Air Asia, PAL to offer discounts and promos in this year’s World Travel Expo

Even the worldwide continuous oil price hike won’t stop AirAsia and the Philippine Airlines from joining this year’s World Travel Expo, happening from Oct. 21 to 23, at Okada Manila’s Crystal Pavilion. 

During this three-day event, the two-airline companies have announced that they will offer promos and discounts up for grabs. And as countries reopen their borders to international travelers, it’s about time to go places with your loved ones. This is now your chance to complete your bucket list with your friends and the entire family. 

“For AirAsia, our goal is to offer the best players in the market so even though there are fuel surcharges, we still try to make sure that still AirAsia offers the best rates in the market  and that hasn’t changed,” Jan Ngo, AirAsia assistant route marketing manager tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “Also, despite the conditions right now, people still really want to travel. We see that our passengers, our claims are getting hooked up especially, toward the holiday season.”

Meanwhile, PAL has admitted that the fuel price hike will affect the prices of the promos that the company will offer, but what inspired them to push through in joining the expo is the Filipinos’ will to travel and enjoy after Covid-19 lockdown. 

“I believe that two years after the Covid-19, the fuel will affect , but people now value traveling. And unlike before, this will not be super cheap deals but traveling and spending time with family, for some people, is not something you can put value on,” Leonardo Brayn Sansolis, PAL’s sales regional head, shares. “For this expo, we will offer promos for both domestic and international flights.” 

During the World Travel Expo, about 250 exhibitors are expected to offer promos and discounts. There will be parking space for those who want to visit the event. Entrance fee is P80. For online booking, click here .

Before you book

Read promo details & conditions carefully — Promo fares are only available under conditions posted on the announcement. Be mindful of these important details:

Selling period — You should book your flights before the end of the selling period.

Travel period — Promo fares are only available for dates on or within the travel period.

Is the fare for a one-way or roundtrip (return) ticket?

Is the fare for economy class or business class?

Booking channel where the promo can be availed.

Promo code, if available.

Check availability and book online — If a promo may be booked online, the best way to check if they are available is to do a flight search directly on Philippine Airlines’ official website or mobile app. The process of booking promo flights should be the same as booking regular flights. Make sure to read special conditions on the announcement to confirm this.

Book directly with the airline — Depending on the conditions posted on the announcement, tickets may only be reserved online through PAL’s official booking channels. Including their official website, mobile app, call center, or at ticketing outlets.

Keep in mind that third-party travel agencies, even if they are affiliated with or accredited by Philippine Airlines, might not have access to all promo fares. These agencies would likely tell you that they cannot find the discounted fares in their system, and offer regular fares instead.

Promos are offered on a limited basis — Before calling them “FAKE,” you should know that limited promo seats are available for any given flight route. If all promo seats are sold out on your chosen flight, you will only be able to view and book the next lowest regular fare. Get ahead of other bookers by booking your flights as soon as possible. The airline also limits promo seats on certain dates and rarely offer them on “black-out dates,” which may include peak periods such as holidays, festival dates, and other busy dates for air travelers.

In case you cannot find the promo prices advertised on the announcement, follow these tips to confirm whether a promo is available or not:

Make sure the promo has not yet expired.

Confirm that your chosen travel dates match the travel period posted on the announcement.

Check prices on other dates, perhaps days to months before or after your intended travel.

Check prices on other flight routes and destinations mentioned on the promo announcement.

All-in fares & base fares

Philippine Airlines may advertise prices as “all-in” fares or “base fares” on their sale announcement.

An “all-in” fare is the lowest price charged upon checkout. This price includes the airline’s base fare, fuel surcharge, booking fees, airport fees, and government taxes. It does not include optional add-ons like check-in baggage, meals, travel insurance, seat selection and may not include fees and taxes charged on departure from certain airports.

On the other hand, if a price is advertised as a “base fare”, expect these additional fees added on top of the advertised base fare price: fuel surcharge, booking fees & mandatory airport/government taxes.

