Carnival Cruise Wedding

CruiseMapper logo

This is CruiseMapper's "Carnival Cruise Wedding" dedicated page. Here we provide you with up-to-date information on cruise ship Wedding packages, Honeymoon packages, and Vow Renewal packages, (cost and inclusions), the cruise line's Wedding-Honeymoon registry, as well as tips and advice.

Know that all these prices are additional to cruise fares. At sea weddings cost depends mostly on the package choice (inclusions) and the cruise port of call (part of the ship's scheduled itinerary).

Carnival Cruise Wedding - CruiseMapper

Carnival Cruise Lines Wedding vacations and excursions feature affordable prices, romantic port and island destinations, popular itineraries (as both ports of call and shore excursions choices), a huge fleet with different classes of ships, numerous home-ports (departure choices) and exotic destinations.

Carnival Cruise Weddings

Carnival Cruise Line has the biggest number of departure ports (homeports). Each of the "Fun Ships" offers large staterooms, unique onboard facilities, some of the industry's best cabin amenities, and highly trained specialists most qualified for your special occasion. All you have to do is to say the "I do" - and spend the wedding budget on a cruise ship vacation!

Carnival Cruise Wedding - CruiseMapper

While most couples prefer to say "I Do" on the ship, a sunset on an idyllic beach or in some of the Caribbean's lavish gardens are "special romance" choices is not to be missed - at all!

First tip for your Carnival cruise ship wedding - leave all the planning fuss to the ship's wedding/honeymoon specialist. You'll have to choose only your favorite of all the countless ideas for your most special every day at sea. Or you may set out all your preferences or concerns - there will be plenty of professional answers to all your questions, and numerous options for the type of ceremony itself - from simple to extravagant, traditional to exotic and adventurous, with the most unique requests.

Carnival cruise ship weddings as deals may provide lavish style and sophistication, as well as quiet and intimate choices - it's all about the money. The only rules to comply with are, one, that the ship must be docked at a US port or at permissible ports in the Caribbean (Puerto Rico, Barbados, Jamaica, Cozumel, Nassau, St Thomas), and two, cruise weddings must take place only in designated for this purpose areas. All Carnival Spirit-class ships have their own onboard wedding chapel (also used for religious services, see their names in the list below). On other ships, ceremonies usually take place in a lounge. Vows may also be exchanged on deck, but only if the ship is docked. As a rule, the captain is not allowed to perform a wedding ceremony, unless the ship is docked in Bermuda.

Carnival Cruise Wedding Policy and Rules

According to the Carnival Lines Wedding policy, you are allowed to invite family members and friends who are not passengers. They could join you on the ship while it's docked. Who and how can attend the ceremony? The type of Wedding Package purchased through Carnival determines the number of guests allowed to attend at the ceremony/reception. Sailing guests (paying passengers) will be allowed to participate as well.

Due to security reasons, there are some restrictions imposed on non-sailing guests - those are permitted to board the ship, but you'll have to compile a list of your special guests - their legal names, birthdays, state-issued IDs. Also, your guests will have to show proper identification upon boarding your ship. In some foreign ports, you may not be allowed to bring on board non-sailing guests at all. You should contact the relevant government officials or the ship's wedding coordinator for marriage license requirements/fees.

Not allowed on cruise weddings, restrictions

  • Not allowed are: bubbles, rice, birdseed, flower petals, confetti, balloons and candles, personal servers, knives, flowers, food, also outside photographers, entertainment, equipment.
  • Couples with their own minister - limited to a 20 min ceremony.
  • Couples with their own music - limited to 3 songs.
  • Guests' number limit is max 50 non-cruising guests per wedding.

Carnival cruise marriage license

You are responsible for obtaining a marriage license (which is for a fee) from your cruise wedding destination. You also have to know some stuff regarding the wedding regulations of that country. Some destinations require that you apply for the wedding license in person, others allow submitting an application via mail. The cost of marriage licenses varies by state - from $25 in Alaska to $150 (Florida). Often, your Carnival wedding coordinator can assist you in obtaining your license (for a fee, of course) or at least can provide you with all the information needed to apply for one.

Carnival Cruise Wedding-Honeymoon Registry

  • Step 1 - register your Wedding/Honeymoon plans! Signup for free at carnival.honeymoonwishes.com, select the destination, register for activities, tours and excursions, cabin upgrades, etc.
  • Step 2 - reveal your plan to friends and family! Use the CCL's social media tools (Facebook), send announcement cards or use the CCL's email utility to inform friends/family where's your registry.
  • Step 3 - receive gifts! Your friends and family members will visit your registry to purchase from all gifts you've selected there. They will be able to fill in a "gift card" to let you know what gift they've purchased for you.
  • Step 4 - enjoy it!

