Carnival Conquest

About Carnival Conquest

Get ready for endless fun on Carnival Cruise Line's 110,000-ton, 2,984-guest Carnival Conquest. Bring everyone in the family along because there are plenty of activities and amenities designed to keep everyone smiling from ear to ear — including the kids! The huge Conquest-class ship underwent a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2012 that included the enhancement of various bars, dining and entertainment venues. Stunning interiors reflect the works of some of the great Impressionist and post-Impressionist painters, whose names are used at various public rooms.

Wherever you look, something exciting is happening aboard the Carnival Conquest — a delicious meal is being prepared, music is playing and cocktails are being mixed. Unwind with a tropical drink at the popular RedFrog Rum Bar, watch your favorite team at the SKYBOX Sports Bar, savor the famous fries at Guy Fieri's Burger Joint, indulge in a soothing massage at Spa Carnival and burn off calories at the state-of-the-art Fitness Center.

Lounge at the pools and watch movies and more at the jumbo poolside LED screen. Shrieks of delight will greet you at the 214-foot-long water slide called the Twister. Kids even have their own wading pool. Touch base with friends at the Internet Café and enjoy Wi-Fi in almost all public rooms and areas. Carnival Conquest also features whirlpools for total relaxation, the Painters' Library and boutiques.

Kids will never want to leave all the fun at Camp Ocean (ages 2 to 11) with specially created kid activities and they will always remember the "Seuss at Sea" fantasy-like experience. Imagine their delight when they sit down to a whimsical Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast with The Cat in the Hat and Friends. While parents are enjoying their cruise vacation, so can teens (ages 15 to 17), at their own Club 02, where they can watch movies, listen to music, play video games and join karaoke sessions.

Your taste buds will be delighted by the variety of delicious food. Diverse restaurants serve everything from handmade tacos and burritos that will melt in your mouth at BlueIguana Cantina Mexican station to a Reuben Sandwich at the New York-style deli. International cuisine is featured at the beautiful twin two-level main dining rooms named Monet and Renoir. Daily selections change nightly and a Kids Menu with all their favorites, including pizza, burgers, spaghetti and meatballs is available. Taste food from all over the world at the fabulous and popular poolside Cezanne buffet restaurant. Foodies flock to The Chef's Table for a private multi-course gourmet dinner and everyone loves celebrity chef Guy Fieri's Burger Joint created by the Food Network star, boasting his famous burgers and fries. A pizzeria with fresh hot pies is open 24/7 as well as room service.

Carnival Conquest boasts 573 total balcony staterooms, perfect for enjoying romantic Caribbean sunsets and magnificent sunrises. Feel right at home as you enjoy delightful amenities, such as first-run in-cabin movies. Special Carnival Comfort Beds with plush mattresses, luxurious duvets and covers will lull you to sleep. Expansive 230-square-foot verandah staterooms are ideal for families.

Exciting entertainment includes nightly shows at Punchliner Comedy Club Presented by George Lopez where you can join in the laughs. Hasbro (The Game Show), Playlist Productions and movies at the immense Seaside Theater, a 270-square-foot LED screen on the Lido Deck, showing movies, concerts and sports events, are other exciting options. The three-level 1,400-seat Toulouse-Lautrec Lounge is the beautiful main theater showing spectacular productions. Play the slots and other games at the popular Vegas-like Tahiti Casino, head to Henri's, the popular dance club and enjoy the music and fun at Vincent's Jazz Bar.

See for yourself why Carnival Conquest is such a favorite cruise ship with so many passengers returning time and again.

Fitness center

Fitness center

We have some bad news for you — your ship has a gym. In other words, there’s no excuse for leaving your fitness routine back on land. That’s great news, however, for your body, which will definitely benefit from all the extra energy that vacationing pumps directly into you. And let’s not forget the extra time you’ll have, since you won’t be waking up and spending most of the day at the office or anything like that. If those were some of your go-to excuses, we’re sorry, but we all know this is important. Why not treat yourself to some of our fitness classes — you might even have a little fun while you do something great for yourself!

Sauna

Massage room

Cruising always feels good, but it doesn’t usually — ooh, right there. Right where? Sorry, we’re at the onboard spa, where they do these amazing massages by hand. But they don’t just stop there — they’ve got tools to enhance the benefits too. Select from different hands-on experiences featuring seaweed for detox, herbal poultice for energy, bamboo for deep tissue penetration and hot stones for — ahhh — for perfection. We know you’re all about feeling good, and so are these massages.

Salon

A trip to the salon is an opportunity to relax, to chat with others, to focus on yourself. It’s about more than just getting your hair or nails done… but it’s definitely about getting your hair or nails done! Even though you’re on vacation, you won’t have to settle for anything less than the salon style you’re used to back on land. And these good looks go beyond the usual — we even offer services like teeth whitening… great for taking those ‘I’m on vacation and I’m looking great!’ smiles to the next level.

Mini Golf

Ah, imagine a perfect day out on the links, the golfer's zen of the ball, the hole and nothing in between but well-manicured fairway... plus one cactus, a treasure chest... and wait, is that a windmill in the way? Just who designed this course anyway? Whoever it was, they had one thing in mind — maximum fun for mini-golfers, big and small! That's precisely why you'll find a course on every Carnival ship, where you can hit the holes and take in everything you’d expect, like the sights and the sounds... plus the seagulls.Ah, imagine a perfect day out on the links, the golfer's zen of the ball, the hole and nothing in between but well-manicured fairway... plus one cactus, a treasure chest... and wait, is that a windmill in the way? Carnival conquest review, review of carnival conquest.

