Disneyland Crowd Calendar:  Best Time To Go To Disneyland

Planning the perfect family trip to Disneyland can be overwhelming and knowing when the best time to go to Disneyland can seem like an impossible task.  When going to Disneyland, everyone wants the trip and experience to be the best value possible.  And unless you are a regular park goer, you may not know when that is.

Whether you want to go in the summer months for your family vacation to the West Coast or Christmastime to take park in the seasonal foods and enjoy the Christmas decor, like no one else but Disney can do, we have the guide for you.  We put together a calendar that shows the best time to go to Disneyland during the whole year, including peak travel times.

Historically January is the coldest month of the year in most places across the United States.  In California, cold is relational. For some, who are used to more tropical climates, its pretty cold and for those from cooler climates, it won’t seem so bad.  With day time highs reaching an average of 68°F/20°C, after the sun goes down it gets positively chilly at an average of 48°F/9°C, so make sure you are dressing in layers.  This weather does not deter the crowds at Disneyland either, so be prepared to still have contend with crowds at particular times of the month.  If this weather has you wanting more, keep reading.

The beginning of January, you will still be able to see the end of the Christmas season at Disneyland.  The decorations start to come down right after New Year’s and the crowds know it.  The first week starting with January first is pretty busy that whole week.  Kids are still out of school, parents still on vacations, and Disneyland is still a winter wonderland.  If this is the only time you can make it, check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar below and consider California Adventure instead, as it will be busy but less so than the main park.  We advise going early in the day and to avoid the actual New Year’s Day, to counter as much of the crowds as possible.

Also, Run Disney takes place January 8-12.  This event will have runners from the morning in the park with their families and supporters afterwards.  Make sure to take that increased traffic into consideration if you choose to go in January.

During the middle two weeks of the month, the best time to go to Disneyland is Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday’s start a long weekend and Monday’s ends it.  The end of the month, the crowd index starts to go down and Monday through Thursday is typically better for crowds at Disneyland.

California winter starts to trend warmer as the month progresses.  When considering the Disneyland Crowd Calendar, keep in mind while the daytime this month starts to get a little warmer as averages hit 71°F/22°C.  Nighttime still hovers around the same 48°F/9°C respectively.  Another month to still dress in layers and be prepared for chilly evenings while navigating lighter evening crowds at Disneyland.

The first two weeks are good weeks to go to Disneyland with average crowds on the weekend and slightly below average crowds at Disneyland during mid-week.  As Valentine’s Day rolls into the month, so does the busiest week of the month.  That third week of February, expect to see an above average ranking on the Disneyland Crowd Calendar.  The third week of February celebrates President’s Day and with all the three-day weekends, the crowds at Disneyland go up and stay up that whole week.

That last week of February, everything starts to go back to a normal crowd pace, with mid-week being the best and the flanking weekends having the higher traffic.  February, overall, is one of the months that is the best time to go to Disneyland, if you are looking for a balance between cooler weather and less crowds at Disneyland.  Make sure you head to New Orleans Square at the end of the month and see all the fun Mardi Gras themed decorations and try the themed food!

Spring is in the air everywhere, including Disneyland.  Spring weather definitely excites the Disneyland crowds.  With the weather beginning to be ideal this time of year, the crowds reflect that warming trend and start to really pick up during the daytime.  Daytime temperatures reaching 73°F/23°C and nighttime around 51°F/11°C at its coldest, even the evening crowds at Disneyland start to get busier.

The month of March comes with a lot of events and action.  March will start off with average to slightly above average traffic.  With the first Saturday being a busy day.   That first Saturday is typically Gay-Day, a non-Disney sponsored event, but an event that drives traffic just the same.  On this Saturday, traffic will definitely be up and park goers celebrating this unofficial event.  Make sure you check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar below for any updates that may happen with this day.

Mid March brings Spring Break for a lot of schools, local and otherwise and with that comes more people in the park.  March is one of the most consistent months with crowds at Disneyland hitting peak traffic only sporadically. Spring Break is happening, traditionally the Food and Wine Festival at California Adventure starts, which is guaranteed to bring some additional crowds for both parks.

March will start with average to slightly above average crowds at Disneyland, with mid month to the end really increasing to very high foot traffic days.  This will be a very busy time and will continue to see increased crowds going int the summer months.  Always check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar to see the day you want to go and how the traffic is expected to be.

