London has many cracking craft beer taprooms and some of the best breweries in the world. Better still, there are many London brewery tours and craft beer tastings to enjoy.

Try freshly brewed beer and food pairings or even make your own craft beer concoctions with help from skilled brewers, there are a lot of London brewery tours to suit all tastes (and budgets).

From a bevy of beer tastings along Bermondsey Beer Mile to one of the oldest London surviving breweries from the 16th century, here is our guide to the best brewery tours in London (2023):

1. Fullers Brewery Tour, Chiswick

Fullers Brewery in Chiswick, West London is one of London’s most historic breweries, with brewing starting on the site from 1654.

Known around the world for their iconic ‘London Pride’, the Fuller’s Brewery Tour is a unique way to go behind the scenes of the Griffin Brewery and understand more about the brewing process as well as see vast quantities of brewing vats old and new.

Better still, the Fuller’s Brewery Tours culminate in a visit to their very own brewery bar, a treasure trove of Fuller’s own beers and ales to try, as well as from other breweries.

2. Greenwich Meantime Brewery Tour

A relative ‘newby’ on the brewing scene, the Meantime Brewery in Greenwich first site opened in 2010, after originally being brewed in nearby Charlton.

Meantime Brewing is now one of the most established breweries in London and you’ll see their beer being poured in most major London bars.

They have a couple of bases in Greenwich including their main brewery and taproom in North Greenwich where you can do a guided brewery tour and beer tasting.

You can enjoy a Meantime Brewery tour at their Tasting Room in North Greenwich at Blackwall Lane, which lasts 1.5 hours and enables you to sample most of Meantime’s core craft beer range. The Meantime Brewery tour also includes 4 x ⅓ pint tastings.

3. Bermondsey Beer Mile tour

Comprising almost 20 breweries and counting, the Bermondsey Beer Mile is likely London’s best beer experience by quite some distance (by a…erm… mile).

From tiny taprooms to brand spanking new bars, and craft cideries to hipster hangouts, there is a Bermondsey Beer Mile brewery to suit everyone’s tastes.

A good way to get to know the Bermondsey Beer Mile better is by doing a Bermondsey Beer Mile tour. 

We recently did a Bermondsey Beer Mile tour with UK Brewery Tours – their Bermondsey Cheese, Meat and Beer tour was right up our street and a fun way to explore the Bermondsey Beer Mile, get insights into the brewing process plus meet with fellow beer enthusiasts or casual craft beer fans.

By the end of the tour, everyone was very chatty – maybe it had something to do with all the lovely beers we got to try along the way.

4. Camden Town Brewery Tour

One of the newest brewery taprooms in North London and the spiritual home of Hell’s Lager (which you now see on tap in most of London’s pubs), Camden Town Brewery offers brewery tours plus tasters in their taproom.

Their sleek beer hall (located in nearby Kentish Town) has over 20 different beers on tap plus a walk-in fridge and merchandise shop.

A big space with a huge bar (more corporate than quirky), Camden Town Brewery Beer Hall is a welcoming place and beer drinking space which caters for all group sizes and all tastes (given their sheer number of beers on tap) – it also has a small outdoor drinking area too, perfect for summer months.

Better still, Camden Town Brewery offer regular brewery tours which include beer tasting at source. (Camden) Hells yeah!

5. The Five Points London Brewery Tour & Taproom, Hackney

Five Points Brewery and taproom is a couple of minutes away from London Fields and Broadway Market on Mare Street.

A great set-up on the site where they brew all their beers, the Five Points Brewery beer garden (well, craft beer in a car park!) has a pop-up bar with a combination of their own Five Points range and guest beers on tap.

Five Points core range includes an extra pale ale (XPA), Pils and our favourite, a chocolatey coffee Railway Porter.

Five Points Brewery also offer their London: Craft Brewery Tour, with at least four tastings and a 1.5 tour of their east London brewery. Brewery tours at Five Points brewing start from £20 per person.

