Every Cruise Line's Requirements for COVID Vaccines, Testing

A guide to every major cruise line's health requirements for safe sailing.

royal cruise covid rules

Cruise lines have shifted their requirements for passengers, making cruising accessible to practically everyone. Many popular cruise lines have eliminated the vaccine and pre-embarkation test as the industry is beginning to shift away from mandatory vaccines and testing.

The changes began shortly after the CDC ended a pandemic-era policy of publicly displaying COVID-19 cases onboard, different cruise lines to the public in July 2022. For those looking to check current COVID-19 trends onboard the CDC urges direct contact with the cruise line, and the organization will continue to monitor and offer guidelines to ships.

Below, we break down each line's list of regulations to sail as well as what travelers need to know to plan.

Do you need a Covid vaccination to sail with Royal Caribbean?

Yes, you need a Covid-19 vaccination onboard Royal Caribbean, with specific vaccine requirements varying by port of departure and by age group.

For cruises departing from U.S homeports and Barbados, all guests age 12 and over must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination, with the final dose having to be administered at least 14 days before sailing.

If your child is turning 12 before or after day two of your cruise, the line offers you to move your cruise date to give you more time or to cancel your reservation for a full refund.

If your child turns 12 before day two of your cruise, your child will just have to complete all COVID-19 testing requirements for unvaccinated children.

Royal Caribbean encourages "fully vaccinated guests receive a booster dose when they become eligible to do so, though it is currently not required. It is highly likely many destinations will soon begin to require booster doses for all eligible guests to be considered fully vaccinated. We will notify booked guests as this guidance evolves."

For cruises departing from other international ports outside the U.S, customers should consult the Royal Caribbean website or talk to their travel advisor.

When are cruise lines still requiring COVID testing? Here's what passengers should know.

After the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ended its COVID-19 cruise ship program last month, many cruise lines changed their health and safety protocols and dropped some testing requirements .

Major brands like Royal Caribbean International and Carnival Cruise Line rolled back their COVID-19 rules and removed testing for vaccinated passengers on some voyages, while other lines scrapped them for all sailings.

Tests are still required in a number of cases, though. Policies may vary depending on local requirements at various destinations. Here's what passengers need to know about cruise protocols, from testing to face masks and social distancing.

Cruise lines change COVID-19 rules: Carnival, Royal Caribbean and more drop pre-cruise testing after end of CDC program

Is the cruise industry coming back?: After more than 2 years under a COVID cloud, the answer is yes.

When do cruise lines still require COVID-19 testing?

► Carnival Cruise Line will require vaccinated passengers to test only on trips 16 or more nights or where required by local rules, including on voyages to Canada and Bermuda, beginning Sept. 6, according to a press release.

Unvaccinated travelers or those who do not show proof of vaccination will be required to "present the results of a negative PCR or antigen test taken within three days of embarkation." In the U.S., guests under 5 are exempt from vaccine and testing rules.

►Royal Caribbean will require vaccinated guests 5 and older to test on U.S. cruises 10 nights or longer beginning Sept. 5, according to its website . They must test within three days of boarding. Unvaccinated guests age 5 and up need to take a test within three days of sailing on all trips. The changes are subject to local regulations.

►Celebrity Cruises will require vaccinated passengers to test only on voyages that are 10 or more nights where local rules permit starting Sept 5., according to its website . They must do so within three days of sailing. Unvaccinated guests 5 and up must take a test within three days prior to their trip for U.S. sailings.

►Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. will drop all pre-cruise requirements for vaccinated passengers age 12 and over as of Sept. 3, according to a news release .

Guests age 12 and older who are unvaccinated or do not show proof of vaccination will still need to test within 72 hours before boarding. The company said it "continues to strongly recommend all guests be up to date on vaccination protocols and test at their convenience prior to travel." Changes are also subject to local requirements.

► MSC Cruises will no longer require fully vaccinated U.S. residents to take a test before boarding on sailings from U.S. ports to the Bahamas and the Caribbean as of Sept. 1. Unvaccinated passengers age 2 and older still need to show proof of a proof of a "lab-administered negative COVID-19 viral test negative test" taken within three days of their cruise, according to its website .

Passengers 2 and older who are not U.S. residents must "show proof of a negative antigen or RT-PCR lab administered test" taken within three days of their sailing, regardless of vaccination status, according to its website . The line's policies vary by destination.

►Princess Cruises will require travelers on voyages 16 nights or longer to "take a supervised test within three days of embarkation (guests 5 and older)," as of Sept. 6, according to a news release. That rule also applies to guests on full Panama Canal transits and certain other voyages.