The 2002-built Carnival Conquest cruise ship is the first Carnival's Conquest-class vessel, with sisterships Freedom , Glory , Valor , Liberty .

The vessel (IMO number 9198355) is currently Panama- flagged (MMSI 357657000) and registered in Colon .

History - construction and ownership

Carnival Cruise Lines (CCL) is a US shipping company, trademarked brand and subsidiary of Carnival Corporation (shipowner). CCL was founded in 1972 as an independent company by Ted Arison (1924-1999, co-founder of NCL Norwegian ).

CCL has the Corporation's largest fleet as number of vessels and GT-tonnage (ship sizes/volumes and passenger capacities). In 2023, CCL had ~9% (by revenue) and ~19% (passengers) share of the cruise industry's worldwide market. In 2024, the parent company (Carnival Corporation) had ~51% stake in the US$64+ billion industry.

Carnival Conquest cruise ship

The 3000-passenger ship Carnival Conquest and her sisterships are among the biggest in the CCL fleet. They are basically larger versions of earlier Destiny-class ships, as well as and more feature-filled. More space reveals into additional decks, more bars and lounges, an upscale steak house, and well-proportioned public areas.

Decks and Cabins

Carnival Conquest staterooms (1492 total, in 27 grades) include 54 Suites, 521 Balcony, 330 Oceanview and 587 Inside cabins, including 25 wheelchair-accessible (in all cabin categories). The ship has no "family cabins" but instead offers connecting rooms in various categories. Most cabins are sized 170-185 ft2 (16-17 m2). Cabin balconies are sized 35-75 ft2 (3-7 m2). The ship has 3 types of suites - Captain's, Grand, Ocean. The largest are Captain's Suites (500 ft2 / 46 m2 plus 150 ft2 / 14 m2 terrace).

The boat has 13 passenger decks , of which 8 are with cabins. Over 50% of all staterooms are outside, 60% of those are with balconies.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Two formal restaurants onboard Carnival Conquest serve open seating breakfast and lunch. Dinner is served in an open seating option or two assigned seatings. The casual Lido buffet offers a number of food stations with a variety of choices, including a salad bar, deli, dessert station, daily regional cuisines. The ship also boasts an upscale supper club which assesses a cover charge and requires reservations. The focal point on Conquest is a mural collage of works by Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and Paul Gauguin, with backlit flowers of Murano glass. Carnival Conquest boasts 22 bars and lounges, giant disco with a jungle theme and stools shaped like lotus flowers, as well as a piano bar, sports bar, wood-paneled lounge with leather chairs and smoking section. Carnival Conquest Wiki

( Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade  was done in 2012. Extensively refurbished in 2012 (emerged from drydock in late October), the Conquest ship didn't receive the full "Fun Ship 2.0" upgrade package due to lack of enough deck space for all new facilities. The Conquest is of the Carnival fleet's Conquest-class boats, with sisterships Freedom , Glory ,  Liberty , Valor .

The first of the Carnival Cruise Line's Conquest-class liners ( Fincantieri Monfalcone -built) started its Inaugural Cruise/Maiden Voyage on November 12, 2002. The ship has a French Impressionist-style interior decor complementing the city of New Orleans . 60% of all staterooms are OceanViews and 37% have balconies. This ship is truly a great choice for families with kids.

Carnival Conquest refurbishments review

The ship's 2009 drydock refurbishment resulted in adding new cabin balconies, LED screen (Seaside Theater, overlooking the main pool area) and the "Circle C" kids club.

The "Fun Ship 2.0 "refurbishment (October 2012) added to the ship signature Carnival bars, burrito, sushi, burger joint, new comedy club (by George Lopez).

Carnival Conquest's last drydock (for scheduled maintenance and class works) was in September 2022, conducted at Navantia shipyard in Cadiz Spain . The works also included hull cleaning and repainting with Carnival’s new livery (red-white-blue) introduced on the flagship Mardi Gras .

The previous drydocking was in 2017.

During drydock 2022 was added CCL-Carnival fleet's first Pickleball Court (installed on top deck). The facility is part of Carnival SportSquare which also includes a Mini-Golf Course and a full-size Sports Court (for playing basketball and volleyball).

Last revamped in 2022, Carnival Conquest features cosmetic enhancements to select staterooms, as well as upgrades like new carpeting and lighting in public areas. Still, some felt Conquest showed its age despite these upgrades and could use a more major refurbishment. The ship appeals to a wide range of travelers and budgets, with amenities like Seuss at Sea, The Punchliner Comedy Club and the Alchemy Bar. It also includes "Fun Ship 2.0" features like Guy's Burger Joint and an outdoor movie theater, as well as signature bars BlueIguana Tequila Bar and RedFrog Rum Bar.

The ship carries 2,980 passengers and 1,150 crew members. Accommodations, ranging from Interior staterooms to Grand Suites, offer standard amenities such as flat-screen TVs and 24-hour room service. Those looking for more space should consider splurging on a Suite category room, which includes a large balcony, a walk-in closet and a whirlpool tub.

Along with signature line amenities, including a full-service spa, a casino and an expansive pool deck, the ship provides supervised programs and entertainment for cruisers ages 2 to 17, with various activities geared toward specific age groups.