6. Bianca Road Brewery Tour, Bermondsey

One of the larger indoor drinking areas on the Bermondsey Beer Mile, Bianca Road Brew Co taproom feels primed for a party with one of the best set-ups along the Bermondsey Beer Mile. Bonus points too for Bianca Road Brew Co’s wall posters and artwork.

Originally hailing from Peckham, Bianca Road Brew specialise in West Coast American style beers They have all the usual beery goodness like IPA, APA and lager but also some of the more interesting craft concoctions.

Bianca Road Brewery Tours start from £20 per person and include a guided tasting, four halves of Bianca Road Brewery beer.

7. Blackhorse Beer Mile Brewery Tours, Blackhorse Road, Walthamstow

The Blackhorse Beer Mile 2023 runs between the Lockwood Industrial Estate (Wildcard Brewery and Hackney Brewery High Hill Taproom) and Uplands Business Park ( Signature Brew , Hackney Brewery & High Hill Taproom , Big Penny Social , Beerblefish Brewing, Exale Brewing and now Pretty Decent Beer Co ). Seven brewery heaven!

As at early 2023, The Blackhorse Beer Mile currently comprises seven breweries and taprooms (with more likely planned)!  Plus if you visit all of the magnificent seven, you get to keep a special ‘Blackhorse Beer Mile’ pint glass – cheers to that!

8. Anspach & Hobday Brewery – Croydon and Bermondsey tours

Underneath the arches, Anspach and Hobday is a compact taproom in the thick of the brewing vats, although most of their brewing is done at their new Croydon brewery.

What they lack in size at their Bermondsey Beer Mile is made up for by their super friendly staff and varied range (a mix of core and collaborations).

And their newer Croydon Anspach and Hobday brewery is a big and beautiful brewery beast to behold (try saying that after several stouts).

9. Pillars Brewery Tours, Walthamstow

Pillars Brewery have two venues across Walthamstow – their taproom on Uplands Business Park (in the vicinity of Walthamstow Village) and also their Untraditional Pub at Walthamstow Crate.

At their main brewery near Walthamstow Village ,  you can drink amongst Pillars brewing vats and you can also do a 2 hours Pillars Brewery Tour.

This London brewery tour at Pillars in Walthamstow includes tastings of 6 beers with accompanying food pairings plus a tour behind the scenes – talk about a classy craft beer brewery tour!

Pillars Brewery core taps range is generally their Pillars Pilsner (4.0% abv), their Rebel Helles Lager (4.8% abv) and our current favourite, the Untraditional Session IPL (4.5%).

10. Signature Brew Brewery Tour, Blackhorse Road

One of the bigger taprooms on the Walthamstow Beer Mile, we rate Signature Brew as one of our best taproom experiences in London (maybe because we’re suckers for their Nightliner coffee porter).

Signature Brew especially excel at their live music gigs and partnerships (e.g. they recently announced a new collaboration with Rough Trade records in 2023).

The set-up here at Signature Brew is excellent with a recently opened bar out the front of the brewery complete with mezzanine sun terrace and kitchen on top.

Signature Brew also has a big beer garden out the front where you can drink amongst the brewing vats (the garden is also pooch friendly too). Signature Brew brewery tours cost £20 pp on selected Saturdays as at March 2023.

11. Battersea Brewery

We love Battersea – there are so many things to do in Battersea especially since the riverside area was transformed and the Power Station revitalised.

This is no truer than the recent (ish) opening of Battersea Brewery. With ample indoor and outdoor seating, the brewery is located in the Arches Lane area.

The sheer number of beers on tap at any one time at Battersea Brewery is a delight and indoors, you can sit amongst the huge brewery vats.

As well as tasting beers, you can take a tour of Battersea Brewery and accompanying a tasting flight with a cheese toastie starting at £25 per person (by request only).