Weather is even better in April than it was in March and now you can see why Walt Disney chose to build his park in Anaheim, CA.  Daytime temperatures will reach 75°F/25°C with nighttime still being a little cooler at 53°F/13°C.  During the day will be warm enough to walk around in shorts and a t-shirt, but after the sun sets you will want to make sure you have some layers to keep you comfortable as you traverse the park at night.  With the warmer days, the cooler nights do not deter the crowds at Disneyland.

Starting the first couple weeks of April, Disneyland does an Eggstravaganza event leading into Easter.  This will have more parents and young children in the park as they take part in this Disney themed event.  This will not overwhelm the park with traffic, though you will most likely still see some increased numbers as the Food and Wine Festival continues at California Adventure.  After the Eggstravaganza event ends as Easter passes, the following weekend will be Dapper Day.

Dapper Day will definitely see increased crowds as people dress up in their favorite vintage era and enjoy the park.  While this is not a Disney sponsored event, it is a fun time for all.  If you happen to go or want to see the park-goers dressed up, this is guaranteed to be a fun day as you see the many eras of the 20 th century and listen to overly courteous participants as they reminisce about a time gone by.

Overall, April is a lovely time of year weather-wise to attend the park.  Beginning of the month will see a slight above average crowd at Disneyland, mid-month will see a slight decrease with the month finishing up much lighter in crowds, which is nice right before summer starts to sneak in.  Please check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar below to see which of the days really appeal to you for your particular travel plans.

The weather is really getting warm now and dare we say hot?  With the average day hitting 77°F/25°C and nighttime at a much warmer than previous at 58°F/14°C, you will want to dress appropriately and make sure you hydrate.  With all the walking, heat, incoming humidity, and the crowds at Disneyland you will want to make sure to drink plenty of water.  Well there are a lot of shady spots in the park, they are guaranteed to be just as crowded as the pathways.

May is a busy month for Disneyland Crowd Calendar.  Not only are the warmer days and summer breaks increasing the crowd count, holidays and park sponsored events will keep this park hopping.  During the month of May you can expect there to be busy some peak days with above average traffic, with weekends being exceptionally busy.

May will start of with Bats Day on May 3 rd .  This day is an unofficial Disney event, but will be guaranteed to drive increased traffic.  If you are wondering what Bats Day is, it is a day dedicated to Gothic and Emo park attendees.  This day will be sure to have many people dressed in black and dark makeup, but always fun to see and recollect your days of youth.  Right after Bats Day, is Cinco de Mayo.  There are no park events scheduled for this holiday, but will most likely have increased crowds at Disneyland.  Mother’s Day is also Sunday, May 10.  Disneyland is a destination for mothers so expect to see the traffic increase sometime late morning.

From the middle of May to the end, Disney Parks host Grad Nite .  While California Adventure is the official host of these events, there will most likely be a surge in traffic in both parks as park goers start their day early or re-enter after it ends.  May also has Memorial Day, celebrated on May 25 th , that weekend will definitely have busier crowds as park attendees will have three day weekends.

As the whole month of May can fluctuate with traffic, make sure you check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar for the time that suits you and when the hosted Grad Nites are.  If you are going in May, typically, the weekdays, while busy, will still offer the least amount of crowd traffic.

June brings us halfway into the year and definitely into warmer weather as summer really starts to heat up.  At 81°F/27°C average during the day and 61°F/16°C averages during the night, the weather is definitely getting warmer.  Our advice about water and shade definitely carries over to this month.

There aren’t a whole lot of events this month, Grad Nite continues the remainder of this month and the same traffic patterns will continue with potential crowd surges during the day.  Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 21 st and will most likely see more traffic in the midday.  While events are light, crowds are heavy.  Summer is now in swing, school is out and families start their vacations.  Almost every day will see above average crowds at Disneyland.  Our Disneyland Crowd Calendar below will show you the busiest days and you can determine which you would like to avoid or attend.

July brings even hotter weather and warmer nights.  Daily averages around 86°F/30°C and nighttime around 65°F/18°C.  The weather is hot, humidity will be up and so will crowds.  It is now more important than ever to stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing and sun protection.

July is another month light on events and it’s a good thing too as crowds will already be hitting close to capacity numbers with the summertime breaks.  The whole month of July is the busiest month of the summer.  The Fourth of July has the park regaled in red, white, and blue with specialty treats available for purchase.  The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days in the park, so if you want to go to enjoy the décor and food, be prepared to navigate the crowds at Disneyland.

