Beyoncé Performing ‘Formation’ And ‘Black Parade’ In Custom Camo Ivy Park Was The Perfect Start To Her North American Tour

Beyoncé Performs ‘Formation’ And ‘Black Parade’ In Custom Camo Ivy Park In The Perfect Start To Her North American Tour

This weekend, Beyoncé opened the North American leg of her Renaissance World Tour in Canada with two shows in Toronto on July 8 and 9. Two months into the long-awaited concert which began in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 10, Beyoncé demonstrated why even a plethora of spoilers being tweeted, posted, and tagged across the Internet can’t rain on her “Black Parade,” as she relayed her vision of Renaissance in a manner meant to be experienced in person.

The singer took some 50,000 fans inside the Rogers Centre on an emotional two-and-a-half-hour journey through her musical catalog, beginning with a series of beloved ballads, including “Dangerously in Love,” “1+1” and “I Care.” Beyoncé also sang a tribute to her idol, the late Tina Turner , with a rendition of “River Deep – Mountain High” before the arena went black and the true welcome to the Renaissance commenced with “Cozy.” No longer needing to be subtle with her lyrical jabs, the 41-year-old global icon ended the self-affirming song wrapped up in an oversized silver blanket with pillows, making it clear she doesn’t lose sleep over what anyone has to say about her.

Equally impactful moments followed throughout the night, with “Break My Soul,” the lead single from Beyoncé’s seventh studio album released nearly a year ago on July 29, 2022, being among the most spirited. Dressed in hot pink sequin fashions, the veteran performer and her dancers used every inch of the stage to excite the crowd, including the runway stretching into the audience where attendees lucky enough to snag highly coveted floor seats witnessed the numerous dance breaks timed to the track up close and personal. Beyoncé also paid homage to “Queen Mother Madonna” over the “The Queens Remix” of the single which samples the pop icon’s 1990 anthem “Vogue.”

While the large screens positioned over the main stage like an archway served as the primary source of visuals during the concert, one of the more tactile images impressed on concertgoers was the vision of Beyoncé gliding across the stage seated on a silver mechanized tank as she sang “Black Parade.” The song followed a performance of “Formation” and “Run the World (Girls)” during which Beyoncé wore an Ivy Park sequin camouflage bodysuit paired with a cropped sequin camouflage jacket and matching thigh-high boots.

The custom Atelier Ivy Park look conceived by the singer was complemented by archival Ivy Park looks from the Park Trails Collection which were worn by her dancers . The wardrobe spoke to the celebration of Blackness and femininity expressed in the chosen songs which has been characterized as radical by the masses over the years. And as Beyoncé held a Black power fist from the top of her tank for nearly 30 seconds at the end of the song from the soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift , an understanding of the power of the moment lingered over the crowd as they saluted the symbolism with widespread applause.

Appropriately, Beyoncé used an outfit change and “Church Girl” to transition from one form of revolution to the next. Classics like “Crazy in Love” and “Love on Top” found their place in this liberating dance-filled segment of the night before she entered her ‘70s glam era with live versions of “Plastic off the Sofa” and “Virgo’s Groove” sung from the inside of a giant clam. There was nowhere to look but at the singer as she entranced you with her sensual moves and silky vocals. But just as you think you’re being invited to wind down for the night, Beyoncé returns to the stage in her life-size queen bee costume to remind you “America Has a Problem” and she is indeed it.

Though some have characterized clips of the Renaissance Tour as lacking energy, due to Beyoncé not delivering the precise high-energy dance steps she’s been known for over the course of her decades-long career, there was something about the singer’s commanding presence that suggested she no longer has to. Let the young girls worry about the perfection of eight counts and impressing on-lookers, she seems to be saying with every curl of the lip and cocky facial expression. Beyoncé’s having a renaissance too, and hers seems to be letting loose and giving herself the freedom to simply have fun.

The Beyoncé concert map of Toronto

With the renaissance world tour hitting town, we rounded up every toronto beyoncé concert we could find..

It feels neither fair nor accurate to say Beyoncé is in the news “again.” It’s more like “still.”

Earlier this year, the acclaimed, beloved singer broke the record for most Grammy wins of all time . Around the same time, tickets for her Renaissance World Tour — which has two stops in Toronto on July 8 and 9 — went on sale, throwing the internet into a frenzy.

