The Modfather is coming back to Nijmegen for a show in Doornroosje.

British musician Paul Weller has been successful during the seventies with The Jam, during the eighties with The Style Council and from the nineties on as a solo artist. The English press regards him as the man who reinvigorated the Britpop genre.

Paul Weller is one of the most influential pop artists around and was nicknamed ‘The Modfather’ by the Britpop generation. Blur, Oasis and Arctic Monkeys see him as a massive source of inspiration. Weller had major hits like ‘Wild Wood’, ‘You Do Something to Me’ and ‘The Changingman’ and released twelve solo albums, including the widely successful “Stanley Road”.

Nowadays, Weller has been known to puts some of his hits with The Jam in The Style Council in his setlists. Recent years have been quite fruitful for Weller; he wrote the soundtrack for the movie “Jawbone” and released the album “A Kind Revolution”. Paul Weller offers an evening of high quality British pop music.

The ten-date jaunt opens on May 11 in Lille and concludes in Tilburg, Netherlands on May 23.

Following on from the news that he will perform at three Forestry England ‘Forest Live’ concerts in the UK, Paul Weller has announced a number of European concert dates, with shows in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Weller’s continental shows open on May 11 at L’Aeronef in Lille. The singer-songwriter then plays concerts in Antwerp, Berlin, Hamburg, Köln, Nijmegan and Amsterdam before the tour finished at the Poppodium in Tilburg, Netherlands, on May 23.

Following his European jaunt, Weller is set to play live dates as part of ‘Forest Live’ 2023 . The Jam’s former frontman will take to the stage at the UK’s Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire, Cannock Chase Forest in Staffordshire and Thetford Forest in Suffolk in June this year. The tour will follow on from the publication of his new book, Magic: A Journal of Song in April. Magic combines a selection of over 100 lyrics from across his musical life, from The Jam’s punk sensibilities to the genre-defying Style Council , through to a remarkable 30-year solo career.

His third Genesis edition, Magic is narrated by Weller and illustrated with more than 450 photographs and pieces of ephemera throughout. A revealing commentary garnered over a series of conversations with journalist and author Dylan Jones covers the songs, the stories and inspirations behind them, and all of the 28 albums of Weller’s ever-evolving musical journey.

Great evening in beautiful surroundings at Westonbirt arboretum. The sun came out just as the support band finished and the weather stayed dry. Weller put on a polished and professional performance, a little bit of audience interaction but mostly he was about delivering the tracks. There was a spattering of his well known songs as he started, but it was also good to hear some others. The band were excellent and as the evening drew on, the classics started to come out including, of course 'you do something to me' which was a special moment. They did a couple of encores and finished with 'Town called malice' at which point the crowd went crazy. A great way to finish. Overall a great performance and Weller's voice still sounds strong and vibrant.

A Paul Weller concert can be a bit of a bit or miss affair depending upon what mood he is in and what songs he wants to sing. So it was lucky for us that he decided to cover his complete repertoire for his Opera House performance. The Jam, Style Council and his solo work were all covered in full and with a band so tight, they added to the experience. Weller remains the master of cool and throughout the night he delivered what the fans wanted, while promoting his new material with equal aplomb.

Mr Weller seemed more relaxed than ive seen him before , even chatting with the audience.

Did a full 2 1/2 hour set full of classics from his own career and some awesome tracks off a kind revolution mixed with a couple of style council favourites and to make sure the ardent jam fans got a look in did about seven of there hits.

To which the crowd always responds.

Paul is a master of his art and can raise the audience at will.

All in all id say this was an Excellent paul weller set couldnt fault it at all 10/10 .

Music fans often extend their favorite artists some grace as they age. We’ll buy a ticket to a Vegas residency even though the diva’s voice has gotten raspy; we’ll look the other way when a favorite soul singer attempts to get back on the charts by working with an EDM producer. Fortunately for fans of Paul Weller, the 12 songs on 66 (released on May 24, the day before his 66th birthday) can stand alongside anything he’s written in his solo era. The British singer-songwriter’s best-known work is still with the Jam and the Style Council in the 70s and 80s, but he’s been making reliable music under his own name for much longer. Weller sounds less rootsy now than he did in the mid-90s, and 66 combines a troubadour’s storytelling sensibilities with rock instrumentation. Weller isn’t an old punk telling tales to feed our nostalgia; he combines reflection and a bit of middle-aged melancholy on “Nothing” and “A Glimpse of You,” while his integration of synths and mellotron on “Flying Fish” demonstrates a flair for experimentation. He may be decades away from the version of himself whose worship of mods and fascination with transgressive politics shaped the slightly sneering mod rock of the Jam and the faux Marxism of the Style Council, but 66 is the work of a man still in pursuit of justice. “I Woke Up” follows a nameless unhoused protagonist (“Wearing someone else’s shoes I found / In bins around the town”) attempting to make sense of life, and for guidance on its video, Weller and director Johnny Harris turned to UK nonprofit St. Mungo’s, one of Great Britain’s largest charities supporting unhoused people. (St. Mungo’s has since been using it as a fundraising tool.) On his current tour, Weller has been concentrating on recent work, but he still sprinkles his sets with new versions of old hits, including the Jam’s “That’s Entertainment.”
