Top 5 airlines serving from tokyo to bangkok.

Extra seat belt across the chest 10 minutes before taking off and 15 minutes before landing seemed excessively safe.

The transfer from Domestic and International was a bit confusing but I am easily confused. I did not eat any food, but the food on the other leg was decent. It was nice they turned the lights off on the night flight. The plane was in good shape, but was a little cramped in economy and I am small. They gave me a customs form to fill out and nobody looked at it as I went through customs. Not a bad flight.

We are satisfied with the cabin crew serviceand the quality of meals served.

Lunch Food was tasteful and had variety. Seat was comfortable. However, when I was reserving my seats during booking, the seat configuration showed was 3-3-3, but when I boarded it was a 2-4-2 configuration? Also during booking, I had also bought travel insurance together with my TG booking. However there was no confirmation of my purchase from Allianz and TG. After several emails with TG contact, sales, reservation and Allianz was i able to confirm my insurance purchase. When the policy was issued, the birth dates of me and my wife were wrongly stated and I had to go through another round of emails with Allianz to get it corrected. Otherwise any claims would be void! It was indeed not a very good booking experience!

Check in was a disaster. 90 minutes and only 2 economy check in desks open. Had to rush to catch the flight.

I couldnt go on this flight and lost all my money over 1,000 UK Pounds as my visa to Myanmar was not accepted :(

Thai Airways is one of the best airlines in the business. Looking forward to fly again with them.

After going back and forth with the airline, they never reimbursed the airline tickets. Went around asking multiple people how to get reimbursed and kept getting put back, not satisfied with their customer service.

No working jet bridge to deplane, with priority customers deplaning last. Followed by bus to terminal.

Efficient like all the other flights with them. An outstanding budget airline!

Nice service. I wish it could provide hot water on the flight.

internet didn't work. No offer of drinks or snacks.

Flight was seamless. Free wifi helped pass the time. Food was okay, just make sure you pre order or pick something up from the airport

Internet connection very poor, means you can not even order items through their own shop.

Paid for business class lay flat seat. Significantly less comfortable than other carriers. No built in entertainment or WiFi. I barely saw flight attendants at all and they wanted to charge me for a bottle of water if i wanted more than what came with the meal (that i also paid extra for). Essentially you’re just paying for a slightly more comfortable seat than the rest of the plane and nothing else

Wifi could have been better. Arrived 55 mins earlier than scheduled :)

Best part are two crying babies throughout the whole 11 hour trip

Clean and comfortable cabin. Friendly on board service. No vegetarian food options and movie options were very limited. Internet was very slow

I didn’t eat the food but there wasn’t an option. Seat was a little too small for me but everything else was great

Good airline for the price. The Air stewardess are great, nothing is to much trouble. Will use again.

The flight was cancelled without any reason. But the next flight to Shanghai has to be cancelled to pay penalty.

Gatwick London-Shanghai -Bangkok.. Would have liked entertainment screens, but I know these planes are not that new. Cheap flights at the time of booking, Emirates wanted double so you get what you paid for. I would fly again with them, but if Emirates was the same price I would go with them.

The landings were smooth . Being unable to check-in online was terribly stressful and the queue at Haneda exemely long. We paid extra for window seats and did not get them.

How do you run out of beer after one hour of a twelve hour flight?!

You’re in the three parts of my life, the China Eastern air crew remembered and wish me happy birthday. I was given pastries on two different occasions and a complementary drink. The stew is wish me happy birthday and gave me a birthday card. Everything was first class. Thank you.

Again, I was presented with birthday pastries two times as a celebrated my birthday on both legs of my trip. I will keep flying to China using China Eastern airlines. As they made this trip a special one thank you.

Couldn’t fly since they wouldn’t issue a boarding ticket. Something to do with not taking the departing flight since it was cancelled due to weather. No notice or anything about the trip being invalid. The app made it seem like I was all good for it. Never trusting travel agency

2 hours delay on the 1st plane out of the day!!!!!

No snacks meal or drinks for 9hr flight, no entertainment options. Crew appeared tired, irritable. It's apparently a budget airline, they make sure it feels that way.

First time of flying with Air Asia and great choice

Don't even offer water on a 5 and half hours flight. Its laughable one have to rent a blanket.

No free water. Water cost money in a currency that I didn’t have.

Pay for food on an almost 6 hour flight. Very tight space, I had to show my boarding pass for the food I paid and the blanket set. I had an online boarding pass, that didn’t work, I had to take out the printed boarding pass out of the overhead locker whilst my neighbour was eating, as I was sitting in a Center seat. The staff was very friendly and got my bag out but it didn’t make sense. As the online boarding pass was enough for the blanket set. But not for the food. Just to make a check on the piece of paper. I had a warm free meal on an one hour flight from BKK to Samui with Bangkok airways. So airasia just tries to save money where they can.

How to Plan a Trip to Japan and Thailand

For first time travelers to Asia, Japan and Thailand are top destinations on the list. There, you can get close to Eastern culture and enjoy a relaxed holiday atmosphere.

