British GP and F1 Factory Tour

British gp and f1 factory tour 2025 show packages, race information, introduction show packages.

Grand Prix Tours is once again heading to Silverstone Circuit and the 2025 British Grand Prix . As England is the birthplace of modern day F1 and also the unofficial home to the elite racing series we had to be sure this trip is more than just a weekend at the races.

Guest of Grand Prix Tours are treated to an incredible series of events including a visit to the British Motor Museum and to the Silverstone Museum. On Monday after the race, included in our package, is a private behind the scenes look into  the Oracle Red Bull Factory team facilities .

This jammed packed weekend was designed with true F1 racing enthusiasts and gear heads in mind. Grand Prix Tours has more than 40 years of consecutive attends to this event and guests can rest assured we have thought of everything for a perfect race weekend in England.

Last years race did not disappoint with pit stop timing and tire compound strategy making the difference over pure driver talent. Ferrari (once again) managed to spoil LeClerc’s three place jump start by going with intermediates on a much too dry track. Piastri’s assured second place or better was terminated when the normally savvy McLaren pit wall chose not to double-stack. Norris going to the soft compound, for his last stint, cost him the win and two podium slots while Verstappen’s personal call for hards compensated for his previous lack luster pace. The English born drivers wouldn’t be denied. Hamilton and Mercedes, surviving Red Bull’s late charge to claim the top podium spot was a crowd pleaser.

Good viewing seats were gobbled up on the opening day of ticket sales last year and we expect the same again for 2025. GPTours, as a preferred tour operator, still has our preferred locations seats to accompany our full-service packages. We don’t expect them to last too long as each race these days seems to sell out in a few days or less. Come join us in 2025 for what will surely be another unique F1 experience.

Call  949 719 3350 to book your trip or contact us at [email protected] with any questions. Click Show Packages  to learn more and to see details and pricing.

Went down with Scott and a group to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Excellent trip not too big a group size, very friendly and knowledgeable hosts, great fun. It was our first time and Scott made it very memorable for us. Already planning to book when they go on sale for next year. Thank you

Attended Murray Travels trip to the Silverstone Grand Prix. It was so well organised and couldn’t be happier with the service. Scott and Sarah were extremely attentive the whole trip and took any stresses from booking a holiday away. A very special and memorable trip to say the least, thank you!

Terrific service, there was always a real personnel touch from the team here from both Scott and Sarah. Great value for money. I would strongly recommend.

Everything was taken care of, and the team were on hand to help with everything!

The Destination

Silverstone

The fast turns of Copse, Maggotts and Becketts are world famous. Stowe corner is the scene of many overtaking manoeuvre, while Brooklands and Luffield add a more technical challenge. Silverstone is held in high regard by all the drivers for its circuit, atmosphere and sadly, weather.

Thousands of fans have had their afternoons ruined by the typical British weather but without a splash of rain, you wouldn’t have the true experience of a weekend at Silverstone, the place where it all began.

The track still retains some of the WWII runways that were used as an RAF base. After the War finished in 1945, the site became abandoned before some locals decided to race around a makeshift track. In 1948 the site was leased by the Royal Automobile Club, who was looking for a place to stage a grands prix. The inaugural British Grands Prix was won by Italian Luigi Villoresi.

Top Grandstand Locations:

Much has been written about the Maggots and Becketts complex of curves and rightly so, but Copse, the right hander that precedes them, is equally impressive. At 265km/h it is the second fastest corner on the circuit after Maggots, the latter actually being taken flat out. The drivers approach Copse at around 300km/h on Silverstone F1 circuit in 7th, sometimes shifting down to 6th for the blind entry, only very lightly kissing the brakes to avoid upsetting the balance of the car, before almost immediately applying full throttle at the exit. The time taken from the driver lifting off to being fully back on it again is less than one second. The challenge for engine engineers is therefore to allow the engine to effectively function as a switch, going from “fully off” to “fully on” almost instantaneously.

Vale is the last big stop of the lap, with drivers typically attempting to exploit the braking zone as much as possible to find that last extra tenth in Qualifying. In contrast to The Loop, the drivers approach Vale at high speed, typically around 275-280km/h. Braking hard, it is possible to lock the rear wheels and compromise the entry and, in so doing, the exit. The drivers carry forward this penalty into Club, the 180° opening right hander that leads them onto the start finish straight. Get this corner right and the driver can be up a tenth, get it wrong and he can easily lose half a second. Engine engineers can help by providing the correct level of overrun support to stabilise the rear under braking, but they face almost the same conundrum! Too little and the driver locks the rears, too much and the driver struggles to slow the car down, potentially then locking the fronts.

Recommended Grandstands

Club Corner This is a fantastic spot to see the cars exit the incredibly fast Stowe corner before entering the tight and technical Vale chicane. You can see the podium ceremony from this covered stand and there are large TV screens too.

Woodcote B This is a great place to see the cars head on down the DRS zone of the Wellington Straight before they make a move into Priory and Brooklands. You can then follow them around the right-hander of Luffield before they scream past the stand and you lose sight of them as they throw the car to the flat-out right-hander of Copse. Screens are also located in front of the stand.

Luffield One of our favourite covered stands, we usually recommend to all of our returning clients. Much better than the Luffield corner (uncovered) stand by the museum. The atmosphere is always amazing and you can see some stunning overtakes like the ‘through goes Hamilton’ move in 2022. You can see the entrance to Priory and Brooklands, as well as following the cars through Luffield and Woodcote before they fly down towards Copse corner. TV screens are also visible from this stand to keep up with the action around the rest of the circuit.

