You lie and steal, why can I not make any changes or cancellations? Your bot system goes on an endless loop to avoid addressing the issue and your "travel experts" can't even manage to do even one thing aside delay further. This whole experience has left me feeling like this company is a total scam. I'm having my bank cancel your charge and issue a fraud claim.

separating family due flight change. Horrible customer service and did not

The airline changed my seat on 4 segments due to a change of schedule and they failed to reinstate my 15 year old son's seat on all 4 segments. from doh to ist, ist to dfw, dfw to ist and ist to doh. they are trying to escape responsibilites by saying I did not book seats for my son. this is a very expensive trip with 6 of us traveling, why would I not assign seat for my youngest child on all 4 segments. I have another flight where my other son would meet us in istanbul and they did the same to him. Although we paid extra for these seats, the airline and one travel will not take responsibilities and they are only making excuses. so what's the solution, my 15 year old still has no seats!

Customer service is very poor and defensive

Proof that customer service is defending themselves instead of helping customers , they claimed that I only booked 4 tickets. I booked 5 tickets on one reservation and and another ticket on a separate reservation for a separate outbound but 6 of us traveling back together. Proof that that paid no attention, just quick to defend changing my seats that I paid extra for but thanks to Dobi who went above and beyond and very polite. She confirmed that all 6 of my seats are assigned back to the original seats that I had initially booked.

They will not be able to travel using your name as the documents that they will need to provide at TSA will not match. You will need to file a report with your credit card if they used your card to make the purchase.

They will not be able to travel using your name as the documents that they will need to provide at TSA will not match. You will need to file a report with your credit card if they used your card to make the purchase.

Booked my trip to Disney Paris with…

Booked my trip to Disney Paris with Kirsty and she could not have done more . She was patient in finding us the best price from the best airport to save us as much as she could and also gave us 3 holiday options depending on our lowest and highest budget. cheeky weekend away

We wanted to book a cheeky weekend away for myself, husband and daughter, we asked Nicol for her expertise. Nicol asked what our requirements were, we told her and she arranged for us to say in Northumberland spring house country park and wow- it didn’t disappoint, its was amazing, we looked on to the woods, it was extremely picturesque, everything we had asked for and more. ChatGPT 4 Review: A Smarter AI Chatbot, but It'll Cost You

I wondered whether ChatGPT 4 was really worth the $20 upgrade, considering Microsoft Copilot is free and also uses OpenAI's faster and more efficient GPT-4 Turbo model . Turns out, just because two companies are using similar versions of GPT-4 doesn't mean they're using it equally.

ChatGPT 4, OpenAI's most advanced publicly available model, differs from the free ChatGPT 3.5 in a few ways. OpenAI says it has better comprehension and can create more nuanced answers with less bias. After testing, I feel 4.0 ups the cognition, upgrading answers from rote summarizations to scholarly level proficiency. Answers do take longer to generate, but the output is worth the wait. Its ability to juggle dense topics and spit out well thought-out answers puts it ahead of the GPT-4 Turbo model used by the free version of Copilot, which prioritizes speed and efficiency.

But as impressive as ChatGPT 4 is, it still runs into the same issue as 3.5: no internet connection. While the training data is more recent, up to August 2023 as opposed to September 2021, it's still not possible to get answers to the day's most pressing and topical questions. So for things like shopping recommendations between the latest Samsung and Apple phones, ChatGPT 4 can only prognosticate on which phone reigns supreme.

Even with this restriction, ChatGPT 4 is noticeably smarter than its free counterpart. And for those who strive for accuracy and ask questions requiring greater computational dexterity, it's a worthy upgrade. 

How CNET tests AI chatbots

CNET takes a practical approach to reviewing AI chatbots. By prompting AI chatbots with real-world scenarios, like finding and modifying recipes, researching travel and writing emails, my fellow reviewers and I aim to simulate what the average person might use them for. The goal isn't to break AI chatbots with bizarre riddles or logic problems. Instead, we look to see if real questions prompt useful and accurate answers. However, as more advanced models are released, it'll require more advanced-level questioning to see how AI chatbots can reason with complex and multilayered topics. When using ChatGPT, keep in mind that the service automatically collects the information you put into its system, so be mindful of giving the service any personal information. For more information, see OpenAI's privacy policy .