In Japan you can see beautiful geishas in kimonos, spectacular Mount Fuji, stay at a traditional ryokan (inn) with an onsen (hot spring bath) and sample delicious food. In Thailand , you can have a close encounter with elephants, relaxing on the fabulous islands of Phuket, and experience a flourishing floating market.

In this article, we are going to look at how to plan your first tour of Japan and Thailand.

 • 1. What to See in Japan and Thailand
 • 2. How Much Does It Cost?
 • 3. Best Time to Travel
 • 4. How Long Should I Spend ?
 • 5. Do I Need a Visa ?

1. What to See in Japan and Thailand?

Both Japan and Thailand have fascinating attractions and unique experiences that are suitable for a big trip (family vacation, anniversary, birthday...).

Top Things to Do in Japan:

 • Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka are must-see cities for a first trip to Japan.

1) Experience the perfect blend of history and modernity in Tokyo: visit Sensoji Temple to feel the vibe of the Edo Period (1603–1867), make sushi at a local home, meet your children's interest in anime or spend a happy day in Disneyland, have a close-up visit to the spectacular Mount Fuji, and have a day trip to Hakone for onsen bathing.

2) Immerse yourself in the strong traditional atmosphere of Kyoto: see beautiful geishas and have an afternoon tea with them, visit shrines with a venerated vibe, try on kimonos for a memorable family photo, stay in ryokan traditional Japanese accommodation, and feed friendly deer in Nara.

3) In the prosperous port city of Osaka , you can sample street food like takoyaki (octopus ball), make cup noodles based on your preferences at Cup Noodle Museum and enjoy family time in Universal Studios.

Top Things to Do in Thailand:

 • Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket are top cities for first time trip in Thailand.

1) Feel the combination of Buddhist tradition and lively modern times in Bangkok: explore the vibrant night markets with a tuk-tuk ride, taste delicious Thai food, get an insight into a bygone way of life in the floating markets, take a Chao Phraya River cruise to take in the charming night views, and have a nice romantic meal in a rooftop restaurant.

2) Chiang Mai is the most popular northern destination in Thailand , where you can have a close encounter with elephants, enjoy the surrounding countryside by bike, and participate in a Thai cooking class with your family. If you visit in November, don't miss the romantic Yi Peng Lantern Festival .

3) Visit at least one wonderful Thai island: Phuket is loved by families for its exciting activities and family-friendly hotels, while Koh Samui is perfect for couples with its luxury resorts and romantic vibe. It's better to go to the islands during the dry season, so we suggest you visit Koh Samui from January to August and go to Phuket from December to April.

2. How Much Does It Cost to Tour Japan and Thailand?

A private tour in Thailand is an affordable luxury, about US$200–250 per day per person. The cost in Japan is double than of Thailand. Prices can double again during cherry blossom season and Christmas, so we suggest that you book flights and hotels at least 6 months in advance during this period.

Ryokans are a worth a night's stay to try out traditional Japanese accommodation. They cost around US$300–450 per night, and floating houses in Thailand cost US$150–300 per night.

Direct flights from Tokyo or Osaka to Bangkok takes about six hours and cost between US$400-900.

We promise you a 100% refund of any payments made to Asia Highlights up to 3 weeks before departure ( details⇒ ).

3. When Is the Best Time to Travel to Japan and Thailand?

The best time to visit both Japan and Thailand is March, early April and November, when the two countries are at their most comfortable times weatherwise, with less rain and suitable temperatures. Christmas and New Year is the busiest period in both countries, so you're suggested to book flights and hotels at least 6 months in advance for this period.

April to May is a transitional time in both countries. You can see cherry blossoms in Japan as temperatures warm in spring, and have fun at the Water-Sprinkling Festival in Thailand in the mid-April hot time before the wet season comes. >>> How to Plan a Japan Cherry Blossom Trip

It's hot and rainy from June to August, but it needn't affect your trip. In Japan, there are plenty of air-conditioned facilities offering urban/cultural experiences, and rain often falls in the afternoon in Thailand, leaving plenty of opportunity to dodge the rain with touring.

September and October are rainiest, but only when typhoons land, in Japan, which otherwise is pleasantly warm/mild. Meanwhile, the typhoon season also strikes in Thailand, bringing harder but less frequent downpours, while hot/warm conditions prevail.

December to February is the warm, dry season and best time to visit Thailand. In Japan, it's cold, but you can go skiing and see snowy scenery in the north. >>> How to Plan a Family Ski Holiday in Japan

4. How Long to Spend in Japan and Thailand?

A memorable trip with all the must-sees in both countries takes at least 2 weeks: 7–9 days in Japan and 7–10 days in Thailand.

We recommend that an ideal route should be from hardest to easiest. Japan is a culturally-rich country that requires more of your engagement, while Thailand is a good place to relax more after Japan. Below is a classic Japan-Thailand itinerary for your inspiration.