Hamilton Straight A If you have never been to a Grand Prix before then this is the one for you. You will be right on the Main Start/finish straight with unbelievable views of the Starting Grid, Finish Line, Pit Lane & team garages. Your seat in the Hamilton Straight A Grandstand will give you an amazing view of the pre-race preparations, race start and post-race celebrations and interviews. You can also see the cars exiting Club corner and multiple TV screens will help you follow the racing around the rest of Silverstone.

How to Get to Silverstone for the 2025 British Grand Prix

silverstone coach trips

The best ways to get to Silverstone for the 2025 British Grand Prix. Advice for F1 fans on driving, trains, buses & more.

  • The 2025 British Grand Prix is on July 4-6
  • Tickets are not yet on sale for 2025, but you can already secure an F1 Experiences Ticket Package
  • Accommodation in Milton Keynes or Northampton with daily circuit transfers are available with Official Ticket Packages from F1 Experiences

Silverstone is located approximately 130km (80 miles) North East of London in the direction of Birmingham. It’s a rural circuit that doesn’t benefit from great access. That’s probably why so many fans camp near the circuit each year, saving the daily hassle of negotiating the heavy traffic on the small country lanes to and from the circuit. It’s not all bad though, unless it rains! Depending on where you decide to stay, here are the best ways to get to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

Closest Airports to Silverstone

If you are flying into the UK, there is a good choice of airports which are relatively close to Silverstone, including London’s five main airports: Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW), London City (LCY), Stansted (STN) and Luton (LTN). The closest of the five airports to Silverstone is Luton, but it’s still approximately 50 miles (80km) away. Birmingham Airport (BHX) is a similar distance from the circuit. Luton in particularly has a good selection of discount carrier flights from different European destinations. By the same token, Silverstone is also only a train ride away from London, and there are also dedicated coach services running from the capital to the circuit on Grand Prix weekend, so it’s worth considering staying in London and making the most of the city by night.

silverstone coach trips

Flights to the UK

  • From Europe: there’s no shortage of flights from Europe to the UK with both flag carriers and discount airlines. Check Ryanair & EasyJet for the best deals.
  • From the USA: most direct flights from the USA arrive at London Heathrow airport (LHR), though some do fly into Gatwick (LGW). The flight time is from 8-11 hours.
  • From Australia: expect a travel time of at least 24 hours to fly from Australia to the UK, with most carriers stopping once along the way. Flights from Australia to the UK are also very expensive during the European summer. Qantas flies direct from Perth to London, while Qantas flights from other Sydney and Melbourne make a stop in Dubai. Middle Eastern carriers such as Emirates and Qatar Airways also offer good connections from Australia to London.

Trains & Ferries from Europe to the UK

  • Eurostar : Western European visitors can also make use of the quick and affordable Eurostar train service from Paris and Lyon. The direct service via the Channel Tunnel takes just 2.5 hours from Paris Gare du Nord to Kings Cross St Pancras in central London. Return tickets on Grand Prix weekend from €89.
  • Ferry : Putting your car on the ferry and driving to Silverstone is also an option, particularly if you are camping near the track. Dover is also well-connected with London train stations, and Silverstone can be reached within a few hours of docking. A return ticket on the Calais-Dover ferry for two passengers with a car costs from €160 with P&O Ferries.

Trains & Buses to Silverstone

  • Wolverton is the closest train station to Silverstone, sitting 16km from the track. Direct trains from London Euston to Wolverton are available from Avanti West Coast, with a journey time of little over an hour. However, shuttle buses are generally not available from this station. It’s better to travel via the larger Banbury, Milton Keynes and Northampton Train stations, which are all within 20km of the circuit.
  • Bus transfers are available from Milton Keynes Train Station, Northampton Train Station and Banbury Train Station. For more information about prices, see the Park & Ride selection below.
  • If you opt to stay in London, it’s a good idea to stay close to Euston Station, which has fast connections to Milton Keynes and Northampton – the closest large stations to the circuit. Trains to Northampton are normally direct and take around one hour; return tickets from £15 if booked in advance. Trains to Milton Keynes Central can take as little as 30 minutes and cost about the same when booked in advance. Trains to Banbury are also worth considering; you will get a little closer to the circuit, but trains take longer (90 minutes from Euston). To check times, fares and book your tickets, visit National Rail .
  • Stagecoach runs regular buses on British Grand Prix weekend from the train stations in Northampton (routes N1, 87 and 88) and Milton Keynes (routes 83, MK1 and X91) to Silverstone. Services also run from the Sixfields Stadium in Northampton (route 87). Single day return tickets cost £20-25, 3-day tickets are £37-40. On Sunday, the N1 service departs every 20 minutes from 06:00 onwards, while the MK1 service runs every 30 minutes.
  • Megabus runs bus services from 21 cities all over the UK to Silverstone on race weekend, including London, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Oxford and Sheffield. It’s a hassle free journey, with the bus dropping you off just a two minute walk from the entrance gate. See the full timetable for all three days of the weekend here .
  • Like Megabus, National Express also run buses from a number of major cities to the circuit on British Grand Prix weekend. Tickets are available from £31.

Driving to Silverstone

Silverstone sits between the M1 and the M40 motorways, both of which head out of London and connect with Oxford and Birmingham (M40 – near junction 10) and Milton Keynes and Northampton (M1 – junction 15a). Access to the track is from Dadford Road which runs north from Buckingham and south from the A43 and Silverstone village. The journey should take 90 minutes from London, 60 minutes from Birmingham, 45 minutes from Oxford and 30 minutes from Northampton. Traffic on Grand Prix weekend can add to these journey times significantly, however.