12. Hawkes Cidery & Taproom (temporarily closed as at March 2023)

One of the coolest looking bars on the Bermondsey Beer Mile , this taproom has bags of character and style – plus damn fine cider!

With well stocked fridges (which include beers in case you aren’t a cider fan) and a huge seating area, there are often specials to be had here, as well as a pizza menu and tours of the brewery.

Please note as at March 2023, the Hawkes Cider London brewery tours are currently suspended.

13. Kraft Dalston

We visited the Kraft Dalston brewery on opening night and were blown away by its interiors and delicious German style beer range.

Onsite at Kraft Dalston, you’ll discover Seoul in a Bottle Korean restaurant (their Korean street food is spot on), plus you can take a behind the scenes brewery tour. Prices start at £35 per person (as of March 2023).

14. Small Beer Brewery Tour (closed)

Small beer, low alcohol, big taste!

Another Bermondsey brewery, enjoy a tasting tour at Small Beer and discover how they make their low ABV beers.

The Small Beer brewery tour in south London lasts for around an hour and includes a welcome drink as well as four tasters along the way. Brewery tours at Small Beer Co start from £15 per person as at March 2023.

15. Brixton Brewery Tours

You may have heard of the Bermondsey Beer Mile and maybe even the Blackhorse Beer Mile or Leytonstone Beer Mile , but how about the Brixton Beer Trail?

Consisting of 6 breweries, the Brixton Beer Trail is well served by Stockwell and Brixton London Underground stations and is a relatively new addition to the London craft beer and brewery scene.

The 6 breweries, bars and taprooms along the Brixton Beer Trail are Affinity The Grosvenor, London Beer Lab , Ghost Whale Brixton , Dogs Grandad Brewery , Friendship Adventure Brewery and Craft Metropolis Brixton.

Located smack bang between the Greenwich Peninsula and Cutty Sark, Brew By Numbers Morden Wharf Brewery is easily one of the best London’s riverside pubs and taprooms – a serious craft beer brew with a view!

Similar in design (minimalist) to their Bermondsey Beer Mile taprooms in an industrialist setting, BBNO’s south east London taproom not only has an incredible range on tap (try their traditional and rich BBNO Porter – 6.4% abv; oof!) but also has an amazing riverside setting, boasting views of the River Thames.

BBNO offer London brewery tours at their Morden Wharf / Greenwich brewery site  – however their brewery tours are held at random dates, not weekly etc.

17. Brixton London Beer Lab

Ever fancied making your own beer? If not, seriously why not? The London Beer Lab is a Brixton microbrewery that makes your hop-infused dreams come true, allowing you to concoct your very own craft beer, following 5 different beer recipes.

Group workshops or individual brewing sessions and beer tastings are available at Beer Lab London – so instead of just beer tasting in London, why not make your own craft beer concoction!

18. Sambrook’s Brewery Heritage Tours, Wandsworth

A wonderful, Wandsworth taproom, Sambrook’s Brewery tap in the Ram Quarter is a nice mix of new taproom fixtures surrounded by history and heritage of Sambrook’s brewing site, the oldest continually brewing site in the country (since 1533!) and London’s oldest independent brewery.

The set-up at Sambrook’s Brewery tap is really well done and what we loved about our Sambrook’s Brewery experience was the friendly bar staff, the tasting flights and the industrial interiors.

Sambrook’s Brewery offers Heritage tours costing £15pp which start with a tutored tasting and followed by a tour of the heritage centre. Sambrooks Brewery tours last around 60 minutes and end with a free pint!

19. Four Pure Brewery Tour in Bermondsey

Our final ‘best London Brewery tour’ is Fourpure Brewery in Bermondsey.

Probably our favourite overall taproom experience on the Bermondsey Beer Mile in terms of the venue itself is Fourpure. Whilst less ‘personal’ than other taprooms on the Beer Mile (due to its huge size and massive throughflow of drinkers), this is a ‘new’ Fourpure Brewery  taproom, opened in summer 2019.