If it has the data, ChatGPT 4 will give excellent shopping recommendations. However, for items released after August 2023, like the iPhone 15 and the Samsung Galaxy S24, ChatGPT will use noncommittal language like "might" and "should." The data gap diminishes its overall effectiveness as a shopping guide, unfortunately.

When I asked it to compare the LG OLEDs G3 and G4, ChatGPT 4 said things like, "the G4 might feature enhanced processing" and "If the G4 has upgraded speakers or audio processing capabilities, it could offer a better auditory experience." This type of prognostication makes sense if the product hasn't been officially unveiled. But the G4 TV is on the market now. 

At the very least, for less timely inquiries, ChatGPT excels at synthesizing multiple data points and giving accurate and reliable answers. For example, when trying to find a proper uninterrupted power supply for my gaming PC or TV setup, ChatGPT 4 was able to cross-reference the power requirements of my electronics and recommend the appropriate supply. It even explained why buying a sinewave supply would be beneficial as I'd be using sensitive electronics. 

As a shopping tool, overall, it's probably better to reference AI chatbots that do have a direct line to the internet, like Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini and Perplexity . But as a general product research tool, as long as the items you're referencing are from before August 2023, ChatGPT really does feel like you're talking to a knowledgeable sales representative at a store. 

Any AI chatbot can spit out a recipe. That's not hard. But very few can actually make a good recipe, and ChatGPT 4 is no exception. Like Google Gemini and  Claude , when I asked ChatGPT 4 to give a chicken tikka masala marinade, it only touched on the basics. It didn't include more exotic ingredients like kasuri methi (dried fenugreek), chaat masala and amchur (dried mango powder). While these ingredients aren't necessary, they should at least be listed as an option.

When it came to making more unique fusion recipes, like a Thai-inspired tres leches cake with a spicy kick, ChatGPT 4 totally understood the assignment. It created a cake infused with coconut milk and lemongrass flavors and combined it with some Thai chili peppers. So when it comes to creating a more authentic recipe, ChatGPT 4 deflates the souffle, so to speak. But for anything that requires fusing foods from different parts of the world, ChatGPT 4 excels. 

Summarizing articles

The freely available AI chatbots have struggled with article summarization. Most did a decent job of getting the overarching points, but failed to capture the main thesis or crux of the piece. 

I asked ChatGPT 4 to summarize an article I wrote earlier this year about how AI was dominating CES 2024 . Where chatbots like Gemini and Claude did nothing more than state the popularity of AI at the show and how many gadgets were unveiled with AI integrations, none did a good job of taking into account the experts I spoke to and some of the skepticisms they raised. ChatGPT 4, however, did. 

It was able to look beyond the shiny veneer at the top of the AI boom and see how companies were pushing out AI products too quickly, some of which might simply have been a rebranding of "smart" tech from a few years back.

And, unlike with ChatGPT 3.5, I didn't run into a character limit when pasting my article into the chatbot. 

While the free chatbots can get you some basic talking points, ChatGPT 4 gives you the entire analysis.  

When it comes to travel recommendations, ChatGPT 4 gets things right, mostly. Where some of the free chatbots hallucinated or struggled to give varying recommendations, ChatGPT consistently gave solid tips and sights worth seeing, all of which actually existed.

Like in past reviews, I asked ChatGPT 4 to create a three-day travel itinerary to Columbus, Ohio. I then cross-referenced it with CNET's Bella Czajkowski, who hails from the Arch City.

According to Czajkowski, ChatGPT 4's recommendations were varied and included a solid list of restaurants worth visiting, like Fox in the Snow Cafe or The Pearl. It also included attractions like the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, a destination often missing from the free AI chatbot lists. 

That doesn't mean ChatGPT 4 always gets it right. When asking it to make a travel itinerary for the neighborhood of Bushwick in New York, ChatGPT 4 recommended cafes in the neighborhood of Greenpoint. While Greenpoint is only 30 minutes by train, it wouldn't be considered a walkable destination. 