And just this week it was announced that the city is getting a “Renaissance Flagship” pop-up at Holt Renfrew, starting on Wednesday.

Of course, the Renaissance tour is hardly Beyoncé’s first stop in Toronto. She’s played multiple venues in the city over many years since debuting with Destiny’s Child in the late ’90s.

But just how many concerts are we talking about? Ahead of the new tour stops, we rounded up every show we could find. Read on or check the map accompanying this article for what we discovered.

1. July 7, 1998

Venue: Molson Amphitheatre (now Budweiser Stage), w/Destiny’s Child

Beyoncé’s first Toronto concert. She and the rest of Destiny’s Child — at the time, Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett — opened for Boyz II Men, along with Next, Mya, and Uncle Sam.

The group’s first album, Destiny’s Child , had been released just five months earlier, and it had already spent 19 weeks on the Billboard 200 as of the date of the concert.

2. Nov. 19, 1999

Venue: Roy Thomson Hall, w/Destiny’s Child

Fresh off the release of their second album, The Writing’s on the Wall , the fast-rising group played the hallowed venue that is now home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

There’s little info on the internet about this concert, but we can trust the hall itself:

20 years ago today these queens graced the Roy Thomson Hall stage! pic.twitter.com/U7pks6O5Hk — Roy Thomson Hall (@roythomsonhall) November 19, 2019

3. July 22, 2000

Venue: Paramount Canada’s Wonderland, w/Destiny’s Child

For Beyoncé’s only Greater Toronto Area show not in Toronto itself, Destiny’s Child played the Kiss 92.5 Wham Bam Thank You Jam one-day festival at Paramount Canada’s Wonderland.

The rest of the lineup included the likes of Rascalz, Choclair, Jully Black, Vitamin C, and b4-4.

4. Sept. 21, 2000

Venue: MuchMusic Video Awards, w/Destiny’s Child

By this point, Destiny’s Child had become megastars (and a trio, with Beyoncé, Rowland, and Michelle Williams). The Writing’s on the Wall had produced multiple No. 1 hits and reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200, which made the group a big get for MuchMusic’s then-annual video awards.

The awards stage jutted out of the MuchMusic building and faced Queen St. W., and that’s where Destiny’s Child played their hit “Say My Name”:

5. June 7, 2001

Venue: MuchMusic Intimate and Interactive , w/Destiny’s Child

Oh, for the days when you could walk to the corner of Queen St. W. and John St., and see an artist like Destiny’s Child … for free … seemingly all the time.

For the second year in a row, Beyoncé and the rest of the group visited MuchMusic headquarters. This time, though, they sang a pretty full set list of songs in amongst being interviewed by host Rick Campanelli, including “Survivor,” “Bootylicious,” and “Independent Women.”

Here’s video of the event (apologies for the Polish dubbing):

6. Aug. 13, 2001

Venue: Air Canada Centre (now Scotiabank Arena), w/Destiny’s Child

Back so soon? The group returned to the city just two months after the Intimate and Interactive performance, this time as part of MTV’s Total Request Live Tour.

Beyoncé and Co. headlined, and were joined by Nelly, Eve, and others. It was a family affair as Solange — Beyoncé’s sister — emceed the festivities.

7. Aug. 10, 2005

Venue: Air Canada Centre, w/Destiny’s Child

Finally : The first standard headlining tour date for Destiny’s Child in Toronto. Only, it was for the Destiny Fulfilled... and Lovin’ It tour — which would end being the group’s last.

The set list featured a Destiny’s Child greatest-hits package, and also solo songs for each of the group’s three members.

8. Sept. 15, 2006

Venue: Yonge-Dundas Square

Another free show! This one — her first solo concert in Toronto, as far as we can tell — was in conjunction with the opening of a then-new Best Buy nearby.

According to setlist.fm, Beyoncé opened with “Déjà Vu,” closed with “Crazy in Love,” and included a Destiny’s Child medley in the middle.

9. Aug. 15, 2007

Venue: Air Canada Centre

The next time Beyoncé returned to T.O. was for the Beyoncé Experience tour. Supported by Canadian R&B singer Robin Thicke, the former Destiny Child’s member was a solo powerhouse by this point, and one of the biggest draws in music.

As Ashante Infantry wrote in the Toronto Star after the concert:

As she shook and shimmied her way through the set in the highest of heels and with the biggest of smiles, the comparisons that came to mind were Prince (for versatility and musicianship) and Tina Turner (for sass and sheer power).

