If you are looking for a small RV that is affordable and easy to tow, consider a bunkhouse travel trailer under 25 feet. These RVs may be small, but they have plenty of sleeping space for the whole family.

Winnebago Micro Minnie 1800BH

Length: 21 feet, 11 inches

The Micro Minnie 1800BH is the smallest bunkhouse travel trailer on our list. At just under 22 feet long and 7 feet wide, this trailer is tiny, but has everything you need for a family camping trip. The single bunk beds are located on the driver side rear corner of the RV.

The dinette can also be converted into another bed. A double bed is located in the front of the RV trailer. While many small travel trailer bunkhouses have a flip-up bed, this bed is permanent, so it does not require any effort to set-up.

Additional sleeping spaces include a convertible dinette booth and a fixed queen bed at the front of the trailer. At 8 feet wide, the trailer also has room for a closet, nightstand and outlets beside the bed.

The 221MSL floorplan is the largest Ember Overland floorplan and can sleep up to six people. The rear bunk area includes an Embertrack system with adjustable, removable bunks. When the bunks are raised or removed, a rear storage door allows the bunk area to be used for kayak or bike storage

Keystone Cougar Half-Ton 30BHS

Length: 34 feet, 5 inches

We toured hundreds of RVs at this year’s Florida RV SuperShow , and the Keystone Cougar Half-Ton 30BHS was by far my favorite bunkhouse floorplan. The unique layout includes rear bunks that extend the width of the RV.

The position of the bunks creates a separate area for kids and makes the beds more accessible. In the front of the RV is a large, private bedroom with a king bed. The bathroom sits between the living area and the bedroom.

The main living area includes an L-shaped dinette, a tri-fold sofa and a fireplace. The kitchen has a full range, a microwave, a double sink, a 12 volt fridge and plenty of counterspace. Arched rafters create a spacious interior with 7 foot ceilings.

Crossroads Volante VL32FB

Length: 35 feet, 11 inches

The Crossroads Volante VL32FB is a beautiful travel trailer with lots of practical features. The front of the RV houses a private, secondary bedroom with queen over queen bunks, a large wardrobe closet and a chic wood panel wall.

In the back of the trailer is the main bedroom with a king bed and its own entry door. The dual entry bathroom sits beside the rear bedroom.

The second Heartland RV on our list of the best bunkhouse travel trailers is the Trail Runner 31DB. This big rig has much more space and many more exciting features than the tiny Pioneer.

The rear of the RV houses an entire kids’ suite. Inside the suite is a private bedroom with a single over double bunk bed, a shirt closet and a half bathroom. In the front of the trailer is a main bedroom with a queen bed and a full bathroom.

In the main living area, there is a dinette booth and a large sofa. The corner kitchen features bright, white cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Perhaps the most unique feature of this RV is the huge pantry, located behind the TV next to the entry door.

Venture SportTrek ST333VIK

Length: 37 feet, 8 inches

Another amazing (and enormous) rear bunkhouse travel trailer is the Venture SportTrek ST333VIK. The bunkroom includes a normal height single bed, and a raised top bunk which sits over a storage cabinet.

The lower bed is perfect both for smaller children who are at risk of falling from higher bunks and teenagers who need more headroom. The huge bunkroom is also great for teenagers because it also has a sofa (with another flip-up bunk above it), a table and a flip-up desk.

Outside the bunkroom is a full (second) bathroom. The other bathroom is located in the front of the trailer next to the main bedroom with a queen bed.

While the bunkroom is the star of this RV, the main living area does not disappoint either. With the optional king dinette, the combination sofa/dining area can comfortably seat 5 to 6 people. The large kitchen has an island and a hutch that makes a perfect coffee station.

Keystone Hideout 38FKTS

Length: 39 feet, 11 inches

Mid-bunk floorplans are super common in fifth wheel RVs, but rare in travel trailers. The Hideout 28FKTS is the best mid-bunk travel trailer available.

The bunkroom includes a upper bunk with a cube bunk below. The cubes can be moved around and used as chairs during the day. A wardrobe, which doubles as a desk completes the room.

The main bedroom has a queen bed and is located in the rear of the trailer. The full bath sits between the two bedrooms. In the main living area, there is a dinette booth, a recliner and a trifold sofa. The front kitchen has white cabinets and tons of storage space.

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse are a great option for those with kids, but they are also a fun option for the kid in you. A bunkhouse offers that little bit of extra sleeping room that’s often lacking in standard travel trailers. 

Plus, it’s great for traveling with friends or extended family when you need that extra bunk or two to make it happen. Adults typically prefer to avoid sleeping on the floor unless there are a lot of good bourbons involved. 

Not all travel trailers with a bunkhouse are created equally, which is great for you if you’re in the market for one. They generally range from 22’ to 40’, with a ton of floorplan options and the efficiency of extra sleeping space.

What’s the Difference Between a Bunkhouse and a Travel Trailer?

Technically, they’re both still travel trailers. The only difference is the bunkhouse option has bunk beds or some variation of a bunk. Travel trailers dominate the RV camping industry. There are so many of them it’s easy to get confused as to which is the best.

Manufacturers of travel trailers with a bunkhouse use some pretty ingenuous ways to fit those bunks in there as well, including lofts, which help maintain plenty of vertical space. There’s also a large enough variety, including affordable, mid-range, and premium options. 

Plus, bunkhouse travel trailers always seem to have the edge regarding a suitable floor plan. If you lay out the bunkhouse models next to their standard cousins, it’s easy to see that bunkhouse versions often have a spacier layout. 

10 Best Travel Trailers with a Bunkhouse

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse have a nice indoor aesthetic, especially when the bunkhouse resembles a loft. Depending on the size of your family, sleeping space is one of the key factors, along with budget and quality. 

That said, here are some of the best travel trailers with a bunkhouse on the market today. 

1. Jayco Jay Flight 294QBS

The quad-bunk room in the back is very spacious. With two foldable beds for optional storage while the others are stationary. The camp-side bunks are a little wider than the right side, but there are plenty of windows and lights for all four. 

The Jayco Jay Flight 294QBS sleeps up to 10. Not only can you bring your family along, but they can also bring their friends. Everyone will have a place to sleep. 

There is only one full bath, which may have trouble accommodating 10 people, but it’s nice nonetheless. The Queen bed sits on the road side of the trailer, next to a loaded kitchen and entertainment combo, seamlessly integrated and loaded with amenities. 

The dinette is U-shaped, restaurant style, and sits next to a jackknife sofa. The kitchen contains all the expected amenities, and it’s easy to take everything outside to the exterior kitchen if needed.

