Genting Dream Cruise All-Inclusive Restaurants (Free of Charge) • The Lido & Dream Dining Rooms

Genting dream all-inclusive restaurants (free of charge).

Up to 6 meals a day are included when cruising on board Resorts World Cruises’ Genting Dream. Here are the dining options you will have for almost 24 hours without any additional charge while cruising, whether on the move on high seas or even when docked at destinations.

The Lido • Halal, Vegetarian, Jain International Buffet

dream cruise vegetarian food

The Lido on Deck 16 is Genting Dream’s main buffet restaurant, and certified Halal by OIC (Organisation of Islamic Corporation) and SMIIC (Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A sign is displayed in the queue to enter The Lido to not bring any alcoholic beverages into the Halal area.

dream cruise vegetarian food

As compared with the World Dream with only 1 buffet line by the entrance, the whole port (left) side of The Lido is now a Halal line on the Genting Dream, but divided into local and international cuisines.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A wide variety of food for everyone is available in The Lido now that the whole port-side buffet line is Halal-certified, so all passengers have more food options without the worry of mixing cutlery.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Drinks are also available for self-service.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Inclusive cold drinks revolve around syrup juices.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Coffee and milk are available from large dispensers, which is especially useful now that the ship operates at full capacity with no more social gathering restrictions.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Cutlery is now available from self-service stations.

dream cruise vegetarian food

There is still a bar in The Lido, but this is to be consumed on the aft and starboard sides of The Lido.

dream cruise vegetarian food

The starboard (right) side of The Lido serves up Indian Vegetarian and Jain food, certified by Global Vegetarian Certification Services (GVCS).

dream cruise vegetarian food

With a crowd of more than 3000 on board, The Lido does get busy but it can still cope well for finding a table reasonably fast with the space available. Food are also available on multiple lines so the crowd is spread out around The Lido.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A small sample of the food offered at The Lido. I didn’t take much as this was a late afternoon “lunch” and dinner was going to happen for me soon.

dream cruise vegetarian food

If heading down for an early shore excursion, The Lido is also open for an early morning start to your day for a quick grab-and-go plated breakfast.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A wide variety of local and international breakfast options are available on the various buffet lines at The Lido.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A butter machine is also installed now to plop roundels of butter on to your plate.

dream cruise vegetarian food

My small selection of a quick breakfast from The Lido as I was heading off for a shore excursion to Phuket .

The Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner

dream cruise vegetarian food

During gaps in main meal times (morning tea, afternoon tea, and supper), The Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner on Deck 16 serves up light bites for those still hungry.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Snack food is available during afternoon tea, but some breakfast options are available for morning tea for those who woke up late and local favourites such as porridge are available during supper as well.

Dream Dining Room Lower • Western Semi-Buffet Restaurant

dream cruise vegetarian food

Dream Dining Room Lower is an inclusive Western restaurant which operates in a semi=buffet style.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Orders are taken at the table for main courses, but everything else is found on buffet lines.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Breads, salads, and soups are now self-service from the Dream Dining Room Lower buffet line.

dream cruise vegetarian food

I was surprised that my steak doneness was requested by the waiter at Dream Dining Room Lower as I had expected that the food at inclusive restaurants would be done in 1 style.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Dessert was also done buffet-style at the buffet line.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A mix of cakes and local hot desserts are available.

dream cruise vegetarian food

If dining during the safety demonstration, the waiters double up to point out the safety features and procedures on board the Genting Dream.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Breakfast is a full buffet at Dream Dining Room Lower with an international menu, similar to The Lido.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A variety of local and international cuisines are available at Dream Dining Room Lower. Do note that the buffet line at Dream Dining Room Lower is not Halal and includes pork.

dream cruise vegetarian food

A small selection of western breakfast for me this early morning.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Omelettes and sunny side up eggs can be ordered through the waiters.

dream cruise vegetarian food

For the last dinner of the cruise, I went back to Dream Dining Room Lower as well, since I prefer Western food.

dream cruise vegetarian food

I had a beef tenderloin which was very tender, nicely pink, and can be cut easily with a regular knife.

dream cruise vegetarian food

The vegetarian option of Spinach Lasagna was also good with generous fillings and sauce.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Dessert was also local hot dessert and cakes from the buffet line.

Dream Dining Room Upper • Chinese Set Menu Restaurant

dream cruise vegetarian food

Dream Dining Room Upper is Genting Dream’s inclusive Chinese restaurant served in set menus.

dream cruise vegetarian food

I had only tried Dream Dining Room Upper once on this cruise for a sit-down breakfast.

dream cruise vegetarian food

For a solo cruiser, meals were portioned out nicely for 1 person’s share, but I thought it was still a bit generous for an early start to the day.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Chinese dim sum and carbs were served for breakfast with noodles, congee, glutinous rice, dumplings, and the popular golden egg yolk bao which every other table seems to be ordering extra servings of.

BONUS: Blue Lagoon • Chinese Set Menu Restaurant (Peak)

dream cruise vegetarian food

Blue Lagoon is a specialty restaurant serving up a la carte local fare. However, during peak periods , Blue Lagoon doubles up as an inclusive restaurant serving up a Chinese Set Menu which will be the same as Dream Dining Room Upper. Check your RW Daily for details on when Blue Lagoon will operate as an inclusive restaurant.

With a variety of cuisines and meal times catered by Genting Dream, it’s hard to go hungry when on board the ship. I personally like the western mains served up by Dream Dining Room Lower, but many others prefer the Chinese food at Dream Dining Room Upper. Perhaps it’s for everyone to find out their favourites with the many meal times and menus offered throughout the cruise.

This cruise was kindly sponsored by Resorts World Cruises.

The Digital Travellers

India’s leading b2b travel trade digital media, a look at genting dream’s food offerings onboard.

  • Product Reviews

Being one of the most popular cruises in Asia, Resorts World Cruises was officially launched in June 2022 with the theme ‘A Resort Cruising At Sea’. Genting Dream, the flagship cruise of Resorts World Cruises has over 35 restaurants and bars spread across 18 decks of the ship. For Indian travellers, it’s a perfect cruise offering a mix of Indian cuisine with international flavours and options.

Genting Dream is not the first cruise ship to serve halal food, but it’s the first with an internationally halal-certified kitchen with an OIC/SMIIC standard halal-friendly certificate. This is based on OIC (Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) and SMIIC (The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries) standards. The cruise also holds a vegetarian certification by Global Vegetarian Certification Services. The Lido which is the free-buffet restaurant on the ship provides an extensive range of international cuisines including vegetarian and Jain food options. For instance, The Dream Dining Room(upper) is dedicated to serving Chinese set meals, whereas the Dream Dining (lower) serves semi-buffet western meals.

We even went behind the scenes and discovered that there are dedicated timings and lifts to deliver the food. From the way the food is prepared and delivered, to the way utensils are washed after — everything is segregated so there is no chance of cross-contamination at all. So, Jain travellers can cruise and eat with peace of mind onboard Genting Dream.

If you are not convinced, we take you on a virtual tour of this ship by Chef Reinhard Mammes, Executive Chef, Genting Dream.

Food onboard a cruise ship

Cruise guests can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for free on a cruise. This includes access to all complimentary food venues onboard. Main dining restaurants feature versatile menus that cater to a variety of tastes and dietary preferences, which comes included in your cruise fare.

Genting Dream also has exclusive dining venues, only accessible to passengers in Dream Palace suites. Food can also be delivered to your cabin 24/7 if you are staying at a Palace suite. For balcony and interior cabins, it comes at an additional cost.

You can bring your own food onboard — including snack food you like to have on hand and items you pick up in port. You can’t bring raw meat onboard, but pretty much anything else is fair game. However, there’s so much food onboard that, unless you’re very picky or have a dietary restriction, there’s not much need to bring your own food. Moreover, Genting Dream restaurants pretty much always have vegetarian options; low-salt, low-carb, gluten-free and vegan food is either available and noted or can be prepared with advance notice.

A great evening and starter of our Genting Dream cruise trip to Phuket with our personal butler (now friend) Ronald and Chishuan

The first evening beckoned us to an outdoor hotpot, where ocean views melded with the sea breeze, reminiscing the Lunar New Year vibes. Amidst the stars, little brother Ken and I savoured every bite of the vegetarian mock meat, the richness of various mushrooms and the freshness of seasonal vegetables, all immersed in a flavoursome mushroom soup base. And yes, for those spicy lovers – a tip, bringing your own tom yam paste can elevate the experience!

Our night concluded with mesmerizing live performances at the Zodiac Theatre – a perfect end to the beginning of our cruise journey.

And if you’re anything like Ken and I, a walk around the mesmerizing cruise after supper adds just the right touch of magic to the dining experience.

Singapore Vegetarian Teppanyaki Dream Cruise

My First Ever Vegetarian Teppanyaki, Thank You Genting Dream cruise! haha

The Japanese & Korean cuisine restaurant, Umi Uma, introduced me to my first-ever Vegetarian Teppanyaki. The chef, a maestro of flavours and stunts, made the dining experience not just a meal, but a spectacle. Every bite of fried rice, grilled vegetables, and that divine green tea macha ice cream was a melody of tastes.

Dream Cruise Butler

Our super attentive and hospitable butler on Genting Dream cruise! The best experience on the cruise!

We supposed to have BBQ buffet, but we ended up going for Western cuisine instead! If you are a Palace guest, the staff at Dream Dining Room Upper caters to every vegetarian whim with delights ranging from pasta and pizza to bespoke Chinese fried noodles.

Dream Cruise Vegetarian BBQ Buffet

There are BBQ buffet spread, but we are not very interested in grilling vegetables and mushrooms, so we opt for western food!

Day 3: Brunch – A Thai Escapade at Phuket Town Hesan Vegetarian (10am to 10pm)

Phuket Thailand Vegetarian

Morning tendering from Phuket’s deep sea port to shore, and had 5 hours of exploration in Phuket Town! Searching for Phuket Vegetarian!

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Phuket Thailand Hesan Vegetarian

We stumbled upon a hidden gem – a local Thai vegetarian restaurant that promised an explosion of flavors!

Dream Cruise Phuket Tendering

The early Phuket sun greeted us warmly. Our taste buds found a homely retreat at Phuket Town Hesan Vegetarian. Although time was a luxury, thanks to the deep-sea port, every bite of the local Thai vegetarian delights was worth the rush.

Hesan Vegetarian Phuket

A quick shopping spree at the pier ot in Phuket town, later we were back, sailing the high seas.

Dream Cruise Phuket Tendering

A word of advice for those looking to explore Phuket: it’s wise to hire your own trusted driver. Be wary of the drivers at the pier; unfortunately, not all have honest intentions, and some might try to scam you. I’d steer clear of Uber or other taxi apps too. I had a frustrating experience where the driver accepted my request, only to quote a higher price than what was on the app or tried to upsell a full-day tour. What’s more annoying? They wouldn’t cancel the ride!