10. July 20, 2009

Venue: Molson Amphitheatre

Who wants to play the Air Canada Centre every time they come to the city? For the I Am … World Tour, Beyoncé spent some time outside on a clear, sunny 25ºC day at the Molson Amphitheatre near Toronto’s waterfront.

But do you want to get real jealous?

According to an old NOW magazine concert calendar , tickets for the show ranged from $34.75 to $150.75.

11. July 21, 2013

And we’re back at the ACC. This time, Beyoncé was in T.O. for the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour supporting her self-titled album, Beyoncé .

Exclaim ’s Sarah Murphy called it a “fantastic blockbuster concert.” In her review , she wrote:

The girl power theme stuck throughout the night, as Beyoncé was backed by an all-female band and gaggle of dancers…. In a set that ran like a greatest hits, Bey delivered with phenomenal vocals, powerful dancing and a genuine charm that almost seemed surprising coming from one of the world’s most famous women.

12. Dec. 16, 2013

Twice in the same tour? Yup. After leaving Toronto in July, Beyoncé did nine more North American dates, then hit Europe, Latin America, and Oceania before returning to North America for 10 more dates.

Then Toronto. Again. (“Hard working”? Doesn’t really cut it.)

For another sold-out ACC show, Béyonce performed a similar but modified version of the set from earlier in the year.

13. July 9, 2014

Venue: Rogers Centre, w/Jay-Z

Time off? Ha. Both fresh off their own tours, Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z hit the road together for On the Run, a mammoth tour that demanded Toronto’s biggest indoor venue. Of course, the pair sold out every seat. (In fact, the entire tour sold out.)

But how did the pairing work, with both on stage at the same time?

Pretty darn well, by all accounts. Star reporter Graham Slaughter wrote afterwards , “If you weren’t at the Rogers Centre Wednesday for Beyoncé and Jay Z’s tandem concert, you missed out.”

He went on to say:

The powerhouse hip-hop couple graced Canada with their two-and-a-half-hour On The Run show, which tells their complicated love story through a jaw-dropping 42-song setlist, iconic dance moves (the “Single Ladies” wrist pivot! The dutty wine in “Baby Boy!” The “Crazy in Love” thumb-to-chest lick!) and video montages. It’s the first time the couple has officially toured together. Hopefully it’s not the last.

As it turns out, it wasn’t. The pair reunited for On the Run II, though there was no Toronto date.

14. May 25, 2016

Venue: Rogers Centre

Beyoncé’s most recent Toronto tour date, and her first solo headlining show at the Rogers Centre, where she’ll get comfortable for two consecutive shows this summer.

This time, the singer was in town as part of The Formation World Tour in support of Lemonade .

"I love my divas." - @Beyonce #FormationWorldTour #Toronto pic.twitter.com/z0Xg32aaJD — Lauren O'Neil (@laurenonline) May 26, 2016

CBC reporter Lauren O’Neil was in the audience that night, and took special note of the singer’s cross-generational appeal, as evidenced by the Toronto crowd:

Women, men and children from backgrounds as varied as those that make up the city itself went nuts when the first image of Queen Bey popped up on a 60-foot-tall, rotating LED box and continued to do so for the full two-hour show.

No doubt that scene will recur during the Renaissance tour dates — and whenever Beyoncé returns to Toronto in the future.

On Her Renaissance Tour, the World Is Beyoncé’s Ball

The pop superstar’s first solo outing in seven years draws on the dance-music cultures that inspired her 2022 album, and her work that led up to that ecstatic release.

  • Share full article

Beyoncé stands atop a military-style vehicle onstage, flanked by dancers.

By Lindsay Zoladz

Reporting from Toronto

It was a crowd that had come to dance, dressed for a rodeo in the distant future: sparkling cowboy hats, silvery fringe, outré sunglasses and any other sartorial detail that represented “Renaissance,” Beyoncé’s dazzling seventh album and the occasion for her first solo tour in seven years. But as the imperial pop superstar took the stage at the Rogers Center in Toronto on Saturday night for the first North American show of her Renaissance World Tour, she reminded the club-ready audience just who was in charge. Because if they were prepared to move, she was going to make them wait a little longer.