Location and ownership

Situated in the southern part of the Bahamas, Half Moon Cay is located just 100 miles southeast of Nassau. The island spans 2,400 acres, with 55 acres of land dedicated to infrastructure and guest facilities. Being privately owned by Carnival Corporation ensures that Half Moon Cay is well-maintained and offers top-notch amenities and services to its guests.

Accessibility via cruise ship

To reach Half Moon Cay, cruise ship passengers need to take a smaller boat from their ship to the island. This is necessary due to the shallow waters surrounding the island, which cannot accommodate larger cruise ships. Guide to Visiting Half Moon Cay, Carnival's Private Island in the Bahamas

Getting to Half Moon Cay

Things to do on half moon cay, tips for visiting.

The Bahamas is teeming with idyllic private islands, some of which are only accessible via cruise ship. Among them is Half Moon Cay. Formerly known as Little San Salvador, the isle was purchased by Holland America Line (owned by Carnival Corporation, the parent company of Holland America and other cruise lines including Carnival, Princess, Seabourn, Cunard, and more) in 1996. The island was officially opened as a port of call in 1997 and has been welcoming cruisers ever since. Its new name comes from the name of the ship in Holland America’s former logo ( Halve Maen , which was captained by none other than Henry Hudson). Coincidentally, the island boasts a beautiful half-moon-shaped beach, making the name extra apropos. Here’s what you need to know about visiting Half Moon Cay, according to travel experts.

Both Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line make stops at this private island paradise. “Due to the shallow waters,” notes Tiffany Formby, travel advisor at Travels by Danielle , “this is a tender port.” This means that passengers have to take a smaller boat from the cruise ship to get to land. With this in mind, she recommends “getting in line early to get tender tickets or booking an excursion/cabana to be one of the first off the ship.”

Carnival and Holland America offer a variety of itineraries from several North American ports that include stops at Half Moon Cay.

“There is no shortage of things to do on Half Moon Cay!” says Kari Dillon, travel advisor and owner of Marvelous Mouse Travels . With miles of sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and all-around stunning scenery, this private island offers something for everyone. Best of all, Formby says, “Half Moon Cay can be an expense-free port stop,” thanks to complimentary amenities like lounge chairs plus a splash pad and playground for children. Whether you prefer to hang loose on the beach or embark on an action-packed excursion, here are some of the best things to do on Half Moon Cay.

Beach Activities

Half Moon Cay is perfect for beach lovers, says Dillon. Per the travel advisor, those seeking extra seclusion along the sand should walk further down the beach area. Oftentimes, “the further you walk away from the tender area, the more secluded the beach becomes,” Formby explains.

Additionally, while the aforementioned loungers are great, you can spend the day swaying away in one of the hammocks  (available on a first-come, first-served basis) or rent clamshell sunshades or umbrellas for extra shade. Cruisers can also rent snorkeling gear, floats (from basic single-person tubes to large multi-person inflatables called “Banas”), and a selection of water sports gear including jet skis, kayaks, water bikes, and stand-up paddleboards.

Excursions and Tours

Both Holland America and Carnival offer a handful of tours and excursions on Half Moon Cay. Fan favorites include horseback riding on the beach, kayaking adventures, snorkeling excursions, glass-bottom boat tours, and stingray encounters. On land, cruise passengers can embark on a bike tour or nature walk (both guided and self-guided options are available). Alternatively, sign up for a guided tram tour of the island to stop at its most popular spots while basking in the beautiful views. Exact offerings vary depending on your itinerary, so be sure to check which will be offered during your sailing as you plan your trip.

Cabana Rentals

For a true treat, splurge on a cabana or villa rental. The former is ideal for smaller groups since the starting price (around $500) includes up to four guests (two additional guests can also utilize the cabana, but expect to pay a per-person surcharge). Amenities include snacks (chips, dip, and fruit), drinks (water and soda), and use of water floating mats and snorkel gear. Cabana facilities include a refrigerator, outdoor dining table and chairs, two deck loungers, and a misting shower. Those interested in renting a cabana should do so as early as possible, says Formby. “Cabana rentals sold out quickly for our sailing since the main draw to the island is relaxing beach-side.”

Meanwhile, the 1,620-square-foot Private Oasis cabana, which, per Dillon, “is the largest and most luxurious on the island,”  is truly in a league of its own. In addition to the aforementioned amenities, this cabana includes a BBQ lunch plus a selection of alcoholic beverages (beers, wine by the glass, and tropical cocktails); other highlights include an eight-person hot tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and your very own team (a chef, bartender, butler, steward, and lifeguard) who are on hand to make your day as memorable and fun as possible. The Private Oasis starts at $1,850 for 12 people, though it can hold a maximum of 24 (you’ll pay an additional per-person charge for groups larger than 12).

