bordered the ancient castle; or Cadenabbia, a small and laidback lakeside spot brimming with luxury resorts.

While those towns are all relatively close to one another, the ferries can also take you to northernmost spots like Colico and Domaso, Lecco in the southeast, or Como or Tavernola in the southwest. No matter which route you take, you’ll be blessed with plenty of time to take in the stunning scenery as you cruise around what is arguable one of the most beautiful lakes in the world.

Plus, as an added bonus, you can use your ferry ticket to hop on and off at different stops along the lake as many times as you like over the course of the day. So, if you want to explore a particular town in more detail or simply take your time meandering around Lake Como’s picturesque villages at your own pace, this is the tour for you.

Perfect for the penny-pinchers, the price for a ferry ticket is € 3.40 per person. If you want to bring along a bike, it’ll cost you an extra euro; you can bring your car or motorbike too (on the bigger boats), but they’ll set you back a few extra euros too (at least 4 for cars, increasing slightly depending on size).

It’s a no-frills approach that gets you from A to B with sparkling views from departure to docking.

Lake Como sailing tour

If your idea of a dream vacation is away from the crowds, focused on luxury, peacefulness, and a whole lot of stunning views without a worry in the world, then leave the crowded ferries behind and say hello to a day out sailing on Lake Como.

One of the most romantic ways to explore the lake, a sailing tour gives you access to secluded coves, hidden beaches, and cliffs that are only accessible by boat. You’ll feel like you have the lake all to yourself as you soak up the tranquility with your significant other (or close friends).

As there’s no set timetable or stops to make, a sailing tour is one of the best ways to really take your time and appreciate everything that Lake Como has to offer at a more leisurely pace. Your captain will be more than happy to show you around and point out all of the highlights, but they’ll also give you plenty of time and space to just sit back, relax, sip on a glass (or four) of Prosecco, nibble some delectable Italian cheeses, and soak up the oh-so-good rays.

Prices for a sailing tour vary depending on the size of the boat and how long you want to be out on the water for, but you can expect to pay anything from €150 for a small group (up to six people) for a half-day tour to around €400 for a full day out on a larger boat. With a multitude of options – some setting sail from Bellagio, others Como, and others Lecco – there’s always a sailing adventure nearby. (and if you’re not staying in one of the major towns, most tour operators can arrange for you to be picked up from your hotel!)

For all of you foodies, consider one of the dinner options. It’s not exactly a shock to hear that Italian food is delectable, but when combined with a private sail on the calm waters of Lake Como, it becomes an unforgettable experience.

What’s not to love about a romantic dinner date with the one you love (or close friends), fresh air, and some of the best views in Europe?

If you’re looking for an intimate and luxurious way to explore Lake Como, then this is most definitely the tour for you. Just make sure you pack your sunscreen!

Lake Como villas sightseeing boat tour

Nobody’s arguing that a day out on the water isn’t enchanting. However, what separates the best Lake Como boat tours from a typical day of sailing on any other lake, river, or ocean in Europe is what sits on the land which flanks the water.

Besides the towering and lush mountain ranges that provide a glowing contrast of green with the vibrant and clear blues of the water, the shores of this infamous Italian lake are renowned for their luxury, high-class villas.

As you explore the lake on a sightseeing tour, enjoying your Italian nibbles and sipping on your home-grown wine, your friendly captain will wax on fascinating details about all of the celebrity homes and opulent villas which dot the coast, giving you a bit of history behind each one.

So, what can you expect from a villa-focused tour? While each company takes an individual route, rest assured you’ll cruise past at least a half-dozen of the most iconic and postcard-worthy (and expensive!) waterside abodes in the region.

Villa Balbianello near Lenno, for instance, dates back to the end of the 18th century and sits on the grounds of an old monastery. With its picturesque gardens and pair of yellow-hued, castle-like towers, it’s impossible to miss (no wonder it was featured in Casino Royale!). The Villa Monastero in Varenna, on the other hand, is older still, build in the 12th century that’s famed for its botanical gardens and terraced lemon groves. While renovated at the turn of the 20th century, it still stands out on the shoreline with its unique and eclectic Nordic style.

Of course, no Lake Como villa tour would be complete without a stop at the three-floor Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo. Set against the dramatic mountainous backdrop and above the road (which gifts it a panoramic position overlooking the lake), this stunning mansion has origins in the late 1600s and features an impressive art collection, many artistic events, as well as beautiful gardens with blooming flowers all year round.

Throw in both Villa d’Este and Villa Erba in Cernobbio, and the majestic Villa Olmo in Como (to name just a few) and it’s clear that you won’t soon run out of notable landmarks on your villa-hopping Lake Como boat tour!