2. Grand Design Imagine 3210BH

The Grand Design Imagine 3210BH pulls off a magic trick. It’s pretty standard looking from the outside (regarding travel trailer aesthetics). When you step inside, however, the amount of space is truly incredible. “Grand Design” indeed. 

If you love the high-tech look, the theater seating is really well-thought-out and designed. The main HD TV sits above the dinette booth, with two flanking, upward-firing speakers.

With all that extra space, the 3210BH designed a quad-bunk room on one end, with two flip-top, 34” bunks on one side and two 30” bunks on the other. The exterior includes an outside kitchen with a fridge, grill, and a 9’ awning. 

For those who have boondocking in mind, there is an option to add the Imagine Solar Package to support your power needs off the grid.

3. Keystone Hideout 21BHWE

The Keystone Hideout is one of the most affordable travel trailers with a bunkhouse on our list, with an MSRP of $22,639. One of the main attractions of the Hideout 21BHWE is the versatility of the interior. 

The jackknife sofa in the living room converts into a murphy bed, converting the front living space into a bedroom in just a few seconds. The Hideout also includes a set of bunks. Being a little smaller has limitations, so there is no quad-bunk here. 

The bunk beds are double-size, and despite the small nature of the Hideout, there is still plenty of space inside, along with several storage options. 

With that being said, you can still sleep 7 comfortably. This is also a lightweight travel trailer, making it much easier to hook up and tow, especially with the addition of four stabilizer jacks. The power awning is fully adjustable, and the exterior includes speakers for plenty of outdoor entertainment.

4. Palomino Puma 28BHSS

Despite that aesthetic, The Puma 28BHSS comes with a 12-year manufacturing warranty , so it’s hard to argue with that. Puma placed a premium on interior height, and unless you play in the NBA, you’ll never feel like you’re about to bounce your head off the top of a door frame.

The Puma 28BHSS presents a unique idea for the bunk house, with wrap-around bunks floating over a sofa bed. Across from the bunks and sofa is a small corner entertainment center crowned with an HD TV. 

As a family, your kids might prefer to spend their entertainment evenings in the bunkhouse rather than the living room. It’s that comfortable. The U-Dinette and sofa are a part of the slide-out, but despite the depth, they’re well situated across from the entertainment center.

The kitchen area is fully loaded, including a walk-in pantry. Everything you need for outdoor cooking and grilling is located in the kitchen. The advantage and value packages add many features already, but the optional limited edition and electric power package features can bring this travel trailer to new heights.

5. Keystone Passport 2401BH

The bunkhouse in the rear is right next to a rear-corner bathroom, with the other bathroom adjacent to the queen bed. Both bunks are doubles, with a ladder and a bed-length window next to each. 

The bottom bunk folds up for more storage options, including pass-through storage. The exterior includes an outdoor kitchen and an extra-large awning to cover all outdoor cooking needs.

The U-dinette converts into a bed, and there is more than enough room to sleep 8. Depending on your floor plan, there is also an optional theater dinette, one of the nicest add-ons if you don’t mind the price jump.

6. Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH

Some people may be disappointed at the elevated MSRP on a mini-travel trailer BH, and that’s a shame because this one happens to be a very nice bunkhouse option that sleeps 5. Within the 22’ length, Winnebago packed two bunks, a full-size main, and a convertible dinette. 

Not bad for one of the smallest trailers on the list. It’s also a well-equipped, smaller travel trailer with bunk beds. The Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH offers a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of storage capacity. 

The three-burner stove is standard in this bunkhouse travel trailer and includes a large sink with a high-rise faucet to boot. The dining area is decent, with booth seating that converts into a sleeper. The bathroom is located next to the bunks and is surprisingly sizeable. 

It’s not a full-size bathroom, but it’s definitely more than you would expect for a travel trailer this size. The exterior features are standard but premium, including the LED awning, pass-through storage options, and some basic boondocking features. 

7. Crossroads Zinger ZR340BH

The aesthetic is spot on, and when you throw in the roaring fireplace, king-size bed, and wardrobe/entertainment center, this becomes one of the most comfortable BH travel trailers on the market. It is also easy to get into the storage bays with the Keyed-A-Like Locking system.

It’s a spacious travel trailer that places a premium on privacy, with the bunk area and the king bedroom completely privatized, assuming you like to close doors. There are storage options aplenty, with a nice entertainment center that melds seamlessly with the L-counter in the kitchen.

There’s a lone bathroom, but it retains the overall aesthetic, with enough room to move around. The exterior contains all of the storage and entertainment features you would expect, including a large awning and an outside kitchen built into the side. 

8. Coachmen Northern Spirit 2963BH

This is a popular option for large families, especially with younger kids involved. Both double bunks (the lower one flips up) come with kid’s convenience centers and a bathroom directly adjacent to the bunks. 

The bathroom is one of the largest on the list and includes a full tub and a hamper. Plus, it’s accessible with an entranceway from the outside. The queen bed is also a flip-up, flanked by two small wardrobes and plenty of storage beneath the bed. 

The U-Dinette is also a convertible bed and includes a pet center. The entertainment center is also a nice touch, butting up against a large L-counter with plenty of surface space. The outside includes storage options and the requisite RV outdoor kitchen. 

9. Cruiser Embrace EL280

It’s also conveniently located next to the bathroom, which is large enough to include a bathtub. The unique shape of the sink countertop provides some additional counter space and is located across from a booth-style dining area.

The sofa is highly comfortable and standard size, but the HD TV does have a semi-awkward angle to the couch. The primary bed is king-size, leaving plenty of “walk-around” room on both sides.

The front bedroom includes a bed that flips down into a couch, with a forward windshield that gives the room an incredible vibe. Two mini-wardrobes flanks the bed, but the room’s overall aesthetic remains spacey and modern. 

The kitchen is standard and includes all amenities, including the flip-top counter piece for additional real estate when you’re working in the kitchen. The outside space has hookups for three propane tanks and an optional solar array. 

Two lithium-ion batteries, three propane tanks, and the addition of solar panels open up the boondocking options if that’s your thing. 

Do You Need a Big Truck to Tow a Bunkhouse?

You don’t need a big truck to tow a bunkhouse travel trailer. Some compact trucks are more than capable of hauling weights above 7,000 lbs. Most bunkhouses are designed for full-size truck hauling, but there are exceptions, like the Winnebago Minnie.

Are Bunkhouses Good for Full-Time Living?

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse are good for full-timing. Some of these travel trailers are monstrous in size, and their amenities are perfect. On the other hand, if you have a family of 8 to 10 and own a Winnebago Minnie 2100BH, well, you have fun with that. 

How Much Does a Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse Cost?

The price disparity can be pretty wide. For instance, the MSRP on the Keystone Hideout 21BHWE is $22k, while the MSRP on the Grand Design Imagine 3210BH is $67k. The numbers are all over the place, but you shouldn’t expect to exceed $80k in most cases. 