Two-story beach villas are also available for rent and include all of the above, plus a five-person hot tub. The starting price of $800 covers eight guests; for groups larger than eight, you’ll incur an extra per-person charge (though there is a maximum of 18 allowed per villa).

When it comes to drinking and dining on Half Moon Cay, there are several options. Budget-conscious travelers can take advantage of the open-air BBQ lunch buffet, which, per Dillon, “is delicious, so you do not need to go back to the ship.” The buffet includes barbecue favorites like burgers, hotdogs, chicken, fruits, salads, and desserts.

Alternatively, for a worth-it splurge, eat at the Lobster Shack, which is priced a la carte. The menu here is simple and straightforward, with the star of the show being — you guessed it — grilled lobster. Next to the Lobster Shack is the Wish I Could Stay Here Forever bar, marked by its Instagram-worthy sign. The island boasts three additional bars, including The Bell Bar and Rum Runners. The most famous bar is the pirate ship-shaped Captain Morgan On the Rocks bar, which, per Formby, is “one of the landmarks on Half Moon Cay.” Dillon echoes these sentiments, describing the fan-favorite bar as “a great place to spend the day sipping on cocktails and enjoying snacks.” According to Dillon, the four bars offer similar menus, and your onboard drink package does not include drinks on the island. There’s also beachside drinks service so you can enjoy a beer or cocktail without stepping foot off the sand.

While a visit to Half Moon Cay is one for the books, there are a few things to note to make the most of your time. There is no Wi-Fi on the island, so Formby recommends bringing another form of communication (like walkie-talkies) to use if you separate from your group.

Dillon also shares a few tips and tricks to consider. First, do not forget to bring towels from the ship ashore with you. Second, remember that the earlier you get off the ship, the better chance you’ll have at scoring a seat in a prime beach location. Otherwise, walk a little further down the beach to find more secluded areas. When hunger calls, she recommends eating on the earlier side so you are not caught in a line during the lunch rush — that way, you have more time to explore the island, relax on the beach, or wade in the water.

Also, unbeknownst to many, the island has a small post office where guests can mail postcards to friends and family back home — a fun and low-cost activity for everyone in your group. You can also treat your loved ones to something from the on-site souvenir shop or straw market. Animal lovers may have the opportunity to snap a selfie with Ted, the island’s absolutely adorable resident donkey.

Last but not least, couples can even choose to get married on Half Moon Cay. The oceanfront scenery and on-site chapel serve as the perfect setting for nuptials. Both cruise lines offer wedding packages and can provide further information and assistance to help plan your special day.

Question for anyone who was married in Half moon Cay

Cool Cruiser

We are planning on getting married on a carnival cruise next year, the ceremony will be in Half Moon Cay but we're a little concerned about how many guests they can accomodate? We may have as many as 50 but Carnival says we should keep it to 30 or less. We'll be maried on the beach with no chairs so I would think it wouldnt matter how many people.

Also they charge $8.50 per person extra. What does that include? Theres no transportation costs and the cake is extra anyway. Just a glass of champagne? The price is $1950 for the wedding I would think there wouldnt be that big of a charge for each person thats basically standing on the beach watching the ceremony.

Any advice form people who have done this would be great! Thanks.

Where are you finding the $1950 pricing? This states pricing just for bride and groom is $1850 on HMC. Their wording is confusing; I don't know what the extra charge includes. Have you called them and asked?

Where are you finding the $1950 pricing? This states pricing just for bride and groom is $1850 on HMC. Their wording is confusing; I don't know what the extra charge includes. Have you called them and asked?   If you want your wedding on HMC, I don't think you have any choice what you pay; it has to go through Carnival and you have to pay their fees.     While in the port of Half Moon Cay, Bahamas s   extra 100 dollar surcharge for being in May so its 1950 which is fine. It just seems like anyone could stand on the beach and watch the wedding for free and not pay $8.50 a person, i dont think its a private beach.   Anyone that has been there please chime in, also curious if 30-50 people would be too many for that location?? **On Island-Half Moon Cay: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $1,850.00* *For the port of Half Moon Cay (only), these package prices include the Marriage License fee for Half Moon Cay. **The On Island pricing includes the bride and groom only. Additional guests may attend for a fee. Note: The Chapel on Island can only hold a maximum of 12 people. On-Island wedding package does not include a wedding cake. Additional surcharges may apply. Due to tendering, no non-sailing guests permitted.

