About Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era. Her music has won her 5 GRAMMY® Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a nomination for an Academy Award along with dozens of American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She has received accolades as an actress as well including the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award. Janet is a published author, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of biggest-selling artists in popular music history. With sales of over 180 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. She is the record holder for the biggest selling debut tour in history and is the first woman to debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 charts. She also stands as one of only four artists to have a #1 album for four successive decades alongside Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Even today she continues to make an undeniable impact. In 2018, her last single, “Made for Now” with Daddy Yankee, released by her own Rhythm Nation Records, hit #1 on the Dance Clubs Songs chart making it her 20th single on the chart in the span of her career. In 2019, she was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her brothers and in that same year her critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Metamorphosis” closed out to record breaking ticket sales with only 18 dates at the Park MGM’s Park Theater. As reported by Billboard Boxscore, the legendary singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, and actress is among the biggest Vegas performers of this decade, ahead of Celine Dion (2011), Britney Spears (2013) and the Backstreet Boys (2017). Her critically acclaimed and award winning documentary “Janet Jackson.” brought in over 20 million viewers in one week.

On February 4, 2021, Janet Jackson’s iconic mega platinum-selling third album Control turned 35. The album also returned to the top of the charts, hitting #1 on the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart. Led by five chart-busting hit singles — “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “Control,” “When I Think Of You,” —with their complementary, tightly choreographed music videos — and “Let’s Wait Awhile,” Control became Jackson’s first No. 1 Pop album. The album also made Billboard chart history for having the longest continuous run on the Hot 100 with singles from one album, ultimately tallying a remarkable 65 consecutive weeks from that perch. To date, Control has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.

About Chris “Ludacris” Bridges

The career of the multi-talented CHRIS “LUDACRIS” BRIDGES can best be described as remarkable. As a recording artist, he has sold more than 24 million albums worldwide, thanks to the blockbuster success of such singles as “Stand Up,” “Get Back,” “Southern Hospitality,” “Number One Spot,” “Money Maker” and “My Chick Bad.” All of these records were accompanied by ingenious videos that demonstrated Bridges’ far-reaching imagination, and his willingness to stretch the boundaries of what rap videos should look and feel like.

With an unrivaled match of lyrical acumen, wit, and imagery, Ludacris has solidified himself as one of music’s premier entertainers. His versatility and artistic complexity also enabled him to make a seamless transition to acting, including the fan favorite role of “Tej” in Universal Pictures’ box office phenomenon Fast & Furious franchise where he was introduced for the first time in 2003 in 2 Fast 2 Furious.  He will reprise his role of “Tej” for the seventh time in Fast X, which is set to release May 20, 2023.

His other notable feature film credits include Garry Marshall’s ensemble comedy New Year’s Eve, Ivan Reitman’s romantic comedy, No Strings Attached, Paul Higgin’s Crash which received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2006 and Hustle & Flow which earned Bridges a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

As a father of four girls, his latest ventures fittingly include launching his educational platform devoted to the enrichment of children called “KidNation”.  In addition, Bridges created the animated series KARMA’S WORLD which launched in the Top 10 in 42 countries on Netflix, received two NAACP Award nominations and is already on its fourth season.  The series for children ages 6-9 is a coming-of-age story about a young Black girl finding her voice and using it to change her world — originally inspired by Chris’s oldest daughter Karma and based on the interactive educational website of the same name created by Karma’s World Entertainment in 2009.

A consummate businessman, Ludacris is enjoying success outside of entertainment. One of his most successful ventures includes opening his long-anticipated restaurant “Chicken-n-Beer” at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport with a new location opening at LAX in 2023.

Bridge’s philanthropic efforts rival his entertainment accomplishments. He started The Ludacris Foundation in 2001 which focuses on helping the youth in his hometown of Atlanta and has partnered with No Kid Hungry and Feeding America.

After teasing a big announcement on her social channels over the weekend, Janet Jackson revealed that she will be going on tour next year, with Ludacris as the opening act. The dates appear below.

She also promises “There will be new music.”

She also posted a sizzle reel on her socials.

The singer has been more visible in recent months than she has in many years, with an appearance inducting longtime collaborators Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a ceremony held in Los Angeles last month.

She also made headlines with a Lifetime documentary on her life and career , which unpacked the indisputably unfair way she was treated in the wake of her controversial wardrobe malfunction at the 2004 Super Bowl. Jackson’s career suffered in the years that followed, while her co-headliner Justin Timberlake, who actually caused the malfunction, thrived.