Conquest departs from Miami  for sailings in the Bahamas , the Caribbean and the Panama Canal.

What are the newest Carnival ships? Here's a list of all Carnival cruise ships by age

Ashley Kosciolek

What is the newest Carnival cruise ship? With Carnival Cruise Line frequently turning out new ships and adopting others from sister brand Costa , it can be difficult to keep track of the line's more than two dozen vessels.

As with most things, the shiniest and most recently built hardware is often the most exciting. The newest Carnival cruise ships are the line's largest, and they offer tons of activities like trivia, dance parties, bingo and nightly shows; top-deck amenities like water parks, ropes courses and even roller coasters ; a staggering variety of cuisines, from steak to Italian to sushi; ample bars and lounges; and some of the biggest and most exclusive accommodations in the fleet.

As a general guide, Carnival Cruise Line's ships are divided into nine classes , with the Excel, Venice and Vista classes being the latest to debut.

If you're interested in sorting by the year they were built, here's a list of the newest to oldest Carnival ships to help you figure out which is right for you.

What is the oldest Carnival ship?

The oldest Carnival ship is Carnival Sunshine. The ship debuted in 1996 under the name Carnival Destiny, but the cruise line gutted it, redesigned it from bow to stern and renamed it Carnival Sunshine in 2013.

The elderly vessel now looks shiny and nearly new with an adults-only sun deck, a water park, a comedy club and several bars, lounges and restaurants, as well as a spa. Dr. Seuss characters also make appearances as part of Carnival's Seuss at Sea programming.

Are there any new Carnival ships being built?

At the time of publication, Carnival Jubilee, the third ship in Carnival's Excel class, was still under construction and set to be delivered to Carnival in 2023.

The vessel, along with sisters Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, was designed as a throwback to the ship of the same name, which sailed for Carnival Cruise Line from 1986 to 2004.

Although the new ships bearing the old names give subtle nods to their predecessors, they're exceptionally modern, offering state-of-the-art shows, excellent food and jaw-dropping top-deck entertainment, such as ropes courses, water parks and even roller coasters.

Additionally, although it's already built, Costa Firenze — which sailed its maiden voyage for Costa Cruises in 2021 — will become Carnival Firenze when the vessel transfers to Carnival in 2024.

What are the newest Carnival cruise ships available for booking?

Both Carnival Jubilee and Carnival Firenze are open for bookings, with the former's cruises beginning in December 2023 and the latter setting sail starting in May 2024.

Information for the ships' first voyages is as follows:

  • Carnival Jubilee, Dec. 23, 2023: seven-night Western Caribbean cruise, round trip from Galveston, Texas, from $1,819 per person.
  • Carnival Firenze, May 2, 2024: five-night Mexican Riviera cruise, round trip from Los Angeles' Long Beach port, from $339 per person.

Both fares are for inside cabins with no windows or balconies. Fares were accurate at the time of booking; they are subject to change without notice. Taxes and port fees are extra.

What is the newest class of Carnival ships?

Carnival's Excel class is the newest of the line's nine classes, comprising Mardi Gras (2021), Carnival Celebration (2022) and Carnival Jubilee, which is set to begin sailing for the line in late 2023.

Despite featuring a plethora of modern onboard amenities, all three ships are named for former members of Carnival's founding fleet, which dates back to 1972.

What's the difference between newer and older Carnival ships?

The biggest difference is that the line's older vessels are considerably smaller than its newer ones. Carnival's oldest ships carry between 2,100 and 3,000 passengers, while its newest can accommodate more than 5,000 people.

It's a given that smaller ships don't have as much room to offer every single amenity that the larger ones do, but Carnival has made significant investments in its vessels in an attempt to make them more uniform across the board, regardless of their age.

A testament to that is the rollout of its Fun Ship 2.0 initiative, which cost $500 million and took five years to implement. It added the Punchliner Comedy Club and passenger-favorite Alchemy Bar to most ships and also brought Guy Fieri to the high seas with Guy's Burger Joint — a partnership that has expanded to include barbecue and microbrewed beer on the newest ships in the fleet.

Another difference is that newer vessels — those in the Vista and Excel classes — offer Havana Cabana staterooms, which include exclusive access to a dedicated bar and pool area just for people booked in the corresponding staterooms. On Excel-class ships, luxury-seeking travelers can book the biggest accommodations available: Presidential Suites, which measure 1,120 square feet and have 600-square-foot balconies.

The decor is also an easy way to tell the age of a Carnival ship. Older hardware is decked out with fun colors, neon lights and art installations by renowned architect Joe Farcus, who previously designed Carnival's ship interiors. (He's also responsible for the line's iconic "whale tail" funnels.) The aesthetics of Carnival's more recent ships are similar to just about any other cruise line — expect neutrals with pops of color here and there but nothing terribly interesting.

Finally, fares are a key differentiator. The older the ship, the more likely it is to sail shorter itineraries at a lower price point.

A Guide to All 27 Carnival Cruise Ships

With 27 ships and hundreds of itineraries, there’s a Carnival cruise for everyone.

Courtesy of Carnival Cruises

Carnival Cruise Line offers numerous cruise options worldwide with a fleet of 27 ships. Their cruises include all the hits: celebrity chef-driven restaurants, onboard rollercoasters, dedicated kids venues, serene spa moments, adults-exclusive pool decks, and exciting destinations. Carnival has it all — and can be relatively affordable. But which ship is right for you?

