Can-Am today reveals the all-new Can-Am Canyon 3-wheel vehicle as part of its 2025 lineup. The Can-Am Canyon is the most rugged and adventure-ready 3-wheel vehicle BRP has ever made. Brembo brakes with ABS bring the Canyon to a stop quickly and securely, with impressive stopping power. 2025 Can-Am Spyder

Last year, Can-Am focused on enhancing the rider connectivity for the Spyder models, adding a 10.25-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay. If you're looking for a vehicle that combines the features of a car and a motorcycle, a three-wheeler may be just the thing.

Three-wheel vehicles are much less common than those of the two- or four-wheel variety, but they're not new. The first self-propelled land vehicle, created in the 1700s, had three wheels, not four.

Three-wheel transportation has certain unique benefits. Relative to two-wheel vehicles like motorcycles, they offer more passenger room and better stability. And some choices in this class cost less than most four-wheel cars and provide better fuel efficiency.

The three-wheel vehicles in this slideshow are excellent options if you're thinking about getting one of these unusual rides. Some are decidedly car-like, while others are just a wheel away from being a motorcycle.

Keep in mind that licensing requirements for three-wheel vehicles vary by model and state. Sometimes, a standard driver's license is all that's required. In other cases, you may need a motorcycle license or a special three-wheel motorcycle endorsement.

POLARIS INC. |

• Polaris Slingshot

Three-wheeled vehicles borrow features from cars and motorcycles. While that's also true of the Polaris Slingshot, this model definitely leans more toward the car end of the spectrum.

Its futuristic design looks straight out of science fiction, and it has side-by-side seating for a driver and a passenger. Pricing ranges from $21,999 for the entry-level S trim to $38,149 for the high-performance Roush Edition variant, which has sporty upgrades like Brembo brakes.

The standard engine is a four-cylinder with 178 horsepower and 120 pound-feet of torque. Standard features include LED headlights, cruise control, proximity keyless entry and keyless ignition. Apple CarPlay, an audio system and an infotainment system are optional.

• Morgan Super 3

Morgan is a British company that makes three-wheel vehicles, and it was founded in 1909. The Morgan Super 3 is a three-wheel cruiser that resembles antique cars from the early 1900s. It provides seating for a driver and front passenger, with an open-air experience designed to keep you in touch with the elements and the road. The Super 3's side blades serve a dual purpose: They keep air flowing through the radiators and provide a place for mounting luggage.

Morgan reports that the Super 3 has a top speed of 130 mph and sprints from zero to 62 mph in 7 seconds. This vehicle starts around $54,000.

• Campagna T-Rex RR

The Campagna T-Rex RR's scowling front end features upturned headlights, and its profile has fastback lines. The T-Rex RR tips the scales at a lean and mean 1,098 pounds, and its light body weight helps facilitate sporty handling.

A four-cylinder Kawasaki engine lives under the hood. It provides 208 horsepower for lively acceleration.

This three-wheeler doesn't come cheap, starting at $68,999. Campagna offers many customization options that allow you to make a personal statement with the T-Rex RR. These include different bezel, brake caliper and seatbelt colors and a variety of wheel designs.

• Can-Am Spyder RT

Some three-wheelers favor cars, but the Spyder RT resembles a motorcycle with an extra wheel. Like a motorcycle, a rider pilots the vehicle sitting astride it, and there's room for a second rider sitting right behind. The Spyder RT has two wheels in front and a third in the back, giving it better stability than a motorbike.

A 115-horsepower engine motivates this three-wheeler. It comes standard with amenities like an adjustable electronic windshield, heated driver grips and a BRP Audio four-speaker audio system governed by a control module on the handlebar. In addition, all models have a 10.25-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay. Pricing starts at $26,599, and you can upgrade to more expensive trims with additional features.

• Can-Am Ryker

Starting at $9,599, the Can-Am Ryker is one of the most affordable three-wheel vehicles you can buy. It's at home on asphalt, concrete or dirt, so it's excellent if you're looking for a vehicle with the versatility to tackle different types of terrain. Can-Am claims this vehicle is available with thousands of customization options, so you have many ways of making it your own.

