  • Find a Cruise

Beyond the cutting-edge venues, thrilling entertainment, and luxe spaces designed to make you feel right at home—if home happened to be a sleek, futuristic, artsy haven at sea— Celebrity Edge is also leading the way in creative cruise cocktails.

What better time to branch out and try something new than when you’re on vacation? Our expert mixologists and bartenders are always whipping up new delights to imbibe and enjoy.

People drinking at Luminae restaurant on Celebrity

We’ll introduce you to cruise ship drinks inspired by our global travels, the destinations you’ll sail to, sourced from the finest spirits and liquors available.

One-of-a-kind martini experiences. Thirst-quenching, fruity spritzes by the pool. Daiquiris, piña coladas, and all the sunny day classics. You’ll find them all on Celebrity Edge.

Here are 10 cruise cocktails you can try during your cruise.

1: The Banana Man at Martini Bar

People drinking martinis at the bar counter

Martini Bar

You’ve probably never had a Banana Man before, but you can order one at Martini Bar & Crush , where we’re always rewriting the rules to take martini mixology to the next level.

Bourbon, allspice, and black walnut bitters garnished with orange zest and banana chips make for a totally unique experience.

Of course, classic gin and vodka martinis are mainstays on the menu—shaken, stirred, dirty, or with a twist, however you like them best.

2: Rye Sangria at The Retreat® Lounge

Classy interior of Retreat Lounge on Celebrity

The Retreat Lounge

The Retreat Lounge is exclusively available to guests of The Retreat , a sophisticated space where your dedicated server will offer morning coffee, complimentary bites in the afternoon, and, by night, mix delicious drinks. Come to The Retreat Lounge for a pre-dinner aperitif or a delicious nightcap.

Try the Rye Sangria, a tropical, fresh sangria double-strained and served on the rocks for a smooth experience. Jack Daniels Rye and Cointreau, an orange liqueur, livens up this red-wine sangria.

3: The Old World Old Fashioned at Cyprus

Beautiful interior of Cyprus restaurant on Celebrity

Woodford Reserve Bourbon leads the dance for this tried-and-true Old Fashioned, inspired by hundreds of years of Turkish influence and history.

Aromatic bitters, dark rum, orange bitters, and a grape liqueur paint a rich picture. Garnished with a Turkish fig, you’ll be transported to Cyprus instantly.

At Cyprus Restaurant , you’ll discover the flavors and cocktails that fully embody Mediterranean summers, like fresh mint, lemon, and lime.

4: Bezzera & Rye at Luminae

Modern interior of Luminae on Celebrity

Guests of The Retreat® have exclusive access to Luminae , a private restaurant featuring an exclusive menu you can’t find anywhere else on board.

Sip on a full-bodied Bezzera & Rye, in which classic Jack Daniel’s fuses beautifully with a splash of vermouth and fig demerara, a dark rum fermented from molasses. A dash of black walnut bitters adds a subtle touch of sweetness.

5: The Eclipse Manhattan at Martini Bar

Luxurious interior of Martini Bar and Grand Plaza

For a flair of drama, you can’t go wrong with the Eclipse Manhattan. Dark as a midnight sky, the Eclipse is a take on the Manhattan that’s slightly more interesting.

Rye whiskey, red wine, orange bitters, and amaro create an intense, black beverage that you’ll find in few other parts of the ship. Dark luxardo cherries are, quite literally, the cherry on top.

6: The French Daiquiri at Normandie

French interior of Normandie restaurant on Celebrity

Travel to the French countryside in a coupe glass at Normandie Restaurant when you sip a French Daiquiri.

Light and airy, this concoction mixes Bacardi rum with rose and a sweet vermouth with lime juice and simple syrup for complex and refreshing flavors. Garnished with an elegant edible flower, this cocktail is perfectly photogenic.

7: 75 in the Sun at Sunset Bar

The best vacation days are temperate and breezy, so we created a cocktail to remind you of how it feels to enjoy a sunny, 75-degree day with no work, meetings, or to-do lists.

