Having a holiday spent underwater in a cozy hotel sounds luxurious. However, some minds still wonder that even with such tranquillity, costing people $292,000 (€258,000) is a tad too much. Do you have to be a SCUBA diver to stay at the Poseidon Undersea Resort?

No. Access is simple: Guests will enter the Poseidon Undersea Resort through an elevator at the end of a pier. Additionally there is no difference between the pressure inside the resort and the atmospheric pressure at the surface, so anyone can enjoy the resort. Plus the interior is completely air-conditioned and humidity controlled.

I've heard of undersea habitats. What's the difference between the Poseidon Resort and an undersea habitat?

A typical undersea habitat is basically a research facility for divers. Occupants are exposed to the pressure of the ocean corresponding to the depth of the habitat, so they are subject to certain physiological restrictions and often require decompression. The Poseidon Undersea Resort is completely different; like a submarine, the pressure inside the structure never changes from surface pressure regardless of depth. Guests can enter the resort, stay as long as they like, and relax as if they were in their living rooms at home.

What makes the Poseidon Undersea Resort so unique?

Ours will be the world's first permanent one-atmosphere sea floor structure and the world's first true undersea resort. Guests will enjoy five-star luxury accommodations, all with stunning views of the underwater world.

How much will it cost?

The Poseidon Undersea Resort will be the only place where you can spend a night underwater on the sea floor with a spectacular view. The "once in a lifetime" experience will be worth every penny. See our Rates & Reservations section for more information.

What makes the undersea suites so special?

About 70% of the exterior surface of the suite is transparent acrylic making the undersea views panoramic. Outside of the sitting area of each suite will be a private artificial reef that will be the home for unique varieties of marine life. Each suite will also have its own underwater lights controllable from an inside switch and an external fish feeder (limited use per 24 hours) as well. Guests will be able to push a button and feed the fish outside. The level of luxury in the suites themselves will be unsurpassed with the finest fabrics, woods and fixtures. Each suite has a large jacuzzi tub with fabulous views of the sea floor as well.

With all that transparent acrylic, what about privacy?

The suites are set up with a reflective film so that it is nearly impossible to see into them during the day. At night, guests will be able to opaque sections of the viewports to increase their privacy.

What will the restaurant be like?

The world’s first sea floor restaurant will provide spectacular viewing. The restaurant will seat 64, and the bar, 36. Cuisine will be strictly five-star with an eclectic selection of some of the world’s best dishes prepared by Master chefs and served by skilled, personable and attentive waiters and waitresses.

What is the resort’s most spectacular feature?

That is a very difficult question to answer as different aspects of the resort impact people in different ways. Certainly just being able to relax in a spacious undersea environment is incredibly peaceful and unique.

What other amenities are available?

The Poseidon resort will also have a library/lounge/conference  room exclusively for the use of its patrons. There are also two undersea spa treatment rooms and an undersea wedding chapel. One of the most interesting activities will be the opportunity to learn to pilot a 3-passenger submersible. Your personal pilot will teach you and your companion the skills necessary to explore Poseidon’s unique lagoon.

On shore the resort will have a reception area, restaurant and lounge, swimming pool, luxury spa and hydrotherapy center, gift shop and tennis courts as well as a nine-hole golf course and a marina. There will also be a dive shop with recompression chamber. The resort will have a private plane to fly guests to and from Nadi International Airport on the main island of Viti Levu. From there non-stop flights are available to several international destinations including Auckland, Sydney, Vancouver and Los Angeles.

How safe is the resort?

The resort is built to rigid safety requirements with high levels of structural integrity, large safety factors and fully redundant fail-safe systems. Each room is completely isolated from the central hall and other rooms with a double pressure proof door system and independent emergency life support systems.

Tourist submarines carry approximately one million passengers each year and have a perfect safety record making them statistically the world’s safest form of transportation. The engineers at U.S. Submarines have incorporated many of the same safety systems found in tourist subs into the Poseidon Undersea Resort.

Will the resort be open to the public?

Anyone can make a reservation to stay at the resort. At this time  the intention is that the resort facility will only be accessible to  resort guests, so non-guests will not be permitted on the island. Guests in the on-shore bungalows will have access to the underwater facilities.

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM L. BRUCE JONES

There is something magical, mystical and uniquely captivating about the prospect of living under the sea. So many of us as youngsters immersed ourselves in the books of Jules Verne or sat, wide-eyed and mesmerized, as we watched Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

I was fortunate enough to live an incredibly unique life. As a child my playgrounds varied from the deck of a jack-up rig in the Persian Gulf to the wheelhouse of a tug boat in the South China Sea.By the time I was 18 I had been diving for nine years and had thousands of sea miles in my wake, always encouraged by parents who taught me that anything was possible.

Poseidon is a vision that I have carried in my mind for decades and was made possible by two things, 1) the connections and experience derived from being self-employed in the civil submarine business for 19 years, and, 2) most importantly, the incredible group of people that have shouldered the burden and responsibility of making Poseidon a reality.

Poseidon is the world’s first significant, permanent and habitable one-atmosphere sea-floor structure. To me, this is absolutely the most surprising aspect of the Poseidon project — the fact that nothing like it has ever been done before.

With my very best regards and continued thanks,

L. Bruce Jones

Poseidon and the environment

The Poseidon Project is more than a resort. It is a life-changing experience, a celebration of nature’s wonders, an illustration of responsible behavior towards our environment.