Disneyland also celebrates its birthday on July 17 th .  There will be special souvenirs available to purchase and a possible slightly higher crowd count as Disney loyalists come to celebrate the day.  Even with these days being the only events for the park, the Disneyland Crowd Calendar will reflect those above average crowd counts.  If you absolutely must go to the parks in July, consider a Park Hopper pass, that way when the crowds at Disneyland overwhelm you, you can head to California Adventure, which will be slightly less crowded.

August brings us the hottest month of the year and unbelivebaly the park will start to ease up in crowds as the month progresses.  August temperatures hit 87°F/30°C averages during the day and 65°F/18°C during the night.  However, this heat will not stop the crowds early in the month at Disneyland and while the temperature and other summer activities will start to reduce park goer counts, August will still be busy.

This month brings us the start of the CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County) Walk in the Park.  While these events happen early in the morning before it heats up, the event attendees inevitably stay in the park after their event.  With this even drawing not only the participants, but their family, friends, and cheerleaders, the park will definitely hit peak capacity that day.  While the event has yet TBD for 2020, it is usually within the first two weeks of the month.

For the month of August, there will be higher and lower than average crowds at Disneyland.  If you’re looking to go to the park in the summer make sure you check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar for the best time to go to Disneyland this particular month.

September brings us into the last hot month of the year.  With the temperatures from August averages carrying over into September, you can look forward to a very slightly cooler nighttime.   87°F/30°C during the day, renders the same as August and 63°F/16°C during the night, is virtually the same.  This heat, will definitely keep you looking for shade and beverages, so make sure to drink and wear your sunscreen in that hot California sun.

After Labor Day, September 7, the crowds reduce considerably.  With school back in session, most days hit average park crowds and some times below average.  Halloweentime is now going and the park is decorated in all of its Halloween Glory.  Mid September to the end of September is a great time to see the park in all this splendor.  Right before the major Halloweentime crowds really begin.  If you’re looking for the best time to go to Disneyland, this might just be the month.  Warmer days, slightly cooler nights, festive decorations, and lower crowd count all make for a great experience.  Hands down one of the best times to visit the park.  Check out the Disneyland Crowd Calendar below to see just how light some of the traffic days can be.

This month you start to see a much greater cooling trend.  82°F/28°C during the day and 58°F/14°C during the evening, the temperature swing after the sunset is now noticeable.  While the warmer days have you dressed in summer attire, the cooler night begs for you to have layers ready to keep you insulated after that sun sets.

The beginning of October starts with the second unofficial Disney event of Gay Day.  Usually the first weekend of the month, traffic is definitely up this weekend as the LGBTQ community and allies are there to show their support for love.

Hallweentime is in full swing this month and so are the crowds.  If you are more of a holiday traditionalist and want to see the Halloween décor during the month of Halloween, look to go midweek and avoid the weekends.  While the park gets more crowded and the month progresses, the lightest days still invariably fall on the weekdays.  Weekends still being traversed by parents and their children who are no longer off for the summer, guarantees a busier experience.

A newer Disney event is Plaza de la Familia .  This event typically takes place during Hallweentime, though dates for 2020 have yet to be released.  This event celebrates Pixars “Coco” and family.  With Mexican specialty treats and a focus on Hispanic traditions, expect to see many park goers there to celebrate either their heritage or support others.  Make sure you check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar to see when this event is, once the dates have been determined.

Unbelievably, the best time to go to Disneyland in October is closer to Halloween on October 31 st .  Crowds start to die down, usually thinking that the park will be busier.

November brings a much cooler days and nights.  Daytime highs typically stay at 82°F/27°C  and nighttime with temperatures drop lower to the 52°F/11°C range.  While the days are still warm, evening is much cooler, making evident that a typical California winter is heading in.  Dress in layers and stop to get a hot coco after the sunsets to warm your bones.

The middle of November is another one of those best times to go to Disneyland.  Traffic is lighter as Halloweentime ends and Christmastime is yet to begin.  While the first week starts to see the transition happen with Halloween to Christmas, the crowds are busier.  The second Dapper Day of the year happens in November.  This unsponsored event typically takes place early in the month and falls on the first weekend.  Have the same expectations as before.  Increased crowds that day, but amazing costuming to view.

As the month progresses, more Christmastime decorations will appear and the crowds will stay low until right before Thanksgiving.  Come the week of Thanksgiving and you will be sure to see the whole park regaled in its festive decorations and also crowds will jump from minimal to above average seemingly overnight.  Thanksgiving (and the weekend that follows) is one of the other busiest days of the year for the park, so avoid going this day and weekend if at all possible.