How Long are Travel Trailers with Bunkhouses?

Travel trailers with a bunkhouse are long as 40′ and as short as 20′. Manufacturers create floorplans that include bunkhouses without sacrificing standard spaces in a travel trailer. 

8 Things to Look for in a Travel Trailer with a Bunkhouse

The first and most obvious thing to look for is a bunkhouse. There are sinister things afoot if it’s a travel trailer with a bunkhouse and lacks a bunkhouse. 

1. Number of Beds

Aside from the necessary, dedicated bunkbeds, the number of beds is just as important. If you have a large family, four bunks, a convertible dinette, and the main bedroom provide a good deal of sleeping room. 

Length is critical, depending on what (if any) sacrifices were made regarding living space. While a 35’ travel trailer bunkhouse is bound to have plenty of space, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a 29’ bunkhouse is a ripoff. 

3. Family-Friendly Layout

Family-friendly travel trailer bunkhouse layouts focus on families. A bunkhouse is great, especially for sleeping arrangements, but the rest of the travel trailer should also be family-friendly. 

4. Extra Amenities

The Coachmen Northern Spirit 2963BH is an example of extra amenities, including the kid’s convenience centers in each bunk and the pet center in the kitchen/living space. Extra amenities are always a plus, if not a requirement in many cases.

5. Number and Style of Bathrooms

For larger families, bathrooms jump to a higher tier of importance. One full bathroom is great until you have 8 people running around and three need to use it. What is a Travel Trailer?

A travel trailer sometimes called a bumper pull or bumper tow is a towable RV that connects to the bumper hitch of a vehicle and is moved that way. They are not motorhomes, and they do not need to be towed with a special hitch in the bed of a pickup truck, like a fifth wheel trailer. They come in a wide variety of sizes and models.

What is Bunkhouse?

A bunkhouse, or bunk room, in an RV, is a sleeping space with bunk beds that is separate from the master bedroom and main living area. Typically, the dedicated sleeping space has a door that can be closed for privacy, making the bunkhouse its own room.

Advantages of Bunkhouse Travel Trailers for Families

Since the bunkhouse travel trailers offer extra sleeping space for children, they are perfect for families (just like a house with bunk bed setups). Once children are in bunk beds, parents can close the door and use the rest of the trailer without disturbing their little ones.

Children usually enjoy having their own bunk bed space and the option to close the door for privacy. Most families can easily imagine circumstances when it is advantageous to have separate rooms. Overall, a trailer with a bunkhouse feels more spacious and more like home.

Bunkhouse travel trailers also tend to be lighter and can be towed with a variety of vehicles. While a fifth wheel trailer can only be towed by a pickup truck, a travel trailer can also be towed by larger SUVs, which can be very helpful for large families, families with young children in car seats, or those who occasionally travel with guests.

Disadvantages of Bunkhouse Travel Trailers for Families

Many families find that a travel trailer feels too small for their needs. They prefer the higher ceilings and increased storage space of a fifth-wheel trailer (including overhead cabinets for storage space). Travel trailer often has less space and weight margins for cargo. Ultralight models are built with weight-saving construction that can be less durable, and it can be hard for children to remember to use the space gently.

A Bunkhouse RV / travel trailer rarely come equipped with conveniences such as washing machines and dishwashers that can come in handy when traveling with children. Finally, freshwater tanks and both black and grey water waste tanks are smaller, and many families find them limiting if they do not always park with full hookups.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Bunkhouse Travel Trailers

New or used bunkhouse travel trailer models.

In order to find the best bunkhouse travel trailers, you can also consider a used bunkhouse travel trailer brand will save budget-conscious families a lot of money on the purchase price. If purchased from a dealership, they will often come with some kind of limited warranty, but buying them privately is a greater risk.

A disadvantage of buying used is that the rig will likely have some degree of wear and tear from normal use. A bunkhouse model has most likely been used by a family with kids, which often means it has endured a little more use (or abuse) than a trailer that has only been used by adults. Check any used model thoroughly before purchasing.

Cost is not the only disadvantage of buying new. In our experience, many new RVs end up needing multiple repairs before everything is working as it should. Yes, these repairs are all covered by the manufacturer’s warranty at no additional cost, but that is often little consolation if your brand new rig spends weeks or even months in a repair shop, wreaking havoc on your travel plans.

A used rig can actually end up needing fewer repairs if it has been well-maintained, as the previous owners have gone through the hassles and inconveniences of working all the kinks out of it.

Number of Beds

Consider how many permanent bunks your family needs and wants and limit your search to models that provide this many beds. While the specs may assert that the trailer sleeping space allows up to ten people, examine how those bed spaces are counted.

Usually, this involves converting dinettes and jack knife sofa into beds. On our rig, converting the sofa to a bed allows no walkway from the master bedroom to the bathroom. So while we could technically use this as a sleeping space, it is not practical.

Chances are one reason you are looking for bunkhouse travel trailers is to avoid the need to remake the dinette into a bed every night while also making sure that everyone has their own bed to retreat to at any time of day.

So look at models that have enough permanent bunks for everyone in the family. The more beds you need, the fewer options you have available. There is a wide variety of floorplan options available in a wide range of sizes for those who only need two bunks. Three or more bunks are not difficult to find, but the options are more limited.

Number of Slides

More slideouts give you more floor space and storage space without adding significantly to the dimensions of your trailer. Many families prefer to look for a rig with as many slides as possible.

Slideouts add weight and one more moving part that can break and need repairs. They also increase your dimensions when parked, which can limit your ability to park in smaller or more narrow spaces (small camper). Opposing slides give the most spacious and open feeling inside the trailer but are also more likely to make your rig too wide for some campgrounds.

Pay attention to how you are able to use your trailer with one or more slides pulled in. Can the bathroom door or refrigerator be opened? Can you walk through to the bedroom? If all slides must be out in order to use the essentials, then carefully consider how you intend to use it and if you anticipate always being able to park in spacious campsites.

Bunkhouse Travel Trailers Length

Similar to the number of slides, the overall length is often a compromise between how much space you would like to have while inside the trailer and keeping your options open for where you will park it.

For example, if you are planning a road trip to visit national parks, keep in mind that RVs that are under 25 feet in length are welcome in 93% of America’s national park campgrounds while staying under 37 feet still gives you access to 60% of them.

Weight / Tow vehicle

If you already have a pickup truck or larger SUV that you want to use to tow your travel trailer, investigate how much weight your vehicle is able to tow and restrict your search to trailers with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) below that limit. It might seem obvious, but it can be very tempting to stretch the limits a little bit in order to add a little bit more length or an extra feature that caught your eye. It truly isn’t worth gambling with your family’s safety on the road.