After sailing on eight Carnival cruises, including voyages on its oldest ship, Carnival Elation , and the newer Carnival Celebration, I’ve learned that sailing on newer ships is generally more expensive, and older vessels are more budget-friendly. However, I often consider more than the total cost before booking a cruise. I look at the ports of call, the space-to-guest ratio, the amenities and onboard activities, and the launch point.

When I select a sailing, I book through Carnival Cruise Line’s reservation number to see if I can snag an exclusive deal not listed online. Carnival's free-to-join loyalty program, the Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) Club, offers deals like reduced deposits, onboard credit, and room upgrades. The more you book with the cruise line, the better your deals will be.

Before committing to a cruise, I break down the price per person per night, particularly if I need multiple cabins because I'm traveling with a group. I recommend you take advantage of Carnival's convenient 24-hour reservation hold, which displays the total cost, itinerary, and a countdown timer so you know when to purchase to secure the locked-in price.

Here, find guidance on every Carnival cruise ship, from the newest to the oldest.

Carnival Firenze

Inaugural Year: 2024

Ship Class: Venice Class

Ship Capacity: 4,126 double occupancy; 5,245 total guests

Standout Amenities: Amari bar for a peritivi and digestivi ; Serenity Adult-Only Retreat when you need time away from kids; and Pizzeria Del Capitano for hand-tossed pizza made with imported Italian ingredients

Originally debuted in 2021 as part of the Costa Cruises fleet (an Italy-based subsidiary of Carnival), the Firenze will set sail as a Carnival ship — with an Italian twist — in Spring 2024. Across Firenze , you’ll see touches of Italy; think cute cafe set-ups that look like they were picked up from a Florence sidewalk. Terrazza staterooms access a private sun deck with whirlpools and a bar. Carnival’s fan-favorite dining options and amenities, like Guy’s Burger Joint and WaterWorks, will be on board.

Carnival Jubilee

Inaugural Year: 2023

Ship Class: Excel Class

Ship Capacity: 5,374 double occupancy; 6,631 total guests

Standout Amenities: BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster rollercoaster; relaxing Cloud 9 Spa thermal suites with adjustable humidity and temperature; pickleball courts for challenging family and friends

Carnival Jubilee is the newest Excel-class ship in the fleet, sailing from Galveston, Texas. The massive ship offers Camp Ocean, the onboard kids club. Adults also have their own space at the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat with swaying hammocks and a bar.

Carnival Venezia

Ship Capacity: 3,934 double occupancy; 4,977 total guests

Standout Amenities: The Gondola Lounge, themed after Venice's beautiful canals; a pool area with a retractable roof

Initially built in 2019 for Costa Cruises, this ship joined the Carnival fleet in 2023. Carnival Venezia is ideal if you’re looking for a ship that celebrates one of Italy’s most iconic cities. Venice is the inspiration behind the indoor and outdoor areas, including the atrium, modeled after Piazza San Marco, and the Carnevale Lounge, inspired by Venetian masquerades. Don't miss the Venetian Toast, where the ship’s captain greets guests and crew don Venetian masks.

Carnival Celebration

Inaugural Year: 2022

Standout Amenities: Space Cruisers, a kids camp in partnership with Kennedy Space Center; The Golden Jubilee Bar for vintage cocktails; BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster

Carnival Celebration is all about never-ending good times. During my recent sailing, I found all the Carnival classics, like the Alchemy Bar and Guy’s Burger Joint, a thrilling ropes course, dive-in movies, and plenty of themed deck parties. If you’re looking to relax, it has that, too. Rent cabanas or lounge in the ocean-view whirlpools at Loft 19, where attentive staff take care of everything, like delivering you fruit and chilled towels. My favorite spot to hang out was the aft Patio Pool because it wasn't ever super crowded, and the view of the ocean was unmatched.

Carnival Luminosa

Ship Class: Spirit Class

Ship Capacity: 2,260 double occupancy; 2,826 total guests

Standout Amenities: Carnival fan-favorite Alchemy Bar; Circle “C” tween club; Cloud 9 Spa hydrotherapy pool for rejuvenating soaks

Carnival Luminosa (formerly the Costa Luminosa ) is for you if you want to sail to destinations like Alaska and Australia. It also offers occasional itineraries through scenic transpacific spots like Fiji, Tahiti, Hawaii, and Japan. The ship has all of the brand’s classic amenities, like the RedFrog Rum Bar and Punchliner Comedy Club, plus an array of dining options, including sushi, pizza, ice cream, and an over-the-top brunch.

Carnival Mardi Gras

Inaugural Year: 2021

Ship Capacity: 5,282 double occupancy; 6,456 total guests

Standout Amenities: BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster for adrenaline junkies; Havana Bar for Cuban drinks and live music; Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse and Brewhouse

Carnival Mardi Gras is a nod to Carnival’s first ship, also named Mardi Gras, which was launched in 1972. The vessel has six onboard zones where families can have fun together, including the Ultimate Playground, where BOLT and the SportsSquare are located. Of course, there’s no Mardi Gras without New Orleans, so the French Quarter zone is where you’ll find Big Easy-inspired amenities like an Emeril Lagasse restaurant.