Passengers who are unvaccinated need to show a negative result from a self-test taken within three days of embarkation on sailings 15 nights or less. Unvaccinated children under 5 are exempt. The changes are subject to local regulations.

►Holland America Line will not require testing for vaccinated guests on sailings 15 nights or shorter starting Sept. 6, according to a news release. Unvaccinated passengers age 5 and up must show a negative result from a medically supervised test or self-test taken within three days of embarkation.

Those changes are subject to local restrictions, and exclude full Panama Canal transits and certain other sailings.

All guests 5 and up must provide "a medically supervised COVID-19 test with written negative result" on cruises 16 nights or more. Travelers need to test within three days of embarkation, and unvaccinated travelers must still request an exemption.

►Disney Cruise Line will no longer require fully vaccinated guests traveling on the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wonder and Disney Wish to take a test before their cruise beginning Sept. 23, according to its website . For sailings on the Disney Magic, the change will take effect Nov. 7.

Travelers who are not fully vaccinated must continue to show proof of a negative test test taken one to three days before their trip, though they will no longer need to take an additional test at the terminal on embarkation day.

What kind of COVID-19 tests do cruise lines require?

Cruise lines still set criteria for the tests they accept. Carnival said it will accept self-administered tests as well as lab-administered tests from unvaccinated guests on voyages that are 15 nights or less beginning Sept. 6, according to a news release.

Royal Caribbean will also allow passengers on U.S. cruises to take a home test or one "professionally administered by a health professional" starting Sept. 5 according to its website . Celebrity will accept self-tests beginning on the same date, as well.

Those changes are subject to local requirements.

Norwegian Cruise Line, meanwhile, will require "proof of a medically supervised negative PCR or Antigen test" for unvaccinated passengers 12 and up, according to its website . Travelers should check with their cruise line for their specific rules.

First-time cruisers: 3 things to know before stepping foot on the ship

What kind of on-board testing requirements do cruise lines have?

Cruise lines still have on-board protocols in place, as well. For its part, Carnival requires passengers who are exposed to or in close contact with anyone who tests positive for COVID or displays symptoms to be tested, along with their close contacts, according to its website . Those passengers may have to quarantine in their rooms until medical staff clears them.

Other cruise lines have similar protocols in place, like Norwegian, which advises passengers who have COVID symptoms while sailing to contact the ship's medical center, which is equipped to test on board, per its website . Royal Caribbean Group's namesake brand, Royal Caribbean International, also offers testing to travelers who feel sick, and its medical lab "allows for rapid, accurate onsite PCR testing with results in under an hour, alongside a multitude of other evaluative tests," its website reads.

What other protocols do cruise lines have in place?

► Masks: Carnival highly recommends guests wear masks in public indoor areas except when eating or drinking, and "when in large congregate events outdoors where physical distancing cannot be maintained," per its website . The cruise line also recommends masking during embarkation and debarkation and requires masks in the medical center. Crew members also wear masks indoors at all times.

On Royal Caribbean International, masks are optional for passengers who are vaccinated. They are recommended for unvaccinated kids. MSC has a similar policy . On Princess sailings, masks are recommended but not mandatory in most areas of the ship, though the cruise line notes on its website that "you may need to wear them in select venues or certain situations." Masks are optional on all Norwegian voyages.

►Cleaning: Many cruise lines continue to emphasize heightened cleaning on board. Norwegian, for example, has "enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols" in place with EPA-approved disinfectants, and is making use of medical-grade air filters, according to its website . Royal Caribbean similarly boosted its cleaning regimen, including cleaning frequently used places like elevators and stairways every two hours. Crew must also take continual training classes and "refreshers," per its website .

MSC is also utilizing "hospital-grade disinfectants, electrostatic sprayers, increased cleaning frequency and a focus on high-traffic, frequently-touched areas," according to its website .

►Physical distancing: Cruise lines may recommend social distancing during parts of trips. Royal Caribbean International recommends distancing in select parts of the ship indicated by signage.

Cruise lines may also change their policies as needed.

"Our member lines continuously monitor health conditions onboard and employ health and safety protocols commensurate with those conditions," Anne Madison, a spokesperson for Cruise Lines International Association, told USA TODAY in an email. "This may result in cruise lines adjusting protocols when appropriate in consultation with medical and other health experts in order to continue to make science-driven and medically informed decisions."

Passengers can find more information on ship protocols on their cruise line's website.

