Manchester United head to the US this summer to play in Los Angeles, Denver, Washington, Michigan and possibly Miami in the International Champions Cup.

The tournament features Real Madrid, Liverpool, AC Milan, AS Roma, Inter, Olympiacos and Manchester City, although United won't face City unless both reach the Miami final.

The Reds will showcase new signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw - and all eyes will be on new boss Louis van Gaal as he reshapes the team after a miserable season under David Moyes.

Review | Manchester United Museum & Stadium Tour! How Good is it?

Categories England , Manchester , U.K

Manchester United and Old Trafford are one of the most famous teams and stadiums in the world, so it’s pretty cool that you can really easily book and go on an Old Trafford Stadium Tour and visit the Manchester United Museum.

In fact, doing a tour of Manchester United stadium is probably even easier than you think, they literally have time slots available all day when matches are not on and the tickets are not that expensive either.

I went recently with my stepsons who are 6 & 8 and we had a great time! I realised I couldn’t move to Manchester and not visit the legendary Manchester United Stadium and even as a non-supporter (although I left feeling like a supporter), I had goosebumps throughout because of all that we saw on the Man Utd Stadium Tour.

So let me tell you how to book a Manchester United stadium tour, the Old Trafford tour price, what to expect from a Man Utd tour and answer the question ‘is a Manchester United Tour good?’

Manchester United Tour Tickets

Let’s start with how to get Manchester Utd tour tickets and how much they cost! Luckily, they are easier to get than match tickets!

I booked our tickets through Get Your Guide which is a booking platform I use a lot and trust!

Booking these tickets makes it really easy to check stadium tour availability by each day and time, they don’t charge any extra, AND you get free cancellation up to 24 hours before you book which is really helpful!

Manchester United Tour Ticket Prices:

Adult: £27.00

Child 5-15: £15.00

Child 4 & under: Free

Senior 65+: £15.00

What does the Manchester United Tour Ticket include?

The ticket gives access to the Manchester United Museum which you can visit in your own time, and it gives you a 70-minute tour of the stadium with a guide .

Souvenir wise, you are given a branded lanyard when you show your tickets where the ticket goes inside, this can be taken home with you and therefore acts as a bit of a free souvenir .

What To Expect from an Old Trafford Stadium Tour

When you book your ticket online you’ll get an email confirmation to say you must get there 30 minutes before the start time , this is something to keep in mind when planning your Manchester day out!

The reason you are asked to get there early is mainly so you have time to visit the museum before the tour starts and the time you book the tour for is the time your group guided tour starts.

If you don’t get there just on time, then you can do the guided tour and visit the museum at the end.

Manchester United Stadium Tour Parking

The only car park at Old Trafford Stadium open on non-match days is East Car Park E2 ( google maps location here ) so you have to head here. When I visited it the entrance was manned, the super friendly guys told me where to park and there are plenty of disabled access spaces.

The car park is at the front of the stadium and where the Megastore is located.

To get to the museum and where the guided Manchester United tour starts you follow the path around to the right, following the arrow signs to the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand Entrance .

Manchester United Stadium Tour, Path to Sir Alex Ferguson Stand

Here you’ll get a security scan, queue up inside, show your online ticket and be given a paper ticket and lanyard.

Then you go upstairs towards the Man Utd Museum and by Red Cafe at Old Trafford which is a great place to go back to after the tour has finished.

Manchester United Museum

In order to get to where the Manchester Stadium tour starts you have to go through the museum. This is why you’ll get email confirmation telling you to get to the stadium 30 minutes before your ticket time because the time on your ticket is the literal time your guided tour starts you need to be at the end of the museum and meet your guide.

As we entered the museum we could choose to get a photo with a green screen background which could then be purchased at the end.

This was pretty cool as at the end of the tour in the Megastore you can see the photo and pick the different backgrounds , there was a sunset stadium background, normal stadium background and you could choose which player was next to you, of course, we had to get a photo with Ronaldo printed!

Manchester United Stadium Tour, Museum

Walking through the museum doesn’t take long but if you don’t have time or want to spend more time looking, you can return at the end of the tour as there are no time restrictions on access to Old Trafford Museum.