You could easily spend all day in Fourpure’s taproom, with a light and bright modern interior decor, good food offerings, massive TVs (and also a gift-shop!).

Fourpure offer a weekly brewery tour and tasting in south London every Saturday for £25 per person, lasting 1.5 hours and accompanied with a tasting flight.

20. Borough Market Craft Beer Tour (closed)

We love Borough Market – there is no better way to spend a few hours than exploring all the food stalls, sampling dishes from all over the world. 

That said, whilst most go for the food experience, Borough Market has plenty of beery history to explore.

UK Brewery Tours offer a dedicated Borough Market Craft Beer private tour that explores the brewing history of Borough Market before heading along to more breweries along the Bermondsey Beer Mile. Hops and history are always a good combination we find!

Finally – one London brewery tour to totally avoid:

London fields brewery.

We hate to name and shame but this was without doubt the worst London brewery tour we ever undertook and the experience stills maddens us to this day.

The first time we turned up, the London Fields Brewery was closed without any announcement so we had a totally wasted trip to east London.

When they bothered to open up next time, the London Fields Brewery Tour was a total sham – you literally went into one room (there was no brewing) and see nothing.

The staff member admitted she was so disinterested and hungover that if we wanted to know about the history of brewing at London Fields, we were best to Google it. You cannot make this up!

We were then given a couple of jugs of beers to share in the bar amongst about 8 of us – the whole debacle was less than an hour.

Breweries definitely need our support more than ever but this was an absolute shocking tour.

Sick of hitting the ‘Spoons on a Friday night? Impress mates and dates by taking them to any one of these independent brewery taprooms, where London craft beers and house ales can be sampled in the comfort of the brewery or affiliated bar. After all, the best London breweries are surely the ones where you can sample straight from the source. Read on for our selection, but bear in mind that opening hours can be changeable, so check Twitter first to avoid going thirsty.

• Bars and pubs

Just minutes from London Bridge, Anspach & Hobday serve their range of quirky and quality beers including Pale Ale and Smoked Brown. Enjoy with food from the nearby Maltby Street Market.

Beavertown Brewery

Few London breweries have expanded at the phenomenal rate of Beavertown, which now occupies a huge warehouse space in Tottenham. Whether such progress owes anything to the fact that its founder happens to be the son of Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, we couldn’t possibly comment. But when the beer – as bold and brash as its can art – is so consistently good, who cares?

Bexley Brewery

Currently the only brewery in its borough, its labels are unmistakably recognisable by their wild, ring-necked parakeets (also an icon of the local area).

Bianca Road Brewing Co

One of south London’s newer breweries occupies a massive warehouse space just off of Old Kent Road. As well as hosting regular Sofar Sounds gigs, the taproom opens for on-site drinking and takeaways every Friday. The beer line-up is heavily influenced by sessionable styles from the American west coast, with all except the Red Rye clocking in under 5% ABV.

Big Smoke Brew Co

Described as (almost all) vegan friendly, Big Smoke Brew Co makes flavourful, punchy and additive-free beer – drink it at The Antelope in Surbiton where it’s based.

Brew by Numbers

A marriage of Belgian, Australian and New Zealand brewing styles, this brewery prides itself on creating new, high-quality, forward-thinking beers.

Brick Brewery

Brick was founded in 2013 and is located under the arches of Peckham Rye Station; its taproom hosts a range of their core cask, keg and bottled beers, including the amazing London Brick rye.

Brixton Brewery

Even the grandparents and kids of this family-run business pitch in and lend a hand in the creation of these beers in the heart of Brixton, highlighting the breweries’ emphasis on community spirit.

Brockley Brewery

Brockley Brewery was founded by a group of local residents who felt that the area’s thriving local community was lacking good-quality ales. Housed in a disused builder’s workshop, it opened its doors to the public in 2013 so that everyone could take advantage of a brewery on their doorstep.