All the sweetness of honey syrup and pineapple juice is cut with a splash of lemon juice and quality Buffalo Trace Bourbon in a cocktail that will remind you of an unforgettable sunset.

Surrounded by the waning daylight at Sunset Bar, this cocktail is topped with sparkling wine for extra texture.

8: The Fig at Eden

Lush interior of Eden on Celebrity

Bourbon lovers will return to The Fig time and again. Shaken and double-strained bourbon, fig syrup, bitters, lemon juice, and beet and carrot juice create a delightful, subdued cocktail that reminds us of a lush rainforest.

Beautiful mission figs complete the look. Who says your cocktail can’t be the star of the show at least once?

9: Champagne Cobbler at Martini Bar

People hanging out at Martini Bar

We say being on vacation is enough reason to celebrate with a glass (or bottle) of bubbly. When it comes to champagne, we keep it simple, garnishing with orange wedges and raspberries. Ultimately, at Martini Bar, we want the champagne in our Champagne Cobbler to shine.

10: The Curtain Call

Modeled after the classic Old Fashioned, the Curtain Call is fitting for the beginning or the end of a night out on your vacation. Pineapple-infused rye, grenadine, amaro nardini, and a dash of bitters brightens your entire evening.

Stirred, strained, and served on the rocks, the Curtain Call is garnished with an orange and lemon swath.

19 Most Unique Cruise Ship Bars in 2023

  • July 13, 2022

Finding stunning bars and meeting passengers are exciting for many cruisers, and even more so if you’re on a particular ship with well-thought-out themes, from interior design to cocktails. I love fun-filled bars, which led me to create this list of the best and most unique cruise ship bars and lounges in the entire world.

1. Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge

Ship: Disney Wish

Disney Cruise Line ‘s Disney Wish is barely out of the gate, and we’re already hyped about the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge on board. We’ve been psyched for it since Disney first revealed its details last spring!

Styled as a luxurious spaceship, this themed bar offers signature beverages inspired by Star Wars movies and interactive tastings. Virtual “windows” offer glimpses into the vast galaxy, where you’ll see famous spaceships flying by and locales like Batuu and Tatooine. As far as watering holes at sea go, this has to be one of the most unique ones thus far!

Check out the Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge menu here.

2. Alchemy Bar

Ships: All Carnival Cruise Line vessels except Carnival Paradise

If you’re a Carnival Cruise Line cruiser who likes a cocktail, you’ll surely like Alchemy Bar fan club.

This vintage pharmacy-themed bar features a menu divided into sections, including “Energizing Elixirs,” “Relief For What Ails,” and “Passion Potions.”

Cocktails are refreshing, made with fresh herbs and other ingredients. Tell the mixologist what you’d like if you’re not in the mood for anything on the menu, and they’ll make you custom concoction.

Check out the Alchemy Bar menu here.

3. Sunset Bar

Ship: Celebrity Beyond

Technically, many Celebrity ships have a Sunset Bar, but none are as spectacular and large as the one on the line’s brand-new Edge-class vessel Celebrity Beyond.

For the first time, the ship features a two-story Sunset Bar, and it’s almost twice the size of the same bar area on other ships. Created by designer Nate Berkus and architect Tom Wright, the globally-influenced, upscale space features conversation alcoves, a pergola-covered entrance, and plush daybeds. It also seamlessly connects to the alfresco dining area of the Oceanview Café buffet below.

4. Blue Eye Lounge

Ships: Ponant’s Le Laperouse, Le Champlain, Le Bougainville, and Le Dumont-d’Urville

Step into Ponant’s Blue Eye Lounge, and you’re instantly transported into an entirely new world under the sea — the whale’s eye-inspired space is below the water line.

The multi-sensory lounge features two portholes made of a whopping 18 layers of glass, where you can view the ocean’s flora and fauna. If you don’t see much out the windows, there are cameras installed on the bow and aft, with images projected in this lounge — offering more opportunities to see dolphins racing the ship. Hydrophones are installed on the ship’s underwater exterior, with the receiving end of the audio in the Blue Eye.