Carnival Radiance

Inaugural Year: 2021 (formerly Carnival Victory , which set sail in 2000)

Ship Class: Sunshine Class

Ship Capacity: 2,984 double occupancy; 3,873 total guests

Standout Amenities: BlueIguana Tequila Bar for great margaritas; ZSPA for teens who want a spa day; an outdoor gym on the ship's top deck

Carnival Radiance has culinary delights and family fun in spades. If you're a foodie, try Guy’s Burger Joint for loaded burgers straight from Flavortown or Shaq’s Big Chicken for the basketball star's incredible fried chicken sandwiches. Kids will love seeing The Cat in the Hat characters during activities like character parades, story time, and character breakfasts.

Carnival Panorama

Inaugural Year: 2019

Ship Class: Vista Class

Ship Capacity: 4,008 double occupancy; 5,146 total guests

Standout Amenities: Sky Zone trampoline park where families can bounce and play games; Skyride, a suspended bike on the top deck with great ship and ocean views; Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse and Brewhouse featuring Carnival Cruise Line exclusive craft beers

Carnival Panorama is smaller than today's mega-ships, but it packs a ton of fun into its 15 decks. Rooms are spacious; some come with exclusive perks like access to the Havana Pool area or unlimited use of the spa’s thermal suites. Kids will also love that there’s an onboard waterpark, kids club, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop at Sea.

Carnival Sunrise

Ship Capacity: 2,984 double occupancy; 3,973 total guests

Standout Amenities: Cloud 9 Spa cabins with access to the thermal suites; Lucky Bowl restaurant, which is only on Carnival Sunrise and only open for lunch

Carnival Sunrise  (formerly Carnival Triumph ) features an exciting splash zone for kids and a piano bar where adults can sing along to their favorite songs all night. The ship sails on two to five-night and six to nine-night cruises from Miami, Florida, to the Bahamas.

Carnival Horizon

Inaugural Year: 2018

Ship Capacity: 3,960 double occupancy; 4,977 total guests

Standout Amenities: IMAX movie theater for a family night out; Dr. Suess Bookville for family story time and character appearances; volleyball court where adults can test their skills or just hit the ball around

Carnival Horizon has all the makings of a fun family vacation. The kids clubs have dedicated counselors who ensure children are always having fun, and parents can slip away to an adults-only bar for a cocktail or the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat to catch some sun. Then, as night falls, you can come back together for a special meal in the main dining room or JiJi Asian Kitchen, which specializes in regional Asian cuisine.

Carnival Vista

Inaugural Year: 2016

Standout Amenities: The thrilling SkyRide suspended bike for great ship and sea views; Thrill Theater for a 3-D show with water, lighting, wind, and chair movement effects; RedFrog Pub & Brewery, the first brewery at sea in North America

Carnival Vista is perfect for new cruisers. Sailings range from two to nine days out of Port Canaveral, so you can get a taste of what a cruise is like without committing to a more traditional weeklong sailing. Expect an onboard brewery, incredible restaurants, and family-friendly fun.

Carnival Sunshine

Inaugural Year: 2013

Ship Capacity: 3,002 double occupancy; 3,758 total guests

Standout Amenities: Carnival WaterWorks with multiple slides and water features; BlueIguana Tequila Bar for poolside libations; an onboard steakhouse with a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for its exceptional wine list

Carnival Sunshine (formerly Carnival Destiny ) is 10 years old and a fan favorite. The lower guest capacity, at just over 3,000 for double occupancy, means you won’t have to fight hoards of people to get to and from activities. Families who want even more cabin space should book one of the aft-view extended balcony rooms with great wake views and ample private outdoor space.

Carnival Breeze

Inaugural Year: 2012

Ship Class: Dream Class

Ship Capacity: 3,690 double occupancy; 4,724 total guests

Standout Amenities: Cloud 9 Spa for next-level relaxation; Mongolian Wok lunch restaurant; pickleball courts to get competitive with your family; waterslides

Carnival Breeze is ideal for a short cruise out of Galveston, Texas. The ship has plenty of activities throughout the day, including bingo, trivia, and live performances in the comedy club.

Carnival Magic

Inaugural Year: 2011

Ship Capacity: 3,690 double occupancy; 4,724 total guests

Standout Amenities: Cloud 9 Spa; a thrilling ropes course; Chef’s Table dining experience

Carnival Magic sails for a week or more from Miami, Florida. The ship debuted the restaurant Cucina del Capitano, which is now onboard multiple ships in the fleet. It’s also home to the original Guy’s Pig & Anchor. I sailed the Carnival Magic years ago, but I vividly remember spending an entire day enjoying the amenities at the Cloud 9 Spa and eating at the Mongolian Wok quick-service restaurant almost every afternoon for lunch.

Carnival Dream

Inaugural Year: 2009

Ship Capacity: 3,646 double occupancy; 4,631 total guests

Standout Amenities: Ocean Plaza, a multi-use entertainment venue that’s family-friendly during the day and a nightclub after dark; Guy’s Burger Joint for standout smash burgers; Cloud 9 Spa for adults to relax

Carnival Dream is known for exciting entertainment and food and beverage offerings, including Alchemy Bar, a vintage-themed cocktail "pharmacy." The ship sails from Galveston, Texas, on six to nine-day cruises. I loved playing the onboard mini-golf course.

Carnival Splendor

Inaugural Year: 2008

Ship Class: Splendor Class

Ship Capacity: 3,012 double occupancy; 3,734 total guests

Standout Amenities: Masala Tiger Indian restaurant, which is only open for lunch and only on this ship; a mini-golf course; a pool with a retractable cover

Carnival Splendor sails the Southern Hemisphere around Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific on cruises that range from two to 10 days. The ship has Carnival’s only quick-service Indian restaurant and boasts a pool with a retractable roof, so you can swim without worrying about the weather.

