Versailles, far more than just a Palace!

Our Versailles Bike Tour with reserved entry into the Palace is the perfect way to discover the grandeur of the 2,000 acre Royal Domain of Versailles!

You'll start your tour by exploring the local farmers market and picking up some supplies for your picnic lunch along the lake. Then spend the day discovering the royal grounds, the inside of Marie Antoinette’s private domain, the Grand & Petit Trianon chateaux, culminating in your reserved entry into the beautiful Palace of Versailles with its famous Hall of Mirrors.

Cycle with us and learn about the Sun King’s life and legacies, the scandals of Louis 15th and his 50 mistresses, and Queen Marie-Antoinette during the French Revolution. Your guide will share the French Royalty’s history with you in a fun and interactive way and you’ll go home loving Versailles.

FYI : Blue Fox Travel does not make you carry your Blue Bike™ onto the train, the bikes for this tour are stored just across the street from the Palace, in Versailles.

Picnic By The Lake.

A perfect day in Versailles.

On our Versailles Bike Tour we’ve planned out everything to be fun, easy, and well organized. We’ve focused on all the little details and created an incomparably awesome, stress free, day of exploration in Versailles.

Start the day by meeting up with your guide in central Paris at the train station named Gare Saint-Lazare (exact details in booking confirmation). We’ll provide the train tickets for you and together you’ll take the train to the town of Versailles. The train ride takes about 35 minutes and then you’ll arrive right next to the Farmers Market. Please note than your Blue Bike™ is waiting for you in our Versailles bike hub, you do not have to carry your bike into the train.

Versailles Farmers Market and picnic by the lake.

Your first stop in Versailles will be the wonderful Farmers Market. There you’ll be free to roam the brimming food stalls and pick up your own lunch supplies for the picnic that’s planned for later in the day. Once you have finished shopping you’ll be fitted to a Blue Bike™ and given some bike panniers (baskets) so you can carry all of your picnic supplies.

Your guide will then lead you into the 2,000 acre Royal Domain of Versailles and show you all of the most picturesque and historically interesting parts of it. You’ll cycle at a medium speed and cover about 11K or 7 miles on mostly flat ground. During this time you’ll stop every 15 minutes or so to hear fun bits of history and learn about the life and legend of our famous Sun King, Louis the 14th, and our infamous Queen, Marie-Antoinette. You’ll also stop for a picnic lunch by the beautiful lake with a view over the Palace.

Marie-Antoinette's Hamlet

Louis the XIVth and Marie-Antoinette

Following the picnic you’ll get to experience some of the unique hideaways which the royalty enjoyed when you visit their private homes known as the Petit and Grand Trianons. You’ll learn about and enjoy free time inside of King Louis’ Grand Trianon, his marble summer home with exquisite French Gardens. Then you’ll cycle next door to learn about and explore inside of the very private Petit Trianon, which was built exclusively for the king’s favorite mistress Madame de Pompadour.

Afterwards you’ll have the free time to walk along the little dirt paths from the Petit Trianon to Marie-Antoinette’s Private Domaine. You’ll wander through the adorable English style garden and admire the small farmers village which Marie Antoinette had built for herself. It is unlike any other part of Versailles and gives us a deep and wonderful glimpse into the folly and longing of Marie-Antoinette’s heart. The time spent in the Private Domain of Marie-Antoinette, is completely on foot, as bikes are not allowed, and usually lasts 45 minutes.

Palace and Hall of Mirrors

By this time you will have learned about and experienced so much of the history of Versailles that the only thing left to do is explore inside the main Palace of Versailles itself, so that’s what you’ll do. You’ll say goodbye to your Blue Bike™ and your guide will escort you right to the entrance of the Palace itself where you will say goodbye to them. Inside of the Palace you'll be free to explore at your own pace and focus on the rooms that interest you the most for as little or as long as you like.

The Hall of Mirrors

Good to Know:

  • From April to October the French garden which is attached to the Palace closes at 8:30PM, so you will have plenty of time to visit it after your time inside the Palace.

