Australia, the wait is finally over. British electronic synth pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) make their triumphant return to Australia for the first time since 1987.

OMD will tour Australia in February 2025 with their Greatest Hits tour.

Celebrating 45 years in music, former schoolfriends Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphries, will play their catalogue of hits that include some of the most beloved songs of the 80s – including If You Leave from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack, Enola Gay, Secret, Souvenir, So in Love, (Forever) Live and Die , Electricity, Joan Of Arc (Maid Of Orleans) and  many more alongside songs from their stellar fourteen studio albums including their latest release, Bauhaus Staircase, released in 2023.

Their latest studio album Bauhaus Staircase, charting at no.2 in the UK, is OMD’s most explicitly political record and the crowning achievement of their desire to be both Stockhausen and Abba – born from the impetus to kickstart new explorations during lockdown. A broad, electronic, sonic masterpiece that lyrically tackles the topics of the future, it was predominantly written, recorded, and mixed by both McCluskey and Paul Humphreys.

OMD have sold over 40 million albums and recorded some of the most iconic songs of the 1980s.  Combining their love of synth, electronic music, and their talent for writing great pop songs, OMD have established themselves as of one Britain’s most- loved pop groups. Just days after Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark ( OMD ) teased a forthcoming tour announcement for Australia and New Zealand, the British band will return for their first run of dates down under in 38 years.

Synth pioneers Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys will celebrate 45 years of music by bringing their Greatest Hits tour to Australia in February 2025.

“Finally!!! The wait is over!” McCluskey commented in a press release. ‘We have tried and tried to get back to Australia for nearly forty years.

“We are so excited to be able to say that we are definitely going to play live again down under. We cannot wait! This is going to be so special. As it’s been such a long time since we were live in Australia, we will be playing every single one of our hits and a few extra classics, too!”

The tour promises hits such as If You Leave from the Pretty In Pink soundtrack, as well as classics like Enola Gay, Secret, Souvenir, So In Love , ( Forever ) Live And Die, Electricity, Joan Of Arc ( Maid Of Orleans ), and many more. Their discography includes 14 albums, including 2023’s Bauhaus Staircase .

Last year, OMD released their 14th album,  Bauhaus Staircase .

Dropped six years after 2017’s  The Punishment Of Luxury , McCluskey “rediscovered the creative power of total bloody boredom” during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in the UK.  Bauhaus Staircase,  OMD's fourth album since their 2006 reformation, saw OMD inspired (or horrified) by world politics of the 2010s and 2020s.

The current line-up of OMD consists of founding members and principal songwriters Andy McCluskey (vocalist, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals), keyboardist and saxophonist  Martin Cooper , and drummer  Stuart Kershaw .

Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (OMD) return to Australia for the first time since 1987

If you’re a fan of 80s band OMD you might have been waiting a long time for the duo to tour Australia.

The band have just announced a 2025 tour across Australia – their first visit since their heyday in the 1980s. In the 1980s OMD filled the airwaves of Perth’s adult contemporary radio station 96FM, back when we only had a handful of FM radio stations.

The tour will begin in Perth on 12th of February before heading to Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Early Bird Presale begins Wednesday 1 May and general tickets are on sale from Friday 3 May.

Celebrating 45 years in music, former schoolfriends Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphries, will play their catalogue of hits that include some of the most beloved songs of the 80s.

McClusky has also found success as a writer and producer. He founded the girl group Atomic Kitten and wrote many of their early hits including the chart topper Whole Again.

Recent tour reviews

So, as a person of a very similar age to the fabulous duo that is OMD, and having seen them initially over 35 years ago, this was always going to be in some ways an enjoyable walk down memory lane.

That said I'm sure I didn't view it with rose tinted spectacles, nor did all the rest of the audience.

It was a step back in time to 80s pop synth at its best, but also a concert that other far more modern artists would be proud to have performed (think PSB and the like).

Ably supported by a drummer and keyboard (and sax) player, Andy and Paul both performed as if they were still in their 20s and played a set that lasted over 90 minutes that passed in flash. Included were the majority of their greatest hits (much applauded by the 50 something (and 60 something) audience) and also some of their latest singles (again well received (its OMD, of course it would be well received)).

All in all this was marvellous concert, well performed (great voice and dancing Andy) and likewise well received by a very enthusiastic audience.

I will certainly watch them again when they next tour, as this concert rolled back the years for nearly all the audience.

This event made me an incredible happiness and seven days before Christmas which was my great gift of all these years

Especially when I slipped my hand behind the back of Andy McCluskey and him on my shoulder and I thought I was going to faint and it was still in a dream ....

Being a great French fan for many years at the age of 14 and now 53 years old it's crazy!

In addition I wanted for too long to meet my favorite idols and that evening and in addition, I had told them their new book 40 years "pretending to see the future" my name Dalida My last name was mentioned on the last page and that's why I went to Liverpool Caverne Club last December for "finally"! realize my dream for almost 40 years of love and that night I managed

Andy and Paul were very happy and delighted to have been there for them and especially Andy who told me little French words to put me at ease and I saw that he was very happy and after I asked him if I could still have a photo and also to Paul and they accepted and I slipped my ma behind Andy's back and him on my shoulder and Paul there was no more room for also put his on my shoulder

They were wonderful and so kind to me and me especially met my favorite idols

In addition to Andy I offered him a very beautiful picture believing that he would never recognize it and it was his greatest gift and Andy McCluskey will never forget this gift on behalf of his very big French fan and this evening was really successful and without regret.

Unforgettable evening and the only French to have participated in this event.

In addition I will very soon see them again in Paris February 16, 2020 in concert with VIP upgrades backstage all to be near them again and meet other members omd group.

New wave icons OMD are back on the road this spring with the release of their 40th anniversary boxset Souvenir . With an illustrious career across four decades and over 40 million albums sold, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark has solidified their spot as one of Britain’s most beloved and innovative groups. Reaching U.S success with the iconic “If You Leave”, from the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack,  OMD is also known for their previous releases, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark (1980), Organisation (1980), Architecture & Morality (1981) and Dazzle Ships (1983), as well as their brilliant comeback The Punishment of Luxury (2017).

OMD is currently making their way across the east coast to continue the celebrations with fans across the country. Starting at the Plaza Live in Orlando, all the way to the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, the Souvenir Greatest Hits 2022 North American Tour is sure to be an incredible experience.