Most tours are a minimum of three hours, with prices starting at around €50 per person, but can increase depending on the size of your group, whether or not you want to tour the villas as well, and any extras that you might want to add on (such as walking tours with an English-speaking guide). Either way, sleep sound knowing that any villa tour is not only picturesque but informative too.

Lake Como luxury Venetian-style boat tour

For convenience, you’ve got the ferries. For luxury, you’ve got sailboats. But if you’re all about romance and style on your Lake Como boat tour, then you need a Venetian-style boat.

Your mind probably jumped to gondolas right? Gondolas have long been associated with Venice, and for good reason – they’re the epitome of Italian romance. Yet what most people don’t know is that Venitian boats come in different forms, and if you’re all about luxury and romance, then the private, classic mahogany Riva limousines – the kind on which you’d see George Clooney riding – are found all over Lake Como too.

Most Venitian-style boat operators will be based in either Como, Lecco, or Bellagio, with some also found in Varenna and Menaggio. All offer similar experiences, though it’s worth doing your research before you book so that you can find one which suits your needs best.

For example, if you’re looking for a quick experience, then you can take a short and sweet ride out on the water without all the bells and whistles. For something a little more comprehensive, a host of tours operate with pre-planned routes that not only include short 15-minutes stops in towns like Varenna, and longer stops (close to an hour) in Bellagio, but also a bottle of Prosecco to set the mood.

Another popular spot on Venetian-style Lake Como boat tours is Isola Comacina, a small, tree-lined island just off the western shore.

On a private tour – tailormade for couples or small groups – you’ll be rid of the crowds, the noise, and the stress; left to admire the sights, enjoy the sunshine, and pick the brain of your friendly, knowledgable driver. If that idea sounds like bliss, then book ahead and secure your spot!

Lake Como private boat tour

Nothing quite epitomizes a classy vacation than cruising past lush mountains, charming villages, calm waters, and Mediterranean villas on a private boat.

While most Lake Como boat tours are shared experiences with up to 30 other people, a private tour means that you can tailor the entire experience to your liking – whether that’s stopping off at certain landmarks, enjoying a long lunch break in Bellagio, or just sipping Prosecco in the company of your nearest and dearest as you sit back, relax, and indulge in the unmatched serenity.

Lasting anywhere from an hour (a short and sweet cruise around the water) to nearly a full day (jam-packed with villa visits, lunch and/or dinner, cooking classes, soft trekking, or walking tours of different towns) a private Lake Como boat tour is the perfect way to see everything that this beautiful destination has to offer without being tied down to a group or a set schedule.

As the friendly captain waxes about the lake’s top villas and gardens from the water, you can set your own course; just to give an example, let’s say you’re departing from Como. After setting sail, you can cruise past the grand Villa del Balbianello and Villa Carlotta, cruise onwards to the popular towns of Tremezzo and Bellagio for a spot of coffee, and then kick on to the lake’s little-known island and waterfall, away from all the crowds.

Of course, all of this seclusion comes at a price. Private Lake Como boat tours don’t come cheap, but if you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience (or perhaps celebrating something special), then it’s definitely worth splashing out.

Lake Como dinner cruise

About as romantic as it gets, a Lake Como dinner cruise is the perfect way to spoil your significant other whilst on vacation.

As the sun sets over the water and twinkling lights begin to dot the shoreline, you’ll be seated at an intimate table for two (or more, if you’re in a group) where you can enjoy a delicious Italian meal as you sail past some of Lake Como’s most picturesque villages.

Most dinner cruises last around three hours and include stops in pretty towns like Bellagio, Varenna, Tremezzo, and Menaggio; giving you plenty of time to explore each one before returning to your cozy table on board. And of course, what would an Italian dinner be without some good wine?

You’ll be able to choose from a selection of red and white wines, as well as prosecco, to accompany your meal; the perfect way to toast to a magical evening spent cruising around one of Italy’s most beautiful lakes.

Typically, the best Lake Como boat tours that include dinner go one of two ways. On the one hand, you’re treated to a hearty feast on the deck or bow of the boat itself – nothing quite like dining al fresco as you sail past some of Lake Como’s most iconic landmarks. On the other hand, you’ll dock at a town like Moltrasio and be escorted to a charming and quiet restaurant where a tantalizing 3-course meal with wine awaits, allowing you to see a different part of the shoreline in the process.

Either way, if you’re a foodie on the hunt for a truly unique and romantic experience during your time on Lake Como, then make sure to book ahead for a dinner cruise on a stylish open-top water taxi – it’s an unforgettable (and delicious) way to spend an evening!