Tickets to the Musical Fountain Show are included in our tour price only for participants who select the “Adults" fare. For Kids and Paris Museum Passes : tickets can be purchased directly on site if desired. Please note that these tickets are not necessary to have during our tour, you can visit the Fountain Show on your own after our tour is over.

  • We’ll provide all of the train tickets to and from Versailles back to Paris. The trains back to Paris leave every 15 minutes and the last train leaves around 11:00pm.
  • Most people prefer to spend about 1 to 1.5 hours inside of the Palace. If you’re like them then you can plan on being back in Paris sometime around 6-6:30pm so don’t make any dinner reservations before 7pm!
  • Gratuities aka "tips" are not included but welcomed by our guides.

Last updated : January 2019. Valid until : the end of the world.

I - Cancellation Policy

BFT offers a 100% refund if a reservation is cancelled more than 24 hours before the scheduled start of the tour. The notification must be made by email. No refunds are given for ANY reason once within the 24 hrs prior to the scheduled tour. All of our tours run Rain or Shine. We do not issue refunds if you choose to skip your tour because the weather doesn’t suit you. You can always wait until the last minute to book your tour to ensure the weather suits you that day. BFT reserves the right to cancel any of its tours last minute in case of an Act of God or crazy act from a large group of people. Flooding, hail, dangerous weather conditions, riots, etc. In such instances full refunds will be given to anyone who had their tour cancelled.

II - Satisfaction Guarantee Policy

If the tour you took with us didn’t live up to what we promised you on our website and failed to meet your expectations, we will be heartbroken. We will also give you a 100% refund so long as you do all of these things: You remember that we we are in no way responsible for the weather and that our guides actually have to give 110% of themselves to you on days when the weather is not as nice in order to help you enjoy the tour. You participate in the entire tour from: being on time at the meeting point until the “goodbyes” at the very end of the tour. You can’t leave a tour half-way and ask for your money back. At the end of the tour you tell your guide, in person, that you were not satisfied with the tour you took. You provide your tour guide with the reasons you were not satisfied with the tour itself.

III - Payment Policy

A valid credit card is required to secure your booking. All reservations must be prepaid online prior to the tour. We accept Visa, Mastercard. None of your personal credit card or billing information is stored by BFT.

IV - Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Your personal informations will never be disclosed to any third parties.

V - Child Policy

All reservations made for children under the age of 18 years old must be made by an adult and we must be informed at the time of booking exactly how many children are in your party and their ages. This is vital information as it allows our guide to prepare the proper child sized equipments for the bike tours and the booster seats for all day trips/excursions that use one of our vans. All reservations made for a minor under the age of 18 years old must also include the reservation for an adult who will be 100% solely responsible for the safety and well being of the child while on the tour. Every child, under the age of 12 years old, partaking in a bicycle tour will be required to wear a helmet and a reflective vest as per French Law. The adult who accompanies the child agrees to the responsibility of choosing a properly sized helmet, adjusting the helmet, and keeping the helmet on the head of the child during the whole tour. Blue Fox Travel has helmets in multiple sizes for you to choose from at no cost. Don't forget: Children who will be riding in a baby/child seat, on a tandem attachment bike, or in a booster seat in one of our vans absolutely MUST have their seat reserved beforehand. We NEED to know exactly what your child will need before they show up. Please make it clear in the “Special Requirements” section of our booking form.

VI- Child Bike Policy

Children who will be riding on their own may be subject to a very short test run before the tour starts in which they will be expected to demonstrate: that they are well suited for their bike’s size and settings, that they know how to brake properly and that they are, in general, good cyclists who can be trusted to follow their tour guide in a safe manner. We own 20” and 24” kids bikes (size of the wheel). Adult bikes are 26”. If the guide, or manager, finds that the child is not, for any reason, a good enough cyclist then the guide, or manager, has the right to refuse to let the child follow the tour on a personal bike. This means they will either be asked to ride on one of our ‘tandem attachments’ which is attached to the back of a parents bike OR asked to ride in a child seat attached to the back of a parents bike. If the child refuses the change, then the guide or manager has the right to cancel the reservation, and not allow you and your child on the bike tour. Refunds will not be issued if your reservation is cancelled because of your child not being able to cycle and their refusal to ride attached to you. Baby seats are for kids that are between the ages of 1 and 3 years old (max weight 22 kg (48 lbs)). We also have some cool Burley™ tandem attachment bikes that are suitable for little kids who are too big for the baby seat but too small to cycle on their own (max weight 38 kg (85 lbs) - max height 137 cm (4 ft 6 in)).