Carnival Cruise Lines

Vaccination Requirements: In order to set sail on a Carnival cruise, travelers must complete a pre-boarding vaccine attestation confirming their status as fully vaccinated individuals. As current CDC guidelines define a "fully vaccinated" person as having two doses of an approved vaccine, passengers are not required to have a booster shot on most Carnival cruises. Some exceptions apply to international sailings.

Testing Requirements: With the exception of sailings to Bermuda and Canada, no fully vaccinated passengers will be required to test before sailing on cruises that are 5 days or less. On cruises 6 days or more, all guests are required to take an official COVID-19 test before boarding. They can take a PCR test 72 hours prior to sailing, or an antigen test two days prior to sailing. All unvaccinated guests ages 2 and older are required to receive a lab-administered PCR or antigen test up to 3 days before sailing.

Mask Mandates: While masks are highly encouraged in highly populated areas such as dining halls or casinos, they are not required at any point of the sailing.

Destination Requirements: Depending on port visits, rules and regulations for destinations will vary based on local protocols. Unvaccinated guests over 12, however, are prohibited from debarking unless booked with a Carnival tour. Children under 12 may debark with their vaccinated family members.

Here's what you can expect if you get COVID-19 on a cruise ship according to a Royal Caribbean passenger who was given the option to quarantine on the ship even after the cruise ended

  • Numerous cruise ships have lifted their COVID-19 vaccine and masking requirements.
  • If a passenger contracts the virus, cruise ships offer medical treatment and future cruise credits.
  • The CDC advises travellers to stay in their cabin and notify the onboard medical team if they get COVID-19.

Insider Today

With travel restrictions easing, cruise ships lifting their COVID-19 vaccine and masking requirements, and some cruise ships that our own Insider reporters found quite crowded , it begs the question: What happens if you contract the virus during your time aboard the ship?

Insider spoke with Matt Hochberg who has been on hundreds of cruises and runs a website called RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com that shares travel tips and advice for those interested in booking a cruise. The website has no affiliation with the cruise line of the same name.

In June, Hochberg was sailing on a Royal Caribbean ship in Alaska with his family when he began to have a scratchy throat. He brought his own COVID tests — something he advises passengers to do — and tested positive. He informed the cabin crew immediately and was then relegated to his cabin for the remainder of the trip.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises travelers to stay in their cabin and notify the onboard medical team if symptoms of the virus occur.

Hochberg told Insider that the treatment he received during his time on the ship was fantastic. In less than an hour, a medical team consisting of a doctor and nurse tested him again as well as his family who tested negative. Both the medical team and the guest services team called him regularly to check on him. Doctors provided him with over-the-counter medication and the guest services team helped him plan his disembarkment process.

Related stories

Because Hochberg became sick toward the end of his trip, he only had to isolate in his cabin for one day. Guest services provided him with numerous options for his disembarkment plan, including allowing him to stay on board and finish his quarantine until he tested negative. Hochberg decided to disembark where the ship was docked, in Vancouver, Canada, and drive his rental car back to the US.

While contracting COVID can happen anywhere, Hochberg's advice for those boarding a cruise is to be aware of the cruise line's policies and risks.

"It's important to understand what could possibly happen because I think ignorance is not an excuse for anything at this point," he told Insider.

Medical attention and complimentary amenities on various cruise lines

Guests who test positive for COVID-19 on a Carnival cruise will need to isolate until their medical team says it is safe to resume activities, according to the company's website . Carnival offers regular visits from medical staff either in-person or through teleconsultation and guests will have access to complimentary amenities like Wi-Fi and room service.

Royal Caribbean

Depending on when you booked your cruise, passengers on Royal Caribbean ships will have access to varying COVID-19 assistance at no extra charge. For guests who made a reservation on or after August 8, 2022, Royal Caribbean will cover the costs of COVID-19-related medical treatments onboard if you test positive.

The company will also offer a pro-rated cruise fare refund if a cruise is cut short for reasons related to COVID-19, for cruises departing on or before September 30, 2022.

On October 21, Princess cruise line updated its COVID policy to welcome all guests, regardless of vaccination status. Anyone presenting symptoms of the virus during their time on board will be tested and reviewed by the company's medical staff.

According to the company's website , a positive case, that does not require admission to the ship's medical center or medical disembarkation, will be moved to a different cabin during the isolation period.

Celebrity cruises offer rapid testing and on-site medical teams. In the event that a guest contracts the virus on their vacation, the company will cover the cost of medical treatment onboard, and the person and their party can stay on the ship for free to complete any required quarantine plans.