Lake Como boat rental

If you’re craving the flexibility to do as you please, want to be rid of the tourists onshore, or simply love being out on the water, then a Lake Como boat rental is the perfect option for you.

With a boat rental, you’re in complete control of your own itinerary; explore secluded coves and hidden beaches that can only be reached by water, drop anchor and take a dip in the refreshing lake waters, or cruise around at your leisure – it’s entirely up to you!

Some boat rentals come with a captain (for an additional fee), who will be more than happy to show you around the lake and offer suggestions on where to go and what to see.

However, if you’re confident enough to take the wheel yourself (and have the necessary boating license when relevant – note, it’s not always needed), then you’ll be able to explore Lake Como to your heart’s content; the perfect way to see the region from a different perspective!

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day spent cruising around the lake with friends on a yacht, motorboat, or fancy water taxi limousine, or an adventurous afternoon exploring hidden caves and coves on a little motorized dinghy (typically the cheapest option), a boat rental on Lake Como is guaranteed to leave you with memories to last a lifetime.

  • boat rentals in Lake Como

How much Lake Como boat tours cost entirely depends on your chosen tour and what is included.

For example, a dinner cruise will typically cost more than a standard boat tour of the lake as it includes the price of your meal and drinks. Similarly, a private boat tour or rental will usually be more expensive than a group tour as you’re essentially paying for the whole boat (and sometimes captain) to yourself.

That being said, there are plenty of budget-friendly options available if you’re looking to save some money; many group tours have discounts for students or seniors, while public transport boats (known as vaporetti in Italian) and ferries that cruise around Lake Como are very reasonably priced and offer great value for money.

So, whether you’re on a tight budget or happy to splash out, there’s definitely a Lake Como boat tour to suit your needs!

best places to visit during a boat tour in Lake Como

As Italy’s third-largest lake, the variety of colorful and historic villages lining its sparkling shoreline is truly astounding.

On a Lake Como boat tour, you’ll have the opportunity to visit some of the most popular towns and villages such as Bellagio (often referred to as the ‘Pearl of Lake Como’), Varenna, Tremezzo, and Menaggio; each with their own unique charm and character.

Or, if you’re looking to get off the beaten track, why not explore one of the lake’s many uninhabited areas like Isola Comacina or meander down the Adda River that branches off south from Lecco? Down here, the tourists numbers drop off substantially, showing off the low-key lifestyle and natural beauty that northern Italy is renowned for.

With so much to see and do, it can be tough to decide where to go on a boat tour in Lake Como! To help you out, several boating companies have whipped together itineraries for you that cover the main villas, villages, and landmarks – so if you prefer to sit back and relax, a pre-organized tour is your best bet.

The duration of your boat trip around Lake Como will, again, depend on the type of tour or rental you choose.

For instance, public transport boats such as the vaporetti and ferries typically only run for short periods throughout the day (usually every 30 minutes to one hour) and follow a set route with designated stops along the way. These types of tours are great if you’re looking to hop off and explore one of the villages for a few hours before continuing your journey around the lake.

On the other hand, private boat rentals give you complete freedom to come and go as you please; most companies offer half-day (four hours) and full-day (eight hours) rentals, but it’s also possible to hire a boat for longer periods of time if you’re planning an extended stay on Lake Como.

If you’re after a dinner tour, you’ll typically have three hours between departure and docking, while the traditional sightseeing tours can last anywhere from two to four hours on the water – longer if you opt for one that gives you time to explore the shoreline on foot.

With a host of options to suit every itinerary and time constraint, whether you’re looking for a quick jaunt around the lake or an all-day adventure, there’s definitely a tour or rental to suit your needs!

boat tour in Lake Como

The start point of your tour will, again, depend on the type of tour or rental you choose.

For instance, public transport boats such as the vaporetti and ferries typically have several pick-up points located around the lake’s perimeter (with Bellagio being one of the most popular), while private boat rentals usually depart from either Tremezzo or Menaggio.

Dinner cruises typically leave from Varenna, Como, or Bellagio, while sightseeing tours tend to depart from various locations depending on which landmarks and villas they’re covering.

Most boating companies will provide full details of where your tour departs from when you book, so be sure to check this before setting off!

Keep in mind that, regardless of where your boat departs from, if you book a tour through a company online (i.e. a private tour or a sightseeing tour, not a ferry), they’ll be able to provide transport to and from your accommodation assuming you’re staying within the main tourist circles, or, at the very least, decide on a pick-up point that’s more convenient for you!

As a general rule of thumb, it’s always best to dress for the weather; if it’s hot and sunny, be sure to pack sunscreen and a hat, while cooler days will call for layers that you can peel off as the temperature rises.