All around the Poseidon Mystery Island, an unspoiled tropical marine ecosystem awaits its visitors. A specific program was designed to prevent negative impact on this environment - throughout construction and operation of the resort - and provide the most inspiring vision to our guests, for many years to come.

The Poseidon Coral Reef Sanctuary Project, conceived as a non-profit program (future link to website) will invite guests, scientists and audiences worldwide to enjoy and support a unique conservation, education and research program focusing on coral reefs. Another world first, the Enhanced Reef Program will be be implemented inside the island’s lagoon, utlizing state-of-the art coral farming and propagation techniques in order to encourage the development of biodiversity.

The Poseidon Coral Farm located on the island will offer visits and lectures to resort guests and represent a collection of preserved marine species accessible to scientists for their research and to children and students as part of our educational programs. More than a dozen international organizations and many more regional and local ones focus on reef preservation and restoration programs. Poseidon will showcase a methodology that can benefit many such projects around the world.

The Resort

Providing all the comforts, conveniences and opportunities only a five-star resort can offer, Poseidon’s Mysterious Island is the culmination of every elite vacationer’s vision.

Activities abound for adventurers who wish to explore the unimaginable, like maneuvering a personal Triton submarine through a lagoon, exploring the ocean’s depths as the passenger of a 1,000-foot luxury submersible, and scuba diving in pristine waters. Those who seek solitude will find the epitome of relaxation when indulging in marine-focused spa treatments and meditation under the gaze of only the moon and stars. Whether traveling alone, as a pair, or in a group, you will find what you seek.

Services available include two fine dining establishments, one on land and one below the sea, presenting plates of culinary excellence day and night. A dive shop and retail boutique will also be at your service, along with a library/lounge, theater area and conference room/wedding chapel. Fitness amenities include a nine-hole executive golf course, tennis courts, private splash pools and a fitness center.

And then there’s your definitive playground… the ocean.

Suites and villas.

Poseidon Mystery Island offers two means of guest accommodations, one above ground and one below the surface. Guests will have the opportunity to explore each comfortable, intimate world during the course of their stay, with full access to facilities in both areas.

Rooms are easily accessible for most guests, regardless of physical condition.

Each suite and villa includes:

  • A king-sized bed laden with Scandinavian down duvets, plush pillows and high thread-count linens.
  • A sitting room featuring a library and personal office with voice/data access, Wi-fi and high-speed Internet connections, and multi-line telephones.
  • Entertainment technology, including a large, high-definition flat screen television; CD/DVD player; and satellite radio with surround sound.
  • In-room refrigerators, which will be continuously stocked with gourmet snacks, champagnes, wines and soft drinks.
  • Rich marble bathrooms with a large Jacuzzi tub, bidet, two sinks, a shower and a wealth of plush towels. Bathrobes, natural loofah sponges, hair dryers and a selection of marine-influenced beauty products are also provided.

ISLAND VILLAS

Each of the 48 luxurious bungalows (locally known as “bures”) found on Poseidon Mystery Island boasts its own splash pool and courtyard visible from an open living room. Decorated to compliment the natural surroundings, each TK–square–foot bure offers a wrap–around lanai, covered dining area, and a spectacular view of the turquoise lagoon. Many are West-facing so occupants can also enjoy dazzling sunsets. Each bure is air–conditioned and features natural wood furnishings.

Villa

UNDERSEA SUITES

Each of the 24 Undersea suites measures 51 square meters (approximately 561 square feet) and offers a totally immersive underwater experience.  A full 70% of the surface are of each suite is transparent acrylic.  Privacy can be maintained by guest controlled LCD screens covering each acrylic panel.  The focal  point will be the huge full diameter transparent  wall at one end of the suite, looking  out to a private coral garden. Each  suite will also be equipped with underwater  lights and push button fish feeders.

SUITE CONSTRUCTION

Measuring 10m x 5.1m (33ft. x 17ft.), each undersea hotel suite comprises 51m (550 ft.) of floor space. The suites are built as detachable stand–alone modules that are placed when neutrally buoyant and mated to the main corridor assembly and were built to meet American Society of Mechanical Engineers Code for Pressure Vessels for Human Occupancy.

Each suite has an integral high–tech carbon fiber door that opens outward to maintain the unit's watertight integrity during installation or removal. The main corridor has a similar opposing door to insure the integrity of the complex. The release of the module is simply accomplished by closing both doors and flooding the space between.

Exceptional visibility is due to the use of transparent acrylic plastic (polyethyl methacrylate), a material that has been used frequently in deep submersible and aquarium applications over the past 20 years. The material is strong and remarkably transparent, and its characteristics are well understood. The resort's design takes full advantage of acrylic's ability to maximize viewing while maintaining structural soundness.

Steel wall structures are 25 mm (1in.) plate, which follow the same curve as the acrylic, which is 60mm (2.4in.) thick. Acrylic window sections are set into a steel frame and are 3.05m (10ft.) in length around the curve and 1.75m (5.7ft.) wide.

SAFETY & MAINTAINABILITY

ABS classed tourist submarines carry approximately one million passengers each year (for the past 20 years) and have a perfect safety record, making them statistically the world’s safest form of transportation. Poseidon’s undersea resort was designed by U.S. Submarines  to meet the structural requirements applicable to a submarine pressure hull; all components of the resort are structurally very strong with a high overall safety factor. Each individual component of the complex will be automatically isolated in the highly unlikely event of a structural breach. Every unit has a safety dome with an entrance hatch where professionally trained divers can enter. Diving staff regularly practice rescue procedures in a purpose–built unit.