You may see a trailer listed with dry weight and a cargo weight capacity. The dry weight means that all cabinets and tanks are empty. The gross vehicle weight rating is the sum of these two numbers. Remember that you will not always want or be able to tow with all tanks empty, so it is important to consider the gross weight when pairing your trailer with your tow vehicle.

Consider the size and layout of the kitchen if you are preparing food for a whole family in it. Can the refrigerator reasonably hold enough food for your family, or will you need to shop nearly every day of your trip? Is there enough countertop space or overhead storage ?

Is it important for you to have an oven or a microwave? Larger rigs, especially those with opposing slides, often have a kitchen island, which gives the kitchen more storage and countertop space.

However, many large families are completely satisfied with a smaller kitchen. Only you can answer what your individual preferences are and if this is likely to be a source of frustration for you. But it is definitely a factor worth considering.

Is an outdoor kitchen a priority for you? Some families love the option of cooking meals outside, while others rarely use their outdoor kitchens. Since many floorplan builds borrow space from the bunkroom to add the great outdoors kitchen or eliminate the outdoor kitchen to increase the size of the bunkhouse, this is another factor to keep in mind.

Dinette seating

For our family, the ability to comfortably gather our family around the table for meals, regardless of the weather, is non-negotiable. Since we are a family of five, a U shaped dinette was a priority for us. This limited the models we were willing to consider when purchasing our rig.

A surprising number of bunkhouse travel trailers offer permanent beds for up to six people but a dinette that only fits four. If this is also a priority for your family, it is a factor to pay attention to.

Bunkhouse Travel Trailer Comparison Chart

With this travel trailer by Coachmen, you will appreciate the ease of towing behind your family vehicle. All the tanks are located under the floor to lower the center of gravity for increased storage capacity and improved handling down the road.

Advantages: This rig offers plenty of cargo space, including a grand design large pantry in the kitchen. Opposing slides give a spacious feeling in the main living area and allow space for a kitchen island. An additional slide in the bunkhouse gives the kids plenty of space.

Disadvantages: Tank space sometimes feels limited, particularly the freshwater tank. This model is long and heavy for a travel trailer, which limits tow vehicle options.

Advantages: The bunkhouse has a great layout with plenty of floor space. The bathroom includes a bathtub, which families love. This is a lightweight model that saves on towing costs and keeps your options open for tow vehicles.

Disadvantages: This layout places the bathroom right next to the master bedroom, which some families do not prefer. There is very limited countertop space in the kitchen. This model does not have an outdoor kitchen.

Floor Plans:

Advantages: This model offers three bunks plus a booth dinette in the bunkhouse. This table is great for crafts, puzzles, Lego building, and coloring. It can also be converted to a bed to give four permanent beds. The U-dinette has a separate bunkhouse room for the whole family, and the bathroom has a bathtub.

Disadvantages: The bathroom can’t be accessed when the slide is in. It would sometimes be convenient if the tanks were larger.

Advantages: Opposing slides in the main living space gives a spacious feel and a great kitchen layout with a lot of countertop space. The bunkroom slide adds a lot of floor space for playing. The outdoor kitchen includes an extra refrigerator, which can allow families to stock up and avoid frequent shopping trips. The built-in bike rack is a nice perk, as is the king-sized bed in the master bedroom.

Disadvantages: The location of the bathroom may be inconvenient for families. There is no storage anywhere near the entry door, nor wall space for hooks, so there is no convenient place to keep shoes and outerwear.

Best Hunkhouse Travel Trailer Under 30 ft: Winnebago Minnie 2455

Don’t let the name mislead you, the Winnebago Minnie packs maximum features into an easy to pull light weight camper. A full 8' wide box provides ample living space and the power slide out creates even more!

Advantages: This Minnie is small and light! Staying under 30 feet opens up a lot of options, and it is light enough to give flexibility in choosing a tow vehicle. U-dinette is great for family meals. The bunk beds are double beds (double bunk), which can be more comfortable for older children.

Disadvantages: This model does not have a bunk area in the sense that the bunk beds are in a room of their own with a door that shuts. It is included as an example of a common floor plan to have bunks in a smaller trailer.

Full-time families who live in this model solve the privacy issue with curtains and other creative solutions. The queen bed is also not in its own room with doors that shut, since there is only a partial wall at the foot of the bed. Parents may not appreciate the lack of privacy, either. The storage space in this model is very limited.

Prime Time Avenger 32QBI

This trailer features and design elements that are considered to be “Best In Class” and rarely found on the competitions are used to fully maximize customer enjoyment.

Advantages: Opposing slides in the living area give generous floor space and allow for a kitchen island for added countertop space. The U-dinette is also roomy to accommodate the whole family around the table. The slide in the bunk room gives plenty of floor space there too. The extra refrigerator in the outdoor kitchen is a bonus that many families really appreciate.

Disadvantages: The location of the bathroom so far from the bunkhouse can be seen as a disadvantage. This rig is long and heavy, which limits your options in choosing a tow vehicle and may, at times, limit where you can take it.

Keystone Outback 293UBH

Advantages: This model is a great compromise between space and gross vehicle weight rating. It is a very lightweight option for a bunkhouse travel trailer with all the necessary features. It is also a very affordable option. The slide gives extra floor space, and the extra refrigerator in the outdoor kitchen helps families stock up on groceries.

Disadvantages: The master bedroom is very small, without many walkways at the foot of the bed. The booth dinette is on the small side for the whole family to sit together for meals. The kitchen is small and offers limited countertop space.

Keystone Outback 31RQS

Advantages: Families that want four bunks without converting a dinette or sofa into a bed in the bunk room; this is your rig. The bathroom is very convenient for kids, and the linen closet is a nice feature. There is good storage space.

Disadvantages: This trailer is heavier than other trailers of a similar size. The kitchen has very limited countertop space. While this camper has permanent beds for six people, the booth dinette can only comfortably seat 4.

Step into this single-slide Bullet travel trailer to see just how convenient camping with a larger family can be. The private bunkhouse is a wonderful location to house any guests or children that you have traveling along with you.

Advantages: This trailer is relatively light for as much space as it provides. The bunkhouse has great space and storage. The outdoor kitchen is practical, and the extra refrigerator is a feature many families really appreciate.

Disadvantages: The master bedroom is very small and doesn’t have much space to walk around the foot of the bed. The slide is also small. While this trailer has permanent beds for 5, it is difficult to fit five people around the table in the dinette. Countertop space in the kitchen is limited.

Highland Ridge Open Range 310BHS

This Open Range model offers a spacious living and kitchen area, plus a private sleeping room that the kids or overnight guests will surely love to call their own.