Trackside Parking at Silverstone

  • The organizers have steadily improved access routes and trackside parking with new layouts and better drainage after heavy rains in 2012 caused havoc. For fans sitting in the grandstands on the western side of the circuit such as Luffield or Abbey, the official trackside carpark is your best bet. If you are in one of the grandstands on the eastern side of the circuit, such as Copse or Becketts, then the closest parking is at Whittlebury Park.
  • Try to arrive early (particularly on the weekend) to avoid the inevitable queues down the winding country lanes. Parking tickets can be purchased together with your tickets. All parking tickets MUST be pre-booked (e.g. when buying your race tickets). You won’t get into the circuit if you haven’t already bought a a parking ticket, and could pay a fine . (Motorbike parking is provided free of charge.)
  • Car Parking tickets for the 2024 British Grand Prix, which are located at up to 20 minutes walk from the circuit gates, are now sold via the Silverstone circuit.  They are priced at £20 on Thursday, £35 on Friday, £50 on Saturday and £60 on Sunday. Save money by buying multi-day tickets: 3-day weekend price is £95, 4-day weekend is £110.

Park & Ride

  • If you want to avoid the traffic jams coming into and out of the circuit (particularly on race day) and save yourself some money on the high cost of trackside parking, then Park & Ride is worth considering.
  • Park and ride tickets provide access to park & ride lots near the M1 and M40 motorway exits.
  • Bus transfers are available from Milton Keynes Train Station, Northampton Train Station, Banbury Train Station, Sixfields Park and Ride Site and Turweston Park and Ride Site.
  • In 2024, park and ride tickets are charged at £24 per adult for a 3-day or 4-day weekend with same day returns. Single day tickets are also available (£5 on Thursday, £8 on Friday, £12 on Saturday and £16 on Sunday). Children 11 years and under pat a flat rate of £1.
  • Regular free shuttle buses take fans to the circuit and back each day. Check the shuttle bus schedule for all three park & ride lots here .

Getting to Silverstone by Taxi or Ride Sharing

  • Taxis and ride share vehicles are not allowed to access Silverstone Circuit during race weekend to drop off and pick up guests.
  • Taxis and ride share vehicles will only be able to drop guests at one of the three Park & Ride lots near the M1 and M40 motorway exits. To ride the shuttle bus from the park & ride lot to the circuit, tickets must be purchased in advance. Daily return shuttle bus tickets cost £5 on Friday and Saturday, and £10 on Sunday. Shuttle bus tickets can be purchased here: Friday / Saturday / Sunday

109 thoughts on “how to get to silverstone for the 2025 british grand prix”.

Andrew – this is very helpful. We are planning on attending the Moto GP race in August staying in Northampton and this gives us some options.

Glad to help Bill. I’m hoping to launch a new website soon that covers similar advice for MotoGP and other series! Enjoy Silverstone

Dear Andrew, I have grand stand tickets. Which would be your recomended time for me to arrive? I will be departing from London. Thanks!!!

Not sure how you are getting there, or which day you are talking about. But the general answer is that you should get there as early as you can. There will be big crowds this weekend, and enhanced security measures at the gates

Andrew: couple of queries- 1. I will be attending on Sunday. Are there queues at the park and ride? 2. How long does the park and ride bus take both ways? 3. Are you allowed to take cameras/lenses into the circuit?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Colin, I’m sorry, I don’t have specific answers to your first two questions. But I would think there is likely to be queues for the park and ride on race day. You shouldn’t have any problems taking your camera and lenses into the circuit, but don’t take too big a lens; anything under 300m should be ok

Cameras are allowed but not for commercial filming, for items that are not allowed go to https://www.silverstone.co.uk/events/formula-1-british-grand-prix/faqs

If I am travelling from Northamptonshire by car it says the journey is 30 minutes but leave significantly more, How much more should I realistically allow? How bad is the congestion?

It will be worst on Sunday, so I suggest leaving at least 90 minutes for the trip there and home. Go earlier and stay later seems to work the best!

Hi how long will it take on the Saturday to get from the six fields park and ride? Also are their any toilet facilities at the park and ride area Thanks

Sorry Jane, I don’t have the answers to your questions, but hopefully someone else will!

Do u know how much the shuttle bus is from Milton Keynes to Silverstone

Hi Jacqueline, single day tickets cost £13 one way or £21 return for adults (£10 one way or £16 return for children). Three-day tickets cost £36 for adults and £27 for children. Click here to download the timetable.

Is there one entrance/gate or others that get you into the circuit? Will be walking from a school car park and wanted to get to beckkets, is there a gate close to or just a main walk in entrance on Saturday

We are staying at Henley-in-Arden and our partners are attending the race on Sunday. I have been tasked with dropping them off and picking them up after the race!!! Any ideas on the best place to drop them? I don’t know the area at all. Thanks

Hi Heather, I don’t recommend driving your partners to the circuit and picking them up on race day. The traffic near the circuit is really congested and you will probably be stuck in traffic in each direction for an hour or two. Better idea would be to book them on a Megabus from Birmingham . You can drop them off and pick them up from there.

Can we drop-off and pick-up at the circuit on Friday? If so, do you know if it’s Car Park 25?

Is there any bus service from Stratford upon Avon?