And now the last month of the year, December, temperatures dip to 70°F/21°C during the day with a chilly 47°F/8°C average during the night.  Another big temperature swing, your teeth are sure to be chattering after the sun goes down if you are not attired properly.  Many attendees will put coats in lockers to put on once that weather turns cooler.  Scarves and mittens are a common site at the park during this month.

The month of December has minimal events, the park is mostly centered around Christmastime food and decorations.  Crowds will die down after Thanksgiving and make the park one of the best times to go to Disneyland at the beginning of the month.  The cooler weather and amazing decorations will transport you to another time and place.

Most weekdays traffic is moderate with some lighter days peppered in.  Weekends are busy as usual with the busiest time the last ten days of the year.  Disneyland will typically hit capacity from the week before Christmas to New Years, making this definitely one of the busiest times of the year to attend the park.  If you have to go this particular time, make sure you check the Disneyland Crowd Calendar for December to pick the days that will be the most manageable for your plans.

Best Time of Year to Visit Disneyland Anaheim

Here is a month-by-month breakdown of the crowd conditions at Disneyland in California.

The first days of January come with huge crowds due to the Holidays at Disneyland Resort. Christmas decorations are still up and all the fun and magic of the season lasts until January 6. The holiday crowds start dropping after this point. Skip those days of the month along with the ones surrounding MLK Jr. festive day.  

The second month of the year is a great time to visit. Not many people go to the park in February due to schools being in session and the chilly weather. Crowds will start to pick up the weekend before President’s day and they will ease up after this holiday.

The only recommended time of the month to hit the park is the first week when schools are still in. Later in March, Spring Break season starts, schools are out, and many families decide to come to Disneyland because of the nice weather. The park gets super busy this holiday season.

Spring break season finishes with Easter Sunday, until then, Disneyland is very crowded. April is a beautiful time to hit the park, the weather is warm and sunny, but to avoid a very busy Disneyland consider visiting a few days after Easter.

The first three weeks of May are safe to visit the park due to its lack of special events. Nevertheless, the final stage of the month brings multitudes to the park, since families take advantage of Memorial Day weekend to travel. Furthermore, summer break starts in most schools, and during this holiday crowds start to boost.

June and July

These months are the busiest of the year along with the first two weeks of August and the Christmas season. All schools are out and families plan their vacation around these dates. During June and July and the start of August, expect wait times of at least 1 to 3 hours for every ride and similar lines for food ordering and shopping. All this in the very heat of summer.

Consider traveling to Disneyland during the last two weeks of August. By this time, schools are going back in session. Crowds will slowly start to decrease as families go back to their normal routine and summer goes into fall.  

September is one of the best times of the year to visit Disneyland because kids are back to school, the summer holidays are over, and it is very difficult for families to travel around this period. The only few days in September to avoid, are those surrounding Labor Day, especially the weekend before the holiday. The rest of the month should have light crowds.

The crowds will start picking up, as it gets closer to Halloween. People love visiting Disneyland in October because of the family-friendly Halloween events around the park. Along with hundreds of spooky jack-o-lanterns and beautiful fall decorations, there are characters in costumes, an overlay for Haunted Mansion, and  the night spectacular “Halloween Screams”. 

The main event that draws people to Disneyland this month is Thanksgiving. Disneyland will remain busy until the first days of December, after Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Expect light crowds in the first weeks of November.

December is one of the busiest months in the park because of the Christmas and New Year’s season. Around the second week, the park starts to pack up. The crowds will not get any lighter until the holidays are over, in fact, the week following Christmas into the New Year is the busiest week of the month.

Usually, this season has the same wait times as the summer holidays, ranging from 1 to 3 hours to ride, and great delays when you are ordering food or shopping for souvenirs.

Despite the swarm of people, December is the most magical time of the year at Disneyland . The Christmas decorations, activities, merchandise, and treats are a couple of explaining factors to why the park is so popular in this season.

Moreover, there is a magical “ Christmas fantasy parade ”, where the Disney characters join Santa, ride overlays for Haunted Mansion and It’s a Small World, “Believe” the nighttime spectacular with fireworks and snowfall, the “Wintertime Enchantment” at Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle and so much more.

How to Get to Disneyland

These are the main airports to choose from to get to Disneyland: 

• John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA) – 15 Miles from the park. 
• Long Beach Airport (LGB) – 25 Miles from the park. 
• Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) – 35 Miles from the park. 
• Hollywood Burbank Airport, Bob Hope Airport (BUR) – 45 Miles from the park.  