Advantages: Holy Slides, Batman! This model’s four slides, including opposing slides in the living space and one in each bedroom, give this rig a lot of interior space. The kitchen has a large refrigerator and an island. The bunk room has good floor space to play and plenty of storage.

A coat closet by the door is very practical, and the master bedroom closet is a great feature! This is a travel trailer that might not know it isn’t a fifth wheel.

Disadvantages: The combined sofa/dinette area has plenty of seating, but only two small tables and the seating is in a straight line, all of which is less than ideal for family meals.

Young children, in particular, may struggle to eat at such small tables while seated on a sofa, and the trailer lacks a good place for coloring, crafts, building Legos, or other activities kids do at the kitchen table.

One of my favorite memories growing up as a young kid was hitting the road with my family on the weekends and camping in the beautiful green back forest of Oregon. That isn’t to say that it was all sunshine and bluebirds. There were some nights that were rather uncomfortable, and I longed for the comfort of my own bed. It would have been perfect if at the time we had a trailer with a nice set of bunk beds. Below in this post are the best travel trailers with bunk beds that I wish I had growing up. Many of the trailers selected are new for 2018.

Coleman has been around for awhile now. They have had since the year 1900 to work out the logistics of their operations, and to understand the best way to fulfill their obligations to their customers. They have done pretty well. Overall, they have a good reputation for producing what are considered quality products that suit the entry or luxury class to which that particular RV is ascribed. As for the Lantern series, Dutchmen has remained consistent in their approach. Perusing the internet forums, you will find a relatively satisfied customer base. Looking through the floor plans, you will find a large selection of bunkhouse layouts. If their claims are true, Palomino offers the largest selection of bunkhouses in the industry. They have also made the claim that they have a “multitude” of standard features, and I have found that to be true as well (As you can see from the snippet above).

As with almost every RV out there, the craftsmanship is more than questionable. Reports of screws falling out and glued areas needing re-gluing are fairly common. However, I’m not coming across reports of anything serious falling apart. I’m finding a lot of people happy with this line of campers.

The more popular the brand, the more prolific the complaints. Browsing through the complaint sites, you will find many unhappy customers. However, according to polls and forums, Keystone is a decent manufacturer. According to one poll, 90% of the Keystone customer base would purchase a Keystone again which is a stunningly good percentage.

This is a budget class of travel trailers, but it doesn’t act like it. When the compliments are much easier to find than the complains; you’ve probably got something good happening. Crossroads is one of the many subsidiaries of the Thor company collective. Thor started in 1980, and it has grown dramatically. The range of the RV quality varies, but the Crossroads Zinger has some pretty good feedback.

As far as budget class travel trailers go, relatively speaking, these are solidly built with good quality control. Most warranty problems seem to come to reasonable resolutions. They have some lightweight models (Less than 5,000 Pounds), so the weaker tow vehicles have some options.

Jayco trailers has been around for half a century, and like Thor, has built an empire. The SLX’s are one of many model lines, and one of its standout features is its lightweight floor plans. If you are interested in the lighter weight plans, you should be aware of the floors. Some floor plans have composite flooring and some have plywood. It has been noted that the Jayco’s composite flooring can develop soft spots, and that the plywood floors don’t have that issue.

Aside from the composite flooring, it has a good reputation. There are some expected durability issues and those, of course, become bigger issues as “lightweight” becomes the highlight feature.

These travel trailers have a reputation for being a good value for their price-point. Minor repairs throughout are expected, as with everything. The quality is good, so it is dependable enough.

Inconsistent quality is a pretty big problem. Some reviews are shining and others are not. Looking through reviews and forums, customer service does not appear to be great. There are two versions the Voltage Line. There is the Voltage line and then there is the Voltage Epic line. Both of them offer the bunk bed feature, but we are just going to focus on the Basic Voltage line for today.

The more I look into Dutchmen, the more I like them. Out of the many manufacturers that I have researched (50+), they are one of the most consistently praised by their patrons. I’m not getting paid to say that; It is just what I have noticed.

Considered to be medium-level quality trailer with a relatively pleased customer base. It is lightweight, so there will be a drop in overall durability. The most prolific issues seem to be with the roof, so do a thorough inspection of the ceiling before purchasing if this line of trailers interest you.

The 320BHDS has been noted to have a “design flaw” that ruins the floors with water when driving through hard rain. It appears to be an issue with that specific model, so be aware of that. The year was unspecified.

Coachmen was purchased by Forest River in 2008, and some have expressed concern about a potential drop in dependability. However, the quality hasn’t appeared to be negatively affected, and overall, they seem to be maintaining a level of quality that is competitively consistent.

Good construction, good interior storage, and wide-bodied; those are the kinds of comments that I have been coming across. I’m not finding a lot of bad reviews with this one. This line of trailers has an uncommonly positive level of feedback

Forest River is a budget class RV, so I’m not going to lie and say that everything is fantastic. The sealant will need to be replaced, screws are going to pop out, and parts will eventually fall into disrepair. You should do your research, so that you know what you should expect from an RV within this price range. After accepting that these lower-priced RVs are going to be problematic, you will know whether or not you should pay for something a bit higher up on the RV food chain.

So, why am I recommending it? Honestly, it isn’t a horrible starting point. If you aren’t ready to buy a mid-to-high range RV, then this is a good early step. It will serve you provided that you are also ready to serve it with a little elbow grease and a little more know-how.

Built on a budget; the Shadow Cruiser isn’t a top of the line class. It is, however, a way for families to get into the camper life without breaking the bank. These are some of the best selling RVs on the market because they make the first steps of this RV adventure a little bit easier. If you are prepared to take on the responsibilities of RV ownership…and that means making the occasional repair that budget RVs inherently present, then this might be an RV line worth considering.

Easy Alternative Bunk Bed Option

Buying a new travel trailer is a big purchase and I along with others recommend looking around for a year before your purchase since it gives you time to see all the models on the market as well as for the new models to gather up some reviews. An easy option in the meantime is to simply pack a set of bunk beds in your current trailer. This bunk bed from Kid-O-Bunk on Amazon is a nice alternative that may work nicely for you until you are ready to make the big purchase.

Keystone Passport 3400QD Quad Bunkhouse

This new floor plan in the Passport ultralight travel trailer line seeks to serve RVers who require room for extra occupants.

Passport travel trailer floor plans range from 21 to 38 feet in length.

Calling all kids! And NASCAR fans, golf buddies, fishing friends, and others who travel with a small army. Keystone RV Company has addressed the need for extra sleeping berths by introducing the Passport 3400QD bunkhouse travel trailer for 2020. In addition to a spacious interior and exclusive construction and design features, the 3400QD also includes four bunk beds.