Sorry James, I don’t know of any bus from Stratford upon Avon to Silverstone

Which park and ride should you choose if your leaving Oxford central? Thanks Gabrielle

We are staying in Northampton – there is the option of the N1 bus service from the bus station – is this the same a the ‘shuttle’ service??? – as the times do look a bit limited on Saturday on the timetable

Yes Mike, it’s the same. The timetable can be downloaded here .

I’m flying in to Luton airport on the Friday morning. Got a camp site at woodlands. How do I get from the airport to Silverstone? My ad

Where are you supposed to park motorcycles? I went to the practice today and parked in one of the carparks, but I told them it was free of charge – they didn’t have a clue, and it worries me that it may not be correct when I go tomorrow and Sunday.

Hi Steve, not sure if there is a dedicated parking area for motorcycles. But you definitely don’t need to pay for parking.

Hi we are going to F1 tomorrow from Surrey what time would you recommend us leaving home???

The short answer is as early as possible! The first race starts just after 8am if you want to get up really early. The traffic is bad on race day, so the earlier you get there the better. And don’t be in a hurry to leave the circuit after the race either. Enjoy!

I can take a train from Milton Keynes to the track, correct?

No Greg, you need to take a shuttle bus from Milton Keynes train station to the track: this is run by Stagecoach, as the article says.

thanks, I should have had a morning coffee before i read :)

No worries, it happens to the best of us:)

for the stagecoach buses, is that a special bus they run for the race weekend or do you just buy a regular ticket? Can’t find any info on their site. Regular bus looks like it takes an hour or so on the weekend.

These are special buses for Grand Prix weekend. Timetables normally get announced around 2-4 weeks before the race. Best to check the main Silverstone site for more info.

Hello Andrew, we are coming in from Montreal and it’s our first British Grand Prix. We are trying to figure if it is easier to stay in London and take the train & bus or stay as close as we can to tack to avoid as much travel as possible. Our experience in Belgium with the bus was a nightmare. No special lanes so we were in traffic with everyone else. Is this the same here or do the busses have special lanes? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you have found an option can you let me know! I am flying in from Ottawa and getting to the track has me anxious.

I’m possibly attending the British GP this summer and have a couple of questions.

Firstly how early would I need to arrive at the circuit by car on the Sunday to avoid most of the traffic? I know “the earlier the better” is the general advice on when to arrive, but how early is early?

At the other end of the day, when will most people likely have left the circuit, so making it a good time to leave without major queuing.

Hi Ivan, I’d be aiming to get to the circuit before 8am, but you’ll still probably encounter plenty of traffic at this hour. The worst traffic leaving the circuit is probably between 4-7pm, so I’d be aiming to leave after this.

Thanks for the info.

I have a motorhome that I was hoping to stay in for the 3 days for the Grand Prix. I have got tickets on the M1 park and ride. Is is possible to stay in the M1 junction overnight??

Are the shuttle buses from Sixfields free of charge even when I don’t use Park and ride? Would be staying in Northampton and therefore wouldn’t need the parking ticket and wouldn’t buy that if I could still use the shuttle buses. Does anyone know?

I would like to know this too – can anyone help? I live in Northampton and need to get there and back but as I’m not allowed to leave the car overnight I would rather get a taxi to park and ride

Hi Andrew I want suprise my father and buy ticket for Friday for him..I am not sure about few things so I would really appreciate your help.. so far I find that megabus is the best option but I’m wonder are they collecting people from birmingham airport too? If not where is the bus stop and how to get there from airport? Are the buses arrive on time to silverstone- (arriving time on timetable 9am) is that enough time to see first practice? And last thing what time all shows and events will finish on Friday?

Hi Martyna, details of Megabus services to Silverstone for 2018 can be found here . You will need to contact them to find out where the buses depart from in Birmingham, but probably from the centre. You’ll need to get from the airport to the centre I think. You can find the 2018 British GRand Prix schedule here . First F1 practice session begins at 10am on Friday and on-track action finishes at 19:00.

Finding the whole process of getting back from Silverstone very difficult! I am local in Northampton so can easily get bus there. However, all buses finish at approx 7pm even though entertainment is on until 10pm?! Seems crazy to me. So it appears the only other option is a £40 taxi.. a local business is missing a trick here! Late evening shuttles would be so ideal.

is it possible to be dropped off at silverstone is that allowed. i won tickets to 2018 silverstone f1 gp and have only receved them a week befor the event and now i cant book parking. plus i dont want to pay a ridicouls ammount for parking or a taxi or a slow bus.

Hi does anyone know if there’s a park and ride service from Milton Keynes to the track on Sunday 8th July 2018? Can’t seem to find any info Thanks Mike

Is there a taxi rank at the circuit so that we can get a taxi back to Milton Keynes after the Grand Prix? Or if we prebooked one, where would we ask it to pick us up? Struggling to imagine how we would find a prebooked taxi in the crowds.

Hi Jenny, check the 2018 Silverstone circuit map . You’ll find a taxi pick up/drop off point near Gate 5, behind the Family Zone.

Hi, Do you know if Virgin Trains will be doing specials with connecting Shuttle Buses for the 2019 event? Thanks! Jonathan

Hi, we are travelling from the Peterborough area to the GP next month and have Park and Ride tickets for the Sixfields site. The tickets only give directions on how to pick up the purple route from the M1 – can we pick up the purple route whilst driving in from the east and if so how/where? Many thanks Brian.