Super synthesis

With the paid AI chatbots, we're putting a greater emphasis on informational synthesis. Given that you're paying $20 per month, premium AI chatbots have to push beyond recipe and restaurant recommendations. That means parsing through the complexities of the human condition to answer the conundrums of life. 

For this test, we thought of an obtuse philosophy question and asked ChatGPT 4 to consider theories from disparate philosophers from different time periods and to then relate it to the problems of today. The wording of the question was also needlessly dense, aiming to simulate what might be asked of philosophy students. 

We don't want to put the exact question here, as other AI chatbots might glean it for future training. 

Given the general density and unreadability of the question, ChatGPT 4 performed remarkably. It was able to acknowledge the multidimensionality of the question, breaking it down point by point, similarly to how a tutor would. It started off by defining the different philosophies present to establish a baseline, then aimed to answer each element before finally combining all the information for one final answer. 

Compared to ChatGPT 3.5, ChatGPT 4 flew higher and further than its free counterpart. The informational processing really did mimic how a person would think the question through, showing how the increase in parameters helps AI chatbots to perform with greater cognitive ability. 

AI chatbots like ChatGPT are everything machines, so it can be hard to fully evaluate them without cross-referencing experts in coding, architecture or any other highly skilled field. 

Even so, it's obvious that ChatGPT 4 is smarter than the other AI chatbots. Its answers are more thoughtful, and it can synthesize complex bits of information to produce useful sentences, even if it takes a bit of time to process. It's also less prone to hallucinate. 

Is it worth the $20 per month subscription cost? That's situationally dependent. If you plan on only asking AI chatbots to write emails or give summaries of historical events, then the free versions will likely suffice. Seriously, as an email-writing machine, ChatGPT 4 performed well, but so did all the other AI chatbots. However, if you start finding answers to your multilayered questions to be unsatisfying, it might be worth dropping the $20 to give ChatGPT 4 a try. 

The value comes in instances where a general overview won't suffice and specifics will be necessary, like asking for the types of hardware needed for your specific setup or the furniture to consider in an awkwardly colored and shaped room. ChatGPT 4 really impresses when you need more specialized answers to specific questions (like college-level philosophy questions). 

At the very least, you'll have a better sense of what the capabilities of an uncapped AI chatbot are. Because when ChatGPT can run, it can go far, albeit not fast.

TRAVELERS BEWARE

My husband and I prepaid a hotel room at springhill suites LaGuardia airport in December using capital one travel. This reservation was for travel on 5/14/24. We arrived into nyc from Switzerland and were dropped at the hotel by Uber at 6pm. We went into the hotel lobby and thought we were in the wrong place. But NO, this hotel had been converted into an immigrant homeless shelter and we had no knowledge of it. We are in a dangerous neighborhood, with LOTS of luggage and on the phone with capital one travel. After 47 mins of ZERO help from capital one phone support, we were no closer to a resolution. I asked three different times to escalate the issue for safety reasons, with no results. We made other arrangements and were out $$$$, but we got out of the area without loss of life or property. This could have gone very badly. Do not blindly trust this service!!!

Hotel unavailable when other websites have them available... What is $300 credit's worth if you're not able to use them? Also, multi-leg flights were also coming back as unavailable... This website is really good for nothing and Capital One should really consider switching from hopper to other travel portal services.

Beware of cancelation time zone!

I booked a hotel under the understanding that I could cancel by April 30th at 12:00 am. I tried to cancel on April 29th 9:30 PM EST but they wouldn't let me and told me I had to cancel by 12:00 AM UTC. They do not clearly display this on their site. It free cancelations until April 30 in large red print and in small print below that, "Cancellations or changes made after Apr 30 2024 12:00 AM (+00:00) are subject to a fee equal to 100% of the amount paid." Customer support was no help.

Average travel portal - much room for further improvement.

Capitalone's travel portal uses a third party to fetch data and it displays results. They appear to be using some filters as well, as the same third-party site has wider options. The issue with their site is that it shows limited options when compared to other leading travel portals and to add to it, the price is mostly not attractive as there are cheaper options available. The agents over the phone I felt lacks in knowledge or they do not have enough data to speak or respond. One thing that I do want to mention is that when connected to the right agent/supervisor, they do listen to the suggestions and implement those. My suggestion was implemented in the search and I could see the requested option in the search result. They would need to improve on the price offered to make it attractive with other travel portals and also need to improve on the search results.