Our trusted Thai driver

To avoid such hassles, I recommend my personal driver. He’s incredibly honest and reliable. You can reach him at +66924658444 via WhatsApp or Line. I’m not too sure of his name, but he has integrity and good reliable services.

Dream Cruise Tendering

A special moment: As we returned from Phuket, rain began to fall during tendering. We were deeply touched to see the crew, umbrellas in hand, ready to welcome us back with such warmth and care.

Day 3: Lunch – A Taste of Home at Blue Lagoon (11.30am to 2pm)

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Burger

Genting Dream cruise Vegetarian Burger at Blue Lagoon Restaurant

Onboard, the Singapore Style Menu at Blue Lagoon was a comforting touch of home. The vegetarian burger paired with the delicious onboard fries and drinks. My friend Chishuan decided to go for fried kuaytiao (Singapore-style flat noodles) instead. It’s cool to have a nice delicious vegetarian patty in our burger match with mouth-watering sauce.

Dream Cruise Vegetarian KuayTiao

Post-feast, we were gently lured into a food coma, a delightful heaviness that beckoned us towards a restful pause. Our room, a sanctuary of comfort, offered a view that was nothing short of spellbinding. As we settled in, the balcony showcased a symphony of serene views, where the harmonious dance of waves painted scenes of tranquil beauty.

Dream Cruise Palace Suite Balcony

It wasn’t just a nap; it was a journey into a realm of peace, a moment of escape where each wave whispered tales of distant shores. Every breath of the fresh sea breeze infused us with a sense of calm, turning a simple siesta into an intimate dance of relaxation and reflection. In these quiet moments, amidst the allure of nature’s masterpiece, we found a space to just ‘be’.

Dream Cruise Hunk

Ken’s sunset posts from the Palace Suite are magical – my talented younger apprentice is already outshining the master! 🌅✨

Awakening from our nap, an exhilarating surprise awaited – an invitation to a vibrant foam party at the deck’s edge. With mocktails in hand, each sip was a melody harmonizing with the ambient tunes. The fusion of flavors danced on our palates, as enticing as the energy radiating around us. Amidst the foam and laughter, ice creams added a layer of sweetness, painting our experience with strokes of delight.

Dream Cruise Foam Party

As we merged into the dynamic ambiance, nostalgia swept over us, echoing the electrifying parties of the 00s. The atmosphere was alive with rhythmic beats and infectious laughter, where every pulse of the music invigorated our spirits. We were immersed in a world where foam and melodies intertwined, encapsulating us in a cocoon of euphoria and reminiscence. Each moment at the foam party was a sensory dance, an unforgettable chapter of our Genting Dream cruise journey.

Dream Cruise Foam Party

Kudos to my little brother Ken for capturing my favorite shot from behind! Honestly, this angle makes me look more buff than I really am – it’s all a fabulous illusion! 😄

Day 3: Dinner – Elegance at Bistro (5.30pm to 9pm)

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Western Cuisine

It’s a luxurious experience! Enjoying it with my little brother just adds to the fun! 😄✨

Bistro promised Western fine dining and delivered an experience. Each appetizer, the sumptuous spinach salad, the hearty Minestrone soup, and that heavenly Risotto Truffle, was a symphony of taste. Our laughter, Ken’s jokes, and the elegant ambiance of Bistro made it an evening etched in memory.

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Western Cuisine

Ken’s eyes lit up with joy; the prospect of indulging in his beloved vegetarian Western Cuisine on the cruise had him over the moon!

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Western Cuisine

After the luxurious meal, we headed to catch the inter-staff basketball game, but it was a no-go, they were short on referees! 🏀🚫

Dream Cruise Inter Staff Basketball Match

Ken’s excitement for the basketball match turned into disappointment when it got cancelled – his face said it all.

Day 3: Supper – Midnight Indulgence, Round Two (12am to 2am)

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Supper

Im gaining so much weight on this cruise!

Back at The Palace Restaurant, the fried bee hoon with chili was a nostalgic bite into yesterday’s delight. Every bun, cake, and fruit bore witness to our contented sighs under the starry sky.

Day 4: Brunch – A Chinese Reminiscence at Silk Road Restaurant (11.30am to 2pm)

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Chinese Restaurant

At last, we’re indulging in exquisite, fine dining Chinese cuisine that’s as vegetarian as it is delightful!

Silk Road Restaurant was like stepping back into the nostalgic lanes of Macau (our recent trip to Macau). Every dish, from the sweet sour mushroom mock meat to the delightful mango pomelo sago, was an artistry of flavors.

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Chinese Restaurant

Day 4: Snack – A Final Culinary Hug at The Palace Restaurant (3pm to 5pm)

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Snack

Even in the final moments on the Genting Dream cruise, the allure of their delectable vegetarian offerings was irresistible. We found ourselves savoring every last bite at the Palace Restaurant, right up to the last minute!

As we bid goodbye to the dreamy days and starlit nights, a final round of friend bee hoon and the soul-stirring Chinese brewed mushroom soup at The Palace Restaurant was the perfect culinary hug. Tip: The Chinese mushroom soup was SUPERB!

Dream Cruise Vegetarian Snack

The Resorts World Cruises, Genting Dream cruise surprised me with its impeccable touch of vegetarian elegance. Each dish, each flavor bespoke of a culinary mastery that transcends the ordinary. For those on the brink of this journey, the Palace accommodation is not just a stay; it’s an experience of bespoke luxury. A world where butlers like Ronald and Devi transform dining into a personalized culinary journey, and housekeepers like Andi turn rooms into havens of comfort and luxury.

Singapore Dream Cruise Hunk

My journey of Singapore Vegetarian delights, Vegetarian Teppanyaki shows, Vegetarian Hotpot under the starry skies, and the unforgettable Genting Dream cruise Vegetarian experience is an ode to the symphony of flavors, cultures, and unforgettable moments that await every traveler on this majestic cruise.

Eating Plant-Based on the Disney Dream

If you ask someone about their Disney Cruise , I guarantee they will very quickly share anecdote after anecdote about the amazing food they enjoyed while onboard.

Cucumber Garden Roll from the Enchanted Garden on the Disney Dream

Along with entertainment, character greetings, and port adventures, dining is a prevalent experience when sailing with Disney Cruise Line but as someone who eats exclusively plant-based I was a little hesitant about what dining would be like for me on the Disney Dream .

Overall, I will say that Disney truly tries their best to accommodate all dietary needs and happily assists with any questions concerning restrictions or allergens. However, I found that the standard menu offerings at all onboard locations on the Disney Dream were not particularly plentiful for plant-based eaters. This is where the magic and dedication of Disney Cast Members truly shines and where planning and research on the part of the guest goes a long way.

Waterslide on the Disney Dream

Here are 4 quick tips for eating plant-based on the Disney Dream

  • Pre-order your meals . Each night after dinner, our head server would ask what I wanted for breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next day. While the available alternate options are not especially diverse, it does help to have a game plan to ease your dining experience.

Please join me as I outline my dining experiences at the buffet-style eatery Cabanas, each of the three rotational restaurants (Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Palace), Palo, and more while sailing on the Disney Dream!

Disney Dream

Day 1 – Lunch at Cabanas

Dining area at Cabanas on the Disney Dream

Once onboard, our team decided to meet at Cabanas for lunch. I was fortunate enough to travel with my wonderful teammate Meagan who happens to have an allergy to wheat and gluten, which means that I had a buddy to navigate the whole “dietary restriction while dining at sea thing” with.

While our Cruise Specialist had previously made note of our dietary restrictions, Meagan and I found our first dining experience aboard the Dream to be a little confusing. After giving the food stations a cursory look ourselves, we deduced that there really were not options there for either of us. The stations were not clearly labelled with dietary needs in mind, such as with a gluten-free or plant-based symbol as you can often find on signage and menus at Walt Disney World Resorts and at the Parks.

We approached a Cast Member who was admittedly unsure of how to best help us at first, but who then instructed us to write down anything that appealed to us at the buffets and they would see if the items could be made to accommodate us. After giving the server our request forms, we joined the rest of our team outside on the deck. While it did take a bit longer to receive our meals, the same Cast Member delivered multiple options right to the table for us.

pizza on the Disney Dream

I ended up being served a personal-size thin crust pizza with non-dairy cheese, a falafel salad without dressing, and plain scrambled “eggs.” While none of these options were spectacular, the effort put in by the Cast Member to ensure we had something to eat for lunch was so very appreciated.

Day 1 – Dinner at Animator’s Palate

Our first dinner was at Animator’s Palate , an imaginative venue where storyboards come to life right in front of you! After our experience at Cabanas that afternoon, Meagan and I decided to sit together for ease of communication with our serving team for the remainder of the cruise.

bread basket from Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream

For an appetizer, I was served the Arugula Leaves which consisted of marinated white beans, orange segments, and red beets. As the mustard dressing that traditionally comes on the salad is not plant-based, I was given oil and vinegar; this was common for all salads I ate on the ship as none of the standard dressings accommodate those with plant-based dietary restrictions.

salad from Animator’s Palate

The main course was Black Bean Chipotle Cakes served over brown rice and corn kernels, with pico de gallo and a salsa drizzle. Now, I am quite a wimp when it comes to anything remotely spicy and generally skeptical when it comes to black bean dishes as they can be quite dry, but these cakes were mild yet flavorful and the salsa ensured the dish was not too dry. This was probably one of my favorite entrées onboard and I would definitely recommend it.

For dessert, our server brought out a decadent plant-based chocolate cake with strawberry mousse and fresh fruit which was absolutely delicious!

Day 2 – Brunch at Palo

On our second day, David and his wife Cathy treated us to a wonderful brunch at Palo , an exquisite dining experience that gave us the opportunity to dress up and share a very special meal together.

With nothing marked as plant-based or vegan on the menu, I was initially worried whether it would be “worth” taking me along for the meal as Palo is at an additional cost. However, as soon as we were seated our server asked if anyone had dietary restrictions or allergies and readily assisted us throughout the meal.

Quite honestly, I was advised to ignore the standard menu completely and instead let the chef conjure up some amazing plant-based dishes just for me. We started the meal with a garlic and herb infused flatbread, which was light and just perfectly toasted; this option was also gluten-free, so Meagan and I were able to share.

garlic and herb infused flatbread

From there, I was served a delicious antipasto with marinated olives, artichokes, eggplant, and zucchini. This was my first-time eating antipasto and I have to say, I felt quite fancy!

antipasto with marinated olives, artichokes, eggplant, and zucchini

While the chef was unable to accommodate my request for a plant-based Mickey waffle, I was able to enjoy fluffy blueberry pancakes for my next course.