The documentary, however, sheds little revealing light on its subject. “Fans will take heart that Jackson is presented here in her best light: That archival footage depicts a talent at the top of her game, and in the present day, she seems serene and happy, with tearful moments punctuating an overall sense of Zen calm,” Variety’s review reads in part. “For now, Jackson remains fascinating but enigmatic — a star about whom we’ll perpetually want to know more. And viewers will have known that before investing the time in a doc that can’t quite figure out its namesake.”

Janet jackson reveals dates, opening act for 2023 ‘together again’ tour.

Janet Jackson is ready to hit the road again.

The musical icon announced dates for her “Together Again” tour next year — her first since 2019.

“You guys, I miss you so much, I am so excited to see you,” she gushed in an Instagram video on Monday about the news.

“You guys have no idea, I’ve missed you so much, so much, and I can’t wait to be with you. I’m so excited.”

The tour will hit 33 cities — including Toronto, Atlantic City, Detroit and Atlanta — across North America beginning on April 14 in Hollywood, Florida.

Rapper Ludacris will be joining her as her opening act and tickets for the show will go on sale starting Dec. 16.

Janet Jackson performs onstage this year.

The tour is named after a song from her 1997 album “The Velvet Rope.”

“The Velvet Rope,” involved themes such same-sex relationships, BDSM, domestic violence and family trauma.

Want to see Janet Jackson live? Her tour calendar with links to buy tickets is here.

“I don’t think [my fans] were expecting it at all because it was completely different from the stuff I had done in the past,” she  told the New Zealand Herald  of the album this past October. “I think it did catch them truly off guard, but … it’s something that I really needed to do for me.”

The LP was a commercial and critical success back in the 1990s, debuting at No. 1 in the US and sold over 4 million copies worldwide.

Janet Jackson performs onstage during the Essence Festival of Culture at the Louisiana Superdome on July 2, 2022 in New Orleans.

The Grammy winner also recently paid tribute to her 1986 “Control” album cover at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last month.

Jackson channeled her retro look by rocking an all-black Christian Siriano outfit. The “Poetic Justice” actress sported a high-collared black-buttoned jacket and matching wide-leg pants. She even wore a wild and curly hairdo similar to her cover.

Siriano, 37, even called Jackson his “ muse ” earlier this year, telling Page Six: “Janet is the most elegant, chic… these new celebs — don’t even start with me — [Janet] is so lovely, thanking me every day. I’m like, ‘You are Janet Jackson. I will make you anything.’

“She’s so lovely and amazing — to post on Instagram and tag me and support me was just so nice. I dress a lot of people and they don’t always do that,” the “Project Runway” alum added.

Concert Review – JANET JACKSON: Together Again Tour

janet jackson together again tour schedule

This past Tuesday night, June 4th, I had the pleasure of seeing the living legend that is Janet Jackson live in concert for the very first time. I’ve been a long-time fan of hers since early 1986, when I fell in love with her break out hit “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, but have never seen one of her shows until now. I saw her at Acrisure Arena, the same Coachella Valley venue where I saw the Eagles, Tears for Fears and Stevie Nicks last year. This show kicked off the second leg of her North American Together Again Tour , which includes 35 shows that will conclude July 30th in Phoenix. Named after Jackson’s 1997 hit “Together Again”, the tour is a sequel to her highly successful 2023 tour of the same name. She’ll be following with a run of shows in Europe later in the year.

Over a storied career spanning more than 40 years, Jackson has released eleven albums, seven of which have reached number one, and 70 singles, ten of which have gone to number one, with another 16 reaching the top 10. She has sold over 180 million records and won a plethora of awards, including five Grammy Awards, eleven American Music Awards, ten MTV Video Music Awards, and eleven Billboard Music Awards.

Opening for her on this tour is American rapper, singer-songwriter and actor Nelly (born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. in Austin, Texas, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri). Now 49, Nelly’s had quite a successful career in his own right, garnering three number one albums and four number one singles during the period of his greatest success between 2000 and 2005. He’s won numerous accolades throughout his career, including three Grammy Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards.

Nelly appeared on stage promptly at 8:00 pm, accompanied by DJ Trife, his half-brother City Spud and four female backup dancers. He wasted no time getting the crowd worked up with his engaging, high-energy stage presence, performing many of his biggest hits, including “Ride Wit Me”, “Country Grammar”, “E.I”, “Dilemma”, and “Hot In Herre”. Between songs, Nelly repeatedly expressed his love and appreciation for his fans, graciously thanking us for following and supporting him over the past 25 years. He closed his 40-minute, eight song set with a rousing performance of fan favorite “Hot In Herre”.