The museum is really interesting though and you should give yourself at least 20 minutes to look around.

Ready to check availability and book tickets? Do it here!

Tours start every 10-15 minutes and staff will be calling your ticket time so make sure you listen out and head to the end of the museum which is downstairs. Then go to the counter and collect a multimedia device for each person which had a lanyard to go around our necks.

This is used at various points on the tour to watch a video or read more about where you are, this is especially good for visitors who do not understand English well and can’t understand what the guide is saying as the multimedia device can be set in multiple languages. Or those hard at hearing who can’t hear the guide.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, Multimedia guide

Our group was pretty big at about 20 people but it never felt too big.

Our guide introduced himself to start off the 70-minute tour and told us a bit about what to expect from the tour and the multimedia devices. We had 2 guides , one who stayed at the front and did all of the explaining and another who stayed at the back to ensure we all stayed together, both were available to chat to as we walked around the stadium from place to place.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, start of tour in stadium

To start the tour off properly we went up into the stadium , this is where the multimedia devices were really cool and this was probably their best use. Of course, the stadium was empty but with the devices, it showed what it looks like busy and it followed the stadium as we moved the device around to different parts of the stadium.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, multimedia guide showing stadium full

We went back inside and to be honest, we did spend a fair amount of time inside the stadium walking under the seats to get to another part of the stadium. Definitely keep this in mind if you have small children with you who don’t like walking much.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, walking inside stadium

We had some good photo opportunities and the first one started as we were in the corner of the stadium where the disabled seating is, this spot gives a really great corner view of the stadium and there is plenty of space to spread out and get photos with no one in the background.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, corner photo of pitch

We went back inside again and walked for a while and this is when we got to probably the best bit of the tour – the changing rooms !

It was really cool to be in a part of the stadium where usually only the players go and seeing all of the shirts in the changing rooms was definitely a highlight.

We had plenty of time in here to take photos and everyone was really good at queuing for the seats, of course, Ronaldo was a popular one, and let each other take photos. It was busy in the room with all of us in but not too bad.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, inside players changing room

We walked out the way the players would to the tunnel . This was the most interactive part of the tour because the guide got all the kids to line up in 2 lines and the parents/adults to start on the side and then we clapped them out onto the edge of the pitch.

Some of the kids on my tour were really big football fans and they loved this.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, inside players tunnel

At the end of the tunnel, we got to start right by the pitch in the corner which was the corner between the West Stand and Sir Bobby Charlton Stand and again take some photos, these photos were better because we had the grass right behind us.

Then, we walked up the side of the pitch to the dugout , we were allowed to sit on the manager’s seats which was also a very cool and unique opportunity.

I also loved seeing the pitch front on from this level and got some great photos.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, walking up side of pitch on tour

Down the side of the dugout, we walked to the media and press room , again this was another cool opportunity and we could sit at the media table and have photos taken, except this photo had to be done by somewhere working there and the photo had to be purchased .

This was the only part of the tour where we were restricted from taking a photo which I think is fair and it’s really good there were no other photo restrictions on the Old Trafford stadium tour.

Manchester United Stadium Tour, media room

After this, we headed back inside and the tour ended outside the Megastore which is also the gift shop and where you can purchase the photo that was taken on arrival to the museum.

Red Cafe at Old Trafford

After we finished the tour we headed back round to the Sir Alex Ferguson stand and went to the Red Cafe at Old Trafford.

There are 2 parts to this , there’s a cafe as you walk in selling drinks and some snack food like cakes and crisps and then there is a sit-down restaurant . This was quite busy when we got there at lunchtime in the school holidays but it’s definitely a cool way to end a memorable visit to Manchester United Stadium!

Overall thoughts and review

I honestly really loved it, even as someone who hasn’t been into football for years I got chills and goosebumps just seeing and hearing how big this club is. I loved the museum for seeing the names of older players and the guide told us a lot about past players too, and then my stepsons loved it for seeing the names of the current players.

We started the tour at the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand and went all the way around to the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand so we did see a lot including the changing rooms, tunnel, dugout and media room.