We will be staying in Milton Keynes for the race weekend. Planning on getting there for FP3 and qualifying and the race on Sunday. We are on a budget (family of 4, general admission). Hopefully the transfer to silverstone is dependable. We are BURNT from the French GP 2018.

Don’t worry, it will be much better organized than France 2018. Enjoy the race!

What are your plans for the MotoGP in August 2020 from MK to Silverstone?

Bl00dy great website, mate!

As a fellow Aussie travelling to Silverstone 2020, you have been a great help in my planning. Cheers!

Thanks Jen!

Hi, hope it’s ok to post this, some visitors do struggle with taxis. Being a high profile area it’s important to use the local ones for the best price & guidance. At Zoom Taxis – Towcester, we’re the local cab firm in the area. Happy to look after anyone requiring a taxi to & from Silvertone.

No worries Ahmed, happy to support a local business. Let’s hope for full attendance at this year’s race

Hi, can you tell me does our f1 Silverstone Saturday only ticket allow us to view the entertainment Saturday evening or do we have to leave by a certain time ?

Hi Andrew. Do you happen to have any information for getting to the Paddock Club? We were extremely lucky to win tickets for the race day through work, but haven’t had any information or schedule yet. We want to take a taxi to and from the circuit, but not sure if we will be allowed to get dropped off anywhere near the paddock. I contacted Silverstone, they referred me to the F1 Paddock Club, who then said they don’t have any designated drop off/pick up area, just that there’s a special entry once you are there. I also checked for the taxi rank you mentioned above but can’t see it on this year’s event map. How far would it be to walk from the main gate/taxi rank to the paddock club? Are there any shuttles going from the gate to the paddock area? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Jana, lucky you. The Paddock Club at Silverstone will be an awesome experience. I worked at the race in 2019, but I can’t remember exactly about access to the Paddock Club. Hopefully you will get more information soon. I’m pretty sure there’s a shuttle inside the circuit to get you to the Paddock Club. I’d say there’s a very good chance that this leaves from the Copse Runway.

Ah, thanks a lot the info!

It’s my first time going to Silverstone and I’m utterly clueless as to how me and my mum are travelling during the weekend… not ideal with 4 days to go. We’re staying near Milton Keynes Central Station, but have heard no news on the shuttle bus service which runs from the station to the circuit and can’t find any timetables online, be it with Stagecoach or Megabus. Do you know anything about these services?

Cheers in advance!

Hi Arran, here’s the info regarding the Stagecoach buses from Milton Keynes to Silverstone this weekend: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/midlands/2021-f1-pirelli-british-grand-prix#

We’re looking forward to our first F1 weekend at Silverstone. We’re staying with friends in the village of Abthorpe, just a few miles from the circuit, and plan to be there around 1 p.m on Friday before heading over to the circuit. Any thoughts on when we would need to leave Oxford to get to Abthorpe by 1 p.m?

Hi Phil, Google Maps is showing that journey taking 45 minutes on a normal day. I don’t think traffic will be bad around lunchtime on Friday, but the issue you may face is that the roads near the circuit are restricted (especially the A43). For that reason, it may be worth turning off a bit earlier and driving the back way to Abthorpe.

Hi. Coming this weekend on Sunday for our first ever GP. Parking at Silverstone School.

The race appears to start at 3 this year. What time would be sensible to get to the car park? I believe Silverstone Schools manages to avoid the bulk of the traffic.

Do you have any experience of getting a helicopter to the race on Sunday?

Hello, thank you for this information.

My son cannot attend Friday but will be dropped off by my wife on Saturday morning, should she drop him in Silverstone village so he can walk to the circuit? Or do you think she could drop him at a park and ride and he then gets the shuttle bus in? Thank you, Neil

Hi Neil, not sure where you will be coming in from, but dropping at a park and ride (or in Milton Keynes) so he can get a shuttle bus would probably be the best course of action

I’m coming from Manchester on the Saturday with the wife and child, it’s our first time to Silverstone for the F1.

I’m looking at a train to Milton Keynes then hopefully a bus or shuttle coach from the station to the Silverstone. My worry is getting back in the evening, do the buses and coaches to the station run right through the night.

Cheers Paul

I think you will be fine with this plan, but I haven’t yet seen the timetable of the shuttle buses for 2022. I’m sure the buses will run later if fans are attending the concerts after the racing.

Hi, do you know when stagecoach will release shuttle bus times from Milton Keynes to Silverstone for Grand Prix weekend?

Sorry not sure, please keep checking online for updates

Hi, How much time It takes to go from Milton Keys ti the track with the Stagecoach buses? I ready somewhere up ti 1h30m, Is It true? Cheers Filippo

Well it depends on when you go and traffic etc, but the traffic management is pretty good now near the circuit (highways become one way etc). It should only take around 40-60 minutes in my experience

I may be a bit late to the party here but thanks for all this information. Is there any chance you know if it is possible to park in Whittlebury (roadside for example) and then walk/cycle the rest of the distance. It’s my first Grand Prix ever and to be honest it was very last minute, I’m going myself and all parking has sold out so am trying to Educate myself about the nearest on road parking ect. but any Information at all would be amazing.

Thanks a lot, Coll

Honestly, not sure. I think you may be able to find something by googling ‘Park and Ride Silverstone’, but don’t think you will be able to park anywhere near Whittlebury. Another choice will be to park in Milton Keynes or Northampton and take the shuttle bus from there.