The lounge also includes what Ponant calls “Body Listening Sofas” — which vibrate in unison with the streaming aquatic acoustics.

The only drinks served in the Blue Eye Lounge can be poured or made quietly so as not to disturb the serene atmosphere. This means no loud bar equipment — such as blenders or shakers — is allowed.

To get a detailed look at Blue Eye Lounge, check out this video from Harr Travel on YouTube:

5. Sugarcane Mojito Bar

Ships: Norwegian Bliss, Dawn, Encore, Escape, Gem, Getaway, Jade, Jewel, Joy, Pearl, and Star

If you want to try all the mojitos, Norwegian Cruise Line ‘s Sugarcane Mojito Bar is the place to be. The Havana-themed venue features live Latin-Cuban music at various times and serves up unique mojitos like the Raspberry Guava Mojito, the Jalapeño Cucumber Mojito, and the Spicy Passion Mojito. If you can’t decide, the bar offers a mojito flight with six drinks.

6. Bionic Bar

Ships: Anthem, Quantum, Ovation, Spectrum, Odyssey, Harmony, Symphony, and Wonder of the Seas

The Bionic Bar has become a staple on some of Royal Caribbean ’s Quantum and Oasis-class ships. Here, you may order your beverage on one of many digital tablets around the bar, and watch the robotic arm selecting bottles and pouring concoctions.

This isn’t usually a bar that many people become regulars at — given the lack of a human bartender, which often keeps people returning to the same place — but it’s a must-visit at least once or twice during a sailing.

7. RedFrog Pub & Brewery

Ship: Carnival Vista

Carnival Cruise Line has a few versions of its RedFrog outposts. The most popular are the poolside RedFrog Rum Bar and the indoor/outdoor RedFrog Pub, which can be found on most ships in the fleet.

Mardi Gras has a two-story RedFrog Tiki Bar by the Lido pool, and Carnival Vista has an amped-up version of the RedFrog Pub called RedFrog Pub & Brewery. This indoor/outdoor venue features a full bar, plenty of table space, live music, table games, and the first-ever brewery on a United States-based cruise ship.

That’s right! You can sip a beer right on board.

8. Half Moon Bar

Ship: Holland America’s Rotterdam

Rotterdam ’s Half Moon Bar is a venue brimming with history, offering a unique look at Holland America Line throughout the years through the lens of a cocktail — each served with a tale of its inspiration as described in the bar menu.

Drinks on the menu include “The Original,” which celebrates the line’s first ship Rotterdam I; “Three Mile Run,” a prohibition cocktail that tells the story of HAL’s Prohibition-era cruises to nowhere; and “May She Be Blessed,” an ode to the godmothers who bless each new Holland America ship when she debuts.

Half Moon Bar won “Best Beverage Menu” at the 2022 VIBE Vista Awards, which spans the entire beverage industry with the competition, including restaurant groups, hotel chains, casinos, and beyond. If you’re sailing Rotterdam, this is a bar not to be missed.

9. Venchi 1878 Chocolate Bar

Ships: MSC Seaside , Seaview , and Seashore

These ships in MSC have two Venchi outposts: one at the aft offering gelato and the indoor with prominent location offering chocolates, coffees, cocktails, and other delicious treats.

Inside, I tried a delicious coffee drink called the Marocchino and the chocolate martini, which was incredible. If you’re in the mood for a rich, hot chocolate coffee drink or a chocolate cocktail, do not miss spending some time at Venchi.

10. Eden Bar

Ships: Celebrity Edge, Apex, and Beyond

Step into the lush, light-filled Eden Bar on Celebrity Cruises ’ Edge-class ships. The three-story area includes a café, specialty restaurant, plenty of seating, evening entertainment, and a bar.

The Eden Bar is located on the middle deck of Eden and features a unique menu of cocktails made with fresh ingredients, including herbs in “Library of Plants.” Drinks are made with unique ingredients, with names like “Village,” “Garden,” “Fig,” “Shaman,” and “Pea.”