Drive times vary depending on the time of day. On-site car rental, taxis, and rideshares are available at all airports.

Uber and Lyft are convenient options. Consider checking the price of both before deciding. Prices will vary depending on the time of day.

Shuttle services can be reserved in advance. Lansky shuttle car service has a complimentary 30 minute grocery/fast food stop on the way to the hotel and they provide car seats. Karmal Shuttle car service only goes to LAX and John Wayne Airport and they don’t provide car seats.

1. Download the Disneyland App

You can and will do everything from the Disneyland app ( Apple Store | Android store ) before you leave, while you are there, and even when you get home. Mobile ordering snacks and meals is super easy. Check ride times, use the map to get around, and reserve lightening lane passes through Genie+.

2. Get acquainted with the park map.

If you notice that a ride’s line time is short and it is in a land that is close to where you are, you should head there.

3. Use the lockers

Take advantage of the lockers that are in the park. There is one set in the cul-de-sac between Market House and Disney Clothiers and another to the left of the ticket turnstiles before you enter the park.

4. Go on the popular rides first

The first 2-3 hours the park is open are the golden hours when the lines will be the shortest. Go on the most popular rides early to avoid long lines later.

Where to Stay Near Disneyland

There are many options for great places to stay near Disneyland , but we definitely recommend staying at a Disney hotel if at all possible.

The three Disney-owned on-site hotels are The Disneyland Hotel , The Grand Californian and Paradise Pier . All three offer early entry to both parks for their guests. The Disneyland Hotel and The Grand Californian offer wonderful dining options as well as character dining.

If you want to stay right across the street from the park, try the Park Vue Inn (3-minute walk) or the Best Western Plus Park Place Inn-Mini Suites (4-minute walk).

Final Thoughts

Overall, to outsmart the crowds, skip going to Disneyland on any holiday or within a range of one to two weeks before and after this season, depending on the length of the festivity.

Avoid weekends, visit always during the week. Passholders tend to hit the parks on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday. If you start your vacation on a Monday and are going to visit both Anaheim parks, Disneyland, and Disney’s California Adventure, visit California Adventure first and Disneyland afterward.

Anaheim Bus Station (located at 2626 E Katella Ave) is on the Greyhound national bus network, so you should be able to catch services from most parts of the country. If you are coming from LAX, the Disneyland Resort Express is another option. It takes an hour and costs $20.

Located in New Orleans Square in Disneyland, Club 33 is both an architectural masterpiece and an amazing dining experience.

Seascape is a facility meant to tire out your children so you can peacefully explore the rest of Anaheim.

Reminiscent of a larger Check-E-Cheese, Seascape has a lot of play areas for your little ones to enjoy.

There are ball pits and pizza pies for everyone, and the only downside is that you may be too big to have fun as well!

But watching the children in your group jump around the bouncy house or slide down the huge tunnels over and over again is worth every second.

Before you venture over to Seascape, however, don’t forget to wear socks, as they are required to enter the play areas, and please have everyone who is participating dressed in pants.

The last thing you want to do is get friction burn on your way down the rubber slide.

The sister park to the original Disneyland was established in 2001 and given the name the Disney California Adventure Park .

So it is best if you travel to the California Adventure park earlier in the year.

Built on the Founders’ Park acreage in 1857, the Mother Colony House is said to be one of Anaheim’s first homes, followed by the Woelke-Stoffel house built in 1894.

When you are walking through the massive grounds, you will notice the Moreton Bay fig tree and its enormous spatial occupancy.

1. Visit Anaheim’s Star Attraction – Disneyland Park

The most famous place in Anaheim is by far Disneyland Park (originally known as just Disneyland).

The park itself is the only one that was designed and then built under the watchful eye of Walt Disney himself.

The park has gone through several renovations and expansions since it first opened in 1955 and throughout the years it has seen more visitors in total than any other theme park in the world.

There are eight themed lands within the park each with their own unique characteristics and style.

Getting around Disneyland in just one day is an impossible task so always allow for at least a couple of days when you visit.

2. Catch A Game At The Angel Stadium

The Angel Stadium of Anaheim is home to the Los Angeles Angels. The stadium is the fourth oldest in Major League Baseball and has hosted Major League Baseball All-Star Games in the past.

At the stadium there is a 230 foot sign that has a halo quite near the top of it.

Each time the Angel’s win either at home or away the halo is lit up in honor of the victory.

If ice hockey is more your taste then just opposite the Angel Stadium is the Honda Center.

The center opened in June 1993 and the first performance ever was a concert by Barry Manilow.

The City National Grove of Anaheim is an indoor live music venue that has a capacity of just 1,700.

Originally the venue was home to a restaurant called Tinseltown which was a themed restaurant, designed to look like an awards show, alas the restaurant failed and so the music venue was born.

Sometimes you just need a break from it all and a good trip around the shops seems to fix everything.

The Anaheim GardenWalk is an outdoor shopping center that has many places to shop.

Unfortunately although this may be an amazing experience it is not open to everyone in Anaheim.

Club 33 is an exclusive, private members club in the middle of New Orleans Square in Disneyland.

You enter the club by pressing a buzzer that is hidden under a panel and then you take a ride in a glass elevator.

You can dine at the exclusive club as well as receiving preferential treatment at the theme park as well.

The bad news is that there is a fourteen year waiting list to become a member of the club so you could be in for a wait if you wish to become a part of the club.

12. Spend The Day At Yorba Regional Park

In the mouth of the Santa Ana Canyon is Yorba Regional Park, a park that stretches out over 140 acres and captures perfectly the Santa Ana River that runs alongside the park.

There are over 400 picnic tables within the park and many are in the shade allowing for a peaceful lunch to be had with family and friends.

One of the highlights of the park are the four lakes and streams that run through the area, these give you an opportunity for many hours of fishing.

13. Find The Freshest Produce In Town

One of the best kept secrets in Anaheim is the Thursday Downtown Anaheim Certified Farmers Market.

Each Thursday for more than nineteen years the market has been open from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

If you are looking to try something a bit different why not give sea fishing a try.

Davey’s Locker offer sporting trips that take you out on the sea for the day with a chance of catching some rather big fish.

All equipment is supplied so you just need to turn up and let the experts take care of everything. You can fish for Sand Bass, Yellowtail or Tuna.

The staff know exactly where to go to get the best fish and the biggest catches.

If you want to keep any fish the on-board staff will happily gut and clean the fish for you or you can throw them back in the water and wait for the next bite.

22. Get A Hole In One At Camelot Golf Land

The largest miniature golf course facility in the country is at Camelot Golf Land in Anaheim.

There are some great courses to try your hand at including a castle themed course and a jungle or safari course.

The courses are excellently maintained and the staff are friendly and helpful.

When you have finished your games of golf you can enter the 5000 square foot laser tag arena and see if you can blast your opponents away.

The whole venue has a ton of things to do and people of all ages will get to enjoy all the activities on offer.

23. Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament

Just outside Anaheim in Buena Park is a crazy place that could easily be called North America’s number one dinner attraction.

Here you can have a two hour dinner adventure that is based around the glory of the middle ages.

Whilst you eat your four course meal you will be treated to swordplay, pageantry and horsemanship.

There is an authentic jousting tournament that takes place using six knights of the realm.

All of the action takes place inside the castles 1,100 seat auditorium.

A mom of six through birth and adoption, family travel specialist, self-proclaimed chocolate chip cookie connoisseur, Disney lover, and, I hope to be, your new best friend.

When most people think of Anaheim, there is one attraction that comes to mind; Disneyland . This may come as a surprise, but there is WAY more to Anaheim being a top family vacation destination than just a theme park!

We spend a lot of time in this area as a family and have uncovered some incredible activities. That being said, I am so excited to share over 35 of our favorite things to do in Anaheim beyond Disneyland below!

35 Amazing Things To Do in Anaheim

We love Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park even more than most, but the truth is Anaheim has SO MUCH MORE to offer traveling families coming in from both near and far. Here are 35 alternative family-friendly things to do in Anaheim!

1. Lessons at Vans Skatepark- Our Kiddos Favorite Thing To Do in Anaheim!

One of our kids’ favorite things to do in Anaheim is the Vans Skatepark. This massive 20,000+ square foot skatepark is a skater’s paradise.

My kids were complete beginners, but thanks to their incredible instructor Devon they had a blast! You can book private lessons on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with a Vans-certified skate instructor for $50 an hour.

My kids weren’t quite ready for the craziness but they did enjoy sliding down it on their bums!

The Vans Skatepark is located in The Outlets at Orange. You can take private lessons like we did, rent equipment, or enjoy an open skate.