Of course, if you’re planning on swimming or taking a dip in Lake Como (which is definitely worth doing!), you’ll need to bring your swimsuit too!

Other than that, there’s no real dress code for most boat tours around Lake Como; just make sure you’re comfortable and able to move freely, as you’ll likely be spending a lot of time sitting.

When the sun is beating down and twinkling off the water, and when the air is toasty and warm, there’s nothing quite like being on a boat on Lake Como. Between March and November, but particularly in the peak of summer, the conditions are just right for a leisurely day (or more!) spent cruising around the lake. You won’t have to pack too many extra layers (maybe just a hat and some sunscreen) and you can take a dip in the refreshing waters without turning into an icicle.

That said, the lake is beautiful all year round, so don’t feel like you have to wait for summer to enjoy a boating trip!

Spring and autumn are both lovely seasons for a tour or rental; the weather is milder (which makes for more comfortable conditions if you’re planning on spending a lot of time outdoors), and the crowds are smaller too.

Of course, winter has its own charm; with the snow-capped mountains in the background and twinkling lights adorning the villas along the shoreline, it’s easy to see why many people consider Lake Como to be even more magical during this time.

windsurfing in Lake Como

Who said this 146 km² lake was all about slow boats and lazy days? If you’re feeling a little more active during your stay, there are plenty of other water-based activities to enjoy on and around Lake Como – including the typical ones like swimming, snorkeling, and diving, of course!

Fancy learning how to windsurf or kitesurfing ? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to give stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking a try? With several companies offering lessons and rentals (often at very reasonable prices), it’s easier than ever to get out on the water and have some fun!

And, if you really want to push the boat out (pun intended), why not try your hand at wakeboarding or waterskiing? A bounty of companies offer tows for both sports, so all you need is a bit of balance (and maybe a wetsuit if you’re visiting in cooler months) and you’re good to go!

Finally, for all the fearless thrillseekers, paragliding and parasailing await. Whether being pulled along by a boat or steering your own way through the air, the birds-eye views above this upside-down Y lake are second to none.

We can’t overlook the land-based activities either; from horse riding and hiking to tennis, golf, and much more, there’s something to keep everyone entertained during a stay in Lake Como.

Lake Como boat tour tips

  • Spend at least 3-4 days at the lake. With so many picturesque towns and villages to explore, as well as plenty of activities to keep you occupied, a longer stay is always better!
  • Don’t be afraid to venture away from the main tourist areas; while they’re lovely, it’s often the smaller towns and villages that offer the most authentic experience.
  • Be sure to pack comfortable shoes; even if you don’t plan on doing too much walking, you’ll likely end up exploring more than you anticipated!
  • Make sure you have a good camera (or at least your phone’s camera) with you at all times; Lake Como is one of those places that’s just begging to be photographed and it’s guaranteed to leave your social media fans teeming with jealousy!
  • Check out Milan! At just an hour’s drive from Bellagio (one of the most popular towns on Lake Como), it’s the perfect stop before or after your time in Como. Depending on where you’re traveling from, flying into Milan and then driving or training to Como may well be your best and cheapest option.
  • Book your accommodation in advance with a comparison site. Particularly in the summertime, prices for hotels and Airbnbs skyrocket, so it’s always best to plan ahead.
  • And, last but not least, try to learn a few basic phrases in Italian before you go; while many people in tourist areas speak English, it’s always nice to be able to say a few words in the local language. Arrivederci! (That means “goodbye” in case you were wondering.)

Final thoughts

So, there you have it; everything you need to know about boating around Lake Como!

Whether you’re looking for a leisurely day spent taking in the sights or something a little more active, there’s definitely something for everyone. And if you’re keen on all-out fancy, rest assured you’ll find it in this beloved celebrity getaway. Just be sure to dress for the weather, pack sunscreen and a hat (if it’s sunny), and most importantly, enjoy your time on the water!

Truly fabulous experience. We were on our honeymoon, so we wanted a private tour of a few villas around the lake, along with some time on the actual lake by boat. This tour checked every box for us. We enjoyed lunch at the il Perlo hotel beforehand, with delicious food and a panoramic view of the lake. From there, we met our guide and captain and were taken for the villas tour by boat. We toured the three villas with an extremely knowledgeable guide, and our experience wouldn’t have been the same without her. Although on the pricier side, this tour was worth every penny. We felt like we were in a movie: aboard a boat on Lake Como, bouncing from Villa to Villa. First class service, 10/10, would do this again in a heartbeat, no hesitation.  Read more about Tour of the most beautiful Villas of Lake Como

2 – SAILING BOAT

Stand out from the crowd on Lake Como by opting for a magnificent sailing boat instead of the common Venetian taxi boats. 3- VENETIAN TAXI BOAT

Elegance: that’s the best way to define a tour with this kind of boats.