You can choose from a Rotax 600 or 900 cc engine, and this vehicle has a Sport Mode for drifting and an Eco Mode for those seeking to maximize gas mileage. In addition to the base model, the Ryker comes in Sport and Rally trims, which have upgrades like cruise control.

• Can-Am Spyder F3

The Spyder F3 is a three-wheeler that's comfortable enough to serve you well on longer journeys. It has a 115-horsepower engine for zippy acceleration, and you can choose from Eco and Sport modes. There is a certain measure of utility because this vehicle provides 6.5 gallons of storage capacity. The standard features include LED headlights, a 10.25-inch touch screen and Apple CarPlay.

The base S trim starts at $22,099. The lineup also includes T, Limited and Limited Special Series trims. The top trims offer additional storage and amenities like heated grips and a premium BRP six-speaker sound system.

• Harley-Davidson Freewheeler

The Freewheeler is part of Harley-Davidson's small, curated family of three-wheel vehicles. The front half looks like a typical motorcycle, but the back half has two wheels and a wide stance. The Freewheeler's engine produces 90 horsepower and has a torque rating of 119 pound-feet. It has a weatherproof trunk with a top-mounted door that makes it easy for you to load cargo.

This Harley-Davidson has a fuel economy of 43 mpg. It also has standard rider safety enhancements like an anti-lock brake system, electronic linked braking, traction control and a drag-torque slip control system.

Pricing begins at $31,999.

• Harley-Davidson Road Glide 3

Harley-Davidson defines the three-wheel Road Glide 3 as a trike. Its engine generates 90 horsepower and 119 pound-feet of torque, returning 43 mpg. Its exterior design features triple split-stream vents intended to minimize helmet buffeting when the Road Glide 3 operates at high speeds. A rear trunk with a top-mounted door provides space for your cargo, and 19-inch gloss-black wheels keep this vehicle glued to the pavement.

Every Road Glide 3 has an infotainment system with a 6.5-inch screen. Standard features like traction control and a drag-torque slip control system help keep you safe on the road.

The Harley-Davidson Road Glide 3 starts at $34,999.

Mana in Mahi: Hawke’s Bay solo mum’s journey from the benefit to behind the wheel success

Hawke's Bay solo mum Melanie Watts was 'going nowhere'. Now, she's thriving as a driver for heavy industry.

Getting behind the wheel of heavy machinery is a ‘cool job’ for beneficiaries to look into, according to New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. For one Hawke’s Bay solo mum it’s been so much more than that.

Hastings woman Melanie Watts grew up watching her dad and uncle drive diggers, but she never imagined at 50 she’d be following in their footsteps, and changing her life in the process.

For 15 years Watts had been relying on the benefit as she raised her son, trying her best as a solo mum, struggling with depression, and in her words, “going nowhere ”.

“I sort of hit a plateau. I wasn’t really going anywhere in life and had to do something to pull myself out of it,” she said.

“It just came to the point where I was totally sick of that kind of life.”

With the help of the Ministry of Social Development’s Mana in Mahi programme, Watts was employed by Hawke’s Bay infrastructure company Tūpore last year.

She had never been a digger or truck operator, so she had to work her way up as a labourer. However, she was given the opportunity to get truck driving certificates, gaining valuable skills.

“I decided I wanted to get my licences, so when I did get a job, I was going to go into it making good money.

“My calling at Tūpore has been my best and most rewarding achievement because everything has sort of naturally fallen into place.”

Watts’s journey into the predominantly male-dominated profession started as a kid when she watched her dad and uncle get behind the wheel of trucks, viewing them as role models.

Now heavy machinery is her calling too.

“Although I’m mostly concentrated on truck driving, I’m equally excited driving dump trucks, diggers and loaders as well,” the 50-year-old told Hawke’s Bay Today .