Maintainability

With the exception of the central corridor, which is permanently fixed to the structural base of the facility, each individual unit is neutrally buoyant and capable of being removed from the complex–and the water–if necessary. All important systems are shore–based or can be found inside the complex for easy maintenance. Automated viewport cleaning systems remove marine growth from transparent surfaces.

LOCATION & LOGISTICS

Get your passport ready, as you are about to embark on a world–class voyage to a location that nobody knew existed… until now..

The mystery will begin once you arrive in Fiji. Via our twin–engine aircraft, a uniformed pilot will whisk you and your party to Poseidon Mystery Island, where you will receive a tour of the fantastic resort that will be your place of escape.

The magnificent island is the result of an inactive volcano, which eventually housed a thriving coconut plantation. An abundance of palm trees still encircle the island, providing shade and homes for many species of birds. Expect to also see local fauna like coconut crabs, giant clams, sea turtles and dolphins.

If you choose to arrive by boat, the lagoon surrounding the island accommodates vessels 500 or more feet long. The entrance to the lagoon is 35 feet deep and 200 feet wide. A marina and moorings will be available.

Poseidon Mystery Island is the only one of its kind but overwhelming interest has led to consideration for future locations. Check this website regularly for updates.

HISTORY & TECHNOLOGY

There is nothing in the world like poseidon’s undersea resort..

Since Jacques Cousteau's Conshelf I in 1962, approximately 70 ambient pressure habitats (intended mainly for short–term scientific research projects) have been built. Today only two underwater habitats are operating, both in the Florida Keys: The U.S. Aquarius, a private NOAA–sponsored scientific research habitat in 50 feet of water, and Jules Undersea Lodge, a successful single room underwater motel accessible only to trained divers via underwater entry.

Poseidon’s undersea resort differs from previous habitats in that it is "one–atmosphere." This means that the interior of the structure is always at surface pressure so that, unlike ambient pressure habitats, Poseidon's occupants are never exposed to the physiological effects of hydrostatic pressure.

Vacation with us under the sea. You’ll become part of history in the making.

Poseidon is currently working with the worlds leading acrylic provider and is proud to announce that due to advances in acrylic manufacturing and post processing techniques, we will be able to utilize acrylic that is near optically perfect with bonding joints that are less than 1mm thick and virtually invisible to the human eye.  Several other exciting updates are on the way.  Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter by clicking on “Connect” .

Due to overwhelming demand, Poseidon’s management team is now investigating several potential locations for the second resort.  To date over 150,000 people have registered to be notified when we begin taking reservations and the Fiji Resort will only be able to take 7,200 reservations per year.  We will post updates as we hone in on additional potential locations.

9 Best Underwater Hotel Rooms Around the World — and 1 Fantastic Undersea Restaurant

These underwater hotels give you the chance to observe sea life like never before.

tour of underwater hotel

If you've been there and done that with all the best land-based hotels around the world, then it's time to take a dive into the deep blue sea to find all the best underwater hotels on the planet.

Yes, you read that correctly. Underwater. As in sleeping with the fishes — but in a good way. In waters from north to south and east to west, there are gorgeous accommodations hiding just under the waves, and all come with the same fantastic service and amenities you expect on firm ground. Ready to take the plunge? Here are nine of the world's best underwater hotels to book for your next grand adventure, along with one bonus underwater experience to try.

Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai

Find total underwater opulence at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. The iconic resort is home to underwater suites with floor-to-ceiling windows that look out to the Ambassador Lagoon, home to 65,000 sea creatures. When guests are finally ready to leave their rooms, they can explore the rest of the resort's fantastic offerings, including its thrilling Aquaventure Waterpark, calming spa, and world-class dining at venues like Nobu and Hakkasan.

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, The Maldives

Conrad Maldives Rangali Island offers a truly spectacular underwater living experience at the Muraka, its two-level villa where the primary bedroom is submerged at 16 feet below sea level. Here, guests can enjoy a bedroom, bath, and living area, all of which come with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out into the ocean — ensuring that you can go to bed and wake up with fish all around. The property is also home to the famed Ithaa Undersea Restaurant , which offers more underwater luxury.

Hotel Utter Inn, Sweden

Have a charming underwater stay all to yourself by booking Hotel Utter Inn in Sweden. From above sea level, the hotel looks to be nothing more than a teeny-tiny red cabin floating in the waters of Lake Mälaren, near the city of Västerås. Below the surface, though, the property (reachable only by boat) comes with a single underwater room that holds twin beds and windows on all sides, providing an intimate view of the lake’s aquatic life. On sunny days, guests can head to the upper deck to catch some rays and gaze upon the city skyline.

Cruise Whitsundays Reefsuites, Australia

Reefsuites , located off the coast of Airlie Beach, offers guests a close-up view of the Great Barrier Reef’s spectacular marine life. The suites are run by Cruise Whitsundays, and accordingly, guests are whisked to them by way of a scenic cruise. The two over/underwater bungalows feature massive picture windows looking out to the azure waters, allowing guests to lay in bed and watch the colorful fish swim by for as long as they wish.

The Manta Resort, Tanzania

Go totally off-grid by booking a stay in the Underwater Room at the Manta Resort on Pemba Island, Tanzania. The eco-luxury resort is home to a floating structure anchored offshore that includes an above-water deck space for guests to lounge on and a submerged bedroom that has panoramic underwater views. It's an intimate space free of any crowds — save for a school of fish or two swimming by your window. The resort also offers plenty more water-centric experiences, including diving excursions that will bring you even closer to the aquatic life.

Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore

Find not one, not two, but 11 underwater suites at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. The two-story Ocean Suites offer underwater bedrooms and on-land living rooms so guests can experience life above and below all at once. And while, yes, the underwater bedrooms are the star, these rooms come with plenty of additional amenities, including private patios with hot tubs and dedicated butler service. When guests are ready to leave the undersea world, they can go out and explore the surrounding area using the hotel's audio-guided nature treks to lead them to all the best spots.

Jules' Undersea Lodge, Florida

You don't need to dig out your passport to find underwater hotel adventures. Simply head to Florida, where Jules’ Undersea Lodge in Key Largo holds the (albeit self-professed) distinction of being the world's first underwater hotel. Unlike the others on this list, getting here requires a bit of work, as guests need to scuba dive 21 feet below the surface to get to the front door. The underwater building was originally used as a research lab, giving it a neat historic appeal. Inside, guests will find plenty of creature comforts like hot showers and a full kitchen — and you can even order a pizza to be delivered to your underwater suite, which is included in the room rate.

InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, China

InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland allows guests to choose whether they want to spend their nights above or below the water's surface. Three different room classes — certain premium rooms, duplex suites, and underwater view suites — come equipped with under-the-sea views, thanks to massive picture windows that act like a portal to the underwater world. The rooms come with plenty of other amenities, too, including butler service in some suites, Nespresso machines, and televisions (not that you really need TV when the real show is swimming right outside your window).

Pullman Maldives Maamutaa, The Maldives

The Aqua Villas at the Pullman will make you feel one with the Indian Ocean. The suites include an underwater bedroom complete with one full wall made of glass, keeping the ocean's majesty in unobstructed view. But that's not the only room you can enjoy. The two-level lodgings also have an upstairs, above-water area, complete with an overwater bedroom for when you prefer to sleep with a fresh breeze.

Bonus: Hurawalhi, The Maldives

Hurawalhi may not have any underwater accommodations, but it more than makes up for it with its truly stunning restaurant, 5.8 , which sits — you guessed it — 5.8 meters below the surface. The restaurant completely envelops its guests thanks to its tunnel-like seating, which ensures every single seat gets a prime view of the aquatic life. It's also a spot where every guest will feel like a VIP, as there is only room for 10 couples total. Best of all, the food is fantastic: Diners can choose a seven-course seafood, meat, or vegan tasting menu (five courses at lunch) for their undersea experience.

The Lagoon at Key Largo Undersea Park has something to offer the snorkeler, SCUBA diver candidate, SCUBA professional, or recreational diver!

Tour the tropical mangrove habitat of Key Largo Undersea Park’s Emerald Lagoon and explore the underwater world of the future. You will find a marine archaeology exhibit, the MarineLab underwater research and education habitat, and Jules’ Undersea Lodge, the first and only underwater hotel in the world.

Jules’ Undersea Lodge (formerly La Chalupa Research Lab) also served as the site of the historic 1995 sea-space link-up in which ocean pioneers Scott Carpenter and Ian Koblick spoke with astronaut Mike Gernhardt aboard the space shuttle Endeavour. Both Jules’ Undersea Lodge and the MarineLab have been used in research on extended space travel.

The lagoon is sheltered but is still considered an open water dive site. It’s 30 feet deep, and has platforms and down lines for SCUBA training.  The world famous PADI organization utilizes Jules’ Lagoon and Key Largo Undersea Park for its exams.  We have witnessed hundreds of new instructors at Jules’ Lagoon.

Besides being an excellent place for learning to snorkel or dive, the Lagoon is home to Jules’ Undersea Lodge, the world’s only underwater hotel where your scuba dive to your room.

Whether you’re a SCUBA instructor looking for a place to work with your students, a diver interested in getting a unique PADI Specialty , or someone interested in Discover Scuba Diving – the Lagoon at Key Largo Undersea Park is the place for you!

Snorkel: $15 per person Dives: $40 per person per day Prices do not include sales tax. Gear rental available from Ocean First on premises.

Andy Bohl, our Vice President of Jules’ Operations, doing a full face mask dive in Jules’ Lagoon.  We get a wide variety of Technical divers visiting the lagoon to check-out new equipment and go over safety procedures before going on deeper or even more technical penetration dives.  Jules’ Lagoon is a safe environment for equipment and safety drills.

Great shot of Andy Bohl

When we don’t have guests in the lodge, our divers are able to dive by the windows and have a look at our bedrooms and common area.

Fish identification is a fun way to dive the lagoon as well.  We have Sea Horses, Snapper, Parrot Fish, Barracuda, Sergeant Majors, Blue Tangs and of course let’s not forget the Manatees who visit on a regular basis.  Our lagoon is open to the creatures who patrol our water ways so we can’t promise you’ll see them all but I’m sure you’ll see quite a variety when you come.

Reefsuites - Underwater Hotel At The Great Barrier Reef

The world's largest coral reef system is located off the coast of Queensland, Australia. The Great Barrier Reef consists of 2900 reefs and 900 islands, and it's one of the biggest natural spectacles in the world.

At this natural wonder, Cruise Whitsundays launched a unique pontoon in 2019, right before Covid hit and everything came to a halt. But once tourism returned to normal, people started to flock to experience underwater life.

Cruise Whitsundays Ferry Boat

Whitsundays is the location of the pontoon and is one of Australia's most popular destinations, as it sits in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef.