Bullfinch Brewery & Bar

Occupying a pair of small railway arches next to Brockwell Park, Bullfinch specialises in punchy American-style pales. Its beers are becoming a feature of some of the city’s finest craft beer pubs, but the best way to sample the full range is by settling down with a tasting flight in the on-site taproom.

From a homebrew kit in a garage, this brewery now features a taproom boasting flagship ales, limited-edition beers and guest ales from other fantastic local breweries.

• Kentish Town

From Thursday to Saturday, the brewery’s taproom plays host to a variety of street food vendors along with beers such as the famous Camden Hells Lager.

Canopy Beer Tap Room

Featuring both guest and house ales on tap such as the Milkwood Amber Ale, this brewery also showcases a range of gins and ciders made in the local area. Sit outside in the taproom beer garden or inside if the weather isn’t all that great.

Through the back of the George and Dragon pub, the Dragonfly Brewery makes a range of seasonal cask ales.

Fourpure Brewery

Fourpure is one of south London's largest breweries, and there's always something new and exciting across its taproom's 16 taps.

Fuller's Brewery

This west-London stalwart has been mashing, boiling and fermenting since long before today’s brewers were twinkles in their grandfathers’ beards. The on-site shop is the best place to find Fuller’s lesser known beers (don’t worry, there’s lots of London Pride too), and the £20 brewery tour includes plenty of tastings.

Gipsy Hill Brewing Co. Tap Room

• West Norwood

If you live within a mile, you’re entitled to a 15 percent discount off everything in the brewery; even more of a reason to check out the range of moreish ales.

Hop Stuff Brewery

A short walk from the brewery itself, the fittingly named Taproom is a permanent stockist of the Hop Stuff Brewery’s entire range as well as other local breweries and locally sourced food.

Howling Hops

The first of its kind, this taproom serves its beer directly from the tank, as opposed to the more traditional cask or keg. It serves ten different beers, including the Howling Pils, as well as coffee, meats and sarnies.

London Brewing Co

Specially matching their handcrafted beer to their food, the staff at The Bull pub in Highgate will always find something to your taste.

Long Arm Pub & Brewery

More than 200 years after a brewery originally opened on the site, the Ealing Park Tavern is now home to the Long Arm Brewing Company, which currently serves Red Ale, Pale Ale and an American IPA.

When Howling Hops expanded into a bigger site in Hackney Wick, its birthplace in the basement below the Cock Tavern on Mare Street was taken over by this fledgling outfit. The Cock’s taps are constantly home to at least a handful of Maregade’s brews, which tend toward traditional English styles.

Meantime Brewing Company

• Greenwich Peninsula

The Tasting Rooms at the Meantime Brewing Co are located in the heart of the brewery, giving you the opportunity to watch the brewers work their magic while you enjoy a pint of their refreshing London Lager.

Mondo Brewing Company

Featuring four core ales, including a Düsseldorf style ‘old ale’ and seasonal offerings to match, this south London brewhouse takes inspiration from all over the world to create its beers.

One Mile End

Though there’s no taproom at One Mile End’s big new Tottenham site, the pub beneath which the brewery was born – The White Hart in Whitechapel – still flies the flag, showcasing the latest stuff out of the tanks. The Salvation! pale ale is a reliable session-starter.

Partizan Brewery

The distinctive, brightly coloured labels of this brewery make the idea of sampling its range of pale ales and saisons even more enticing. Check them out every Saturday afternoon and drink in or take away.

Redchurch Brewery Taproom

• Bethnal Green

Inviting their favourite musicians and DJs along to complement the beer, these Bethnal Green brewers have turned their brewery into a destination.

Southwark Brewing Co

Visit for an after-work pint on a Friday or during the day on a Saturday for a range of six hand-pulled cask beers and several others straight from the cask. Combine with food from the local Maltby Street Market.