Watts is approaching her first annual review with the company, and her only regret is not having found the job sooner.

She attributed much of her personal growth to getting rid of people, places, and things that didn’t align with her future goals.

“I took the time to really work on myself. It’s really important who you associate with. If you can’t keep good people around you, then you really have to go it alone.”

Watts was also thankful for Tūpore’s leadership team and her fellow male workers, who supported her and many other wāhine like her to thrive at work.

“We look at it like a waka. We have a man named Gavin, a very strong, successful guy, and we presented him with an oar for the waka.

“We’re behind him. Because he’s got such a brilliant outlook on life, we do the same.”

It’s not just a few women taking to heavy industries either; Watts said she had also seen a resurgence of female drivers in Hawke’s Bay, taking the same steps as her and finding careers that are just as rewarding.

“I’ve got another digger operator in the truck next to me, and we started this journey together. We did our Class 2 together and are both in the same company doing really well.”

Her advice for others who may be struggling was to believe in themselves and not be afraid to ask for help.

“Once you make the first step and decide you want to get into the industry, everything sort of just falls into place.

“Reach out and get help if you are struggling because there are some really strong support networks out there. I can’t believe it; these next 50 years are like a whole new chapter for me, and it’s really exciting.”

An E Bike Rickshaw for Group Fun

The E Bike Rickshaw from sixthreezero is a great way to take rides with family or friends. This electric bike rickshaw can carry up two adult passengers or three children on the back bench seat. That means up to three adults if you count the driver, and four total passengers if you have three children on the back plus the driver. It's even possible to attach a child seat onto the front handlebars. This means the rickshaw can carry up to four children and one driver for a total of five passengers. This electric rickshaw can carry loads of up to 500lbs. The back bench seat can hold up to 300lbs. For short range transportation this electric rickshaw is hard to beat. You'll save money on gas but loading up the family on to the rickshaw and venturing out. Let's get into all of the specs and features on this electric trike rickshaw.

Motor on the Electric Rickshaw

The motor on the rickshaw is a 750 watt front hub motor. This motor can carry a load of up to 500lbs on flat ground. The driver has the choice of either pressing the throttle to go or have the electric assistance aid their pedal strokes. The throttle on the e bike rickshaw is a thumb throttle, located right by the riders thumb. It can simply be pressed gently by thumb and the rickshaw will go. The pedal assist will engage when you start pedaling, if the assistance is in a level higher than zero. There are five levels of pedal assist, one through five, with five giving the most power. You will be able to achieve top speeds of 16mph, but it will be less if carrying a load close to 500lbs.

Battery & Range

The battery is a massive 48v 21ah which totals 1,008 watt hours. This battery will allow riders to obtain a range of up to 50 miles. The range will depend on how the pedal assist and throttle are used during the ride. Using the throttle will drain the battery more quickly than if you pedal assist is used. Also, the weight of the passengers will have a big impact on the range of the battery. The heavier the load the less range you will get from the battery. Without passengers the range will be much further than with passengers. The terrain will also impact the range. Riding on very hilly terrain will drain the battery quicker than riding on flat ground. If you are looking to preserve the battery on your rides try and not use much electric assist when you can. On flat ground usually pedal assist level one or two is enough depending on the load on the bike. Another option is to also buy a backup battery that you can bring with you rides. Having an extra battery can give you piece of mind knowing you won't run out of power on your ride.

The brakes on the e bike rickshaw are font and rear brakes mechanical disc brakes. There are three brakes, one located on each wheel. This provides maximum stopping power. The disc brakes will grab tightly on downhills as well, ensuring you can ride safely downhill. The brake levers are comfortable and easy to pull. There is also a parking brake that can be engaged when the e bike rickshaw is parked. This will prevent the electric rickshaw from rolling away.