This RV isn’t your average sleeper on wheels. Each bunk is a full-size bed that sleeps two children or one adult comfortably. That’s in addition to the queen-size master bed, the standard dinette sleeper, and the sofa bed. For RVers who have wondered how to accommodate extra passengers on overnight trips or longer excursions, this might answer the question.

The recently redesigned Passport is an ultralight towable offered in numerous configurations ranging from 21 to 38 feet in length. Floor plans include exterior kitchens, “mudroom” benches, oversized or bath-and-a-half layouts, super slides, work desks, and more. The 3400QD, with its private quad-bunkhouse room, is the largest floor plan, measuring 38 feet 4 inches and weighing 7,510 pounds.

Construction

A chassis is engineered specifically for each floor plan in the Passport line. Dexter E-Z axles are incorporated in a spread-axle design, said to help equalize the load. Technicians add a laminated aluminum-framed floor and welded aluminum-framed sidewalls. These structures are insulated with high-density block foam rated at R-11 and R-7, respectively. The waterproof composite flooring is made of nonorganic materials, which, according to company officials, won’t swell, rot, or produce mold or mildew.

Vaulted ceiling roof rafters are added to the 3400QD and topped with a one-piece, seamless Superflex roof from Alpha Systems. The roof is made of thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), which has a lighter weight than materials commonly used in RVs, and it is insulated with R-11 rolled fiberglass. The RV’s underbelly is enclosed, sealed, and heated.

Slideouts operate via an electric cable system. Keystone’s patented Tru-Fit slideout construction is said to make them more durable, to minimize stress placed on the motor and overall structure, and to prevent leakage.

The front cap is composed of automotive-grade fiberglass and features two-tone exterior paint. Technicians apply the company’s patented KeyGuard protective coating to the cap. This coating prevents damage from rocks and other materials that can fly up during travel. Upgraded graphics adorn the rest of the unit.

The Passport is outfitted with a heavy-duty electric tongue jack and four electric stabilizer jacks. It rides on 15-inch aluminum wheels and radial tires.

The 3400QD floor plan comes with an exterior slide-out cooktop; other floor plans also have an exterior refrigerator as shown.

For tailgating and outdoor dining, the 3400QD includes a pull-out cooktop next to the front entry door; other Passport floor plans feature exterior kitchens with cooktops, refrigerators, and sinks. Shade is provided by a 21-foot, electric adjustable awning augmented by LED lights. Outdoor speakers provide the tunes. An exterior shower with hot and cold taps also is included.

Up front, a lighted exterior compartment provides pass-through storage accessible from both sides of the RV. The Passport’s radiused main entry door, equipped with a screen, is illuminated for coming and going after dark and has a fold-away exterior grab handle.

An exterior “convenience center” houses controls for the slideouts, lights, awning, and water system, along with a 120-volt receptacle.

The décor and interior furnishings reflect the Passport’s fresh, new look; this includes rounded, vaulted ceilings in the 3400QD and wood-panel doors. Light-colored flooring, wallcoverings, and seamless pressed countertops complement the midtone wood cabinetry and satin-nickel hardware. Residential vinyl flooring is used throughout, along with residential window treatments and valances.

With optional Pivot multifunctional furniture, a dinette back can be turned to create an L-shaped sofa.

The bunkhouse room is at the rear of the 3400QD, just past the full-size bathroom and adjacent linen closet. A street-side slideout holds two sets of bunks, each measuring 51 inches by 74 inches. For privacy, a wall separates the two pairs of beds. Sturdy ladders provide occupants access to the top berths. Space under the bottom beds makes a handy spot to stow a few pairs of shoes. Each bed has its own wall cubby equipped with a USB charging port. In fact, the Passport contains 10 USB ports overall.

If all four beds are not needed, one or both bottom bunks can be folded in half and secured vertically with latches. This creates a dedicated storage area or a spot to carry cargo while traveling.

Across the aisle, bunkhouse occupants have their own entertainment center, whose centerpiece is a 43-inch HDTV. The TV is flanked by wardrobes, with cabinets and open shelves providing more storage. To further make this room its own domain, a second full-size entry door is located on the rear wall.

At the opposite end of the 3400QD is the front master bedroom. Behind the 60-inch-by-80-inch bed, a rustic reclaimed wood-look feature wall adds a decorative touch. The room includes nightstands, wardrobes, and other cabinets, some with mirrored fronts, as well as recessed accent lighting. Other Passport floor plans come with a Murphy bed in the master bedroom; the bed flips up against the wall if additional daytime seating is desired. (Psst: A hidden storage area in the bedroom can conceal purses, documents, and other personal items.)

Meal prep and lounging take place in the middle of the unit. Galley chefs will appreciate the 3400QD’s propane oven, the three-burner high-output propane range and hood, the microwave oven with turntable, and the 8-cubic-foot three-way RV refrigerator. The stove has a glass cover that becomes a backsplash when it is flipped up for cooking. A high-arc, pull-down metal faucet is paired with the galley’s deep-seated stainless-steel sink, which comes with a matching countertop cover.

A fully equipped galley, including an 8-cubic-foot refrigerator, and an entertainment center occupy the center of the Keystone Passport 3400QD.

Across from the galley, in the front slideout, a U-shaped dinette provides seating for several, if not more. Directly adjacent is a tri-fold sofa sleeper, which comes standard in the 3400QD; optional theater seats may be selected instead. These pieces reflect another Keystone design: optional Pivot multifunction slideout furniture. When more seating is desired, the back of the dinette seat shifts, resulting in a roomy, L-shaped sofa. Storage is available beneath the seats.

A second entertainment area resides between the refrigerator and the front entry door. Here, as in the rear bunkhouse, occupants can make use of Keystone’s own KeyTV. This feature provides a single point of control for over-the-air, cable, and satellite feeds to help eliminate poor reception, guessing at channels, etc. By the way, all Passports are equipped with a Furrion antenna designed to integrate 4G LTE and Wi-Fi with standard VHF/UHF/AM/FM reception.

Behind this entertainment center, another storage area is revealed: a walk-in pantry.

The interior environment is controlled via a 13,500-Btu air-conditioning unit and a 30,000-Btu furnace with in-floor heating ducts. Options include a 15,000-Btu A/C unit and 50-amp electrical service instead of the standard 30-amp electric.

The Passport 3400QD has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 7,510 pounds and a carrying capacity of 2,115 pounds. Keystone literature notes it is towable with a full-sized SUV or half-ton pickup truck. (RVers, of course, should first verify that the loaded weight of the unit falls within proper limits.) Keystone officials also point to its three-year structural warranty and one-year limited base warranty as a company hallmark.