My brother who is a big football fan told me he was so jealous of me going on the Manchester United stadium tour and it made me think that many people might not realise just how easy and accessible it really is to do which is why I wanted to write this post and tell you because it’s not hard to book at all and there is a lot of availability.

The only downside I’d say is that of course, you can’t go on the pitch, which might be disappointing for some and also that there is a lot of walking between corridors and through the areas under the seats so that’s just something to keep in mind if you have difficulty walking or have young children.

I hope this review and recap has helped you decide what to expect from a Manchester United Stadium Tour, and that you should book tickets for an Old Trafford tour here!

Manchester United's Ashley Young celebrates with Juan Mata after scoring their first goal.

That’s all from me – keep your eyes peeled for Jamie Jackson’s match report. Thanks for all your emails and tweets and apologies if I didn’t get around to yours, but each one was appreciated equally. Until next time …

FULL-TIME! Real Madrid 1-3 Manchester United

And that’s that. Impressive from United and they head to Miami for the final on Monday night. Two goals from Ashley Young in the first half, with Gareth Bale’s penalty sandwiched in between, had Louis van Gaal’s team in front at half-time and Hernández added the insurance late on for a comfortable win.

89 min: While Mata and Rooney looked good when linking up in the first half, there’s been promising signs from Kagawa and Hernández working off each other in the past 15 minutes. Still, Real have been sluggish from start to finish apart from very, very brief and sporadic bursts.

86 min: Ronaldo has been quiet since coming on but has just won a corner off Tyler Blackett’s shin. The kick is far too deep though and, eventually, United clear.

84 min: United controlling the play now since doubling their lead. It’s been a promising tour of the US for Van Gaal so far – with the added bonus of an additional run-out on Monday all but guaranteed.

Just the 109,318 at the Big House. A record attendance for a football (or should that be soccer?) game in the US.

GOAL! Real Madrid 1-3 Manchester United (Hernández, 80)

Hernández finally finds the net at the third time of asking with a cute header at the back post. But the credit should go to Kagawa, who fizzed a beautiful pass with his right peg on to the Mexico striker’s head.

77 min: Jesse Lingard plays a neat, low cross from just inside the right side of the box. Javier Hernández stretches but is inches short of a simple tap-in.

75 min: Cleverley’s free-kick is cleared as far as Kagawa but he scuffs his shot wide.

74 min: Cristiano Ronaldo enters the fray. Luke Shaw takes a deep breath.

70 min: Darren Fletcher has looked quite impressive in midfield and has just berated the defence, who have been soaking up piles of pressure. But United show signs of attacking intent for the first time in some time as Shinji Kagawa’s dinked ball finds Javier Hernández, who fails to connect well with his strike.

The Big House full: an impressive sight.

65 min: Modric fizzes in a corner which Phil Jones heads clear. But it’s all Real and they soon win another corner. That is cleared, Modric’s returning cross is headed behind again by Jones. And Modric takes a third corner in 90 seconds. That one ends up on the opposite side. Bale’s inswinging cross is met by De Tomás but the 19-year-old heads over.

61 mins: This is where the game becomes a bit silly: United introduce three more new faces. Chicharito, Kagawa and Lingard all on as Ronaldo has a little stretch on the touchline. Will we be graced with his presence?

60 min: Real enjoying their best spell and Arbeloa wins a corner via Shaw. There’s some ping-pong in the area and it ends with Pepe drilling wide.

The game has been tamed a bit. But the Herrera debate has legs. Farid responds:

Edan, my point exactly, no one else went for him. And Thorpe, there’s a difference between conjuring nearly half a dozen assist against LA Galaxy compared to exhibiting combative skills against the likes of Roma, Internazionale and Real Madrid. Last I checked United are aiming to compete in the Champions League once again, not the MLS.

And George Gaywood gives his take …

For me we have struggled with both ball retention, playing with tempo and physicality in the centre of the park since the days of Scholes. Herrera can drastically improve two of those areas but for me we still require a box to box midfield commander. Pogba? Lol.

