One Direction’s Scooby Doo tour bus that cost £70,000 to convert into luxury cruiser is up for sale

YIKES! One Direction fans have a chance to snap-up a piece of the band's motoring history - their Scooby Doo-themed tour bus.

The VW Crafter van cost £70,000 to convert into a luxury road cruiser ferrying Harry Styles and co. between gigs from 2013.

But it is now up for grabs at a 'silent' internet auction in which the highest bid will be accepted without it being revealed.

No expense was spared pimping the 2011 van, which from the outside if a replica of a The Mystery Machine from the legendary 1970s cartoon series with Shaggy, Scooby and Velma.

Inside are heated leather seats from a Bentley inscribed with the initials LM and ZM for Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson.

Five cameras keep an eye fans outside - and there's even said to be a water jet to keep them at bat if they get to boisterous.

The roof is made from old comic books under Perspex finish, while the carpets have under-floor heating. There's also a fridge and a microwave.

It has been kitted with a huge 55" Sony Bravia plasma TV screen and two smaller ones on the sides, a Sony PlayStation, Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii.

The sound system boasts four 12” subwoofers powered by a Sony amplifier and a laser light show system for parties.

It is being sold by Ashtons car dealers near Newton Abbott, Devon.

Sales manager Oliver Cox explained: "We know someone in the trade who is a friend of Zayn and got it a few months ago.

"It is in perfect condition and only done 3,000 miles.

"The van was supposed to take One Direction on tour across America, but when it arrived there it hit copyright problems because of its Mystery Machine branding and had to be shipped straight back.

"There has been a lot of interest in it. I'm hoping for six figures for it, and the bids are already getting towards £100,000.

"It is certainly different from the usual Mercedes, Porsche and Land Rover we sell!"

Louis Tomlinson seems to be having the time of his life while on tour thanks to his dedicated fans.

The singer, of course, rose to fame on the X Factor after getting grouped with his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles , Niall Horan , Liam Payne and Zayn Malik - and even though fans are loving his solo career, the 1D memory indeed lives on.

A Closer Look Inside The Iconic One Direction Tour Bus

The ‘Walls’ singer is no stranger to singing a 1D song or two as part of his tour setlist (which, BTW, is the most nostalgic thing ever!).

So, fans’ latest discovery of his tour moments is unsurprisingly sending Directioners everywhere into meltdown.

Louis has been spotted waving to fans from the inside of his tour bus in recent weeks, and after gigs, people have even taken a closer look at his tour bus, which has a little tribute to the legendary boyband in the form of a sticker!

Yep, that’s right - a sticker of the former fivesome all hugging has made it to the back of Louis’ tour bus!

It’s unclear how it exactly got there and if it was a present from a fan or an addition to the tour bus by Louis himself.

But it’s making fans extremely emotional nonetheless.

It first went viral with a fan sharing a picture on Twitter, writing: “Heh? Guys WHO did this? Btw this is Louis' tour bus….”

“Plot twist it was Louis,” theorised one fan, while another said what we were all thinking: “Whoever did it, it was mean 'cause we are sobbing.”

“To the person who did this, I love you,” added another, before more people went on to point out that they had their very own version of the same sticker.

At this point, the mystery remains unsolved, but as long as we get to see the 1D love, we’re fine with that!

One Direction get 'Scooby Doo' tour bus for US dates

One Direction have chosen a Scooby Doo -style tour bus to travel the US leg of their world tour.

As well as having the One Direction logo "wrapped" on the side, the bus will be decked out with top range entertainment, including a plasma screen television and individual entertainment consoles.

A source told the newspaper: "The boys love cartoons and Scooby Doo is a cult classic. They wanted to do something special ahead of their US tour and decided to get a bespoke tour bus created.

"The guys are desperate to have it shipped over to America so it can join them on tour. Scooby's obviously a US import and massive out there so they know the van will be a hit with both the fans - and their mums.

"If management decide it's too expensive and impractical then they'll simply keep it as a fun vehicle for travelling from city to city over here."

The group recently appeared at Madame Tussauds to unveil their wax work figures .

LONDON, Oct 31: Former boy band One Direction's Scooby Doo-themed tour bus is being sold at an auction.

The group used the Scooby Doo-themed VW Crafter van to travel between gigs from 2013, but it is now at an online auction, reports thesun.co.uk. The 2011 vehicle cost 70,000 pounds to convert into a luxury cruiser, and from the outside it is a replica of the Mystery Machine, the vehicle used in the classic cartoon series.

The van boasts heated leather seats inscribed with LM and ZM for singers and then band members Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik, under-floor heating, a fridge and microwave, and it also has a roof covered in pages from comic books encased in perspex.

Five camera were installed to keep an eye on fans outside, and it's even believed there is a water jet that could be used to keep them at bay if things got too wild. The van also has a 55" plasma TV screen, two smaller televisions on the sides, a Play Station, Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Wii.

There is also a sound system and a laser light show for added party atmosphere. The vehicle will be sold in a silent auction, meaning the winning bid won't be disclosed, by Ashtons car  dealers.

The Secrets Of One Direction’s Wildly Successful ‘Where We Are’ Tour

The 2014 Where We Are tour remains One Direction’s greatest triumph. Celebrating the boys’ Midnight Memories album, which became the biggest-selling record of 2013 despite only being released in November of that year, the tour started in Bogotá, Colombia, in April, and concluded six months later in Miami, Florida. More than 3 million fans saw their favourite band live , and it reportedly raked in close to $300 million.