11. Hook’s Barbery

This barbershop in Disney Cruise Line ‘s Disney Wise wouldn’t look anything extraordinary. But explore further, and you’ll see that the barbershop, themed after Captain Hook and his ship Jolly Roger from Peter Pan, has its own bar. There, guests can enjoy whiskey tastings and custom Old Fashioneds while being pampered at the same time.

You can still go there if you want to have bar experience without getting a barbershop service.

12. Viking Crown Lounge

Ships: Almost every Royal Caribbean International vessel built prior to 2014 has a Viking Crown Lounge, but the location may vary

A staple of Royal Caribbean ships for decades, the Viking Crown Lounge is a striking architectural feature, which is a favorite spot for many Royal Caribbean cruisers.

The “in the round” bar and lounge sits atop the ship, given the lido deck (on most ships), offering panoramic views of the scenery surrounding the ship.

It’s a great spot to watch the world go by during daytime while chatting with friends and family. At night, Viking Crown Lounge lights up with live music, strobe lights, and dancing.

13. District Brew House

Ships: Norwegian Escape, Bliss, Joy, and Encore

Norwegian Cruise Line touts District Brew House as the first “craft beer hall” at sea. Between bottles and beers on tap, there are over 70 different brews to choose from.

What I love most about this venue as a non-beer drinker is its ambiance and location. I’ve personally been to District Brew House on Norwegian Joy and Encore, and I loved sitting on a couch right by the window.

Instead of looking down onto a promenade deck or lifeboat, you’ll experience the unobstructed view of the ocean from the windows at District Brew House. It’s nice to look down and see the ship slicing through the water from a seat at nighttime.

If you have a friend with you, don’t miss a chance to go to District Brew House with them. The menu also includes cocktails on tap, spirits, and ciders; and the atmosphere is well worth it.

14. Rising Tide Bar

Ships: Oasis, Allure, Harmony, Symphony, and Wonder of the Seas

Rising Tide Bar is an elevator bar. This mobile bar moves up and down between the Royal Promenade and Central Park neighborhoods on Royal Caribbean ’s mega Oasis-class ships. So hop onto the Rising Tide Bar to enjoy a beer, wine, spirit, or cocktail and people-watch on multiple ship decks.

15. Red Bar

Ships: Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet and Valiant Lady

Adjacent to the red, black, and white Razzle Dazzle Restaurant is the aptly named Red Bar in Virgin Voyages ‘ Scarlet and Valiant Lady.

Here, you’ll see features wacky and weird cocktails like goldfish (served in a goldfish-shaped glass), popcorn old-fashioned (served in a container that looks like a popcorn carton), donut tell me, and gym bunny.

Fresh-pressed juices, tonics, beers, champagnes, and wines can also be found at Red Bar.

Scarlet Lady's Red Bar Restaurant

16. Bamboo Room

Ship: Mariner and Navigator of the Seas

Royal Caribbean calls this Polynesian-themed watering hole a “tiki-chic lounge.” The exotic, colorful hideaway encourages guests to sit and escape for a while, with cocktails made with exotic fruits and spices like the double-rum soaked Banana Colada, Island Old Fashioned, Bamboo Swizzle, and Royal Zombie.

Small plates like Asian noodle salad, Hawaiian BBQ pulled pork sliders, and coconut crab bruschetta are also available.

Given my love for tiki bars, this is a spot I’d love to see Royal expand onto more ships in the fleet.

Bamboo Room of Royal Caribbean

17. The Bayou

One of the prettiest, lush bars on Disney Cruise Line ‘s Disney Wish is The Bayou, inspired by the film The Princess and the Frog.

By day, the spacious lounge hosts various activities and serves fresh juices, specialty coffees, and cold brew cocktails. By night, the venue is reserved for adults only, and features live jazz music, serving beer and wine and concoctions such as the New Orleans classic Hurricane, an Absinthe Frappe, and an Orleans Crusta.

Guests can also enjoy warm beignets at The Bayou. The upscale spot is the perfect after-dinner place to settle in with good music, drinks, and company.