56 min: Bale’s free-kick technique looks quite like Ronaldo’s these days and after sizing it up, dips the ball over the wall. De Gea gets down well to his bottom left corner to save. Alonso is off by the way, replaced by Raúl de Tomás.

54 min: Luke Shaw fouls Arbeloa and Real have a dangerously positioned free-kick, which Bale is eyeing up, but there’s a slight delay as Xabi Alonso is being treated for an injury.

In Minneapolis, it finished 2-2 between Man City and Olympiakos. The Greek side won the penalty shootout 5-4 and are awarded the bonus point. For those of you hoping for a Manchester derby in Miami, that boat has now sailed.

47 min: Bale turns Keane inside out on the left and picks out Isco near the penalty spot. The shot is deflected off Evans and De Gea saves well.

Wayne Rooney restarts. More of the same, please. That first half was above your average friendly fare.

United have made three changes at the break: Shaw on for Young, Blackett on for Evans, Cleverley on for Herrera. Real continue with the same XI.

Sometimes, there are no words

Sake, etc pic.twitter.com/ihQaaGUa6y — Daniel Harris (@DanielHarris) August 2, 2014

And one more email before we restart. This from Michael Francis Pollin:

I am in Barcelona, just watched Barça draw 1-1 with Nice on Català TV & now watching MUFC V Real Madrid. But the Spanish commentary and punditary is still full of passion and very constructive (in drawing and losing), whereas the English would still be negative and critical! Unfortunately, as so many access the game through un-positive media coverage, this attitude continues to permeate through the playing and learning of the game.

Some more of your emails on Herrera

I think it’s fair to say that Farid Emran’s comment that Herrera is even worse than Cleverly is a bit too soon; but if Herrera really is such a fantastic prospect why did no other club go for him as well? No to mention that he was also well down even United’s midfield wanted list last summer too – Edan Tal
Herrera has been a breath of fresh air in midfield, I have no idea what Farid has been watching. He’s misplaced a few passes tonight granted, but other than that he’s been combative, full of skill with the ball with direct running and some great through balls. He set up about 5 goals in the first game of tour. Exactly what United have been missing these past few years. You’d have to be insane to criticise him after watching Fellaini/Carrick/Cleverly last season. I’m guessing he’s a Pool fan – Alex Thorpe

Paddy Crerand is on the touchline, working as an analyst for MUTV, which gives me an excuse to post this moment of radio gold.

Was wondering how long it would take for somebody to mention this, so hat-tip to Matthew Hayes for being first in:

Why is this the International Champions Cup? United aren’t Champions of anything at the moment, are they?

Meanwhile …

@alansmith90 young is without a doubt better than messi and Ronaldo lol — George Sharpe (@GeorgSharpe) August 2, 2014

What have we made of Ander Herrera so far in a United shirt? Farid Emran hasn’t been impressed. Although, is it not far too early to produce a damning verdict?

Apart from the LA Galaxy match I don’t think Herrera has been impressive at all. In this match he has had a few misplaced passes and most of his completed passes were sideways or back passes. TC23 needn’t worry about his place in the team. Has United bought another overpriced overhyped player?

Half-time! Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester United

A very enjoyable 45 minutes comes to a close and a band on a trailer are being rolled out onto the Big House surface.

45 min: United have a free-kick 30 yards out. Rooney cleverly clips it over the wall into Mata’s path, who shoots wide. They had been practicing that one.

42 min: Danny Welbeck, impressive up until now, is limping off to be replaced by Wilfried Zaha.

Some more on Pepe and Sergio Ramos …

@alansmith90 JR is spot on about Pepe & Ramos probably the dirtiest duo in recent years min 40 red cards between them. Thugs! — John McEnerney (@MackerOnTheMed) August 2, 2014

Justin Kavanagh, via email, is reading the minds of many with regards United’s second and whether Rooney got a touch:

Did Rooney get a hair-plug on that one or not?

GOAL! Real Madrid 1-2 Manchester United (Young, 37)

Young fizzes a delightful cross in from the left which Rooney jumps for under pressure from Ramos. He fails to connect and the ball bounces before creeping in past Casillas. Rooney is attempting to claim it but replays suggest he didn’t add to the cross – even though the PA announcer in the ground awards the goal to the striker.