With a setlist that incorporated new hits like “Story Of My Life” and “Best Song Ever”, as well as fan favourites like “Little Things”, the tour was deliberately created as a visual feast. The stadium-only locations presented the design team with a challenge: how to ensure the energy of Harry, Liam, Louis, Niall and Zayn’s famously animated performances was not lost in the vast arenas.

Stufish CEO and set designer Ray Winkler was tasked with pulling it off. “I remember the guys having a lot of energy, and being very excited to perform to their fans,” he told Miss Vogue over email. “We had been working very closely with their creative director, Lee Lodge, over the years, so it was great to hook up with him again to design their Where We Are tour in 2014.”

When it came to moodboarding with the band and their team, Winkler said the priority was ensuring that every fan in those gargantuan stadiums felt like Louis, Harry, Liam, Zayn and Niall were singing only to them. “[We] made sure that the stage was pushed deep into the audience and the side video screens were rotated back, so that those who sat in the wings – traditionally not very good seats – could still see their favourite band and be part of the experience,” Winkler explained. “We made sure that no matter where you sat, you could always see them perform on stage.”

The set designer says every member of the band took a keen interest in the process. “They were all equally engaged and interested in the creation of this tour — after all, it was going to be the five of them that needed to make the set come alive, so they could deliver the most memorable experience for their fans. Their passion and ambition to deliver the best show possible was undeniable.” Winkler added: “All the members of One Direction were incredibly interested, and very excited about the fresh new creative approach that Lee brought to the table.”

The boys’ close involvement contributed to the fast-paced, high-energy planning phase ahead of the tour. “Ideas flew thick and fast, so our role was to understand the creative ambition and translate it into a viable touring proposition, while at the same time preserving the energy and intent of the original idea,” he said. “Stufish played an integral part in translating this vision into a vibrant and impactful design that reflected the band’s aspirations and ambitions of being the world’s greatest boy band.” Job done then.

The result was a bold, bright, electrifying production, picked out in a colour palette that reflected the energy of the band. Pyrotechnics were employed for additional drama, with a catwalk-style promenade jutting into the crowd for an intimate touch.

Of course, a key part of the production’s success was the excitement of the fans, who purchased their tickets for the sell-out tour just shy of a year in advance. “The energy that One Direction managed to generate from their fans in the stadium really inspired us to create an experience that their fans would never forget, and to push the boundaries of stage design for a pop concert,” Winkler says.

“The set was quite complex, with multiple entrances and exits connecting to multiple ramps and stairs. You can imagine some of the comedy of trying to choreograph the five band members on a stage terrain that was anything other than flat,” Winkler recalled. “The opportunity to get lost made for some funny moments of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Six years on, Ray clearly still has fond memories of his days working with One Direction boys. “My favourite memory of the tour was being surrounded by so much talent, dedicated to delivering the best show ever. One Direction was such an exciting band to work with, and it was a great privilege to be part of their journey and see them grow creatively.”

One Thing: Open-top Bus Tour

The “One Thing” music video saw the boy band taking a London tour on a double-deck bus. Some famous locations you may notice in the video are Millennium Bridge, Trafalgar Square, and the Parliament.

Trafalgar Square is the place where the five members did a live performance in the music video. The area is a historical landmark, made to remember the British victory against French and Spanish troops during the Battle of Trafalgar . The place is riddled with statues and fixtures commemorating historical figures, so take the time to look at them all when you visit.

One Way or Another: 10 Downing Street

“One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks)” is a cover/medley of American band Blondie’s “One Way or Another” and The Undertones’ “Teenage Kicks.” The music video was shot in various locations in Africa, New York, Tokyo, and London. It was released in support of Comic Relief, a British charity.

In one of its scenes, you can see the members up to some funny shenanigans with then-Prime Minister David Cameron. This was filmed in 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the British prime minister. The area is, unfortunately, not open to the public for safety reasons.

But don’t worry because a copy of the 10 Downing Street door exists in London. Just visit 10 Adam Street , which is nearby from The Strand. To the untrained eye, it looks similar to the iconic 10 Downing Street black door!

Midnight Memories: River Thames and Tower Bridge

This is another music video where they go around London, but they do it at night. In this one, they take a boat ride on the River Thames. There are many available cruises with different offerings, but I suggest you go for one that allows you to hop on and hop off at various landmarks. It saves you a lot of walking!

The boys also climb up Tower Bridge, one of the most recognizable London landmarks. Aside from being a stunner from afar, the tower also lets you climb up to get a thrill from its glass-bottom walkways.

Night Changes: Museum of Natural History

Harry Styles’ ice skating scenes were shot at the London’s National History Museum skating rink. Yes, the National History Museum has its own ice skating rink! This place is trendy during the holiday season.

Should you wish to go skating here, I advise you to wear thick socks because the skates may be a little uncomfortable. You are also allowed to bring your own skates if you have a pair.

COVID-19 Setbacks

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have put a pause in tourism for many countries. The United Kingdom has been similarly affected.

This means temporary closures for tourist attractions and popular landmarks until the situation gets better. Tourists may not even be allowed entry to the country at all. As guidelines can change daily, regularly check airport and airline protocols and the statuses of tourist spots to get accurate information.

While waiting for wide vaccinations and the easing of travel restrictions, feel free to live vicariously through One Direction’s music videos! It’s safe, fun, and will give you a good time until the world returns to normal.