Carnival Freedom

Inaugural Year: 2007

Ship Class: Conquest Class

Ship Capacity: 2,980 double occupancy; 3,754 total guests

Standout Amenities: Space Cruisers kids program in partnership with Kennedy Space Center; RedFrog Pub, with Key West-inspired food and drinks; Dr. Seuss Bookville, a kids library that's themed after the famous author’s characters

Carnival Freedom is ideal for first-time cruisers because of the lower guest capacity and the smaller ship size. But don’t let the numbers fool you; this ship is packed with high-energy activities for all ages; from the kid's clubs to the casino, there’s no lack of fun to be had.

Carnival Liberty

Inaugural Year: 2005

Looking to relax? Prefer a high-energy vacation? Carnival Liberty can do it all. Head to the main theater for enchanting live performances and shows every night, enjoy tacos and burgers on the pool decks, or find a lounge chair around the pool and soak up the sun.

Carnival Valor

Inaugural Year: 2004

Ship Capacity: 2,980 double occupancy; 3,756 total guests

Standout Amenities: Dive-in movies where you can catch a family-friendly flick under the stars; BlueIguana Tequila Bar for tequila and Mexican beer-based cocktails; Scarlett’s Steakhouse, where perfect steaks and impeccable sides await

Carnival Valor is almost 20 years old and still showing cruisers a good time. The ship's home ports are New Orleans, Louisiana, and Barcelona, Spain, and it offers two to over 10-night sailings. Don’t miss the epic Seaday Brunch, where you'll find all kinds of treats like huevos rancheros, french toast, loaded burgers, and chicken and waffles.

Carnival Miracle

Ship Capacity: 2,124 double occupancy; 2,680 total guests

Standout Amenities: Serenity Adult-Only Retreat where the 21-plus crowd can enjoy a kid-free space; pickleball courts that have great views of the ocean and ports of call

Fantasy worlds and elements inspired Carnival Miracle . Around the ship, you’ll find spaces like Phantom Lounge and Dr. Frankenstein’s Lab, where you can see shows or dance the night away. When you’re ready to soak up the sun, find a lounge chair at the adults-only pool deck or splash down on one of the slides at WaterWorks.

Carnival Glory

Inaugural Year: 2003

Standout Amenities: Camp Ocean kids club for children ages two to 11; AquaTunnel waterslide; 24-hour pizza delivery to anywhere on the ship

Carnival Glory is a vibrant ship inside and out. Think nightly dance parties in White Heat Dance Club, movies under the stars on the pool deck, and tacos from BlueIguana Cantina. The ship sails around the Bahamas, Caribbean, and more on two to 10-day itineraries.

Carnival Legend

Inaugural Year: 2002

Ship Capacity: 2,124 double occupancy; 2,610 total guests

Standout Amenities: White Hot Night Party; jogging track with panoramic ocean views; Build-A-Bear Workshop at Sea where kids can make a new friend to bring home

Carnival Legend, themed around legends and lore around the world, has two pools and plenty of places to grab a bite, including the Golden Fleece Steakhouse for a stunning multi-course dinner. You're sure to return home with tales.

Carnival Conquest

Standout Amenities: Pickleball courts so you can keep up with weekly family matches; '80s Rock-In-Glow Party for an evening of throwback fun; Guy’s Burger Joint for tasty and quick meals between activities

Carnival Conquest takes cruisers to the Bahamas and the Caribbean on two to 10-day sailings. Special programs allow kids to see their favorite Dr. Seuss characters at sea, and adults can enjoy the enticing Alchemy Bar for one-of-a-kind cocktails.

Carnival Pride

Inaugural Year: 2002

Standout Amenities: Mid-ship pool with a retractable roof; Heroes Tribute Bar, which recognizes each branch of the American military

Carnival Spirit

Inaugural Year: 2001

Ship Capacity: 2,124 double occupancy; 2,610 total guests

Standout Amenities: Domed swimming pool; two-deck fitness center; a pizza window open until 4 a.m.

Carnival Spirit sets sail from home ports around the United States to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal. The ship offers a wide range of entertainment options, including mini-golf, a jogging track, kids clubs, and adult-centric entertainment.

Carnival Paradise

Inaugural Year: 1998

Ship Class: Fantasy Class

Ship Capacity: 2,052 double occupancy; 2,606 total guests

Standout Amenities: Serenity Adult-Only Retreat when you need a place without kids; twin racing waterslides for all ages

With two to nine-day cruises from Tampa to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, Carnival Paradise literally takes cruisers to paradise islands. The ship brims with fun amenities like the WaterWorks splash zone and the relaxing Cloud 9 Spa.

Carnival Elation

Ship Capacity: 2,052 double occupancy; 2,606 total guests

Standout Amenities: Duke’s Piano Bar for nightly sing-a-longs; Alchemy Bar for custom cocktails; BlueIguana Cantina for breakfast and lunch options with a Mexican twist

Carnival Elation is currently the fleet's oldest ship, debuting in March 1998, and the only cruise ship from any cruise line that sails from Jacksonville, Florida. Even though the ship is small, with a total guest capacity of 2,606, it’s ideal for a quick weekend away if you want a mix of relaxation and high-energy activities. I've sailed the most on Carnival Elation since the ship sails from my hometown of Jacksonville. Even though it's the oldest in the fleet, I love that the sailings are short weekend trips where I can sit outside in the sun enjoying a Guy's Burger Joint smash burger before heading inside to see a show or play bingo. And because the ship is so small, it's easy to navigate, and I always end up making friends with the delightful crew onboard.

how old is carnival conquest cruise ship

I was a loyal Carnival cruiser for years until I sailed Celebrity. I'm never going back, especially now that my kids are grown.