Coll – i am parking at Whittlebury hall hotel – i booked and paid for it some time ago for the Sunday so am pretty sure it’ll be booked out by now – you then walk across to the Becketts gate / entrance. Not parked here before so not sure o how good i will be but it was certainly around £25 cheaper than Silverstone

Hi Andrew, This information’s helped me a lot. Do you know how long does it take from the main entrance to the paddock entrance with walking??

Many thanks Hugo

It would take quite a while, as you need to walk across a bridge and through the infield of the circuit. But you can take a dedicated Paddock Club shuttle from the Paddock Club parking area, which is a better idea.

Hi Andrew, Coming from the states and staying in London. I do have passes with my tickets to park in the track grounds. Would you recommend renting a car or traveling via train as the most convenient on Sunday?

If you have a parking pass, I’d probably drive as it will be more convenient. Yes, there will be some congestion arriving and leaving the circuit, but try to avoid the peak times and you should be fine.

Thank you for sharing this content. We are coming from the United States for the F1 race in July. Our current plan is to leave London Friday morning for Silverstone via Megabus. Then, we are staying in Milton Keynes Friday and Saturday night. We have tickets to return to London via Megabus Sunday at 6:00 pm. Two questions-Do you think leaving the track at 6pm on Sunday will give us enough time to enjoy the post race celebrations? Second question, I am having a hard time finding where to purchase bus tickets to get to and from the track to Milton Keynes. I looked at the Megabus site and also Stagecoach and it does not look like I can purchase any yet. Do these only come available the month before?

Hi Caleb, I’m a little confused by your plan. Are the Megabus tickets from London direct to Silverstone and back? What is your plan for your extra luggage on Sunday? I don’t think there is luggage storage at the track. I personally would be just taking the train from London Euston to Milton Keynes, then the shuttle bus from Milton Keynes train station to the track and back – and yes, I don’t think tickets for this service are available yet. In my opinion, 6pm is too early to be leaving on Sunday. If Megabus departs from the track, it will probably be ok. But this time doesn’t account for any delays to the race, or queues to get out of the circuit/on the bus etc.

Sorry. I typed my email address wrong. Yes, the Megabus tickets are directly from London to the track. Then, the return trip on Sunday night is directly from the track back to London. We were just going to take a rucksack for luggage. From what I have read, it looks like we can take it in to the track with us. We travel light. We have friends in London that are keeping our suitcases. But it sounds like we might need to adjust based on your advice. What time would you recommend we leave London via Train to make it to Milton Keynes, then have time to get on the Shuttle bus to get to Silverstone Friday morning? For the Shuttle bus to and from the track, do we need to book those tickets early? It is hard to predict what time we should get the tickets. Same question for the return to London after the race. What time should we try to get the train from Milton Keynes back to London. Or does it work that we can just show up and get on the next available train? Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Caleb, sorry if I confused you with my advice. For ease of organization, I think you are probably best off taking the Megabus service from London direct to Silverstone and back.

FYI Taxis aren’t allowed to drop passengers off at the circuit during the 7-9 July, you will have to get a taxi to the park and ride facilities (M1 or M40) pay for a shuttle bus to SIlverstone from the park and ride facilties. You have to book the shuttles in advance i think, Friday and Saturday return bus passes are £5 per day., Sunday £10

Thanks for confirming

Don’t think this is accurate – when you buy a car park pass in M1 or M40, it advertises a free shuttle. There is no other option for a shuttle bus pass.

I’ve just been given a ticket for race day and will be staying in Milton Keyens and looking at how best get to the track. It seems shuttle buses from the station but I can’t find anywhere to book tickets for them. Can you just pay on the day, or does this mean they are sold out? If sold out guess my next best option would be taxi, but the latest comment seems to suggest you can get a taxi there? Any help would be great.

You can travel on the Stagecoach bus from Milton Keynes train station to Silverstone. It seems like you cannot buy tickets in advance. I can see departures every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour. Do a search here: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/

That’s great! When I looked on Saturday they were not up. Although, one bus every 30 minutes does not seem like much given the amount of people attending! Is it the same coming back as surely it will be impossible to ever get on one?

I’m not sure, perhaps multiple buses leave at that time. I think it will be fairly well organized. Yes, there will be lots of people but lots of buses as well. I wouldn’t worry too much

Hello Alex, I did this last year for all three days and there were plenty of buses available. You can’t buy tickets in advance but they have staff of Stagecoach selling tickets as you queue up.

And Andrew is correct: it is not one bus every 30 minutes, but can be more than one if there are too many people for one bus. It involved some queueing but is pretty well organised as I think they have been doing it for years.

Thanks for the contribution Luke!

Thank you, Luke! That is really helpful. It looks like I have a lift on the way there now but I assume that’s the same for the way back and you just queue at a certain point outside the track?

If I understand correctly, there will be multiple Stagecoach buses at the same time. Because I am worried about going back from Silverstone circuit to Milton Keynes railway station. Am I right?

Hi Andrew, I’m going on the Sunday this year. I have parking in car park 1 already booked and also seats in Woodcote B. I’m struggling to find out what time I need to arrive. I’m aware gates open at 7:30 but I am not able to get there that early. Do you know if it’s possible to arrive around 11 and still get in reasonably quickly? Thanks!

I think most fans will probably get there between 8am-10am, so it may not be the worst idea to arrive a bit later.

Thank you very much for replying. Will aim for 10:30/11 then.

We are only able to go for the Thursday. What can we expect to see on a Thursday before a race?

You won’t see any F1 sessions, as these happen from Friday to Sunday. But there’s likely to be some other displays etc on the track. Also you can do a pit lane walk. And there will be concerts in the fan zone.