Cruise Whitsundays Hotel Dock

A fast boat takes off from the Airlie Beach Marina dock to bring you to Hardy Reef, 40 nautical miles (64 kilometers) from the shore.

Reefsuites Aerial In The Hard Reef

The pontoon's name is Reefworld, and this hotel offers two types of accommodations; glamping and underwater.

Reefsuites Hotel Next To Coral Reefs

The floating hotel is safely docked at the coral reefs without causing any harm to the amazing marine life found here.

Reefsuites Hotel Deck

The on-deck Reefsleep has cozy tents with a sea view, while the lucky ones can take one of the two underwater suites.

Reefsuites Tent

The open-air tents are on the boat's top deck, and here you can experience sleeping under the stars.

Reefsuites Tent Sunset

And you will not have to move an inch to see the breathtaking sunsets over the Great Barrier Reef.

Reefsuites Underwater Room

Australia's first underwater hotel

There is a door with a private sign, hiding a staircase with glossy white walls leading down to your underwater suite.

The rooms are submerged 10 feet (3 meters) deep in the sea and have a large wall of windows. Even the floor is (partially) glass! It's made of proper hard stuff, so you can lay on it if you wish to.

The king-size bed is sea-facing, so you can wake up to the view of playful fish swimming around.

Reefsuites Hotel Underwater Room Marine Life View Through The Big Glass

Underwater sunset

Another unique experience to have is an underwater sunset. Sounds weird? Maybe, but as the sun goes down and less light penetrates under the water's surface, you can see how the sea gets progressively darker, and life slows down.

It's a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you should take advantage of, as the suites don't come cheap.

During the dark hours, the seabed's spotlight turns on, illuminating the marine life that gets close to your window.

Reefsuites Hotel Underwater Bathroom

The bathroom comes with a full-size shower, linen ropes, plush towels, and an unforgettable view. Have you ever showered with fish staring at you? No? I thought so.

And although you can use the blinds if you are worried about snorkelers passing by, you would miss all the fun.

If your skin looks blueish, don't panic! The underwater room gets colored with hues of blue.

Reefsuites Hotel Underwater Bathroom Window

There are only two underwater suites that book up quickly, so there are months-long wait times.

Reefsuites Hotel Gourmet Dinner

If you book the Reefsuites, a fine dining experience awaits you, prepped by gourmet chefs. The dishes are served on the boat's deck with a stunning sea view and fresh breeze of air.

Reefsuites Hotel Snorkeling

When you are ready to leave the spectacular underwater room, you can go for a private guided snorkeling tour.

Hard Reef Snorkeling

The experienced guide will point you to the fascinating marine life and share information about it.

Hard Reef Snorkeling With Fish

So next time you snorkel alone, you will recognize yellow and blueback fusilier.

The refurbishment of the Reefworld pontoon is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund.

Cruise Whitsundays is proud to support the region’s unique natural environment in delivering this Australian-first tourism experience.

We love where we live and work, so it’s our aim to ensure the Great Barrier Reef can be explored and enjoyed for generations to come.

Our team is working hand-in-hand with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority to ensure all elements of this project are approached in a sustainable and environmentally conscious manner.

Once work is completed later this year, the refurbished pontoon featuring two Reefsuites will be returned to its former location on Hardy Reef, thus minimising impact on the surrounding marine environment.

In working with the relevant environmental agencies during this project, we are proud to have achieved the largest natural coral transplant ever to be undertaken on the Great Barrier Reef.

More than 4000 pieces of coral have been sustainably removed from old moorings and successfully replanted onto the existing reef wall to rejuvenate the local environment. As part of this, we’ve also established a coral farm to encourage further growth in the area.

Our commitment to the marine environment continues well beyond the launch of this exciting project. The new pontoon will be a hub for public education, providing accurate reef knowledge and conservation guidance to our many visitors.

We look forward to sharing the incredible stories of the Great Barrier Reef with you.

Day 1 moscow.

Arrive at Moscow Airport, where you are met and transferred to the stylish five-star Four Seasons Hotel Moscow. Located in the historic building of Moskva Hotel and occupying one of the most enviable addresses in the very heart of Moscow, the hotel is a short walk from the Kremlin, Red Square and the Bolshoi Theatre.

On your first evening in Moscow you will be invited to a champagne drinks reception before our exclusive Welcome Dinner. Specially selected international wines are included with dinner, as with all meals during the tour.

DAY 2 Moscow

Our touring programme of Russia’s capital takes us to the grandeur of the Kremlin – the spiritual, historical and political heart of Moscow – and to see the treasures of the Tsars in the Armoury Chamber where we will enjoy an exclusive private viewing.

Our exploration of the city continues with a visit to Red Square, the iconic symbol of Russia’s former military and political might with its eclectic mix of fascinating architecture. Here we visit the ornate St Basil’s Cathedral’s magnificent onion-domed spires and marvel at the beautiful façade of the world-famous GUM department store which was constructed in Tsarist times.

Lunch is served in Café Pushkin, a legendary Moscow restaurant with a décor that revives the atmosphere of an early 19th century mansion and serves traditional Russian cuisine. An essential part of any visit to Moscow is a tour of the opulent and unique stations of the Moscow metro – showpieces of Socialist art furnished with statues, frescoes and mosaics, unsurpassed anywhere in the world.

If you have been to Moscow before we offer an included Freedom of Choice touring programme where we show you other sights of Moscow such as the famous State Tretyakov Gallery (National Museum of Fine Art) or the Space Museum (all subject to opening times).