Simply put, a bunkhouse travel trailer has extra bunks. It’s an important distinction, especially when looking at smaller, lightweight trailers. Affordability gets better and better the smaller the trailer. If you can tow your travel trailer with the full-size SUV that you already own, you’ll save money in the long run. Remember, you must tow fifth wheels with customized pickups, and Class A’s are much more expensive altogether. So a bunkhouse travel trailer might allow you to skip all of these extra costs if you can tow it with the vehicle you already own.

Dedicated Bunks

Many trailer makers squeeze in an impressive number of bunks, but they have often shared surfaces. So, for example, a dinette might convert into a double, or a jack-knife sofa might pull out and make a large bunk.

In any case, all of these solutions are a pain. It means you’ve got to give up your sitting and dining area to get ready for bed. Furthermore, a daily set-up and break-down phase will become a time-consuming chore. These shared-use spaces are great solutions if you have occasional overnight guests, like an annual trip with the grandkids. But if you are looking for a daily solution, everyone getting their own bed is the key to family happiness.

More Privacy

Mid and larger-sized bunkhouse travel trailers will have the ability to close a door and shut off the bunkhouse travel trailer from the rest of the camper. For parents with small children, this gives the kids their own quiet space to rest, all while freeing up the rest of the camper and leaving the dinette and kitchen intact.

So how does it work in your family? Do the kids go to bed early, or do you rise and shine with the sun while the kids sleep in? These things are much easier if you’ve got a little more privacy.

In smaller RVs, bunks might not have their own doors or be in enclosed rooms. But just having a dedicated place where you can put your stuff makes a world of difference in terms of organization and planning.

Flexibility

Finally, the bunkhouse travel trailer layout provides many options for even those who aren’t traveling with families. It might be handy if you travel with friends or guests one day. For day-to-day living, the bunk space is a welcome addition for storage. It’s invaluable to have the option to put random stuff in a place that is out of the way and not taking up other living spaces.

Travel Trailer and Towing Woes

If you’re comparing a towable to a Class A coach or even to a larger fifth wheel, keep in mind that towing a large travel trailer is still no trivial task. While these trailers are lighter and can be towed by some SUVs, they are by no means ultralights. If your vehicle’s towing capacity isn’t at least 5,000 pounds, you’re probably out of luck unless you’re looking for the smallest bunkhouse travel trailer out there.

And even though they can be pretty luxurious, you won’t find as many amenities in these campers as you would in fifth wheels or coaches. These are budget-conscious starter RVs, and you aren’t likely to find them decked out with washers and dryers, fireplaces, or even very large tanks.

Extra Size, Complexity, and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

On the flip side, these trailers aren’t small and simple, either. While some bunkhouse travel trailers are pretty small and light, there is no getting around the fact that it is an upgrade from the basic camper design.

If your second and third bunks are shared spaces, like sofas or dinettes, the total camper length can be much smaller. Unfortunately, you won’t find bunkhouse travel trailer layouts available in the smallest travel trailers, and when you do find one, it comes at the cost of removing something else entirely.

True Overall Capacity

The next problem with these designs is that they can squeeze many people into a very small camper. The more people you carry, the more space you need for tankage, groceries, clothing, and supplies. So while you might be able to find campers that measure less than 20 feet with multiple bunks, will they provide enough space for everyone to camp comfortably?

It’s much easier for families with small kids to use ultralight bunkhouse travel trailers. Older kids and teens are more likely to want their own space and greater privacy, requiring more space.

Another factor that makes a big difference is the lengths of trips involved. For example, does your group head out for a single overnight? Or are you hoping to spend weeks at a time on the road?

None of these things is a disadvantage, per se. But they do require looking at the camper as a whole package and objectively thinking about how it will suit your mission.

What Is the Best Bunkhouse Travel Trailer?

The good news is that quite a few manufacturers are offering a bunkhouse travel trailer model. These floorplans are popular–they are an inexpensive way to get the whole family on board. That makes them perfect starters and entry-level RVs.

It’s difficult to say which is the best because every camper’s needs are slightly different. Some are looking for an ultralight and minimalist camping experience. Others might be looking for some luxuries and a bigger rig.

Once you know what a bunkhouse travel trailer is, you’ll probably pin down exactly why you do or don’t want one quickly. And in doing that, you’ll likely know exactly what you need. How many bunks, what sort of space, and what does your budget look like for cost and overall size? Layouts vary considerably between model lines, even from the same RV manufacturer. The only way to find one that suits you is to go out and walk through some in the real world!

Number of Beds

Probably the first criterion will be figuring out exactly how many bunks you need. The fewer bunks you can get away with, the more spacious the camper will feel. After that, just make sure all of your family members, or whoever is traveling with you regularly, have their own private space.

Of course, not all bunks are created equally. Many campers have smaller single bunks that are built for kids. Older children and teens might feel quite cramped and uncomfortable, so you’ll want to be sure to spend some time in each layout and see how your family fits, literally!

Most trailers have just one bathroom to optimize space. Some models have stand-up showers only, but some have tub/shower combinations. If you are traveling with younger kids, you might prefer a bathroom with a tub for easy bathtime.

Bathroom location can be important to families. Some models have a bathroom close to the master suite, which is great for the parents but might be inconvenient for the kids. Others place the bathroom next to the bunk room, which is easier for the kids but might be harder for the parents. A centralized bathroom works well for all.

Most bunkhouse travel trailer kitchens feature a fridge, microwave, storage, prep space, and sink. However, you might prefer a kitchen with additional prep space and a large pantry if you are traveling long-term. In addition, some larger rigs have a kitchen island which gives more counter space.

Most modern models feature outdoor kitchens. This is a great way to enjoy outdoor time as a family and keep the heat and mess of meal prep outside the RV. In addition, outdoor kitchens usually have an extra fridge, which is great for extending the time between grocery runs. Outdoor kitchens also have a sink and griddle or stovetop.

Dinette Seating

Small trailers usually have small dinettes, and this is one of the easiest ways you can gauge just how comfortable your family will be. Is there enough room for the family to eat around the table comfortably? While at the table, can the chef get to and from the kitchen easily?

These might sound like minor things, but you have to remember that it’s easy for RV makers to add more bunks. It’s much harder for them to create layouts that work for that many people. Can you realistically use the layout and be comfortable? That’s the question you need to continually ask yourself as you compare layouts.

Dinette seating usually converts into extra own sleeping space, adding to the number of guests you can host.

Number of Slide-Outs

Slide-outs are an easy way to get more real estate inside the RV. It’s especially useful with a dinette, but it’s also handy in some bunkhouse travel trailer layouts where the bunkroom slides out for more floor space.

Slides add cost and complexity to a rig, however. As with all decisions when planning such a big purchase, you’ll have to find the right balance. Make sure the expense of a slide-out is gaining you something. It should make a useable space that makes the camper feel more comfortable.