Would a pit lane walk be available to a general admission ticket?

And yes I see there would be a concert too, which is great!

I think you have to purchase a pit lane walk separately via Silverstone, pretty sure they are already sold out for 2024. Do you have ticket for Thursdsay already? Silverstone is selling 3 or 4-day tickets this year, so you need a 4-day ticket to access the concert, is my understanding

Do you know what the megabus prices will be? I can’t seem to find any. I’ll be staying in Northampton. I’m just trying to find the cheapest option for travel.

The park and ride services look good though, will the bus take me directly from Northampton to the circuit and back? Can you buy these tickets in advance? If so, where?

Thanks for the lovely website

Hi Kari, you don’t need to buy tickets in advance for the buses from Northampton direct to the circuit. Can’t remember pricing, but it’s quite affordable and the services are frequent on race weekend. It’s your best option

Hi – Staying a friends in Buckingham – any idea what the closest place to drop off and walk is? happy to walk a mile or two

How can I get to HINTON park & ride…is there any post code available, because I’ve bout the ticket and has no address what so ever :(

Attending an event on Friday 5th July @ Escapade. Have parking space in P38. I will be driving from north London, normally takes approx 1 hr 30 min. From your experience, how much extra time should i count on? Plan is to leave around 08.00. Maybe I should leave earlier?

2024 F1 Monaco Grand Prix

24 - 26 May 2024 - Circuit de Monaco, Monte Carlo, Monaco

For many F1 fans Monaco is a magical place, providing some of the best grand prix racing around in a rather glamorous location. It is hard to comprehend that a Grand Prix race can take place through the narrow streets of a city but that is exactly what happens when F1 lands here. Stare in awe as drivers reach unbelievable speeds negotiating tight corners and passing famous landmarks such as Monte Carlo Casino and the Harbour.

2024 F1 Pirelli British Grand Prix

4-7 July 2024 - Silverstone, Northamptonshire, UK

Nothing beats the glitz, glamour and adrenalin-fuelled drama of the  British Grand Prix . The atmosphere alone is incredible but it's even better when there are home-grown Brits on the Grid. The layout of the circuit has been altered several times in the last 12 years to improve driver's safety and overtaking opportunities. Once the race has finished, officials open up the barriers and allow spectators to walk around the track and get closer to the pit lane. Understandably, this is always a sell-out event in the F1 calendar.

2024 F1 Rolex Belgian Grand Prix

26 - 28 July 2024 - Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium F1 racing first began here in 1924 and the circuit is deemed to be one of the most challenging in the world. Spectators to the Belgian Grand Prix will be in for a thrilling few days of racing as they watch drivers reach speeds of up to 300km/h whilst negotiating the fast, hilly and twisty nature of the circuit. Spa-Francorchamps is also well-known for the unpredictable weather, one part of the circuit could be dry whilst another part could be slippery with rain! As the majority of F1 fans know, there is never a dull day of racing here.

Spectators not only fall in love with the atmosphere but they also love the circuit too. It's long, containing a high number of straights with very few turns allowing drivers to reach eye-watering speeds of 280km/h.

Previous Winners: 2023 - Max Vertappen 2022- Max Verstappen 2020- Pierre Gasly

British Grand Prix ⋅ Getting to Silverstone

Plan your british grand prix.

Silverstone

Northamptonshire

  • grandstands

Silverstone may be far away from any large city but the Northamptonshire circuit is well located roughly in the centre of the country. At about 130km from London and 105km from the UK’s second city, Birmingham the track is easy to get to for both UK residents and international visitors. Driving to Silverstone is a popular choice, especially with weekend campers, but dedicated coaches, trains and park and ride buses also serve fans going to the British Grand Prix.

Getting to Silverstone with Public Transport

If you’re within easy access of a town centre in the UK, taking a bus or train to Silverstone is often the most convenient way to get there. The cheapest or most comfortable way to get to the British Grand Prix by public transport will depend where you are coming from but will most likely be either a coach direct to the circuit or a combination of train and shuttle bus.

Bus / Coach

Megabus provide coach transfers from various pick-up points throughout England and Wales. There are 41 confirmed locations for the day of the Grand Prix in 2024 so there’s probably one near you.

These are all express services taking you directly to Silverstone. They drop off passengers at car park 22, a short walk from the circuit entrance. These depart between 5.30 and 9am to arrive at Silverstone for 10am.

There are also buses on Friday and Saturday however there are fewer routes on these days. The towns and cities listed below are for the Sunday of the race. To view departure points for other days and book in advance visit the Megabus website.

Banbury Basingstoke Bedford Birmingham Bristol Bury St. Edmunds Cambridge Cannock Chester Coventry Cwmbran Derby East Dereham Heathrow Airport Ipswich Kings Lynn Leamington Spa Leeds Leicester Liverpool London

Luton Manchester Newbury Newcastle-under-Lyme Newmarket Newport Norwich Nottingham Nottingham Trent Uni Oxford Peterborough Portsmouth Reading Sheffield Southampton Stratford-upon-Avon Swindon Warwick Wellingborough Winchester

Getting to the British Grand Prix from further afield, the more comfortable way may be to take the train and later transfer to a bus to get to the circuit.

Wolverton station is the closest train station to Silverstone (by a small margin) but there are not usually shuttle buses available from here.

Instead, catch a train to Banbury, Milton Keynes Central or Northampton – all within 30km of the circuit.

From there, continue your journey by taxis that will be waiting at the station (see below) or hop on a bus directly to the circuit.