Setting the table for a two-and-a-half-hour performance that was visually spectacular, vocally ambitious and sometimes tonally confused, Beyoncé, 41 — clad in a glimmering chain-mail mini dress — began the show with a nearly 30-minute stretch of ballads and deep cuts that harked back to her past: an acrobatically sung solo rendition of the 2001 Destiny’s Child track “Dangerously in Love,” a bit of “Flaws and All” from the deluxe edition of her 2007 album “B’Day,” and the sparse, soulful “1+1” from 2011, which she belted atop a mirrored piano.

It was a both a display of her vocal agility and a curiously traditional way to start a show centered around an album as conceptually bold and forward-thinking as “Renaissance” — a sprawling, knowingly referential romp through the history of dance music , with an emphasis on the contributions of Black and queer innovators. Here, instead, was a stopover in Beyoncé’s Middle Ages.

As a live entertainer, though, she has earned a fresh start. The Renaissance World Tour shows are some of Beyoncé’s first appearances since her dazzling, commanding performance headlining the 2018 Coachella festival (later released as the concert film and live album “Homecoming”), which served as a kind of mic-drop capstone to her career thus far. It would be futile to repeat that, and difficult to top it. The loose, fluid “Renaissance,” still said to be the first part of a trilogy , represents a new chapter in Beyoncé’s recorded oeuvre. And once the show finally found its center and, however belatedly, welcomed the crowd to the Renaissance, it heralded her maturity as a performer, too.

The show’s look — as projected in diamond-sharp definition onto a panoramic screen — conjured Fritz Lang’s “ Metropolis ” by way of the 1990 drag ball documentary “Paris Is Burning.” After a lengthy video introduction, Beyoncé emerged from a chrome cocoon and vamped through a thrilling stretch of the first suite of “Renaissance” songs; during “Cozy,” most strikingly, a pair of hydraulic robotic arms centered her body in industrial picture frames, like a post-human Mona Lisa.

In May, when Beyoncé began the European leg of the Renaissance World Tour, rumors swirled that she may have been recovering from a foot injury, since her choreography was a bit more static and less stomp-heavy than usual. The Toronto show did nothing to dispel that chatter, but it also showed that it doesn’t matter much. Perhaps because of some constraints, Beyoncé has embraced new means of bodily expression. She brought the flavor of ball movements into the show and served face all night, curling her lip like a hungry predator, widening her eyes in mock surprise, scrunching her features in exaggerated disgust.

Few seats in the stadium provided a legible view of Beyoncé’s face, of course, though the screen took care of that. She played expertly to the cameras that followed her every choreographed move, aware of how she’d appear to the majority of the audience and — perhaps just as crucially — in FOMO-inducing social media videos. The stage itself was breathtaking, featuring an arced cutout section of the screen that made for playful visuals, but its full grandeur was not visible from many of the side seats, making the band and sometimes the dancers difficult to see.

The screen, though, was the point. Beyoncé’s two solo releases before “Renaissance” — her 2013 self-titled album and “Lemonade,” from 2016 — were billed as “visual albums,” featuring a fully realized music video for each track. Again toying with her fans’ anticipation, she has still not released any videos from “Renaissance,” giving the previously unseen graphics that filled her expansive backdrop an added impact, and making them feel more weighty than a convenient way to pass time between costume changes.

Many of the tour’s outfits struck a balance between Beyoncé’s signature styles — megawatt sparkles, high-cut bodysuits — and the futuristic bent of “Renaissance.” She played haute couture bee in custom Mugler by Casey Cadwallader and glimmered in a Gucci corset draped with crystals. But the night’s most memorable look — so instantly iconic that a few fans had already tried to replicate it, from photos of the European shows — was a flesh-tone catsuit by the Spanish label Loewe, embellished with a few suggestively placed, red-fingernailed hands.

Throughout the set, Beyoncé wove interpolations of her predecessors’ songs throughout her own, as if to place her music in a larger continuum. The grandiose “I Care” segued into a bit of “River Deep, Mountain High,” in honor of Tina Turner, who died in May . The cheery throwback “Love on Top” contained elements of the Jackson 5’s “Want You Back.” Most effective was the “Queens Remix” she performed of “Break My Soul,” which mashes up the “Renaissance” leadoff single with Madonna’s “Vogue,” paying homage to the mainstream pop star who brought queer ball culture to the masses before her. (The merch on sale at a Renaissance Tour pop-up shop in the days before the show included a hand-held fan emblazoned with the song title “Heated” for $40. It sold out.)