Next up was a savoury plate of penne with tomato sauce. While quite simple, this dish was absolutely delicious and by far the best pasta I had onboard.

Penne pasta on the Disney Dream

Lastly, my dessert (because apparently, brunch on a Disney Cruise comes with dessert, which I am wholeheartedly in support of) was a raspberry sorbet served with a variety of fresh berries.

Day 2 – Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats

I don’t often feel like I’m missing out by eating plant-based but I will admit that I was pretty envious of the unlimited dairy-based soft-serve available for guests to enjoy at Eye Scream Treats. As there are no non-dairy options, I decided to take a peek inside Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats, a dessert shop inspired by the Sugar Rush game in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph .

vegan ice cream on the Disney Dream

At the time of our sailing in late April of this year, there was only one vegan ice cream flavor available, Pineapple Coconut, and there were no plant-based options in the dessert case. I ended up trying the Pineapple Coconut ice cream, but did not enjoy it very much. It was not creamy and tasted rather bland in my opinion. I would not recommend the current plant-based options here, especially since anything purchased at Vanellope’s is at an additional cost. That said, the shop itself can be a great spot for fun photos with King Candy, Vanellope, and her race car!

Day 2 – Dinner at Enchanted Garden

With its light and romantic atmosphere, Enchanted Garden was aesthetically the dining location I was most excited to visit on the Disney Dream. My appetizer here was the Cucumber Garden Roll; yet even with a hint of cilantro, this dish was not particularly flavorful. That said, it was a nice change from a typical salad and the presentation was beautiful.

After speaking with our main server the previous night, I was served a vegetable stir-fry over noodles, which was quite enjoyable.

Stir fry over noodles

Dessert at Enchanted Garden was another decadent chocolate confection, this time paired with a plant-based whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and drizzled in chocolate sauce. I found this quite rich, but super yummy as well!

Day 3 – Breakfast at Enchanted Garden

Before heading out to join our teammates on Disney’s private Bahamian island Castaway Cay, Meagan and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast back at Enchanted Garden. We placed our breakfast order with our head server the night beforehand and then just needed to give the breakfast dining team our stateroom numbers when we arrived.

fruit plate

I had never had an omelette before, plant-based or otherwise, but this one was absolutely delicious and one of my favorite things I ate onboard. I was able to specify the vegetables I wanted (and those I’d like to avoid – ahem, mushrooms) and the Cast Member happily obliged.

Day 3 – Lunch at Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay décor

A buffet-style BBQ lunch is served for guests who visit Castaway Cay at Cookies Too BBQ. I enjoyed a veggie burger, fresh fruit, and potato chips. Our day at Castaway was chocked full of fun and I will admit I forgot to snap a photo of my lunch, so here is one from my teammate Zoe’s meal from an earlier sailing. The vegetarian chili should also be vegan, but I would advise speaking to a Cast Member for the most up-to-date information about ingredients and food preparation.

I did, however, take a photo of this adorable Olaf sipper! I just couldn’t resist and the Ice Palace drink with fresh banana, pineapple chunks, mango puree, and coconut water was delicious! You can pick up one of these sippers with a choice of frozen beverages at Olaf’s Summertime Freeze, which is also on Castaway.

Day 3 – Royal Palace

Our last stop on the rotational dining for the Dream was at Royal Palace , a gorgeous space decorated with nods to our favorite Disney Princesses. For an appetizer, I had pear salad which was very fresh and included arugula, sliced red onions, and a bosc pear.

salad from Royal Palace on the Disney Dream

My main course at Royal Palace was another off-menu item, vegetables over rice. Our head server made sure the chef left out any mushrooms without me saying anything; they had remembered that I was not fond of them from a previous meal and moving forward took it upon themselves to keep that in mind, which I found amazingly thoughtful and wonderful service.

Dessert was a delicious cookie/brownie combo topped with the same raspberry sorbet I was served at Palo. This selection was full of flavor and I would highly recommend it.

Cookie and brownie combo from the Royal Palace

Overall, I will say that the plant-based food on the Disney Dream is enjoyable and there are delicious options available to guests. That said, it is the Cast Members and their commitment to go above and beyond that truly makes the dining experiences comfortable for all diners regardless of their dietary needs and restrictions. Just be sure to communicate with your serving staff and they will do their best to ensure you are taken care of.

Feasting on the High Seas: Resorts World Cruises Dining Delights

dream cruise vegetarian food

Written by Katherine

Genting dream | resorts world cruises | singapore.

Welcome back to part two of the Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream series~! In this second part of the series, I will be covering the dining options that you can find on board the Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream. Similar to what I have done with Dream Cruises, I have chosen a speciality restaurant to try out its food and service. Without further ado, let’s check out what you can eat on board the cruise~! ⁽⁽◝( • ω • )◜⁾⁾

✨ BEFORE YOU GO ✨

In case you have missed out on the previous parts of the series, you might want to check out the following posts as well:

  • My Experience of Staying at the Balcony Room and Our Disastrous Embarkation
  • All the Activities on Board Resorts World Cruises!

Inclusive Dining Options

Speciality restaurants, using the resorts world cruises portal for dining information, nominal fee for a second inclusive meal, is reservation needed for resorts world cruises’ dining, resorts world cruises’ dining package, dream dining room – how does it fare this time, must-haves at the lido, better be early on the last day for breakfast, snacks & supper options, full menu of lobby cafe and blue lagoon, superb service at the silk road, all about the dishes, other things worth mentioning, full menu of silk road, menus from other speciality restaurants, photo gallery, singapore-related posts, resorts world cruises genting dream dining options.

Since we were staying in the Balcony Stateroom, we assumed that the inclusive dining options on the Resorts World Cruises would be similar to Dream Cruises. That means the Dream Dining Room Lower and Upper as well as The Lido are inclusive. While preparing for this blog post, I read through all the RW Daily I gathered from the past few days. And O.M.G., I realised Blue Lagoon and Function 8 also have inclusive dinners! (⊙_⊙) I blame Resorts World Cruises for not putting their RW Daily in our room on the first day! (#`Д´)

So if you are reading my posts, you are safe. And just in case, I have included the inclusive restaurants and opening hours below for your reference, subject to differences and changes.

Besides the inclusive restaurants, there are also a lot of speciality restaurants if you are willing to pay for your meals on board. I have included the speciality restaurants and their opening hours below for your reference, subject to differences and changes.

I would say most of the restaurants are the same as what was on board the Dream Cruises with a few additional choices such as the Bistro and the Lido Outdoor Hot Pot & Grill. We also decided to try Silk Road this time since we have tried a few others on Dream Cruises. I will talk more about this later~! (´• ω •`)

Besides the speciality restaurants, there is also a wide selection of bars and lounges if you want to drink and chill. I have included two bars below for your reference as they included snack options. All other bars and lounges would be mentioned under part three of the series!

Besides all the useful information I have mentioned in the first part of the series , you can also find all the dining information on the Resorts World Cruises portal.

Screenshots taken from the Resorts World Cruises portal on the dining options

I don’t remember this being a thing previously but a nominal amount will be charged for a second meal during the same meal period for the inclusive dining options. This means that if you already had lunch at the Dream Dining Room Lower, you would need to pay a nominal amount to have lunch at let’s say, The Lido, on the same day. Since they scan your key card before dining, you cannot cheat the system. ( ´ ω ` )

Note that this does not apply to speciality restaurants. That means that you can have lunch at Umi Uma and go to The Lido to have lunch again on the same day. We went to The Lido for desserts after our meal at the Silk Road so this is tried and tested. (´ ∀ ` *)

No reservation is required for the inclusive restaurants and everything is based on a first-come-first-served basis. Simply put, you just have to queue for inclusive restaurants. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) Reservations for the speciality restaurants can be made by calling their hotline or you could simply approach the restaurant’s reception during their opening hours.

Another simpler way is to use the portal! You just have to choose the restaurant that you want and scroll all the way down to see the “Make a reservation” tab. From there, you can choose your number of pax as well as your preferred date and time. Nice and easy! You can even use it to locate the restaurant. See, I told you the portal is very useful. ヾ(´ ▽ ` )

Screenshots taken from the Resorts World Cruises portal on how to make a dining reservation using the portal

Anyway, as compared to the Cruise to Nowhere, I think there were fewer passengers reserving the speciality restaurants, especially when we had the option to disembark on the second day. But it is still advisable to make a reservation since you don’t know how popular the restaurants might be. Better safe than sorry~! (*¯︶¯*)

If you are dining at the speciality restaurants on board the Resorts World Cruises, it would be good to consider buying the Pay as You Go – Extra F&B Credits . This promotion is only available until a certain time so make sure to make the purchase before that. Once you know roughly how much you might be spending, just head over to one of the bars or speciality restaurants to make the purchase.

Note that the credits are non-refundable and cannot be used with promotional items. A sticker would be pasted on your key card so that staff would recognise that you are using the F&B credits. And by right, they would also advise you if you happen to order a promotional item.

Key card showing a sticker on it if you purchase a Resorts World Cruises dining package with them

Also, depending on the staff, they would usually let you know the remaining credits you have. We went to Zouk and paid for the drinks using our credits but the staff did not inform hubs of the balance. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to check with reception. We were wondering how tough could it be if the system captures everything. Eventually, we realised the calculation was actually done manually. I guess the restaurants and bars can only calculate for you if you buy something from them. Also, maybe Zouk was too dark for the staff to do any calculations hence no balance was given to us. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

After a terrible experience with the Dream Dining Room on the Dream Cruises , I was reluctant to have breakfast there. But for your sake, I decided to give it a go! (-ω-、) This time, we went with the Chinese set menu at the Dream Dining Room Upper again. The menu just seems more interesting as compared to the International Buffet at the Dream Dining Room Lower. Also, my parents would prefer to have Chinese food so that was the choice we went with. (´• ω •`)

Surprisingly Good Food from the Chinese Set Menu

Anyway, we didn’t have to wait too long until we got a table assigned to us. We waited for a while and all the food from the Chinese set menu was being served. And surprise surprise, the breakfast was actually one of the best meals we had from an inclusive restaurant. LIKE WHAT!? (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

The interior of the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Honestly, everything was good! I was definitely caught by surprise after that lousy meal we had on Dream Cruises. Even my parents gave their approval. ٩(◕‿◕。)۶ The best of the lot was the Deep Fried Golden Silk, which we have no idea what is it made of. The inside tasted like mochi while the outer layer is similar to that of the crab claw you see in buffets or restaurants. It was more sweet than savoury. A really surprisingly nice dish.