35 min: Bale goes close with a stunning overheard kick after Daniel Carvajal’s pinpoint cross. Such magnificent execution but De Gea saves.

33 min: We have a Mexican wave at the Big House. That tells you all you need to know about what’s currently happening on the pitch.

31 min: Real beginning to look a bit more threatening since the equaliser, but Bale’s long ball is easily cut out by Evans.

Bit of a lull on the pitch, so here’s more from JR in Illinois on Real’s defensive partnership …

I really hope Pepe and Ramos can give the American crowd a taste of what they’re all about. At least one out of the following list would be nice: head butt, vicious elbow to back of head, stamp (on lower leg preferably but hand will work if the opportunity presents itself), scything challenge from behind, punch in face, headlock, arm bar, figure-four toe hold suplex atomic wedgie

GOAL! Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester United (Bale, 27)

Michael Keane clumsily drags down Gareth Bale, who up until now had been anonymous. He dusts himself down to take the penalty, calmly driving it low into the right side of the net with De Gea diving in the opposite direction.

23 min: Real show signs of life, winning their first corner. Modric takes but Juan Mata picks up possession, who then picks out Jonny Evans on the left wing (yes, the left wing) and risking a bloody nose, passes it back to Ashley Young.

GOAL! Real Madrid 0-1 Manchester United (Young, 21)

Some magnificent football from United, with 20 passes in the build-up. Valencia finds Fletcher on the right, he plays a rapid one-two with Rooney, then feeds Welbeck who picks out an unmarked Ashley Young on the left. And the winger tucks it into the bottom corner.

18 min: Antonio Valencia gallops down the right past Nacho but his cross fails to find a red shirt.

15 min: Real enjoy a rare jaunt into the United half, they pass the ball sideways and slowly before Fletcher picks up possession. Sloppy from Carlo Ancelotti’s team so far.

13 min: United win their second corner following a neat turn from Juan Mata. Rooney swings it in again and it’s cleared into the path of Darren Fletcher on the edge of the area. The Scot controls before striking with the inside of his right boot from 20 yards, across goal and wide.

9 min: That high pressing is evident again as Juan Mata picks up a loose Real pass inside the attacking third. He feeds Welbeck who fails to fashion an opportunity. United look much sharper in the early stages – although, it must be added, that Real are without nine players.

7 min: Corner for United, which Rooney attempts to clip towards the near post but the danger is dealt with easily.

6 min: Quite a decent tempo so far, with Welbeck lively. Ander Herrera’s first real involvement is a foul on Luka Modric, who was about to play in Gareth Bale, but Van Gaal’s high pressing tactic is obvious to see immediately.

4 min: Ashley Young attempts to find Rooney but the striker is flagged for offside.

3 min: United break and Wayne Rooney plays a lovely through ball towards Danny Welbeck but Nacho covers well.

Real get us going, playing from left to right, in their all white strip. United are in red.

Quite the turnout for a kickabout

The players have made their way to the pitch! #ICC2014 https://t.co/46VjGkbahd — Int Champions Cup (@IntChampionsCup) August 2, 2014

The teams are in the tunnel several minutes now, where Spanish team-mates Iker Casillas and David de Gea share a warm exchange. Meanwhile, Man City are drawing 1-1 with Olympiakos at half-time in Minneapolis, City’s goal coming from Stevan Jovetic.

JR in Illinois, resident fashionisto, has emailed in about CR7. Tend to agree.

Cristiano Ronaldo likes to show off his tanned legs. Photograph: Paul Sancya/AP

Hey Alan, I notice in the picture above that Cristiano has decided to go with the Alexis Sanchez look with his shorts. Not a good look.

Earlier on Internazionale defeated Roma 2-0, which means United simply need to avoid defeat to finish top of group A. In group B, Manchester City are currently scoreless with Olympiakos after half an hour, Liverpool’s game against Milan kicks-off at 11.30pm BST.