Upon arrival at Moscow Kazansky Station in the late afternoon, you will be greeted in the ornately decorated Imperial Waiting Room with a cold glass of Russian Champagne and canapes as you mix with the other guests and are welcomed by the train staff. The excitement in the waiting room audibly mounts and, 30 minutes before departure, your car attendants will escort you to Platform 1 where the Golden Eagle awaits ready for departure.

DAY 3 Kazan

Situated on the River Volga, the picturesque and historic city of Kazan is the capital of Tatarstan. Here we see for ourselves its rich tapestry of history and culture. One of the highlights of this city tour is our exploration of the Kremlin Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the walls of this ancient citadel we will explore the stunning mosque and picture-perfect onion-domed cathedral.

As Kazan is the birthplace of one of Russia’s most famous opera singers, Feodor Chaliapin (1873-1938), we honour his memory with a private concert of his music. You will also have time to wander through the main pedestrian area of Kazan and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the city.

DAY 4 Yekaterinburg

ounded in 1723 by Peter the Great, Yekaterinburg is the capital of the Urals. Known as the Great Divide, the Ural Mountains create the natural border between Europe and Asia so that the cultural and architectural influences of European and Asian civilisations come together in this fascinating and cosmopolitan landscape. Our city tour takes us to the poignant site where the Romanov, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, was executed with his family by the Bolsheviks in 1918 following 78 days of imprisonment. Now a church dedicated to their memory, this site provides us with a powerful insight into the turmoil of the Russian Revolution. We will also drive to the obelisk marking the geographical border can drink a glass of champagne with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia.

Time permitting, our Freedom of Choice programme features a visit to the recently opened Museum of Military Machinery. The museum houses an amazing collection of different types of military hardware including tanks, aircraft, boats and even armoured trains. The museum is a real treat for anyone with an interest in the Soviet past, unparalleled by anything else along the route. Alternatively, we will make a short stop at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Centre, recently opened in Yekaterinburg, which is dedicated to the contemporary political history of Russia and its first president.

DAY 5 Novosibirsk

A modern ‘Soviet’ city, we experience the life and character of Novosibirsk’s rich culture where the arts and science predominate. The city is located in the heart of Russia and is situated on both banks of the River Ob. Our city tour takes us to Lenin Square where the imposing Opera House is located. An architectural marvel, it houses two permanent ballet and opera companies and is one of the largest opera houses in the world. In front of the Opera House, we visit an impressive statue of Lenin – a marvellous opportunity to have your photograph taken with this iconic political leader.

Time permitting, south of the city we will visit Novosibirsk’s excellent Railway Museum. The museum displays locomotives and rolling stock from the late 1800s, including carriages of the Tsars, through to the Soviet era. Alternatively, as part of our Freedom of Choice programme, you may choose to visit the Mineralogical Centre with its fine display of Siberian minerals.

DAY 6 On Board

A day to unwind and reflect on the many sights and sounds we have experienced on our journey so far.

Chat to your fellow passengers, perhaps learn a few words of Russian or simply enjoy the ever-changing landscape outside your window as it unfolds.

DAY 7 Irkutsk

Our visit to Irkutsk, the ‘Paris of Siberia’, takes in the most significant sites and museums in this fascinating city, including an exploration of the classic wooden architecture with its intricately carved lace-like decorations that has given many of this region’s buildings such a distinctive and unique appearance. We also visit the Volkonsky House Museum, which is dedicated to the memory of the aristocrats who were exiled to this remote outpost after the failed Decembrists uprising of 1825. We recreate the atmosphere of that time with a champagne reception and private concert.

You could learn to cook some traditional Russian dishes with a local chef and prepare your own lunch with our Freedom of Choice option. Or you might also wish to visit a traditional Russian Dacha (summer house) to get an insight into the everyday life of an average Russian family.

Please note: Freedom of Choice touring options may be subject to variations dependent on finalised train timings and local weather conditions.

DAY 8 Lake Baikal

Few natural sights can surpass the beauty and grandeur of Lake Baikal, a major highlight on our Trans-Siberian journey. Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world and holds 20 per cent of the world’s freshwater. Also known as the ‘Pearl of Siberia’, it is home to a unique breed of freshwater seal and over 50 species of fish including omul. For five hours we wind our way through tunnels along cliff hugging tracks above the lake. With a vista of snow-capped peaks along the far shore forming a picture-perfect backdrop, we gain a full appreciation of the engineering achievement which produced this part of the railway in the early twentieth century. To add to the grandeur of the day our Golden Eagle train will be hauled by a Soviet Era steam locomotive on this beautiful section of line. There will be plenty of opportunities to take photographs as the train winds its way along the lake.

Weather permitting, we stop in an extremely picturesque location by the lake for photographic opportunities. For the brave hearted, there is time for a refreshing swim in the crystal clear and ice-cold waters of Baikal. Travelling onwards to the end of the Baikal branch line, we leave the train and travel by boat on the lake to Listvyanka, a small Baikal settlement nestling at the base of the surrounding hills and visit the Lake Baikal Museum and Aquarium where you can learn about the flora and fauna of the lake.

We will enjoy a delicious barbecue prepared by our own chefs, including freshly smoked omul fish, in the delightful covered dining area on the shore of Lake Baikal to complete a memorable day.

As part of our Freedom of Choice excursion programme you can choose a hiking opportunity up Chersky Mount or you can choose to take the chair lift, which offers some spectacular and panoramic hillside views of the grandeur of the lake below.