The breakfast set that we had at the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

The only ambiguous item was the steamed red bean paste bao. Or what we thought to be the steamed red bean paste bao but turned out to be a kaya bao? Haha! (◎ ◎)ゞ Another thing to highlight was the service. I think the staff was overwhelmed hence they held off the queue. We asked for chilli sauce twice and it did not appear even at the end of the meal. ┐(‘~`;)┌

The steamed red bean paste bao that looks more like kaya bao at the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Be Early to Avoid Disappointment!

We went to the Dream Dining Room Upper on the second day and there was a long queue when we arrived at around 8.30 AM or so. After queuing for a while, a staff came out to block off the queue behind us, probably to manage the crowd. She told the remaining guests to come back at 9.15 AM, which is 15 minutes before the closing time. (・・;)ゞ I think a lot of them would just go to The Lido for breakfast instead. But if you are coming here for breakfast, better come earlier!

The Lido, International Buffet by the Sea

Since what Dream Cruises offered was so similar to Resorts World Cruises, I thought the food quality would be similar. Let’s just say the variety of food options was still there but there were more hits and misses during the few meals we had at The Lido. (´-ω-`)

As with Dream Cruises, Halal and Indian Vegetarian options are available in the buffet. There honestly wasn’t much to highlight. The speciality item on the first night was roasted beef and the smaller pieces tasted better than the chunky ones. A lot of people were queuing for them since there was only a section for the speciality item.

People queuing up for the roast beef at The Lido on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

I highly recommend having the cakes and fruits while at The Lido. We tried all their cakes and about 95% of them were really good. Even the kuehs at the Halal section were quite nice as well. The fruits were also generally quite sweet and tasty. (b ᵔ▽ᵔ)b Interestingly, there was also an ice cream machine! Hubs made a really nicely shaped one for me though I ended up not finishing it because it tasted pretty average. Haha! (*/ω\)

Some of the cakes and desserts we had at The Lido on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

We had breakfast at The Lido on the last day. Since we would be arriving in Singapore at 10 AM, we know that the majority of the guests would be having breakfast at The Lido around the same time. So we decided to wake up earlier to have breakfast and that was probably the best decision we have ever made. We didn’t have to queue too long before getting a table at around 7.30 AM and there was already quite a crowd inside the dining area. By the time we were done, there was a super mega-long queue outside. So yes, if you don’t want to wait, wake up earlier~! (´• ω •`)

The long queue outside The Lido on the last day for breakfast on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Anyway, based on the signage on every table, dining is limited to one hour. But we have never been chased out by them before so probably this will only be in effect during super crowded hours, such as the last day’s breakfast hour. ( ´ ω ` )

I didn’t go for either as we were too full from our lunch to have snacks. We checked out supper on the first night and it was way too crowded. So we skipped that and moved on. Haha! I am guessing it should probably be the usual fries, nuggets and what-nots. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Lobby Cafe and Blue Lagoon – Light Snacks & Supper

Previously on Dream Cruises, we tried the Singapore Laksa from the Lobby Cafe and it was really delicious. This time, we went for something light from their All-Time Favourites menu, kaya toast. To be honest, it was not too bad but nothing beats the ones at Yakun. So don’t put your hopes too high! (´ ∀ ` *)

The Kaya Toast from the All-Time Favourites at the Lobby Cafe on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Besides the Lobby Cafe, we also managed to have supper at the Blue Lagoon. Our in-room dining on Dream Cruises was actually from Blue Lagoon and the food portion was big and tasted quite good as well. So this time, we decided to try eating at the restaurant. We were still not hungry yet but I pulled my parents along to eat after leaving the Zouk Night Club. \(★ω★)/

We ordered pork congee, Singapore Hokkien mee as well as fried keow teow. And everything was ON POINT. O.M.G. We have been missing out on some delicious food! Blue Lagoon’s food portion was HUGE and the food was super delicious. I especially love the fried keow teow for the wok hei. I swear if there weren’t four of us, we probably couldn’t finish the food. (*/ω\)

Silk Road – Dining Highlight of Our Resorts World Cruises Trip

Dining at the Silk Road was the highlight of our trip. Since my parents are used to having Chinese cuisine, we decided to have dinner on our last night at Silk Road. And I have to say, it was definitely a very worthy meal. (´ ω `♡)

The decorations of Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Since we dined at Umi Uma and Hot Pot on Dream Cruises previously, we thought that the food at Silk Road would be kind of overpriced. But we were wrong. The food at Silk Road was quite affordable for the quality and quantity of food served. The service we received was also top-notch and our staff attending to our table was also really attentive and friendly. As mentioned earlier, we cannot use the F&B credits on promotional items. After noting the sticker on hubs’ key card, she reminded us of this and suggested alternatives for our order. Too bad I didn’t get her name as her service was so amazing. She even offered to take a group photo for us when I was taking a photo of my parents. (´• ω •`) ♡

A photo of hubby and I with my parents and the interior of Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Anyway, we ordered the Two Courses Peking Duck (Half), two bowls of Hot and Sour Seafood Soup, Fried French Beans and Claypot Braised Pork Belly. Everything tasted sooooooooooooooooooooo good except for the duck meat, which was a bit tough as we chose to stir fry it as the second course from the Peking Duck. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Peking Duck skin and wrap. I don’t remember how much it cost to have this item but it only cost us 38 SGD! Oh boy, I could have more. (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

The Peking Duck dish that we had at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Another of our favourites was the claypot braised pork belly. The quantity was a lot and it has a slight hint of spiciness to it. The overall umami was ON POINT. As I said, everything that we ordered was on point and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. The cost of soup on the menu is per bowl so order based on the number of bowls you need. We ordered two bowls of soup for sharing since we had a lot of food. So everything adds up to quite a nice quantity for us. Overall, we paid 108 SGD for everything, excluding the 18% service charge. (´• ω •`)ノ

Other dishes we had at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

The rice, tea, as well as peanuts (appetisers), were free. We only had two bowls of rice since we did not want to overeat. Haha! But it was nice to know that these items come free with our meal so we did not have to incur additional costs. Unless you want to have the special tea from their menu, drink to your heart’s content! (*♡∀♡)

There was also a huge screen and stage in front of us and they were showing some China programs before they started to show videos from Li Ziqi . That was nice and a good way for us to enjoy our meal while watching her cook. My parents definitely enjoyed it a lot. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

The big screen at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

I captured the full menu of Silk Road but please pardon my phone’s shadow. The lighting in there wasn’t the best. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image. ♡( ◡‿◡ )

Besides the menu from Silk Road, I also managed to capture the menu from Umi Uma, Bistro and Red Lion for your reference. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image.(*^^*)♡

I have compared the price of Umi Uma from this trip to the one we had at Dream Cruises. The price is the same except for the 18% service charge. So you could probably still refer to my old blog post for restaurants I did not feature here. I did not see the prices for The Lido’s Hot Pot & Grill and Gelateria was always NOT OPENED. I also forgot to take a photo of the menu at the Crystal Life Cuisine so you are on your own for these places! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Vegan Dinner Options at Remy on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Thanks to our friend Mackenzie Black we’ve got a very special Disney Cruise Line post for you today. You know, the one where we show you the multi course vegan options at Remy on the Disney Dream!

Remy, named after the lead character in Disney’s Ratatouille , is touted as the most lavish supplemental dining experience on both the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy.

As a supplemental dining experience there is an up charge of $125 per person (plus tax and gratuity) to dine here. A strict dress code is enforced and reservations are required.

Vegan Dinner Options at Remy on the Disney Dream Cruise Ship

A French-inspired menu of seasonal ingredients ensures dining at Remy is always an experience to remember.

Dinner selections are specially crafted by Chef Scott Hunnel, from the award-winning Victoria & Albert’s at Walt Disney World Resort and advising Chef Arnaud Lallement—a 3-Michelin-starred chef who helms the celebrated l’Assiette Champenoise restaurant just outside Reims, France.

Once dinner is booked and you are on board the ship, you are invited to meet with a sommelier in Remy’s wine room to preselect your wines for the evening. Please note, wine pairings are an extra charge.

Remy Vegan Dinner Service

Dinner begins with a complimentary “Collette,” a chilled Champagne cocktail prepared at your table.

Because the menu at Remy changes with the seasons it’s likely that some of the courses you are served might vary from the dishes in this post. These offerings are from a January 2020 sailing.

The first offering of the night was an amuse bouche of Tomato Soup Bites .

Next to grace the table was a Ratatouille . We are at Remy so this is an obvious choice.

Next, an Asparagus appetizer with a delicate vinaigrette and edible flowers.

The asparagus appetizer is followed up with a Potato Gnocchi topped with a black sesame crunch and micro greens.

This is followed by a Tofu Steak in a red pepper coulis over leeks.

The final savory course is a gorgeous Vegetable Platter which looks like something that would be served at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts !

But we aren’t finished yet! Who’s ready for sweets?

This is the Dessert course. It’s a cinnamon sugar phyllo dough layered with a peanut and apple compote along with dried apples and apple foam.

And finally Citrus Fruit Leather dusted in sanding sugar.

The only course that can not be modified vegan is the cheese trolly course that is normally served between dinner and dessert.

Remy Atmosphere

Dining at Remy is like being transported to an authentic fine-dining restaurant in the City of Lights. Reminiscent of the well-appointed dining rooms of Paris, the restaurant is softly lit and designed in a timeless art nouveau style featuring soft greens, rich reds and gold tones. Graceful lines adorn the chairs, glass carvings and wall etchings, as sweeping floral and leaf designs embellish the carpet and lighting.

Adding to the sophisticated ambience, tables are set with Frette linens, Riedel glassware, Christofle silverware and china created exclusively for the restaurant. For an added touch of Disney magic, Remy—the character from the hit Disney·Pixar film Ratatouille —appears in artful ways throughout the restaurant’s design.

Once ridiculed by serious foodies for all-you-can-eat buffets and ritualistic plumping up of passengers, cruise lines have come a long way in catering to all kinds of palates and dietary lifestyles. While celebrity chef-helmed eateries, health-conscious "spa cuisine," and "shore-to-ship" ingredient sourcing have marked some of the most notable at-sea culinary trends of late, a more recent development has seen the introduction of cruise line menus dedicated specifically to vegetarians and vegans. So move over carnivores, and salad-bar grazing days be gone: Here are the five very best cruise lines for vegetarians and vegans.

Oceania Cruises

Upscale, wellness-minded Oceania bills itself as serving "the finest cuisine at sea"—little wonder, given that lauded French chef Jacques Pépin serves as the line's Executive Culinary Director—and the company wants that title validated by more than just the onboard meat-eaters. Accordingly, Oceania launched a new vegan menu offering more than 250 dishes this spring in its main dining rooms aboard all six of its ships: Regatta, Insignia, Nautica, Marina, Riviera, and Sirena , in addition to what it touts as the only cold-pressed raw juice and vegan smoothie bar at sea on the Marina and Riviera . Ample vegetarian options are also incorporated into the ships' various dining venue menus, while separate dedicated menus are available for gluten-free and kosher diners in the main dining room, too.