United appear to be sticking with Louis van Gaal’s preferred formation of 3-4-1-2, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young deployed as wing-backs with Juan Mata tucked behind the strikers. Darren Fletcher wears the armband – which may frustrate Wayne Rooney, who appeared quite keen on becoming captain some weeks back. Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo does not start for Real.

Real Madrid: Casillas, Arbeloa, Nacho, Pepe, Ramos, Carvajal, Illarramendi, Alonso, Modric, Bale, Isco

Manchester United: De Gea, M Keane, Jones, Evans, Valencia, Herrera, Fletcher, Young, Mata, Rooney, Welbeck

Good evening!

Keeping well? Great. I know, I know it’s hard to get excited about a friendly in a dubiously named tournament three weeks after the World Cup final. But we live off whatever scraps come our way and, as these pre-season kickabouts go, this is a mildly interesting one.

And there’s an additional carrot for United, too, if they get a result because victory for Liverpool, who play Milan a little later in the other group, would set up a meeting between the two on Monday night. If Liverpool fail to win and Man City defeat Olympiakos then there will be a Manchester derby in Miami. And if that doesn’t whet your appetite …

Kick-off is at, er, 9.06pm BST but while you wait why not read Jamie Jackson on how Premier League clubs have proven a hit in USA! USA!! USA!!! this summer. They are expecting 109,000 people at the Big House – the fourth highest attendance in United’s history.

Man United win in front of 109,318

Manchester United thrilled a record crowd with a brilliant opening goal -- and even Cristiano Ronaldo's unexpected entrance proved futile for Real Madrid.

Ashley Young scored twice in the first half, and United beat Madrid 3-1 on Saturday in front of 109,318 fans at Michigan Stadium.

It was the largest crowd to see a soccer game in the United States, breaking the mark of 101,799 set at the Rose Bowl for the 1984 Olympic final.

"That was incredible," United's Michael Keane said. "Obviously, it is the biggest crowd I've ever played in front of, and it is for a friendly in the States. I've always heard they don't care for our football, but there were 109,000 people out there. That's pretty crazy anywhere in the world."

Ronaldo has been recovering from the left leg injury that limited him in the World Cup, but the world player of the year came on surprisingly as a 74th-minute substitute, although he didn't have much impact.

Louis van Gaal claimed his biggest scalp of the preseason as the new manager racked up his fourth win of the summer thanks to Young and another goal from substitute Javier Hernandez.

Ronaldo could not help an out-of-sorts Madrid, whose only goal came courtesy of Gareth Bale's penalty.

United, who have recorded wins over the Los Angles Galaxy, Roma and Inter Milan in the U.S., advance to the final of the International Champions Cup on Monday night in Miami. There, Van Gaal will get his first taste of United's bitter rivalry with Liverpool, who qualified for the final after Manchester City lost 5-4 on penalties to Olympiakos following a 2-2 draw in Minneapolis.

- Payne: Young and Fletcher thrive under Van Gaal

Real Madrid's starting XI did not include Ronaldo, and new signings Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez, but there were still plenty of stars on show in white. The likes of Bale, Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso were second best in the opening half though as United dominated from the off.

Darren Fletcher in particular impressed early on. The Scot dictated play from deep, spraying passes across the vast surface in Ann Arbor.

United's captain for the night flashed a shot wide from 20 yards after 13 minutes and soon after he played a big part in the brilliant first goal. The midfielder played the ball into Wayne Rooney, who returned it with a deft backheel. Fletcher then squared to Danny Welbeck, who teed up Young and he drilled the ball past Iker Casillas at his near post.

It took Carlo Ancelotti's team just six minutes to equalise. Michael Keane, making his first start of the tour, clambered all over Bale's back and the Welshman went to ground to earn a penalty. The former Tottenham winger converted the spot-kick to David de Gea's left.

Bale later tested De Gea with an overhead kick, but United remained on top and they deservedly regained the lead nine minutes from halftime.

Young cut in from the left and floated a ball to the back post. Rooney missed as he jumped for the header, but his body movement was enough to wrong-foot Casillas and the ball sailed in at the far post.

Welbeck suffered an injury and came off for Wilfried Zaha just before the break. Van Gaal then made three substitutions at halftime, and another three on the hour. With Rooney, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata off the pitch, United were nowhere near as strong.

