We are operating eco-friendly, educational Quad Bike Desert Dune Tours (and 4X4 during low season) from Walvis Bay, Namibia, Africa. Namibia was once a German colony, known as “Deutsch West Afrika”. Walvis Bay is 35 km south from Swakopmund.

Our tours depart from the premises of Lagoon Chalets, Eight Road West, Meersig, Walvis Bay.

Our Quad Bike Safari

Our first Quad Bike Safari - what a great experience riding the dunes - it was our first time, but was well worth the money and our guide was extremely professional. Great views from the higher dunes (would do it again).

Me and my girlfriend just finished an hours drive on the quad bikes. We have no prior experience of driving quads but it wasn’t a problem as the ones they have are as easy to get used to. We absolutely loved it. Our guide called Devon took us around the Dunes and was an excellent guide. We felt safe the entire time and would definitely recommend it to anyone coming to Walvis Bay. Would recommend a jacket/trousers with zip pockets to keep phones & keys safe with you. But thought it was brilliant.

Dune 7 adventure hiking up The Dune is a must. The view the scenery is priceless. You have to experience it yourself.

During our trip to Namibia we had the opportunity to firstly climb the mighty Dune 7, tallest wind dune in the world apparently. Was challenging and hot, but great fun. Afterwards we also took on the dunes with the quads provided by Dune 7 Adventures. We were three couples of which most have never driven a quad before. That being said, the guides were informative, patient and always willing to help. We drove for an hour and enjoyed every moment of it. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get lost in dunes for a while. The establishment also has a restaurant and bar, which we enjoyed too the fullest after our drive through the desert.

Everyone get's their own guide and then you're off to dunes. The guides take safety seriously, we never had a bad feeling. Driving around the dunes is a lot of fun and there are also great views to the ocean.

The quad-bike route is a scenic drive that combines beautiful landscapes, magical colours and the unbelievable life of animals and the Topnaar people and their survival in the desert.

This quad-bike adventure offers an unforgettable experience with countless photo opportunities of enchanting animal footprints (from the time when the Kuiseb Delta had a lot more water), desert vegetation (plants that have adapted to survive extreme conditions) wildlife such as the small five (lizards, geckos, scorpions, snakes and spiders) and the Topnaar tribe. The Topnaars are a semi-nomadic tribe divided into two groups: the Southern Aonin group and the Northern Gomen group. The Gomen Topnaars settled close to Sesfontein while the Aonin Topnaars settled at the mouth of the Kuiseb River Valley, which provided them with additional sources of food, particularly the well-known Nara plant.

The tour is done on fully automatic quad bikes and is suitable for the rider with no previous experience, even for children, 12 years and older as well as strong healthy elderly people. Children, 4 years � 11 years old, can drive with their parents double on one quad bike. Fanie du Preez, a born Namibian and owner of Kuiseb Delta Adventures, will guide you. He has been guiding these quad tours, almost on a daily basis, for about 20 years. He knows the Kuiseb delta like no other. He is passionate about Namibia, but more so about this unique part of the Namib desert. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity and do not forget your camera to immortalise this wonderful experience. This Historian tour has been the highlight of numerous visitors� holidays to Namibia. The Tour Highlights and Includes Details on how the delta came into being, why the delta developed, what the area was like before the �Sea of Sand� succeeded to cross the river and why the river and the dunes are the reasons for existence for the underground fresh water aquifer. Details on the formation of Sandwich Harbour and Walvis Bay. Scientific information on the underground fresh water aquifer and why it is endangered by modern man. Visiting different kind of dunes that exist in the delta and detailed explanations of how the different shapes are formed, how much they move in a given time and what the gradient of a slip face is and why it can�t get steeper. Details and evidence of why the dunes have different colours. Evidence of five different stages as a dune moves over a tree as well as over a !Nara plant. Examining the edible desert fruit, the !Nara and the Sirub, explaining how the plants adapted to this particularly harsh environment, sampling what the fruit tastes like (in season) and how it is harvested and used by the ancient Khoi inhabitants) as well as by the animals. Details about the present day animals (brown hyena, jackal, elephant shrew, gemsbok/oryx antelope, springbok gazelle, etc.), birds (pale chanting goshawk,jackal buzzard, dune lark (full endemic), reptiles (snakes, like the sidewinder, the dancing lizards, skinks, the namaqua cameleon & gecko�s) and some of the insects (fog drinking beetles) that live in the delta. Mostly we are able to show them some of these living creatures. Visit and explore the different intact khoi middens (old living places). View what these ancient inhabitants of Namibia ate, used as tools/implements and as body ornaments. Show physical evidence of petrified footprints of the ancient khoi and their goats. These footprints, all discovered by Fanie du Preez, have been laser scanned by leading international scientists and age tested. You will learn more about this when you do the tour with Fanie. We also show them numerous petrified footprints of almost all the present land animals of Namibia e.g. Elephant, rhino, buffalo, eland, gemsbok, kudu, giraffe, spotted hyena, springbok, steenbok, etc.