SeaDream Yacht Club

SeaDream rolled out an industry-first "raw food" vegan menu aboard its twin upscale mega-yachts back in 2012. Focused on raw or "living" foods, with no ingredient heated above 118 degrees Fahrenheit, the line gives this unique wellness culinary philosophy the gourmet treatment. Developed in partnership with the Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida, the raw food entrées, salads, specialty juices (watercress Tang, anyone?), and even decadent desserts (like a cashew lemon cheesecake , made with almond milk and coconut butter) are worth looking out for, even if you're not vegan. While the raw food menu is equally well-suited to vegetarians, the ships' eateries call out additional vegetarian and gluten-free selections on their daily menus, too.

Costa Cruises

It's no surprise that an Italian cruise company would be so preoccupied with ensuring all of its guests get to mangia to their stomach's content. Indeed, Costa's fleet caters to all sorts of culinary tastes, with dedicated menus available for vegan, gluten-free, and diabetic diets , and changing daily vegetarian options called out on menus across the ships' various onboard eateries. The line's vegan and revamped vegetarian menus launched in 2015, with an emphasis on (often reinterpreted) Mediterranean dishes, as designed by Michelin-starred chef Bruno Barbieri, with options like spinach flan with confit cherry tomatoes, herb-flavored salsa verde, and thinly sliced sesame bread. New this year, vegetarians can tuck into course after course on a Barbieri-designed 12-course menu in the main dining room, complete with vegetarian-friendly antipasti, pasta dishes, mains, and desserts.

Silversea goes beyond the more commonplace vegetarian fare to cater to pretty much every palate on deck.

Holland America Line

Holland America scores high points with special-diet cruisers for its alternative vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free menu in the main dining room, highlighting nearly 30 dishes that span appetizers, salads, soups, and entrées, with options like an asparagus, carrot, and zucchini tart, baked in a cheese custard and flaky pastry shell, served with a three grain pilaf of lentil, barley and wild rice.

In addition, all standard menus across the line's various dining venues, including the buffet, rotate out featured vegetarian dishes on a daily basis. What's more, the line plays host to several special Vegan Vacation at Sea (hosted by Vegan Cruise Planners) sailings in 2017. Themed especially for vegans, they visit New England and Canada over the July 4th holiday, embarking from Montreal on the ms Veendam (leaves July 1st), and the Mexican Riviera from San Diego this fall on the ms Oosterdam (embarks October 7th).

Silversea Cruises

Luxe Silversea goes beyond the more commonplace vegetarian fare to cater to pretty much every palate on deck. With ample offerings for vegan, kosher, and gluten-free diets, the line even accommodates Ayurvedic and raw food cooking preferences. Vegetarian and gluten-free items are called out on the main dining room menus , though customized daily menus outlining multiple choices for any type of dietary preference can be prepared and distributed upon request. Guests with special dietary requests simply need to provide the line with advance notice (preferably 60 days out) and are then encouraged to meet with the ship's executive chef upon boarding to ensure their perfectly customized culinary experience at sea .

Dream Cruises' World Dream ship receives Halal and Vegetarian food certifications

CruiseMapper logo

The premium Asian brand Dream Cruises (GHK-owned) announced that its World Dream ship had received official OIC SMIIC Standards Halal certification from the UNWHD-United World Halal Development and Vegetarian certification from the GVCS-Global Vegetarian Certification Services, the first cruise ship in the Asia Pacific to bear both marks of distinction.

Muslim passengers will be able to enjoy peace of mind when sailing onboard World Dream’s 2- and 3-night “Merry Super Seacation” high seas voyages departing out of Singapore for the ultimate “stay-cation” adventure.

During the holiday season, vacationers can also enjoy Singapore’s live fireworks with laser show celebration for Christmas and New Year 2020 .

The 2012-established United World Halal Development focuses on the overall development of the halal industry and markets.  Global Vegetarian Certification Services is an independent body evaluating and confirming the quality and safety of components complying with international vegetarian standards, policies, and procedures.

According to Mr. Michael Goh, President, Dream Cruises, as an Asian homegrown brand, it gave them "great pleasure to provide a holistic Halal-friendly cruise experience" for their guests as part of Dream Cruises’ offerings to cater to the Asian population.

"Following on previous certifications for Genting Dream in Singapore and World Dream in Hong Kong, this new certification encompasses not only cuisine but the overall elevated Halal lifestyle onboard our ship. “Not only have our award-winning Dream Cruises chefs created a wide array of tempting Halal dishes, they will be available upon request in our selected F&B restaurants as well as through Room Service for extra convenience.”

The Lido, one of the most popular restaurants onboard World Dream serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a Snack Corner, now boasts a dedicated Halal Corner for Muslim passengers. In addition to The Lido, F&B restaurants onboard, along with Room Service, offer Halal options in their menus.

Complementing the rich selection of Halal cuisine offered, the World Dream ship will further cater to Muslim passengers with various lifestyle offerings.

How to Cruise as a Vegetarian

By Carnival Cruise Line

As a globetrotting vegetarian preparing to visit exotic destinations such as Mexico and the Caribbean , you might expect your dining options to be somewhat limited. That’s never the case, however, when your vacation is on a Carnival cruise. Vegetarians happily discover many delicious meat-free options on the menus of almost all onboard dining outlets — for breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks as well. Dining on new, delicious, chef-crafted dishes at every meal is one of the best parts of any vacation, one in which passengers with special dietary needs can indulge too. So along with no cooking and no dishes, you can add plenty of vegetarian choices to the long list of the joys of cruising.

When it comes to vegetarian cruise food, breakfast time promises a wide world of choices. Eggs are prepared every which way: Have a custom veggie omelet or huevos rancheros, a signature offering of Seaday Brunch . You can also enjoy fluffy stacks of pancakes smothered with blueberry compote. Awaken your inner child with a plate of cereal French toast, or fuel the day’s adventures with oatmeal and fresh fruit from the Dining Room’s breakfast spread. Another hearty and flavor-packed option is a veggie breakfast burrito from BlueIguana Cantina . Add all the salsas and hot sauces you desire.

Many of Carnival’s onboard restaurants feature “build-your-own” stations where you can customize meals such as noodle bowls, salads and pasta dishes, all of which are ideal for creating vegetarian lunches. One day you could hit the Lido Restaurant’s Mongolian Wok station and watch as an expert chef sizzles together your choice of noodles, vegetables and sauce. The next day you might head for the pasta bar at Pasta Bella and concoct a custom combination of pasta, sauce and toppings.

Seeking something a little lighter as you get ready to hit the beaches of The Bahamas ? Go for a healthy version of all-you-can eat at Fresh Creations , where the chopped salad station offers almost a dozen types of greens, countless vegetables and delicious dressings. Seasoned vegetarians know they can always find an amenable array of delicious dishes at an Indian restaurant, and Carnival’s Tandoor is no exception. From its clay ovens emerge all types of naan breads, pilafs and poppadoms, plus lentil and vegetable-packed curries as well as side orders of chutneys galore.

When the omnivorous members of your family want to have dinner at the Steakhouse , don’t hesitate to join them. Vegetarian-friendly menu items there include grilled Portobello mushroom with a balsamic glaze, baked onion soup as appetizers, dinner salads of sun-ripened beefsteak tomatoes with gorgonzola crumbles, or baby leaf spinach and fresh mushrooms. Add a side or two to your meal, such as Yukon gold mash with horseradish or creamed spinach with garlic, and of course end your meal with a decadent dessert. There’s no question that you’ll leave satisfied.

Cruisers rave about the veggie burger at Guy’s Burger Joint , the perfect place for a casual, poolside meal to end a fun-filled day in the sun. It’s a hearty, two-hands-required creation, doctored-up however you like it at the toppings bar and best enjoyed alongside crispy, salty skin-on fries. Celebrity chef Guy Fieri is also responsible for the menu at Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse , another onboard eatery with veggie-friendly sides to rival its meat dishes. Order a generous portion of Mac Daddy Mac ‘n Cheese or Old Skool Potato Salad and you might find yourself fending the kids’ forks off your plate.

Snack time is any time you choose! Bean tacos topped with house-made salsas at BlueIguana Cantina are a perfect accompaniment to an icy margarita as you watch the sunset during a cruise to Mexico. And there are few better ways to cool down than with a towering cone of soft-serve ice cream from Swirls (open 24 hours on the Lido deck) as you sail across the blue Pacific to Hawaii .

Other onboard outlets open 24 hours a day to satisfy the whims of your appetite include Pizza Pirate , which offers vegetarian-friendly margherita, funghi and quattro formaggi slices and side salads, and the Carnival Deli, where a caprese sub with pickle spears on the side might be just what you’re after. Of course there’s also 24-hour Room Service , so pick up the phone, place an order and have whatever you fancy delivered directly to your stateroom door.

Enjoy a Vegetarian Vacation

With so many incredible veggie-friendly options onboard, a vegetarian cruiser need never eat the same dish twice, but that doesn’t mean you won’t want to. You may very well find yourself making a beeline to the Belgian waffles every morning, or calculating how many different pasta-sauce-veggie combos you can try before you get back home. There’s certainly no shame in ordering warm cookies from room service again .

Whether you’re the sole vegetarian in your group or your whole family has gone veggie, you will never feel short-changed when it comes to enjoying diverse, delicious and satisfying food at sea.

Norwegian Cruise Line Is About to Make Veggie Fans Very, Very Happy

Set sail with plenty of produce onboard.

dream cruise vegetarian food

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line has big things coming for 2025. Well, actually, just one really, really big thing: the brand-new Norwegian Aqua ship.

It comes with a hybrid roller coaster water slide, a glow-in-the-dark basketball court, enough space for more than 3,500, and some of the most innovative dining at sea. Including the company's first all-vegetarian restaurant.

In November, Norwegian announced the first sailing dates for Aqua, which is set to get underway in April 2025 with trips to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas. While en route, guests can spread out in its bountiful outdoor spaces, take a ride down the Aqua Slidecoaster, splash in the kids and adults-only pools, and even book out the line's first-ever three-bedroom duplex Haven Suites. And now, it's unveiling all its food offerings onboard too, which include plenty of best-in-class offerings.

"Discovering new flavors and dining experiences is such a memorable part of any vacation, especially when you share it with those who matter most to you," David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. "Expanding on our award-winning food and beverage program, we're looking forward to bringing new concepts to life aboard Norwegian Aqua, while continuing to deliver on the variety of available offerings and value that NCL delivers."