The Electric Bike Rickshaw Tires

The tires on the electric rickshaw are wide, very wide. All three tires are 4" wide, a key feature that allows the tricycle to stay firmly planted on the ground. The rear tires are 20" diameter while the front tire is 24" diameter. This is by design so the rickshaw is set lower in the rear, keeping the passengers lower to the ground. This creates more stability when riding. The four inch tires grip the pavement nicely, providing exceptional balance on corners. The passengers feel safe and secure riding in the rear with the wide tires griping the terrain. The driver can easily steer and balance allowing them to keep both themself and passengers safe.

Underneath the passenger bench seat there is a storage compartment. The compartment features a latching closure that can be opened and closed easily. Store your belonging in here and rides. Steering the rickshaw is actually very simple. If you haven't ridden a tricycle before, steering is different than on a two wheel bike. But the rickshaw, even with the passenger seat and large tires steers very easily. The wide tires keep the tricycle very balanced on the ground. This keeps the rickshaw stable when rounding corners. Having passengers on the back of the rickshaw is hardly noticeable when riding. Because of the design the e bike rickshaw steers easily with or without the added weight of passengers on the back bench seat. Getting used to how a three-wheel bike rides may take a few hours. The principals of steering are different on an electric trike compared to a two-wheel bicycle.

It's very wide, so be aware of that before buying a pram that barely fits your car boot. Also, the loading/unloading ar difficult since it's rather heavy. Otherwise, it's a nice value for money. Good for about 2 years of age.

Is it safe to go running / jogging with this pram?

I will probably disappoint you but no, the small doubled wheels was not at all designed for jogging, and doing so with this pram may result in tipping the stroller to the side or getting stuck and tip it over. For jogging, you need to check three-wheelers with a larger single front wheel.

Is it durable?

Yes, the Journey is a very sturdy pram from the Mothercare brand . It might be its folded size and internal measurements (seat) are not top-notch, and - as every stroller, it has its pros and cons - but the durability, sturdiness is overall well rather in Mothercare Journey reviews.

I ​rented a Tesla on Turo for a road trip. I own an EV, but 3 things about the Model 3 still surprised me.

• Gia Mora, an electric-vehicle enthusiast, went on a 1,000-mile road trip in a Tesla Model 3.
• She rented the car on Turo and wanted to see whether the sedan stood up to her electric ride.
• Mora said it felt like driving a computer but that the Tesla delivered on the hype.

My friend Amy and I both drive electric cars. But after deciding to drive to our friend's house in Northern California, neither her Nissan Leaf nor my Fiat 500e had the range necessary to conveniently travel 500 miles.

We decided to rent a longer-range electric car on Turo, a peer-to-peer car-rental app .

We were both curious about the Tesla experience, so we consulted an online Tesla Supercharger map , which showed 45,000 charging stations. It confirmed there were plenty of stations along our anticipated route.

We searched Turo for Teslas with unlimited mileage available for pickup and drop-off at John Wayne Airport. We booked a 2022 rear-wheel-drive Model 3 for about $65 a day.

This Model 3 offered a top range of about 260 miles — middling compared with long-range vehicles such as the ultraexpensive Lucid  but plenty of battery capacity for our slow-travel purposes.

I was eager to try long-distance travel in an electric sedan, as I'd road-tripped over 18,000 miles in an electric SUV .

Would the Model 3 — the most popular electric vehicle in the world — live up to the hype?

Picking up a car rented from Turo

The first morning of our trip, the owner messaged Amy with the parking-spot number at the airport where she'd find the Tesla. She had to send a selfie holding her driver's license in front of the Model 3's license plate so the owner could verify her identity.

The owner then unlocked the car remotely and directed Amy to a key card inside, which had to be placed on a specific spot on the console for the Tesla to start.

Amy then drove from Orange County to Los Angeles County to pick me up.

While loading my luggage, we found an adapter in the trunk that allowed the Model 3 to be charged at stations outside the Supercharger network so we'd never wind up stranded with a dead battery.

Amy and I agreed to charge after no more than 200 miles. For our journey north to Salinas, we'd need to stop twice for about 30 minutes for each charge.