DAY 9 Ulan Ude

The ethnic and cultural diversity of Ulan Ude, the capital of the Buryat Republic, offers a unique insight into its heritage. As we tour the area you will notice the different faces of these welcoming Buryat people.

During our exploration of the Old Believers’ Village we have the opportunity to learn about the culture and history of these religious people as we are treated to a concert featuring local traditions and folk singing.

DAY 10 Ulaan Baatar

Our Trans-Siberian adventure takes us into Mongolia and a visit to its capital, Ulaan Baatar. Mongolia, once the very centre of an enormous empire led by Genghis Khan, is a country of beautiful landscapes and nomadic people, rich in culture and history. Mongolia is famous for its endless green Steppes, grazing livestock and white, nomadic Gers (Yurts) dotted across the countryside.

We start the tour at Gandan Monastery, one of Mongolia’s most important Buddhist Monasteries housing a community of over 500 monks. The full name, Gandantegchinlen, translates as ‘the great place of complete joy’. At Chinggis Square (formerly Sukhbaatar Square) we can see the central monument to Genghis Khan, undoubtedly the most feared and revered Mongol. We then drive out of the city to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and enjoy the beautiful scenery of wild Mongolia, having the opportunity to visit a traditional Ger and meet a nomadic family or try our hand at horse-riding, an intrinsic part of Mongolian life.

Alternatively, there is an option to stay in the city as part of our Freedom of Choice touring. After Gandan Monastery and Chinggis Square we visit the National Museum where we learn about the country’s intriguing history. We will also see Bogd Khan Winter Palace Museum, the winter residences of Bogd Khan, the last Mongolian emperor, built between 1893 and 1903.

We can also explore the city and have some free time for shopping for Mongolian souvenirs and their specialty cashmere. We will also enjoy a performance of traditional Mongolian throat singing and contortionists.

Please note, depending on final timings provided by the railway authorities we may substitute the railway journey from Russia into Ulaan Baatar with a private jet charter from Irkutsk or Ulan Ude so that we can maintain the advertised programme for Mongolia.  This will be advised to you in your final documentation.

DAY 11  On Board

Enjoy a more leisurely pace today as we travel through the beautiful landscape of the Russian Far East.

You may wish to attend one of the interesting lectures or Russian language lessons.

DAY 12  On Board

It’s the perfect opportunity to practice your Russian or simply relax as our journey today follows the Shilka and Amur rivers, close to the Chinese border.

Enjoy Russia at its most dramatic and remote, as the Golden Eagle eats up the miles on our way to Vladivostok.

DAY 13  On Board

Passing directly north of Seoul, Darwin and Osaka, we spend our last full day on board the Golden Eagle today as the most easterly point of this mammoth journey is reached passing through Khabarovsk, where we cross the River Amur.

Tonight we enjoy our final dinner on board our private train that has been our home for the last twelve days as we approach our final destination on this unforgettable journey.

DAY 14  Vladivostok

Vladivostok is a military port located on the western shores of the Sea of Japan and is home to the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet. Due to its military importance, the city was closed to foreigners between 1930 and 1992. Vladivostok (literally translated as ‘Ruler of the East’) offers visitors an interesting opportunity to explore its principal military attractions including a visit to a preserved World War Two submarine. Our city tour will also take us to the iconic suspension bridge over Golden Horn Bay, one of the largest of its kind worldwide, which opened in 2012 for the APEC conference.

This evening you are invited to our farewell dinner. Specially selected international wines are included with dinner, as with all meals during the tour. Our hotel in Vladivostok, where we stay for one night, is the five-star Lotte Hotel Vladivostok.

DAY 15  Vladivostok

Following breakfast, spend the remaining time in Vladivostok at your leisure, followed by your transfer which will take you to the airport to begin the return flight home.

Ukraine war latest: Iran transfers 'more than 200 missiles' to Russia; Putin 'cocky and smug', says CIA chief

The US has warned of "dramatic" Iranian escalation - after reports emerged that short-range missiles had been sent from Tehran to Moscow. Putin was branded both "cocky" and "smug" by the CIA director during a joint security conference with the head of MI6.

  • Live reporting by Ollie Cooper

We're pausing our live coverage - thanks for following along.

We've spent much of the day discussing Iranian-Russian relations - with Sky News being told by a Ukrainian source that hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles have arrived in Russia from Iran.

Kyiv expressed concerns - just a day after Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed calls for the West to supply Ukraine with weapons that could strike airfields on Russian soil.

On the battlefield, Moscow reported further advances in the east of Ukraine, while Kyiv continues to hold a significant portion of the Kursk region in Russia

We'll be back tomorrow with more updates on the Ukraine war.

Funerals for those killed in a massive Russian attack on a military academy in Poltava have taken place today.

More than 50 people were killed in Tuesday's attack, which the country's first lady described as a "stunning tragedy for all of Ukraine".

Russia's defence ministry said the strike targeted soldiers and foreign instructors.

Iran's alleged supply of ballistic missiles to Russia is worrying, our   military analyst Sean Bell   says.

Bell says Russia "tends to use older weapons" but unlike Ukraine it "has the volume".

"Both sides are struggling for weapons and at the moment Russia has ramped up its domestic production but it desperately needs weapons from Iran and North Korea," he says.

The delivery reportedly contains short-range ballistic missiles.