The show contained moments that sometimes felt conceptually cluttered and at odds with the “Renaissance” album’s sharp vision, like dorm-room-poster quotes from Albert Einstein and Jim Morrison that filled the screen during video montages. The middle stretch, arriving with a lively “Formation,” featured Beyoncé and her dancers clad in camo print, riding and occasionally writhing atop a prop military vehicle. There was a wordless, gestural power in the moment she and her entourage held their fists in the air, referencing a salute that had rankled some easily rankle-able viewers of the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime Show. But if Beyoncé was calling for any more specific forms of protest or political awareness — especially in a moment when drag culture and queer expression are being threatened at home and throughout the world — those went unarticulated.

Beyoncé’s endurance as a world-class performer remained the show’s raison d’être; she is the rare major pop star who prizes live vocal prowess. By the end of the long night — and especially during the striking closing number, the disco reverie “Summer Renaissance,” when she floated above the crowd like a deity on a glittering horse — she extended the microphone to lend out some of the high notes to her eager and adoring fans. “Until next time,” she said, keeping the stage banter relatively minimal and pat. “Drive home safe!”

Even when Beyoncé embraces styles and cultures known for their improvisational looseness, she still seems to be striving toward perfection — a pageant smile always threatens to break through the stank face. Commanding a stadium-sized audience, she was an introvert wearing an extrovert’s armor. That tension is part of both her boundless charm and her occasional limitations as a performer. And it makes moments of genuine spontaneity all the more prized.

Naturally, #RenaissanceWorldTour was trending on Twitter long after the show, but one of the clips that went viral was unplanned. During a rousing performance of her early hit “Diva,” Beyoncé accidentally dropped her sunglasses. She fumbled them for a second, mouthed an expletive as they fell to the ground, and gave a sincere, shrugging grin before snapping back into the choreography’s formation. For a fleeting moment, she seemed human after all.

Beyoncé Confirms Retirement, No Longer a Pop Star

Beyoncé in animal print in the Disney+ film "Black Is King."

Beyoncé just made a major revelation about her career in a profile with GQ .

Pop icons don’t get much more iconic than Beyoncé . While she rose to fame as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child, she quickly became a cultural icon as a solo singer known for hits such as “Crazy in Love,” “Halo,” and “Formation.”

Beyoncé getting ready backstage

At this point, Beyoncé – whose full name is Beyoncé Knowles-Carter – is such a dominant force in the industry that she doesn’t really need to do the legwork required earlier in her career. Her most recent albums haven’t received heavy promotion, with a private show in Dubai in January 2023 marking Beyoncé’s first live performance since 2018.

She’s also started exploring more alternative career paths, such as releasing the documentary “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” – documenting her headlining performance at the Coachella Music Festival – on Netflix and voicing Nala in Disney’s live-action remake, The Lion King  (2019) .

She also produced and curated a companion album for the film, “The Lion King: The Gift,” as well as fronting its visual film for Disney+ , Black Is King (2020).

Last year saw Beyoncé step back into the pop star role by embarking upon the Renaissance World Tour (which briefly held the title of the highest-grossing tour by a female artist until being overtaken by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour ), while this summer marked the release of her first country album, “Cowboy Carter.”

But as per Beyoncé, she has no plans of going back to the traditional pop star formula. In a recent interview with GQ, the singer revealed that she is fully retired from that lifestyle.

Beyoncé stands in cow print dress

“I retired from the formula of the pop star a very long time ago,” she said. “I stopped focusing on what’s popular and began focusing on the qualities that get better with time and experience. Good music and strong messages will never retire.”

While that doesn’t necessarily mean Beyoncé will give up on music any time soon , it does seem certain that she won’t be following the traditional formula of the album-promotion-tour cycle.

She’s already spent several years making it clear that her career follows a different path from that of her competitors, including jumping between genres and exploring new ventures. Her time as a traditional pop star may be at an end – but we’re what’s to come is even better.

What do you think of Beyoncé retiring from the traditional pop formula?

Beyoncé explains why she stopped making videos

From the moment she blew bubblegum in Crazy In Love to the day she destroyed a fleet of cars with a baseball bat in Hold Up, Beyoncé has created some of pop's most memorable music videos.

Her mastery of the medium matched that of Madonna and Michael Jackson in the 1980s - with the videos for her Lemonade album acting as a powerful celebration of black womanhood and female power.

Then, all of a sudden, she stopped. Her last two albums, Renaissance and Cowboy Carter, have been bereft of visuals, leaving fans perplexed.

Now, Beyoncé has explained her decision in a rare interview with GQ magazine , saying she didn't want her videos to become a "distraction from the quality of the voice and the music".

"I thought it was important that during a time where all we see is visuals, that the world can focus on the voice," the star said.

She explained that her recent records - which seek to contextualise black musicians' often overlooked contributions to genres like house, disco and country - needed to stand on their own.

"The music is so rich in history and instrumentation. It takes months to digest, research, and understand," she said.

"The music needed space to breathe on its own."

She added that, for Renaissance in particular, the live concert experience was more important than filming music videos.

The album, released in 2022, was written during the pandemic and was conceived as "a place to dream and to find escape during a scary time for the world". The subsequent tour, and the tour film released in cinemas last year, was intended as a moment of community and catharsis for her followers.

"The fans from all over the world became the visual," Beyoncé told GQ.

"We all got the visual on tour."

The interview, which took place to promote the star's new whiskey brand, is the first time Beyoncé has spoken at length about her career since a joint interview with her sister Solange in 2017 .

She largely withdrew from interviews around 2013-2014, opting instead to write personal essays for publications like Vogue, or addressing fans directly on social media.

The GQ article did not reveal a great deal about the notoriously private star.

She revealed that she gave up meat (except turkey) over the summer, and briefly addressed the threat of artificial intelligence, saying she recently heard an AI-generated track "that sounded so much like me it scared me".

The star also talked about her efforts to shield her family from the press.

"One thing I’ve worked extremely hard on is making sure my kids can have as much normalcy and privacy as possible, ensuring my personal life isn’t turned into a brand.

"It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace."

Award show snub

The article was published a day after it was revealed that Beyoncé had been snubbed by the Country Music Awards, with Cowboy Carter failing to land a single nomination at the genre’s most prestigious ceremony.

Her music was overlooked despite it becoming the first album by a black woman to reach number one on the US country albums chart, and the song Texas Hold 'Em spending two weeks at the top of the country singles chart.

With the interview taking place before the CMA nominations were announced, Beyoncé is simply quoted as saying she was "hyped" to see her country experiment "gain worldwide acceptance".

However, the singer's father and former manager, Matthew Knowles, criticised the award show organisers, saying the decision to overlook Cowboy Carter "speaks for itself".

Talking to TMZ, he said: "There’s more white people in America and unfortunately they don’t vote based on ability and achievements, it’s still sometimes a white and black thing."

Five of Beyoncé's best videos

1) Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. This black and white clip, directed by Jake Nava, simply features Beyoncé, a plain background and some Bob Fosse-inspired choreography.

2) Formation

Her most powerful and pointed video, summing up decades of black American history and culture. Set in New Orleans, it references slave plantations, segregation, Hurricane Katrina and police brutality, while simultaneously celebrating southern culture - from Mardi Gras and step-dancing to black cowboys and marching bands.

A document of resilience, it was the first chapter in the star's ongoing attempts to preserve and re-contextualise black American history.

3) Countdown

A kaleidoscope of colour and pop culture references, Beyoncé co-directed this video while very pregnant with her first daughter, Blue Ivy.

It references to Audrey Hepburn and British supermodel Twiggy, and the frenetic editing and jitterbug choreography make it a unique entry in her videography.

4) Crazy In Love

The video that launched her solo career, Crazy In Love ticks off all of the early 2000s music video clichés - fur coats, exploding cars, big hair and bullet time sequences.

But what it really does is inform the viewer that Beyoncé is a star. The camera loves her from the moment she struts towards the centre of the frame. As soon as this clip dropped, Destiny's Child must have known their days were numbered.

5) Get Me Bodied (Extended Version)

We nearly put Hold Up in fifth place. The image of Beyoncé brandishing that baseball bat has been copied and parodied a million times, but never bettered.

In the end, though, we couldn't resist the fun factor of Get Me Bodied - a big Hollywood production, with choreography inspired by Bob Fosse's Sweet Charity, and cameos from Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and Solange Knowles.

Like Crazy In Love, it harks back to a time when Beyoncé's only goal was pop domination - but it's still a feast for the eyes.