After a 20-minute break, four male dancers in stylish gray suits appeared on stage in front of a huge cylindrical curtain that slowly lifted, revealing Jackson on a raised platform wearing an oversized satin coat resembling a ball gown, as the audience roared with glee. Accompanied by her sexy dancers, she shed the coat and launched into a medley of eight songs starting with “Night” from her 2015 album Unbreakable , followed with a live debut of “2nite” from her 2008 album Discipline . She was backed by a live band who faithfully recreated the superb instrumentation of her many songs. My only complaint, and it’s a minor one, is that the loud, bass-heavy music occasionally overpowered her vocals.

At 58, Jackson looks and sounds as good as ever, effortlessly moving about the stage like someone half her age. The medley of her first set of songs, some of which I did not recognize, ran together in rapid succession until she finally slowed things down with her sultry 1993 hit “That’s the Way Love Goes”. She followed with an electrifying performance of one of my personal favorites “Love Will Never Do (Without You)”, from her massively successful 1989 album Rhythm Nation 1814 .

The elaborate sets and creative lighting effects were outstanding, featuring a dramatic array of brightly-colored laser beams that shone across the arena throughout her show.

janet jackson together again tour schedule

Halfway through her set, Jackson reappeared in a new costume (she wore a total of four different ones) and sat on a stool in the middle of the stage under a large purplish globe, whereupon she sang a medley of her softer ballads “Take Care”, “Let’s Wait Awhile”, “Again” and “Any Time, Any Place”. She then launched into a medley of some of her most upbeat songs, including “Make Me”, “All For You”, “Alright”, “Escapade” and “Miss You Much”. “Escapade”, from Rhythm Nation 1814 , is my all-time favorite song by Jackson, and I’d hoped she would sing in its entirety, however, she truncated the song in the medley, which she followed with “Miss You Much”, another smash hit from the same album. Nevertheless, an enjoyable performance of both songs (notwithstanding a nearby woman loudly singing along).

She continued delivering hit after hit, ending her set with an electrifying performance of one of her signature songs “Rhythm Nation”. Sorry about the person’s hand holding a mobile phone suddenly dominating the video at the end!

At the end of that song’s performance, Jackson profusely thanked the crowd for coming to her show, and she and her dancers left the stage as the lights faded. The audience responded with uproarious cheers and applause, repeatedly shouting for an encore. Jackson and company complied, returning to perform her 2001 hit “Someone To Call My Lover” (which samples the guitar riff from America’s song “Ventura Highway”) and closing with “Together Again”. In all, she sang all or part of 41 songs in a performance lasting one hour and 45 minutes. My husband and I – as well as all other 11,000-plus fans – enjoyed every minute of it!

Wow! What a setlist!

Like Liked by 1 person

Yes, quite a long one, though many were abbreviated versions included in medleys.

That is a great review, pictures and videos. Im very much a casual fan but respect her enormous talent. Well done and great you got a chance to see her.

Thanks Randy. This one took me a while to get done.

I can sort of imagine, if I could write like that – like never!

You’re a terrific writer, so don’t sell yourself short.

You’re too kind Jeff. But you are very much in the moment, its a rare skill.

i am happy for you that you got to see her, and that setlist is huge, even if some songs were short or medleys.

Thanks Cathy. I was so glad she did a show at a venue near me. It’s often an ordeal to make the 2-3 hour drive to L.A. to see a concert.

How cool to get to see one of the best performers and talent of all time! Looks like it was a great show and thanks for sharing the experience with us including some great videos! I am sure you both loved every moment of it except maybe the woman singing along with Janet!

Plus she looks great and has great moves!

Thanks Jeff!

Thanks for reading and commenting Chuck!

Of course! That had to be to be an incredible experience! Glad you got to go!

Yes it was!

Sounds like she still got it. What a formidabble setlist! Great review Jeff.

Thanks Robert. She surely does.

It sounds like you really dig Janet Jackson, so I’m glad you got to see her. Evidently, she’s still in admirable shape.

Except for the occasional song on the radio, I never really listened to her. While I assume I might recognize a couple of her songs, I can’t name any. A 41-song setlist is really impressive. I guess it must have been a decent-length show.

Your videos came out really well. Once I start filming, I rarely zoom in or out since I’m always concerned my phone camera will go out of focus. That said, I have a pretty basic smartphone with only one camera lens. I suppose more advanced technology would make zooming in and out less risky. 🙂

That must have been one amazing show. Just a tad jealous, but I’ll get over it!

It was a blast. She’s playing in Anaheim tonight, so you still have time to see her!

I’m not a fan but I’m glad you are and got a chance to see her at a convenient location! 1:45 minutes is a lot of time for a concert. She surely gave it her all.

Yes she did!

To be honest, Janet Jackson show feels a lot like Michael’s.I commend her overall resistance to Hip Hop craze.

Well, Janet & Michael are from the same musical DNA.

I saw she does drive a nicer car than Michael did.

Not usually my thing but the one song I always liked by her is Together Again. I still can’t believe this is Penny off of Good Times. Jeff so you know…I won’t be on the blogs during the week except weekends until around 3 weeks…work related. That is why I’m behind!

Janet Jackson's Ex-Business Managers Drop $240,000 Lawsuit

Janet Jackson has one less thing to worry about as all charges against her got dropped. The musician recorded a huge win in court after a debt collector ditched their six-figure lawsuit against her.

The Creditors Adjustment Bureau initially sued Janet Jackson and her companies in 2023 for failing to pay $238,593.88 owed to her former management firm for services provided.

Janet Jackson's Owed Balance Was Allegedly Due On February 24, 2021

Court documents filed by the Creditors Adjustment Bureau informed the court on August 3 that the Bureau was dropping all claims against the mother of one.

The body stated that the claims were dismissed with prejudice, which meant that all the details in the case could not be refiled in the future.

The organization sued Janet and her companies Black Doll Inc., Juggernaut Productions, Rhythm Nation, JDJ Entertainment, and Queendom Inc. in Los Angeles Superior Court.

According to them, the Bureau was assigned debt owed to Janet's former business management firm, Nigro Karlin Segal Feldstein & Bolno. She was accused of failing to pay the sum due on February 24, 2021, and demanded to be held for the amount owed plus 10% interest.

The body explained that their efforts to track her down and serve her papers for months had been futile.  In Touch reported that her lawyer clarified and explained that Janet was "a recording artist who resides in London" and had been living in the U.K. on a work permit since 2021.

The Performer Was Finally Served In 2023

However, they finally got through to the artist last October and served her legal papers while she was overseas. Upon receiving the lawsuit, her attorney, Ronald Richards, defended her against the claims, noting that:

"They have been working with a distant former manager who referred a bill to collections that was resolved years ago due to some errors that were made with Ms. Jackson's account."

The lawyer explained that if Janet's case was assigned for collections and they were in court as the assignee, then a shocking surprise awaited them "as the claim is past the statute of limitations and was resolved years ago before the firm was bought out ."

Janet's legal team promised to file a cross-complaint against the actual management firm, noting that their action would backfire on them if they actually filed a complaint.  He added, "When parties have weak claims, they assign them to collection to avoid the legal fee expenses.

"Janet Jackson pays all of her vendors and holds them to a high standard of care. She will not pay for managers that do not perform according to the contract or have charged her for fees improperly, " Richards explained.

A lawyer representing her companies also argued that the Bureau had "refused, failed, and/or neglected to mitigate its alleged damages, and therefore, cannot recover against Defendants, whether as alleged or otherwise."

Janet Jackson's Working Relationship With Her Business Managers

The Blast reported that Janet entered into a business management services agreement with David Weise and Associates in August 2017.

The company tagged itself as one of the "largest management firms in the country, " adding that it is no stranger to working with entertainers and celebrities.

"We work alongside the world's top artists in music, film, and television, as well as athletes, executives, entrepreneurs, and other high achievers, offering a sophisticated range of concierge-style services to meet their lifestyle management needs, " they continued.

They accused her of defaulting on paying the full amount for their contribution to her career advancement.

The Celebrity Was Embroiled In Another Lawsuit In 2018

Janet was named in another lawsuit in 2018, in which she and her brother, Randy Jackson, were accused of owing her former manager, Danny O'Donovan.

According to Donovan, the siblings hired him in 2016 as the "State of the World Tour " and agreed to pay him $250,000 monthly as he worked for 17 months. manager

The former manager claimed that everything went smoothly for the first five months, with payments being made on time, but soon after, the money stopped coming.

According to Donovan, the pause continued for one more year, which led to his demanding $300,000 in compensation.

Janet Jackson Broke Major Record On Her 'Together Again ' Tour

The musician's tour began on April 24, 2023, in Hollywood, Florida, and The Blast noted that  she broke her personal earnings record by raking in a whopping $51 million from 479K tickets sold.

The sterling achievement cements her reputation as a music industry giant and is a testament to her enduring popularity and talent.

The tour exceeded her 2001/2002 "All For You " tour record of $47 million. It also surpassed the per-show attendance of the "All for You " Tour, the "Velvet Rope " Tour in 1997-1998, and the "Janet World Tour " (1993-1994) by averaging about 13,000 attendees per show.

The tickets also averaged about $106.13 for each ticket, which sold 7% less than her 81-date "Number Ones, Up Close and Personal " World Tour (2011) and 15% more than her 16-date "Rock Witchu " Tour in 2008.

The "Together Again " tour will reportedly wrap up in Glasglow, Scotland, on October 13, 2024, which means Janet Jackson gets to finish off with zero legal baggage!