"They will give Russia more volume of missiles but it will also mean Russia's limited supply of its own Iskander missiles can now be focused on long range targets - that's very worrying," he says.

"We [also] understand that Russian soldiers have been in Iran doing training for the last few weeks."

Speaking on the UK's announcement yesterday that it will supply more than 650 missiles to Ukraine, the military expert says the challenge will be the need for caution about providing the war-torn country with the most modern weapons in case they fall into Russian hands.

He adds: "Ukraine desperately needs that technology and volume, so that's the big challenge at the moment."

More from the directors of the CIA and MI6, who were speaking at the FT weekend festival earlier today.

During the event, Bill Burns discussed the prospect of nuclear war erupting at the start of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Speaking alongside the head of MI6 he said: "There was a moment in the fall of 2022 when I think there was a genuine risk of a potential use of tactical nuclear weapons.

"The [US] president sent me to talk to our Russian counterpart, Sergei Naryshkin, at the end of 2022 to make very clear what the consequences of that kind of escalation would be," he added.

"I don't think we can afford to be intimidated by that sabre-rattling or bullying [but] we've got to be mindful of it."

Russia has frequently threatened nuclear war since the start of the conflict in February 2022.

By Deborah Haynes , security and defence editor

Iran has transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for its war in Ukraine, a Ukrainian source has told Sky News.

The move - reportedly involving more than 200 missiles - would mark a significant ramping up of Iranian military support to Moscow, if confirmed.

Bill Burns, the director of the CIA, was asked about the claim when he appeared at an event in London with his British counterpart, Sir Richard Moore, the head of MI6.

He did not confirm the allegation, but said: "Should Iran ship ballistic missiles... it would be a dramatic escalation of the nature of the defence partnership."

The Ukrainian source said a Russian ship delivered the Fatah-360 missiles - each with a range of more than 70 miles - to a Russian port in the Caspian Sea.

It's anticipated that the munitions will now undergo tests.

The Russian military will then conduct training on them - before they are launched against Ukraine.

Iran has long been feared of having supplied ballistic missiles to Russia.

The Iranian regime has already supplied large quantities of attack drones as well as artillery shells and ammunition, helping to bolster Russian firepower on the battlefield to devastating effect.

Ukrainian drones hit a munitions depot in the Russian region of Voronezh overnight, a Ukrainian security source has told the Reuters news agency.

The attack, which took place last night, was on what Ukraine believed to be a depot used to transfer weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

You can see the Voronezh region highlighted on this map - bordering both the Belgorod and Kursk regions.

"At this moment, there are still four pockets of a powerful fire observed at the site, as well as the unceasing detonation of munitions," the source said, adding that the attack was carried out by the Ukrainian SBU security service.

Alexander Gusev, the Russian governor, said this morning "explosive objects" had detonated after a fire in the region's Ostorogozhsky district.

He said there had been no casualties, but that a state of emergency had been declared locally, with several hundred people evacuated and a major road closed.

Our security and defence editor Deborah Haynes   was there for us - and noted one particularly interesting part of the discussion between Sir Richard Moore and Bill Burns...

Vladimir Putin was branded both "cocky" and "smug" by the CIA director during a joint security conference with the head of MI6 run by the Financial Times.

You can watch Bill Burns and Sir Richard Moore discuss the Russian president here...

Ukraine's foreign ministry has expressed concern over reports that Iranian short-range ballistic missiles have been transferred to Russia.

In a statement sent to journalists, the ministry said the deepening military co-operation between Tehran and Moscow was a threat to Ukraine, Europe and the Middle East.

It also called on the international community to increase pressure on the two countries.

CNN and the Wall Street Journal both reported yesterday that Iran had already transferred missiles to Russia, citing unidentified sources, although how many was not yet clear.

However, Reuters  reporting  from August suggested that Russia was expecting "hundreds" of the Fath-360 close-range ballistic missiles - and that Russian military personnel were being trained inside Iran on how to use them.

Earlier this morning, we reported that the US would view this move as dramatically escalatory (see 8.12am post).

You can also read about what Iran gets out of its dealings with Russia in our 10.30am post.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said yesterday Ukraine now controls more than 1,300sq km in the Kursk region.

The Ukrainian president also suggested that the invasion has resulted in about 6,000 casualties among Russian forces so far.

But how has that impacted the war inside Ukraine?

Analysts have suggested that Russia has moved some troops from the frontlines, but has not committed the crack forces required to throw Ukraine off its soil thus far.

Ukraine's top military commander Oleksandr Syrskyi told CNN that the operation in the Kursk region was working and that there had been no Russian advances on a key sector of the eastern front inside Ukraine for six days.

"Over the last six days, the enemy hasn't advanced a single metre in the Pokrovsk direction. In other words, our strategy is working," he said.

Mr Syrskyi said the military had also noted a decrease in shelling and the intensity of the Russian offensive in other sectors.

'Significant tactical achievement'

Speaking at a joint security conference with the head of MI6, CIA chief Bill Burns said the invasion marks a "significant tactical achievement".

However, MI6 boss Richard Moore said it was too soon to say how soon Kyiv could hold the territory.

The national picture...

When it comes to the national picture, Russia is pressing on with its goal to take over the east of the country.

They are slowly inching forward towards the city of Pokrovsk - just northwest of Donetsk - which provides critical rail and supply links for the Ukrainian army.

Losing the city could put additional Ukrainian cities at risk.

This morning, Russia's defence ministry claimed Moscow's troops have claimed the village of Kalynove -just lies southeast of Pokrovsk.