Also, both “all-in” and base fares may not include fees collected at the airport (during the pre-departure process). An example of this is the Philippine airport terminal fee and/or travel tax .

Promos may be booked without a credit card — PAL also accepts payment using selected ATM cards and over-the-counter, at authorized payment centers.

How to Book Philippine Airlines Flights & Promo

Philippine Airlines has various methods for passengers who want to book flights. The most popular way is to book online through on their website and mobile app.

You can also buy your flights by calling their booking hotline, by visiting their official ticketing offices and at accredited travel agencies.

How to book flights on PAL website

Step 1 — Go to philippineairlines.com . Book your flights directly on Philippine Airlines’ official website to check real-time airfares and enjoy instant confirmation.

Step 2 — Enter your travel details on the flight search box , which can be found on the homepage. Select your destinations (origin & arrival airports), travel dates, cabin class (all classes or business class), no. of passengers, promo code (if available). Promo codes may be announced during seat sales, promotions, or special deals (view the  latest PAL promo alerts ). If you’ve found an active promo that you would like to book, take note of the travel dates included and make sure they match your planned departure and arrival.

Step 3 — Click the “SEARCH FLIGHTS” button to view the flight results page.

Step 4 — Select your flights by clicking on the airfare/price that you want to book. These airfares are displayed according to the flight departure/arrival times (rows) and seat class (columns). If you want to book a return flight, you should first select your outgoing flight, and then scroll down and select your return flight.

If you are flexible with your travel schedule, choose the cheapest flights displayed on your chosen dates. You may also click the dates on the upper corner of the flight results to view airfares on other dates. Prices shown under each date are the lowest fare that you can book on that day.

If you cannot find promo fares listed on this page, seats allocated for the promo might already be sold out. They are quite limited per flight, especially on peak travel dates and popular promos. You may check other dates for availability. Also, make sure that the selling period has not yet expired.

Step 5 — Click the “Continue” button to proceed to the next page.

Step 6 — Carefully review the itinerary, price, and fare conditions . Here are some important details to double-check:

Flight destinations, routes, and seat class

Flight dates, departure, and arrival times

Airport terminals on departure, arrival, and connecting flights

Fare breakdown

Check-in and hand carry baggage allowance

Is the ticket refundable, re-bookable, or transferrable? If yes, how much would it cost?

Step 7 — Add passenger information , contact information and payment mode.

Step 8 — Select your seat .

Step 9 — Complete payment  by following the on-screen instructions.

For online payments — Major credit cards may be used including Mastercard, Visa, JCB & American Express. You can also send your payment through an ATM card with the BancNet logo on it.

For offline payments — You have until the deadline mentioned to send your payment. Carefully read the details for instructions on where and how to send your payment. You can choose to send you payments through these payment centers, if available: 7 Eleven / ECPAY, Meralco Bayad Center, Cebuana Lhuillier, M Lhuillier, One Network Banks, Robinsons Department Store, SM Bills Payment Centers, Asia United Bank (AUB), Banco de Oro (BDO), Philippine National Bank (PNB), & Unionbank.

Step 10 — Print the electronic ticket/itinerary , which will be sent to your email address upon confirmation of your payment. Depending on the airport policy, you may instead show a digital copy of the electronic ticket that you saved on your mobile phone.

Yes Salvador! You can book now to lock in the ticket fare. Then, add baggage later (usually, no price increase if you book at least a few days before departure).

Thank you! Yesterday I tried to follow all the steps to buy the ticket with PAL. The flight Cebu – Coron (Busuanga) has restricted luggage as it is a Q400 aircraft and does not allow luggage at the basic fare. When testing other routes, I verified that if I allowed once the basic rate was selected, in the next step I chose additional luggage. What I do not know is if I buy the basic rate, then I can, once I have the reservation code, choose 10 kg. That way it would be cheaper. I understand that the hand luggage that can be transported is always up to 7 kg, on any plane, even on the Q400, is not it?