So what ever happened? Did you have the 50? I'm already booked to do this in Sept and plan on having all 50 there! I thought it was weird for the $8.50 but when I asked they said it was for champagne.:confused::confused:

We aren't leaving until May 25th so I can let you know how it goes after that. They ended up telling us there is no limit on the amount of people which is good because we a little over 70 booked and paid in full! You pay the 8.50 even for kids and they get an applejuice!

Half Moon Cay: What To Know Of Carnival Cruise's Exclusive Island

Half Moon Cay is one of the greatest private islands in the Bahamas and is a key feature of Carnival Cruises.

Quick Links

Why half moon cay is one of the most stunning private islands, how to get to half moon cay, activities to enjoy on a half moon cay shore-excursion, splurge on rentals on half moon cay.

The Bahamas' Half Moon Cay (otherwise known as Little San Salvador Island) is famous for its pristine beauty. It is regarded as one of the hidden gems of the Bahamas. Taking cruises around the Bahamas and the private islands is one of the safest ways to explore the Caribbean nation .

Half Moon Cay is of The Bahamas' 700 stunning islands around halfway between Eleuthera and Cat island. It is a private island owned by Carnival Corporation & plc. (which uses the island as a port of call for its cruise ships). It has been named for 20 straight years Best Private Island by Porthole Cruise Magazine. It is one of the private Caribbean Islands that cruise lines call into .

The island offers many tropical island activities like sunbathing, scuba diving, jet-skiing, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing, glass-bottom boat rides, kayaking, and much more. Bathe in the turquoise seas, paddle a kayak through the protected waters of the picturesque lagoon, see the stingrays, and ride horseback on the powdery white sand beaches.

  • Ownership: Privately Owned
  • Location: 100 Miles Southeast of Nassau

Half Moon Cay has plenty of stunning breaches. The main beach is the 2.5-mile-long Half Moon Beach. There are reasons why it is one of the most highly rated private islands in the Caribbean. Visitors have only half a day at Half Moon Cay - so be sure to make the most of it and the island's 45 acres of pristine tropical paradise.

There are plenty of other privately owned islands by cruise lines in the Caribbean. These include Great Stirrup Cay, Perfect Day at Cococay, Castaway Cay, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, and others.

It may come as a surprise to many, but the largest island of the Bahamas, Andros, is almost untouched by tourism and is very much worth visiting.

Half Moon Cay is anything but a typical destination and one of the highlights of a Carnival Caribbean cruise. A number of Carnival ships stop by at Half Moon Cay as part of their 5-8 day-long itineraries.

As the waters around the cay are shallow, it is not possible for the large cruise ships to dock. Instead, passengers take tenders to the shore (it takes around 15 to 20 minutes). Once on the island, there are trams running from the welcome center to the cay's main areas.

The Carnival cruises that call in at Half Moon Cay include Conquest, Dream, Elation, Freedom, Glory, Legend, Magic, Radiance, Sunrise, Sunshine, and Vista.

Carnival Cruises also offers a free buffet "Island Barbecue for its guests. The buffet is BBQ with some added Caribbean touches (such as Jerk Chicken and banana rum cake). It is offered between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm.

Take the tram to Stingray Cove and enjoy a stingray adventure while learning about the behaviors of the stingrays, including their habitat, feeding, and breeding. Visitors are provided with safety vests, a scuba mask, and aqua shoes before swimming with the stingrays (it really is a rewarding experience) . People can touch their silky wings and watch the instructors feed them.

Simply looking at photos of tropical islands can have a calming effect, so imagine actually being there. 8.  Or Just You & A Special Someone

The beauty of a private-island port like Half Moon Cay is the amount of space it offers, even when you factor in a ship-load of people who’ve come ashore for the day. So, while the island is great for group activities, it’s also possible to find your own patch of sand or shade to enjoy with your significant other , special family member or BFF.

9. It Makes Working Out That Much Easier

Let’s face it: no gym in the world looks like this. The postcard-worthy views of Half Moon Cay will help you get inspired to jog on the sand (a great challenge for your thighs and glutes!), stretch it out on a yoga mat, or sign up for an energizing shore excursion such as kayaking, biking, horseback riding, snorkeling or windsurfing to get your blood pumping. We can’t think of a better way to work off all those calories accumulated at cruise dinners and buffets!

10. You Can Make it an Even More Exclusive Experience

How do you make your day on a private island feel even more private and exclusive? By renting a cabana or beach villa. These air-conditioned retreats offer private facilities, shade, and snacks and water to keep you hydrated. If you really want to feel like a high-roller, consider renting Half Moon Cay’s Private Oasis, a super-sized cabana with an 8-person hot tub, barbecue area, wet bar and outdoor showers. It even comes with butler, chef, bartender, steward and lifeguard service. Now, that’s a VIP day in paradise.