Future cruise credits

Most cruise lines offer future cruise credits if a passenger gets sick with COVID-19, but Hochberg said that process has been challenging. Since his trip in June, he's only partially received his refund.

Despite getting the virus, he characterized his experience as positive.

"If you get sick on a cruise, they're going to take care of you. The care that I received was complimentary," he said.

In July, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ended its  COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships , putting the onus on cruise lines to create their own standards.

On Monday, Australian health authorities confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Coral Princess, one of the first major cruise liners to dock in Western Australia in over two years, according to The Australian Broadcasting Corporation .

Cruises are adding rules as delta cases surge. Here’s how to keep track.

From vaccine mandates to more masking, covid-era cruising is changing just as it started to set sail

royal cruise covid rules

Just as the cruise industry was starting to regain its footing, operators are having to change course as the highly transmissible delta variant sends coronavirus cases soaring again.

Most cruise lines are requiring the vast majority of passengers to be vaccinated, a status that allowed them to avoid extra testing and to enjoy most parts of a cruise without wearing a mask.

But in recent days, some of the world’s largest cruise lines have said that even passengers who are vaccinated will need to provide proof of a negative coronavirus test before boarding.

And some operators — including Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Holland America Line — are adding mask requirements for everyone in crowded indoor spaces such as elevators, shops and casinos.

The rapidly changing guidelines mean the rules that were in place when someone booked a cruise may not be the same ones passengers need to follow when they actually sail away.

So what do potential cruise passengers need to know before booking or boarding?

Six passengers on Royal Caribbean cruise test positive for covid despite vaccine requirement, testing

Cruise protocols are evolving quickly

Carnival Cruise Line said Wednesday that it was “adapting to the evolving public health situation” with its temporary changes to mask and testing requirements. The company requires most passengers to be fully vaccinated, with some exemptions available for children too young or adults who cannot get the shot.

In its announcement requiring everyone, including those who are vaccinated, to wear masks on elevators and in some other indoor areas starting Saturday, the cruise line pointed to similar measures in place in Las Vegas casinos, Broadway theaters and Disney theme parks. As of Aug. 14, Carnival is also requiring all passengers, regardless of vaccination status, to show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken within three days of boarding.

“These new requirements are being implemented to protect our guests and crew while on board, and to continue to provide confidence to our homeports and destinations that we are doing our part to support their efforts to protect public health and safety,” Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in a statement. “We expect these requirements will be temporary and appreciate the cooperation of our guests.”

Princess Cruises and Holland America Line, both part of Carnival Corp., are also requiring vaccinated passengers to test negative before boarding — either immediately or effective soon — and wear masks on elevators and in other indoor areas such as entertainment venues and shops.

This past week, Royal Caribbean International announced its own tweak, mandating that all passengers be tested before taking a cruise in the United States, whether they are vaccinated or not.

Royal Caribbean International CEO Michael Bayley wrote on his Facebook page that he realized the decision would comfort some guests — but also make many unhappy.

Covid will find its way onto cruises. The critical thing is what happens next.

“We are trying our very best to provide a safe and healthy and fun vacation for all our guests our crew and the communities we visit during these challenging times,” he wrote.

For U.S. cruises leaving Friday through Sept. 6, all Celebrity Cruises passengers over the age of 2 — even if vaccinated — will also need to hand over a negative coronavirus test at boarding.

When protocols change, operators are emailing those updates to booked passengers and making the new information public online.

All cruise lines have dedicated health and safety pages, from Carnival’s “Have Fun. Be Safe.” page to Royal Caribbean’s “Healthy Sail Center,” Norwegian’s “ Sail Safe ” site, Princess Cruises’ “ Cruise Health ” page and Celebrity’s “ Healthy at Sea ” section. Many of those sites link to specific departure ports for details on vaccination and testing requirements, mask mandates and other rules.

Ships get color-coded based on their covid cases

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , more than a third of the 64 ships that are operating or seeking to operate in U.S. waters have had a reported case of the virus on board in the last week or so. Of those, at least 13 are now sailing with paying guests on board.

On a CDC table that was last updated Thursday, ships can be designated as green, orange, yellow, red or gray on the site. Orange means a vessel has reported cases of coronavirus in the past seven days but has not met the threshold for a CDC investigation; yellow means the ship has met the parameters for an investigation.

If a ship moves to red, that means the number of cases in the past seven days is “at or above” the threshold for passenger and crew infections.