2. SwingIt Trapeze Lessons

You have to experience SwingIt Trapeze ! I was completely shocked that our whole family was able to fly. The staff is incredible and will guide you step by step so that you feel completely comfortable. Check out the current class schedule here!

Trapeze wasn’t easy but the instructors are so skilled at helping you learn! Ella also enjoyed the sideshow tricks while she was waiting for her turn.

3 & 4. Catch an Angels Baseball Game or a Ducks Hockey Game

Instead of riding the roller coaster over at Disney California Adventure, why not head to a baseball game? And.. what trip would be complete without a trip to Angels Stadium of Anaheim?

Anaheim is home to the Angels and luckily the Angels Stadium is a fantastic place for families.

Sundays are family days so there are extra games and fun for the kiddos with face painting and games located in the Gate 5 Courtyard.

You can also head across the street to the Honda Center and check out the National Hockey League and see the Anaheim Ducks. If hockey isn’t your thing, the Honda Center also holds concerts throughout the year!

5. Find Instagram-Worthy Food at  the Anaheim Packing District

The Anaheim Packing House was once the Sunkist Packing House. It was built in 1919, but got a whole new look a few years ago and is now a foodie hall full of amazing artisan eateries.

You absolutely cannot visit Anaheim and not visit the Anaheim Packing District. There is always something new to discover and it is oh so tasty. Just make sure you arrive hungry!

You will want to add the Anaheim Packing House as one of your favorite things to do in Anaheim, based on the atmosphere and decor alone!

I recommend trying the K2 Cro-Nut from Pandor . Just be sure you have someone to share it with.

A Rainbow Cloud from Mini Monster is also one of our favorites. It’s a Thai Tea with boba topped with freshly spun cotton candy and fruity pebbles. You can keep sustainability in mind and buy the reusable jar, too!

You will also find the Instagram sensation known as Pop Bar at the Packing House. They serve gelato on a stick dipped in your favorite chocolate and rolled in the topping of your choice.

Take a look at all the natural light flowing in, the succulent plants, and swings… it’s so beautiful!!!

If you are in the mood for a meal I suggest checking out the artisan tacos at Urbana …

or a fresh plate of Tikka Masala from Adya . The warm fresh naan is to die for!

Flightdeck is amazing! You get to take a flight course, jump in a suit like Maverick & Goose and dog flight inside simulator pods in front of a giant screen.

My boys LOVED competing against each other. My middle son, Owen, who loves video games said this was his favorite activity all summer long. Pretty high praise if you ask me!

7. Check Out Center Street – One of the Coolest Things To Do in Anaheim!

One of the coolest things to do in Anaheim is to head to Center St. Promenade. Center St. Promenade brings together all the best of Anaheim.

This is where you will find the farmer’s market, seasonal art shows, and street fairs. Make sure you save room for Pour Vida . Their tacos and fresh-pressed juices are divine.

If you are over at the Packing House you can hop on “Polly the Trolley “ noon to 9 PM Friday-Sunday. It’s a free ride from the Packing House to Center St. Promenade and back. It leaves every 15 minutes!

8. Take the Family to Medieval Times

You can’t miss the long-time family favorite, Medieval Times ! I will admit, we had not been to Medieval Times in ages so I was shocked by how much the kids still loved the show and dinner.

The place was PACKED! The kids loved eating without silverware. I ordered their vegetarian meal, which was also delicious.

The knights are fun to watch, but what I really love is watching all of the magnificent horses. They brought out some who were literally dancing to the music. It was so beautiful to see.

No trip to Medieval Times is complete without a quick stop at the gift shop. They sell costumes and toy weapons so your kids can recreate their favorite sequences back at the hotel.

Just make sure to set some ground rules before they dive in. No heavy swings, kids! Keep it playful and light! You are going to definitely want to add Medieval Times as one of the things to do in Anaheim list! Grab discounted tickets here!

9. Grab Lunch at Dave & Buster’s & Hang Out at the Arcade

Another find in The Outlets at Orange is Dave & Buster’s . We had a delicious lunch here with the kids. They have a huge menu so there is something for everyone!

Of course… it’s not the food the kids cared about but the MASSIVE arcade. Our kids played for a good hour and a half before we could pry them off the machines. They had a blast!!

And, once they were done they got to go to the most incredible ticket redemption store I had ever seen. Ella could hardly believe she had enough tickets to buy the adorable stuffed raccoon below!