Those new concepts include Planterie, the brand's first dedicated plant-based menu eatery. As Norwegian explained, Planterie can be found in the Indulge Food Hall on deck eight and will offer "plant-based bowls and other healthy options."

Its menu includes the Southwest Bowl, made with smoked tempeh, and the Mediterranean Goddess Bowl, which comes filled with spiced vegetables, tabbouleh, and honey-roasted carrots. Here, guests can dine in or outside, and normally, we'd always suggest al fresco. However, the food hall also boasts a brand-new design by New York-based firm Rockwell Group, which brought in gold and metal furnishings and paired it with deep wood accents, making indoor dining a fantastic option too. In total, the food hall will come with 10 food stations offering global cuisine, so it's more than likely you'll be able to find something that tickles your taste buds.

But that's not all that's new. Norwegian Aqua will also come with two other brand-new onboard offerings, including Sukhothai, the line's first-ever Thai restaurant, and Swirl Wine Bar, a new, upscale wine bar located on deck six, which offers a wine-by-the-glass menu along with an extensive list of rare and premium vintages. And it happens to be right next to the Whiskey Bar, so you can always head over for a flight there too. See all the onboard offerings, and be among the first to try them during the inaugural sailings at ncl.com .

Carnival Cruises Is Launching Vegan Menus on All Ships—Here's What We Know

Carnival Cruises Is Launching Vegan Menus on All Ships—Here’s What We Know

If you’re setting sail on a carnival cruise this fall, great news: the company is launching a brand new vegan menu fleetwide..

by Charlotte Pointing

September 22, 2023

Following a pandemic-driven dip, Americans are back cruising again. According to Statisa, the volume of cruise passengers has “rebounded,” with nearly 12.6 million North Americans choosing to take a vacation on a cruise ship in 2022. There are a few reasons why people love to vacation on cruise ships—the multiple destinations, the entertainment, and, of course, the food. And lately, cruise liners have been upping their game when it comes to plant-based options.

The newest addition to the vegan-friendly cruise party is Carnival Cruise Line. The company, a subsidiary of the Carnival Corporation, operates 24 ships in total, which sail around popular destinations like the Caribbean, Mexico, the Bahamas, Europe, and Alaska. Now, passengers can fuel their time exploring with a full vegan menu, which will (eventually) be offered on all of its ships. Here’s what we know about the new animal-free additions.

Carnival’s new vegan food options

Carnival Cruise Line recently announced it would be introducing new vegan menus in the dining rooms of all of its ships. Right now, the menu is available on the Carnival Freedom and the Carnival Horizon, but, by the end of the year, it aims to implement the new vegan menus fleetwide.

According to Richard Morse, Carnival Cruise Line’s Senior Vice President of Food and Beverage, the new menus are in response to rising consumer demand for more meat- and dairy-free options. According to research from 2020, nearly one-quarter of Americans eat plant-based meats. Further research from 2022, which evaluated more than 12,000 consumers around the world, suggested that one in four consumers now identify as flexitarian .

“Plant-based food options are a rising preference on our ships just as they are on land, and so the new dishes we’re introducing are a direct response to that shift,” Morse said in a statement.

The vegan menus offer new appetizer options, including Hawaiian Salmon Poke, with plant-based salmon, and Spaghetti Carbonara with vegan bacon. For their main, customers can choose from options like Grilled Tofu Steak and Eggplant Cutlet a la Parmigiana. And for dessert, vegan sweet treats include Key Lime Velvet Cake and Dutch Double Chocolate Pave.

Screenshot+2023-09-18+at+3.58.40+PM

“Our skilled chefs work to accommodate all dietary needs and preferences but building on our vegan offerings and emphasizing them with specific menus will help to make ordering easier in the dining room and preparation more efficient in the galley,” Morse noted.

The cruise industry embraces plant-based menus

Carnival Cruise Line isn’t alone when it comes to embracing more vegan options. In 2021, Disney revealed it would offer vegan options at every restaurant on its newest ship, the Disney Wish , which set sail for the first time in 2022. And in 2019, Regent Seven Seas Cruises , a luxury cruise line, announced it would be adding more than 200 vegan dishes to menus across its four-ship fleet. Again, the decision was made in response to rising consumer demand.

“Plant-based cuisine appeals to a broad audience of luxury travelers,” Bernhard Klotz, Regent’s Vice President of Food and Beverage, said at the time. “This is an emerging, modern specialty cuisine that allows our guests to enjoy more flavorful foods that are in harmony with their current tastes and pushes the boundaries on Regent’s acclaimed culinary creativity and imagination.”

In June 2023, German cruise line Aida Cruises opened a new onboard restaurant serving primarily plant-forward dishes. And in July 2023, Celebrity Cruises revealed that its new ship, Celebrity Ascent, would offer a seven-course plant-based tasting menu in its signature restaurant.

“On board Ascent there is something to delight every guest, whether it is the fine dining connoisseur with a palate for the world’s best wines, the couple looking for an intimate and romantic night out, the family that desires to bond with their kids over a fun and high-energy experience, or the wellness-minded traveler desiring more plant-based, healthy options,” Celebrity Cruises’ President Laura Hodges Bethge said.

The cruise market is following a more general trend in the travel industry, with airlines and hotels around the world starting to offer more plant-based options, too.

If you want to ensure you have a good plant-based meal on your flight before you pick up your cruise, for example, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, American Airlines, and Delta are among the airlines now offering more vegan options (you can find a more extensive list of vegan-friendly flight meals here ).

Disney Cruise Food (Vegan, Gluten Free)

Last modified: March 30, 2024 . Originally posted: April 9, 2023 By Sophia DeSantis

A collage of six photos of meals, frozen drinks and Mickey ice cream from cruise ship dining.

Looking for vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free dining options on your Disney cruise ? I've got you covered with this comprehensive guide that covers it all!

Indulge in a variety of amazing vegetarian, plant-based or gluten free meals. The accommodations for all dietary preferences on a Disney cruise are second to none!

This post was sponsored by Disney Parks but the content and opinions expressed are fully my own.

The chefs pay special attention to all dietary needs and take them very serisously. Sail away worry-free and enjoy the ultimate culinary experience with our vegan and gluten-free options.

Disney cruises are truly magical experiences that offer those on board the opportunity to sail away to exotic destinations, indulge in delicious dining options, and make unforgettable memories.

For those with dietary restrictions or food allergies, it can be daunting to consider eating on a cruise. However, Disney Cruise Line is committed to providing exceptional dining experiences for all guests, including those with special dietary needs.

With a variety of options, ranging from vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free and even halal, there is something for everyone on board. And the special care they take to accommodate guests is second to none!

Every time I ordered from a quick service counter, I was personally attended to by a manager or head chef. They asked me all of my info and then wrote up a special ticket with my order.

When they made my food they made special precautions to avoid any cross contamination and ensure I got the dietary attention I needed.

Another cruise guest who ate halal had the same incredible experience. She let them know before the cruise and every night their servers made sure to cater to their dietary needs perfectly.

A man in a blue jacket holding up a pink slip of paper with a persons info and dietary accommodations needed.

Vegan and Gluten Free Options

The experience I am sharing focuses on the Disney Wonder ship. While all Disney Cruise Line ships take the same precautions, the detailed options are from the Wonder only.

I focused on my gluten free needs and Joe mostly ate vegetarian. The kids ate a wide variety of meals.

You can also read about our experience with vegan options and Disney Parks and Gluten free options at Disney parks along with all the options for the Disney Food and Wine Festival .

These counter service food options were a great way to grab a quick bite. While there are dinners set and planned each night, breakfast and lunch are on your own.

Every service counter offered gluten free options for most things. They easily swapped bread for gluten free versions, and pizza crust for gluten free pizza crust.

They also had dairy free cheeses to swap into any item with cheese. And dairy free milk options too.

Daisy's De-Lites

This was a counter service place that had healthier options like sandwiches, salads and a make your own bowl area. I loved the make your own bowls because you could pick a base and build from there!

  • a variety of sandwiches
  • daily soups
  • build your own bowls with picking a base and loading with toppings and sauces

There were tons of gluten free options in the make your own bar, I lived the quinoa base the best.

A white sign with orange writing saying Daisy over a sandwich counter service cafe.

Pete's Boiler Bites

This was a grill quick service area that had specials that changed each day. One day they had a plant based BBQ slaw dog that was so good! Other things you can order are:

  • veggie burgers (not gluten free)
  • fish burgers
  • chicken tenders

They had gluten free buns for anything you ordered!

A yellow sign with pipes framed around with grey writing saying Boiler Bites and a list of items under.

Pinocchio's Pizzeria

This was a make your own pizza bar or you can get premade pizza by the slice. They had both a gluten free pizza crust option and a dairy free cheese option. Plus loads of toppings to pick from.

A chef handing someone a pizza on a yellow plate over a glass covered counter.

Cabanas Buffet (breakfast and lunch)

The buffet was all encompassed. It had just about everything and anything you could want, but the mickey waffles at breakfast were a huge favorite for the kids!

Here is a sample of what you can find for breakfast:

  • eggs, scrambles, etc
  • sausage, bacon, etc
  • breakfast potatoes and hashbrowns
  • breads, bagels, biscuits
  • donuts, muffins, etc
  • asian style breakfast items
  • smoked salmon

Although you have some gluten free options (like fruit, vegetable, eggs or meats) and some vegan options (oatmeal bar, fruit, veggies) you can always pre order a gluten free or vegan breakfast to make it easier. They have vegan egg options and loads of gluten free options for the breads, etc.

Here is a sample of what you can find for lunch:

  • chicken nuggets
  • french fries
  • mac and cheese
  • sandwiches and wraps
  • grilled meats
  • assorted baked goods and desserts

Some of the things are gluten free by default (grilled meats, veggies, salad) and some vegan (salad, pasta, veggies) but pre ordering is the best way to ensure you get something you like. Things like veggie sandwiches and wraps, vegan chicken nuggets, stir fries, etc.

A boy wearing blue Mickey ears and glasses smiling big in front of a plate with mini Mickey waffles and fruit on it.

Eye Scream Treats

This area was a soft serve machine with a variety of flavors, with a special flavor each day. You could get cones or cups.

This did not have a dairy free option but you can get dairy free ice cream or sorbet in the buffet area!

Sulley's Sips

The smoothies here were really good! I loved the juice tonic packed with greens, it was actually much better than anticipated! You can also add plant based protein powder for a great filling breakfast or snack.

Here are some of the smoothies they had:

  • Juice tonic
  • Fruit palace
  • Super berry

But one of my favorites was the Dole Whip with a rum floater! You can get it without too but the added rum made a great adult cocktail to sip by the pool. They also had coffees and ice teas.

A blue sign of Sulley from Monsters inc with menu items for smoothies.