Bunkhouse Length

Most bunkhouse travel trailers are less than 40 feet long. The smaller and lighter the RV, the easier it is to tow. Shorter trailers are easier to store and find campground spaces for. The best shopping technique is to buy the smallest bunkhouse travel trailer that will meet your needs for the kind of traveling you enjoy.

National parks can easily accommodate RVs under 25 feet. An RV under 37 feet can access about 60% of parks, while only a small percentage of National Parks can accommodate trailers over 40 feet. If traveling to National Parks is on your bucket list, aim for a smaller rig.

Weight and Tow Capacity

If you already have a tow vehicle and don’t want to trade up, pick an RV that matches your current vehicle. Most RVs advertise their empty weight. This weight doesn’t include water or fuel in the tanks and personal gear. After you’ve loaded up the trailer, it will weigh more. Make sure you know how much weight your SUV can tow and calculate the actual weight of the trailer plus any liquids, RV accessories , and gear.

RVs come with several tanks. You’ll have fresh water tanks, propane tanks, grey water tanks, and black water tanks. The bigger your tanks, the longer you can go without topping off and dumping out. However, bigger tanks also take up more storage space and add to your total towing weight.

If you plan on boondocking for weeks, look for a trailer with large tanks. On the other hand, if you plan on simple weekends at an RV park, you can get away with smaller tanks.

Separate Bunk Rooms

The bigger the trailer, the more space, and privacy bunk rooms will have. While you can find some very small campers that squeeze many bunks into short tow packages, the amenities are generally limited.

We went with the 2100BH model because it has a spacious floorplan due to the open layout and dinette slide-out, but it’s still well under 30 feet long at 21 feet, 11 inches.

The Micro Minnie 2100BH is constructed on a NXG engineered chassis with Azdel fiberglass walls and radiant foil insulation.

The roof is a single piece TPO membrane, with a gel-coat fiberglass front cap. It has a 13-foot power awning, exterior LED lighting, speakers, and is prepped for a back-up camera.

Best Class A Motorhomes with Bunk Beds

Favorite Feature: Drop-down Overhead Bunk

While this Freedom Traveler A32 Class A motorhome with bunk beds is under 34 feet long, it still has everything you need, including a booth dinette, sofa, fully-equipped kitchen, and rear bedroom with a wardrobe and dresser. If dry camping is your style, you’ll appreciate the 50-gallon fresh water tank, 40-gallon black waste tank, and 40-gallon gray waste tank.

The bunks are perfect for two kids, but you can also use the drop-down overhead bunk in the cab for additional sleeping space. If you don’t use it for sleeping, it can be a convenient temporary storage location while you’re in camp.

Forest River Georgetown 7 Series 36K7

Favorite Feature: Kitchen Layout

My favorite feature of the Georgetown 7 Series 36K7 is the kitchen layout because it maximizes the interior space. There’s a long galley-style countertop against the campside with all the appliances. This makes cooking convenient when everything is within reaching distance.

And the bonus is the large pantry on the driver’s side. Not only will it hold all the food for a weekend camping trip, but it’s easily accessible when you’re driving down the road. Grabbing a snack is quick and easy.

This coach also features two bathrooms—one in the hallway, which is easy for the kids and guests to access, and the other in the rear, ideal for parents who want a separate washroom. The Georgetown 7 Series 36K7 also has a booth dinette and sofa across from the kitchen, providing a space conducive to entertaining.

Jayco Alante 29F

• Length: 32’2”

Favorite Feature: Storage Everywhere

While the Alante 29F is the shortest Class A motorhome with bunk beds on the list, I love how Jayco maximized the storage space. Overhead cabinets are everywhere in this coach. Plus, there’s a pantry in the kitchen and a dresser and wardrobe in the rear bedroom. Whether you’re traveling for a weekend, a week, or a month, you’ll have plenty of room to store all your food, gadgets, gear, and clothes.

The sofa and booth dinette are opposite, and the kitchen features a flip-up countertop to create more prep space. The hallway bathroom is easy for everyone to access since it sits across from the bunk beds and next to the master bedroom. Plus, the bunks feature their own tablet holders so everyone can enjoy their personalized entertainment choices in the evenings.

Thor Hurricane 34J

• Length: 35’9”
• GVWR: 22,000 pounds

Favorite Feature: Spacious Interior with Super Slide

The super slide extends nearly the entire length of the driver’s side in this Class A motorhome with bunks. This greatly enhances the living area, creating a spacious walkway from front to back. When you’re a traveling family, this gives you plenty of room to move about the Hurricane 34J without bumping into each other.

The rest of this RV’s floor plan is similar to the Jayco Alante 29F, with the sofa across from the booth dinette, the bunk beds, and the master bedroom near the hallway bathroom. But it’s slightly longer, providing more interior space, a larger bathroom, and an outside kitchen.

Jayco Precept 36A

• Length: 38’10”

Favorite Feature: Two Bathrooms

Not only do you have two bathrooms in the Precept 36A , but they’re two full bathrooms. This is a huge selling point when traveling with kids. The parents have their private rear suite, and the kids have easy access to the second bathroom across from their bunk beds. The rear bath also features a huge vanity, which provides ample storage for your toiletries and personal items.

This is the first Class A motorhome with bunk beds on the passenger side. The primary bed and hallway bathroom also flip to the driver’s side. You’ll also find opposing slides in the primary sleeping area, along with a king bed, an optional washer/dryer combo, and dual wardrobes. In this floor plan, the sofa and dinette are on the same side, directly across from the kitchen.

Forest River Georgetown 3 Series 33B

• Length: 34’6”

Favorite Feature: Defined Rooms

My favorite feature of the Georgetown 3 Series 33B is how the walls help differentiate the front living area from the rear sleeping space. Because the bathroom wall extends into the hallway and the refrigerator extends on the opposite wall, the space feels nicely separated. 

While some prefer the open concept, this layout is ideal for families wanting privacy. When friends come for dinner, the rear bedroom is secluded from the coach’s rear.

Like the Jayco Precept 36A, the king bed and bathroom are on the driver’s side, while the bunk beds are on the campside. The living space is designed with a sofa and dinette opposite the kitchen, and swivel chairs in the cockpit provide additional seating for family game nights.

What Size Are Bunk Beds in an RV?

While bed sizes vary from camper to camper, you’ll generally find that bunk beds are smaller than standard twins. Typically, an RV bunk bed will be around 30” x 80”, but their sizes will vary by manufacturer. While some RVs feature double-over-double bunks, single bunks are more common in Class A motorhomes with bunk beds.

What Is The Weight Limit for RV Bunk Beds?