Capitol One Travel site definitely minor league

Consistently find better prices by going directly to the airline or hotel. COT uses Hopper as their back end engine. I found a better price on regular Hopper compared to COT Hopper. I tried to book a hotel room advertised as one of their Prestige Collections. COT site could not complete the transaction. Customer Service was no help and a time waster. I filed a claim in November 2023 for lost luggage reimbursement, but haven't heard anything yet. I haven't lost any money - so far, but I'm really wondering what I'm getting for my $395/ yr. COT really needs to function like a real travel site if they want to hang on to their card holders.

Capital One Travel web site limited infirmation

The Capital One Web Site information about hotel rooms is limited. It is not easy to find out if the bathrooms have bathtubs or not. Calling to find out is time consuming. First you have to enter your credit card number and then after a 50 second wait you are connected to an agent who only has the information on their web site. The agents are generally polite but that never answers detailed questions like “Does the room have a bathtub?”

Booked a trip that we had to cancel

Booked a trip that we had to cancel. We got a credit of around $1,800 but when we tried to use it to book another flight, Capital One could/would not fully utilize our credit and we either lost $900 of the credit or had to pay an additional $3,000 for the new trip! When booking the new trip on their website, the tickets totaled $1,074 but the website showed $10,000!!! When we called them. they could not explain and only said that something was wrong. The low rating for this site is warranted!!!

We got this card to get travel points. What a mistake. We booked a villa and the hotel said we only had a small suite. Capital One travel deals with a third party they don’t deal directly with the hotels or airlines and cannot even call their vendor they can only email them. You will not get any help in a timely manner. Their agents do not speak coherent English which makes it very difficult to communicate and their supervisors also can barely speak English and they will not transfer you to anyone else in the company. We will be cancelling our card.

Stay elsewhere…..!

Stayed at the Novotel Living in Singapore (Oct 10-16) & was very disappointed ….never again….. Room was tiny & majority had 10/12 steep steps to climb to enter the room. (Not children/elderly/disabled/wheelchair friendly if U need that)…bring your hiking boots! The 1 coffee machine in the lobby was usually either empty or being cleaned or under maintenance. The ‘cookies’ were same every day for a week & tasted stale. Staff not friendly. Elevator frequency really bad. Only 2. Maids & food delivery people often hold the elevator for ages so U can easily wait 5/10+ mins…mornings worse. I understand that late checkouts are never automatic but was told that “room was required at 3:30pm & I had to checkout no/later than 11am”. Do they need 4 & 1/2 hrs to clean such a tiny room? Location was 5 star - everything else was 1 star so I think 2 star is generous. I would never stay here again…many other better choices in Singapore …. I’m a Worldwide traveler more than 50 years & lived here in Singapore for 5years & return annually so am very familiar with what is the norm - this is not it. Sad that Novotel standards are not upheld at this location.

We booked a flight and the carrier was…

We booked a flight and the carrier was Flexflight. We never got any confirmation. Finally we were sent an email that the flight was cancelled. We called Capitol One and they were unable to reach the airplane. A month later we decided we needed to just book another flight or we are going to not have a return trip home from our trip. We finally got an answer and it was that no refund could be issued and they would issue us a new ticket. However had already booked the flight due to the lack of communication. Overall, we have decided it was such terrible customer service that we will be closing our account.

Beware of CapitalOne Travel Services rude and bad customer service! In a recent trip to Colombia with my family, they left us stranded on the return because of their internal problem. To add insult to injury, they refused to and/or didn’t have the courtesy to cover the expense of having to stay in Colombia until they solved their internal problem. My family and I are extremely disappointed with CapitalOne Travel Services’ handling of our circumstances while in a foreign country.