VII - Damages to Blue Fox Travel Property

If you or anyone in your party damages a vehicle, a Blue Bike™, a vehicle, a child's bike, a helmet, a baby/child seat, a tandem attachment bike, any bike attachments, or a booster seat in such a way that it becomes badly disfigured, broken, or unusable, then BFT reserves the right to claim a fee of up to the cost of repair of the damaged bike/vehicle or object.

We had a fantastic tour, made all the better by Dave’s expert knowledge and helpful guidance around the streets. All four of us (2 adults, 2 kids aged 13 and 10) found the pace perfect, the local facts fascinating and the whole tour hugely fun and enjoyable. A real highlight of our week and a great way to spend our first day in Paris. Jeremy M. Paris Day Bike Tour
Dave our tour guide was very friendly and really knew his subject and made it a really enjoyable day trip seeing the sights of Paris – would highly recommend Stuart D. Paris Day Bike Tour
Excellent, super fun and felt safe even though I’m not a very experienced biker! Sanni H. Paris Night Bike Tour
Very professionally run, not some fly-by-night operation where they just get you to the security point and say see-you-later. The tour guide Jess was very knowledgable and pointed out some interesting things even on the short walk over to the Tower. Once up on the 2nd floor, she pointed out some interesting places on all four sides along with some history of each, and gave some tips on the best way to get back down from the summit afterwards (the tour does not go to the summit because it is to small up there to manage a group). Once the guided part was over, we were on our own to to take the elevator to the top and get the high view. Even on a weekday the ticket line was reeeaaalllly long so it was well worth it just to skip that, and having the tour guide was a nice bonus! Highly recommended. James P. Skip-the-Line Eiffel Tower Tour with Summit Access
We had such a fun experience with OJ. He picked us up from our apartment and helped us navigate the metro to get to the Palace of Versailles. He was patient with our 3 kids and our pace. We picked the perfect day to go as it rained in the morning while we were in the palace and stopped by the time we rode to the market to get items for our picnic and then bike ride. It was fantastic getting a perspective of the palace grounds via bike. OJ was extremely informative and easy to converse with. He was a 5 star guide! Ayrel G. Private Versailles Bike Tour
We did this on our first day in Paris, and it was a great way to get our bearings and see the city. Dave was fantastic and great with our four children. Highly recommend! Elise R. Paris Day Bike Tour
We’ve toured three times with Fat Tire in London and Paris, and I have given them 5 stars every time. Betsy F. Paris Day Bike Tour
Really enjoyed our trip to Versailles with Fat Tire tours. Nice balance of seeing the palace with other activities. When asked my kids are saying it was their favorite part of our trip. Shelly S. Versailles Bike Tour
I did this tour 15 years ago as a young adult and loved being able to bring my 11 and 14 year old back to do the same tour. We loved it! Lauren L. Paris Night Bike Tour
We chose to do a private tour for our family of four. The guide was fantastic. Very organized, made us feel perfectly safe biking through Paris, was fun to chat with and provided fantastic information and insight into the history of the city. Highly recommend. Anna W. Private Paris Day Bike Tour
The Versailles Bike Tour was a highlight of our trip to Paris! We LOVED the incredible market filled with fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, cheeses, bread and flowers, and exploring the grounds of Versailles was such a memorable and special experience. Our tour guide, Richard, was INCREDIBLE! Highly recommend this amazing tour. MIchelle C. Versailles Bike Tour