We weren't concerned about the added hour (or more if we had to wait for a charger) to our travel time because we planned to explore the area along each stop.

While charging in Santa Barbara, we visited a local coffee roaster and an olive farm in San Ardo while filling up at one of the farm's 12 Superchargers.

On our return trip, our charging stops included visiting the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo and a Whole Foods snack break in Santa Barbara during our final fill-up.

Even at the busiest Superchargers, we never had to wait for a station. And we traveled home on a Sunday — one of the most notoriously congested charging days.

Flights may have cost slightly less than the total $400 that Amy and I split for our weekend of travel. But we loved our zero-emissions experience and participating in the sharing economy with Turo.

More than 1,000 miles later, our journey was successful, but there are some things I wish I'd known about road tripping in a rented EV.

Using a key card is different from controlling the car by app

Teslas owners can lock, unlock, and operate their cars with an app on their phones. Renters have to rely on key cards.

While we'd understood where to place the card to start the car, we couldn't figure out how to lock it.

I'd searched online for "how to lock a Tesla," and everything I read said the car locked itself when the driver exited. We assumed that applied to the key card, too.

On our last day up north, Amy realized we'd left the Tesla unlocked overnight and inadvertently left the climate control on, chipping away at our charge as the car sat in the late summer sun.

We'd fully charged the day before, so it set us back only a few minutes of extra charge time .

Again, I frantically searched online for how to lock the car, this time including the search term "key card." We discovered tapping the card on the driver's side door frame locked it.

We tapped the card. The Model 3 beeped once, the mirrors folded in, and the doors were locked. We were lucky nothing got stolen and would have benefited from knowing this before the penultimate day of our trip.

Tesla Superchargers are easy to use, but it's hard for renters to track costs

Because Tesla manufactures EVs and runs the Supercharger network, the systems work together seamlessly.

Pull up to a station, open your charge port, and insert the charger. The Tesla automatically begins charging, billing directly to the credit card on file. There's no messing with apps or external screens.

You can see the estimated charging time on the dash touchscreen, but the rates, which fluctuate based on charging speed and the time of day, are not evident to renters.

Since we don't own the Model 3, our charging was billed to the owner, who billed us. That made it more difficult to tell what we'd spent on charging fees .

We could have found that information through the touchscreen, but it didn't seem worth the effort as we knew it wouldn't be extortionate.

Our final bill for charging was about $120: $100 for the charging fee and $20 for returning the car with less than a 50% charge.

We learned that while you could pull up to a charging station, Tesla advised drivers to navigate to the charging station through the touchscreen. This "preconditions" the car so it charges faster.

We thought we'd done that before our first charge, but we hadn't and the car notified us accordingly.

Tesla Model 3 one-pedal driving is hard to adjust to

By default, the Model 3 uses a single pedal to speed up, slow down, or stop the car. Take your foot off the accelerator and the car comes to a halt.

This EV quirk has a purpose: It captures the energy lost during braking and coasting and returns it to the battery to extend range.

One-pedal driving takes some getting used to, especially in reverse, where you must depress the accelerator instead of releasing your foot from the brakes.

Some practice reversing before we departed would've spared my friends from several jerky parking-space exits.

On the highway, however, I found one-pedal driving reflexive and comfortable. And after our weekend in the Model 3, I'd even smoothed out my single-pedal skills in stop-and-go traffic.

Like any new car feature, with a bit of trial and error, one-pedal driving becomes second nature.

Tesla Model 3 is worth the hype

The Model 3 had a reliable range, accessible charging stations, luxurious seats, and glasslike driving.

Still, I found that the Tesla felt like driving a computer. There are no buttons. Everything from the direction of the air vents to the opening of the glove compartment is controlled through the touchscreen.

While this might become second nature to Tesla owners, as a first-time renter — even one with significant EV experience — the touchscreen learning curve was steep.

Between Tesla's recently reduced prices and the available rebates, it's hard not to recommend the Model 3 to folks interested in EV travel as renters or owners.