This is a very romantic boat where you can propose to your love: with this surrounding he/she can’t say anything else than YES 😉

These are very comfortable boats: they can fit 8 to 10 people, most of them are covered, in case of rain, and heated if you would like to enjoy a Lake Como boat tour even in low season period.

Embark on a unique adventure aboard classic wooden boats, where you can unwind, swim in the crystal-clear waters of the lake, and bask in the warm sun. Experience Lake Como like a true local!

Adding to the charm, your skipper is a Bellagio native who has a deep connection with these boats, having spent countless hours on them since childhood.

We have selected two of Lake Como boat tours, ensuring an unforgettable experience on these timeless wooden vessels. One tour can start from Bellagio the other tour starts from Tremezzo.

  • 2 hours Lake tour
  • Boat tour from Tremezzo

4 – BOATS FOR GROUP

If you are a family or a group of more than 14 people the best option is a bigger boat: even if they are not as elegant as a water taxi this will allow you to have more space and it will cost you less than having 2 venetian taxi boats.

The price can vary upon the number of people onboard and the boat chosen. It’s required a minimum of 2 hours tour.

5 – LUXURY BOATS

A very luxury option: a Riva boat.

There’s nothing more exclusive then a boat tour with one of the most beautiful boats on the Lake: the Riva boat.

Prices can vary between €400,00 and € 800,00 per hour.

A guide to Lake Como's highlights — villas, promenades and aperitivo spots not to miss

The western branch of this northern Italian lake is its highlight, home to romantic villas and revamped waterfront promenades in pretty Como city.

A view of the scenery in lake como. The skies are clear, and the water is calm and blue. A green hill can be seen on one side with colourful villas dotted.

Lake Como conveys notions of easy elegance and the Italian art of slow living, and has come to stand for something bigger than it is. Officially called Lario, Italy ’s third-biggest lake has been drawing visitors since the 18th century, when it was a popular stop for European nobles on their grand tours. More recently, it stepped into the spotlight as the backdrop for films including Ocean’s Twelve and Casino Royale . But the lake’s prestige dates to Roman times, when Julius Ceasar drained a swamp at its southwestern end, strategically located near Alpine passes, and funded the creation of a city known as Novum Comum.

It laid the foundation for Como, the main hub to this day and the reason why the lake is commonly known as Como. This spring is the best time to visit the city in over a decade, as sections of its waterfront sidewalks, which had been cordoned off for expansion since 2008, are once again open to walkers. The centre is dominated by the azure dome of the Duomo di Como , one of the last gothic cathedrals built in the country. Behind it is Teatro Sociale , and to one side is the shopping street of Via Vittorio Emanuele II. It’s a good place to pick up a souvenir: mulberry trees were planted on Lake Como’s hills in the 15th century, and boutiques like A Picci sell handkerchiefs and scarves using their silk.

Next to the shop, Via Lambertenghi leads to Via Alessandro Volta , named after the physicist credited as the inventor of the electric battery. The townhouse where he was born in 1745 is marked with a plaque, and around it are some of the most coveted addresses of the time. This is not least thanks to their giardini pensili — gardens built on the Roman walls that once guarded the city centre.

Equally evocative is Passeggiata Lino Gelpi , between the lake and shorefront private gardens. The path’s name pays tribute to the 19th-century mayor who reclaimed a strip of land from villa owners to pave Como’s most scenic public footpaths. It’s a front-row spot from which to watch the lake’s seaplanes land, and it’s especially lovely in spring, when wisteria blooms along the banks.

Continue walking along the waterside road for half an hour to Cernobbio , one of the lake’s most popular resorts. Local Comaschi come to eat at Harry’s Bar , in a piazza by the shore; it serves whitefish from the lake, but the pick is the sole meuniere, floured and pan fried to crispy perfection. Alternatively, taxis wind up the hillside to Il Gatto Nero . It serves specialities from the surrounding region, such as ravioli with ossobuco and saffron, and has become popular among visiting celebrities thanks to its view of the lake.

For a different perspective, take to the water. Ferries link Como to the Alto Lago (‘High Lake’), its northernmost shore. But, if budget allows, the transport mode of choice are Riva runabouts . High-end hotels offer private rides on these mahogany speedboats as part of their activity programmes. Otherwise, companies like Como Classic Boats pick visitors up from almost any hamlet with a dock.