  • Between 2012 and 2022, my family and I sailed on nine Carnival cruises .
  • We had fun with Carnival, but the vibes and rowdy children we often saw on board got to us.
  • Celebrity is definitely a more grown-up line, and I prefer its laid-back vibes and offerings.

I fondly remember my family's first cruise — it was with Carnival.

My husband and I took our three children (who were 11, 12, and 13 at the time) on the Carnival Conquest for a seven-day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. We were hooked, and eight more cruises on Carnival followed. The last one, in 2022, was just me and my husband, as my children had grown and were off at college.

Although we had a marvelous time, Carnival wasn't always perfect . We were ready to try something new, especially now that we'd be sailing without kids.

Celebrity is known for catering to adults and offering a more grown-up experience, so when I received an email about a deal for the Celebrity Constellation, I wanted to give it a try. Our experience with Celebrity was so different from our trips with Carnival, and the line feels like a better fit for us at this point in our lives.

Here's why we're saying goodbye to Carnival and sticking with Celebrity.

I loved that there were hardly any kids on the Celebrity cruise

The first thing that struck me about the Celebrity cruise was the quiet — or, rather, the absence of kids running around and screaming.

I knew our ship, the Constellation, was sailing under capacity, but I hardly ever saw children on the ship. At one point, I overheard an officer say there were only six kids on board. Six kids!

It's a different story on Carnival. On every Carnival cruise we've gone on, kids have been everywhere. They'd crowd the pools and hot tubs and some would run wild while their parents played.

To be fair, Carnival  is known for being one of the best budget cruise lines for families — sometimes kids can sail for a dollar . Kids are to be expected.

Because my kids share my quiet nature, they never wanted to attend Carnival's kids' programs or swim in the main, kid-packed pools. Instead, they hung out with us. We explored the ship, read, and played lots of family games.

There are a few adult-only areas on each ship, but the number of kids can feel overwhelming.

In 2022, Carnival updated its code of conduct and pre-boarding emails to cruisers to include a polite reminder for guests to supervise their children and keep noise in the hallways to a minimum .

The energy level on Celebrity was much chiller — cruisers seemed to want to relax more than party

Carnival cruises aren't exactly known for being relaxed — it has a reputation as a high-energy and upbeat line. In my opinion, Carnival's belly-flop and hairy-chest competitions epitomized the party energy on the Carnival cruises I went on. ( Carnival did away with those events in 2022.)

Both ships had nightclubs (Carnival's tended to be open a bit later), but I found that the Celebrity entertainment offerings also seemed to be up my alley, featuring lots of 1970s music. On Carnival ships, I found lots of '90s music and entertainment catering to younger crowds.

I think the music volume on the ships also say a lot about their respective vibes. For me, the volume was just right on Celebrity — no earplugs required. On Carnival ships, I often found myself reaching for my earplugs to avoid the chest-thumping music throughout the ship.

Don't get me wrong — I like to party. And party we did on our Celebrity cruise, mainly by drinking a lot and listening to lots of live music. Even so, the vibe on the Celebrity ship was much more relaxed than our Carnival cruises.

Celebrity can cost a little bit more than Carnival, but I found it to be a better value (especially for drinks)

Our price for the 11-night Celebrity cruise came to about $240 per person per night, and it included all food plus the classic drinks package , which includes "select beers, spirits, cocktails, liqueurs, frozen drinks, and wines by the glass for up to $10 per serving." For drinks over $10, we just paid the difference. Specialty coffee drinks are included in the package, too.

Carnival, on the other hand, does not include drinks in its prices. The price of our last Carnival cruise, a seven-nighter, came out to about $213 per person per night sans drinks.

Celebrity cost us just an extra $27 per person per night, but I assure you, my husband and I drank way more than $27 worth of spirits, wine, and coffee each day.

Speaking of beverages, another bonus — and a big deal to me and my husband — is Celebrity's streamlined drink-buying process. On Carnival, servers usually handed us two tiny receipts with each beverage order — one slip to sign, one to keep. We were so pleased not to have to deal with that process on Celebrity.

On Celebrity, all we had to do was tell the server our room number and show our SeaPass cards so they could see we were on the classic-drinks package. No wet slips of paper or signatures required.

Carnival served us well while our kids were young, but we're Celebrity cruisers now

There are lots of good things to be said about Carnival, and I'm sure it's still a great fit for a lot of people . We've immensely enjoyed most of our cruises with the line, particularly Carnival's New Year's Eve cruises. We boarded those cruises ready to P-A-R-T-Y, and Carnival made it easy.

But we're older now. Our kids have grown and we're ready to sit back and relax. Above all, Celebrity impressed me with its entertainment and perks while eliminating some issues we've always had with Carnival cruises.

At this point, Celebrity ticks all my boxes, so I'm ready to bid farewell to Carnival.