This Bermondsey operation is unique among London breweries in that it also houses a collection of small pilot kits with which, for a monthly fee, truly dedicated hopheads can brew their own. As well as producing its own range of house beers, Ubrew also leases its full-size kit out to a small group of fledgling commercial brewers – notably Old Kent Rd Brewery – who are gaining a reputation in their own right.

The craft beer will visit 3/4 venues and include on average around 7 samples of beer. Each sample is the equivalent of a small glass of beer. The total amount that this would accumulate to throughout the tour would be approximately 3 pints. We highly recommended having a substantial meal before the tour as no food is included. There will be an opportunity to eat at the end of the tour and our guide will happily recommend a few options. During the tour you will have the opportunity to purchase salty snacks from the venues.

As the emphasis on this tour is on alcoholic beverages, this tour is not suitable for families with children under 18. However our food tour is child and family friendly and a great option for children over 6.

As this tours emphasis is on alcoholic beverages, this tour would not be suitable for anyone that does not drink alcohol.

We strongly recommend purchasing our Food Upgrade to accompany your drinking during the tour. Failing that, there will be an opportunity to eat at the end of the tour at a sustainable market with many, many international food options available to purchase independently. Our guide will happily recommend a few of these. During the tour you will have the opportunity to purchase salty snacks from the venues.

Our weekly craft beer tours around South London aim to shine a light on the city’s best craft breweries. Your tour guide on the day will take you on a 3 ½ hour guided tour around the Clapham/Battersea area and you’ll visit several craft beer venues along the way. In each venue, a resident expert will tell you all about the brewery and guide you through the beers you drink.

London has a fantastic craft beer scene with over 130 breweries based in the city. Our Bermondsey beer tour will include the best breweries and tap rooms of the city's famous 'beer mile'. Groups of up to 20 will be personally be guided by me to 4 tap rooms enabling the inquisitive traveller to easily engage with my city's craft beer scene. 

An accredited Beer Sommelier and Certified Cicerone® I will give you a tutored beer tasting where you will discover how sensory analysts and beer judges evaluate the qualities and styles characteristics in a glass of beer. You will also come away with knowledge of the beer styles that you are tasting, their history and evolution. This is a step up from a traditional tasting tour and elevates beer tasting experiences to another level.

Further Details

A brief history of the brewery is given before the tour starts. Logan Plant, the son of legendary rocker Robert Plant, started the business because he was passionate about brewing beer. He initially did his brewing in his kitchen and later built the current brewery. The old Cockney term for the neighbourhood where the brewery is located, De Beauvoir Town, inspired the name of the brewery, Beavertown.

The brewhouse, where the brewing process is carried out, is the first stop on the tour. Visitors can learn more about the four essential components of beer (water, malt, hops, and yeast) and how Beavertown’s numerous beers are made here. The brewhouse, which creates over 40 distinct beers, is a striking sight with its tall steel tanks and intricate piping systems.

The fermentation room is the next stop for tourists, where they can view the beers at various stages of fermentation. This is where the magic happens, turning the beer from a sweet liquid into a fizzy alcoholic beverage. The beer selection at Beavertown spans the typical Pale Ale and IPA to more novel concoctions like the Smog Rocket, a smoked porter.

Visitors can try some of the beers they just learnt about during the tour’s tasting session at the Taproom. With a variety of Beavertown’s regular and seasonal beers on tap, The Taproom is a roomy and fashionable bar. The bar is the ideal spot to unwind after the tour because it also offers a variety of delectable snacks and meals.

Since then, hundreds of batches of beer have lovingly been brewed to give us the quality beers that Anderson Ales offers today. This brewery is 100% family-owned and 100% worth a visit if you are in London.

You’ll find top notch craft beers in this tap room along with a variety of games to play with friends. Check out their retail store and upcoming events while you’re there and don’t forget to grab your favourite brews to go on your way out!