 • Days 1–3 Tokyo, Japan (samurai, anime, making sushi, Asakusa old district...)
 • Days 4–6 Kyoto (geisha, ryokan, feed deer in Nara, sample sake...)
 • Day 7 Osaka and fly to Bangkok in Thailand
 • Days 8–10 Bangkok (Wat Pho, Grand Palace, floating market...)
 • Days 11–13 Chiang Mai (Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, Thai cooking class, food tour)
 • Days 14–16 Phuket beach time and departure

Let us help you plan your trip! Contact us and we will create a trip based on your group size, time, budget, interests, and other requirements.

5. Do I Need a Visa for a Japan and Thailand Trip?

Nationals of many countries are exempt from needing a visa to enter Japan and Thailand , including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Most travelers can stay in Japan without a visa for 90 days and in Thailand for 30 days.

The Japanese government has required all travelers to complete the entry express clearance by filling out the information on the online Visit Japan Web (VJW). It may take you one hour or more to complete the procedure. To save time waiting for customs clearance at the airport, we suggest completing the procedures at least 6 hours to 2 weeks before the scheduled arrival time of the flight in Japan.

Click on Visit Japan Web to fill in the information. One account can be used to fill in the information for up to 10 family members.

Festivals in Asia are something that needs to be experienced.

Now you can easily get them in the States, festivals in Europe that reach back hundreds of years, and beautiful celebrations in Central and South America.

But Asia is covered with festivals in every country all year round.

And while there are hundreds of them, I wanted to focus on just a few that stand out amongst the others.

These are the ones that are going on my bucket list.

They have so many colors, beauty, culture, and incredible traditions.

They’re the kind of festivals that you make sure happen because you don’t wanna go a lifetime without experiencing them.

When Does it Happen? July.

In 1998, a festival was started as a way to promote the Boryeong mineral-rich muds. 1. Mud Festival – South Korea

When Does it Happen? July.

In 1998, a festival was started as a way to promote the Boryeong mineral-rich muds. But after a successful first run, the festival became a hit and was then made as an annual celebration.

People can come to Boryeong to lounge and relax on the beach, or they can come to have fun in the crazy inflatable water/mud slides, mud wrestling, and mud races.

But if you’re looking to be a bit more laid back, thankfully there are activities that aren’t as intense. You can opt for body painting, mud facials, and other fun activities that take place at the fair.

Important Note: Pop stars from around the world will perform at the festival. Keep your eyes open for anyone famous, and make sure to enjoy the fireworks, cultural performances, and parades.

Some people get their water from the river which is not clean to drink, so just be sure to close your mouth as they douse you. Another thing to look for are people with buckets of ice or water with ice. Having ice throne on or at you can be painful, so keep an eye out. Thankfully, this rarely happens.

2. Songkran – Thailand

This is basically the world’s biggest water fight.

People of all ages come out on this day with…

 • Water cannons
 • Water hoses
 • And buckets full of water

It doesn’t matter if you’re just passing by on a moped through the city, you will get splashed and doused.

Japan surpasses Thailand to top China’s Golden Week travel list

The weak yen is luring Chinese tourists back to Japan, which polls show will be the most popular destination country during China’s upcoming national holidays in early May.

According to Ctrip, China’s largest online travel agency, Japan beat Thailand and South Korea in attracting Chinese tourists during China’s five-day Golden Week holidays, which start on May 1.

On Airbnb, a homestay booking platform, Japan was also the most searched for destination among Chinese users this spring.

On both platforms, Thailand held the top spot for the Chinese New Year holidays in February.

Japan’s surge in popularity this spring was driven by the combination of the cherry blossom season and the weak yen.

A visa agent in Shanghai targeting visitors to Japan said that inquiries have increased since March.

“The visa screening process, which was tightened during the COVID-19 pandemic, has also returned to normal,” the agent said. “Japan has always been a popular destination, and the flights during the holidays are almost full.”

Chinese tourists, who accounted for 30 percent of all visitors to Japan before the pandemic, have been slow to return even after the ban on group tours from China was lifted in the summer of 2023.

Even in February, when the overall number of visitors to Japan exceeded pre-pandemic levels, the number of Chinese visitors remained just 63.5 percent of those from the same month in 2019, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization.

That percentage stayed almost unchanged at 65.4 percent, or 452,400 Chinese visitors, in March.

It is believed that Chinese tourists have instead been traveling to Southeast Asian countries, particularly Thailand, which has waived visa requirements for short-term Chinese visitors.

Even so, the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai remains optimistic.

“The number of visas issued is increasing and is gradually returning to pre-pandemic levels,” said a consulate official, noting that many repeat visitors who have previously visited Kyoto, Nara and other well-known destinations are now venturing into regional cities.

The official attributed Japan’s continued popularity to the favorable exchange rate and the presence of these repeat visitors.

On Ctrip’s list of most popular holiday destinations for Chinese tourists, Japan was followed by Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, the United States, Indonesia, Australia, France and Vietnam, in that order.