Representatives for Carnival didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

My husband and I were once loyal to Carnival, but Celebrity is a better fit for us these days. Renae Gregoire

Cunard added a 4th luxury cruise ship to its famous fleet — see what it'll be like on the new Queen Anne

  • Cunard  welcomed its fourth ship and newest in 14 years, the 2,996-guest Queen Anne.
  • The 114,000-ton vessel has amenities like an Indian restaurant and pool under a retractable glass roof.
  • Queen Anne's 2024 itineraries, primarily in Europe, start at $300 per person for a two-night cruise.

Insider Today

Cunard has operated 249 ships throughout its 184 years in operation, including the famous Queen Mary and Queen Mary 2. But it's been 14 years since the cruise line has launched a new vessel — until now.

Luxury cruisers , meet Queen Anne. It's Cunard's latest 2,996-guest ship, replete with 4,300 art pieces, archery, and the company's signature high-end flair. Its arrival was so highly anticipated that every cabin on its May 3 maiden voyage was fully reserved in minutes, the BBC reported.

The Carnival Corp. brand may be storied, but that doesn’t mean it’s past its prime.

how old is carnival conquest cruise ship

Katie McAlister, president of Cunard, recently told the BBC that its bookings have grown 25% since the beginning of 2024 and are now the best they've been in a decade.

So it should come as no surprise that several of Queen Anne's 2024 itineraries are almost sold out.

Cunard isn’t in the business of building bigger.

how old is carnival conquest cruise ship

Luxury cruise lines are beloved for their small-ship experience. Cunard is no different.

The new 114,000-ton cruise liner is the company's second-largest, although it can carry more guests than any of its other ships.

However, at a 2,996-guest and 1,225-crew capacity, Queen Anne is still tiny compared to the mass-market cruise industry's newest ships , the largest of which can carry 10,000 people.

Queen Anne's cabins are divided into four categories, listed from most to least luxurious: Queens Grill, Princess Grill, Britannia Club, and Britannia.

Despite being the cheapest option, the Britannia accommodations have high-end amenities like sparkling wine, Penhaligon toiletries, and tea and coffee machines.

That's nothing compared to the most luxurious Queens Grill suites, where guests get amenities like pillow menus, stocked mini-bars, a butler, fruit, and pre-dinner canapes.

Forget the sparkling wine — Queens Grill travelers get a bottle of Champagne.

Cabin categories are especially important for Cunard, not for reasons you might expect.

Besides how luxurious your hotel room at sea is, your cabin influences where you have breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Guests in the Princess Grill suites dine at the Princess Grill restaurant, while Britannia Club guests stick to the Britannia Club restaurant, and so on.

Guests in the higher-end Princess and Queens cabins also get a pretty sweet bonus: an exclusive lounge with infinity hot tubs.

Regardless of your cabin, the 14-deck ship has plenty of areas for all guests to relax under the sun.

For example, the Pavilion. It's one of Queen Anne's go-to places for an afternoon swim, nighttime movie viewing, silent disco, and not-so-silent live music, all under a retractable glass roof.

The ship's pool club also has plenty of lounge seats for a more traditional pool deck experience. For something indoors, head to the drawing and game rooms instead.

Like every new cruise ship, Queen Anne has a pickleball court.

how old is carnival conquest cruise ship

But unlike every new cruise ship, it also has archery — coaches, bows, and arrows included.

Travelers looking for a less intense afternoon can instead try their hand at the putting green, shuffleboard, or quoits.

Not confident in your athletic abilities? Don't worry — there's a bar nearby, too.

If you lose your pickleball match, you can retail therapy your pain away at Queen Anne’s high-end stores.

Travelers have been splurging big on their cruise vacations . On Queen Anne (and with help from one of the ship's personal shoppers), this could include a Bremont watch or Chanel makeup.

Or, do as cruisers do: Eat and drink the pain away.

The ship has 15 eateries. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay extra for the Mediterranean, Indian, Japanese, steakhouse grill, alfresco, and British restaurants.

Thankfully, the food hall-style buffet, room service, and cabin-assigned dining rooms are included in the fare.

Feeling peckish in the afternoon? Afternoon tea is held in the Queens Room, the same venue that hosts events like ballroom dancing and Cunard's signature black-tie galas.

Of course, a cruise wouldn’t be complete without a casino, spa, and nighttime shows.

Queen Anne is showing two new productions, including an adaptation of the classic British film "Brief Encounter."

For more casual entertainment, the ship also has a "show bar" helmed by a variety of musicians and entertainers.

For a more relaxing afternoon, try the spa's cryotherapy, "experience showers," and salt saunas.

Afterwards, to keep the wellness trend going, grab a healthy bite at the veggie and "sustainably sourced protein"-forward Wellness Cafe. Its kombucha bellinis are technically good for you, right?

Cunard is beloved for its regular transatlantic cruises on its Queen Mary 2 ocean liner.

how old is carnival conquest cruise ship

In 2025, Queen Anne will embark on its first three-month around-the-world cruise. However, for the most part, it's not scheduled for repeat long-haul journeys .

Instead, in 2024, the ship will be homeported in Southampton, UK and travel on two- to 19-night itineraries across Europe.

The cheapest way to experience the new ship is a two-night summer cruise from Southampton to Hamburg, Germany, which currently starts at $300 per person.

how old is carnival conquest cruise ship

But if money is no problem, the 18-night roundtrip Hamburg cruise during Christmas and the New Year might pique your interest — and your wallet. The itinerary's luxurious Queens Grill suites start at $19,350 per person.