Customer Review: This brewery is really something special. I’ve tried every brewery in London and this is by far the best. They offer a very good range of beers. Some are pretty simple, true to style brews while others are super creative and interesting. The commonality is that all of them are great. On top of that, their food is also really good. We got the duck poutine and were quite surprised with how good it was. Highly recommend this place!

The London Brewing Co-op is a worker owned cooperative. It’s unique in that it offers the opportunity to come and actually work with them to learn the brewing process behind the scenes. This is a great way to learn if you have what it takes to be your own craft brewer! This brewery celebrates the hard work and wisdom of local farmers, is fully invested in the community, and seeks to contribute to the growth and spirit of London’s Old East Village.

They’ve got live music, pinball, and a big patio, plus they offer 100% organic beer options! Just down the street from Anderson Craft Ales and Powerhouse Brewing, a great addition to your next brewery tour or pub crawl!

London Ontario, AKA, Forest City, began as a tobogganing hub in the 1800’s which quickly became a city wide phenomenon. Toboggan Brewing Co. is an ode to the rich history of London, designed to be a space for the community to come together to enjoy locally made craft beers and great food.

Located right in the middle of Central London, this craft brewery makes an impressive roster of great beer for those visiting downtown London. They focus on small batch, quality offerings, with a small selection available year round. Grab your friends and have a pint at this uniquely decorated brew house next time you’re in the area!

What happens when two Biologists and an Engineer walk into a bar? Well, a lovable Forked River Brewing Company is born! This brewery keeps things upbeat and lively, hosting live music, trivia night, weekly “hoppy hour” and other great events for the neighbourhood to enjoy!

They’ve partnered with Kyle’s Fried Chicken to serve mouth watering wings and other BBQ specialties that pair amazingly with a pint of Forked River beer.

Customer Review: Love this brewery. Always trying new things! Love walking in and asking about what’s new. Interstellar is always good, and a regular go-to for me. Staff always courteous, and gives you the feeling they love being there. Always helpful, and a real sense of community!

Powerhouse Brewing Company

Located in Old East Village, Powerhouse Brewing Co. offers Canadian brews made with Canadian equipment, brewed by Canadian boys. A truly Canadian brewery. They bring “chill vibes and cool brews” to this historic neighbourhood and are proud to carry on the legacy of London-strong manufacturing roots.

Their brew house and tasting room is actually a newly revitalized Kellogg’s factory nestled amongst many other factories on Kellogg Lane. They’re proud to carry on the legacy of the manufacturing roots, infused with a little power-up!

Customer Review: It may not be obvious looking at its location on a map, but it’s a really cool place to hang out. There’s a huge patio, and a bit of sitting room inside as well. Being a brewery, there’s always fresh and good beer available at the bar as well as the retail shop. They don’t have a kitchen, but very often there are food trucks.

One of the loveliest ways to ease yourself fully out of the post-winter blahs and into springtime is to quit being a wallflower and instead surround yourself with living, blooming plants.

From botanical gardens to plant sales and garden tours, it’s time to make like the Scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz” and while away the hours, conferring with flowers.

TOTALLY BOTANICAL

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay is open for the season, daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Maine Days are May 31 to June 2, when anyone with a Maine driver’s license or state ID gets in for free. Ditto for dads/father figures on Father’s Day (June 16). Advance registration is required. With more than 300 acres of gardens and natural spaces, including a waterfall, there will be plenty to see, smell and bask in the scenery.

Here are more things to do in Boothbay

Viles Arboretum is a botanical garden in Augusta with 6 miles of trails and more than 20 botanical collections. It’s open daily from sunrise to sunset, and admission is free. There are 224 acres with all sorts of flora and fauna to discover. Leashed dogs are welcome, and the visitor center is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Viles Arboretum offers medicinal plant walks, and although the May 18 session is full, you can still register for the June 15 and Sept. 14 events, lead by herbalist, homeopath and flower essence practitioner Debra Bluth. Tickets are $25. Advertisement

The Mount Desert Land & Garden Preserve has four areas to explore on its property in Northeast Harbor: the Asticou Azelea Garden (dawn to dusk daily), the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden (noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday from July 9 to Sept. 8, reservations required), Thuya Garden (dawn to dusk daily, June 15 to Oct. 14) and Little Long Pond Natural Lands (hiking trails and carriage roads open dawn to dusk daily). On June 26, at the Wildflowers of Little Long Pond event, participants can wander around the garden’s fields and forest, spotting wildflowers along the way while practicing how to identify them.

