Laugh, learn and experience our fantastic 1-hour live guided tour by Road and River!

The commentary we offer is fun, lighthearted with a dash of history, keeping it fun for all ages.

Our unique adventure begins by road in the heart of Windsor, taking in the famous sights, before ‘SPLASHDOWN’ into the River Thames, travelling downstream to Windsor with unforgettable views of Windsor Castle and Eton.

We run two types of tour – Swan and Mallard – which vary the time spent on water and road; check our website for details.

Our tours run most days of the year; check our booking pages for available dates and times.

Booking in advance during holidays and the summer season is essential to reserve your place on our tour.

We also offer private hire for corporate groups, birthdays, schools, etc.

Our tour pick-up point is DUCK STOP, opposite Theatre Royal, 32 Thames St, Windsor, SL4 1PS.

The 26-seat amphibious vehicle we use was purpose-built in 2010 for maximum safety and comfort of our passengers.

Our vehicles are NEW, purpose-built to carry passengers, not converted wartime units.

They meet safety standards for land (VOSA) and water (MCA) straight from the factory.

RIVER CONDITIONS

It is possible at some times of the year, mainly in Winter, after very heavy rain  for a number of days  the river will go into flood and flow fast. At these times, we may have to stop running the water part of the tour at short notice as this makes it unsafe for us to operate on the water. Customers who are booked will be emailed offering various options generally over and above our terms and conditions inc full refund.

Boston duck boat captains rescue toddler and father from Charles River

Officials say a Boston “duck boat” rescued a father and son from the Charles River

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Captains of a Boston “duck boat” rescued a father and son from the Charles River after the toddler tumbled into the water followed by his father on Monday, officials said.

The Boston Duck Tours boat, which take tourists both on water and on land, was participating in quarterly safety drills when it retrieved the pair from the water. The boy was taken to a hospital as a precaution Monday morning, the Cambridge Fire Department said.

“This is crazy. This is happening while we’re doing training," Michael Rosario, one of the captains, recounted to reporters. “Now we’re doing real-life rescue.”

The boy, who’s under 2, got past safety railing and fell into the river behind the Royal Sonesta, a riverfront hotel in Cambridge, according to Massachusetts State Police. His father quickly jumped in after him.

Photos showed both of them in the water with the father clinging to a rock face with one arm while holding his son with the other.

Rosario and co-captain Kevin O’Neill tossed out a safety ring, maneuvered close to them and dropped a ladder. Once both were safely aboard, they motored to the dock in Cambridge where they were met by first responders.

“We were happy to be in the right place at the right time,” said Tom Vigna, director of marketing for Boston Duck Tours.

This story was first published on Aug. 19, 2024. It was updated on Aug. 20, 2024, to correct the name of one of the boat co-captains. It was Kevin O’Neill, not Kevin O’Neil.

Boston Duck Tour Boat rescues child, father from Charles River. What police say happened

Portrait of Melina Khan

A Boston Duck Tour Boat was in the right place at the right time Monday morning, when it came to the rescue of a child and father who had fallen into the Charles River.

Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, a passing Duck Boat spotted a child and father in the water of the Charles River, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The boat rescued the pair and dropped them off safely at a nearby dock. The child was brought to a local hospital out of precaution.

Here's what officials say happened.

Child, father rescued after falling into Charles River: what happened

Around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, State Police received a report of a child who had fallen into the Charles River by the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge.

Officials said they believe the child, who is under two-years-old, squeezed through a railing and fell into the water. The child's father jumped into the river after them.

A passing Duck Boat came to their rescue, taking them aboard and dropping them off safely at a nearby dock.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

What is a Duck Boat?

A Duck Boat is a replica of a truck used in World War II that can be used on land or at sea.

Boston Duck Tours uses Duck Boats to give sightseeing tours around the city, traversing both roads and rivers.

The boats are also historically used for professional sports championship parades in Boston.

The fountains of Peterhof

#Attractions #Peterhof #Sightseeing #Parks

One of the main distinguishing features of the Peterhof fountains is the original arrangement of a conduit. Unlike Versailles, this grandiose construction works without pumps and other water-pressure facilities. Water is supplied from numerous natural and artificial ponds, nourished by underground sources and springs.

The Grand cascade

At first, Peter I had planned the ponds of the Upper garden to be the water source for the Grand cascade and its fountains, but soon the tireless ruler, who personally investigated the area, found additional sources of water, which situated in the neighborhood of the future Peterhof Park. The nature of the terrain enabled the creation of a system of conduits, in which the water flowed by gravity from dozens of ponds, located above the Lower Park and the Upper garden.

Thus, all 4 cascades, and 191 Peterhof fountains (including the Grand cascade water cannons) are fed by ponds of Ropshinsky hills (which are located at a distance of 24 kilometres), as well as English, Meadow, Olgin and other ponds (18 ponds overall) and many streams and sources. All of these sources combine into a complex system of sluices and canals with total length of 40 kilometers. The most surprising fact is that the system of water pipelines constructed by the order of Peter I and with his personal participation operates to this day.

“The most notable of all the Peterhof fountains is spectacular and majestic Grand cascade”

The most notable of all the Peterhof fountains is spectacular and majestic Grand cascade. This gilded splendor includes 255 sculptures, bas reliefs and other architectural structures, as well as 64 fountains with 138 water jets soaring skyward. The focus of the entire composition is the famous gilded “Samson tearing the lion’s mouth”, and in the center of the cascade there is a Lower grotto with a viewing point decorated with golden sculptures and marble bas-reliefs.

Another cascade fountain, named Checkerboard hill, looks like a bright spot on green background. 20-meter speed checker board with two mysterious caves that are guarded by three dragons is sometimes also called the Cascade of dragons. On both sides of the construction there are staircases, decorated with sculptures of white marble. At the beginning of the World War II, the sculptures had been removed and hidden, while the cascade itself was completely destroyed by the Nazis.

The “Favorite” fountain

Like many years ago, the moving fountains are extremely popular among the visitors of Peterhof Park. These include the “Favorite” fountain, created in 1725. It depicts quacking ducks floating in a circle, and a little dog that unsuccessfully tries to catch them. It is a good sign if you lucky enough to throw your coin right at the duck’s back and if the coin remains there. So despite its modest size, park staff daily extracts a lot more coins from the “Favoirte” than from any other Peterhof fountain.

Today Peterhof is the most popular of all the Petersburg suburbs. Its palaces and fountains impress the most sophisticated travelers. Each of Peterhof fountains is a jewel in its unique and luxurious collection. If you want to find yourself in a dreamland, come to Peterhof and take a walk in its enchanting parks among fabulous fountains.