One of the best things on the Disney Wonder was all the snack stations around the ship. From popcorn stands to mini snack bars. There was always something for everyone! The popcorn is vegan and gluten free friendly.

A boy in a grey shirt and jeans in front of a red tablecloth covered table with a popcorn machine on top.

Bars and Coffee Shops

Along with snack bars around the ship, there were also a handful of bars to grab cocktails and one amazing Coffee shop called Cove Cafe!

Our favorite cocktail was the Frose (a frozen rose drink made with strawberries). I love making them at home so when I saw it on the menu I had to try it. It was fantastic and not overly sweet!

The coffee shop not only had plenty of dairy free milk options, but also made these awesome Mickey and Minnie characters on the top! It was a machine that did it but we were blown away.

All of these places had plenty of both gluten free and vegan options.

A dark grey counter top with a variety of colorful drinks and signs in front of each one.

Room Service

Ordering food to your room was also included in our cruise. Just like in a hotel room, you can dial room service and order anything you want off the menu. A little tip is that you can order a mickey ice cream bar any time all day!

The room service menu options had many gluten free and vegan options from breakfast to lunch and dinner.

Along with being able to order food to your room at any time, we also get little treats each night of the cruise. If you have specific dietary needs make sure you let your stateroom attendant know.

A while plate with four macarons in peach and pink colors and a chocolate circle on top.

Each night on a Disney cruise you select a dinner seating time, our choices were 5:45 or 8:15. For each seating, you rotate around to the different restaurants.

We started with Triton's, then went to Animators Palace and did it again for Pirate Night, and the last night we ate at Tiana's. There is also a fourth option, Palo, but this is an extra cost option that you book on your own.

Every single restaurant had multiple vegan and gluten free options to choose from. They also were able to modify many items to be vegan, vegetarian or gluten free.

This main dining room is on the upscale side. It features American food with a French flair. Menu options include:

  • appetizers including duck, lobster and shrimp, escargot, and brie
  • French country bread with olive spread
  • deserts including soufflé, crème brûlée, tart, and sundae

For vegan and vegetarian options they had an impossible burger, mushroom pasta, and grilled tofu. In the past menus have included vegetarian stir-fries and falafel.

Many of the entrees were gluten free, as well as the duck confit and lobster and shrimp appetizers. The leek and potato soup and the pear salad were also featured without gluten.

A white plate with a green salad topped with radish slices and a whiteish dressing.

Animator's Palate

This super fun restaurant featured a savory fusion of Pacific Island, Asian, and California flavors. Other than the yummy food, the unique dinner show was a blast!

  • appetizers like smoked salmon tartare and serrano ham
  • focaccia with roasted garlic dip
  • desserts were cake, cheesecake, pudding, and a sundae

The vegetarian appetizers and mains when we went were Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes and a Tomato Tarte, and Black Bean Chipotle Cakes and Halloumi.

A number of the mains were already gluten free, as were a couple salads, and the potato cheddar soup.

Top view of a white plate with Mickey shaped holes filled with pasta, apple slices and broccoli.

Tiana's Place

While we wait for the restaurant at the parks to open, we can already get a taste on the Disney cruises! Enjoy the jazz music and story telling while you enjoy the fabulous Southern cooking.

  • appetizers include sausage fritters, a cajun charcuterie platter, and shrimp and grits
  • tomato soup
  • brioche with roasted onion dip
  • desserts were beignets, layered sponge, bread pudding, and a sundae

The vegetarian items on the menu were an artichoke ravioli and roasted butternut squash. We also tried some amazing vegan Indian dishes that our waiter brought us to try and they were delicious! My fave was a curry with eggplant and rice.

There was a gluten free tuna tartar for an appetizer, a seafood pepper pot, wedge salad, shrimp salad, lobster salad, and entrees, even gluten free beignets and New Orleans Bananas Foster Sundae!

A boy in a purple polo shirt and jeans under a sign saying Tiana's on a bring wall.

This is an adults only upscale restaurant that offers Italian food with a modern twist. We didn't go this time around but the menu includes:

  • caprese salad
  • antipasta salad
  • other salads
  • desserts like a cheese plate, soufflés, a tart, tiramisu, and panna cotta

Vegetarian options include a grilled mushroom and saffron arancini. While a variety of entrees, sides, and salads are gluten free. Speak with your server to discuss more options, or order ahead to ensure you get what you want!

Another thing you can do on a Disney cruise is book special experiences. From a brunch at Palo to cocktail tastings and mixology classes, there are many options for all types of dietary preferences.

The experience we chose was a chocolate and wine tasing. There were options for dark chocolate to meet the needs of those who don't consume dairy. It was super informative and delicious!

A couple sitting on a red couch in front of two low tables with lined up wine glasses and chocolates on them.

  • Disney cruises do a great job of providing multiple options for plant based, gluten free, and other dietary preferences. However it's still important to talk to each restaurant and counter you eat at to communicate your dietary needs.
  • Be sure to let restaurant staff or chefs know that you a need vegan or gluten free options, and ask about their procedures to prevent cross-contamination if you are concerned about that. If you say you have an allergy, versus a preference, a chef will come out to talk to you personally.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions, they're all more than willing to help you find vegan and gluten free options. You can even ask for the specific ingredient information.
  • When your food is served, especially at quick service spots, you can also double check with the cast member that is handing it to you that it is vegan or gluten free.
  • Some menus and menu items have distinctions to address certain diets, but make sure to ask the cast member what the distinctions mean for that item.

While accommodating dietary preferences is amazing for those that have medical or personal reasons for eating a certain way, Disney also makes other efforts to be environmentally friendly.

Here are a few things they do that blew me away:

  • Their fireworks are made from biodegradable material
  • All ships have dedicated Environmental Officers
  • the ships save all of the used cooking oil to recycle in ports of call. How amazing is this, in the Bahamas they convert the oil into biodiesel fuel for local vehicles!
  • The water that is collected from the air conditioning condensation is recycled onboard for other uses like laundry.
  • And easy and simple yet effective, both trash and recycling bins are available in each room!

Carnival Cruise Line Introduces New Vegan Dining Room Menu

New plant-based menu options will be available in all of Carnival’s main dining rooms by the end of the year.

Carnival Cruise Line is now offering new vegan menus aboard Carnival Freedom and Carnival Horizon as part of a fleetwide initiative to provide even more options for cruisers in its dining rooms. Moving forward, the new vegan menus will be rolled in across the fleet through the end of 2023.

The vegan menus will feature plant-based choices for appetizers, entrées, and desserts at each meal in the ships’ main dining rooms. Carnival chefs have developed recipes for each menu item that are free of animal products, and the proteins are derived from meat substitutes.

“Plant-based food options are a rising preference on our ships just as they are on land, and so the new dishes we’re introducing are a direct response to that shift,” said Richard Morse , Carnival’s senior VP of food and beverage, in a press release.

“Our skilled chefs work to accommodate all dietary needs and preferences but building on our vegan offerings and emphasizing them with specific menus will help to make ordering easier in the dining room and preparation more efficient in the galley,” Morse continued.

Ultimate Guide to Disney Cruise Vegan Food

By Stacey Homemaker on April 17, 2019 , Updated March 14, 2023 6 Comments

Disney Cruise Vegan Food Guide

This is the ultimate guide to eating vegan on a Disney cruise! It includes options to eat at Cabanas, all of the MDR restaurants, Palo, and dessert. Plus, a printable pre-order form to help you order your meals on the ship!

A collage of pictures showing vegan food options that you can eat on a Disney Cruise.

I recently got back from my third Disney cruise and I feel pretty comfortable saying that I got to experience most of the vegan options that are offered on a Disney cruise. I was vegetarian on our first cruise and 100% vegan on the last two.

If you're interested in watching our super fun daily cruise vlogs on our youtube channel, check out our vegan Halloween on the High Seas cruise videos  and our vegan Very Merrytime Christmas cruise videos .

I want you to have the best experience eating vegan on a Disney cruise, that's why I'm sharing everything that I've learned. Don't make the same mistakes that I made, if you follow this guide you'll be good to go! Make sure you check out my list of 159 Disney Cruise Tips if this is your first cruise!

Are Disney Cruises Vegan-Friendly?

Yes, Disney cruises are extremely vegan-friendly! They truly want to please you and will go out of their way to make a delicious vegan meal for you. They offer vegan meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the buffet, quick service, and sit-down MDR restaurants.

My Disney Cruise Experience as a Vegetarian/Vegan

I've been lucky enough to go on three Disney cruises (twice on the Fantasy and once on the Magic) in the last three years and each one was fantastic but the food was different on each cruise.

I found it extremely easy to eat vegetarian on the first Disney cruise because all of the restaurants and quick service spots had at least one vegetarian option on the menu.

I was a bit worried before our last two cruises if there would be enough for us to eat on the cruise that was vegan-friendly. The first cruise we went on as vegans (in September 2018) started out a bit rough. I wasn't aware that there was a specific way that you should order so you could get vegan-friendly meals. Once I learned the right way to order, the rest of the second cruise and the entire third cruise was a breeze!

Do This as Soon as You Book a Cruise

The first thing you need to do is call Disney Cruise Line and let them know that you're vegan or have food allergies. They will put a note about your food preference on your account and that will alert the servers of your food preference before you get on the ship.

Next, join the Veg Disney Facebook group so you can ask any questions that you might have about vegan food on a Disney cruise and you'll be able to see any recent pictures of Disney cruise vegan options.

What to do When You First Get on the Ship

As soon as you board the ship, most people go to lunch at Cabanas or to one of the MDR restaurants if it's open. If you go to Cabanas (like we do), look for an employee that's wearing a headset, they will be able to help you order a special vegan meal from the chef. You can either request something from them and they will talk to the chef or the chef might come out and tell you what options they can make for you.

Vegan Food at Cabanas Buffet

Yes, Cabanas does have a few vegan as-is options on the buffet for breakfast and lunch. I would recommend always pre-ordering a vegan meal for breakfast and lunch even if there are vegan options on the buffet.

Vegan Breakfast Options at Cabanas

There is an oatmeal bar with nuts, seeds, and dried fruit toppings. There is plenty of fruit: pineapple, grapes, papaya, watermelon, bananas, honeydew melon, and cantaloupe. The roasted potatoes are cooked in oil and so are the mushrooms. Recently, a sign has been spotted on the Fantasy at the omelet bar that says you can order a plant-based scramble with vegetables that's made with the Just Egg.

In addition to the buffet options, we always pre-ordered a seasoned tofu scramble with extra vegetables, vegan mickey waffles, and hash browns. For some reason, the Mickey waffles were never good-- they always tasted chewy and like they had been microwaved for too long.

A plate with a Mickey waffle, tofu scramble, hash brown, and a fork on a table.