From London your quickest route is Euston Station to Milton Keynes Central and from Birmingham your best options are Birmingham New Street to Milton Keynes or Banbury. It will depend however on which service you end up booking as to how long it will take so in some instances an alternative route may be quicker.

Bus Services from Banbury, Northampton and Milton Keynes

From Banbury train station there is a Megabus shuttle service to Silverstone on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See above for more information and to book tickets.

From Northampton and Milton Keynes train stations there is also a Megabus service. Tickets for these can be purchased on the day.

train to silverstone

Buying train tickets

Buy your tickets as early as possible to get the cheapest deal but bear in mind advance tickets won’t be available until 12 weeks before the Grand Prix weekend.

You can search for all available services on all train companies simultaneously with Omio and make your booking online without any markups or extra charges. You’ll receive an e-ticket for your journey that you can print or keep on your mobile or tablet.

If you’ll be taking the train to Milton Keynes, Northampton or Banbury you can get a taxi to cover the rest of the trip. This should set you back no more than £40.

Taxis won’t be able to get near the circuit on race weekend so make sure to purchase a Park and Ride ticket for each person (infants under 2 go free) in your group. This will allow you to get dropped off by taxi at a site just off the M1 or the M40 and ride the shuttle bus to the track.

Return tickets are £5 on Friday and Saturday and £10 on Sunday . Returning from the circuit, buses pick up passengers at the same location and it’s advisable to arrange a a return taxi in advance.

Driving Directions to Silverstone

Driving to Silverstone is especially well suited to the many fans who opt to camp within the vicinity of the circuit. Parking at the campsite means you can fill the car up with sleeping bags, beer and other essentials to survive a long weekend in the Northamptonshire countryside.

Even if you’re not over-nighting at Silverstone, it can be quicker and more convenient to drive than transferring to a bus or train in a town centre. There are car parks just minutes from the circuit entrance as well as park and ride services.

With fans arriving at staggered times on each day and over the weekend, ingress to the circuit is reasonably smooth, though as with any Grand Prix you should plan to leave early and be prepared for some delays. After the race on Sunday you should expect more major congestion, especially when exiting car parks.

From the M1 (London)…

Exit at junction 15A and follow the A43 to Oxford. After passing the A5 junction you’ll see brown signs leading you to the circuit car parks.

From the the M40 (Birmingham)…

Exit junction 10 and follow the A43 towards Northampton. Soon after passing Brackley look out for the brown signs directing you to the circuit car parks.

Parking at Silverstone

There are official car parks at the circuit, no more than a 20-minute walk to the gates. Individual tickets are available to buy for Friday , Saturday and Sunday as well as a 3 day pass . You’ll need to book this in advance as it won’t be possible to buy parking tickets on the day and parking without a valid ticket will result in a hefty fine. You have to choose either M1 or M40 when making your booking but on the day you can arrive from whichever direction you wish.

If attending on Thursday, parking is free and does not need to be booked in advance. On all days parking for motorcycles is free.

Silverstone Park and Ride

Instead of parking at Silverstone it’s less expensive and in some ways more convenient to use the circuit’s park-and-ride service. Simply pre-book an off-site parking ticket, park just off the M1 or M40 and ride the free shuttle bus to the circuit. Not only will you save a few quid but you’ll also avoid the agonizing stop-start traffic that you can expect near the circuit.

If you’re going with friends or family all in one vehicle you’ll just need to reserve one park-and-ride ticket and all F1 ticket holders are included.

Park and ride locations for Silverstone are just off the M1 (Junction 15a) and M40 (Junction 10 and 11). Take note of the colour of your pass as that will determine which bus to take and hang on to the pass for the journey back to the car park.

Tickets for park-and-ride can be bought at the time of booking your race tickets or separately. Order your passes for Friday , Saturday , Sunday or the full weekend from the Silverstone website.

Drop-off / Pick-up

For private vehicles, movement near the circuit will be restricted to those with parking passes so if you need to be dropped off and picked up the best best place to do so is the High Street in Silverstone village. This is about a 15 – 20 minute walk to the circuit gates.

The long way home - Prologue - 17500 km overland to reach my hometown!

Photo of Yubanaswa Chakraborty

On the 14th day of our travel, we were looking out of our train window and enjoying the view of the semi frozen lake Baikal. We were on a day long journey on a slow Russian passenger train. Everything moved backwards towards the west, slowly. Pine trees, snow on the ground. The towering snow clad peaks behind them.

We had come about 8300 km since we started. A little over half the distance we were covering. This is not my usual route to go home. This is not the usual route people travel from Europe to India. But this is one of the most feasible overland route to complete this journey. Although very few actually travel this way. Our inn keeper in the town of Listvyanka by the shores of lake Baikal told us - "The last Indian tourist I saw here was about five years ago"

Ever since I moved to London, I have been toying with the idea to travel overland to India, by means of public transport - i.e. trains and road transport. After years of waiting, I finally got myself to travel.

Photo of The long way home - Prologue - 17500 km overland to reach my hometown! 2/4 by Yubanaswa Chakraborty

In April-May, me and my wife Beena, traveled from London to Siliguri (India), mainly by trains.

Although we had crossed over from Europe to Asia long way back near the town of Yekaterinburg, the real Asia doesn't start until you cross the deepest lake of the world.

Let me now tell you about the trip we concluded.

Our trip in numbers - 10 countries, 32 days, 17500 km, highest altitude 5400m, lowest altitude 100m below MSL.

Outline of the trip:
