The Cure Announce 2023 “Shows of a Lost World” North American Tour Dates

  • March 9, 2023

AMOC 2024 Banner

T he Cure’s Songs of a Lost World Tour, which recently completed its European leg this past December, is coming to North America in May, June, and July of 2023. The 30-date run will feature The Twilight Sad as the opening act for all shows. The Cure, one of the most iconic bands of the post-punk era, will perform at some of North America’s most prestigious venues, including three nights at Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl.

Tickets for the tour will be available via the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Sale, which opens on Wednesday, March 15th , 2023. In order to access the sale, fans must register beforehand, with registration closing on Monday, March 13th, 2023, at 10 AM PT . Fans can register for up to five different shows.

The Cure has agreed to set all ticket prices for the tour. Apart from a few Hollywood Bowl charity seats, there will be no “platinum” or “dynamically priced” tickets for this tour. The band wants to ensure that fans have access to affordable tickets and that everyone has the opportunity to see them perform live.

The tour will kick off on May 10th, 2023, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will travel through many other major North American cities before concluding on July 1st, 2023, in Miami, Florida. In addition to the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Garden, the tour will also include performances at the Bell Centre in Montreal and the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

The Cure last toured North America in 2016 and hosted and curated the Pasadena Daydream festival in 2019. Since then, fans have eagerly anticipated the band’s return to the United States.

In 2022, The Cure began their European tour with the surprise return of guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte , who rejoined the band for the first time in nearly two decades. Bamonte had previously played on the band’s 1992 album “Wish” and had a special moment on the album writing the music for the heartbreaking song “Trust.” After playing lead guitar for the band between 1993 and 2005, Bamonte parted ways, reuniting with the band onstage for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inauguration ceremony in 2019.

Since releasing their last album, “4:13 Dream,” in 2008, The Cure has focused on live albums, compilations, and concert films, and reissue campaigns, such as for the long-awaited 3oth anniversary deluxe edition of Wish . In 2019, Robert Smith, the band’s eccentric frontman, curated 60 artists for his edition of the Meltdown Festival in London, which inspired him to write new music. The global pandemic lockdown also allowed Smith to work on new lyrics, promising a return to the dark themes of the band’s earlier albums.

The band’s 2022 European tour included five songs from their upcoming album, “Songs from A Lost World,” such as “I Can Never Say Goodbye,” “A Fragile Thing,” “And Nothing Is Forever,” “Endsong,” and “Alone.”

Fans should mark their calendars and be prepared to be blown away by the legendary performances (and lengthy setlists) from The Cure. With The Twilight Sad opening all shows, this tour promises to be an unforgettable experience at venues across North America.

The Cures Robert Smith singing

The Cure have announced a 2023 tour of North America. Find their Shows of a Lost World dates below. The schedule comes with three dates apiece at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and New York’s Madison Square Garden. Support on all dates comes from their longtime tourmates the Twilight Sad .

In recent years, Robert Smith has been teasing a Cure album, giving regular progress reports. In 2019, after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ( by Trent Reznor ), Smith said , “If I’m optimistic it will be finished before the start of this summer.” The album still hasn’t materialized.

The band’s last studio album was 2008’s 4:13 Dream . In recent years, Smith has collaborated with Gorillaz and remixed Chvrches , Deftones , and, just this week, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds . Last year, the band reissued 1992’s Wish . See where the Cure landed on Pitchfork’s list of “ The 250 Best Songs of the 1990s .”

The Cure Set First North American Tour in Seven Years

The Cure will embark on their first North American tour in seven years this summer as the Rock Hall-inducted band ’s Songs of a Lost World trek have added four additional dates to their previously scheduled slate of 30 shows.

Following their 2022 European jaunt, Robert Smith and company will kick off their 2023 North American dates on May 10 in New Orleans. After circling the U.S. and parts of Canada — including three-night stands at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and New York’s Madison Square Garden — the leg concludes July 1 in Miami.

The new dates include a stop in Portland as well as additional nights in Montreal, Atlanta, and San Diego. “Please please please don’t buy tickets if you don’t intend [on] going to the show,” the band pleaded on Twitter, hoping their tickets make it into the right hands and don’t end up on secondary markets.

Fans can sign up for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan now ahead of the on-sale dates. New dates will be available beginning Friday, April 7 at 10 a.m. local time. The fourth extra show, the Portland stop, will be “an experiment to see whether non-transferable tickets are enough protection,” thus Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan will not be required for those purchases.

Other than the Cure’s 2019 performances at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the Austin City Limits Festival , and their own Pasadena Daydream fest , the band last staged a North American tour in 2016.

The Cure Announce First North American Tour in Seven Years

The Cure have outlined an upcoming North American tour, dubbed Song of a Lost World, with 30 tour stops in the U.S. and Canada. The excursion is slated to begin on May 10 in New Orleans and will serve as the band’s first stateside tour in seven years.

After kicking off their jaunt in the Big Easy, Robert Smith and his collaborators will hop over to the Lone Star State, where they are billed to take the stage in Houston, Dallas and Austin, Texas, before a one-night stand at Albuquerque, N.M.’s Isleta Amphitheater on May 16. From there, they’ll play in Phoenix prior to a series of Golden State gigs, including three nights at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

Next, The Cure will jump up to Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena on June 1, followed by the first Canadian stop of this tour, which will occur the following night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia. After a quick trip to The Great White North, the band will pop down to Salt Lake City for a concert, which will be followed by shows scattered throughout the Midwest region of the U.S.

Following a June 13 performance in Motor City, The Cure will pick up a pair of Canadian tour dates, scheduled to happen in Ontario and Quebec. On June 16, the group will take a stand in Boston before a three-night run at New York’s Madison Square Garden on June 20 through 22.

From there, the English rockers will turn up at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on June 24. After that, they’ll work their way down the Eastern Seaboard before their final North American tour date on July 1 at the Miami-Dade Arena in Miami, Fla.

The Cure’s impending trek through North America marks their first since a 2019 festival appearance and a 2016 regional tour, which came before that.

How Ticketing Works For The Cure’s Shows Of A Lost World Tour

  • Copied to Clipboard

the cure lost world tour dates

Statement From Robert Smith, The Cure

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by The Cure (@thecure)
  • TICKETS WILL BE NON-TRANSFERABLE : Ticketmaster will be following the artist’s terms and any tickets sold on our platform will be non-transferable to prevent tickets being resold for a profit. (Please note: This does not apply to tickets purchased for tour dates in New York and Illinois, where state laws prohibit artists from restricting resale).
  • TICKETS CAN ONLY BE RESOLD AT FACE VALUE : To give fans flexibility if their plans change, the tour will utilize Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange, which allows fans to sell their tickets for the price they paid, including fees and taxes. That way, if a fan can’t make the show, they have a way to get their money back while making another fan’s night.
  • THE ONSALE WILL USE VERIFIED FAN TO GET TICKETS TO FANS : The Cure is leveraging Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan technology to ensure more tickets get into the hands of concertgoers. Verified Fan requires registration to help filter out buyers looking to resell tickets, and instead get them into the hands of fans who want to attend the show. While there may not be enough tickets for everyone, Verified Fan does significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale. It also provides an equal opportunity for all fans to get the chance to purchase tickets to shows by using a lottery-style selection process.

For more information on North American shows and Verified Fan Registration, please visit: verifiedfan.ticketmaster.com/thecure2023

For more information about Ticketmaster Verified Fan, visit: blog.ticketmaster.com/verifiedfan-faq/

Fans mean everything to artists, and we at Ticketmaster believe that the best way to ensure a fair ticketing experience for live music fans is to put more control in the hands of the artists themselves. To learn more about the FAIR Ticketing Act and how we’re supporting this movement, visit fairticketing.com .

How does Ticketmaster Verified Fan work?

Artists choose to use Verified Fan to give their fans a better chance at buying tickets by creating an extra line of defense against bots and professional resellers who are looking to get tickets for profit. The process includes three steps:

Step 1: Registration

By registering for a Verified Fan sale, you are letting us know that you’re interested in purchasing tickets. From the registration page, you  sign in to your account, select your preferred show(s) and register your email and phone number. Once completed, you’ll automatically receive a confirmation email letting you know that we got your request. It’s quick, easy and free to sign up.

Step 2: Verification

Next Ticketmaster vets each request by confirming it belongs to an individual  – not a bot – and that it hasn’t been tied to irregular behaviors that could be a sign of a professional seller attempting to access the sale.

Access Code or Waitlist

When demand exceeds availability, a lottery-style process will determine which registered Verified Fans get an access code for the sale, and which are put on a waitlist. You’ll receive an email the day prior to the ticket sale letting you know which group you’re in.

Access Code: If you receive an access code, it will be sent via text message. It is unique to your account, and will not work if anyone else enters it – do not try to sell or trade your code.

Waitlist: If tickets remain, we may text you an access code to join the ticket sale. The lottery-style process will be used to determine who gets off the waitlist.

While it doesn’t guarantee that all Verified Fans will get tickets, it does significantly block bots and professional resellers from competing against fans for tickets during the sale .

What does it mean if a ticket is non-transferable?

When tickets are non-transferable, it means that the transfer feature is disabled by the event organizer to prevent tickets from being resold for a profit.

If you can no longer attend a show, you can sell your tickets for the price you paid using Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange . Important note: Fans should not attempt to purchase tickets from sites outside of those made available on the Face Value Exchange. Learn more about how to avoid fake “speculative” tickets for live events.

What is Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange?

Ticketmaster’s Face Value Exchange allows fans to sell their tickets to other fans at the price they paid, including fees and taxes. Artists choose to leverage the Ticket Exchange marketplace to protect fans who can no longer make the show. It also gives fans looking for tickets access to purchase them at a fair price.

How do I list tickets for sale on the Face Value Exchange?

It’s quick and easy to list your tickets for sale on the Face Value Exchange.

Here’s how it works:

  • Sign in to My Account, click My Tickets then select See Details next to your event.
  • Click the Sell button.
  • Choose to list one or all your tickets for the price you paid.
  • Tell us how you’d like to get paid.
  • Review your listing and you’re all set .

If I sell my tickets on the Face Value Exchange, will I get back the fees I paid when I purchased my tickets?

Yes. If you have purchased a ticket on our platform and discover you can’t use it, you’ll be able to make your money back by selling your ticket for exactly what you originally paid, including fees.

What does it cost to sell tickets on the Face Value Exchange?

There are no additional fees charged to buy or sell tickets on the Face Value Exchange.

What does it cost to buy tickets on the Face Value Exchange?

There are no additional fees charged when purchasing tickets on the Face Value Exchange. The tickets are listed at an all-in price including face value and fees paid by the original buyer.

Here Is The Cure’s ‘Shows Of A Lost World Tour’ Setlist

Back in March, The Cure announced they would be hitting the road for a robust North American Tour — their first since 2016. Despite issues with Ticketmaster over its aggressive service fees during the tour’s pre-sale, the rockers’ Shows Of A Lost World Tour kicked off with no challenges.

The tour launched on Wednesday, May 10 in New Orleans, Louisana, at Smoothie King Center, with the band surprising fans with an eclectic blend of tracks across their 13 studio album discography. According to Setlist.FM , The Cure’s setlist included “Six Different Ways” off their 1985 album The Head on the Door and “A Thousand Hours” off their 1987 album Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me . Both tracks haven’t been performed live by the band since 1987.

The summer show will be the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' first Metro Detroit concert in almost two decades since the band headlined its Curiosa fest at the then-DTE Energy Music Theatre in August 2004.

The Cure adds 4 more North American concerts; dates in Mexico, South America to come

The Cure today expanded its Shows of a Lost World 2023 tour by adding four additional North American dates, including second concerts in San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta, plus a new stop in Portland, Oregon, that bandleader Robert Smith says is an “experiment” to see whether simply using non-transferrable tickets is “enough protection” to keep seats out of the hands of scalpers.

The new concerts are set for May 21 in San Diego, May 31 in Portland, June 17 in Montreal and June 28 in Atlanta, the band announced this morning on social media .

Anyone with previously issued, but unused, Ticketmaster Verified Fan presale codes “from any market” will have the first crack at tickets for San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta, the band says. That presale begins at 10 a.m. local time Friday, April 7, with a limit of four non-transferrable tickets per person.

“Please, please, please don’t buy tickets if you don’t intend going (sic) to the show,” Smith writes on Twitter.

If tickets remain to those concerts after the Verified Fan presale, a public on-sale is set for 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, April 8.

Additionally, non-transferrable tickets for the new Portland show will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time Friday, April 7, with no Verified Fan presale. See thecure.com for more details.

Smith also revealed, in a tweet on Tuesday , that The Cure is planning to play in Mexico “and seven of the 12 sovereign states of South America” — the details of which will be announced before the end of this month.

The Shows of a Lost World tour will find Smith joined by his longest-serving bandmate, bassist Simon Gallup, as well as drummer Jason Cooper, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell and guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Smith surprised fans last fall by bringing back guitarist/keyboardist Perry Bamonte, who played in the band from 1990 to 2005.

The Cure announced what initially was a 30-date North American tour on March 9, and spelled out efforts to thwart scalpers and try to keep tickets affordable — including by barring the transfer of tickets, prohibiting resale above face value and the use of the  Ticketmaster Verified Fan system.

When tickets went on sale, though, sky-high demand meant many fans were shut out from even getting codes to access the presale that began March 15 — and through which it seemed most of the seats available at the 30 shows were sold. Fans also grumbled as the band’s attempts to keep prices low were met with services fees that, in the most extreme cases , exceeded ticket prices.

By the time the general on-sale rolled around on March 17, Smith had secured partial refunds of Ticketmaster’s “unduly high” fees that he had felt “sickened” by. Still, by the Friday general on-sale, the majority of tickets already had been sold and buyers quickly snatched up most of what was left.

Smith has urged fans to use face value exchanges like  twickets.live  if they need to buy or sell tickets, and repeatedly has asked fans not to buy tickets to the shows in Denver, New York City and Chicago from ticket brokers, as they are in states with “laws protecting scalpers.” According to Ticketmaster, it those three states, “state law prohibits artists from restricting resale.”

Last week, Smith announced that he’d been informed that approximately 7,000 tickets to the band’s North American tour have been canceled because they were bought with “fake accounts” or listed on the secondary market. A day earlier,  Smith had tweeted  about how ticket scalpers were getting around The Cure’s attempt to limit the digital transfer of tickets by reselling entire Ticketmaster accounts, with tickets included — a method  detailed by Vice’s Motherboard in an extensive article  last month.

All tickets bought that way,  Smith continued , will be canceled and the original fees won’t be refunded — instead the fees will be donated to Amnesty International, “and the tickets themselves will be resold to fans.”

The 7,000 canceled tickets were linked to 2,200 individual orders, Smith wrote on Friday. “These are tickets acquired with fake accounts/listed on secondary resale sites,” he wrote. Any fans who believe their tickets have been “wrongly canceled” should contact Ticketmaster via  @TMFanSupport  on Twitter, Smith added.

Robert Smith and co's first album in over 15 years is set to be released any day soon... but how much do we know about it already?

By Martin O'Gorman

Listen to this article

What is the cure's new album called.

In the summer of 2019, Robert Smith claimed that the new album was to be named "Live From The Moon", inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landings. However, at the Ivor Novelllo Awards cremony in May 2022 , Smith revealed that the title was now Songs Of A Lost World . The band's 2022 and 2023 tours have been similarly titled "Shows Of A Lost World".

Does The Cure's Songs Of A Lost World album have a release date?

On 9th September 2024, The Cure's official website and social media channels updated the band's logo, leading many fans to wonder if an announcement of new material was imminent.

On 12th September, a poster on the Steve Hoffman Music Forum reported that they'd received "a plain black postcard sized envelope today with my name and address in silver writing.

"Inside was what looked like a blank black postcard. Good quality card. Noticed the tiniest embossed writing on it...a bit scattered..

"Took a while - it reads "songs [of] a lost world"

"At the bottom - in roman numerals is the date 1/11/24"

Since then, Robert Smith has tweeted the address of a brand new Cure website, www.songsofalost.world , which asks users to enter a code: when the number 1/11/2024 is entered (via the all-important Roman numerals), fans can sign up for more information, which includes a brand new Cure WhatsApp account!

Alongside this, digital billboards have been cropping up around the world, bearing the artwork from the website, while the Railway Inn (formerly The Rocket) in the band's hometown of Crawley is the site of a similar poster. The Rocket was the scene of a number of early Cure shows in the late 1970s.

What has Robert Smith said about Songs Of A Lost World?

In August 2019, Smith told the Los Angeles Times: “I keep going back over and redoing them, which is silly. At some point, I have to say that’s it."

He admitted the sound of the album had been affected by family bereavements: “It’s very much on the darker side of the spectrum. I lost my mother and my father and my brother recently, and obviously it had an effect on me.

“It’ll be worth the wait. I think it’s the best thing we’ve done, but then I would say that. A lot of the songs are difficult to sing, and that’s why it’s taken me a while."

In July 2020, keyboard player Roger O'Donnell told Classic Pop magazine : "Four years ago, I said to Robert, 'We have to make one more record. It has to be the most intense, saddest, most dramatic and most emotional record we've ever made, and then we can just walk away from it.' He agreed. Listening to the demos, it is that record. I think everybody will be happy with it.

"The problem is, when you've got a back catalogue like The Cure, it's a lot to live up to. Robert has said, 'If The Cure say any more, it had better be important and it had better be f***ing good'. It is, it's going to be an amazing record. I just suggest a little patience."

Speaking to The Sunday Times in June 2021 , Smith claimed that this may be the very last Cure album: “The new stuff is very emotional. It’s 10 years of life distilled into a couple of hours of intense stuff. I can’t think we’ll ever do anything else. I definitely can’t do this again.”

The same month, S mith also repeated the claim to Apple Music 1 that the band had recorded enough songs for two albums: "One of them’s very, very doom and gloom and the other one isn’t."

What will be the track listing of The Cure's Songs Of A Lost World

The autumn of 2022 saw The Cure head out on a European tour, which saw the band unveil a number of new songs.

The first show in Latvia on 6th October saw the debut of the tracks Alone and Endsong .

On 20th October in Kraków, Poland, the band debuted I Can Never Say Goodbye at the start of the first encore. Smith explained that it was about his brother, Richard, who had died recently and, according to Robert, had lived in Poland for a number of years. It was Richard's participation in a local collective with the unlikely name of The Crawley Goat Band that really sparked Robert's interest in performing music.

The Cure have launched a secret website and WhatsApp channel ahead of the release of their long-awaited new album ‘Songs Of A Lost World’.

  • READ MORE:  On the cover – Robert Smith on 40 years of The Cure

The band haven’t released a studio album since 2008’s ‘ 4:13 Dream ‘, but have sprung into action in recent weeks by teasing the new album on social media before sending postcards out to fans confirming the album’s title and release date (November 1, 2024) and erecting a ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ poster at the Crawley pub where they played their first gig.

Now, it looks like more information could be on the way via a new secret website.

To gain access, fans need to visit www.songsofalost.world and then enter the album release date in Roman numerals: I. XI. MMXXIV. You’ll then get a glimpse of what could be new artwork in the form of a decaying statue, as well as being invited to sign up to a mailing list and join The Cure’s WhatsApp community.

Upon messaging the WhatsApp channel, one is soon sent a lyric from new song ‘Alone’: “ This is the end of every song that we sing… Where did it go? ”

It is expected that the fans will be sharing more new information and potentially new music via these channels.

The news comes ahead of the  release of two new songs as live recordings that will be a double A-side for climate charity ‘Earth Percent’ .

Released via  Naked Record Club – a record label that releases limited edition records on sustainable vinyl, ‘The Cure – Novembre: Live in France 2022’ is a double A-Side 12” Eco-Vinyl single featuring two live tracks (‘And Nothing Is Forever’ and ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’) that were recorded during the French leg of  the band’s ‘Shows Of A Lost World’ tour .

Back in 2022, The Cure also performed two other new tracks titled ‘Alone’ and ‘Endsong’ while kicking off their world tour . All of the unreleased songs are speculated to be featured on the band’s long-awaited new album, ‘ Songs Of A Lost World’.

In a  four-star review of their live performance at London’s OVO Arena Wembley during that year ,  NME noted Smith took the time to promise “that the new songs ‘won’t be new for much longer.’”

The review also described the new tracks, sharing: “The ticking clock piano rhythms and rolling bass of ‘A Fragile Thing’ accompany the promise that there’s “nothing you can do to change the end”, while ‘Endsong’ is a stunning, sprawling soundscape to portray Smith utterly lost in a universe where there’s “ Nothing left of all I loved ”.

“The truly devastating heart of the new material previewed comes with ‘I Can Never Say Goodbye’ – where howling guitars match the singer’s fear of ‘ shadows growing closer now ” as  “something wicked this way comes, to steal away my brother’s life’ . You feel that these songs are for those who mean the world to him.”

Speaking to  NME  backstage at the  BandLab NME Awards 2022 , Smith  took the time to exclusively confirm that The Cure’s next album would be titled ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ , sharing: “It’s got artwork, it’s got a running order, it’s almost done! They’re so slow because of vinyl, but it might come in September. I’d rather it just came out. I can’t stand the anticipation.”

He also revealed more about its sister record and his anticipated solo album. “So I’ve been working on two Cure albums, and one of them is finished,” he added. “Unfortunately, it’s the second one that’s finished. [On the other] I’ve got to do four vocals, and there are 10 songs on each album. We’re mixing next month on April 1, so I’ve got three weeks left.”

Asked about the sound of the upcoming records, Smith revealed: “Well the first Cure album is relentless doom and gloom. It’s the doomiest thing that we’ve ever done. The second one is upbeat, and my [solo] one won’t be out until next year.”

The frontman has long teased  the band’s long-awaited “merciless” new record , which keyboardist Roger O’Donnell previously described as “the most intense, saddest, most dramatic and most emotional record we’ve ever made, and then we can just walk away from it… Listening to the demos, it is that record. I think everybody will be happy with it.”

Smith previously opened up about how losing his mother, father and brother has inspired the ‘darkness’ within the forthcoming album , telling The Los Angeles Times: “obviously it had an effect on me. It’s not relentlessly doom and gloom. It has soundscapes on it, like ‘Disintegration’, I suppose. I was trying to create a big palette, a big wash of sound.”

He added: “The working title was ‘Live From the Moon’, because I was enthralled by the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing in the summer. We had a big moon hanging in the studio and lunar-related stuff lying around. I’ve always been a stargazer.”

the cure lost world tour dates

Speaking to NME about his hopes for the album, Smith said : “Before I used to write about stuff that I thought I understood. Now I know I understand it. The lyrics I’ve been writing for this album, for me personally, are more true. They’re more honest. That’s probably why the album itself is a little bit more doom and gloom. I feel I want to do something that expresses the darker side of what I’ve experienced over the last few years – but in a way that will engage people.”

The frontman added: “Some of the albums like ‘Pornography’ and ‘Disintegration’ are kind of relentless. I levelled ‘Disintegration’ with some songs like ‘Lullaby’ and ‘Lovesong’, but I think this one is more like ‘Pornography’ because it hasn’t got any of those songs that lighten the mood at all.”

Elsewhere, O’Donnell recently revealed that he was diagnosed with blood cancer last year . The band’s keyboardist shared the news last week (September 1) on the first day of Blood Cancer Awareness Month.

He took to his official X/Twitter account to reveal that he was “diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma” back in September 2023 and has since since recovered.