2nd Annual Tree Hugging 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Deering Oaks Park, Portland. portlandmaine.gov The tree hugging is a family-friendly community gathering to celebrate Portland’s many trees. Park ranger Liz Collado will lead a sensory awakening and forest bathing session. Along with tree hugging, there will be a storytime, and you can touch a forestry truck and meet naturalist Noah Querido and Portland city arborist Mark Reiland. Just down the road, you’ll find Fessenden Park, on the corner of Brighton and Deering Avenues. The tulips have arrived, and it’s worth a visit to see them.

McLaughlin Garden Lilac Festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 24. McLaughlin Garden and Homestead, 97 Main St., South Paris, $5. mclaughlingardens.org You’ll find more than 125 varieties of lilacs at the McLaughlin Garden Lilac Festival. Explore on your own or take a guided tour led by a horticulturist. There will also be family-friendly activities, and you can shop for native and unusual plants.

4th annual Woodfords Community Garden Tour 1-4 p.m. June 8. Woodfords Corner Community in Back Cove, Deering Highlands, Oakdale and Deering Center, $20 suggested donation. woodfordscorner.org Presented by Friends of Woodfords Corner, this self-guided tour features at least 10 gardens. As you make your way down the list, you’ll find yourself pleasantly surprised by all of the hidden havens bursting with flowers, plants and impressive yardscaping elements.

Peony Society of Maine 23rd annual Garden Tour 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 8 and 15. Both tours start at 1348 Ohio St., Bangor, $5 donation. peonysocietyofmaine.net You’ll visit multiple gardens in Bangor, Winterport, Ripley and St. Albans, and your senses will be filled with countless peonies. A peony plant will be raffled off at the end of each tour. Advertisement

Hidden Gardens of Historic Bath 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22. Sagadahoc Preservation Inc., 880 Washington St., Bath, $40. sagadahocpreservation.org The Hidden Gardens of Historic Bath house and garden tour features several homes in North Bath. Every stop on the tour will be a treat for your senses and may motivate you to make some of your own magic when you get back home.

Garden Conservancy Open Garden Days 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 29. Beckett Castle Rose Garden, Singles Road, Cape Elizabeth, $10. gardenconservancy.org You’ll see plenty of roses as well as ocean views at Beckett Castle, which sits right on the water, with views of five lighthouses. The castle was built in 1871, and its rose garden features more than 70 varieties of heirloom roses. A 50-foot stone tower doubles as the rose arbor entrance to the castle.

PICK A PLANT SALE

Tate House Museum’s Annual Plant and Herb Sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18. Tate House Museum, 1267 Westbrook St., Portland, 207-774-6177.  tatehouse.org The wide selection includes perennials divided from the museum’s 18th century reproduction garden. Visitors can also make their own “seed bombs” and get a sneak peak at a new installation by artist Ashley Page from 10 a.m. to noon.

Taking Root Plant Sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1, Tom Settlemire Community Garden, Maurice Drive, Brunswick, 207-729-7694.  btlt.org This annual sale is organized by the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust. Proceeds benefit the Common Good Garden, which provides food and gardening education for the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program. Master gardeners will be on hand to help shoppers choose their best options.

Scarborough Land Trust Native Plant Sale and Spring Festival 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1, Broadturn Farm, 388 Broadturn Road, Scarborough, 207-289-1199.  scarboroughlandtrust.org Visitors will find native plants, food vendors, local artisans, guided nature walks and activities for kids.