Interior of Disney Wish's The Bayou

18. Wonderland Bar

Ships: Quantum, Anthem, Ovation, Harmony, Symphony, and Wonder of the Seas

The Alice in Wonderland-inspired specialty restaurant Wonderland is loved by many Royal Caribbean cruisers. The venue features quirky interior design elements and even stranger food — most of which, at first glance, are unidentifiable. It’s a restaurant where you check your serious side at the door and enter a whimsy and surprise world.

To give you an idea of what’s in store, one of the venue’s mixologists said: “We all drink like we all eat: with our eyes first.” Cocktails are magical and fanciful, with names such as Dream Catcher, Helios in the Sand, The Stowaway, and Wondering Ice. At Wonderland, there’s only one thing to expect: the unexpected.

19. The Golden Jubilee

Ship: Carnival Celebration

Carnival Cruise Line ‘s The Golden Jubilee will be another bar steeped in its cruise line’s history.

Last year, Carnival announced that this brand-new bar would be filled with artwork, memorabilia, and original pieces from the line’s earlier vessels.

Examples include an original glass and mahogany partition wall from TSS Mardi Gras , brass and glass nightclub doors from TSS Carnivale (which will frame one of the lounge’s entrances), and an original bronze statue of Carnival Founder Ted Arison and Finnish shipbuilder Martin Saarikangas, given as a gift from the Kvaerner Masa-Yards to Carnival when Carnival Sensation was delivered in 1993.

The space will also have plenty of seating, live music, and a dance floor. It will offer the most popular cocktails through the decades since 1972 Carnival was founded.

26 Cocktails and Tips for Your Next Cruise

By Beers & Beans

If there’s one down side to traveling as a couple, it’s that we don’t have to go out of our way to meet people if we don’t want to. On trips, it’s all too easy to become insulated in our own traveling bubble, sharing the experience with one another while the world swirls around us. To ensure that this didn’t happen on our Carnival Caribbean cruise , we decided to create a fun assignment for ourselves, in which we would buy cocktails for 26 different people—each drink, though, would have to start with a different letter of the alphabet. Plus, we thought we could grab a tip or “best cruise moment” from each person to create a unique cruising guide.

The laughs started flowing right from the start and kept going until the very last cocktail, even as we struggled to fill in the final few letters—Q…X…Y…Z—on our final sea day. During the seven day cruise, we got to spend time at every bar on the ship for our A to Z drink assignment.  And while we enjoyed each, our personal favorites were the poolside bars on the Lido deck. RedFrog Rum Bar and BlueIguana Tequila Bar both had a tiki bar feel, and the bartenders really knew their stuff when it came to mixing up island-style cocktails. So, without further ado, here’s our cruise guide—Beers and Beans style!

  • ½ oz. vodka ½ oz. rum

Hats off to the bartender because this variation of the Bloody Mary was delicious and spicy.)

C. Colorado Bulldog

E. Electric Lemonade

  • 1 oz. Blue Curacao liqueur

  • Malibu Coconut Rum
  • Blue Curaçao Bombay

  • 2 lime wedges

  • 1½ oz. peach schnapps
  • 4-6 oz. frozen mango mix

L. Long Island Iced Tea

  • 1 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. triple sec
  • 1½ oz. sweet and sour mix

What you’ll need it:

  • 1 oz. white rum
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice

How to make it: Shake all the ingredients with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.

Cruise Tip: Casey B., of Forest City, Arkansas, recommends bringing a small cooler with you. She says you can use it to keep drinks cold in your room (the ice bucket is too small and the mini fridge isn’t very cold) and you can also use it to take drinks ashore with you.

Y. Yellow Bird

  • 1 oz. Bacardi 151 rum
  • ½ oz. Galliano herbal liqueur
  • 4 oz. sweet and sour mix

How to make it : Mix all of the ingredients in a highball glass. Then fill the glass with the sweet and sour mix and stir.

Can I bring alcohol on a cruise ship? A line-by-line guide

Fran Golden

Unsurprisingly, cruise lines make revenue by selling drinks to their passengers — and with a large markup. With that in mind, many newbie cruisers wonder if they can bring their own alcohol on board. The answer varies by cruise line, but in most cases, it's both yes and no.

If the cruise line allows alcohol — which, in the case of mainstream lines, is mostly only wine or Champagne — there will likely be rules that limit the number and size of bottles, as well as per-bottle corkage fees (usually $10 to $25) that you must pay if you consume the alcohol outside of your cabin.

If you are allowed to bring a bottle or two and choose to do so, you must carry it on rather than pack it in your checked luggage. So, if you're flying to the port and choose to bring alcohol from home instead of purchasing it in port before embarkation, you'll have to transfer your booze from your checked bag to your carry-on.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

On luxury ships , you might be able to bring as many bottles of booze as you like and replenish your supplies at the ports of call, too. Don't miss buying Bordeaux in Bordeaux!

The rules for bringing your own alcohol generally apply to passengers 21 and older. The bottles must be unopened and sealed.

If you think it's easy to sneak alcohol on a cruise ship — in a flask, mouthwash bottle, water bottle or other container — you're wrong. Cruise lines know the tricks. If you get caught, the container will be taken away and discarded, and you could be prevented from sailing.

Alcohol purchased in the ship's duty-free shops will be stored for you and returned at the end of your voyage.

With all that in mind, here is a line-by-line rundown of cruise line policies for bringing your own alcohol on ships.

Azamara Cruises

You can bring your own liquor, beer or wine for consumption in your Azamara suite or cabin at no charge. If you want to drink your own bottle in a dining venue or bar, there's a $10 corkage fee. The same rule applies to alcohol purchased in ports. If you buy a bottle at the duty-free shop, it will be stored until the end of your cruise.

Carnival Cruise Line

cocktail bar cruise ship

At embarkation on Carnival Cruise Line ships, passengers 21 and older may bring on board one 750-milliliter bottle of wine or Champagne (sealed and unopened) per person packed in their carry-on luggage. There is a corkage fee of $15 if you drink your bottle outside your cabin. That rum you purchased in port will be retained for you until the last night of your cruise. The same goes for any onboard duty-free purchases. You'll collect checked alcohol in a designated lounge before you disembark.

Celebrity Cruises

You can bring two bottles of wine or Champagne (maximum of 750 milliliters each) on board at embarkation, per cabin, on Celebrity Cruises ' ships. However, beer and spirits are not allowed. There is a corkage fee of $25 in restaurants or bars. Anything you purchase at port or the duty-free onboard shop is held until the last day of your sailing.

Cunard Line

Holland America Line allows adults 21 and older to bring bottles of wine or Champagne on board in their carry-on, but there is a corkage fee of $20 per bottle for the privilege (even if you drink the wine or Champagne in your cabin). The policy does not specify the maximum number of bottles allowed but says cruise officials reserve the right to decide if you're bringing too much and could force you to check some of it until the end of your sailing. No beer, liquor or boxed wine is allowed.

You can bring wine on board from ports, but any other liquor purchases will be retained until the end of the cruise. One bottle of wine per person is exempt from the $20 corkage fee if purchased ashore as part of a winery visit arranged through Holland America.

Norwegian Cruise Line

You may bring wine or Champagne on board Norwegian Cruise Line voyages, including 1,500-milliliter magnum bottles, and there is no limit on the number of bottles. Corkage fees are based on size and range from $15 to $30. They apply even if you plan to drink the bottles in your cabin. Corkage fees do not apply to passengers with beverage packages.

No liquor, beer or boxed wine can be brought and consumed on board. (These bottles and duty-free purchases will be held until the final night of the cruise or the morning of disembarkation.)

Oceania Cruises

You may bring on board up to six bottles of wine or Champagne per cabin (60 bottles for world cruises) at embarkation. You may also bring bottles purchased during visits to ports of call. There is a corkage fee of $25 per bottle if you consume your bottles in public areas on Oceania 's ships. Beer or liquor brought on board or purchased in port will be held until the end of the cruise, and the same applies to wine and Champagne purchased in port.

Additional bottles may be brought on board Princess Cruises sailings but are subject to a $20 corkage fee no matter where they are consumed. Port purchases are held until the end of the cruise.