Vegan Lunch Options at Cabanas

On the buffet, there are french fries, plain pasta with marinara sauce, mushroom and asparagus salad, and the salad bar are all vegan (bottom left picture). Occasionally, they have vegan Indian food on the lunch buffet but that changes daily.

Besides those options, you'll need to speak to a chef about what they can make for you or make sure to pre-order the day before if you know you'll be eating at Cabanas the next day. Besides the vegan options on the buffet, we also pre-ordered:

  • Crispy tofu nuggets
  • Vegetables hummus wraps
  • Vegetable stir-fry with noodles
  • Vegetable sushi

How to Pre-Order Your Vegan Meals

The key to having the best vegan dining experience on a Disney cruise is to pre-order your meals the night before.

On the first night of your cruise, you'll have to order off the dinner menu since you just arrived that afternoon (not enough time to pre-order). Hopefully, they will be able to veganize the vegetarian option that's on the menu (each MDR has 1-2 vegetarian options on the menu). This is the first time you'll meet your serving team, so make sure you explain your dietary preferences right away so they can guide you through the menu.

Before you leave the restaurant, make sure you ask your server to see the menu for the next night. Review the menu and see if any of the vegetable-based appetizers, salads, or vegetarian entree options appeal to you.

Tell your server (nicely) exactly what you would like to eat the next day. You can politely request for them to prepare a vegan version of almost anything vegetable-based on the menu for dinner the next night. If you don't care for anything on the menu, you can request something else within reason.

After our first vegan cruise, I found that it was much easier to write down my food requests (for the next day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) on this pre-order form that I made and give it to our head server each night at dinner. The head server then passed my order on to the chef and they actually thanked us for writing it out because it made it easier for them to know exactly what we wanted and where we would be eating.

Pro Tip - I noticed that some nights they brought out family-sized portions of meals that I pre-ordered. If you don't want enough for the table to share, make sure you make a note on the pre-order form how many portions you would like.

A hand holding a menu pre-order form that has has meal orders written on it during a Disney cruise.

You can get my pre-order menu form, here .

If you leave hungry as we did on the first night, you can always go to the quick-service restaurant (located on the pool deck) and order a vegetable burger with fries or vegan pizza. If you'd like pizza, make sure you ask for vegan cheese and extra vegetables. For some reason, they only had yellow cheddar slices available. It looks odd but tasted pretty good!

MDR Restaurants Vegan Options

On our second Disney cruise (the first cruise as vegans), we only ordered off the menu for dinner each night at the Main Dining Room (MDR) restaurants because we didn't know that we could request anything else. All of the dinner menus had vegetarian options and some were vegan as is. They were able to veganize some of the vegetarian options for us.

Here are some of the menu items that we ordered off the menu (from top left to bottom right):

  • Cucumber roll
  • Samosas (without the yogurt dipping sauce)
  • Salad (We also loved the spinach salad with raspberry vinaigrette)
  • Quinoa fennel salad
  • Couscous salad with hummus
  • Pumpkin curry with jasmine rice, spinach, and asparagus
  • Pearl barley cakes
  • Grilled tofu with vegetables and pearl couscous
  • Spicy black bean cakes with rice

A photo collage of vegan food options available on a Disney cruise.

We learned on our third cruise that in addition to ordering veganized versions of entrees off the menu you could request specific dishes that weren't on the menu. We already knew they could make certain entrees from our previous cruises so it was awesome to be able to request some of our favorite items like the samosas and mushroom soup. I pre-ordered the samosas every night of the cruise-- they are delicious!

  • Falafel wraps with hummus and pita bread
  • Spicy tofu ramen noodle bowls
  • Sauteed veggies with tofu (request that the tofu is crispy, our was soft and unseasoned)
  • Mushroom soup

A photo collage of vegan food options that you can order on a Disney cruise.

Disney Cruise Indian Food

After our first vegan Disney cruise, we learned that you can pre-order Indian food with your choice of protein. I wish we had known about this option on our first vegan cruise because the Indian food that we had on our second vegan cruise was fantastic! I loved every single dish!

A photo collage of Indian food available on a Disney cruise.

We tried (from top left to bottom right):

  • Mushroom pea curry
  • Eggplant curry
  • Red lentil dahl
  • Spicy red curry tofu with crispy naan bread
  • Vegetable curry with jasmine rice and sauteed spinach
  • Lentil curry with jasmine rice

Disney Cruise  Vegan Palo Options

We also went to Palo brunch while on the cruise and they did have multiple vegan options on the buffet!

  • Marinated artichokes
  • Fresh fruit
  • Roasted endive
  • Roasted vegetable stack
  • Cucumber salad
  • Mushroom salad

The tomato soup is the only vegan option on the menu but they did make me a vegetable pasta dish that was very tasty. For dessert, there are no vegan options on the buffet but they made me a strawberry basil sorbet and it was the best sorbet I've ever tasted in my life! I definitely didn't leave hungry and I would go back again in heartbeat!

A collage of photos showing the vegan food options available at Palo brunch on a Disney cruise.

We didn't go to Palo dinner on either vegan cruise so I can't tell you for sure what vegan options they might be able to prepare. However, I'd probably guess that it would be very similar to the brunch options.

If you're vegetarian, I can highly recommend the portobello mushroom with polenta. I ordered this vegetarian option off the menu on our first cruise (when I was just vegetarian) and it was one of my favorite meals I've ever had!

Vegan Castaway Cay Options

Eating vegan at Castaway Cay is very easy to do as long as you pre-order your meal the night before! If you don't pre-order your meal, they do have vegetable burgers available upon request but they will most likely cook it on a shared grill. There is a large fruit bar available at each of the Cookies BBQ locations that are safe for you to eat from but there's not much else.

We always preorder a vegetable burger, a greek salad with tofu, couscous vegetable salad, and fruit.

Vegetable burger, fresh fruit, couscous salad, and greek salad on a blue-rimmed plate on top of a picnic table at Castaway Cay.

Dairy-Free Ice Cream & Desserts

The eye scream ice cream machines that are on the pool deck of the Disney cruise ships are not vegan. However, you can get dairy-free rice cream or raspberry sorbet at the dessert counter in Cabanas during lunch. You can also preorder vegan ice cream for dessert at dinner.

A collage of photos that shows the vegan dessert options on a Disney cruise.

Here are all of the desserts that we tried (from top left to bottom right):

  • Chocolate lava cake
  • Mango mousse with coconut whipped cream
  • Raspberry sorbet
  • Enjoy Life Snickerdoodles
  • "Happy Birthday" chocolate cake
  • Mango pudding with fresh strawberries

The chocolate cakes were hit or miss, one night it was delicious and the other three times I ordered it it was tough and rubbery. I loved the mango mousse (on the Fantasy) and mango pudding (on the Magic). Raspberry sorbet or fresh fruit are offered for dessert at all of the MDR restaurants or you can pre-order the chocolate cake or mango mousse.

The Enjoy Life cookies are what they brought when I called room service and asked if they had any vegan cookies. I wasn't sure what was going to show up, but they were delicious and it was a nice surprise that they brought a whole box!

There are also a few vegan options at "Sweet on You" on the Fantasy.

What About Coffee Creamer?

I know coffee creamer may seem trivial but as a person who drinks a cup of coffee every morning, having my favorite vegan coffee creamer is important! Disney cruise ships only carry almond milk (as of 12/15/18) to use as a substitute coffee creamer.

To be honest, it's not great. I dealt with it on our first cruise but I didn't want to do it again so I brought my own creamer for the next two cruises!

We live within driving distance of Port Canaveral so I put a sealed bottle of my favorite unsweetened Ripple coffee creamer in a soft top lunch box with a small ice pack and carried it on board with me.

I was prepared to explain my dietary issue if the security people asked why I had it but nobody said anything. I carried it on board with no issues and put it in the mini-fridge in my room. It worked perfectly!

Even if you don't live close as we do, you could make a quick stop at a grocery store on the way to the port to pick up a new bottle of your favorite coffee creamer to use on the ship. It's worth it!

Which Disney Cruise Ship Had Better Food?

That's a really tough call because our first two cruises were on the Fantasy and at that time we didn't know how to pre-order properly. We only had one dinner that wasn't great on the Fantasy and that was my fault for not pre-ordering the night before.

Everything else that we ate on both ships was delicious! Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong with either ship. I truly felt that they wanted to please us and make sure that we ate exactly what we wanted.

Is Disney The Best Cruise Line For Food Allergies?

I haven't been on any other cruise lines to compare. We're afraid to book anything but Disney because we don't want to be disappointed! If you have tried other cruise lines while being vegan, please leave a comment and share your experience with us!

Is a Disney Cruise Worth it for Vegans?

In my opinion, yes, it's definitely worth it! All three of the Disney cruises that we went on were the best vacations of my life! As I said, there was only one meal that wasn't great and it was my fault that it turned out like that.

If you do your research about what to order, use the pre-order form that I linked above, and communicate your dietary needs (food preference or allergy) with your server then it will be smooth sailing!

Disney makes it so easy and they have so many options for vegans, I bet there will be even more new options by the time you get on the ship. I hope you have the best time on your vacation and eat tons of delicious food for me!

Thank you for all of this information! We are going on our first Disney cruise next spring and our family is plant-based. One question I have is how did you know what options were available for pre-order so you could fill out your list for the server? Also, is breakfast always at Cabanas or are there other options? Thank you!!!

Hi, Lisa! It's been a few years since we went on our last cruise, so I'm not sure if anything has changed since then. But at that time, our server would show us the menu the night before so we could pick out what menu items we wanted for the next day. I liked to write it down for them just to keep it organized and it seemed to work out well that way.

They also told us that we could request items that we had already had on previous days even if it wasn't on the menu for that day. That's how I ate samosas and mushroom soup almost every day of the cruise! LOL

They are very accommodating and helpful. We had plenty to eat and there were lots of choices at Cabana's. We went to Cabana's most days for breakfast and lunch, but I'm pretty sure I remember the regular restaurants having plant-based options for breakfast and lunch too. I just liked the buffet. Hope that helps!

Thanks...this is so helpful. We love Disney Cruises but I was concerned that it might not be worth it now that we are all plant-based.

Thank you for the info on vegan food. We where on the Fantasy last year & loved it. Though my child is now vegan & I really want to make sure she can eat on the ship. I did call ahead to see if they have almond milk & other items on board. Though they couldn't really tell me the menu options. I'm going to call another number to follow up. Your info on menu items to order & ask for is very helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to do this.

I'm so happy to help, Summer! I can tell you that they did have almond milk and soy milk available on all three of our cruises. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! I'm sure your child will have no problems eating vegan on your cruise, they have so many options now! I hope you have the best time on your next cruise!