The customer support service people are moro$s. Keeps calling me back every day for the same issue that I told them has been resolved. I told the last person I talked to not to call me again regarding this and she got rude and said I was the person who called even though I was calling back after receiving a voicemail call! Booked a hotel room through them

Booked a hotel room through them, and chose the non-refundable option since it was the cheapest option. Found a cheaper room with exact specs on Expedia that was refundable and 30% cheaper. Called them for a price match and my inquiry was handled very rudely by the supervisor who refused to do a price match because my booking with capital one was a non-refundable room. So in short I paid more through the portal and was not taken care of when I called. SO much for their shop with confidence guarantee (part of the FAQ's - how do I know I am getting a fair price at Capital One Travel), absolutely no faith in the portal, their pricing techniques and after all of that, their customer service. Now their credit card business is going to be affected by it, because I am a capital one venture X card member who primarily uses that card for all transactions. That is not going to happen anymore, because I have no trust in doing business with an organization that does not know how to take care of its customers.

If I could give it a ZERO

If I could give it a ZERO, I would. WORST experience EVER. My husband booked international flights through Capital and my son's name is his nickname on the ticket and does not match his passport with full name. Capital One aka HOPPER cannot make any changes and no one from Virgin Atlantic will work with them to get it changed. I have been disconnected, promised call-backs, now for 24-hours to no avail. WORST. DO NOT EVER BOOK THROUGH CAPITAL ONE. I will most likely be discontinuing my card service with them after this experience.

If issues arise they will hang you out to dry - never use them

They booked the wrong hotel, not even in the same state. Then in their attempt to make it right erroneously told me that there were no vacancies near me (turns out there were) and that the hotel they rebooked us in had high ratings (I specifically asked about the ratings). After accepting the rebooking (mistake), we checked the hotel online to get directions. It had terrible ratings. It was also further away than thought. We checked near where we were and while most everything was indeed booked, we found one with a vacancy on the 2nd phone call. We grabbed it and called CapOne back to cancel their rebooking. They said that it was too late and that we now had to pay for both. When trying to talk it out with them, they simply hid behind legalese and said that since I had accepted the other booking that there was nothing they could do. They couldn't cancel the rebooking and transfer the credit to my new booking. Very disappointing and not really believable. Especially, since its their fault that I'm in this predicament. They did give me a $50 voucher for future use. Right. I'll never use them again.

No refund yet airline made changes for free

Book the flight with Capital One travel in January had to reschedule due to poor weather. Wouldn't you know the same fair class was unavailable when I rescheduled for March so not only did I pay hundred dollars per passenger in change fees but also another $200 per passenger for the upgraded fair class. Unfortunately my girlfriend fell from a ladder and bruised her ribs so she can't make the march trip. I tried to reschedule it for May and discovered that the original fare was now available so I called them for a refund they refused. I said so you can take my money but you cannot give it back am I understanding you they said yes that's the policy. we exchanged a few more pleasantries and I went to the airline website and without even calling anyone I was able to book the flight at any airfare I choose in with no change fee. I have also seen many instances of blackouts on their website when they say there are no blackout dates or fares. The reason I'm forced to use them is to use up a pile of reward miles I have accumulated when they're gone gone so is Capital One travel

My wife and I paid $60 for the flight disruption assistance and couldn’t feel more ripped off. Couldn’t get them to help us change flights on a phone call and couldn’t get a refund for the assistance because an agent told us to book it ourselves. Mary the supervisor on the call line was just as unhelpful and couldn’t get us a new flight either. What are we paying for? Poor customer service and $60 dollars ripped off, won’t have anything to do with capital one in the future after this horrible experience and advise you to save yourself and do the same.

Horrible customer service

Booked via Capital one. Unable to get a flight credit for a drop in airfare. Supervisor and customer service rep were highly unhelpful. I called my airline and had I booked direct with them I would have been able to receive a credit for the difference. Don't book through capital one. It is not worth it and their customer service is awful.

this is a lousy travel agency owned by Capital One. i had a hard time changing flights while traveling abroad because I was told I've gotta go thro the maze of Capital One Travel Second, despite being card holders for Capital One when Southwest Lost our luggages on 8/23/23, for months Capital did not respond and instead sent us a litany of impossible to supply documents for our compensation. Nothing yet on 11/15/23!! For us senior citizens in our mid seventies this has been a painful loss. "Whatever is in your wallet" -- Keep it there & please do'nt use Capital One Travel agency. they are totally bogus