“Based on CDC’s investigation, additional precautions, such as returning to port immediately or delaying the next voyage, will be taken if it is suspected that continuing normal operations may subject on board travelers or newly arriving travelers to disease,” the CDC says on the site, referring to ships designated as red.

But detailed information (or sometimes any information) about those infections can be hard to come by, depending on the cruise line. Operators are rarely releasing information about positive cases, though many are offering statements when questioned by reporters.

Carnival’s new mask policy went into place early — on Wednesday night — aboard Carnival Vista, where the company is “managing a small number of positive cases on board,” spokesman Vance Gulliksen said in an email. He would not say how many cases, whether the passengers were vaccinated or what their condition was. The ship is sailing from Galveston, Tex.

“We have identified and tested close contacts and anyone who tested positive is in isolation,” the statement said. He said the voyage would continue as planned.

Carnival Vista’s status is listed as “yellow” on the CDC table .

Norwegian Cruise sues Florida over DeSantis ban on vaccine passports

As of Thursday, the ships on the CDC’s site were listed as either green, orange or yellow. According to the CDC, further information about cases on board would need to come from the cruise lines.

But cruise companies including Carnival, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Royal Caribbean International did not provide information in response to questions about most of their ships that were listed as orange or yellow.

Cruise lines have said they anticipate positive cases on board; their protocols are meant to keep those cases isolated and prevent outbreaks.

Celebrity Cruises spokeswoman Susan Lomax said its three passenger ships on the chart — all listed as yellow — had either already returned to green and had not yet been updated on the chart or were about to return to green on Friday. Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have consistently provided detailed statements and information about positive cases on ships in response to questions since their ships started sailing again in North America in June.

Bayley, the Royal Caribbean CEO, has even posted updates on his public Facebook page about positive cases and new rules.

“Even with the vast majority of our onboard population highly vaccinated we are seeing more covid positive cases with vaccinated guests,” he wrote last week after six passengers on a Bahamas cruise tested positive.

Still, for everyday cruisers who don’t have access to press contacts, it can be difficult to dig up specific information.

The newest status on cruise ships: Being vaccinated

Attorney Jim Walker, who runs the Cruise Law News blog, said he checks media sources and sets up alerts for specific search terms. But short of that, he said, people who are planning a cruise don’t have a lot of options to research the situation on board.

“The CDC color tracking system seems to be a good place to start, but it doesn’t really give you the true details,” he said.

How to spot the CDC rule followers

A ship will be marked as gray if the operator chooses not to follow the CDC’s conditional sailing order — a set of rules that ships needed to follow to start sailing again after shutting down last year — on a voluntary basis. The CDC order required 95 percent of crew and guests to be vaccinated, among other rules.

A Florida lawsuit challenged the CDC’s authority earlier this year, and a judge agreed in June that the agency had overreached. As of late July, the CDC’s rules became mere recommendations for cruises in Florida.

According to CDC spokeswoman Caitlin Shockey, cruise lines that are on the color-coded chart have all confirmed that they are following the order. She said one that is expecting to start visiting Miami soon, Crystal Serenity, is in discussion with the agency about compliance.

A Crystal statement said the company is “complying with all CDC onboard recommendations and guidelines” for the ship, which is sailing in the Bahamas, except for a requirement to be out of service for two weeks. “We continue to have an open and good dialogue with CDC on this matter,” the statement said.

If any ships were to be marked as gray, they would still have to report cases of illness or death and be subject to inspection. They also could be detained if sanitary measures were necessary to prevent the “introduction, transmission or spread of communicable diseases,” the CDC said.

In a statement, the CDC said that due to the phased approach of the conditional sailing order — which includes testing plans and onboard protocols — the agency “is confident that cruising can resume safely under the [order].”

“These factors, in addition to the availability of covid-19 vaccines, make it unlikely that a ship will need to return to port due to a covid-19 outbreak,” the statement said.

Do I need a Covid test for cruises? Latest updates including Royal Caribbean, P&O and Saga

Saga, Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, P&O Cruises, Princess and Fred Olsen all have different rules around coronavirus vaccination and testing requirements

The Majestic Princess cruise ship is seen docked in Sydney

  • 16:44, 23 Nov 2022
  • Updated 09:53, 24 Nov 2022

The Covid testing and vaccination requirements are different for different cruise lines, so it's crucial you follow the right ones.

The cruise industry was battered more than most during the coronavirus pandemic, with the majority of the world's fleet unable to take passengers for over a year.

Understandably, those operating ships are keen to avoid coronavirus outbreaks while out at sea and the minimise the prospect of quarantining guests.

While coronavirus infection rates and deaths are much lower in the UK and other Western countries now, restrictions designed to stop its spread remain in place in many nations - so it's important to check local rules ahead of travel.

Here are six of the biggest cruise companies and their current rules for UK travellers:

Royal Caribbean

On boarding day in Southampton, vaccinated guests living in the UK no longer need to take a test on arrival at the terminal, but will be asked to present their negative PCR test and Covid vaccine certificate.

Unvaccinated guests from two to 17-years-old living in the UK will be required to take a complimentary rapid antigen test on arrival at the cruise terminal and receive a negative result in order to sail, and will be asked to present their negative PCR test result.

Protocols to cruising have been lifted on Princess, meaning "for most voyages there are no longer vaccination or testing requirements", the company states on its website.

To make sure of the rules on your specific cruise, you can use Princess's CruiseHealth tool .

P&O cruises

Testing is not mandatory but it is "highly recommended" that all customers take one three days before departure.

All adults must be fully vaccinated.

Guests aged five to 17 years who are not fully vaccinated will need to take a lateral flow/antigen test in the three days before, or on the day of departure.

You’ll no longer need to provide a test certificate, but you must be able to provide photo evidence of your negative test if asked - simply write your name and the date of testing on a piece of paper and include in the photo.

Guests aged four years and under remain exempt from all pre-travel vaccination and testing requirements.

Disney Cruise Line

Fully vaccinated guests will no longer be required to provide a negative Covid test upon embarkation.

Guests who do not qualify as fully vaccinated will still be required to provide proof of a negative Covid test taken one to three days prior to sailing.

All guests aged 12 and above must be fully vaccinated, and those who have been in contact with anyone with Covid within seven days of the cruise leaving should not travel.

All guests will be required to take their own lateral flow test at home within 24 hours of the departure date of the cruise and bring the proof of a negative test result to show at check-in.

If you arrive at the port without confirmation of a negative result, you will be asked to complete a £25 test at the terminal, which will result in a delay at check-in.

All customers travelling with Saga Holidays until 31 December 2022 must be fully vaccinated against Covid.

All UK Government testing requirements have been removed. However, a pre-departure test by the destination to be visited may still be required, so you should check local rules.

Safety FOR OUR GUESTS & CREW

Safety aboard our ships, safety ashore.

We have developed a comprehensive and multi-layered set of health and safety protocols that span the entire cruise journey, guided by the expert advice from our Healthy Sail Panel. We will continuously refine and improve these protocols as science, technology and our knowledge of the virus improve and will provide guests with all relevant information or any changes to protocols prior to setting sail.

700x475

We will initially control the guest capacity onboard each ship to provide even more space per guest and allow for physical distancing while onboard.

Contactless food and beverage service will be provided across all ships with service staff stationed ship-wide, including all restaurants and lounges.

All guests will be required to engage in frequent handwashing and hand sanitizer will be prominently placed and easily accessible throughout the ship.

Daily temperature checks and ongoing symptom screening will be practiced so you can feel confident your fellow guests aren’t fellow carriers. But don’t worry, looking hot is still okay.

Safety Aboard our Ships

With Sail Safe, our industry leading Health & Safety Programme, we will continue to put our guests and our crew members first by keeping everyone safe and healthy on board our ships and in the communities we visit. In addition to requiring our crew to be up-to-date with all their vaccinations, we will continue to evolve our already robust science-backed programme to broaden our cleaning, sanitation and air filtration technologies across our fleet.

With Sail Safe, our industry leading Health & Safety Program, we will continue to put our guests first by keeping you safe and healthy on board our ships. Here’s what we’re doing.

Continuous Ship-Wide Cleaning & Disinfection Measures

Upgraded medical-grade air filters, enhanced onboard medical teams & health services.

We constantly monitor the health environment across the globe and will modify or cancel itineraries to affected areas as needed.

We’re partnering with our local destinations and tour operators to extend our comprehensive health & safety protocols to shore.

Guests are free to explore ports of call on their own, according to protocols in each specific port, and can purchase shore excursions as they wish. Face coverings may be required in certain settings to comply with local requirements, for example in terminals for embarkation and disembarkation or at ports of call. We will continue to monitor public health guidance, including from the CDC, at the time of your voyage and modify requirements accordingly.

*Due to local government regulations, guests may be required to take a Norwegian Cruise Line shore excursion in select ports. For additional information on this and other destination specific requirements, please visit the Cruise Travel Requirements by Country page.