Among the most prettiest is Torno , on the western shore, with red-tiled roofs and a waterfront bell tower. It’s opposite Passalaqua ; built in the 18th century for a scion of local nobility, this villa was crowned the world’s top hotel by The World’s 50 Best in 2023, a year after opening. A glimpse is all you’ll get, as only guests are allowed in, but as an alternative visit Villa d’Este , the lake’s historic grand dame hotel. Further down the shores, highlights include Villa Carlotta and neoclassical Villa del Balbianello , which juts out on a promontory in Ossuccio.

A former fishing community, Ossuccio is also a gateway to Isola Comacina and UNESCO-listed Sacro Monte di Ossuccio , 14 chapels leading to a hillside sanctuary. From its waterfront, the view is a snapshot of what makes Lake Como so alluring: the unassuming hamlets next to larger-than-life villas, and the green, wooded hills sloping down to the deep-blue water. In the distance, always in view, are the Alps. From the Roman Empire to modern-day Hollywood, it’s a scene that’s charmed through the ages.

3 highlights not to miss in Lake Como

1. Teatro Sociale Como’s 19th-century theatre has always had a special affinity with the opera. This summer, it’ll join other venues across the country in marking 100 years since the death of Giacomo Puccini with an open-air production of Turandot, the composer’s final masterpiece.

2. Villa Carlotta The 20-acre botanical garden of Villa Carlotta is a much-loved retreat on the lake. There are monumental trees, a citrus tunnel and a path among the ferns, but it’s most famous for its azaleas, which bloom into full cushions of red, white and pink for a few weeks each May.

3. Isola Comacina The lake’s only island is mostly uninhabited, but its trails lead past olives, lindens and laurels, as well as houses for short-term artists in residence. Every June, the popular San Giovanni Festival reenacts a fire that devastated the island in the 12th century with a red-tinted firework display.

For the occasion, Swift wore a classic trench coat from British brand Palmer//Harding paired with a black mini dress by Alaïa, and accessorized with Versace ballerina flats . She also wore a Cartier necklace and a Jacquie Aiche pave diamond mini hoop that featured the letter "T"—which could stand for Taylor or Travis., and carried a Versace bag ( the Medusa small tote ).

After their romantic stay in Lake Como, Swift and Kelce parted ways—Swift for her Eras tour stop in Stockholm, Sweden, and Kelce for his "KelceJam" in Kansas City. On stage, Kelce told the crowd , "Throughout all my years in [Kansas City], life could be no better than right the f—k now," perhaps referencing his romance with the famous pop star.

On his podcast New Heights this week, Travis told his brother, Jason, about attending the Eras Tour in Paris. "It is absolutely unbelievable. I enjoyed every bit of it," he said. "I don't know if they're just getting better or if I just keep forgetting how they are." (Paris was his fifth time attending his girlfriend's concert.)

"I'll tell you what, Kansas City showed out, Argentina was unbelievable, Australia, they party with the best of them and they celebrate with the best of them. Those three were unbelievable," Kelce said. "Singapore was so unique and so fun and then Paris was just on a whole 'nother level, man. I'm just happy for everybody that's in the 'Eras Tour' that's performing, from the dancers to the band and obviously, Taylor. It just looks like they're having so much fun out there, and they're absolutely killing it. They're putting on a show that you won't get anywhere else."

The next Eras Tour stop is in Lisbon, Portugal this upcoming weekend; it's as yet unclear when Kelce will rejoin Swift in Europe.

Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, dined on the finest cuisine during their date night at Lake Como’s Locanda La Tirlindana restaurant.

The “Cruel Summer” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs star had a romantic night out, eating octopus with sliced cherry tomatoes on Wednesday.

Locanda La Tirlindana is one of the most popular restaurants on Lake Como, reserved and with private access from the lake by boat.

The restaurant’s pasta is handmade daily by chef Patricia and the eatery features an exquisite selection of wines.

Locanda La Tirlindana has intimate seating indoors and outdoors, with each table lit by candlelight.

On Wednesday, Swift and Kelce — who went public last September — were seen packing on the PDA during a romantic boat ride on Lake Como to the restaurant.

The three-time Super Bowl champ and the Grammy winner, both 34, were spotted holding hands as they made their way down to the docks in front of  their $21,000-per-night private villa.

While waiting for their boat, Kelce and Swift posed for photos, with the athlete throwing up the peace sign as he had his arm around his girlfriend’s shoulders.

During their time on the vessel, the pair shared a kiss and cozied up to one another as they kept themselves dry in the rainy weather.

On Friday, Swift is set to kick off three nights of her Eras Tour in Stockholm, Sweden.

It’s unclear if Kelce will be present for any of the pop star’s Sweden tour stops, as he is hosting Kelce Jam in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday.