Bale struck a post with a dipping free-kick. Madrid fans called for Ronaldo's introduction, yelling his name as he warmed up on the touchline.

Then, with 17 minutes left, the decibel levels rocketed inside the Michigan Stadium as Ronaldo replaced Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Portuguese wowed the crowds with a couple of neat step-overs, but he could not swing the match in Real's favour.

Hernandez put the result beyond any doubt when he nodded in Shinji Kagawa's pin-point pass from close range in the 80th minute.

Manchester United Kick Off Tour 2014 in LA Tonight

New boss Louis van Gaal takes charge of the Reds side for the first time as the boys from Old Trafford cross the Atlantic to the ‘new world’ for their pre-season tour of the United States. Many of the club’s World Cup stars will be part of Tour 2014, presented by Aon.

Fresh off taking the Dutch national squad to third place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, new manager Louis van Gaal will lead United for the first time in a much-anticipated pre-season match against LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup at the Rose Bowl tonight – Wednesday, July 23.

The match is the first of four scheduled matches on Tour 2014, presented by Aon, with a possible fifth to come if the Reds reach the International Champions Cup final in Miami. Many of United’s World Cup players will also be in attendance for the tour's duration, including Wayne Rooney, David De Gea, Shinji Kagawa and Juan Mata. Alongside these familiar faces fans will also see new signings Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw make their Manchester United debuts. Check out the final 25-man tour squad here.

Ashley Young says pre-season is key: “re-season is more intense and there’s a lot more running involved, but you’ve got to go through it to get yourself fully prepared for the new season.”

Big names in big places After the opening match against LA Galaxy at the world-renowned Rose Bowl – one of the United States’ premier sports venues – United will face AS Roma in the International Champions Cup in a mile-high match in Denver, Colorado on Saturday, July 26, at Sports Authority Field – a site that will be forever known as Mile High to local fans. The team then travels cross country to the capital to play Italian powerhouse Inter Milan at FedEx Field in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, July 29. Four days later they travel back to the American heartland on Saturday, August 2 to face Spanish conquistadors Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Home to the University of Michigan, “The Big House” is the third largest stadium in the world. United are expected to play in front of a record crowd in The Big House with the match set to have the largest attendance for a football (soccer!) match in the United States. The stadium sold out in 24 hours this past spring – over 100,000 tickets!

If United make the f inal of the International Champions Cup, the pre-season tour will conclude with the final in Miami on Monday August 4.

United legend Paul Scholes says Tour matches will test Reds: “I think players prefer against top-class teams.”

Players relish challenge The players will relish playing against some of the biggest teams in world football. “Football is becoming bigger in America all the time," says United legend Paul Scholes. "We've got eight million supporters there and you couldn't ask for eight better teams to play in this tournament. It'll be great for the fans to get a closer look at them and see us train and play.”

New kit debut Fans will get their first glimpse of the squad playing in the new Chevrolet-sponsored 2014/15 kit in the opening match of Tour 2014, presented by Aon. The new kit was unveiled on Monday ahead of the new season and the players will wear it for the first time against LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup at the Rose Bowl on 23 July.

Reds’ striker Wayne Rooney says team is determined: “Any player will tell you the most important thing for the season is to get a good pre-season under your belt and that's what we're all trying to do.”

Last season’s moving moments Despite the team’s struggles last season, Manchester United and DHL delivered many moving moments that we will not soon forget. Click here to have a look at the highlights.

2024 PGA Championship odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

L ouisville will be the center of the golf world this week with the 2024 PGA Championship in town for the 2nd major of the year. Valhalla Golf Club is hosting this storied event for 2nd time in 10 years. In 2014 Rory McIlroy won it to claim his 3rd major championship. The 1st round tees off on Thursday morning from Kentucky.

Below, we look at BetMGM Sportsbook's 2024 PGA Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions .

World No. 1  Scottie Scheffler hasn't played since winning the RBC Heritage the week after winning the Masters, but he'll be back in the field this week following the birth of his 1st child and in search of his 2nd straight major title. He's the betting favorite again at +450, followed by McIlroy (+750) and Xander Schauffele (+1400), who dueled on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship. Reigning PGA Champion Brooks Koepka is at +1600 in his quest for a 4th Wanamaker Trophy.

The field also includes 4-time PGA Championship winner Tiger Woods , who opens at +15000 to win. Woods finished 60th at the Masters (+16).

Valhalla Golf Club is yet another long PGA Championship course, coming in at 7,609 yards. It's a par 71, making it an even more challenging track at that length. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986 and this is the 4th time it is hosting a PGA Championship (1986, 2000, 2014). Hitting the fairway is critical because of how lush the rough is, penalizing players for missing with errant tee shots.

PGA Championship – Expert picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 2:32 p.m. ET.

Brooks Koepka (+1600)

Koepka is a big-game hunter and the PGA Championship is his specialty. He's won this event 3 times already, claiming the title in 2018, 2019 and 2023. He finished 2nd in 2021 at Kiawah, too, behind only Phil Mickelson . Koepka did not have a good week at the Masters (T-49, +9), but he's since gotten back on track, finishing 10th in Adelaide and winning in Singapore, his last 2 LIV starts. With a U.S. Open-type layout, Koepka has the ability to grind through 4 rounds better than most players.

Ludvig Aberg (+1800)

Aberg withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship last week due to a knee injury, but that seems to be more of a precaution than a serious ailment for the 24-year-old star. In his 1st career major start at the Masters in April, he finished 2nd, showing that no stage is too big for him. He has the all-around game to win a PGA Championship, too, being one of the best drivers and long-iron players in the world.

Rory McIlroy (+750)

This number was a bit higher before McIlroy won in convincing fashion at Quail Hollow on Sunday, but he's still worth betting at +750. He's now won in back-to-back starts and heads to Valhalla where he won the 2014 PGA Championship. With the Masters pressure behind him, he can play more freely in Louisville this week knowing this event doesn't come with the burden of attempting to complete the grand slam.

PGA Championship picks – Contenders

Will zalatoris (+6000).

In Zalatoris' last 5 starts at the PGA Championship and U.S. Open, he's finished 6th, 8th, MC, 2nd and 2nd. Few players in the world have had better recent success in those 2 major championships than Zalatoris, and it's largely because the best ball-strikers rise to the top in these events. He's a great bet for any PGA Championship, especially at +6000. That number is much longer than you'd expect from his major history.

Cameron Smith (+4000)

The biggest concern with Smith is his driving accuracy. He can get a bit wild off the tee, which at a course like Valhalla can be particularly penalizing. But if he can manage to keep it in the short grass, he'll be peppering these greens to give himself good looks at birdies. And when he misses the green, he has an excellent short game to scramble and recover for pars. He's finished 13th and 9th in his last 2 PGA Championship starts.

Jason Day (+5500)

Day is a past PGA Champion, winning in 2015 at Whistling Straits. He struggled in this championship in recent years but he has 6 career top-10s in the PGA Championship. Day is playing well at the moment, fresh off a T-4 at the Wells Fargo Championship last week, a good test before the year's 2nd major.

PGA Championship picks – Long shots

Jake knapp (+17500).

Knapp has all the talent in the world, but he can be inconsistent, particularly with his driver. When the timing of his swing is off, he tends to have a bad left miss off the tee, which has hurt him in recent months. But as we saw at the Mexico Open and Cognizant Classic in back-to-back weeks when he finished 1st and 4th, he's a star when the swing is timed up properly. He has the length to conquer Valhalla, too.

Alex Noren (+12500)

It's been 3 months since Noren finished worse than 24th in any event. He's on a heater right now and while that may not translate to a major win (he has zero career PGA Tour victories), he's worth considering at this price. Noren ranks 8th on tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green so his ball-striking is fantastic.

Cam Davis (+15000)

Davis was having a good week in Charlotte until he shot 6-over in the final round to tumble down the leaderboard, all the way to T-38. He surprised a lot of people when he came in 3rd at the 2023 PGA Championship and he's now made the cut in 3 straight years at this major.