10. The Anaheim Brewery- A Stop Moms & Dads will LOVE

I know breweries are not really for the kids, but this one was too good not to mention. Anaheim Brewery is a revived prohibition brewery. Even though this stop is for the grown-ups, you can sandwich it with fun activities for the kids.

All beer is made right there on site. The founders Barbara and Greg are so passionate about brewing beer and it shows! The beers are light, airy and absolutely delicious.

11. Find Hands-On Fun at the Discovery Cube and Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center

Last but certainly not least, Anaheim offers a variety of museums and cultural centers to make learning fun for the little ones.

The Discovery Cube in Orange County is another fantastic stop! They have a ton of hands-on educational activities that will entertain your little ones for a full afternoon.

My bigger kids love checking out the Science of Hockey area and the Inspector Training course. If you live in SoCal their family annual pass is a really affordable way to keep the fun going all year long.

If you’re hungry for more cool exhibits and learning activities, the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center is a short distance from Disneyland and has a lot to offer.

Muzeo offers educational exhibits that dive into the history of Anaheim, including Disney history, as well as rotating features from local artists.

For younger children, this might be a certified snoozefest. For older children with an interest in history or art, however, it’s an inexpensive way to change the pace for an hour or two before getting out and about in Anaheim again.

Plus, it has air conditioning. Thank goodness!

12. Round 1 Bowling & Amusement

Bowling is one of our favorite things to do in Anaheim. The newest addition to Anaheim Attractions is Round 1 Bowling and Amusement. Technically it is in the neighboring city of Santa Ana, but it’s just a couple miles away. You can check it out here!

13. Fullerton Arboretum – FREE!

Right next to Anaheim is the Fullerton Arboretum . There you will find 240 lush acres to enjoy with the family and get a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a great place to enjoy nature and take some amazing pictures while enjoying some respite from the bright lights and attractions of Disney and Anaheim.

We love to visit between busy days sightseeing or visiting Disneyland. It’s a beautiful place to enjoy a much needed change of pace.

14. Visit Huntington Beach – FREE!

While most folks flock to Anaheim for the sights in the city and Disneyland, California remains one of the best states for going to the beach.

The coastline is vast, and the Pacific offers some of the best conditions for surfing you can find anywhere in the intercontinental United States.

Huntington Beach is the closest beach to Anaheim and a quick drive. It is one of the most iconic beaches in Southern California. Enjoy watching some amazing surfers, dine and shop on main st. and of course enjoy the beach.

15. Jump around at the Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park 

Looking for more ways to let the kids burn off some energy?

Sky Zone Indoor Trampoline Park is a great spot to bring them for endless fun jumping on the many, many trampolines.

Slam dunk in the Slam Zone or soar into a soft, foam pit in the Drop Zone. Pit your kids against each other on the Battle Beam– winner picks where we eat dessert tonight. No matter who wins, you get dessert!

It’s a lot of rough and tumble fun, but they do have a dedicated Toddler Zone too for the real little munchkins to run and play without a bigger kid landing on them. 

And they have benches and air-conditioning for Mommy and Daddy to rest their tired feet. What more could you need?

16. See a Show at the House of Blues

House of Blues Anaheim is a premier venue for live music and entertainment. It’s not just a concert hall but a cultural experience, featuring a diverse array of musical genres and performances.

The venue is known for its unique atmosphere, combining Southern-inspired cuisine with an eclectic mix of music, from rock and hip-hop to country and blues.

Many of the shows are 18+ or 21+, but there are specific all-ages events that the whole family can attend!

17. Visit the Hass Avocado Mother Tree in La Habra

How to Get Around Anaheim

If you are from the Southern California area, getting around by car in Anaheim is easy. But, how will you get around from one amazing activity to the next if traveling from a distance? I love that Anaheim, unlike a lot of Southern California, has an amazing public transit system!

The skatepark was SO cool it made me wish I was in the lesson with the kids. Pretty sure I would break my neck but seriously so cool and my husband loved the flightdeck. So fun that there are these awesome resources right in Anaheim.

I’ve never been on the West Coast, but I’d love to one day! Not sure I would want to chug my kids around with me, though. Haha! I don’t know how you do it!!

It gets easier as they get older. Our two year old still gives me a run for my money though. I think the more we travel the more it just becomes who we are. It is part of our lifestyle and the kids routines. It is our normal I suppose and that makes it easier. You should definitely come to the West Coast though with our without kids. I love our side of the states 🙂

What we love to do in Southern California is Disneyland with the kids. I got to go once a year growing up and I want to do the same with my children.
