1. Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary  

Bring out your best camera lenses because Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is the first place you need to be. Home to some of the rare and endangered wildlife species, you can spot Bengal Tigers, Indian Leopard and Indian elephants here.

The forests of this wildlife sanctuary are dense, which adds to the thrill of tiger sightings. Many visitors have spotted leopards and tigers very close to their safari jeeps. There are two different kinds of safaris available here. The van safari that will take you through the dense forests is scheduled between 6:30 and 9 AM in the morning and between 3:30 and 6:00 PM in the evening. The elephant safari timings are between 7:00 and 8:30 AM as well as between 3:30 and 5:00 PM.

Pro Tip: Go for the morning safari to spot some rare birds and animals.

2. Moyar River

A tributary to the Bhavani River , the Moyar river originates from a town named Moyar . Being very close to the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, you can spot many animals including tigers and elephants who come near the river to quench their thirst. 4. Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta 

Betta means hill in Kannada. Located at a height of 1454 metres above sea level, this is the peak is situated in Bandipur National Park . Bandipur national park is a tiger reserve and also home to some 3000 elephants . You can reach the top of this hill by safari jeep. There is a narrow lane that will take you through the woods and the hilly terrain.

About Masinagudi

Masinagudi is a small hill station in Tamil Nadu state that offers untouched and unhindered nature to explore. Masinagudi lies near Ooty on the foothills of Nilgiri mountains at the edge of Mudumalai and Bandipur national parks.

The most famous activity is to observe the training sessions of Elephants at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp. Also visit the Mudumalai national park to see some of the rare animals and birds. Also visit the Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta temple to satiate your desire of connecting to God. A perfect spot to enthrall oneself with bird watching as well as admiring the lush green tea plantations in the surroundings.

Masinagudi is a superb offbeat weekend destination for people of Bangalore but increasingly getting popular. Is lies 240 Kms from Bangalore, 580 Kms from Chennai and only 113 Kms from Coimbatore. Ooty is further 30 Kms from here. If you are planning to go for wildlife safari in Bandipur or Mudumalai then check which gate is nearest to your hotel or resort. Masinagudi has good access by road. The easiest way to reach Masinagudi would be by boarding a train to either Mysore or Coimbatore and then hiring a cab to Masinagudi.

Take a flight to the Coimbatore International Airport from Chennai , Mumbai , New Delhi , Ahmedabad , Bengaluru or Hyderabad or from Singapore , UAE and Sri Lanka . Hire a cab from the airport to Masinagudi.

Coimbatore Junction Railway Station serves a number of major cities from across the country whereas Mysore Railway Station has trains coming in from Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai. You can travel to either of these cities and fix up a cab from the railway station to Masinagudi.

Masinagudi on the Ooty – Mysore route has easy access by road from all major cities of Tamil Nadu and from the neighbouring states of Kerala and Karnataka as well. The ideal way to travel to Masinagudi would be by car.

Getting Around:

Resorts might help arrange for vehicles and a guide, though otherwise there are places you can drive to yourself, while Mudumalai and Bandipur trips have safaris for getting around within the jungle.