All About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Romantic Italy Getaway — and the Storied Celeb Hotspot They Chose

The pair were spotted sharing a kiss on a boat Friday during their mini vacation between stops on the European leg of Swift's Eras Tour

best lake como boat tours

  • Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce enjoyed Lake Como earlier this week
  • The two explored both via foot and boat
  • Actor George Clooney also has a home in the area

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have been exploring one of Italy’s most exclusive celebrity hotspots together.

On Wednesday, May 15, the pair, both 34, were spotted with their arms around each other as they strolled the streets near Italy's Lake Como , according to photos obtained by PEOPLE. A few days later, they were also seen sharing a kiss on a boat ride in the popular summer vacation destination on Friday, May 17.

Following the Tortured Poets Department singer's sold-out shows in Paris on May 9 and 10, she and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end jetted off to the Northern Italian locale — and famed A-lister haunt — for a few days' R&R, before heading to Stockholm for her next tour date.

On their most recent outing, the couple were photographed making their way across the lake in a speed boat, sheltering from the rain, before disembarking on a dock, where the NFL star offered the Grammy winner his hand to help her step out.

During the ride, the pair sat close, Kelce with his arm around his girlfriend, and kissed as another person onboard snapped a photo for them.

Swift and Kelce are far from the only celebrity couple to enjoy Lake Como's idyllic location and luxurious hospitality offerings.

George Clooney and Amal Clooney are among the area's most famous residents, as the actor has been a part of the community since 2002.

The northern Italian spot is known for its Art Nouveau and Renaissance architecture and stunning villas. In fact, Clooney owns two. He reportedly bought Villa Oleandra in 2002 for approximately $10 million, according to The Washington Post , which reported that the star’s arrival to Lake Como led to a real estate boom, in which asking prices doubled, according to the mayor of the town of Laglio.

He later purchased a property next door, making it “one of the largest private homes in the area,” according to The Wall Street Journal . The 25-room villa's value was estimated at more than $100 million in 2022, according to the outlet .

Surrounded by mountains, Lake Como’s foothills are dotted with dreamy villas that also boast stunning water views. Many of the homes that would draw Italian aristocrats and nobles to the destination in the eighteenth century are now luxury hotels.

Today, several of the region’s resorts have earned illustrious titles, including in Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2023 .

A-listers have also been known to plan their weddings overlooking Italy’s third largest lake. To name a few, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen tied the knot at at Villa Pizzo in 2013 and Selling the OC Star Alexandra Jarvis married Sergio Ducoulombier at the iconic Villa del Balbianello in 2023.

Last summer, Beyoncé and JAY-Z were among more Hollywood royalty to visit Lake Como .  They filled their trip with activities, including a relaxing dinner with friends where the group chatted and admired the lake together.

Swift and Kelce have been on a handful of other romantic vacations together in recent months. In March, they were snapped walking hand-in-hand during an island getaway in the Bahamas.

“They vacationed in the Bahamas for several days," a source told PEOPLE of the trip at the time. "It was a much-needed break for both of them. They very much enjoyed it. They are so happy together.”

The couple's March vacation came after they spent time traveling the world together as Swift continues her Eras Tour . Earlier this year, they spent time kicking back together between the pop superstar's shows in Australia and Singapore in February and March.

Swift's Eras Tour resumes with three shows in Stockholm from May 17-19, and she'll continue performing in Europe through August, before launching the second North American leg.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end raved about the “unbelievable” food, saying a butter ravioli dish was particularly “amazing.”

“It’s the best food and the best views in the world,” he said of the area. However, his favorite part of his European adventure was seeing Swift perform at her Eras Tour concert in Paris, which he attended with friends Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper.

“Taylor’s shows are unbelievable,” he raved. “If you haven’t been to them, you gotta try them.”

Swift is still currently touring through Europe, stopping this weekend in Stockholm, Sweden, but Kelce said she told him that he should “go out and have fun” at his Jam.

“She wishes she was here, I know that, but she’s got a lot of people she’s performing for,” he admitted. The Tortured Poets Department star has done quite a bit of traveling back-and-forth to support Kelce during the normal NFL season, but this was a little too tight schedule-wise.

This is the second annual Kelce Jam, headlined by Lil Wayne, Diplo, and 2 Chainz, held at the Azura Amphitheater and presented by Jim Beam. The event is intended as a thank you to fans of the Chiefs and Kelce himself and it’s both a concert, a food festival, and interactive experience.

“It’s always been a desire to throw a party for KC. They give me so much support during the season and they get Arrowhead rocking,” Kelce said of the show. “I’ve always wanted to give them something outside of the season to excited for and have some fun with.”