General Information:

The tour is done on fully automatic quad bikes and is suitable for the rider with no previous experience, even for children and strong healthy elderly people. We do the tours using small fully automatic quads, as these lightweight vehicles are more eco-friendly in the dunes than heavy 4×4 vehicles. We drive only on sand and usually our shallow footprints are eroded away by the prevailing afternoon winds. Fanie will give you thorough training on how to drive a quad bike safely, before the tour starts. He will guide you personally and look after your safety. Although this quad tour differs vastly from the �dune bashing tours� offered by other quad bike operators at the Namibian coast, it gives the riders lots of fun to drive their own quads in the dunes. The tours are done usually in the mornings only, because of prevailing thermal afternoon winds. Water will be provided.

Desert cereal and fog milk – the living desert

With charisma and lots of humour Chris Nel explains the flora and fauna of the desert world around Swakopmund. Starting with a short excursion to the mouth of the Swakop River, the tour continues on a small path into the 2010 proclaimed Dorob National Park. Here he excitingly explains how this worldwide unique desert system is functioning and after a few minutes nobody wonders about desert cereal and fog milk anymore.

Most impressive is Chris’s feeling for the desert creatures. Where we only see sand Chris discovers dazzling creatures like the Dancing White Lady, different Tok Tokkies, the Desert Chameleon, the sand-diving Gecko, the Sidewinder, desert scorpions and many more. All are adapted to this eco-system in unbelievable ways and manners and are able to survive thanks to desert cereal and fog milk.

Chris Nel, who has been actively engaged in the protection of the Namib Desert for years, is able to depict this complicated system with such didactic finesse that kids will also be fascinated of his desert tour. It is real joy to follow him dashing through the sand, to have him explain the different colours of the sand and finally to share his enthusiasm on the way home whilst driving over the dunes back to Swakopmund. This experience will be remembered for a long time as well as desert cereal and fog milk. Its just one of the best activities in Swakopmund.

Sandwich Harbour, part of the Namib Naukluft Park, is a place many have heard of but very few have ever visited. The lagoon, salt pans and the bird sanctuary, which form the Walvis Bay Wetlands, are rightly heralded as the single most important coastal wetlands of Southern Africa. It is one of five Ramsar sites in Namibia. Giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes, just waiting to be discovered!

Sandwich Harbour, a little less than 60km south of Walvis Bay in the Namib-Naukluft National Park, is one of Namibia’s most unique and dramatic sites. Here some of the world’s highest dunes descent into the cold Atlantic Ocean to form a picturesque lagoon.

Once a commercial fishing and trading port, Sandwich Harbour is now a RAMSAR site (Site no. 743) with magnificent wetland wilderness and devoid of any human settlement. Wedged between the sea and the Namib Dunes, this is one of Namibia's most important coastal wetlands, and is home to eight endangered species among the large numbers of wading birds.

Early evidence of human life is preserved, and the site includes several archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. In this extremely arid environment, early inhabitants were all hunter-gatherers who survived near fresh water and from hunting various small animals and collecting fruits, bulbs and melons including the famous !nara melon. Closer to the ocean, onwards from about 2,000 years ago, archeological sites contain mussel and marine shells indicating that seafood became an important element of substance for early coastal dwellers. There is further evidence that seals, sea birds and even the odd whale -dead and washed on-shore – added diversity to hunter-gatherer diet. For the last 1,000 years inhabitants of this unique area are pastoralists.

Please keep in mind that even though you might want to “wing it” – it is never a bad idea to pre-book a tour/activity, as you are not guaranteed of availability once you arrive in Namibia (especially if you are visiting us during peak season, which is between July and October). Another important thing to note is that you need not worry about paying “more” for a tour/activity by booking through us. You will pay exactly the same price by booking directly with the operator.