If you’re planning a cruise that stops in the Bahamas, then you’re in for a treat. One of the best places to visit on a cruise is Half Moon Cay, Bahamas.

This private island is owned by Carnival Corporation and is absolutely gorgeous. With its soft, powdery white sand and crystal clear warm water, Half Moon Cay is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some time in the sun.

Carnival offers plenty of Half Moon Cay excursions, but you can also just use it as a free beach day. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy, or you can just lounge on the beach and soak up the sun.

This shows the back of the clamshell umbrellas and 2 of the private cabanas available at Half Moon Cay.

Getting to Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

Half Moon Cay is located just off the coast of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The original name of the island is Little San Salvador. The island is relatively small, measuring less than 4 square miles.

Half Moon Cay is uninhabited, and people who work on the island ferry to work each day. The only way to visit Half Moon Cay is by taking a cruise through Holland America or Carnival Cruises.

When you get to Half Moon Cay, you’ll be able to take a water taxi (it’s called a tender) from the cruise ship to the island. The shuttle ride takes just a few minutes and drops you off right at the beach. From there, it’s up to you how you want to spend your time.

Half Moon Day Excursions

There are plenty of things to keep you busy on Half Moon Cay Bahamas. If you want to stay active, there are a number of excursions offered by Carnival.

You can also rent time on kayaks, water trunks, paddle boards, and beach floats. These can be rented at cabanas on the day you arrive with your sail and sign card.

You won’t find 3rd party excursions here since it is a Carnival-owned Island.

  • Stingray excursion- Ride the tram to Stingray Cove, learn about the stingrays, and snorkel with them.
  • Snorkel trip – this excursion takes you by boat away from the island to snorkel. All gear is provided.
  • Horseback riding – Ride on the beach and into the ocean with this horseback riding excursion, good for all skill levels
  • AquaTrax – Jet ski excursion. You are on a guided “tour”, not self-exploration on this tour.
  • Eco Lagoon Tour – Glass bottom boat where you can observe the reef and marine life below you.
  • Bike tour – Take a guided bike ride through the island
  • Bike/Hike Tour – Guided
  • Tram Tour – There is a free tram that takes you to different parts of the island, this is different. This tour is for excursion guests only and takes you to “behind the scenes” areas of Half Moon Cay.
  • Rent a Villa – This is a pricey excursion but would be so much fun if you were with a group of people to help split the cost. There is room for 8 people. You need to book this early, they always sell out. The villa has air-conditioning, fully functioning kitchens, a private sundeck, and even hot tubs. You will have a waiter that will bring you buffet food, and make sure you have everything you need. The villa is pre-stocked with water, the soda of your choice, and a few snacks (chips and veggie tray.)
  • Rent a Cabana – This is great if you want a place to be able to get out of the sun and relax. The cabanas are located further down the beach and each comes with pool floats, water, soda, snacks, misting showers, an air conditioner, a private patio, chairs, and a table. You’ll also have a waiter check on you and bring you food from the buffet. There is space for 4 people in the Cabanas. As with the villas, book early, they will sell out.
  • Rent a clamshell . A clamshell is an umbrella that goes from the ground, up and over the top of you. You can fit 2 lounge chairs under one clamshell. There is the staff there to help you set it up. You can leave your bags and water in the clamshell while you enjoy the water. If you are looking for a budget-friendly option to be guaranteed some shade, this is the way to go. We get one every time we don’t have a cabana.

Half Moon Cay Weather

The weather in the Bahamas is generally nice and warm year-round. The water stays nice and warm throughout the year. Keep in mind that hurricane season runs from June 1-November 30, with peak season in September and October.

Another thing to know about Half Moon Cay is that if it is too windy, you won’t be able to port there and may get rerouted or have an extra sea day. If you suddenly get rerouted to Nassau, read this post on what to do in Nassau .

Half Moon Cay Review

I love Half Moon Cay. I have been to Carnivals Island, Princess Cay as well as Castaway Cay on Disney Cruise Line, and I loved Half Moon Cay the most.

The sand is baby powder soft. The water is calm and clear and so pretty. I find it to be a perfect day to relax and just enjoy the beach.

The BBQ buffet is decent, with good choices, and the carnival staff works hard to make sure you are taken care of and happy.

Initially, I thought I would hate Half Moon Cay because it was a private island and there was no opportunity to interact with other cultures or learn anything historical, but it quickly became one of my favorite cruise stops.