Valery Kaufman Wore Dior Haute Couture to Marry at an Enchanted Mosaic Garden in Lake Como

By Alexandra Macon

Model Valery Kaufman and commodities trader Dimitri Varsano met exactly two years and seven months ago, during the Venice Film Festival. “We were brought together by chance as our mutual friends briefly introduced us,” Valery remembers. “We were seated at the same table at the amFAR charity dinner, and I went on stage to auction a jacket that had belonged to Mick Jagger. It had pink and silver stripes, and no one raised their hand for the longest minute, and then Dimitri came to my rescue. As soon as he raised his hand, other people chimed in, and in the end, it sold pretty quickly.”

They met again during Paris Fashion Week. Dimitri knew Valery was traveling to Paris with her dog Cosmo, so he sent a bunch of gifts to her hotel room and jokingly referred to himself as the “dog walker” in the process. “That’s when we got to know each other and our relationship went from being friends to realizing we’d fallen in love with each other,” Valery explains. “After just talking to him, I felt like I’d known him forever.”

Dimitri proposed to Valery right around their one-year anniversary while on a boat tour of Lake Como. It was Valery’s first time in the famous Italian resort area known for its dramatic scenery, and they were spending a weekend there together. “I did have a feeling that a proposal might happen, but I was expecting it to be in the evening at the restaurant full of candles and flowers,” says Valery, noting that she even brought a special dress just in case the occasion arose. But instead, it happened the morning after the couple arrived. “The night before, Dimitri told me that he’d booked the boat tour, which we had to go to early, and then we were going to come back for lunch at the hotel, so I didn’t brush my hair or look at myself in the mirror,” Valery remembers. “I just put on whatever was on top of my luggage and ran.” During the boat tour, while they were admiring the castles along the shoreline, Dimitri proposed. “He made me the happiest girl in the world!” Valery adds.

The couple returned to Lake Como for their wedding on May 11 at Villa D’Este in Cernobbio, after around seven months of preparation. “The most difficult part for us was landing on the right location,” Valery says. “The choice was between the south of France with its beautiful beaches and Lake Como. [My feeling is] do everything the way you and your heart wants, not the way everyone else advises. And if you want to hold a wedding abroad, [in a place that feels] torn from the hustle and bustle of modern life, you will not regret your decision for a second!”

The choice of Como for the location didn’t come without a few risks and worries, however. May is considered the rainy season. “I had been tracking the weather forecast for months prior to the wedding,” Valery admits. “We had a Plan B to hold the ceremony inside the hotel in case it rains, but that was obviously not have been as stunning.” The day the bride arrived in Como, it was indeed raining, and there were thunderstorms predicted. But just like in a fairy tale, the clouds parted for the perfect weekend weather-wise.

The couple worked with the Evelyne Layani Organization to plan the entire wedding weekend. “It’s a family business that is run by wonderful women with great vision,” Valery says. “We are really proud and lucky to have worked with some of the most creative, innovative, and just plain lovely people to plan the wedding of our dreams.”

After choosing the location, the bride began her quest to find the perfect dress. “Working in the fashion industry for years, I always adored and was in awe of Christian Dior designs,” Valery says. “They are so elegant and celebrate women's bodies, so I chose to have a haute couture Christian Dior dress. I had a clear idea of what I wanted and the execution was better than I could have imagined.” Meanwhile, Olivier Rousteing and his team at Balmain created three dresses for Valery to wear across the weekend—each one had a different style, shape, and form, but what tied them all together was the symbol of a white rose.

Dimitri wore a made-to-measure Dior suit. “He has a very conservative style so it fit him perfectly,” Valery says. The bride’s makeup was done by her friend Georgi Sandev. “It was important for me to have close friends with me during this special moment,” she says.

Before the ceremony, Valery and her mother shared a private moment as she put on her dress. “We both started to cry,” the bride says. “The emotions got extra intense.” Afterwards, Valery took her godfather by his hand, and they began her walk down the aisle. “He was so sweet and nervous, asking me every second if he was walking too fast. It was very good to have him distract me from getting too emotional.”

Upon reaching the end of the aisle, Valery remembers locking eyes with Dmitri and feeling an overwhelming sense of peace. “I just imagined we were alone in the room, and I was speaking to him from the heart and that made me feel so calm and loved,” she recalls. “All I was thinking is I know I’m marrying the right man and that second I was just trying to enjoy every single moment of the day.” The couple exchanged their vows while friends and family looked on, and many of them were so touched they were brought to tears. After the ceremony, everyone moved to the pool area for pictures, cocktails, dinner, and dancing.

Looking back on the weekend now, the wedding was just as Valery dreamed. “I felt boundless happiness—it was like a wonderful holiday!” she says. “We are getting used to our new status as husband and wife. I can’t describe the difference after the wedding, but I am overflowing with love and warmth.”
