Explore Karla and Bhaja caves, a group of rock-cut caves dating back from the 2nd century B.C. to the 5th century A.D. with transport from Mumbai.

The caves are a marvellous architectural feat. All 109 of them were chiseled and carved out of a huge basaltic rock outcrop. The smaller caves, known as viharas, served as resting places for the monks. The larger caves, known as chaityas, are lined with various exquisitely carved Buddhist sculptures and were commonly used as places for worship.

In the main hall stands the towering figure of the Lord Buddha measuring about 7 meters in height. The interior has a colonnade of 34 majestically carved pillars. The eleven-headed Avalokiteshwara is the most distinctive motif. There are about 100 inscriptions in different scripts – Brahmi, Devnagri, Pallavi and Sanskrit.

After an hour long boat ride to Elephanta Island from the Gateway of India, explore the magnificent caves. The outer caves were used as a place of Hindu worship until Portuguese rule was established. The caves further in are smaller and are Buddhist caves.

The main cave, otherwise known as the Shiva Cave, contains numerous carvings throughout depicting various aspects of Lord Shiva including his wedding, his slaying of Andhaka and more. There will also be a sculpture of the Trimurti in the main cave that is approximately 20 feet tall.

There was a lot of distance covered both within three national parks and along the treacherous roads in-between. We were fortunate to have been provided with an excellent driver who was equal to the many challenges. A nice touch was the superbly guided tour of Mumbai on our first day in India providing a good grounding into the history and culture if India whilst offering a brief opportunity to recover from our long journey from Australia. It was an Amazing tour, we had an encounter with a Lion at Gir, it was just 50 meters away, uhhh. Then we visited Kanha and Bandhavgarh and we were very lucky to watch 2 tigers at Bandhavgarh. The trip was an amazing experience and everything was well managed by Varun, he was in touch with us throughout the trip and it made us comfortable to book another trip with Alkof Holidays. Premium India in Depth

Intrepid Premium India in Depth (November 13 - 25) Mumbai - Delhi Excellent tour leader along with very good local informative guides. 3 changes in accommodation; Mumbai - Gordon House Hotel is excellent, well priced and only 1 street back from Gateway to India but the company changed to Fariyas Hotel, Mumbai which was been renovated as well as painted so very noisy, couldn't use the pool and scaffolding all around. Definitely not ideal. Our second night in Delhi was also cancelled at Jaypee Siddharth Hotel though privately booked and paid for months before the tour so had to find alternative accommodation while on the tour and they told the travel agents they were "closed for renovations" however the tour was booked and stayed there and no renovations were occuring. Hadoti Palace Hotel in Bundi looked nice and rooms were big but not clean especially the toilet and shower. Otherwise all hotels were very nice and rated accurately; cleaning the showers/washrooms would have helped with the mouldy smell but that is somewhat consistent in most countries. November is the start of wedding season in India which are very loud and noisy and have no time restrictions so be prepared for that if going at this time of year. Tour involves quite a number of days travelling in a bus/coach for 4 - 6 hours with a stop every 2 - 3 hours. Rest stops are OK at best with only snack food to purchase. Adjusting the departure time would have helped with timeframes as quite a few days we were getting lunch around 2 - 3 pm when hotel kitchens were closed. Definitely not enough free time for shopping on your own with organized evenings most nights or in a venue on the outside of towns. Toured the markets but they were only a walk through with the group and no time to stop and shop. Restaurants and food was amazing and no one was unwell on the trip. 2 days in Ranthambhore Park was too long and could have done in 1.5 days with more time in Agra. Overall a very good trip for myself and my father (aged 79).

No words to says about embark on the ultimate Tiger safari in India from Mumbai and it was an experience I will never forget. From the bustling city of Mumbai, I journeyed to the wild and untamed forests of central India in search of the majestic Bengal tiger. The safari began with a flight from Mumbai to Nagpur, where I was greeted by my friendly and knowledgeable guide. From there, we drove to the famous Tadoba National Park, home to one of the largest tiger populations in India. As we entered the park, I could already feel the excitement building up inside me. The safari jeep was well-equipped and our guide made sure we were all comfortable before we set off on our adventure. The first thing that struck me was the sheer beauty of the park – vast, lush green forests, winding rivers, and picturesque landscapes – it was like something out of a movie. As we drove deeper into the park, our guide pointed out various species of birds, deer, and other animals. But of course, the main attraction was the elusive Bengal tiger. We patiently waited and scanned the area for any signs of movement, and just when I was starting to lose hope, we spotted the unmistakable orange and black stripes of a tiger. It was a breathtaking sight – the king of the jungle in all its glory. We followed the tiger as it leisurely walked through the forest, occasionally stopping to take a drink of water or rest in the shade. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the behavior of these animals and he shared interesting facts and stories about each tiger we encountered. Over the course of the safari, we were lucky enough to spot several more tigers, each one as magnificent as the last. We also saw other wildlife such as leopards, sloth bears, and wild dogs – making it a truly unforgettable experience. Apart from the safari, the accommodations and food were also top-notch. We stayed in a comfortable jungle lodge, surrounded by nature and with all the necessary amenities. The local cuisine was delicious and I got to try some traditional dishes that I had never tasted before. ultimate Tiger safari in India from Mumbai was an incredible adventure that I would highly recommend to anyone. It not only allowed me to see these magnificent animals up close, but it also gave me a newfound appreciation for the importance of conservation and preserving these beautiful creatures for future generations to see. I cannot wait to go back and experience it all over again.

We originally searched with TourRadar and determined that the 6 day Golden Triangle Tour offered by Adreva Trotter Pvt. Ltd. (INDIA Trotter) offered the best tour for our needs. However, with the time we had available (10 days), we contacted the company with the request for additional time in Delhi and a modification of the tour start/end dates as well as requiring the tour to start/end in Mumbai. The company was very flexible, designing a private tour specifically to our requests. The tour included all transfers, great hotels, modern transport, in country flights, and most importantly, extremely competent drivers and qualified guides proficient in English. Their communication with clients was exceptional, providing our detailed itinerary on line for us to access at any time, daily contact via WhatsApp, along with meeting points, names and phone numbers of all drivers and guides in advance. One incident that really demonstrated their support became evident when we arrived in Mumbai...and our luggage did not. To complicate matters, we were flying to Delhi later that day, well before our luggage was to arrive. The staff at INDIA Trotter took all our contact information with the airline and the lost luggage department at the airport and pursued all avenues with them on our behalf, providing a level of support far beyond our expectations with daily updates on progress. I am sure that because of their efforts, our luggage was returned to us as quickly as possible. Airlines could learn a lot from INDIA Trotter with respect to customer service and efficiency. To summarize I would say that INDIA Trotter provided a level of personal comfort throughout the tour with unparalleled communication and support. We never felt that we were on our own while travelling in a foreign country...we had a caring team working with us at all times.
