Meaning of TRIP by Boslen

Album Cover

Listen to the full song on Apple Music

The song "TRIP" by Boslen explores themes of success, confidence, and hedonism. In the verses, Boslen reflects on his achievements and the life he has created for himself. He boasts about his success, referencing his luxury car, money, and partying with his friends. The line "I ain't in a rush 'cause we did it my way" suggests that Boslen has achieved his goals on his own terms and is enjoying the fruits of his labor.

The chorus emphasizes the idea of not letting small problems or negativity interfere with his lifestyle. Boslen tells the person not to trip, meaning not to worry or stress out, possibly referencing potential conflicts or drama that may arise due to his success. The repetition of this message reinforces his confidence and carefree attitude.

The bridge suggests a moment of reflection and introspection. Boslen contemplates the passing of time and encourages slowing down and enjoying the present moment. The line "cold made her lose control, no, she don't roll with the typical" may refer to a romantic or sexual encounter where Boslen attracts a woman who is not interested in conforming to societal norms.

In the second verse, Boslen continues to celebrate his success and fame, mentioning the attention he receives from groupies. He also acknowledges that as his profile rises, his circle of close friends becomes smaller. This could imply that he is becoming more selective about who he surrounds himself with as he navigates the music industry.

The pre-chorus explores relationships and the dynamic between Boslen and his partner. He acknowledges his drug use and questions if his partner is willing to be by his side despite his lifestyle choices. The chorus is then repeated, emphasizing the message of not letting anything or anyone disrupt his lifestyle and confidence.

In Part II, the third verse takes a grittier turn, using more aggressive language and imagery. The lyrics seem to touch on themes of rebellion and disregarding societal norms. Boslen challenges conventional expectations, expresses fondness for those who think differently, and rejects conformity.

Overall, "TRIP" by Boslen portrays a self-assured artist who revels in his achievements, while also acknowledging the challenges and complexities that come with success and fame. The song celebrates living in the moment, refusing to let negativity or obstacles hinder his journey.

BOSLEN DROPS MOODY AND MIND-BENDING NEW VISUALS FOR “TRIP”

Kevin Bourne

Vancouver artist and former SHIFTER Artist of the Month , Boslen, recently returned with his first release of 2021 titled “Trip”, the first single off his upcoming debut album DUSK to DAWN . Blurring the lines between  pop, hip-hop, and R&B, the track is literally a sonic trip as the Jamaican and Indigenous Canadian artist marries smooth and steady vocals with a high energy delivery.

On the track, he takes some time to address his haters and anyone who will stand in his way.

“I’m ducking the bullets, I’m ducking the clowns/You live life to the fullest ‘til you not around.”

Today, he followed that up with a brand new video directed by Bailey Wood. Both Boslen’s laid back vocals and the production are intoxicating as we see him, his girl and homies chillin’ and having drinks. As Boslen in turn finds himself intoxicated, the beat changes as things get even more wild and trippy.

“Trip” is available on all major streaming platforms. To check out the music video click the image in the header.

BOSLEN RELEASES MIND-BENDING SINGLE: TRIP

The genre-busting Vancouver up-and-comer Boslen dives deep into his bag of tricks for the moody, mind-bending single TRIP out now. Listen HERE . This is the first single from Boslen’s forthcoming debut album DUSK to DAWN. TRIP is a vivid day-in-the-life story from Canada’s next star, celebrating the successes of a whirlwind year in his own woozy, wilding way.

As we’ve come to expect from Boslen, TRIP is a sonic joyride through indie pop, rap, and R&B, while psychedelia swirls and drums dart in and out of trap. Boslen drifts over and dives into the shifting production (from justsayin, NXSTY, and MSXII), spitting about taking every opportunity and passing up naysayers: “I’m ducking the bullets, I’m ducking the clowns/You live life to the fullest til you not around.” For Boslen, TRIP is a chance to reflect on his journey so far, even while pushing his sound into the future. “It feels like there are constant highs and lows being an artist that’s coming up,” he says, “I wanted TRIP to showcase both the light and the dark.”

DUSK to DAWN will be Boslen’s first project since 2019’s Black Lotus EP, which peaked at #11 on the Canadian Apple Music streaming charts. He’s been hard at work releasing a slew of singles/videos including Hidden Nights , and Lightspeed , which is off the Black Lotus EP. In 2020 Boslen dropped VULTURES , and My Ways , which showed how much he’s been refining his style and expanding his scope. This new album is poised to accelerate his eclectic sound even further, moving fluidly from genre to genre while orbiting Boslen’s Swiss-Army-knife delivery. With a vision this focused, and hits like TRIP in the bag, Boslen has already proven himself worth following. Each release offers something brand new.

Trip – [boslen].

Picture of BrodieHarvey

It is the dawn of a new era for Vancouver’s Boslen. The Canadian emcee has always been a source for music that pushes boundaries in terms of energy and sound. He recently dropped his first song of the new year, it has been some time since we last got new music from Boslen but the wait has most certainly been worth it. The chill yet bouncy new single “TRIP” features all the elements that make Boslen such a special talent. We have seen what he is capable of in terms of providing crazy verses when he raps but this song is all centered around his outstanding vocals. We have seen glimpses in the past, but “TRIP” certifies that Boslen can really do it all.

The single dropped a few weeks back but the visuals for the song are what really take things to the next level. We haven’t had a music video from Boslen in nearly a year and his latest is without question his best yet. The video starts out with Boslen rolling to a Vancouver mansion party before the night starts to get the best of him, leading to a full psychedelic, psychotic breakdown. This transition makes the video incredibly memorable, fully showing that Boslen is not only a storyteller with his lyrics but capable of creating cinematic mini-universes for each of his releases.

The Bailey Wood directed video is a strong re-introduction for Boslen as his trajectory continues to skyrocket. While 2020 was a year that did not have many releases from the Canadian superstar in the making, we already have another huge single releasing this week that features Tyla Yaweh. Boslen is an artist I have always been confident would become an international star but it seems like we have found ourselves at the beginning of his global uprising. Pay close attention to Boslen this year, he is about to do something incredibly special.

Atwood Magazine - For the Love of Music

“Connecting with My Identity”: An Essay by Boslen

Boslen © Cameron Corrado

This Black History Month, Atwood Magazine has invited artists to participate in a series of essays, interviews, reviews, poetry, playlists, and more features in recognition of, and out of respect for the symbolism and significance of this month.

Today, trailblazing 22-year-old Vancouver rapper Boslen shares his personal essay “Connecting with My Identity” as a part of Atwood Magazine’s Black History Month series. Effortlessly blending a fusion of classic and modern hip-hop, R&B, pop, rock, and more into his art, Boslen has remained a standout, promising spark of creativity in the Great White North since he released 2018’s debut EP Motionless  ( available on SoundCloud ) and its followup, Motionless II . The artist garnered increased popularity through his 2019 singles “Eye for an Eye,” “Hidden Nights,” and “LIGHTSPEED” – the latter of which is featured on his third independently-released EP, the intimately expressive BLACK LOTUS (which peaked at #11 on the Canadian Apple Music streaming charts).

TRIP - Boslen

Following 2020’s singles “VULTURES” and “MY WAYS” (each of which highlights another side of Boslen’s multifaceted artistry), Boslen broke into 2021 with the buoyant, ethereal, and moody “TRIP” – the lead single off his forthcoming debut album  DUSK to DAWN . A smoldering song full of soaring, woozy psychedelia and raw lyricism, the reflective “TRIP” appropriately marks the beginning of a new chapter at the top of a new year. “It feels like there are constant highs and lows being an artist that’s coming up,” Boslen says. “I wanted ‘TRIP’ to showcase both the light and the dark.” Intense and intimate all at once, “TRIP” truly is a journey. With his debut album on the horizon and a “Swiss Army knife” flow at the ready, the future is bright for Boslen.

“i grew up around a single mother that raised me in indigenous culture. i never met my birth dad who was jamaican. although i am black, black history month is something that wasn’t a huge part of my life until this year. i grew up in a town called chilliwack, just outside of vancouver. growing up i was never exposed to black culture. i have no black relatives nor have i ever had anyone to teach me about the culture. now i am at a point in my life where i have been self reflecting to learn and understand more about my identity. it is very significant to me because it inspired me to learn more about who i am, and how i can teach my fans and community more from my experiences.”, “as black music became more mainstream i have now felt more in tune with the culture. music was my only connection to the culture. so the relationship between music and the black identity is very important to me. it was one of the primary gateways which helped me learn more about myself.” – boslen, connecting with my identity.

TRIP - Boslen

I  grew up in a small town on the outskirts of Vancouver called Chilliwack with a population of roughly 100,000 people. 100,000 sounds like a lot but out of everyone I grew up around I only knew a handful of black people. I don’t know if I fully realized it as a kid growing up but I had very little connection to my identity growing up. My father is black but I never met him so I was raised by my mother who is Indigenous Canadian and my step dad who is also Indigenous Canadian. They taught me everything I know.

Growing up with two Indigenous Canadian parents meant I had no connection to learn about black culture, history, or basics. I was the only black one in my family which meant subtle things like taking care of my hair or having to use specific products was up to me to figure out. My mother was always very supportive and loving but there was not much she could teach me about black culture. I grew up knowing a lot about indigenous culture because that’s what she knew and that’s what was around me.

Boslen © Cameron Corrado

Reflecting on it now, I realize that I never knew the significance of Black History Month or Black history as a whole because I didn’t have an easy access point. I didn’t know what I didn’t know. As I grew older the only exposure I had to Black culture or Black identity was through music. I learned how to dress, the slang I use, and how to navigate in the world subconsciously through listening to black artists.

There was nowhere else for me to learn. I didn’t have any black family and there were very few black people where I grew up. Listening to music and watching music videos gave me a chance to see people that look like me in a position of power. Thinking back on certain memories like being at a skate park and being called ‘jiggaboo’ I now realize that some people thought of me only on the basis of my race. For a long time when I was called jiggaboo I wasn’t even aware of what it meant or why someone would call me that.  It fueled me to be confident and take control of my identity.

When the protests of 2020 happened I started to look at things differently. It was as if there was a big part of my identity that I had never really thought about. I became more conscious of black issues as a whole and it inspired me to learn more about my history as a black man. I am on a journey of self-discovery because the more I know, the more I can be a role model to kids that look like me.

I want to be an example to kids that grew feeling like outcasts like I did or kids that felt like they don’t fully belong.

My journey of self-discovery as a black man is much bigger than me as an individual. For the first time in my life, I am learning about black history month, the civil rights movements and the accomplishments of black people in general. It brings me joy to know that music, the only thing that truly connected me with my identity is the same thing that will give me a voice to show kids that were in my position that anything is possible.

Boslen is ready to enter his pop era

The juno-nominated vancouver rapper opens up about his upcoming album and moving beyond hip-hop.

Social Sharing

"On this album, I don't rap at all."

Rising West Coast star Boslen is all smiles when discussing his upcoming album, Conversations Over Dinner (slated to be released this fall), admitting that just thinking about this next chapter in his career "gives me butterflies in my stomach."

Up until this point, Boslen has made a name for himself by fusing trap, pop and rock, pushing the boundaries of rap with an unabashed experimentalism that has earned him millions of streams, his first Juno Award nomination earlier this year for rap album/EP of the year for his 2022 EP,  Gonzo , and even comparisons to megastar Travis Scott.

In some ways, Boslen's successful genre-blending approach goes hand in hand with the city he's been repping since the start: Vancouver. While born in Chilliwack, B.C., a place he also loves and claims as his own, Boslen's move to North Vancouver after dropping out of school marked the beginning of his music career. Instead of creating a straightforward style of hip-hop, though, Boslen tapped into the creative freedom of his surroundings to produce something unique.

"A lot of artists from Vancouver are not following the trends of Toronto or the U.S.," he points out. "They're actually leaning into their alt-life, they're leaning into their goofiness — they're just doing things they want to do, and I love that." He specifically shouts out acts like BBNO$, Manila Grey and Ekkstacy for helping further cultivate spaces in recent years where they and others can feel safe to play around with their sound.

  • How these Filipino Canadian hip-hop artists are creating a unique sound

Boslen's own take on rap is edgy and distorted, yet on tracks like Gonzo standouts "Gone" and "Scars," also emotionally candid. Fostering a level of connection with his listeners is an important part of his work, because it's what Kid Cudi did for Boslen when he first fell in love with music. When Boslen was young, his mother and stepfather separated, and Kid Cudi's "Up, Up and Away" provided solace for him, as he said in his bio : "I was trying to protect my mental health as a 12-year-old kid." In other interviews, he has credited the Cleveland artist for being the "first in rap to talk about mental health issues," as he explained to Complex .

The first time he recalls being vulnerable in the studio was when he was recording "Forsaken," a track off his 2021 album, Dusk to Dawn . "I was trying to hit this high note and my voice kept cracking, and I got very embarrassed," he remembers. "I told everybody in the studio to leave so I can hit this note, and I kind of let the insecurity take over me ... I didn't like that version of me. So ever since that day, I made it a goal of mine to work through that, which got me to a moment of being able to make a song like [2022's 'Scars']."

"Vulnerability in music is like, you can hear it in the tonality of Post Malone; you can hear it in the storytelling of Drake and his mother … I'm just coming to learn lately that [vulnerability leads to] the most powerful, timeless type of music that you can ever make in your entire life. And the reason why we call some songs timeless hits is because they can cut through every generation and tap into a feeling or a moment there that is so relatable."

Boslen's vision of authenticity nowadays isn't focused on vocal productions or complicated beats. In fact, his vision has simplified: "It's just about my voice, what I'm saying and like, a guitar. I think that's the realest thing ever." That hardly sounds like the hard-hitting, layered style he's refined over the years, but a look at a couple of recent singles hints at this new direction. On "Santa Muerte," Boslen flexes his falsetto on the chorus, sounding lovesick over a slinky soundscape (indeed marked by an acoustic guitar riff). Even catchier is "Crazy," a funk-filled pop anthem about an ex that sonically shares more in common with Bruno Mars than any rapper in the game right now.

"If I'm honest, I was just tired of the comparisons," Boslen revealed, specifically focusing on the Travis Scott example. "He's an amazing artist, but I was like, I want to be my own artist." Although that's not the main reason he's expanded his musical palate: hip-hop as a whole proved to be too small of a box for Boslen, and while he's never been afraid to experiment, he found himself falling into tropes that he has since realized weren't true to his persona.

"When I was rapping, I was just saying things that I thought other people thought were cool," he confesses. "I thought saying the word 'bitch' was good, but it's not. I can't regret it because it's gotten me to where I am now, but just as every great artist does, they just evolve, right?" (Boslen also credits conversations he's had with his girlfriend, whom he calls one of his current influences, as a contributing factor to this change and maturity.)

Another chapter in Boslen's evolution was connecting with his Black identity later in life. In a 2021 essay he penned for Atwood Magazine , Boslen opened up about his upbringing in an Indigenous household, where he grew up learning more about his mother's heritage and traditions.

Having never met his biological father, Boslen wrote: "As I grew older the only exposure I had to Black culture or Black identity was through music. I learned how to dress, the slang I use, and how to navigate in the world subconsciously through listening to Black artists." But as the years went by, he went from absorbing that culture from afar to being embedded in it, spending time in studios with other Black creatives. "That's been one hell of a journey," he says, of finding and learning about himself as a Black man and a Black artist. "Now I don't really even think about it, it's just a part of me now, which is beautiful. But, I still want to learn more."

I used to think it was harder to make the most experimental, out-of-this-world song with three minutes of distortion. - Boslen

That level of personal growth and acceptance has opened up new doors for him musically as well. Wanting to push himself even further, Boslen reached a point where he says he "wasn't satisfied by just making hip-hop anymore." After being connected with Swedish producers Gino Nano and Otto Posado in Los Angeles — in their first meeting, they played a "futuristic, Weeknd, 'Can't-Feel-My-Face'-type beat" and Boslen came up with a melody for it within 15 seconds — he decided to fly to Sweden and spend a month and a half writing songs with the duo. That trip yielded 40 songs, and 12 of them will appear on Boslen's next album.

"I challenged myself in Sweden," he says, adding that he spent time researching the greats like Michael Jackson, Prince and Justin Timberlake. Boslen became fascinated by pop structures and grew a real appreciation for how hard it truly is to create a simple-seeming hit. "I used to think it was harder to make the most experimental, out-of-this-world song with three minutes of distortion," he admits. "But I had an epiphany in Sweden that doing simple things and actually appealing to a wider audience is much harder to do for a long period of time." This, Boslen thought, was his next challenge. And so far, as heard on "Santa Muerte" and "Crazy" (both of which were produced by Nano and Posado and will appear on Conversations Over Dinner ), he's showing that he can transfer his ideas and music intuitions into melodic gold.

When he first moved into his one-bedroom apartment on Hastings Street, Boslen drew a picture of himself on Vancouver's Rogers Arena and put the drawing up in front of his bed. Staring at that illustration motivated him: "It brought me out of where I was at the time, and it helped me live in the future." While he now divides his time between B.C., Los Angeles and wherever else his career takes him, Rogers Arena remains one of his biggest goals. Boslen's pop pivot isn't solely to one day achieve that goal, but it could very well accelerate it.

"I didn't know where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do," he says, when looking back at his old music, which he is still very proud of. "But with this music, I can happily say I will be performing some of these songs at festivals for the rest of my life because there's some timeless music on this album. I always said in my old interviews that I wanted to be that artist for Vancouver and be the one that cuts through. With the music I'm doing now, it will be undeniable."

Wandering around the grounds is like stepping back in time. The Novodevichy Cemetery is where many famous leaders of the Soviet Union are buried, such as Yeltsin and Khrushchev.

10. Pushkin Museum

Pushkin Museum

Despite its name, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts actually has no connection at all to the famous poet other than that it was named in his honor after his death. A delight to visit, its extensive collection focuses on European art with masterpieces by Botticelli, Rembrandt, and van Gogh all featuring.

Sculptures, graphic art, paintings and more can be found in its beautiful galleries; various sections look at themes and epochs such as the Renaissance, the Dutch Golden Age, and Byzantine art.

Among the many highlights are the clownish characters which can be found in Cezanne’s Fastnacht (Mardi Gras) and the twirling ballerinas who look so elegant in Degas’ Blue Dancers. Picasso’s Young acrobat on a Ball is also well worth checking out for its interesting use of shapes and colors.

9. Christ The Savior Cathedral

Christ The Savior Cathedral

This gorgeous Russian Orthodox cathedral is located on the banks of the Moskva River, just a stone’s throw away from the Kremlin.

The church as it stands today was consecrated in 2000, as the original church that stood here was destroyed on the command of Josef Stalin in 1931 due to the anti-religious campaign.

With its delightful golden dome, spires and dazzling white facades, the Christ the Savior Cathedral is stunning. The interior is just as captivating to wander around, with its beautifully tiled floors and impressive altar.

8. Lenin Mausoleum

Lenin Mausoleum

Opened to the public in 1924, Lenin’s Mausoleum is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Moscow. The red granite structure is located at the heart of the city in Red Square.

Lenin’s embalmed body lies in a glass sarcophagus; it is a somewhat eerie experience walking past the former leader of the Soviet Union but is well worth doing as you understandably can’t do it anywhere else in the world.

After visiting the mausoleum, head to the Kremlin wall right next to it for more graves of important communist figures such as Stalin and Brezhnev.

7. Tretyakov Gallery

Tretyakov Gallery

Home to the most extensive and impressive collection of Russian fine art in the world, the State Tretyakov Gallery is definitely worth visiting when in Moscow for the wealth of amazing art pieces that it has on display.

Having started out as the private art collection of the Tretyakov brothers, there are now over 130,000 exhibits. Highlights include the iconic Theotokos of Vladimir which you will almost certainly recognise despite probably not knowing the name and Rublev’s Trinity which is considered to be one of highest achievements in Russian art.

An absolute must for art lovers, the State Tretyakov Gallery will delight visitors with all that is has to offer.

6. Kolomenskoye

Kolomenskoye

Once a royal estate, Kolomenskoye is now a museum-reserve and lies a few kilometers outside of the city center. A captivating place to visit, there is a plethora of history on show and the site overlooks the Moskva River.

Consisting of four historical sites, there are extensive gardens for visitors to explore, as well as loads of interesting old buildings, the former village of Kolomenskoye itself and the impressive Palace of the Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich – once considered the Eighth Wonder of the World by contemporaries.

Among the many stunning sights, it is the brilliantly white Ascension Church that is the undoubted highlight – dating back to 1532.

5. Gorky Park

Gorky Park

Lying alongside the Moskva River, the huge Gorky Park is a lovely place to visit. Its extensive gardens are home to numerous cultural institutions and visitors should definitely check out the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and while the eclectic exhibits may not always feature such incredible sights as a balloon-covered rider on a zebra; they certainly always succeed in pushing back the boundaries of art.

Pop-up exhibitions and festivals can be found from time to time in the park itself and there is an open-air theatre and numerous eateries alongside a plethora of leisure activities.

Whether it’s cycling, table tennis or yoga that you are after or beach volleyball and rowing, Gorky Park certainly has it. In winter, there is a huge ice rink for visitors to enjoy.

4. Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theatre

The Bolshoi Theatre is the main theater in the country. The amazing opera and ballet performances it has put on over the centuries go a long way in explaining Russia’s rich history of performing arts.

While the Bolshoi Ballet Company was established in 1776, the theater itself was opened in 1825. The glittering, six-tier auditorium is lavishly and decadently decorated; it is a fitting setting for the world-class performances that take place on its stage.

Spending a night watching a performance of such classics as The Nutcracker or Swan Lake at the Bolshoi Theatre is sure to be a memorable experience and the beauty all around you only adds to the sense of occasion.

3. Moscow Kremlin

Moscow Kremlin

This famously fortified complex is remarkably home to five palaces and four cathedrals and is the historic, political and spiritual center of the city. The Kremlin serves as the residence for the country’s president. It has been used as a fort, and this fact is made clear by its sheer size. The Kremlin’s outer walls were built in the late 1400s.

Under Ivan III, better known as Ivan the Great, the Kremlin became the center of a unified Russian state, and was extensively remodeled. Three of the Kremlin’s cathedrals date to his reign that lasted from 1462-1505. The Deposition Church and the Palace of Facets were also constructed during this time. The Ivan the Great Bell Tower was built in 1508. It is the tallest tower at the Kremlin with a height of 266 feet (81 meters).

Joseph Stalin removed many of the relics from the tsarist regimes. However, the Tsar Bell, the world’s largest bell, and the Tsar Cannon, the largest bombard by caliber in the world, are among the remaining items from that era. The Kremlin Armory is one of Moscow’s oldest museums as it was established more than 200 years ago. Its diamond collection is impressive.

The Kremlin’s gardens – Taynitsky, Grand Kremlin Public and Alexander – are beautiful. The Kremlin has also served as the religious center of the country, and there is a tremendous number of preserved churches and cathedrals here. The collections contained within the museums include more than 60,000 historical, cultural and artistic monuments. Those who enjoy the performing arts will want to consider attending a ballet or concert at the State Kremlin Palace. Completed in 1961, it is the only modern building in the Kremlin.

2. Red Square

Red Square

Lying at the heart of Moscow, Red Square is the most important and impressive square in the city. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions due to its wealth of historical sights and cultural landmarks.

Drenched in history, the huge square is home to incredible sights such as the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral and Lenin’s Mausoleum, among others. Consequently, it is not to be missed when in Moscow as it really is home to the city’s most stunning monuments.

It is here that many important moments in Russian history took place; the former marketplace has hosted everything from Tsar’s coronations and public ceremonies to rock concerts and Soviet military parades. Wandering around the massive square is a humbling experience and undoubtedly one of the highlights the city has to offer.

1. Saint Basil’s Cathedral

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Located in the impressive Red Square, St. Basil’s Cathedral is gorgeous; its delightful spires appear as if out of a fairytale. The most recognizable building in the country, the cathedral is very much a symbol of Russia. No visit to Moscow is complete without having taken in its unique and distinctive features.

Ivan the Terrible ordered the cathedral’s construction in the mid-16th century, and legend holds that Ivan put out the architect’s eyes so that he would be unable to build another cathedral more glorious than St. Basil’s. Designed to resemble the shape of a bonfire in full flame, the architecture is not only unique to the period in which it was built but to any subsequent period. For various reasons, both Napoleon and Stalin wanted to destroy the cathedral but fortunately did not succeed.

Known for its various colors, shapes and geometric patterns, St. Basil’s Cathedral houses nine different chapels that are all connected by a winding labyrinth of corridors and stairways. On the lower floor, St. Basil’s Chapel contains a silver casket bearing the body of St. Basil the Blessed.

Throughout the cathedral are many beautiful murals, frescoes, wooden icons and other art works and artifacts. Outside the cathedral is a lovely garden with the bronze Monument to Minin and Pozharsky, who rallied an all-volunteer Russian army against Polish invaders during a period of the late 16th century known as the Times of Troubles.

Ticket prices for the Trans-Siberian Railway also depend on the current ruble exchange rate.

Is the Trans-Siberian Railway expensive?

Before starting on your Trans-Siberian Railway adventure you naturally want to know what the entire trip will cost. Although this sounds like a simple question, it is pretty difficult to answer. The Trans-Siberian Railway price of travel depends on the following factors:

  • Which travel class do I want to use? The price for a first class ticket is about three times the price of a 3rd class ticket
  • Am I willing to buy the tickets myself and assume responsibility for the organisation of the trip?
  • How many stopovers do I want to make? The more breaks, the higher the total price.
  • What sort of accommodation do I want? Will it be a luxury hotel or will a hostel dormitory be sufficient?
  • What tours and excursions would I like to go on?
  • What is the current exchange rate for rubles?

Basically, everything from a luxury to a budget holiday is available. If you buy yourself a 3rd Class nonstop ticket at the counter, a few hundred Euros will cover the price. All you will experience is a week on the Trans-Siberian train and will see nothing of the cities on the way. There is, however, any amount of room for upward expansion. Everyone makes different choices about which aspects they are willing to spend money on. I personally prefer to save money on accommodation and railcar class, visit as many cities and do as many trips as possible. To enable better classification of your travel expenses I have contrasted two typical traveler types. In the third column you can calculate the total cost of your own journey on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that these are only rough estimations and not exact prices.

The all-in costs seem fairly high at first. However, they cover everything and it is quite a long journey taking four weeks. Many people forget to consider that when looking at the list. We should also deduct the running costs for food and leisure at home. I think most visitors to this page will classify themselves somewhere between the two categories, that is around the € 2,000 – € 2,500 range. When comparing these prices with other travel packages, you get the impression that it is hardly worthwhile travelling individually on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Please keep in mind that most packages last no more than 14 days and you are herded like cattle through the most beautiful locations.

If you spend less time on the Trans-Siberian Railway you will, of course, pay less. I chose this particular travel length because I prefer not to do things by halves. If you fulfill your dream of travelling on the Trans-Siberian Railway, enjoy it and don’t rush things. But it’s up to you, of course. Try playing around with the form a bit to find the appropriate price for your trip.
